9 of my favourite movies
Oh boy, The Mouse is strong in this one...
But yo, bro. A Matter of life and death is seriously SO GOOD! It’s my favorite “old movie”. Needed an anime as well (surprisingly not a Ghibli one) and Your name is such an incredibly unique and powerful story, jeebus...! And throwing in two Swedish titles as well. The music in both Ronja Rövardotter and Resan till Melonia makes my feelings leak. ❤
Thank you @belphegor1982 for tagging me!

Heartstrings
No, it’s not the title of a fic. Sorry to deceive you. But that’s, surprisingly, not far from my point in making this post. I wanna wax a little poetic about music. And how composers disguise their inspiration (a.k.a. sampling) from other composers.
John Williams is egregiously notorious for this, and say that with all the affection in my heart because he’s also incredibly fucking good at it. But a lot of composers are, we just don’t hear about it that often. Johan Goransson created the theme of The Book of Boba Fett by adapting the a theme from the Swedish film/book adaptaion, Ronia, The Robber’s Daughter. And it’s amazing, it’s so fitting. Folks in Sweden recognized it immediately because that movie (and book) are beloved.
But, I’m not going to talk about movies here. I want to talk about video games. Specifically, two of my favorite games ever. Dragon Age: Inquisition and Elden Ring.
Yeah. I know. Don’t judge me.
Here’s the theme that’s been plaguing me for the last year or so:
youtube
The second half, after you’ve *SPOILER* set the Erdtree on fire, buries the city in ash. It’s this version of the theme that has been bothering me, deeply, for nearly a year.
For some reason I recently decided to start playing Dragon Age: Inquisition again. And I was like, “Hey, me, let’s go listen to the Trespasser OST while we’re at it, because it’s my fave.”
And then it fucking hit me like a ton of bricks.
Take a listen to this theme:
youtube
At the 1:47 mark, the song key changes to G# minor, which is the same key as the Leyndell theme. And then at about 2:11, the themes blend. Play them both at the same time at the same volume level and it’s hard to tell them apart.
It’s the same motifs, the same chords, the same lead instrumentation with soaring strings and tremolos and a haunting chorus backing it all up. I’m losing my fucking mind, I talked about this with my sibling recently and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. That’s because these are intensely emotional parts of both games. You’re facing down the motives of your party companion, potentially your lover, who mysteriously vanished at one point earlier in DAI. You’re finally getting answers and you have to face the truth of everything he did to achieve his goals, and why. In ER, you’ve just sacrificed a person who has been accompanying you through most of the game to burn down the world’s sacred, holy tree in an effort to gain access to what--rather, who--is inside said tree. Spoiler alert, it’s the infamous “missing” goddess that created the mess The Lands Between has been in for several thousand years.
You’re very near the end of both stories, the do-or-die battles that determine the fate of the world and everyone in it.
And what better way to captured that ending with a little variation on dies irae.

get to know me(me)
tag 9 people you want to get to know better
tagged by no-one but @wizardofgoodfortune tagged me with another meme I've already done so I'll do this one instead! :3
three ships: dreamling (current fav and here to stay), geraskier, drarry (there are more, but these three are probably what I've read the most fanfic for
first ever ship: oh this is hard. at what age do you start this? is a ship always non-canonical? if not, then probably Ronja and Birk from Ronia the Robber's Daughter. LOL when I was, like, eight maybe? (yes I made up stories of them having adventures in the forest while trying to fall asleep. it involved getting tied up so I guess I was a kinky little shit back then already >_>° *sweats*) if a "ship" is considered non-canon then the next was probably Kamui/Fuma (X-1999) (it was never really a canon relationship right?) followed by Riku/Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
last song: i apologize if you feel something by Bring Me The Horizon - listen I have a lot of Dreamling feels for this song, just don't know yet how to translate it into art or sth, but @moorishflower's Ab instrumento ad corpus made me remember it because it kinda fits and now I listen to it a lot
last movie: Ad Astra - I really liked that movie, love to see one of my teenage idols (Brad Pitt) having aged nicely and doing weird depressive sci-fi (one of my fav genres) <3
currently reading: a lot of dreamling fanfic, my "Marked for Later" list is long... and the Whiddershins (Whyborne & Griffin) series by Jordan L. Hawk
currently consuming: herbal tea
currently craving: sleep, but I hate to sleep at daytime =_=
tagging @moorishflower @landwriter @wordsinhaled and everyone who wants to, I can't think of nine people right now sry

A Ronia the Robber’s daughter sketch from my notebook, I remember I used to watch the anime adaptation all the time as a kid and for an adaptation it seems pretty accurate to the book and movie. I still like to watch it even now. :D I just wish there were more fanfiction for it on ao3.

