Netflix productions usually are all-premise-no-ending but somehow most of their South Korean movies are very plot-dense, to the point of being better served as series instead of movies.
The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure (Korean: 해적: 도깨비 깃발; Hanja: 海賊: 도깨비 旗발; RR: Haejeok: Dokkaebi Gitbal; lit. The Pirates: Goblin Flag) is a 2022 South Korean period adventure film directed by Kim Jeong-hoon and starring Kang Ha-neul and Han Hyo-joo.

My post ‘cute fops for Stede Bonnet fans’ https://cottoncandiescupcakes.tumblr.com/post/681541201692917760/as-a-fop-expert-here-are-some-cute-fops-for was such a success I offer you more good( and not so good this time ) fops! :)
The Scarlet Pimpernel - Brave gentleman pretends to be a silly fop to save aristocrats from the guillotine. A rare heroic fop! This is a must-see for it’s new take on foppery.
Pride and Prejudice - by Jane Austen, Mr. Bingley is Mr. Darcy’s sweet,  innocent foppish friend who stands in stark contrast to him. Pure cinnamonroll.
Pirates of the Caribbean - Has a TON of fops, most noticeable evil tiny fop Lord Beckett, dreamy navy Commodore Norrington and Elizabeth’s sweet derpy father the Governor. Wigs reign freely up in here.
Downton Abbey - evil/misunderstood gay valet Thomas Barrow, who has the reddest lips I’ve ever seen, and pretty footman Jimmy are a more dandy or victorian take on fops.
Barry Lyndon by Stanley Kubrick - An aesthetic movie featuring foppish characters, beautiful ladies and a wonderful sumptious rococo look. Every scene is a painting.
Guy of Gisborne from Robin Hood BBC - Richard Armitage as vain evil henchman who wears eyeliner and suffers. Not sure if he’s not too rugged to be a fop but he’s just really attractive and the people must know.
Labyrinth - David Bowie as the Goblin King. This is a stunningly beautiful glam fantasy film starring David Bowie as the prettiest goblin that ever lived. Fans of Thranduil from the Hobbit will love this character.
Harry Potter - Lucius Malfoy, I posted about Gilderoy Lockhart in my last post but forgot all about this other evil foppish wizard, Death Eater Lucius and his perfect hair deserve to be here too!
Please add more suggestions if you have any.

About Wyll and his horns
Let's say I was writing a part of my Tav's story with Wyll directly connected to the dialogue he has during the tiefling party, and while struggling with this bit, I've realized there's quite a few misconceptions floating around. I felt compelled to add information to the table that might clear them, so here we go.
First, what exactly happens to Wyll when he disobeys Mizora in act one? Well, he doesn't get turned into a devil, he certainly doesn't get turned into a tiefling, he's not a half fiend, not a demon, none of that. Wyll stays human, but he has horns and red eyes (and other features we can't see on his model as of now).
Tumblr media
(Everyone has their race listed, Wyll's remains "Human")
This is because when a warlock fails to uphold some part of their contract they can suffer a certain number of consequences, Wylls is “The character grows horns, a tail, or some other devilish features that can't be removed by any means short of divine intervention. As long as these marks persist the character detects as a fiend when subjected to Detect Evil and Good spells or similar magic.” ( from Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, page 214)
Tumblr media
And I’ve come across some people that think it wasn’t so bad of a punishment, that he was being racist towards the tieflings, or just not being justified in being upset after having his body forcibly changed against his will. I think they are missunderstanding just how insidious Mizora’s actions were, and here I just want to give some context to maybe bring a better understanding to the situation. Your conclusions are up to you.
Gonna start by using a not exact analogy, but I think it’s going to make the explanation easier. Stick with me for a minute.
Remember Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean? He had a branded “P” on his arm that marked him as a pirate. A murderer, robber, criminal, etc. in the eyes of the society he was a part of. What did Jack do to earn the branding? (if you don’t know this I suggest you look up the “people aren’t cargo mate” scene) He refused to transport slaves and later freed them, and Beckett had him marked as punishment.
Tumblr media
Then, in the first movie, he saves Elizabeth, a woman he didn’t know, from drowning. Right after however, when Norrington sees he has a branded “P”, he’s like “alright, off to jail with you, and then hanging”, no other option crosses his mind. Again, Jack doesn’t know Elizabeth, isn’t indicated to think he is going to be rewarded for helping her, he just sees a drowning person, sees that no one else is going to help, and chooses to save them. That is a pretty selfless/good aligned thing to do, for no other reason that he was the one able to do it, yet the branding in his arm overrides any good action he could ever do, marking him as a criminal for execution and no further thought.
