its funny that you get mad about kataang ( a ship that is actually supported by the show andcharacters) while trying to defend korrasami a last minute retcon that requires making korra ooc because you have that level ofirrational hatred for mako and over reaction to him daring to have flaws emotionally immature teenager ( makos flaws were always acknowledged as such since b1) mako didnt need to be punished by ending the show single (asami got hurt and that sucked for her but its irrelevent )
ROFL, you know nothing about this blog, Mako apologist if you think I've ever defended the Korrasami ending as legitimate. I know it is hard for you to believe but thinking that Mako and Makorra are horrendously written and send the wrong message because regardless of your assertions, Mako's character flaws were not even tackled with the gravity the deserved until the final season and one cannot help but believe only done so because of rightful fanbase outcry, DOES NOT MEAN I am a Korrasami shipper. If it is irrational to have a hatred for lying and people who disregard the feelings of others for the sake of their own comfort then I am guilty as charged and glad to be so. But while we are on the subject of irrationality, you are literally getting your underpants in a twist over the fact that someone dares not to love your precious Mako or thinks his shitty behavior warrants a redemption arc where he grows as a person, apologizes to the people he wronged, and goes forward into a new relationship with someone new where he does not do that kind of shit anymore. Why are you so afraid of character development, man?

I always found the irational hate for mako daring to be flawed and make mistakes with the love triangle ( his first relationship)  and over reacting to them like claiming he was manipulative or a womanizer. when zuko who did far worse gets love. makos mistakes are more comparable to katara and aangs, and sokka and tophs mistakes . mako was never a villain or on the bad side in case anyone wants to go but look at how zuko suffered for them. mako didnt do anything that deserved that amount of suffering that Zuko mistakes were far more severe. So they deserved a worse reaction then makos. makos flaws and mistakes were always acknowledged and treated as such.
people acted like he needed to be specifically punished when he didnt.
(seriously
his mistakes and flaws deserved the treatment they got in b1 and b2 . the same way the gaangs mistakes was treated. If you want to use a scale use when katara. Said something rude to sokka that was a jerk move or when they made a mistake
( I feel like k/a was only popular due to a combination of 2 factors
1. the genders involved  ( they were barely friends people try to take the minor relationship and create headcanons to boost it up when those headcanons had no basis in canon , like exaggerating certain moments or to create a headcanon for a certain moment like acting like korra chose asami to help her get dressed when no. we never got any info on what led to that. or claiming korra sent asami tons of lettter and they talked  when korra only sent one letter ( by the dialogue)  and it was a process of elimination it doesnt say anything about how close they are it wa)
2. the hate for mako so they paired them up to spite mako when he didnt do anything that required punishment in form of ending the show single. ( claiming that his ending the show single was karma for his behavior as a ditherer when no mako's mistakes in b1/b2 didnt necessitate or deserve punishment of ending the show single
( its why if someone asked me if I were to do a a lok remake where makorra gets back together in the end (and were a good writer of course or suggested it someone who was a good writer) either start with a book 4 remake so mako who made the mistakes he made gets back together with korra at the end like say either there is a hint to them getting back together eventually or we get a flash forward to see their wedding
and the full lok remake with asami as an equalist spy
if a book 4 remake cant be made then just keep the love triangle
as a way to spite the nonsensical notion that mako deserved to end the show single for a love triangle
he mishandled a love triangle which was his first relationship and he didnt want to hurt anyone ( korra kissed him) he cared about them both.
seriously I remember how unreasonable the hate for mako was that anything good happening to him was somehow favoritism or being a creators pet. Like doing well as a police officer. Makos flaws and mistakes in the love triangle in b1 and b2 were acknowledged and treated as such in b1 and 2 the claim that because he wasn’t specifically punished for it in b1 isn’t treating those mistakes as right.
Bryke acknowledged that mako was a bit of a jerk in the asami confrontation it’s typical human jerkiness but certain people acted like Bryke explaining why in a commentary due to the unreasonable hate mako got to the point his va got death threats they claimed it was stanning him him mako didn’t deserve to end the show single because of some love triangle mess if anything it was asami who should have ended the show single

ok so i was able to log in thru my laptop so as promised here are my in depth thoughts on korra
so we all know lok came out like years ago so what im gonna say probably has already been said like thousands of times over and over, i think when the show first came out i saw a few eps of it and then lost interest. but i was like 15 or something at the time so whatever.
i have noticed that some people who liked lok better have said that people who dont like lok as much just dont like change, and idk maybe thats the case for some, but my main criticisms for it come from the writing inconsistency. to be clear i thought it was a fun watch! did i like it? yes!!!! did i love it?? not so much
i think what bothered me the most was the pacing of the seasons. now i hate to draw comparisons to atla, but they are part of the same franchise so I Will. one the things that made atla sooo good was the overall mission stretched over 3 seasons, with secondary villains providing obstacles along the way (zhao, zuko, azula). this provided characters with enough time to develop along the way before facing the big bad (and building suspense to ozai), but still keep viewers entertained through out the seasons
i didnt really feel the same suspense when watching korra. each season had its own conflict and big bad, and none of them really seemed to come back up a lot after they were already defeated (except for korras uncle i forget his name tbh)
i think any of the conflicts they had would have worked if they chose to stretch it out over the course of the show. the anti-bending movement and the water tribe civil war would have worked best in my opinion. they anti-bending movement drew valid criticisms from non-benders, and its really weird to see all of that vanish after amon was defeated. as for the civil war, unalaq (i googled his name lol) fell flat for me, he was just kinda evil for the sake of being evil. at first his motivations were intriguing and made a good foundation for the conflict aka wanting to combine the tribes again by bringing spirituality to the swt by force, bt when they brought in raava and vaatu it just kinda fell apart. this plotline definitely would have worked over several seasons, but i kinda wished the origins of the first avatar would have remained a mystery. i am a firm believer of not everything has to be answered
because the show was so fast paced, characters really didnt get the spotlight they deserved, esp team avatar. the gaang in the first series really all had their moments to shine, and you could rewatch the og season over and over again and notice something new every time! im not sure how well this would work with lok since the rest of team avatar didnt really get their own fleshed out story lines
korra: had the most development ofc. i think she was a great protagonist. it makes sense that aang would want his successor to get proper training before getting thrown into avatar duties  considering he was like 12 when he had to fight the firelord. korra, whos been training her whole life, is caught in the middle of conflict in republic city, and its clear to me that her training took a priority on bending the elements, rather than being a mediator, which is the duty of the avatar. she’s like a fish out of water, and as the series progresses and we see her fight the antagonists, this takes a toll on her and she goes into a slump. it was a very fitting arc for her character
mako: he was just kinda there for me. bit of a jerk at first and i really did not like the whole korra/mako/asami love triangle. it was all very forced imo considering korra and mako only knew each other for like a few days before they were confessing feelings for each other
bolin: obvs the comedic relief character. the show doesnt do much for him either which is sad bc i did like his character, hes funny and has a cute design. ill draw another comparison to atla and say that while sokka was the comedic relief, his character was deeply complex and multilayered
asami: my angel my daughter my cinnamon apple. im glad asami was able to reconnect with her father before the show murked him. korrasami was cute and they compliment each other: korra, whos more emotionally reserved vs asami who is empathetic and patient but also is true to her beliefs and holds her ground
anyways this post got super long and if u read this i love u. feel free to comment if u wanna start a discussion. much more to say but my fingers are tired bye

WE DONT STAND FOR MAKO OR KATARA SLANDER HERE. Remember Mako has been keeping Bolin out of trouble since he was 8 years old, that literally translates to "hey I've been a parent to my younger brother since third grade and because of that i never had a proper childhood". Katara had to keep her older brother from getting himself hurt, and Sokka while he also took on a parent role, that wasnt until his dad left for war. Literally Katara and Mako had to raise themselves along with their siblings. "But oh Mako wasnt there emotionally for his girlfriends" uh heres a little thing you should know, his parents died when he was 8, he immediately had to make sure his brother and him didnt fucking die. Of course he isnt emotionally available he was never allowed to be.
so fucking true. these two absolutely deserve better than what the fandoms gave them.

Study Buddy - Reader x Bolin imagine
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imagine being Korra’s brainiac younger sister who accompanies her to Republic city but is the complete opposite of her, you’re introverted, quiet and making friends doesn’t come as easy to you. But when Bolin moves to air temple island he finds your secret hiding spot and soon forces his way into your study routine. You’d usually hate having someone around while you work but for some reason you just can’t get mad at Bolin, the opposite actually happens...
