Replicant: The Love of Dolly the Sheep Review
Hi everyone! As promised, I came back to talk about the 4-chapter long BL manga that graced us on Futekiya  the other day - Replicant: The Love of Dolly the Sheep by Yamada Supokon. I'll keep it spoiler-free as much as I can. My first BL review in 2023, let's go ~
Tumblr media
You can read the first chapter for free here, but having no futekiya subscription in this day and age as a BL fan? Not acceptable.
Before I get to the series, for the longest time I've been selfishly wanting characters who study/work in STEM in my little corner. I don't even need the theme itself to be related to science, and surely I have nothing against humanities/artist people but?? I feel like I barely see a character from STEM. The only title that comes to mind at the top of my head is Perfect Fit (Thanat), but other than that, unless the topic itself is science-related, I don't think I see STEM students/grads. We exist and some of us are gay, okay?
Now that I got that out of my system, I'll start by saying that Replicant was an interesting SciFi piece that opens with a grandfather reminiscing his past with his granddaughter, and manages to introduce a very interesting twist, closing on a bittersweet note.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One theme that was striking and reminded me of a book of essays on beauty years ago by Francette Pacteau called "The Symptom of Beauty" (official introduction below if you're curious about the context). In the chapter "The Imaginary Companion", the focus is on artificial women and the men who create them. "Tales about the creation of an artificial woman are spun from disappointment with the imperfection of real women." The power this quote holds...
Tumblr media
As the author continue to give examples from ancient mythsand modern sci-fi alike, they also make a point that these men are pushing boundaries, "tempting God", and this "male procreation [is] premised on the exclusion of reproductive woman". (Now that I give it another read, the book seems trans-exclusionary but let's let that slide for now.) I've never thought of the act of artificial creation as giving birth before, hence the reason why I still remember the chapter today.
!!!SPOILERS!!! Circling back to Replicant; and this part contains spoilers from the 2nd chapter, it was very interesting to see Chris referring to the clones as "his children". and not only in context of wanting a child himself, but yearning for a "normal" relationship with Seth, being able to stand by his side as a lover the way Christina can. This is beautifully conveyed through two successive panels where Chris is reminded of Christina's expectations. They are even similar in their names and appearance. That could only mean one thing for Chris, who has to conceal the hunger and pining he has for his friend; a replica of Seth.
Tumblr media
!!!SPOILERS END!!!
With the twist we get to see towards the end, Replica proved to be a very compelling, inventive, and emotional read and I'm so glad I got to meet Yamada Supokon through this evocative & thought-provoking volume. As always, I'd like to hear what you think! Let me know through comments or reblogs.

hey, uh, idk if u know this or not but the book of urantia & the cult surrounding it are like. really racist and kinda awful. u reblogged a quote from the book a little bit ago and i wanted to ask if you knew. this link talks about it a bit as well as some interesting stuff about celestial seasonings tea brand being involved in it: https:// www. foodandwine . com/drinks/sleepytime-tea-and-little-known-religion-behind-it
I don’t know if you know this, but, the Bible and the cult surrounding it are like, really racist and kinda awful. I don’t know how to change this for you, but I will still post Bible quotes I think are useful, relevant, or hilarious, because religions are things you can decide whether or not you join--you don’t get automatically slurped into one by reading a quote from a book.
I posted the quote by randomly flipping to a page and typing what was on the page I opened it to. I thought the “Adamic Administration” part was pretty loony and I think it’s interesting to see how just a slight retelling of Bible history can change your perception of it.
My posting policy for book quotes is that if I happen upon something that’s got hurtful wording in the passage, I most likely won’t post it unless there’s a compelling reason why--if I happen upon something that exposes the author or the organization behaving in a racist or prejudicial manner, I will be likely to post that and also add additional commentary on what I think about it.
So you have this comment where you say “I wanted to ask you if you knew this” and then sent me an article from foodandwine.com, not exactly a reputable source of information on RELIGIONS AND CULTS. I wanted to ask you if you have any idea how strange your ask looks and how weird it is that the most detailed thing you can tell me yourself about this organization is that they are oddly involved with Celestial Seasonings. Like, you have nothing else in there, by the way. You’re just asking if I know. Well, the answer is: what relevance does that have to the actual post I made, or do you not have a real answer for that?
