Let's talk about the Avengers Assemble series.

I think the only reason it couldn't get a season 6 was because it was giving fans all the things the MCU couldn't/didn't. And filmmakers didn't like that. Seriously:

- It had a lot more of Falcon being an awesome dude (even had Falcon's mom bring them cookies on his first day)

- It had much more focus on Hawkeye and his cool sass and cool archery. He invented new arrows regularly.

- It had Stony. Lots of it. Absolutely made up for the near-complete lack of Stucky (because the movies already have that)

- Hawkeye being Stony shipper #1

- It had Black Widow being much better than in the movies (no sexist/objectifying portrayal of her)

- It actually explored the daily lives of the Avengers. Thor and Hulk fighting over peanut butter. Hawkeye enjoying said peanut butter while watching them fight. Steve and Tony doing training together. Steve and Tony talking about stuff. Lots of stuff.

- Tony used to pretend to be Captain America as a kid. There were pictures. There's a scene where Steve lends his shield to Tony during practice to see what he does with it.

- Hulk collects glass figurines in this universe. And keeps his room squeaky clean. And has a titanium blanket. Bruce is still a fucking genius.

- There were villains who haven't even been in the MCU yet.

- It ended its version of Civil War on a better note. Aka Steve and Tony team up for the bigger fight instead of acting like toddlers.

- Defeating Thanos was much easier here.

- It explored Steve's past and actually showed a more human side of him.

- It showed Steve painting portraits of all his teammates (aww) and also getting frustrated when his paintings don't turn out right (which is accurate and a much needed thing to show)

- It had him staying in the present (even after a time-space glitch caused Peggy and Howard to end up in the 21st century). Not that Steve didn't want to go back with her, he just chose the more sensible option.

- There were better jokes.

- All of them were attractive, even in animation. (I fell in love with AA!Steve first and AA!Clint is the reason I had a crush on the archer for a while)

- It did underrated characters justice.

- It was going great (really, 13 stars out of 10)

But that's why they shut it down.

Because too good wasn't okay for them.

Duke finds SH and PS asleep - 09/05/2022

Figured I might as well share one of the softer things I've written lately. Sir Handel and Peter Sam take a nap. Some vague human au.

Duke had been working with Peter Sam all morning. Now, Duke needed his help with yet another task around the railway, but Peter Sam had disappeared around lunchtime. None of the others knew where he had gone.

He knocked on the door to Peter Sam’s bedroom. “Stuart? Peter Sam? Are you in there?” He asked. “We still have a few things we need to pick up and drop off a ways down the line, if you could help with that.” Duke heard nothing from inside the room. “Peter Sam?” Duke slowly opened the door and peeked in. Peter Sam was nowhere to be found.

Duke was stumped, but only for a second. He glanced a short ways down the hall at the door to Sir Handel’s room. Surely he would know where Peter Sam had gone.

So, he knocked on his door instead. “Falcon? Sir Handel? Do you know where Stuart’s gone? I can’t find him anywhere.” There was no response this time either, but that wasn’t unusual. Sir Handel preferred to be alone in his room instead of out in the common area, and he didn’t like to be bothered. He usually ignored any attempts to talk to him. “Sir Handel?” Duke said again, not caring for Sir Handel’s usual attitude.

Duke cracked open his door too, and he quickly forgot his irritation as he found the answer to his question. On the bed snuggled up close to each other were Sir Handel and Peter Sam, both sound asleep. Neither of them had heard Duke knock, and both were softly snoring away, not a care in the world, with Peter Sam’s head gently rising and falling with Sir Handel’s chest as he breathed.

Duke’s expression softened, and he smiled as he watched his boys. They seemed so much closer than he remembered them being when they were younger. But then again, they had been through an awful lot with only each other to lean on.

Backing away, Duke quietly closed the door. “You two get some rest,” he whispered, “It looks like you need it.”

He ended up getting Rusty’s help with the work that day, at least until his boys woke up.

“Wasn’t Peter Sam supposed to help with this?” Rusty asked Duke.

“He was, yes. But I thought it would be best to get your help instead. Let him rest a bit. He’s been working himself awfully hard lately.”

“Oh. Did you find him, then?”