In a way, that’s what Mizora did to Wyll; she forever visibly branded him as someone that has made deals with devils, and that in the world of DnD is a VERY BAD THING. Personally I really like the mod that gives him more devilish features, but at the same time I think there was something clever about choosing to leave him looking more human. He can’t be confused with a tiefling, he doesn’t have the ears, the claws, the tail, all those features that characterize them. He looks kind of uncanny, and that would be like a red flag for anyone in that world. (Beyond the already existing hate for tieflings that I’m not gonna tackle on here because it’s a complicated thing that deserves its own post). And Wyll wants to do good, he wants to help people, to be a positive force in the world so, so badly. This dude got abducted by a nautiloid, got tadpole’d, and the first thing he did right after that was come across the Tiefling refugees and be like “Oh you need help? No worries let me teach you self defense. Oh you being attacked by goblins? Let me blast them real quick”. His way of saying fuck you to all the awful things that have happened to him is being aggressively good and kind. Mizora knows this very well, wants to see him suffer for her amusement, wants to remind him he can't escape her claws, so her choice of punishment was to forever taint his future interactions with mistrust and suspicion. Some people can go real fast from “oh thank God they saved me” to “oh no, are they gonna rob me, are they trying to trick me, are they in cahoots with the ones that attacked me first?” just because of outward appearances. Especially in DnD world. And that deserves its own conversation, but we're focusing on Wyll here.
(Mizora, when I catch you Mizora)
“Well, maybe he shouldn’t have made a deal in the first plac- - “ He was seventeen, alone, preyed upon by Mizora and put in an impossible situation. Please PAY ATTENTION to the story you’re witnesing.
Anyway.
About the tieflings. I know it’s easy to think his words can be derisive towards them, but it’s less about the horns and more about his body being changed against his will. Imagine instead that he got half his face burned, or something that disfigured him. I think his feelings at the moment were closer to that, and yeah they are pretty insensitive words to say to someone with a similar condition (horns or disfiguration), but when feelings are fresh and raw like that it’s easy to say insensitive things. Not saying it was ok for him to say those things, but ther was no malice in his words. I’ve also seen some people share that they think Mizora wanted to change him more to make him unrecognizable to his original self, the Wyll Ravenguard kid, and I think there is some truth to that too. She wants to make sure that Wyll remembers that he belongs to her, there's no question to that.
(MIZORA, WHEN I CATCH YOU MIZORA)
Whether the Tieflings refugees would feel unsettled by Wyll or not? Yes. In a way, they would. From reasons aside from the ones I explained above, remember that these specific tieflings come from Elturel. If you didn’t pass the History check or don’t remember, Elturel is a city that was literally ripped from the land and dragged to Avernus, First layer of hell (it left a hole on the ground and everything) because their mayor made a deal with the Archdevil Zariel some decades back in the timeline. He sold the souls of all its citizens and the city itself.
Tumblr media
This was probably one of the worst times of their lives. Some even got captured and forced to participate in the blood War, like Dammon as a mechanic. And after Elturel got returned to the surface, the tieflings lost their homes because they reminded the other citizens of the literal Hell they’d just gone through, and they kicked them out. And remember, they met and saw Wyll as a human, and then saw him with horns. It’s not unreasonable to think that by looking at him they would be reminded of all the events that led them to the awful situation they’re in. Because of someone that was making deals with devils, just like Wyll. Even if his situation is completely different. And Wyll knows that, that’s why he tells you the tieflings are unsettled by him and chooses to stay away during the party.
It was never just about the horns.
And I know Wyll calls himself a devil but I think it’s because it’s the closest thing he looks as; devils are a whole different race with their own intricacies, although humans can be turned into devils ONCE their souls go to Avernus and they start climbing the power hierarchy there (Mizora and Raphael are cambions/ half-devils btw, which is a different thing,  there are plenty of videos exploring those details more in depth).
Do I think Larian should have made some of this information clearer/easier to access? Maybe? but to be fair, it's a game focused and dedicated to a crowd that was already somewhat familiar with the source material, that blew up waay out of what they originally expected to reach. Hopefully they’ll add some clarifications like they did to other quests.
Anyway these are my two cents to the conversation, have a nice day, and don't hesitate to add your two cents if you feel like it!

✧.*Are You Listening?*.✧
~Ehehehe the brain maggots won and I can’t say I’m upset by it (^⩌^). I’ve binged this show enough times to be put into all kinds of moods by these men, so I might as well write out my feelings. This is set right after S1 Ep. 7, so if you haven’t watched up to there, expect some spoilers! For anyone else who has pirate-based thought goblins, I hope you Enjoy!~
Lee: Edward
Ler: Stede
Summary: Stede goes on a small rant about what happened on their latest adventure, though Edward isn’t fully listening. When he notices this, he calls the man out, but is met with a rather fascinating reaction.
Warnings: mild Our Flag Means Death spoilers! This is a tickle fic, so if you don’t like that, scroll away!!
Tumblr media
Bobbing with the current, the Revenge drifted peacefully through the sea. Most of the crew was on-deck, chatting and messing around in their moment of peace. However, in the captain’s quarters, two men relaxed, one info-dumping while the other thumbed through random numbers of Stede’s vast collection of novels.
“And did you see that bird’s nest? They had to be Snowy Plovers, no question. Oh, I wish Lucius had brought his sketching journal.”  Stede sighed dreamily, slowly pacing around the room as he spoke.
