A warm August night, and the day – and at the same time the feast – of Saint Aure’guen was a time when animals spoke with human voices, flowers changed their places and arranged themselves in beautiful patterns, and the stars showed the future to those who dared to look at them. It was a magical moment, celebrated only once a year on the fourth Tuesday of the month mentioned above.

“... It’s beautiful today, isn’t it?” You asked quietly, squeezing your lover’s hand tighter, who timidly nodded his head, looking at the stars arranged in various figures or signs. The moon was obscured by dark clouds giving the opportunity to shine that night to its smaller brothers. “Do you see anything interesting? Has heaven told you a secret or something?”

The Prince of Aquemering looked into your shining eyes for a brief moment, then turned his full attention back to the dark and the flashing dots. He was observant, intelligent, and loved anything to do with space. He was the opposite of you – a boy boy who loved music, painting and fencing. You loved the mundane things, while Rey loved history, the mysteries of the world, the cosmos and the depths of all the oceans that surround the earth, and all the fossils and ancestors of your families.

“The stars warn of a battle between the two of us. We must beware of third parties who will seek to destroy our happiness.” He said quietly, closing his tired eyelids.

As the future king, and also the current prince of Ignitesu, you will certainly be forced to marry a woman whose name you will hear on the occasion of your wedding ceremony in a few years. You will surely become the father of several children, a respected ruler and beloved man of the whole kingdom. But it wasn’t what you wanted. You just wanted to spend your next years, until the day of your death, with a person with whom you share not only love, but also mutual respect, sincere friendship and much more important values than the desire to start a family or exercise power over the entire country. These feelings were stronger than life and more certain than death.

“Ohh, I see. So... Are we gonna fight? Like fist to fist or rather… lips to lips?” You joked, wanting to lighten the atmosphere between the two of you, but Ray just rolled his eyes, pinching your warm right cheek.

The stars never lie; perhaps your fight will be symbolic – for a piece of baked potato with pepper on a plate – or perhaps it will have a second bottom that will end your relationship once and for all. The stars were never wrong, but they also never said when it would happen; tomorrow, in five months, in eight years, on your seventieth birthday. Or maybe posthumously? Nobody knows that.

Now, however, you wanted to enjoy the Night of Truth and each other’s presence. You didn’t want to think about superfluous things, you didn’t want to talk about the future. Now, in this moment, you valued the present and your current feelings. What will be tomorrow will be tomorrow.

• Ray is one of the orphanage model student, who constantly gets perfect scores during the daily examinations. He is also known to be an avid reader with high intellectual abilities, frank skepticism and cunning. I do not think there is a way to escape.

• I mean, look at the devious plans that he has come up, and that, I'm not surprised anymore, they worked brilliantly.

• He is known to have an extremely cold personality with everyone.

• Well, at least with others, with you he is the exact opposite.

• All that ice front will collapse as soon as you would start giving him affection and confort.

• You'd probably figure the second mother/father's orphanage, which would instantly have him attracted to you like a moth, because of the bond he personally hideous with his biological mother.

• He would be so good at hiding what he's feeling, the constant feeling of jealousy when he sees you hugging Don, or the thousands of worries that would run in his mind whenever you're not with him, that even Isabella wouldn't know what's constantly in his mind.

And as it should be.

He knew she would use it against him.

• Emma would, however, would've noticed the ongoing fleeting glances of him to you that would be immediately stop as soon as mum would be around. It's such a complete switch to his normal behaviours that she would have connected all the dots and confronted with the boy about of his feelings for you. Eventually Ray would get new aid.

• Norman would have remained neutral, the only thing that interested him was the escape and Emma's safety, and if he had to help Ray to keep you with him to continue to receive important information that the latter had, so be it.

• He's very protective. And I don't blame him at all. With you two being human kids in a Orphange just to be eaten by some disgusting demons, and with your pretty naive nature, he would constantly be afraid that you may have been chosen as the next course by those bastards.

• Never leave him, he could be even more that that.

• Haha, you will never get out of him.

• Norman, along with Ray and Emma are the smartest in the orphanage: even if you wanted to, you couldn't get rid of them, especially when they're working together.

• Norman is a math prodigy and a model student, with an intelligence that surpasses his peers and even adults. He is also known for being a brilliant strategist and planner, as well as unbeatable at hide and seek.

• Do you really think you have a chance?

• He would not have been discovered at all. You would never know that he had such dark feelings towards you; which would have helped him immensely as you would never have tried to get away from him.

•You wouldn't expect him to be like that. So weak for you and Emma, so devoted to you to to the point to even wanting to killing all of those filthy beings and eat their bodies. Why don't let them have a taste of their own medicine?

•But he's not that stupid. He knows he's just a weak kid compared to a standard demon, and he's definitely not that deluded to the point to fight one. He needs a little more time and a good strategy, and then all will come to him.

• Now, his priorities have changed: escape from that hell hole that is the orphanage and save you, Emma and Ray from the rot that surrounded you. He doesn't absolutely care about the other kids, but thanks to Emma, he now needs to help them too. If she didn't say anything or if she didn't stopped Norman from following his original plan, they would be all dead in the next few years.

