365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
Team Supplemental - The New Warriors
The team of heroes known as The New Warriors came to be through happenstance. Six young heroes were all present when the intergalactic super villain, Terrax the Tamer, attacked downtown Manhattan. Night Thrasher, Namorita, Marvel Boy, Firestar, Nova and Speedball ended up pooling their forces so to defeat the villain. In the aftermath, the group decided they worked quite well together and chose to continue on as a team. They called themselves The New Warriors.
The squad would go on to have many adventures and battled a host of different villains. They endured both triumph and tragedy, yet ultimately it was philosophical differences that led to their disbanding. Night Thrasher and new member, Rage, both wanted to focus efforts on street level crime and defending traditionally underserved neighborhoods; whereas Nova and Marvel Boy (now calling himself ‘Justice’) felt obligated to tend to the threats posed by super villains and cosmic menaces. In the end they could not come to an agreement and parted ways.
A new version of the team was created some time later, sponsored by a television studio who wanted to film their exploits as part of a hit reality show. Putting caution to the side in seeking higher ratings, this team foolishly took on a group of villains near a school in suburban Connecticut. It resulted in a terrible tragedy were most of the team and scores of civilians lost their lives. The incident would ultimately spark the first superhero civil war and the name ‘New Warriors’ became synonymous with the danger posed by super powered vigilantes operating unchecked.
The surviving members of the team would eventually create an updated version to the team so to rehabilitate the team's name and offer guidance and mentorship to the younger generation of costumed heroes.
The New Warriors first appeared in the pages of Mighty Thor Vol. 1 #4 (1989).

A former New Warrior appears on this week’s comic!
Firestar is the main character in X-Men Annual comic written by Steve Foxe. Also, Justice appears in a small flashback where he and Firestar defeated Whirlwind before they joined the Avengers.
Here, in the annual, Firestar fights Whirlwind on her 2nd encounter (and a rematch).
(The 2nd image of Firestar and Justice holding the defeated Whirlwind is a close-up of the 1st image)