Duke laughed and then lowered his voice, “Yes, and all snuggled up with Falcon, if you can believe it!”

Rusty chuckled, “I can. Those two are quite close.”

An hour or so later, Peter Sam and Sir Handel reemerged, Peter Sam rubbing the sleep from his eyes, and Sir Handel trying in vain to tame his horrible bed-head. To their surprise, they found Duke at the table, reading the newspaper.

“Sleep well, you two?” He asked, not even looking up from his reading.

Sir Handel spluttered, and Peter Sam blushed. They were both unsure how to answer and unaware that Duke knew about their little nap break.

Duke looked up to properly address them. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to embarrass you. I just went looking for Stuart today so we could finish up our work, and I happened to find you two. I thought it was best to let you sleep,” he explained. “Besides, I think it’s rather sweet.” He chuckled and went back to the paper.

After a few seconds of silence, Sir Handel huffed, “Thanks, Granpuff,” and he and Peter Sam set to work making what was either a late lunch or an early supper.

Duke couldn’t help but smile to himself as he listened to the two of them arguing over whether or not it was okay for Sir Handel to put an empty jar of peanut butter back into the refrigerator without telling anyone.

They were his boys alright.

Movies!

Movie of the year (which, coincidentally, actually came out in 2022!)

Everything, Everywhere All at Once (2022)

this masterpiece of a movie is easily the best thing I have seen this year. It is also the best movie I have ever seen in my life, it has everything. It is crazy, it is dramatic and emotional, it will make you feel existential dread and love for humanity and the little things. It is beautiful and incredible and unlike anything I have ever seen. It is not for everyone (but when true art ever is?), but I believe everyone who hasn't seen it should give it a chance, because if this movie is for you, it will be the best film you have seen, maybe ever.

Honourable mentions of other amazing movies, in no particular order:

Don't Look Up (2021)

Beautiful blend of caricature and realism, I would not be surprised if all the ****s**t that happend in the story would actually happen in life. Comedy that is actually a tragedy, and I love it.

Sound of Metal (2019)

A technical wonder, the 'Sound' in the title is completely justified. Amazing movie with a touching story and a perspective on deafness and deaf communities.

Supermario Brothers (1993)

If not for the Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, this would be my movie of the year. Either people didn't have a sense of humour in 93, or they had very high expectations for a first video game adaptation movie. This movie is comedic gold. Every other comedy can only dream of getting even close to this level of humour and absurdity. Great movie, everyone who tells you otherwise is wrong, go watch it.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)

This movie has Tom Hanks singing lullaby songs for a children's evening show, and this perfectly explains the incredible coziness, fluffiness and comfort this movie provides. And the best thing is that it's not an overly happy movie - dealing with grief, death and other complex emotions is the heart of the story. This movie is not afraid to show that a rainbow can appear only after the rain, and it is beautiful in providing comfort for dealing with that rain.

Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)

Good roadtrip movie about male friendship and perspective of a young person with Down syndrome

Devil Wears Prada (2006)

A cautionary tale about managing personal relationships and career boost.

Night Watch (Ночной дозор) 2004

A good, very atmospheric dark russian-urban fantasy adventure movie.

Series!

Series of the year

Red vs Blue (2003-2019) (up to season 17)

I found this gem at a perfect time - a month before finishing university, and this series has been a lifesaver for me. This series has hit the golden comedy mark of Supermario Bros, and Also hit the mark for creating a great cast of characters. The comedy, the irony, the lovable idiots and their tanks, the Soundtrack, and the drama of RE- and Chorus seasons make a perfect blend for a wonderful show. Michael J Caboose is a national treasure and should be protected at all costs. Trocadero songs live rent free in my playlist.

Honourable mentions:

Resident Alien (2021-_)

Good comedy and an exploration of human emotions, relationships, familiar bonds through the eyes of an alien, played by Alan Tudyk. Has the best female-friendship I have seen in a series.

Cowboy Bebop (1998)

Never heard of this series up untill this year and OH BOY was I in for a ride. I'm not a huge anime fan, but this is certainly my favourite. The style, the music, the characters with troubled, yet unknown past, everything here is perfect. Absolutely in love with this series.