Amon’s attacks on the bending arena left pro-bending in chaos and Korra’s team mates without a place to live or anything to do. Korra’s kind offer however solved that and now you had three more people in an already crowded house. Not that you disliked Tenzin’s family, you loved them all, even Meelo. You just struggled enough as it was trying to find somewhere quiet to read and now the new additions made it almost impossible.
After much exploration of the house you’d finally found a quiet corner and were sat making notes on traditional dialects when Bolin burst into the room chasing Pabu. He barrled into the room but stopped when he saw you "hi y/n". Ever the person to choose a book over a human you hadn’t socialised with Korra’s friends much but from what you saw Bolin was a nice guy, he was always so confident and cheery, but now you just wanted to read in peace no matter how nice he was. You smiled back to be polite, hoping he’d get the message but Bolin was too social for that. He smiled back "what are you doing in here all alone...ow you’re reading? Well I’ll get Pabu and leave you alone". You nodded and went back to your reading but Bolin’s calls made it hard. "Pabu come here" he cried reaching for Pabu who hid under the table. You tried to ignore them but Pabu was fast and scampered around the room while Bolin followed like a bull in a china shop. "What’s wrong with him?" you asked curious and Bolin looked at you still smiling "it’s bath day and he knows what’s coming". You smiled slightly and watched the event continue, giving up reading while this was happening. Finally Bolin had him cornered under a dresser but his arms were too big to reach under. Still bolin tried almost breaking everything on the dresser. "Bolin" you said as he almost jerked it over "let me try". Bolin looked at you and you gestured to your much smaller arms "i can reach under better, my arms are twigs". Bolin nodded "thanks y/n". You nodded "no problem, block his exit...erm is he likely to get violent?". "Pabu? Nah, he’s never attacked anyone". You nodded and leant down cautiously. "Do i just grab him..it seems mean". Bolin appreciated your worry for Pabu but nodded "you have to grab him and hold on tight, he hates baths a lot". You nodded and reached down to Pabu talking to him, telling him what you were doing for some reason. You almost touched him when suddenly he sprang at you and ran up your arm. You yelped as he reached your neck but all he did was nuzzle in it. Bolin knocked him away from you but Pabu tried scampering back up to you. "He seems to really like you" Bolin grinned "you must smell like noodles to him". You looked confused if that was a compliment and Bolin looked at you "sorry he jumped on you, I forget everyone’s not an animal person". "No it’s fine" you told him "I just wasn’t expecting him to do that" you smiled looking at Pabu "he’s really cute". Bolin nodded "wanna hold him?". You nodded and held out your palms. He placed Pabu in them and Pabu immedietly moved closer to you and climbed back up your neck. Bolin went to pull him away but saw you were laughing this time. “He tickles” you giggled "he must like my perfume”. You laughed as when you moved Pabu away he just wriggled back "hes adorable". Bolin nodded proud Pabu was finally getting some well deserved praise.
"Sorry again" Bolin told you backing out of the room. You told him it was fine and Mako entered as Bolin left. You realised Mako probably wanted food and pointed him in the direction of the pantry. He thanked you and paused "just so you know Bolin doesn’t mean any harm". You looked up confused and Mako rushed to explain "It’s just Bolins always been really outgoing and friendly, he doesn’t realise not everyone’s like that so im sorry if he and Pabu disturbed you, he didn’t mean to bother you, Korra says you’re very smart so I’m sure you have a lot of work to do". You blushed shaking your head "Korra exaggerates and Bolin and Pabu didn’t bother me, they’re both very sweet". Mako smiled at your expression, an idea forming in his head but he didn’t want to embarass you by pushing further, instead he just nodded "ill leave you in peace" and left the room.
Bolin had learned that was your hiding spot and found you there the next day. "You read a lot" he told you after  observing you for a bit and unsure what to reply and deep in thought translating texts you just nodded. "Is it school work?". You nodded "history". "Korra said you were smart". You brushed away his comment with your hand concentrating on getting the specifics of the text right. Pabu appeared on the table next to you watching you which put you off. You tried to ignore the fire ferret when you felt a presence behind you and jumped to see Bolin bent over trying to see what you were doing. "Sorry" he cried seeing you jump "i was just wondering what it is!". You shook your head as your heart returned to normal "it’s fine don’t worry". "So...what is it?" he asked and you bit your lip, you’d usually yell at Korra for talking while you were doing work but Bolin was too sweet to yell at. "It’s about an ancient settlement in the earth kigdom". Bolins interested sparked and he looked closer before he frowned "wait but..what language even is that?". "Videz" you explained and bolin nodded "i had no idea you knew different languages". You nodded "i know the traditional languages of all the 4 nations". Bolin grinned "awesome, what’s hello in water tribe dialect?". You told him and he grinned "awesome, what about in fire nation?". You told him and he grinned “what’s Bolin in air nation?". "Bolin" you told him and he blushed "ow yeah...what’s..." Bolin started when Mako and Korra appeared. "Bolin leave y/n alone" Mako scolded him. "Yeah y/n likes silence when she works, she always yells at me for asking stupid stuff like that" Korra said pointedly making you roll your eyes. Bolin blushed "ow sorry y/n i didn’t realise, you have to tell me to shut up sometimes, don’t feel bad I get it a lot". "It’s okay" you smiled slightly and Korra went to argue you never said that to her but Mako hit her gesturing between you both. Bolin saw him do it and frowned "what does that mean?". "Nothing" Mako said quickly "we were just getting food, now we’ve got it so were gonna go". They quickly left and Bolin stood up awkwardly "sorry for annoying you, I’ll leave you in peace". You smiled suprised you actually didn’t want him to go "Bolin if you want I could teach you some of this stuff...I mean if you’re interested". Bolin grinned "really?". You nodded aware the he was bored senseless now he didnt have pro-bending. "That’s amazing! I’ve always wanted to learn the ancient earth language, my father never taught me". You smiled “well I’d be happy to help you learn, although I’m not the best teacher". "I bet you’d be awesome" Bolin told you and you blushed "okay give me time to plan it, come back tomorrow and I’ll be ready". Bolin who never planned anything in his life was confused by the concept but nodded "me and Pabu will be exactly on time" he told you serious faced and him and Pabu saluted you in goodbye as they left the room. You laughed quietly and felt giddy at the thought of your little study date the next day which made you blush all over again. You guessed having more people in the house wasn’t so bad after all...especially if they were like Bolin.

got to be honest heroes are allowed to be flawed and make mistakes the notion that zuko doing actual bad things and trying to kill people while mako just mishandling the situation are different because zuko was a villain is annoying because people treated mako as if he was a villain and demonized him giving him the ron the death eater treatment ( vilifying him and trying to make him out to be a bad person when in the end he was a good person just one who made mistakes the narrative always acknowledged his flaws to be flaws he needed to be worked on him not being specifically punished after b1 and having good things happen to him is not being rewarded for his flaws ( korrasami amounted to a last minute retcon that broke the narrative which led to the idea of makorra getting back together the buildup to korrasami was nonexistent they were barely friends and nothing they had compared to mako and korras moments ( this notion that mako ending up single was karma for his mistakes is bs and by that logic korrra shouldhave been single because she was just as responsible for the love triangle when she forcibly kissed him after mako talk . ( when people try to push that mako deserved it because of his dithering behavior I go then zuko should have died in the end of b3 of atla as punishment for not going with the gaang in b2 emotional turmoil or conflict is irrelevant if its irrelevant that mako didnt mean to hurt anyone or that he was emotional conflict involving his desire for stability the show should have ended with makorra getting back together and asami single ( she doesnt need a romantic relationship she had been most of the time only used for romantic drama in b1 and b2 and just being thrown in at the last minute with korra in an ooc scene korrasami required korra being ooc mako deserved better
People didn't like Mako because he was a cheater. He can be a hero, but he's also a cheater, and people don't usually like cheaters. Especially when they don't do anything to get redeemed. I understand having flaws, but heroes also learn from their flaws. Mako didn't. He saw how much it hurt Asami when he cheated on her the first time. He saw how happy Asami was to get back with him, but he still cheated on her. The "didn't mean to hurt anyone" thing really loses its meaning if Mako keeps constantly hurting Asami and cheating on her despite seeing it causes her harm. There's ways to be a flawed character without being a total dick. I used to like Mako at first, but he's not a good guy. He never learns from his mistakes and he doesn't really care about anyone else other than himself (he cheated on Asami to be with Korra, twice, and when Bolin needed help getting out of his abusive relationship, Mako just ignored him). LoK never made Mako take responsibility for his actions. They just continued to ignore that what he did was wrong and everyone was pretty much cool with him again. It's just the story started treating him like a joke because Bryke didn't care about the story as long as it was something that pleased the fans. Zuko's situation was different than Mako's. We see and know Zuko's reasons for being a bad guy. He's introduced to us as the bad guy (whereas Mako is supposed to be the good guy). Zuko had a whole redemption arc happening before people started liking him. That isn't to say that people don't excuse a lot of Zuko's behavior while demonizing other characters (Aang, Katara, and so on). Zuko was also younger than Mako. I think he's like 16, while Mako is like 18. Also, Zuko didn't cheat on Mai. People would have probably liked him just as much as Mako if he became a cheater, too. I agree with you that the story was unfair to Mako in Book 3 and 4. If he ended up single, Korra should have ended up single as well, because she was just as guilty as Mako for hurting Asami. She knew well enough that Mako is dating Asami the first time they cheated, but she didn't care about anyone else's feelings. Korra wasn't a good person either, but she kept getting constantly rewarded and praised for being a bad person and a bad avatar. Sadly, the only way Bryke knew how to deal with conflict was to ignore it. That's why Korra and Mako never got any better and why so many people dislike both of them.