Ed hummed, not looking up from the copy of Hansel and Grettle. Stede had allowed him to browse whatever he wanted in the library, though he rarely read anything cover-to-cover. The blonde man continued, not yet noticing his companion’s lack of attention.
“There were so many interesting creatures on that island! I mean, the orange was the real treasure in it all, but I do so enjoy exploring nature when we travel.” Turning on his heel, he spun to face the bearded man once again. “What do you think, Ed?”
“Uh-huh, yeah. Good, uh, land and shit,” Edward half-heartedly replied, flipping a few more pages into the book. That’s when Stede finally noticed that he wasn’t really listening.
“Edward!” The pirate jolted, shutting the book and actually meeting Stede’s eyes. “You weren’t even listening to me, were you?” Stede huffed, crossing his arms with an almost adorable pout.
“Uh…kinda? I mean, I heard the bit about the birds…” Ed mumbled most of his response, looking away. Yeah, he’d only heard a few words of the other man’s spiel. “Fuckin’, uh…book was distracting.”
With a huff, Stede sat down beside him, picking up the book. “I’m glad you’re interested in literature, but I was talking. It’s a bit rude to ignore people, isn’t it?” While he was a bit annoyed, Stede’s tone was a joking one. He even poked the man’s ribs in a playful manner, though he hadn’t expected Ed’s flinch.
“Damn, did I hurt you?” Stede sounded worried, a profanity even slipping in. He was more panicked than a normal friend should’ve been, though neither commented on it.
“No, didn’t hurt. Takes more than a fuckin’ finger to hurt me.” Ed swatted Stede’s hand away, his beard hiding the very slight blush on his cheeks. He hadn’t felt a touch like that since…well, it’d certainly been a while. “Just felt…I dunno, fuckin’ weird.”
“Weird?” Stede spoke softly, his worry melding into confusion. What could possibly feel weird to Blackbeard? He’d only lightly poked the man, and his ribs aren’t…oh. Oh. It took everything Stede had to keep a straight face as he said his next words.
“Might your ribs be a bit sensitive, Ed?”
Edward nearly did a double-take at the words and his tone, snapping his head in the other man’s direction. “Sensitive? I’m…I’m fuckin’ Blackbeard. Sensitivity doesn’t apply to me.”
Stede rolled his eyes. Yeah right… Stifling a smirk, the blonde slowly slid his hand towards Ed’s side. Before he could do anything, though, a rough hand snatched his wrist. Edward’s eyes met his, full of some unreadable emotion.
“Don’t. Don’t you fuckin’ dare, Bonnet.” His tone was gruff and dark, though the emotion in his eyes gained some depth. It was almost…giddy? The word felt foreign when describing Ed, though it fit to a tee.
“Hmmm…I think I fucking do.” Using his other hand, he squeezed Edward’s side. The feeling was such a shock that a damned giggle left the dread pirate’s mouth, his arms moving to clamp to his sides.
That sound made Stede’s stomach fill with a strange fluttering feeling—one he often felt around Edward. He decided to pursue it, scooting closer and wiggling his fingers into Ed’s stomach.
The feeling wasn’t that intense through his layers of clothing, but it definitely still tickled. Biting his lip, Ed squirmed, trying to shove at Stede’s hands while still protecting himself. It should be noted, however, that he didn’t put up much of a real fight.
“My, Edward. I think someone’s a bit ticklish…” Stede chuckled, trying to slip his fingers under Ed’s arms. He’d had a small taste of the other man’s laughter, and had become hooked, He had to hear more. “I think it’d feel a bit nicer if you let out that laughter, Ed. Don’t you?”
When the eccentric man managed to wedge his fingers up to Ed’s ribs, the pirate knew he was done for. The dam broke, surprisingly bright giggles filling the quarters. They were still gruff, of course—still, the happy air was hard to ignore.
“Oh dear. I think someone’s got a case of the giggles~” Stede cooed, one hand wiggling on the man’s ribs as the other poked and spidered on his belly. Was he pushing his luck? Oh, absolutely. It was, however, well worth it to see Ed’s silly smile.
“F-fuhuhuck- Stehehede! Fuhuck ohohoff!” Twisting and wriggling around, Ed hid his face in his shoulder. The bearded man’s heavy boots skidded on the wooden floor, leaving small scuffs. Stede would deal with that later.
The feeling was…well, it wasn’t awful for Edward. He would never let the crew see him like that, of course; he had a reputation to maintain. With Stede, however, it felt nice to laugh. To let a few of his walls down without the fear of the mental rubble coming back to crush him. He wasn’t going to admit any of that, but it was true: his blush, however, was a different story.
“Well, I would, but I think I can see some pink underneath that salt and pepper of yours. Are you blushing, Eddy?” Stede used a slight nickname, his tone incredibly playful and teasing. He was determined to keep Ed giggling for as long as possible.
“Screhehew youhu!” Edward tried arching his back, but that only freed his ribs up more. Slipping his fingers beneath Ed’s leather, Stede wiggled his fingers against the thinner fabric of his undershirt. That got quite the reaction.
