And it was like slow motion
Standing there in my party dress
In red lipstick
With no one to impress
And they're all laughing
And asking me about you
But there was one thing missing (missing, missing)
And that was the moment I knew

A/N: I promise I’ll write the midnights thing
Taylor opened the door excitedly, expecting you to be the one that had knocked, but it was just Emma. She tried to hide her disappointment because now everyone was here but you.
The one she wanted here the most.
“Hi!” Emma grinned, hugging the blonde, “Happy birthday!”
Taylor gave a small smile back, pulling away after the hug went on for an extended period.
The redhead gushed at the blonde’s outfit, “I love your dress,” She said, “Where did you get it?”
Looking down at her black dress, Taylor shuddered at the memory, “Thank you,” She murmured, “I don’t know, Y/N bought it for me.” She remembers reading a note where you had promised to be here.
They retreated back to the rest of the guests and split off into their own conversations.
They said they’d be here.
Taylor’s thoughts all jumbled into one as she stared at the door, waiting for you to burst in with your, ‘baby, I’m right here’ smile. The people at the party saw right through Taylor’s fake smiles and forced laughs, but didn’t bring mention it and tried to cheer her up.
Taylor sat at the head of the table, looking at the cake in front of her before gulping. She looked back up at the door, chest tightening, as tears welled up in her eyes.
Four hours. Four hours had passed since the party started, and you still hadn’t arrived.
She felt stupid, dolling herself up for someone that didn’t even come, that had forgotten to most likely get drunk with their friends at a bar downtown.
Forcing her tears away, Taylor tried to focus on the way her friends sang to her with such pride before cheering loudly as she blew out the twenty-one candles on the cake because what do you do when the one who means the most to you is the one that doesn’t show?
Another glance at the door.
They said they’d be here.
Taylor sniffled and stood abruptly, politely excusing herself. She hurried to the bathroom, trying to seem calm, when she realised her tears wouldn’t be kept at bay any longer.
“Tay?” A familiar voice called out as the bathroom door stayed open.
Selena watched her friend in concern as tears streamed down her face, ruining the make-up she had put on to impress you.
“They said they’d be here,” Taylor said pathetically, shoulders sagging. Selena said nothing, leaning in to hug her best friend.
You said you’d be here.
Where are you?
Taylor had been lying in her bed for a good hour after the party had ended when you called. She frowned and answered the call, jaw clenching at your sigh of relief.
You didn’t get to be relieved that she answered when you ignored her the whole day.
“Taylor?” She could hear the slur in your voice, confirming her suspicions about where you had been all night. “I’m sorry I didn’t make it.”
She wondered, did you remember or did Selena give you a mouthful over the phone after leaving? Probably the latter.
Gulping back her tears, Taylor muttered, “I’m sorry too.”
You should’ve been here.