MASH season 3 thoughts
Putting my first impressions notes after each episode because i have lost control of my life. And i need my opinions on this show to be heard apparently
klinger deserves a some like it hot plot where he accidentally seduces a general, and thats his actual way out of the war. Also trapper seems to be embracing the jimmy buffet way of life, love that for him.
love hawkeye’s “fuck the army im a doctor“ energy in this one. i find the trapper/margaret thing interesting. at least she is showing some taste improvement. also hello beloved japanese actor Mako. nice to see you.
the spy asshat is back, and i can’t say i missed him. why bring this guy back when we could have pat morita :(  radar is in the top of the disgruntled little boy game and hes very cute about it
i cant believe that downton abbey ripped off mash.i know margaret has issues, but fucking the first old man she sees is just not the way to solve them. i like that we see hawk, margaret and trapper working together. BFFS WHEN??
this one some fucked up content. it’s fucked up that henry is excited about war medicine, that frank almost killed a guy, and that hawkeye had to give a succesful heart massage for the guy to die regardless. as an aside, frank confirmed as the grandfather of randall from recess.
klinger and radar episode hell yeah!!! im fascinated by the gender implications of klinger getting married in a dress. im also fascinated by how much everyone fucks. we need the horniness back to tv
1 maargaret is a fucking lesbian. 2 her and hawkeye have the definition of mlm wlw hostility and im here for it. 3trapper is a fucking himbo. 4 when they said goodbye to eachother it made me sad.
henry blake is a fucking hypocrite. you almost ruined your marriage way more times, relax. father mulcahy seems chill. and the bit with hawk and trapper riding a white horse was some romance novel bullshit.
they are all going to be so fucked up in the head when they get out. there are multiple characters saying that they need to drink to cope!!!
everyone is so horny and fucking so much, bless! ”knowing youll kill me makes my life worthwhile“GIRL GET HELP. franks wife looks like someone i would be friends with. frank burns unwilling lesbian magnet confirmed
i like  when the funny guy gets angry and a little bit insane. i too would try to start a revolution for good food.and he didnt even get to eat it. the injustice of it all
weird how the turkish guy is insane and violent and the luxemburgian guys are very civiliced. weird how that happens. and the radar is a nevernude saga continues. whay are you trying to hide my man?
radar is so proud of his little zoo i love him. the anti puberty pills joke has confirmed my radar is a trans guy hc. the joke of asian people eating dog was incredibly unnecesary.and the part about the ptsd kid is weird because they understand the severity of it, but they lack the vocabulary.
radar continues to be the cutest even tho he is being a real #vegan about the lamb thing. and trapper continues his slow transformation into jimmy buffet.
nurse sanchez ilu. the tact that nothing is happening in the trapper/margaret front is interesting. she obviously wants to, but she doesnt because thats not the kind of woman she thinks she should be. because shes just performing femeninity, and also i might be proyecting a bit
margaret is so nasty when shes angry. i love her so much. kick franks ass baby,i got you. and who doesn’t want to kiss klinger?? the whole picnic thing was wholesome.
so war is hell, and even when you think you are prepared for it, you are not. the fact that all that is happening  to the father of the main actor connot possibly have implications
FINALLY!!a nurse over 30!!!i know that the joke is that she is flirting while being ugly, but look at her go!! love that the whole camp went out of their way to accomodate hawkeyes. we love a united front against frank burns.
margaret monolgue!!i knew you have gender issues girl!!! i was informed that this was a comedy but i think there has been a mistake. either way i love when hawkeye and margaret are besties
Ah, prostitution, the classic topic of many comedies. at the very least they balance it with asian people who are regular people tryin to live their lives
if theres something i appreciate in this show is the refusal to take the people in power seriously.  but where the hell does klinger get the material for his dresses??? he got a liberty statue awfully fast
lesbian nurse in the poker game, you have my heart. henry and trapper are both so dumb in this. i know its humilliating to be bad babes but you can just not play
oh no flagg is back. and frank fantasices about being a woman to be with him.... ok yeah, sure? nice of henry to grow a backbone.after so long
i had something thoughtful to say, but now its just
FUCK NO

It sucks that mako and bolin are underdeveloped, bolin especially (& even Mako is “developed” in ways that are kinda unsatisfactory, mostly via love triangle bullshit or him becoming a cop) bc like the fact that they’re homeless orphans from a potentially multicultural background like automatically makes them more interesting than 90% of these annoying corrupted political figures the show spends so much time with, & it’s like never rly explored?
Like republic city is former earth kingdom territory turned fire nation colony, the whole reason aang & Zuko Did A Colonialism was bc they didnt want to displace the mixed Fire nation/earth kingdom families that were living there for potentially generations, so it might’ve been interesting to explore characters from a mixed background? Especially bc the way they handle Kataang’s family is honestly kinda bad, the show treats tenzin like he’s culturally an airbender, kya like she’s culturally a waterbender, and bumi like he’s neither. They’re a MIXED INDIGENOUS FAMILY. Plus Mako & Bolin’s multicultural background is different from Kataang’s family. The SWT & the Air Nomads we’re both victims of the fire nation’s imperialism. A family where one side is from the fire nation (we just don’t know how far back) is a completely different dynamic.
Like the s3 stuff where Mako & Bolin find their family in ba sing se is good for what it is! I’m glad they have family! It’s good material for them and they deserve it after being alone for so long but it’s almost like being in republic city or being orphans or both was almost an excuse to just divorce them from their multicultural background which to me is rly missed potential. The effects of Japanese imperialism are SO prevalent across Asia, it’s fricking weird that none of that imperial influence is apparent in any of the colonized territory in Atla. Bc they don’t spend hardly any time in former colonies! And it’s not until s4! & we see the separate earth kindom territories are struggling do to a power vacuum, but really? After 100 years, no fire nation influence on any of this territory?
And like it’s a real missed opportunity bc like it would’ve been rly interesting to address Bolin’s background during his lavabender arc! But the show treats it almost like a level-up or a cool new gimmick. Alternatively/Additionally, the fact that they’re disconnected from their background could be like a Thing bc Mako and Bolin use bending purely for like. Survival & competitive sport. Reconnecting w Earth Kingdom & Fire Nation culture could’ve been really interesting directions for them, especially in terms of like. Them finding a sense of belonging. Blood relatives are good but found family? That could’ve been so powerful.
Bending as like a cultural practice honestly goes kinda unaddressed and forgotten in LoK? Or, it’s addressed, but it’s rly inconsistent. The contrast between bending as competitive fighting sport vs. bending as a big component of a pacifist culture like the Air nation is a rly interesting idea, but bending as an aspect of the other nations is just kinda forgotten about. I mean, Amon made some points but also Amon ur really gonna tell me that airbenders have privilege? During s1 there 5 of them in the world, total, including korra, because they were nearly wiped out via genocide 100 years ago. And yes, he’s the villain, but this aspect of his anti-bender ideology is never critized, they just rely on him and his goons using extremist tactics that are easy to dispute, or scary displays of his power unsettling and disturbing Korra.