• Norman is a calm, balanced, kind guy who wants to appear as a reliable person to those around him. He's the living represention of the sentence: "Reality is totally distant from appearances".

• He would be suffocating. You would never know why he'd be always around you, talking to you more than with the other kids, touching you, but you still wouldn't do anything about it, feeling somehow special because of him. A guy so cunning and smart as him wants to constantly talk to you, eat with you, wants to seat near you during exams and lessons, and wants to even play with you? And while he could choose anyone else to play with, he did wanted to always be with you? You would've been soo happy.

• He would approach you as he would do to all the other children, but instead of engaging in a platonic relationship as he planned, he found himself having feelings for you as much as he did for Emma, if not stronger.

• And don't even think about counting on the girl or Ray, they won't help at all.

•Or at least not you.

Emma plays the part of an older sister among her youngest and always shows unlimited love and care for her adoptive siblings.

• With her personality extremely cheerful, it would be hard to ignore the fact that she has a huge crush on you.

• Her reputation would be perfect. No one would suspect that beneath the sweet, bubbly little girl was another completely different person ready to pick you up and keep you safe.

• That said, no one would help you. Neither Don, not Mom, Ray, Norman, nobody. They would all be on Emma's side when she casually starts crying saying she said bad words to her.

• So she will isolate you as much as possible.

• She would keep your shirts and trinkets under her pillow, and if mom found out, she would just say she wanted to give them back to you the night before but she forgot about it.

•Even the mum wouldn't suspect nothing.

• One way or another, she will always escape any accusation. And don't count on Ray and Norman, in fact, maybe the latter could hurt you if you hurt her too much. And she would use that affection. Trust me.

You are like an opposite of ray, to be more exact; more open and social than him.

You bond well with Ray while the memories still haven't come to your mind.

You took a little more time to remember about things like ray did but when you did and connected the lines together—you were horrified.

This resulted in you being wary of your brother and mother, your wariness shown by tiny bits of actions made them suspicious you.

You didn't trust the things you remembered at an early age so you decided to investigate.

You stalked your twin brother and how he always gets to your "Mothers" room every night

You eavesdropped in their conversations that made your nightmare confirmed to be true bit by bit.

You were too horrified to notice that Ray already knew you were stalking him, but he didn't mind as it wouldn't be hard anymore to explain the horrible life the kids will have after getting "adopted".

After a few days still being in horror, one night; Ray offered you to be a spy with him like he does but you refused.

Day by day you distanced yourself from your twin brother and your mother as you don't trust them anymore to even get near you, which in turn made you lose bond with your twin.

Eventually—you became like a second mother to the orphans as you promised to yourself to give them the best life possible before their doom.

He went through the motions of taking out the medical supplies, telling the injured kids to line up for Zack to have a look at them, before retiring to the upper floor of the windmill.

“Are you alright?” You asked. He nodded, squeezing your hand as he walked past you without a word.

Your concerns grew when he didn't come down by dusk. The crowd had dispersed, leaving a couple of badly injured children resting in makeshift cots in one side of the windmill. The rest of the group was busying about, discussing new tools and taking notes of who was lost in today's hunt.

Your heart clenched as you recalled the screams. It was the worst part of the day, when you returned to the safety, sighing in relief that they hadn't gotten you today — sighing in relief that someone else had died instead of you.

You walked up the stairs, finding Oliver leaning against the wall near a tiny, circular window. His gaze was unfocused, but directed outside. The sky was orange, and it was almost serene. Almost, but you saw the poles with speakers tied to them. Speakers which blasted the death song every other day.

You grabbed his hand, intertwining your fingers silently.

“Are you alright?” You asked after a while. He didn't seem like he had any intention to instigate a conversation.

He hummed.

“Are you hungry?”

He shook his head.

“I'll grab some food anyway,” you said, starting to pull away from his grasp, but he squeezed your hand and pulled you towards him.

His free arm circled around your shoulders, and his face settled into the crook of your neck. Your arm circled his abdomen. His heart beat loudly against yours.

“I'm tired,” he said, “so, so tired.”

“Shall we call it a day, then?”

He squeezed you a little tighter, whining from the back of his throat. “Stay here for a bit.”

Your hand, which sat on his waist, moved to the base of his neck, where your fingers gently stroked his hair.

“Are you hurt?” You asked, your brows furrowing in worry.

He shook his head. These moments when Oliver could let go, for a second, were precious to the both of you. Small moments where he shed everything that had been weighing on him, just for a second, and simply existed.

“I probably don't smell pleasant at all,” you joked. “I was sweating a lot.”

He chuckled. “I didn't wanna say anything.”

You feigned a hurt gasp. “How dare you?”

You put both hands on his cheeks, and craddled his face to face you. His pair of gentle crimson irises seemed exhausted. Understandably so. Going through the routines of existing and running from certain death multiple times a week would wear any sane person down, especially when you were planning an uprising.

You tiptoed, and pressed a kiss in-between his eyebrows, then his cheeks, his nose, before finally his lips.

“I'm here for you,” you whispered. “We're all here with you.”

He smiled into your lips. “I know.”
