Ever since seeing @claperpip Rise/Buzzfeed Unsolved art I have suffered a special kind of brainrot where I have now mentally written a story about the Ghoul Boys going to New York to investigate the mysterious "Kappa's of New York".

Since @princesa-pens-and-pizza supports me in my madness, have a little sneak peak of something that might later either be chapter 2 or just a little interlude (since I want to keep the story turtles pov only)

The last tunes of the opening melody fade away and we see Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej sitting at their iconic desk in the Buzzfeed Unsolved headquarters. 

"Greetings." Ryan opens and leans forward a little bit. "Today on Buzzfeed Unsolved we'll dive into the mystery of the hundreds of sightings of mutants that seem to terrorize New York City and into the question: Are they real?" 

The camera focuses on Shane to show his infamous headshake, but instead we see him lean back with crossed arms. He gives us a high-pitched and considering "Hmmmm."

"Oh, I'm surprised!" 

"Well, you know I call bullshit on ghosts! Spectral Spooks? Get outta here with that shit! But mutations…Wait!" He leans over, trying to sneak a peek at Ryan's notes, who quickly guards them with an arm. "We are talking about mutations right? Two headed cows and cryptids and all that. Not about X-Men kinda stuff right?" He leans back and says with the most deadpan tone to ever deadpan: "That's a movie, Ryan." 

"Are you seriously insinuating that I don't know that X-Men is a movie?" 

"Weeeeeeeeell…" 

"And no! We are not talking X-Men. Although some of these creatures that have been sighted are strangely humanoid." 

"Oh boy." 

"Let's just get into it."

"Giant turtles?" 

"Yes. Four of them. Maybe more. Reports vary." 

Shane sighs and smirks a little. "Well, at least this time you won't have to be so scared, yeah? Giant turtles? What are they gonna do? Chase us with 1 mph?"

"That's where you are wrong!" Ryan jabs his finger at the papers spread over the table. "These turtles are not just big, they are fast and apparently they can fight! They have weapons!" 

"How do they hold them?" Shane presses his fingers together and tries to pick something up without moving them apart. He looks like a challenged dolphin. "Don't they have fins? How does that work?" 

"Listen, I know it sounds crazy, but there is actually a video of them fighting in a fish and ladder market." He fishes his phone out from under the desk. "We can't show the footage for legal reasons, but I'm gonna show you right now." 

They both stare at Ryan's tiny screen. Ryan is obviously very excited about what he is seeing and is eagerly awaiting Shane's reaction. 

Shane watches the video with lazer sharp focus, a thoughtful frown on his face. The viewers are actually scooting to the edge of their seats. Is he seeing something that actually convinces him? Could giant, fighting turtles be real? 

"That's 'shopped to high heaven." 

Everyone deflates. Especially Ryan. 

"How could anyone have photoshopped this? Don't you see the ladders and the fish flying around?" 

Shane shrugs, unconcerned. "Okay, so it's some dudes in a cosplay doing that RPG thing or something." 

"Who are they cosplaying?" 

"Look Ryan! I'm not up to date with anime and all that stuff. We'll go to New York right? When we find them, we can ask them." 

"Or we find them and they'll karate chop us into an early grave. Or steal our souls! One theory is, that they are Kappa's, those japanese folklore yokai." 

"Japanese demons right in New York City?" Shane whistles and gives the camera a little wink. "Ah. What a town."

Hot dang! This trailer showing more artwork from the upcoming Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant miniseries has gotten me even more hyped to see what Iman Vellani & Sabir Pirzada do with the character as a inhuman/mutant hybrid! And it confirms my previous statement that the accusation from some fans that they’re “erasing Kamala’s culture & ethnicity” are bullcrap since not only does Kamala look like her normal self in he artwork present (her nose actually looks correct here in contrast to the Hellfire Gala preview pages where she’s resurrected; seriously, her nose looks incredibly off there…) but we get several apperances of her supporting cast like Bruno, her Ammi & Abu, and older brother Amir and his wife Tyesha & baby son Malik as well!

Like, as long as the actual Ms. Marvel solo-titles are contained to be written by Muslim authors, I feel a lot more confident less worried about the current direction of Kamala’s character like a lot of other fans are.

I just wish that Vellani & Pirzada were writing an ongoing for Kamala instead of a 4-issue miniseries, since for whatever reason Marvel has not let Kamala have an ongoing since March of 2021 when Saladin Ahmed’s Magnificent Ms. Marvel run wrapped up at Issue #18 (even though Kamala’s solo-ongoing titles lasted for a total of 75-issues under G. Willow Wilson & Saladin Ahmed’s pens). While the miniseries released in-between Magnificent and Kamala’s fridging in Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #26 have been very solid like Samira Ahmed’s Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit, I’m honestly baffled as to why Marvel hasn’t given Kamala another ongoing for quite awhile despite her massive success and popularity both in and outside of comics (she not only had a successful MCU Disney+ series, but was also the main star in the Marvel’s Avengers video game).

So if the Vellani & Pirzada penned Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant miniseries is successful, can we please finally have a new Ms. Marvel ongoing? It’s seriously long overdue for Kamala!
