I know everyone likes to make sly let-em-eat-cake jokes about the Met Gala, but it's really not a bad thing. It's a fundraiser event for the Met, a museum that until very recently, was pay what you want, and still is for all new yorkers. This museum has one of the most expensive collections of art in the world--they NEED the money. Do you have any idea how much it costs to display and preserve their collection? ESPECIALLY the textiles? And instead of taking out of your pocket for ticket prices or even in tax dollars they make celebrities pay for it.
Of course the optimal solution is tax the billionaires and let THEM fund the museum, but since we don't live in that world, let the Met steal the money from the dancing monkeys in the pretty dressies. There are worse things they could do.
