I'm on the like, on the one hand I don't like states and shit, don't trust government etc, but on the other hand someone's gonna wind up organising things and I dunno how to stop these people from forming a government without hampering their useful organisation functions. yeah izzy going to the crown for help doesn’t actually equal “izzy loves the british navy izzy is a monarchist” etc etc but like. this show establishes SO HARD that the british are unambiguously The Bad Guys (and i love this abt ofmd, morality is complicated and messy except when it comes to portraying the military force that is actively colonizing the world during the events of this show). and like i’ve talked abt how in ofmd i don’t think piracy in general is Perfect Queer Utopia BUT the pirates in ofmd ARE enemies of the british navy. the show violently punishes people for aiding or being colonizers so idk why we'd expect izzy to be an exception to that.

if there was like some other rival pirate captain that was the enemy of the protagonists in ofmd, going to the british to lay a trap for the protagonists is how the story would show that this rival pirate is Really Bad. for the pirates in ofmd, not making deals with the british is most likely an unspoken code, the one point of honor among sea thieves (and that’s not even mentioning the modern comparison of izzy essentially calling the cops on a ship full of people of color).

like sure we can psychoanalyze izzy as if he were a real person and try to figure out his thoughts and motivations for why he went to the british but like it doesn't matter if this was izzy's personal "act of grace" desperation moment it doesn't matter if izzy didn't mean for ed to still be on the boat none of that matters!! what matters in ofmd is Did You Help Colonizers In Any Way and the answer to that question is yes!!! yeah ed and stede sign the act of grace but 1. they only had to bc izzy brought the british to their doorstep and 2. the only thing they did was get their new clothes and immediately leave. like if anything they hurt the british by taking their free stuff and running and also by making them all look stupid by being like "we got BLACKBEARD to renounce piracy!!" and then he literally escaped in less than 12 hours