“GRK- FAHAHAHAHA! FUHUHUCK YOUHUHUHU!” Ed’s bright giggles ramped up to loud, raucous laughter. A few snorts worked their way in, making Stede’s heart melt. Oh, how he loved that sound…
“I must say, this is a fine symphony. I’m loving all the onomatopoeias, and your laugh is so melodic!” Wanting to be a bit more mean, Stede hummed a lovely tune by Bach, pretending that his fellow seamen’s ribs and belly were piano keys. “I just love tickling the ivories, don’t you?”
The bearded man couldn’t respond, too lost in laughter to form a coherent sentence. While it was nice to laugh his cares away, he was starting to wear out. His throat was drying up, and his sides were starting to ache. He patted Stede’s wrist, managing to speak through his amusing cackles. “S-STAHAHAP! STEHEHEDE!”
Immediately, Stede pulled away, sensing Ed’s weariness. He didn’t want to push too much. “Goodness, Ed, I-I’m sorry. I got a bit carried away. Are you alright?”
Closing his eyes, Edward took a few deep and giggly breaths. He was certainly tired, but not to an uncomfortable degree. “Qu-quit worryin’... Takes mohore than a little laugh to knohock Blackbeard down.” The red hue on his cheeks slowly subsided, his giggles drying up. Ed recovered pretty quickly.
“Good, good,” Stede sighed, smiling softly. Finally noticing that his hands were still on Edward, he scooted away, blushing. Ed cut him off before he could make a fool of himself.
“Ya know, it’s been a while since anyone’s had the balls to do somethin’ like that to me. Good on ya, Stede.” He clapped the blonde on the shoulder, though didn’t let go after. Instead, he flipped their positions, swiftly pinning Stede to the couch and nearly straddling him.
Ed made quick work of Stede’s resistance, even though there was hardly any to deal with. “There’s a reason for that, though. Wanna guess why?” He pinned the flamboyant man’s arms above his head without any hesitation. Stede couldn’t help the squeaky giggles that bubbled out of him, already squirming. He shook his head. Edward leaned down and whispered in his ear, scraggly beard hair tickling the poor man’s neck. He was in for a long evening...
“I always get my revenge~”

D20 Bad Fic Ideas of the Day
In the D20 fic discord, I semi-regularly post a Bad Idea of the Day, a fic idea I am myself unlikely to ever do much with but feel like throwing out there. I figured I would share some of these here, and who knows, maybe they'll spark something for other writers:
Bad idea of the day: Kristen Applebees, in Junior year, has to deal with the most horrific of new rival clerics: Janet Chili's.
Bad Idea Of The Day, A Crown of Candy edition. Lapin extra secretly is faking being a warlock of the Sugar Plum Fairy and actually IS loyal to the church; he turns on the others in the Cathedral.
Bad idea of the day, not Fantasy High edition - Six months after the fight in Times Square, the remaining members of the Dream Team have to fight the American Dream again, but it's like a video game where you fight an earlier boss later with a minor reskin and it's way less threatening. He's dressed like a used car dealer in an American Flag suit, and attempting to get into the real world simply to take place in a hot dog eating contest. (This one was posted on July 4th.)
Bad idea of the day, not even IH edition: Escape from the Bloodkeep, it turns out that if you feel strong enough emotions about someone then you can accidently forge a soulmate-esque bond that cannot be broken. Unfortunately for Leiland, the fear and hate he has for Galfast Hamhead counts.
Bad idea of the day: Adaine ends up as a warlock of her future self
Bad idea of the day, Never After edition: A fic that's just Henry Hubbard doing all the side quests Brennan wrote up that the IH just walked around
Bad Idea of the Day, Crossover Edition: Binx and Andhera, wondering the mortal realm after ACoFaF, have to go in to try to rescue one of the lost court of craft from that most dangerous of places, New York and its renegade new court, with the maybe-hostile leader in a pantsuit Rowan Berry
Bad idea of the day, ACoFaF edition: Hob actually reveals that he's three goblins in a hobgoblin trenchcoat right at the end of his finale speech to Rue
Bad Idea of the Day, Unsleeping City edition: The Dream Team has to deal with an unusually irritable New York city and a deadly attack on the Vox Phantasma, as an artifact hidden somewhere within the five boroughs has made it so that every living person in New York has a terminal case of insomnia
Bad idea of the day, time travel edition: In an accident of annoying proportions, Ayda finds herself lost in an unknown time in what should be Solace but is calling itself part of Highcourt. Eventually, she discovers a small orphan who doesn't remember his name who starts to follow her around, and she eventually comes to the realization that this is a young Arthur Aguefort.
Bad idea of the day: There is a cloud city full of ninja that is plotting to destroy the city of Leviathan, full of their natural enemies, the pirates.
Bad idea of the day, ASO edition: While Plug is off on his honeymoon, he's hired an all-purpose droid to manage his shop. Can Sundry Sydney keep the shop from shutting down or getting blown up for two weeks while waiting on Plug to get back?
Bad idea of the day, the Unsleeping City edition: Pete finds out that every 10 years, representatives of New York, Chicago, Detroit, and various other cities must gather together and fight to the death over which city's pizza will be perceived as the best for the next decade, and he's up to bat for New York.