Anyways I got kinda sidetracked from my point bc I think the treatment of Mako and Bolin is also a larger issue that kinda bleeds into the world of LoK as a whole & shows some of the problems w the worldbuilding, but just. Ah. I wish those two had been given some real material instead of getting wrapped up in love triangle drama and playing bodyguard and actor for so much of the show
Edit: I elaborated on my thoughts a bit if you wanna check the notes it’s a long read tho so w/e if ppl prefer this short version for brevity it’s fine

Final Thoughts
So fuck this bullshit spewing Anon. He is a filthy Bolin kidnapping coward and Korra should kick his ass. (But be careful sweety. I don’t want him to take your bending away.)
I am glad that Bolin is safe and home, and Mako is a good brother even if he is a little rude and has bad tastes in eyebrow fashion.
I love Pabu. I love Naga. I would die for them both.
Okay. I promised Uncle @aboutiroh that I would go to bed after this episode. So I will. Tomorrow I have to get a lot of writing done, so once that’s out of the way it is right back at it with episode four.

1) HOW OLD IS KORRA IN THIS SHIT BECAUSE MY GIRL LOOKS LIKE SHES PUSHING 19 AND I WANT TO KNOW WHY IS NEVER OCCURED TO TENZIN TO TEACH HER AIRBENDING SOONER??? LIKE WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIM AND THEN SHE HAD NO TEACHER AT ALL?? WHY WOULDNT HE WANT TO TEACH HER AS A CHILD WHEN WE KNOW FROM ATLA THAT THE AIR NOMADS START TRAINING AS SMALL CHILDREN ANYWAY???? MAYBE KORRA WOULDNT BE STRUGGLING WITH AIRBENDING IF TENZIN HADNT WAITED UNTIL SHE WAS A GROWN FUCKING WOMAN TO TEACH HER
2) WHY HASNT KORRA COMMUNICATED WITH AANG EVEN ONCE LIKE IS HE NOT DEAD IS HE JUST HIDING IN ONE OF THE ABANDONED AIR TEMPLES LIKE THAT GURU WHY ISNT HE GUIDING HER BOY DO YOUR JOB
3) I HATE THAT KATARA IS THE ONLY SURVIVING MEMBER OF THE ORIGINAL TEAM AND IVE ONLY SEEN HER ONE GODDAMN TIME THATS BULLSHIT
4) THERE HASNT EVEN BEEN A FLASHBACK WITH KATARA AND THAT REALLY HAS ME HEATED WHAT WAS SHE DOING WHILE SOKKA TOPH AND AANG WERE BUILDING THIS DUMBASS CITY
5) Bolin is cuter than Mako. PeriodT.
6) NO ONE HAS EXPLAINED HOW TARRLOK AND HIS DAD CAN BLOODBEND WITHOUT THE FULLMOON THEY WERE JUST LIKE “OH YAKONE WAS HIS DAD THAT MAKES SENSE!!!” NO THE FUCK IT DOESNT LIN BECAUSE IT DOESNT EXPLAIN HOW. THEY. DO. IT!!!!!
7) I THINK ITS MAD DISRESPECTFUL TO HAVE A WHOLE STORYLINE ABOUT BLOODBENDING AND NOT INCLUDE KATARA AT ALL LIKE WHY WASNT SHE AT YAKONES TRIAL IF THEY SUSPECTED HIM OF BLOODBENDING AND SHES LIKE THE ONLY OTHER PERSON THEY KNOW WHO CAN DO IT THATS JUST DUMB AND THEY DESERVED TO GET THEIR ASSES KICKED IN THAT COURT ROOM FUCKING IDIOTS
8) Idk how I feel about Asami. I knew her dad was up to something from the get-go but I can’t tell what the writers are trying to do with Asami besides pitting her against Korra for fucking Mako’s attention which is DUMB
9) Tenzin and Lin dating in the past is hilarious omg can you imagine Aang, Katara, and Toph when they found out I bet Toph pissed herself laughing so hard at her daughter dating Twinkle Toes Jr

My thoughts on lok characters after watching season 2
Thoughts on characters before watching | after season 1 | after season 2 | after season 3
Korra: SHES THE FIRST IN THE NEW AVATAR LINE??? HOLY SHIT bro I love her so so much it's insane shes a queen and I love her thank you bye
Jinora: MY QUEEN MY PRINCESS MY GODDESS BRO JINORA IS INSANE YOU GO MY CHILD TALKING WITH SPIRITS AND STUFF YOU GOOOOOOOOOOOO shes deadass such an interesting character and it kind of explains how Iroh could see Aang on the dragon when he was in the spirit world bc apparantly some people can see the spirits while others cant. Anyway Jinora was AMAZING in this season. I love how they made her real mature and proper yet didnt forget she is also still a child and I think they captured it amazingly
Tenzin: I love how he finally figured out he isn't his dad but hes his own self. Such a beautiful message to take to heart and it fits this season's entire message perfectly
Mako: ....same as last time sadly. I like him and I think hes very interesting but the lies man. I love how hes a cop now and he knew what was going on from the start like yes KING but like Korra's gone for 3 secs and hes all into Asami again but then Korra returns and hes like ah right yes let's now switch the switch again flip flip and just yk get back with her betraying Asami again.... bs
Bolin: still love him. I would die for him. So precious. I love how in his feelings he is and how everything just goes right to his head. I love him
Asami: still strange vibes but it's getting better. They're handling her traumas really well and I love that shes just a hard working, enthusiastic business woman! You go queen! (Still in my dreams bro shes gorgeous)
Eska: THIS BITCH IS HILARIOUS OH MY GOD EVERY LINE THAT COMES FROM HER MOUTH IS ICONIC
Kya: so different from what I imagined! Sass queen. I love her a ton
Wan: WHAT A MAN ABSOLUTE KING
Bumi: I LOVE LOVE LOVE BUMI SUCH A BUMI HES AMAZING what an absolute interesting character I love him, I love how he is with the kids and I love how airheaded he is
Unalaq: so last time I thought he was Amons brother bc i just got lost in the characters but now i know hes not so. Anyway what an asshole. Who in his right mind thinks he can be an evil avatar and think that's a good idea? And he doesnt give a shit about his kids? Ok.
Meelo: I love Meelo. My child
Varrick: I LOVE VARRICK I KNEW HE WAS A BADDIE WHEN WE FORST LAYED EYES ON HIM BUT OH MY GOD HES MY HERO MY LOVE MY ABSOLUTE ANGEL MAN I LOVE LOVE HIM
Pabu: wasnt as present in this season but I would still die for him
Pema:BEST MOM HER CHILD IS A GHOST AND SHES JUST LIKE "BE CAREFUL SWEETIE" LIKE YES EVERYONE DESERVES A MOM LIKE HER
Hiroshi: still an ass. I like how well they're treating Asamis trauma regarding him
Tonraq: absolute daddy. Literally
Desna: also love him. He knew when his dad went crazy and kinda started doubting whether or not he should still fight for him. We stan an observant man
Senna: I love Senna. Beautiful queen. Amazjng mom. So sweet. I love
Ikki: SO SWEET WHAT A LOVELY LOVELY CHILD MY PRINCESS I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVVVEEEE YOU
Naga: STILL MY BABY BABY
Iroh: what a king. So ready to help Korra. The moment she asked.
Overall thoughts so far:
Oh my gosh this season was great. I love that we learned how the avatar came to be and why the avatar is so different and special from all the other people. I love the characters we got introduced to this season (Varrick is my love) and I love what they did with the already existing characters. Overall this season was great and I'm very much enjoying this series as a whole. I cant wait to start on season 3!!