Bloganuary: My favourite author
#bloganuary #author
Photo by Suzy Hazelwood on Pexels.com I grew up reading books from author Astrid Lindgren. I even did a presentation of her in school once. Books like Ronia the Robber’s Daughter and Pippi Longstocking. The swedish versions. But I have always loved movie versions better. I loved Ronia the Robber’s Daughter. I haven’t actually read the book, our teacher read it out loud in class. The same with…

Hello I would like get to know you uwu Edelweiss, Jasmin and Papyrus pls uwu 💖💖💖
edelweiss ⇢ how’d you think of your url/username? what’s it associated with to you?
I think I just wanted something guild wars -related that wasn't just one of my ocs, and I really love sylvari, so having a lot of sylvari characters is like having a bouquet of them.
jasmine ⇢ do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again?
Potter-series would be the easy answer here because of the reasons everyone knows. Probably another answer would be some children's books, like The Famous Five, Ronia the Robber's Daughter, Peter Pan, that I really loved as a kid but going back to them is like "wow these were really books of their age in some really bad ways"
papyrus ⇢ if you put your ‘on repeat’ playlist on shuffle, what’s the first song that comes up? what do you like about it / associate it with?
Dessa - The Bullpen
It's definitely "girlboss" tm song, and I do like the lyrics and the snark in it a lot
All cloak, no dagger Just smoke and swagger I hope that your battery's charged Cause I found this here ladder Now your ceilings don't matter Check me out, Now I got glass floors

Started watching The Book of Boba Fett.
Like five minutes in I thought I was on drugs because that song...
I grew up reading children's books by Astrid Lindgren (some of you may know her as the author of Pippi Longstocking), and my favourite was Ronia the Robber's Daughter. It was made into a film in 1984 and this song from the end of it, where they celebrate the new robber chieftain, sounds an awful lot like the Boba Fett theme...
Turns out, TBoBF has the same composer as in The Mandalorian, Ludwig Göransson, and he's Swedish. He's born the same year as I am (the same year the Ronia movie came out) and probably grew up with it, just as I did.
Just surprised no one's accused him of plagiarism because dayum, son.

The first time I heard the theme playing in the post credits of the Book of Boba Fett, I felt like I’d sort of heard it before. Going to the official video on YouTube and finding people saying the same thing is gratifying.
So what’s going on? The themes are composed by Ludwig Göransson. He’s Swedish like me. In the eighties, a movie was made based on the book of one of Sweden’s most beloved children’s authors, Astrid Lindgren. This move is Ronja Rövardotter, or Ronia the Robber’s Daughter. This movie has an amazing musical score with some spectacular male choir pieces. All children growing up in Sweden from the eighties until today will have seen it, Göransson included.
If I am to go off the YouTube comment, Göransson has said the music from Ronja Rövardotter was an inspiration and I’m very inclined to believe it.
I want people to know those original songs because they deserve it. Rövarsången and Mattis och Borka sången Take a listen!
(Bonus info is. The lead vocalist is one of my favourite Swedish singers as far as powerful voices go: Tommy Körberg. Famous from the musical Chess among other things)

Apollo and lightning bolt?
Tumblr media
Apollo • What kind of music are you into?
That's such a hard question to answer cause you could make me love nearly all music if you gave something that makes my brain and heart go brrrrrrr
Atm I listen to alternative/indie stuff, some Rock, some R&B/Hip-Hop and pop on occasion, I love jazz and funk but haven't found my niche there yet, blues influences always get me immediately and if there's a sick beat or some saxophone/trumpet im game (rant stopped for now lol but I could go on)
Lightning Bolt • What are your top three favorite movies?
I'm counting Lotr as one film, Pride & Prejudice (2005), and...maybe Ronia, the Robber's Daughter? Chocolat? I don't know, this really stumped me rn...i will probably wake up tomorrow and know a good third option lmao