Bad idea of the day, Remi's at the beach edition: Due to an incredibly poor choice of Arthur Aguefort's, one party every summer is responsible for the maintenance of a lighthouse on a secluded cursed island that comes under frequent attacks from the undead of those lost at sea. Can they manage to not kill each other after staying in a small isolated place together for three months?
Bad idea of the day, Remi is still on vacation edition: Following the disrespect of what happened in Fh and Fhsy Sol issues a proclaimation that unless Kristen Applebees and Arthur Aguefort are brought to justice, there will never again be a satisfactory beach day in Solace
Bad idea of the day, class swap edition: Adaine flunks out of Hudol at a way younger age and, desperately trying to find something she can do and also thrilled at the idea of getting away from her family for the summer gets herself signed up for a summer ranger youth program, being run by one Sandra Lynn Faeth. Bonus fun: she's literally the only child who signed up.
Bad idea of the day: An evil bad kids AU, except instead of the serious curse-driven version of this I have, it's like the ridiculous old star trek episodes where every mirror universe character has just absurd facial hair and wildly different personalities in ways that don't actually make sense
Bad idea of the day, My Escapism Fantasy Is Now Just It Not Being 95 Degrees and 80% Humid Edition: It's winter in Elmville and the first good snow of the year has arrived, which means it's time for an Aguefort tradition: An all-out snowball brawl between all of the school's parties to see who is the most frosty group around. Can the bad kids get over their much more natural inclination towards fire to pull out a victory?
Bad idea of the day, meta edition: A class swap AU where the classes and subclasses are directly taken from a different season but the same player.
Bad Idea of the Day, The Unsleeping City edition: After a run of strong retro advertising, the Dream Team must defeat a large number of the most evil imaginary things of all: Corporate mascots. Can they avoid the noid, stop the energizer bunny, and murder the Geico Caveman before fifteen minutes or less pass?
Bad idea of the day, it's 3 am in an apartment edition: A fic focused on Ayda's incarnation that first arrived in Leviathan and her construction of the Compass Points and seizing of the role of quartermaster of knowledge.
Bad idea of the day, pirate shanties edition: Fabian is a bard from the start, but can only work magic while on a ship because he gets too embarrassed to sing a shanty on land.
Bad idea of the day, editor edition: Adaine gets hold of one of my favorite magical items of all time, a spellbook that allows you to modify spells on the fly by adding, removing, or changing a single letter. For example, Sleep could instead become Sleet, to make an area icy terrain, or Disguise Self could instead be made into Disguise Elf to change the appearance of any elf.
Bad idea of the day, middle of the night edition: Adaine, in real need of some money following the events of FHSY, opens a paid service Oracle line and is deeply surprised and disappointed when she finds herself mostly ending up giving romantic advice.

i do live in fear of ppl asking for fic recs for my main fandoms, bc one of the side effects of me writing for a fandom is i stop reading other ppl's stuff ahdjfjfj like im so sorry, i have read two (2) goblin emperor fics ever, and apparently one of them is contentious, and the other one is blackbird, which we have all already inhaled.
idk why im embarrassed abt that tho, i just get into a space where i wanna play w my little guys in my own space and im so happy there that it's like yes this is the point of fanworks, i am enjoying myself and that's what matters!!
anyway, the rework of my ethuverazhin flagging fic is approaching being done and has ended up being so much more drastic than i intended that i'm just gonna. post it as a new story w a note that it's a huge overhaul of nor desire, with the same trajectory but an extremely different actuation—and i might wait to post it until i have the follow-up in the series done (should be real quick) just to incentivize that hehe
(tho i hope no one needs incentive, imo this one is SO much better and gets at the themes i was aiming for the first time but only sort of winged them)
((i am not deleting the first one jic it's an important thing to someone, i've had stories i cared abt deeply disappear before and i refuse to risk doing that to anyone else))
(((pirate au will happen. someday. sorryyyy)))

Bonus Bracket, Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image ID: the first image is a character sheet of Dynambi, a character with a big smile, sharp canines, blue hair and horns, wearing a brimmed hat, orange shirt, blue pants, and red and white shoes. they have no arms, instead their hands, fully white, are floating. their legs are also disconnected from their body. text next to their left reads, "Dynambi, they/them. a short tempered destruction entity created by EXPUNGED." below that is a nonbinary flag, an aroace flag, and the autism infinity symbol. below that a smaller drawing of just their head with the caption "front pov + hatless!" to their left is a color palette. the second image is of Krummhorn, a short, fat goblin with bright green skin and shoulder length black hair. he's wearing a purple doublet with hot pink stripes, a purple shirt, dark purple breeches, a purple hat with a gray feather in it, brown boots, a bandolier, and a rapier in his belt. he's carrying an instrument case. end ID]
Dynambi
by @sweetnpeachie I LOVE DYNAMBI!! they're really cool and have many fans including myself. so a little more known than some ocs but still they're based on sonic mostly, or rather as a character they grew to resemble sonic due to being a fan of him!! they also based themself after their creator/sibling which is really awesome :)
Krummhorn
by @officialjamesflint Krummhorn is the most legendary/notorious of my TTRPG characters and I need everyone to know about him and appreciate him. He's a goblin bard who's probably the most wild character I've ever played and I love him so much. He started adventuring because he met a celebrity and decided that they were soulmates and then went off on a quest to find his soulmate (so parasocial relationships taken to a deeply absurd level). Once that quest ended in despair (for Krummhorn), he became absolutely unhinged and lost all sense of danger. Currently he is a pirate with the rest of the party! Other important facts: -Plays the hurdy-gurdy -Has an ancestry trait that allows him to eat anything without being harmed and WILL use it (once he ate some food out of the garbage and got attacked by ants) -Canonically is always wearing a ladybug costume -Collects crossbows -Gay -Is named after a Renaissance instrument! I may be a music history nerd

Like holy shit, people really pre-ordered that shit, people really wasted 70 fucking euros on this shit, fucking assholes committed the CAPITAL SIN of preordering a triple AAA Game before release just so they could be Transphobic or Anti-Semitic on main and now they are going to bear the fruits of this mistake, like holy shit this whole shitshow had MULTIPLE red flags even before the fucking Anti-Semitic Plot and the whole JRK Transphobia issue, and they just barrelled past that into wasting 70 EUROS on a fucking generic, mid wizard RPG.