The Legend of Korra: Makorra is better than K*rrasami!?! My honest thoughts on this debate!!!
comments on  youtube
I’m not at all against LGBT representation; but I care a lot about how it’s written or introduced. Korrasami just did not feel natural. If anything it just felt like they were becoming better and closer friends. Whereas Makorra, I’ll admit had some problems and a break up was necessary, went through a great deal of change and growth. And they absolutely deserved another chance at love with each otherShow less I feel the same way it's like korra and asami are just like good besties or really close friends I mean yes their both independent and good but there's no spark in their love or relationship as no one even thought of that or is unexpected I always thought korra will end up with mako til the end but yeah the love triangle or mako's confusion and Kora's responsibility both get on the way but am still hoping maybe they might workout since everyone can change by timeShow less
Bro I wish there was a way we could form a makorra community to retcon the comics and make a different storyline after season 4.Korrasami just feels unnatural.Hopefully once shity Covids over someone has the brains to do it same as a lot of people have done like fan films for star wars sequels and stuff
Thank you for this, but nowadays we can't even say we don't like Korrasami or criticize how poorly it is made without being called homophobic
on the blush part and how you brought up how toph  blushed at a compliment from someone she had no romantic feelings toward I also have to point out that korra blushed at bolins compliment as well and its been shown that she had no romantic feelings for bolin ( also in b1 bryke referred to korra and mako as soulmates)
in remembrances in b4 mako got a whole speech about what korra meant to him as a person ( while in that ep asami only brought up korra the avatar ( going of course we need you youre the avatar )  and korras problem was focusing on korra the avatar not as a person asami failed in helping her she misunderstood what korra needed  (  while tenzin succeded by bringing up korra as a person and makos speech makes me think if mako was there instead of asami mako would have understood what korra needed)  which is why I dont see korra and asami scene in b4 as evidence for korrasami
it makes it clear to me bryke just threw in korrasami at the last minute they outright admitted that when they wrote the finale they had thought about how they didnt involve representation  and went to the execs to see if they can do it ) it says to me that they didnt build up to korrasami and just threw it in at the last minute and then proceeded to try and cover their asses  by pretending it was planned
( heck in the finale when jinora said they couldnt find her the camera focused on makos face not asamis camera zooms and music swells signify importance so makos reaction  was given importance over asamis
(mako and korra  had   mutual flaws that broke them up in b2 and had overcame those flaws  and proceeded to  reconnect and support each other on good terms
this is a story in the end good writing is more important  then whether a ships representation or not   korrasami was just thrown in at the last minute it had no buildup its not good writing to make it happen while its rep making korrasami happen is just bad writing thus it shouldnt have happened ( not to mention korra going on vacation is ooc of her )
in my eyes if they really were concerned about rep they should have said to themselves in the next series we make we will include lgbt rep with a mc and have hints to kya being lgbt in finale or  or imply asami is bi but not having her get together with korra)
“ reunion strongly implied that Korra wrote only the one letter, and giving Korra more direct interactions with Mako than Asami.“
ikkinthekitsune . tumblr . com/post/116230735171/im-really-tired-of-this-of-korrasami-was-subtle#notes
I'm really tired of this of Korrasami was subtle nonsense from Korrasami shippers for 2 reasons. 1 Subtle means non existent all these people have is a letter and a blush really Makorra has whole episodes like The Revelation and Beyond the Wilds, and a 11 minute segment in Remembrances. 2 Korra is not a subtle person when she wants something/someone she goes hard at the goal like in Book she was not subtle at all in regards to wanting Mako as you and many others have pointed out
The trick with being subtle is that subtle needs to exist in an environment quiet enough not to drown it.  If implications that the writers didn’t intend are louder than the ones that they did intend (as is the case of both Beyond the Wilds and Remembrances), there’s a serious problem.
And, yeah, Korra is absolutely the wrong person to characterize with romantic subtlety.  Korra’s as subtle as a jackhammer, and it’s entirely fair for the audience to expect her to continue to be that way.
heck the blush isnt evidence for romantic attraction for korra for she blushed after asami complimented her ( when korra was feeling down) the same thing happened in spirits of competition with bolin who she clearly showed she wasnt into romantically
instead have korra with mako and talk about how much work they have to do ( possibly a hint or 2 of them getting back together
( I have to add that in the
and on the censorship claim
"Censorship explains why we couldn’t get a kiss and an “I love you” in the finale or blatant romantic scenes, not the utter lack of Korra-Asami interaction as a whole. They had six (to six and a half) minutes of interaction in the last season, spread out over six interactions/conversations. They’ve had nearly no on-screen interaction since “Long Live the Queen,” actually. They had the 5 second “I can come to the South Pole” convo in “Korra Alone” (which Korra refused), the single letter, their interactions in “Reunions,” and then the tea scene in “Remembrances.” After that, they don’t speak again until the last two minutes of the finale. The episode after “Remembrances” is the Korra-Mako field trip to the Spirit Wilds and Zaheer’s prison and the culmination of Korra’s recovery arc. Where was Asami? She had two lines in the whole episode, and they were both to Varrick."
and bryke only thought of korrasami at the last minute when they were making the finale and  admitted that whenhe went to  the executives to ask if they could do it  it was the finale of book 4 was already being made ( paraphrased ) he out right talked about how he thought to himself  about how they didnt include any lgbt rep and when they were making the finale he went to the executives to see if they could do it ( it was only at  the last minute that he even asked and how he worded it  combined with the nonexistent buildup ( it wasnt subtle it was nonexistent )  adds to my belief that  he only thought about korrasami being a thing at the last minute andd threw it in at the last minutes in an ooc scene   as a publicity stunt they did korrasami because it was popular
mako showed he could support korra the way she needed to be supported in the field trip episode while asami showed she couldnt in remembrances where she went you are the avatar we need you then tenzin came in and succeded to help korra by bringing up how she grew as a person
korra thinking of korraas the avatar and centering her identity on that was her whole issue
mako was the only
Tumblr media
( it would have been better if instead of making a  last minute retcon either have it implied asami crushing on korra but not having korra reciprocate  or having kya imply she has a girlfriend  ( with korra talking with the krew  about how there is a lot of work to do  ( with possible makorra hints )
asami doesnt seem to really get korra she seems to treat Korra as a lot more fragile and needy than Korra really is in a way that Korra doesn’t ever seem to appreciate.
the aspersions Bryan cast on the fandom for not accepting what amounted to a last-minute retcon have been functioning (whether intentionally or not) to shield the creators from any criticism for their own fault in the poor execution of their endgame ship, allowing them to take all of the credit for being “subversive” and none of the blame for breaking their existing narrative to do it.
bryke admitted they only asked if they could do it
when they were making the finale and they claimed  that it was brought up by a realization they didnt include any rep ( whether thats true or its just a publicity stunt doesnt matter korrasami being the first only same sex pairing in avatar series doesnt matter it being the first same sex pairing with a main protagonist  in cartoons doesnt matter . it doesnt matter that korrasami was the only same sex pairing in lok ( that without it lok would have no lgbt rep ( it would be no diffferent from atla  in that regard and good writing is more important then filling a quota )
it  shouldnt have been done good writing is more important then that  throwing in a ship as a last minute retcon is just bad writing  I  would say if they were really concerned about that rather than break narrative an act of bad writing  make a side character lgbt or imply asami is bi
(  just make it happen with main character in a next series they make it wouldnt ahve  the same impact but it would be better  then a last minute retcon with no buildup   and breaking the narrative which pointed to makorra getting backtogether ( who overcome the mutual flaws that led to the breakup ( and got along well ( neither of them would have worked with anyone in b2
given korras canonical personality  along with asamis  and how their needs  Icant imagine korrasami working (and they had to change korras canonical personality to try and get it to work )
fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/105933518980
And yet they had almost no interaction after “Long Live the Queen.“
Let’s count ‘em out, shall we?
The "I’ll watch over her as she meditates” scene in “The Ultimatum” (which, though people may look at it as romantic, is honestly horribly practical considering Mako and Bolin had their entire family that needed to be relocated and resettled at the time)
The hug in “Enter the Void” (of which Mako got one too–and who got the close-up and the music swell? It wasn’t the Korra-Asami hug)
The ‘I’m here to talk if you need me’ scene in “Venom of the Red Lotus” (which at that point could have easily been interpreted as a scene between two friends/a supportive and compassionate friend, and which was very in character for Asami as a whole)
Asami’s offer to go to the South Pole with Korra in “Korra Alone” (which Korra refused)
Korra’s single letter to Asami (which is also ambiguous; you could read it as romantic or you could read it as “who else is she gonna reply to? Her ex-boyfriend, who she’s still awkward with, or Bolin, who bless him, truly cares, but is naive and isn’t really all that serious and besides that is currently working for the woman taking what Korra views as "her job”)
Their interactions in “Reunions” (which focused equally on her reunion with Mako and the Wu drama)(four interactions, two of which were directly related to the Wu drama and the other two on Korra’s leave of absence/silence)
The tea scene in “Remembrances” (during which Asami said nothing to Korra that Tenzin didn’t echo and that Mako, Tenzin, and Bolin hadn’t said to Korra before)
The last minutes of the finale
So over the course of the 14 episodes of Book 4, we have a grand total of five interactions between Korra and Asami, only 1 of which can be nonambiguously interpreted as romantic ( ( altered by me ) the finale conversation). Meanwhile Mako and Korra get an entire episode dedicated to finishing Korra’s recovery arc and their friendship/relationship? And Mako is there to support Korra during the culmination of her recovery arc, not Asami, the person Bryke is attempting to write in a potential future romantic relationship with Korra? And Mako is the one who Bryke basically explicitly states within canon as being still deeply in love with Korra and being inspired by her (several times), while Asami never gets a word in about how she feels about Korra until those last five minutes? And Mako is the one who the “camera” focuses on when Jinora says she can’t find Korra in the finale, not Asami? And a dozen other things? Lol, seems unevenly balanced to me.
