The Princess Switch (2018, Mike Rohl)
18/12/2023
The Princess Switch is a 2018 Christmas-themed romantic comedy film directed by Mike Rohl, inspired by a screenplay by Robin Bernheim and Megan Metzger. The main actors of the film are Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio.
The film was released on Netflix 16, 2018 exclusively on Netflix.
Having gone to the back of the pastry competition studios to try to remove stains from her apron, Stacy clashes with Lady Margaret of the kingdom of Montenaro, Duchess and future wife of Prince Edward of Belgravia.
The Duchess and Stacy are perfectly identical, probably thanks to a distant family bond that binds them and, at the request of the future princess, tired of the rigid etiquette that she is forced to follow and completely unaware of what it would be like to live a normal life, the two girls exchange identities for a couple of days, and then return to their respective lives.
In June 2018, it was announced that Vanessa Hudgens and Sam Palladio would star in the Netflix film The Princess Switch.
Most of the film was shot in Romania.
The sequel The Princess Switch: Switched Again was released in 2020 and in 2021 The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star.

I have rediscovered something. Something that I’m ashamed I’ve forgotten about for so many years…
Paper Mario. I’ve loved this game so much as a kid, despite getting stuck for an embarrassing amount of time in… I think it was Chapter 4? But that’s a story for another day.
This song is called Mario and Peach’s theme. It plays at the end of the game once you’ve beaten Bowser and saved Princess Peach once more. It is the only song I can think of right now that is not just a theme for a single character, but for two, and quite possibly as a couple.
Hearing this again is so nostalgic for me. It actually makes tears come to my eyes about every time I hear it. It is a soft, beautiful melody that I believe perfectly captures Mario and Peach’s relationship. Like how they would do anything for each other. How he’d travel through many worlds and fight terrible enemies until he’s reached her. How’d she’d try to help him on his adventures as much as she can, even if it isn’t much. Then… after a long and difficult journey, they are finally reunited, happy and relieved to be in the arms of the ones they love again. There is sadness in the song, but it is also a hopeful one. It let you know that no matter how far your loved one is, you will always find each other again…
*Ahem* But I digress, I’m no music reviewer, or a writer even, but I did want to share my thoughts on this piece. It’s become one of my favorites again. Maybe I’ll draw something around that song. Let me know your thoughts as well. :)

I know ‘The Princess Switch’ fandom is pretty much bare, but if anyone out there is much of a fan of it as I am then please don’t hesitate to reach out.
It’s a bit lonely here and while it’s technically a Christmas franchise, it still holds a very special place in my heart. 🥺