WITH 26 SPELLS.
Like, holy shit guys, THIS IS THE FUCKING GAMEPLAY.
I am astounded, I am at a loss of fucking words, this is the most generic basic bitch shit ever, we see a total of FIVE spells being used by the player character.
1) Generic red bullet colored red.
2) Generic red bullet colored red but with a gliph in front of you so now it casts on rapid fire.
3) Area shield/shockwave, only one with a minimum of flair.
4) Generic red bullet but on fire.
5) Levicorpus.
This has no fucking impact, the screen is completely empty and reduced to drab dark colour and the extent of your impact in the game is fucking small red bolts, this feels like shit watching it let alone playing it Fucking Dragon Age Inquisition as a Mage did this shit better 10 years ago, and that wasn’t exactly a masterpiece of combat mechanics, the fucking random ass dodge rolls to bait the souls fans, the fact the ENEMIES EXPLODE INTO NOTHING WHEN DEFEATED no knocked out bodies no corpses nope, this is all shit that was done way better with way less of a team behind it DECADES ago holy shit what the fuck.
IT’S A FUCKING DEDICATED WIZARD GAME.
WITH 26 SPELLS.
MOST OF WHOM LOOK LIKE SHIT.
This is going to be an extremely mediocre game, this is going to be the Ghostbuster 2016 of the fucking right, they are going to defend this generic, shovelware, slave owning, rebellion quelling simulator with generic ass “Loyalist Warrior” goblin enemies coming at you one at a time with their axes and saying generic snivelling evil shit before every strike.
I am at a loss of fucking words that this whole fucking situation is being had over one of the most generic ass shit games I’ve ever seen holy shit.
Now more than fucking ever just skip on this one, don’t pirate it, definitely don’t buy it, don’t give Rowling more money and validation, don’t fucking play the fucking goblin rebellion quelling simulator game, because you can’t even fucking go “well at least it’s fun.”
Because holy shit it fucking doesn’t look like fun.
This looks boring as fuck.
Wizards of Legends managed to get 206 unique spells each with a different feel and impact and satisfying casting animation.
This shit has 26.
And most of them seem to be variations of a generic red bullet to shoot at enemies till they explode.

Honestly I might've begun to understand some of these so-called "allies" who are bending the laws of reality in order not to feel bad for buying Hogwarts: Blood Libel if the game had any redeeming qualities. They're really out there going "whoops to Jews, transes and POCs (and many other groups I'm probably forgetting cause J. K. is a cunt) I guess, I just gotta go walk around a castle and kill goblins who have been established as second-class citizens in a world where characters are made fun of for wanting to end slavery. And it's incredibly boring, patronisingly straightforward and the characters are made out of cardboard but at least I get a wand and a scarf"
Like imagine doing all of that because you want to play a painfully mediocre game? That's not even worth dusting off ye olde pirate flag for?
Just throwing these marginalized groups under the bus because you want to see some bricks and pow pow magic stick action???
There's simply no ground on which this thing can be defended.

reading first-time ed/stede fanfics where stede is all nervous and telling ed he doesn’t know what he’s doing and asking for guidance is so fucking funny. are we talking about the same character here? yes he’s inexperienced but you think that would slow him down for a fucking second? this man would be on his knees going “standard blowjob rules apply then? what are those exactly?”