The only member of the core Krew Korra had less interaction this season with was Bolin, with whom she only got one direct conversation the entire season (“Beyond the Wilds”).
Like…say what you want, but that’s very poor relationship development. It’s poor FRIENDSHIP development too (like god, poor Bolin; he was her first friend, too). Bryke dropped the ball on interpersonal relationship development within the Krew this season. Like hell, I expected Korra to remain single and I still think there was a far bigger case for the rebuilding of the Makorra relationship at this point (as presented within canon) than there was for the building of a Korrasami relationship.
the problem with book 2 makorra wasnt that there was conflict it was the way they handled that conflict and they fixed that issue by b4  makorra wasnt a terrible relationship
korra wouldnt have worked with anyone in book 2
arguing isnt inherently unhealthy (
I view korrasami as a last minute retcon ( they admitted they thought of korrasami around the time finale was being made an thats when they went to the executive to ask if they could do it
They admitted they didn’t approach the network until the finale was underway, they edited it in in retakes, and (I’ve heard but I can’t confirm) called the voice actresses in in secret to record their final dialogue.
before the last couple of minutes there was nothing that hinted at korrasami being more then platonic fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/105951907185

(all from “The Southern Lights”–thanks to forevergirlkorra)
During the pictured hug: “You never cease to amaze me.”
Korra: “Thanks. By the way, I’m really sorry for being a total pain. Things were really stressful and pretty confusing. It’s hard being the Avatar.”
Mako: “[Jokingly] It’s harder being the Avatar’s boyfriend. [Nudges Korra before they hug.]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What do all of these arguments have in comment? Oh wait…Korra picking fights and trying to force Mako to “pick sides” (which side is never clear). What else do all these arguments have in common? Oh right…Mako attempting to be a supportive, loving boyfriend while attempting to do his job.
And the big one that you seem to be focusing on.
Tumblr media
For context, this is immediately after Mako’s found out that Korra is basically planning insurrection and hauling off sections of the United Forces (commanded by General Iroh) against the will of Raiko and Republic City. Aka, doing it her way instead of trying to understand Raiko’s point of view (and I hate him, hate him hate him hate him, but I still understand what he was doing and why he was doing it when he refused her plea for troops) and actually trying to promote peace. Korra was emotionally compromised and under incredible stress the entire season. Mako attempted to be supportive and loving and continued to do so until Korra’s actions interfered with his ability to do his job to the fullest extent and interfered with his ability to follow the law. Yes; he chose following the law over letting his girlfriend wander off with a section of the United Republic’s army. That’s not choosing Korra over his job. That’s Korra blatantly interfering with his ability to do his job truthfully and faithfully.
As Raiko said: “Your activities here are bordering on insurrection. The Avatar does not command the military of the Republic. Don’t go behind my back again.”
Korra has no right to command the Republic’s military. It’s not under her authority, and it’s not her decision. And instead of taking no for an answer, Korra thought she could just go behind Raiko’s back and wander off with them anyway. Honestly, the best thing Mako did in this situation was inform Raiko about the situation.
And the kicker: the breakup.
Tumblr media
Let’s see what’s going on, yeah? Mako is trying to figure out who bombed the Southern Tribe Cultural Center, trying to do his normal job as a cop, and trying to keep his girlfriend from committing treason and insurrection because she thinks an army is the best way to solve the Water Tribe Civil War. Korra is under incredible stress, dealing with the Water Tribe Civil War, her home being invaded, her parents imprisoned or hurt, and Raiko’s apparent callousness to the whole situation. NO relationship could thrive under these conditions, even the strongest one. You are repeatedly ignoring the CONTEXT of the situation in which they broke up. Mako repeatedly tried to help and be supportive, and Korra repeatedly rebuffed him and picked fights. Though they were both to blame (for varying reasons), the fault for the disintegration of their relationship lies mainly at Korra’s feet and the feet of outside influences/events.
And alright…let’s get some things straight on the whole Makorrasami drama in the back half of Book 2.
Good, I’m glad you admit that Asami kissed him. That’s half the battle with some people. Now we get to examine Asami'smutual complicity and responsibility in the creation and mishandling of the Makorrasami drama instead of blaming it all on Mako.
So. “The Sting.” Mako, seeing that Asami’s in trouble, organizes an unofficial sting operation, culminating in a double cross that leaves Asami’s last warehouse empty. The following exchange happens:
Asami: [Defeated.] Just stop. It’s over. I give up.
Mako: Well, I’m not giving up on you.
Asami: [She kisses Mako.] Sorry, I-
Mako: Uh … It’s-it’s okay. Um … anyway … I gotta run. I’m gonna find out who did this. And I know just who to ask.
Tumblr media
Now, this was not technically in the wrong, as both of them are single, but it was still a dick move. Asami is well aware that Mako and Korra just broke up, and yet she seems to give no thought to the implications of getting back together with Mako, especially the implications for her friendship with Korra. Not to mention the fact that she seems to give no thought to Mako’s feelings or emotions and what he’s going through in the aftermath of the breakup. It’s honestly a bit out of character for Asami, though it’s probably explained by her own personal emotional vulnerability at the time, considering she had basically just lost everything.
Now, anyway, fast forward through Wan’s story to “The Guide.”
Asami: [To Mako.] “Sounds like you’ve had a pretty busy week.” [Puts her hand on his chest.] “Maybe you just need to relax.”
Bolin[Pensively.] “Wait a minute. Are you two— ”[Mako and Asami look back at him before he gasps and points his finger toward them.] “you’re dating again? What?”
Mako:“Dating? No!”
Asami: “That’s crazy!”
Bolin: “Korra just left a week ago!”
Mako: [Cut to aerial view.] “Guys, listen to me. Varrick is up to no good, and I have proof.”
It’s left up in the air as to whether or not they’re actually dating. Both say they aren’t, but it comes off as kind of a ‘yeah but we’re not going to admit it.’ We get one more kiss and the sort of hint of a possible date. “Remembrances” points out that the relationship was not official, and that neither him nor Asami had actually worked out whether they were dating again (when I was watching, I was trying to figure out if they were actually dating or if it was a friend with benefits relationship+emotional baggage). Bolin assumes they are (and brings up Asami as “kinda started dating” in “Harmonic Convergence”), but we never get a clear picture about what’s going on there. Anyway, immediately after this, Mako is arrested, Asami seemingly abandons him, claiming that it’s “too painful to see him in prison because it reminds her of her father.”
And then Korra comes back and we get that whole clusterfuck. Yes, Mako screwed up. Yes, it was wrong. And yes, he was called out for it and faced the consequences of his actions. Mako clearly felt guilty about doing it as soon as it happened; we see him attempt  at least twice to tell Korra about their situation during the course of the next two episodes (pre-Harmonic Convergence stuff going down), only to stop because a) he’s terrified of her reaction (rightly so considering her reaction to their first breakup and the initial situation in which he was going to tell her about it) b) he doesn’t want to hurt her even more (she did run off crying in “Peacekeepers,” and he does love her) and c) in his own words, “I guess I wanted to pretend that the breakup never happened.” C is the least acceptable reasoning for not telling, but they’re all pretty horrible excuses.
….and yet Asami never said anything. We get like what? The two shots of her looking at him in annoyance and betrayal? But she never says anything about it, either to Mako or Korra. Why not? She’s had no problem calling Mako out before in regards to their relationship (“Turning the Tides”). Why does she stay silent?
So yes, he took advantage of the situation presented to him. Yes, this was a dick move, and something that he should be called out for (and was). Was it cheating? Possibly. It could go either way. If it was, Bryke made practically no effort to show and define it as such. Mako is only responsible for the mishandling of the fallout. Let’s not forget that the consequences of him doing this was a “real” breakup with Korra in “Light in the Dark” and lingering awkwardness around Korra and Asami the first half of the third season. Not to mention the fandom’s everlasting hatred. Mako was not rewarded for his actions; far from it.
