since I have finally finished all my fics with deadlines attached, here!! is another iteration of the 150 words meme, because I want to and it’s been a little while. featuring 8 actually started fics in progress and 3 unstarted but planned ones, because I love making bad choices.
as usual: send me a number and I’ll write 150 words in that fic. max of three, and if you want to know what these are there’s brief descriptions on my WIP masterlist.
1. “There you are, Jiujiu,” Jin Ling said cheerfully, like Jiang Cheng was late, which he wasn’t.
“Where’s Lan-er-gongzi,” Jiang Cheng said, because if Wei Wuxian was here with the Lan cygnets then Lan Wangji almost certainly was as well, and he’d rather not be surprised.
“Oh,” Jin Ling said, sounding very pleased with himself, “he’s busy. Chief Cultivator stuff, I guess.”
One part of Jiang Cheng’s brain registered relief at not having to deal with Lan Wangji’s thinly veiled hostility. Another part noted that that explained why he wasn’t hovering immediately beside Wei Wuxian. Yet another was vaguely surprised that a small thing like official business would keep him from hovering immediately beside Wei Wuxian at all times.
A very, very small part of him noted that Jin Ling really had turned into a sneaky, conniving little devil. (Slippage)
2. “Song-daozhang,” Xue Yang said, dragging out the vowels. “I just. I just realized. You still have his eyes.”
That hit him like a punch. Or a sword thrust through his chest. He nearly flinched, just managing to stop himself. Xue Yang smiled at him, lopsided.
“You shouldn’t,” he said. “You don’t deserve them. But hey. Least it’s. Least it’s something.”
The midwife, Song Lan could tell, was listening intently; she’d paused in her work. He glared at Xue Yang, willing him to pass out, to shut his mouth.
His face did something strange, suddenly. Crumpled inward on itself. He let out a hiccup of a laugh. “If you’d done a better job,” he said, “his eyes would’ve been the last thing I-”
His eyes rolled up in his head and he went limp. The midwife straightened sharply, moving to check his breath, then looked at Song Lan, who kept his face impassive as though he hadn’t just dug his fingers into the wound that was Xue Yang’s right shoulder.
Enough was enough. (Walking Far From Home)
3. He wasn’t drunk anymore. He sort of wished he still was. Unusual, that - he avoided it, mostly, preferring to stay clear-headed, but right now his head was a little too clear, and it felt like balancing on a string over an abyss.
Xue Yang returned (home) to the yizhuang, looked at the coffin (there was more than one, but only one that mattered), and turned his back on it, something vicious clawing at the inside of his throat like it was trying to get out.
He snapped his fingers. “C’mere,” he said, and Song Lan emerged from the dark and stood in the courtyard, blank black gaze as unseeing as if he’d never stolen Xiao Xingchen’s eyes.
Xue Yang had imagined carving those eyes out of his head and trying to put them back, but he didn’t know that it would work and at least in Song Lan’s head they were somewhere Xue Yang could see them. (naked and breathless)
4. “How’d you know him, anyway?” It was hard, really hard, to just sound curious and not eager, not hungry, not like this entire conversation was getting him wound up all over again.
“Not well,” Xiao Xingchen said. “We - crossed paths.”
“Clearly left an impression,” Xue Yang said. He wanted to reach out and touch Xiao Xingchen’s eyes, push his fingers against the eyelids and say impression, get it? but he still had a cover to keep. Wasn’t ready to drop it yet.  (lie back and let me unlock you)
5. “You sound like Chengmei,” Xiao Xingchen said, with unmistakable fondness that struck all the way to Xue Yang’s bones. Jin Guangyao’s eyebrows rose, barely perceptibly.
“That’s not a comparison I expect,” Jin Guangyao said.
“High praise, though,” Xue Yang said with a toothy grin. “Not many people out there are on my level, right?”
Lan Xichen had that slightly tight smile on that said quite clearly if I thought there was a polite way of telling you to fuck off I would. Xiao Xingchen laughed quietly, ducking his head a little like that would hide it. Jin Guangyao’s eyes on him were briefly very cold, though his dimpled smile didn’t twitch at all.
“No,” he said. “I wouldn’t say there are many people at all who are like you, Chengmei. You’ve always been a very memorable figure.” (Mutual Friends)
6. Xue Yang laughed and pushed himself up to sitting, the flat of the knife’s blade tapping against the side of his leg. “Lianfang-zun,” he said. “Always so unflappable. Must be why your beloved fuqin treasures you so much.”
Jin Guangyao had too good of self control to flinch. That didn’t mean he didn’t want to, or that he didn’t feel a quick stab of anger.
“Mind yourself, Chengmei,” he said levelly.
“Why?” Xue Yang said. “You mind yourself enough for both of us.” (knifeplay + xueyao)
7. “Have you seen my brother,” she said, finally, careful to keep her voice even. A grin spread across Xue Yang’s face, his eyes lighting up, and the hairs on the back of Wen Qing’s neck stood on end.
“Yeah,” he said. “As it happens, I have.”
Wen Qing’s fingers tightened around the orange. “Is he alive?”
Xue Yang laughed, bright and sharp. “Well, no,” he said. “Not really, but you already knew that, didn’t you?”  (fall apart, destroy, release)
8. Zidian crackled and unfurled, lashing across his chest and sending him flying. A few Nie cultivators moved hastily out of the way, but Zidian had already vanished again. But it had been a clean blow - no tingling, no backlash. Breathing hard, Jiang Cheng stared at the Wen cultivator, struggling to get up.
For a moment he saw Wei Wuxian sprawled on the floor of Sword Test Hall, taking blow after blow from a-niang as Wang Lingjiao looked smugly on, and wanted to recoil. But he held his ground. (in our respective ways)