tbh one thing that makes Our Flag Means Death so delightful is how utterly unhinged all the characters are and how fully we just accept that. there’s a sort of moral suspension of disbelief—like yeah i know that in the moral universe i exist in, setting a ship full of people on fire and leaving them to die is not an okay thing to do, really. but i don’t give a second thought to it happening in the silly gay pirate moral universe.
and i feel like that’s a credit to the show! like in the same way that really good world-building lets a viewer suspend their disbelief and engage in a fantasy/sci-fi world—even though part of your brain is aware that in the world you live in, people can’t, say, move things with their mind, you accept that in this fantasy world, they can. But it needs to be consistent to be convincing—if the rules of the world don’t apply to some characters for unexplained reasons, or the logic breaks down if you look too closely, it jolts you out of that universe.
if you extend that same logic to the characters’ way of seeing the world—the OFMD creators did a great job of creating characters who are unhinged but in a way that’s convincing and even relatable within the context of the story. i accept that within the little gay pirate world, there is nothing morally wrong with murder or maiming or torture or stealing, but being racist or creating pointless work for your crew out of spite makes you an asshole.
and it’s so delightful because it allows for all these bonkers character interactions, little moments of subverted expectations. like stede’s guilt in ep 2 turning out to not be about killing nigel at all but about leaving his family without closure. or like when ed tells stede he hasn’t killed anyone since his own father—in a different universe that might indicate a moral difference between him and the other pirates, but instead he follows it up with “maiming’s different. love a good maim” and acknowledgement that he orders people killed all the time, just doesn’t like to do it himself. and suddenly an interaction that you’d expect to be about guilt or not wanting to cause harm instead becomes something else—something about ed’s discomfort with the uglier aspects of piracy, or about his reaction to his father’s violence, or about a part of himself he’s afraid to face, or about his relationship to the idea of death. so many possible interpretations—it’s such a fascinating little window opened up into his character.
it’s also fun bc it just completely absolves you of any feeling that you have to agree with a character’s morals in order to like them. not that that’s a super interesting way to engage in media anyway, but in a show like OFMD you literally can’t bc NONE of the protagonists would pass that test. so you’re sort of forced to just sit back and enjoy the ride

that fanfic thing where the writer takes a relatively minor line a character says at some point in the show and repurposes it in a different context, and it’s such a perfect little touchpoint to make the character/moment feel so familiar and it lets you hear it in their voice so clearly and it’s so exactly THEM. fic writers who do this i am picking you up and kissing you on the head like a soft little mouse

i may look like i’m paying attention to what’s going on around me but inside my head it’s just “well sussed!” “not bloody optimal” “dickfuck, no it’s not” “did you mean to do that?” “hi all!” “there’s always an escape” “i know that, BABE” “man for sale!” “coming nana! coming for cake!” “take your sword. run me through” “treasure is the real treasure!” “that’s some damn good marmalade”

My #1 post of 2022
i saw a post about the “izzy thinks stede and ed are fucking when theyre actually swordfighting” scene that was like “we need a s2 parallel where izzy thinks theyre swordfighting and walks in on them fucking”
and honestly youre right, and also, the reason izzy thinks theyre dueling is bc stede keeps loudly saying things like “well, now, that was an excellent move! youve got to show me how to do that sometime”

The movies that I watched in 2022.
and what I thought of them.
Encanto: A really cute story, which I enjoyed but I did think it had a few pacing issues. Still did the job it was suppose to due, the theme hit home and the songs were fun (until the kids that I teach at the kindergarten made me play them one too many times and now I can't stand them)
A New Year's Medley: I usually have a hard time with films that follow more than so many little storyline that then just come together in the end. Some of the stories here were fun, others a completely bore.
The French Dispatch: There is a certain charm to the way Anderson sets up his movies and the visuals which is sometimes more interesting and fun than his actual plots. This one falls a victim of that, I fear.
Kiki's Delivery Service: So very cute, so cozy. Like a hot cup of tea on a sweet spring evening. A delight.
Valley Girl (2021): I had to google what movie this was, which probably says it all, really.
Pirates - Goblin Flag: the humor in this movie was just a bit too over the top and there wasn't really a good flow between it and the action in my opinion. Made it less fun.
The Tragedy of Macbeth: So stylized, so cool, but I didn't really enjoy the movie all that much.
Turning Red: Colorful and cute story with fun songs. I enjoyed myself a whole lot!
The King's Man: You know, I thought this was a step in the right direction in trying to recapture the charm of the first film. A good mix of action and comedy and it seems to know it's own strengths.
Doctor Strange - Into the Multiverse of Madness: This was a bit of a weird movie but in a fun way. Doctor Strange as a character doesn't really do anything for me in the MCU world, but I enjoyed how much this movie felt like an homage to old horror movies and sometimes feels like that b-horror movie at times. Way too long tho.
Everything Everywhere All At Once: What a treat! There was so much imagination and passion that went into this film and it just shows. It bleeds into everything and makes this film an unforgettable experience.
Berdreymi: I often felt very uncomfortable watching this film. I felt that it was possible to convey the message and the brutality of the world these boys lived in without it being showed down our throats like it was. And the kind of fantasy-but-not-so-fantasy twists in the movie just came a little too late.
The Norseman: Wow, that really was just a big hollywood viking that very much tried to have some new approach to these types of stories, but I personally couldn't see that from the characters, how it depicted the viking age (from a lens of hollywood) or the way the story unfolded. Quite boring.