Firefly (2002-2003)

Space western AND Alan Tudyk? That's a recipe for a series I would definitely love, and I did. Awesome series.

(I don't know what's the deal with fun blond pilot man and a badass dark-skinned woman with beautiful curls combo is, but I LOVE it)

Games!

Game of the year:

Death Stranding (2019)

No other game has ever made Walking it's main mechanic. I loved the gameplay of this game So. Much. This game perfectly captures all the struggle, effort and perseverance required in real hiking, as well as the importance of human connection on the trail. I have spent 120 hours in the game before finishing the main story just enjoying deliveries, getting all my new homies on the network and rebuilding roads. I absolutely will come back to platinum that last trophy, but for now I have been enjoying the gameplay to it's fullest.

The story was sort of okay, I don't dig the Kojima writing. For all of his ambitions and genius as a game designer, I think writing is his downfall. The spectacle and the music in the game is another level though.

Bugsnax (2020)

A very weird and very fun game! Developers have made quite an effort to make all the different bugsnax fit into an entire ecosystem, and the passion for ecology and entomology shows. VAs clearly had a lot of fun voicing all the different snax.

Subnautica (2018)

Same as Bugsnax, this game has passion over marine biology written all over it and I LOVE that. Designs of all the creatures are very unique and fun. As a person with all kinds of underwater/depths/wrecks fears, this was quite a trip for me at the beginning, though I have become familiar with the game, and after maybe 10 hours it didn't scare me anymore. Sadly, the game is buggy and not very well optimised, and the survival&grind for materials aspects had me quitting the game.

Horizon Forbidden West (2022)

The only release of this year I have played, a sequel to my very beloved universe, and it was...good. The new tribes are breathtaking, the OST of this game is amazing!!!, and all the moments with Erend are precious, but I didn't like the overall story and the direction it's going for the third game. First game had a much stronger writing in my opinion. OST and gameplay however, had been masterfully upgraded to a next level. The poseidon level is a highlight which deserves it's own savefile so you can replay that bit.

I'm so glad Erend is in the sequel, but they did him dirty( Best husband deserved much better

Risk of Rain 2 (2019)

A great game I should spend more time in.

Devil May Cry 5 (2019)

Last year I have fallen into the DMC dumpster fire and I haven't been able to get out ever since. I'm not very good at the game, but I love it. Someday I will get to best doggo Cerberus stage in the Bloody Palace.

A/N: Fluffcember Day 10! Double digits! Since yesterday’s was on the longer side, here’s a little shorty for today! Love me some Falcon/Cap Sam!! Enjoy!

“Okay, we’ve got Sarah, AJ, Cass, you, and me, is Bucky coming? I can whip up a stocking for him if- Sam!” you said, noticing your boyfriend elbow-deep in the Christmas Tree-shaped Reeses.

“What?” he asked, mouth full of chocolate peanut butter goodness.

“Those are for the stockings! And you didn’t answer me about Bucky.” You put your

hands on your hips. This was your first time hosting Christmas and you wanted everything to be perfect.

“There’s plenty left for the stockings,” Sam said, rising from his seat on the couch and making his way over to you. “Why so tense, babe? It’s just Sarah and the boys, they love you.”

His hands landed on your shoulders and he rubbed at some of the knots forming in your shoulders. You groaned, head tilting forward. 

“I know, I know.”

His lips landed on the crook where your neck and shoulder met, tickling your skin with

his mustache. You giggled and squirmed away but his grip was firm on your hips. “I bet I can think of something to help you relax.” 

“Sam! I’m not done with the stockings yet,” you giggled. 

“I’ll have Red Wing hang ‘em,” he dismissed, the robotic drone beeping from his charging station. Sam planted warm kisses up your neck, ending at the spot under your ear that made your knees weak. You leaned back against him; one more move and you’d be putty in his hands. 

His hands trailed up from your hips under the hem of your shirt, tracing delicate but fiery trails to your breasts. He groaned when he realized you weren’t wearing a bra and your nipples hardened instantly. 

“Fine. Bedroom, now,” you insisted, grabbing a fistful of his shirt and dragging him down the hall to your bedroom.

The stockings would just have to wait.