Mako’s character is centered on protecting people and being in control of his life, both of which stem from his childhood and adolescence on the streets and basically becoming a father to Bolin at the age of eight. This leads to some poor handling of his interpersonal relationships due to him a) not having had any before and b) wanting to not hurt those he cares about. As Tu said in “Remembrances,”“You know, it seems like you’re so afraid to disappoint anyone that you end up disappointing everyone.”
The other ironic thing is that you are passionately arguing against why Makorra doesn’t work, ignoring the immense growth both characters experienced in Books 3 and 4 that would make it so that they would work. People always point out “they didn’t work,” not recognizing that it was outside pressures that was the catalyst for their breakup (as far as we know, they had a happy, healthy, functioning relationship for the entire six-month gap; we don’t get to see that portion, as Book 2 starts up with the tension already brewing) and that it was their mutual immaturity, conflicting responsibilities, and an inability to apologize that led to their breakup. ALL THINGS THAT HAVE CHANGED SINCE BOOK 2. Korrasami shippers neglect and refuse to recognize the growth of Korra and Mako since Book 2 that lead to their ability to have a functioning relationship post-Book 4.
Both Korra and Mako have had independent character development over the course of Books 3 and 4 that essentially solve the issues that drove them apart in Book 2. Both learned how to juggle their own personal emotional issues with their jobs, both grew up and matured, Mako learned how to handle his interpersonal relationships with people better, Korra’s emotional arc progressed immensely and cooled her naivety and hotheadedness down quite a bit, Korra (largely) has stopped defining herself by her role as the Avatar (and thus basing her self-worth solely on that identity and her capacity to perform it), they learned how to apologize to each other when they argued (something showcased in “Reunion” and something rather lacking in their relationship during Book 2)…they basically grew up, and it did WONDERS for any relationship they might have post-Book 4, whether that relationship be platonic or romantic. However, you saying that Korra and Mako didn’t work and so can’t work ignores the immense growth both characters have experienced since their breakup that affect how they would treat their relationship and how well it would work out.
Alright. Since this post is already getting WAY too long, I’m going to point you here (fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/106434942870/korra-mako-interactions-vs-korra-asami), here( fantastic-nonsense . tumblr .  com/post/106208675325/littlekorrasamithings-everyone-saying-korrasami), here (fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/105951907185/whats-so-frustrating-about-all-the-complaints), here(fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/178468915315/how-mako-talks-about-korra-vs-how-asami-talks/embed), here ( fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/105945181530/queensolverson-answered-your-post) , here (fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/105843268765/i-think-its-funny-that-you-say-korrasami-is), and here (fantastic-nonsense . tumblr . com/post/106044561415/commissionergorgon-commissionergorgon) for why I think Asami and Korra got way less development. Short answer: they got less screentime, less interaction, less relationship buildup, and less depth, not to mention blatant OOCness on both their parts during the finale scene.
And just for kicks, because you brought up the blush:
Tumblr media
“Are you kidding me? You’re the smartest, funniest, toughest, buffest, talentedest, incrediblest girl in the world!” [Korra laughs] “You really feel that way about me?”
[The Borra ship went on to sink coldly and cruelly halfway through this episode and never resurfaced]
Now why do you think there were issues interpeting the blush as romantic (even though that’s one of the three non-ambiguous romantic scenes I actually counted in my tally up)? Gee, I wonder if it’s beacause Korra has been shown blushing at compliments others give her before (whether her feelings towards those people are romantic or platonic) and blushing in embarrassment. Not to mention the fact that Korra had been very self-conscious about herself all season. The fact is: that scene was ambiguous and could have been interpreted any number of ways. That’s the problem. You CAN see it as romantic, but it’s extremely easy not to.
And if that’s the only moment you can drag up hun, you’ve got a long way to go. I’ve been debating this all week and literally tallied up the total interaction Korra and Asami had and the total interaction Korra and Mako had in the last two seasons. Fact remains: Korra and Asami had very little on-screen interaction compared to Korra and just about everyone else, and Korra and Mako got nearly twice the interactions and nearly triple the screentime in Book 4 as Korra and Asami. You’re going to have to try way harder.
scoroseposts-deactivated2015062 asked: I think people who don’t understand why it is that some of us queer, not, whomever, have legitimate concerns with K/orrasami, is because they’re associated our concerns with the ship itself, as in the possibility of romance between Korra and Asami, or a romance between two woman. That however is simply not the case. It isn’t a possible romance between KA or the fact that it’s between two women; it’s the way it was PORTRAYED in canon that’s the issue. KA is a valid ship, that much is not and has
never been contested by the people who I’ve come across in this fandom who take issue with the way the ship was portrayed. Had things gone differently, or had there been a 5th book titled rebirth where we see more in depth how the three years changed the characters, saw Korra come to a better sense of healing and completion, and dealt with the aftermath of war WITH Kuvira in a legitimate way, and we saw KA become closer romantically, then the romance would have been supported in canon in a much
more holistic and equal way. Instead, we have back pedaling, inconsistent characterization, and a unneeded vacation that I honestly don’t know would have been beneficial for either Korra OR Asami, Korra more specifically because even though she has learned that the Avatar need not be alone, she still is the Avatar and wants to fulfil her duties to the best of her abilities. And it just isn’t in Korra’s characterization, even three years later, to walk away from a problem when she knows she can
help. Hence 99.9% of the reasons why the people who do not like the ending or the ship, take issue with it becoming canonized. Not because it became canon or because it was between KA, but BECAUSE IT WAS PORTRAYED IN A WAY THAT WAS CHARACTER INCONSISTENT AND THROWN TOGETHER IN THE LAST TWO MINUTES. Please feel free to add anything I missed in my frustrated rant. You seem to be one of the few who genuinely understands my issues with the way some of B4 played out.
I guess what I would add is this – one of the reasons the people who liked Book 1/Book 2 Korra are so staunchly against KA is that the ship itself requires undesirable changes to Korra’s characterization to operate.
The change you suggested – add a fifth Book showing how the characters were changed in greater depth – wouldn’t have changed the fact that a Korra who was portrayed as interested in such a relationship would have looked very little like the character we loved in the first two Books.  It’d make for a more consistent story, but that wouldn’t make the change of direction any less palatable (in fact, I’m much happier with things the way, actually, because at least now it’s not difficult to amputate the parts that mess up Korra’s characterization).
In other words, the issue isn’t that the writers didn’t support the ship enough (though it’s pretty clear that they didn’t) – the issue is that the writers chose two of the worst characters to throw together in the first place.  Korra can’t fill the role they tried to have her fill while still being Korra (since she’s far too open about her affection to pull off plausible deniability).  Asami isn’t the sort of character Korra can even be herself around.  They needed different characters more than better writing… and that has nothing to do with both of them being female and everything to do with who they each are as individuals.

1) the breakup??? that bryke was ‘very specific about’ that they had to lean into it and kiss and walk away still clinging to each others hands?? and honestly i’ve never heard of or seen a breakup in which they kiss to end it.
2) the hugs/meaningful glances in book 3?
and what even was that look from korra to Mako after she hugged him??/
that special moment they shared?
the camera zooming in on their hug when they reunited
and when korra was leaving to go fight zaheer- that fuckn music?? what was that supposed to mean then (which brings me to my next point)
3) why did makorra have a music theme that they continued to use even after they broke up?? kataang had a music theme. zutara did not. what am I supposed to think about this??
4) What was the purpose of dedicating almost half an episode to the rocky road of Makorra in Remembrances? If it was just meant to be closure they could have made it a lot shorter and put more emphasis on Korra’s journey or on Varrick’s mover
and on that note why would they feel the need to add that mako hasn’t dated anyone since he and korra broke up??
5) What was the purpose of the Makorra field trip in book 4? Mako didn’t really need to be there technically, it could have been any one of the gazillion friends Korra has. The writers chose him to accompany Korra on one of her most important journeys. And that look he gave her as she went to meet Zaheer- ????
6) This could be put up to interpretation but the generally accepted fact that Mako’s still into her was not resolved?? like at all, they didn’t ever really talk properly about their breakup
And yet they had almost no interaction after “Long Live the Queen.“
Let’s count ‘em out, shall we?