Margaret - Queen of the North: A good costume drama, interesting period to be sure. I enjoyed the story even though nothing about it felt fresh or new. Just well made.
Tove: A sweet story about an awesome woman and her life. I thought it would cover more of Tove's life and I kinda felt like it just left me hanging there at the end.
Not Okay: Much more interesting than I thought it would be. There was a fair amount of satire and commentary about social media going around in this film, but I didn't feel it went deep enough.
Pleasure: From time to time it was very difficult to watch this movie or some scenes. I had to take it in several sections to finish it. It's really raw in it's approach, but that's also the point of it, I think.
Soul Vibes: I stopped paying attention to the story towards the end.
Welcome Árni: A sincere and beautiful story about a uncle of mine.
Do Revenge: Funny and clever. Really enjoyed the characters and style of the film. Went in slightly different directions than I thought it would, but in a good way. Fun twists.
Pinnochio (2019): This is an Italian version of this story, which was just okay-ish, but what really struck me (in a good way) was the costume design and all of the look that the movie had. There was a bit of that passion for filmmaking, of old hollywood tricks, there which I enjoyed.
Hocus Pocus 2: Not a sequel we needed, but a welcoming one nonetheless. It really felt like nothing had changed and there was a good heart to this story.
Death Becomes Her: Infinitely camp and that is what is awesome about it. Never takes itself too seriously, which I adore, but still has so much heart so it never feels too much.
Rosalina: It's kind of like the Reign version of Romeo and Juliet that doesn't take itself too seriously and that's what's good about this movie. The language and the way the characters act is all modern everything the film still feels a bit like it was written and filmed in 2016 and then just forgotten for several years. But you can have fun watching it.
Catherine Called Birdy: This was fun! There was humor and heart there and it was just a good, kind of contemporary comedy in a historical setting about what it was like to be a young girl of a certain age in the Middle Ages. And although it is possible to find more stories with a similar format, with similar emphasis, I felt that there was a little bit of a breath of fresh air in this story. And the casting was great.
Triangle of Sadness: Absolutely amazing and thought provoking. You never know where the movie is really going and a really cool take on this kind of human nature and our desire for power, however it comes to us. But still, I thought this movie was a bit too long.
Nope: Totally my type of horror. A bit strange, but really good reflection the characters and how their backstories have shaped them. That rejection and the greed for the limelight. A satire on Hollywood. The horror has something to say, but isn't just there to make you feel scared.
Knives Out: I don't normally go for a lot of mysteries like this one, but based on all the praise I've heard for this movie, I really couldn't ignore it anymore. And yes, there were really good twists there and it was constantly surprising. A really good fun.
Ready or Not?: This was my second attempt at watching this movie, because I started it once and I just couldn't finish it. This is not exactly my type of horror. So brutal and bloody almost for the sake of being brutal and bloody. I find this kind of chase frustrating to watch, but I can totally understand why it gets all the praise it does.
Enola Holmes 2: This little netflix movie series (because I hope we get more of Enola Holmes) is that unashamedly modern take on costume dreams that I personally love. It may be a bit exaggerated, but it knows it and plays with the form and really seems to know where its strengths lie. This is just such fun adventure, the puzzles are fun and it's just a blast. Managed to capture everything that was good about the previous film without seeming like too much of a copy.
Disenchanted: It wasn't exactly the sequel we needed, but still the good movie that mostly lived up to everything that was good about the first film. It has this fairy-tale quality and it seemed like the people behind it enjoyed the story and wanted to do it well. Very nice callbacks to the previous film and also just old fairytales and never took itself too seriously, as films such as this really have to do.
Broker: personally, it didn't touch my heart as much as the director's previous film (Shoplifters). There is a bit of the same heaviness among all these broken characters that come together, but I just expected to feel more things while watching it. It was almost like this story was a little too big for this movie.
Decision to Leave: I can appreciate the theme and the story on paper and I enjoy what the movie is saying and all that, but I can't necessarily say that I had a lot of fun with it. I thought it was a bit long-winded.
Last Christmas: A cute, maybe a little predictable Christmas movie but that is sort of what you're going for with these types films. I'm not really into them personally, they don't get me in the Christmas spirit, but some are the fun entertainment and it's a easy-going watch, which is nice.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story: I will watch pretty much anything that my man Daniel Radcliffe stars in, and this movie is no exception. The humor, however, never really got to me. I can see what the movie was trying to do with this parody of all the celebrity memoirs we've seen in recent years, but I just didn't enjoy it.
The Wonder: A slow but amazing film that perhaps has a rather obvious twist, but does it so humanely that you kind of don't care about it until it comes towards the end. Lovely character work.
Hatching: An incredibly cool, well-made horror and the idea behind it is neat, but I thought it dragged a bit. It wasn't quite hitting the mark as much as I wanted.
Knives Out: Glass Onion: I actually enjoyed this movie just as much as the last one. Loved all the twists and turns here and it manages to keep what was good and fun about the first movie while doing something entirely new. This is a romp!