The "I’ll watch over her as she meditates” scene in “The Ultimatum” (which, though people may look at it as romantic, is honestly horribly practical considering Mako and Bolin had their entire family that needed to be relocated and resettled at the time) The hug in “Enter the Void” (of which Mako got one too–and who got the close-up and the music swell? It wasn’t the Korra-Asami hug) The ‘I’m here to talk if you need me’ scene in “Venom of the Red Lotus” (which at that point could have easily been interpreted as a scene between two friends/a supportive and compassionate friend, and which was very in character for Asami as a whole) Asami’s offer to go to the South Pole with Korra in “Korra Alone” (which Korra refused) Korra’s single letter to Asami (which is also ambiguous; you could read it as romantic or you could read it as “who else is she gonna reply to? Her ex-boyfriend, who she’s still awkward with, or Bolin, who bless him, truly cares, but is naive and isn’t really all that serious and besides that is currently working for the woman taking what Korra views as "her job”) Their interactions in “Reunions” (which focused equally on her reunion with Mako and the Wu drama)(four interactions, two of which were directly related to the Wu drama and the other two on Korra’s leave of absence/silence) The tea scene in “Remembrances” (during which Asami said nothing to Korra that Tenzin didn’t echo and that Mako, Tenzin, and Bolin hadn’t said to Korra before) The last minutes of the finale So over the course of the 14 episodes of Book 4, we have a grand total of five interactions between Korra and Asami, only two of which can be nonambiguously interpreted as romantic (the blush in “Reunions,” which honestly I hestitate to count as nonambiguous, but I’ll give it to you, and the finale conversation).
The only member of the core Krew Korra had less interaction this season with was Bolin, with whom she only got one direct coversation the entire season (“Beyond the Wilds”).
Like…say what you want, but that’s very poor relationship development. It’s poor FRIENDSHIP development too (like god, poor Bolin; he was her first friend, too). Bryke dropped the ball on interpersonal relationship development within the Krew this season. Like hell, I expected Korra to remain single and I still think there was a far bigger case for the rebuilding of the Makorra relationship at this point (as presented within canon) than there was for the building of a Korrasami relationship.
peteseeger . tumblr . com/post/109172869648/2-seasons-vs-12-episodes-is-such-a-bullshit
“2 seasons vs 12 episodes” is such a bullshit argument
it doesn’t matter how many episodes there were. what matters is the narrative and plot focus given to developing the relationship.
here are the book 1 episodes that i can definitely state possessed subplots or important storyline beats in building korra and mako’s romantic interest and development:
A Leaf in the Wind The Revelation The Spirit of Competition Out of the Past Skeletons in the Closet Endgame
there is no ambiguity in these examples. a layman could clearly tell from watching these episodes, without the aid of shipping goggles or a shipper’s mindset, that the writing on the wall is “korra and mako will become a couple.”
now, here are the episodes that i can definitely state possessed subplots or important story beats in building korra and a/sami’s romatic interest and development:
The Last Stand
even that i can only really count because it was confirmed outside the narrative. before bryan’s post, the fandom generally considered the final scenes to be romantically ambiguous or open-ended.
substance is everything in storytelling. hitting the beats matters more than any amount of episodes.
to quote appabend it was so subtle it was nonexistent  which is why I say korrasami was a last minute retcon
What Korra and Asami got was BARELY friendship, especially since they had a grand total of five (possibly six) on-screen interactions after “Long Live the Queen.” Pairing them up in the finale made little sense given the utter lack of romantic buildup/relationship development and the just plain lack of interaction in general.
korra blushed at bolins compliment in spirits of competition after she was feeling down and borra sunk   korra while she  felt down blushed at a compliment
mako got a speech about what korra meant to him and how he admired her
as a person  while asami failed to help her and just went youre the avatar we need you while tenzin actually helped her by pointing out how she had grown
Fact remains: Korra and Asami had very little on-screen interaction compared to Korra and just about everyone else, and Korra and Mako got nearly twice the interactions and nearly triple the screentime in Book 4 as Korra and Asami. You’re going to have to try way harder.

long ass rant time.
(Not my show, not my characters, not my choices. This is not me bashing the show. Just trying to put out my thoughts on the series and understanding to a certain degree on why Korra gets so much hate. I don’t blame the characters. I question the creators)
Ten year old me is jumping for joy that the avatar fandom has risen from the ashes and has become so mainstream and widespread. If you would have told me a year ago that the original show would have had such a big rebirth after so long I would not have believed it.
And after so long of not really wanting too watch Korra because teenage me never really wanted the Gaang to have their stories set in stone. I always wanted it to be left open to interpitation. Going into watching Korra I tried my best to pretend I never watched atla and attempted too not make comparisons.
I am now at the last season of it. And having really hard time watching it. The first two season made a pretty good story. That being said, I really am still having a hard time finding ANY characters likeable after binge watching. The humor falls flat when every characters humor is juts harsh sarcasm. Not one of the characters sacrafices anything to help Korra. They are not a team at all. Mako stays a police officer and will not stay loyal even to his family and friends. Bolin does not give a shit about his brother being inprisoned. Every time Korra,Asami, Bolin, and Mako interact they are fighting. They made Bolin so unsympathetic he really isn’t a comedic relief. I don’t understand the apeal of Mako when he has no loyalties. The whole back in fourth love triangle was so over done and over played they had to give him another episode to explain just to try to give him some fans. Meelo is very sexist annoying, and seems to be having no paranting. Varrick did not make sense. For Avatar be so heavy on families..... not one family has siblings that get along or feel any protection for one another.
The only characters I kind of liked were Jinora who seemed to have the power, spirituality, and common sense that a Avatar needs in my opinion. Kai who had an actual growth, personality, and gained honor in the few times he is shown. These two actually saved people more than anyone. Opal who I felt they could have had such had an amazing storyline and Bolin does not deserve. I wish Korra would have gotten closer too General Iroh. And the rest of the Beiphongs except Jr of course. I liked Tenzin but he sure did jack shit.
To top it not one of the characters has any honor. Even the families. It is such a hard thing to grasp when the Gaangs era was so heavy on loyalty, honor and found family.
Even in the fourth season I am having a hard time connecting with the new “team” avatar. They are all so self involved. And all of the villans could have been stopped with one episode if they would have been questioned on why they are so fucking shifty. All of the bad guys were stopped in Atla because they were immediatly called on their shit even when they were manipulators and felt like they were doing the right thing. (cough Jet cough). Why are all the characters so..... stupid?
The good guys never once win a fight. Even when there is around 50 airbenders, a pro earth benderand lava bender, a pro firebending police officer who can shoot lightning, a skilled nonbender and technician, a old skilled waterbending master(daughter of a bloodbending master healer),a master airbender( son of the avatar). Who couldnt defeat and stood aside as the airbending weeb who suddenly is the most powerful man alive because he could read and conveniently did not need any masters. I can go on for hours on depth on this.
I liked the development and the Avatar cycle starting anew. I liked the Spirit world being reconnected to the humans. (I realy did not like all the technology growth to be honest). If it was not immediatly brushed aside, with no issues coming from it as if the avatar has not been dealing with the humans and spirits fighting for 10,000 years but go off I guess.
I really think that the second season should have been the final season. Think of the possibilities if Korra could have had this epic build up like Aang did, traveling and learning with friends, too defeat this unbeatable force. If it took 4 books to a final battle for convergence. We get so much info about the Avatar and Raava in season 2. And then Korra fights the literal embodiment of darkness and evil. She should be so strong and be more in touch with Raava, the spirits, her powers than any other avatar after she reconnects with Raava. Every other villian pales in comparison. Then gets her ass kicked for 2 more seasons by some losers. A little anticlimactic on my side here.
If she really is a reincarnation of Wan then why is it so hard for her to see the good from the bad. Why is she set up to need so much help when she doesnt get it and doesnt learn from it. They really did make her weak and unlikeable. That goes for all the characters. You can’t change my mind on that.
All in all.... Shitty jokes, demands, bad desisions and sarcasm is not a personality. And thats all the personality a lot of these characters got.
I don’t want to go on hating and bashing this show I just want to forget it exsist. And I am not even at the end of it. I am really sad that the found family of the Gaang seemingly fell apart. Tearing apart the point of the ideals of Aang.
I wish they would animate comics and more of Aangs story because thats what people want. Not a live action movie that will pale in comparison to a book or cartoons. Look at Disney and how “amazing” their live actions have been. Actors, money, and new jokes wont make a Movie. A story will. Characters will. People will.
And that story has been told, not continued in the series. I really just wonder if Nickelodian didnt want to listen to them so they just put out shit.
( The whole Korra/Asami thing not even going into the TV series is another story)
Ok I can go on and on. I will finish hyperfixating for now.Tell me what you guys think.