Added note: if you're here to tell me an entire religion is a cult and inherently wrong in an effort to influence my blog to position itself against a religion, and your only supporting argument is that a food site said they're in cahoots with a discount tea brand, I'm gonna be damn hostile and you'd better believe it.

Astrology Observation - Nakshatra Edition ✨
Hello! Here’s the promised Nakshatra post, over the course of my learning and just interacting with people, there’s a lot I’ve learned and I’d like to share em! Feel free to correct me, I’m still very much a student when it comes to these, lol.
⚡ The nakshatra of your rising often dictates what life is going to throw at you and HOW you need to approach each issue. Example: Krittika risings might need to deal with situations that comes up by cutting out the unnecessary things in their life, Chitra might need to compartmentalise, organize and focus on the details, Jyestha might need to focus on self-preservation etc.
⚡ I feel like the reason Purva Bhadrapada is such a “be care of that one” sign when it comes to interpretations, not because of the two-faced symbolism/nature but because of this nakshatra being the last of the Jupiter-ruled Nakshatras. Jupiter is at its peak of expansion here, to the point that it becomes uncontrollable and as a result Purva Bhadrapada individuals often feel like there isn’t a natural limit, anchor or restriction to their actions. These individuals mimic the “dark night of the soul” in a way, that is detached from attachments outside their personal choice. This often leads to two kinds of manifestation, an individual that is uncontrolled in the eyes of society because there’s truly nothing that compels them besides their own motivation, or a highly spiritual person, who ends up utilizing this innate detachment to the outside world as spiritual elevation/motivation through discipline that is brought by true choice. (Saturn’s energy bringing spiritual balance)
⚡ Dhanista is often a very good nakshatra for professional fame, mainly because the nakshatra itself demands attention BUT while these individuals tend to be very talented and often loved, they have a tendency to suffer in their private lives, as their focus and “good fortune” usually comes in their work/professional life. (mann, dhanista celebs are so captivating thoughh) ⚡ Dhanista individuals are actually the nakshatra least present in murderers/serial killers, as explained by Claire Nakti, Mars last nakshatra is the highest form of expression of Mars and it also falls in Saturn ruled signs (Capricorn & Aquarius), refining the aggression and energy towards a more work orientated attitude.
⚡ Jyestha and their tendency to suppress emotions because they(or generally not express them) until it’s too much to the point that they completely break down, and end up going into an almost “berserk” rage. Not to say it’s violent (but can be if mars is involved in anyway, or aspecting the moon itself) but when they do have these anger breakdowns, they tend to act like a pissed off Scorpion placed in a dark hole, striking at anything that is within their reach. Of course, depending on the placement their “world” might shift to specific focus of that planet, but they are very much in the me vs the world mindset.
⚡ Also, Jyestha is an excellent money-making or business-minded position.
⚡ I think the parallels between Purva Bhadrapada and Jyestha are so interesting, they tend to naturally gravitate towards each other, I wonder if it’s because one (Purva Bhadrapada) is radical freedom while Jyesthas usually are distrustful to the point of taking responsibility all by themselves, lol.
⚡ Purva Bhadrapada are attracted to the self-responsible nature of Jyesthas but I think, Jyesthas tend to be attracted to Purva Bhadrapada due to the other’s ability to be so completely free and un-resentful of their emotional expression. Purva Bhadrapada exists fully in their emotions without consequences, unaffected by other’s grievances or the world’s sorrows unless they choose to be, unmoved almost. In a way, they are intrigued by the other’s extreme.
⚡ Look at your DK’s aka Darakarka’s nakshatra (the planet with the lowest degree in your chart), often times, the nakshatra manifests quite literally in your spouse. Also, the ruling planet of that nakshatra might be prominent or present in their chart.
⚡ Ardra truly embodies the mutable boredom, in a way, they can only be moved or interested by things that particularly interests them and that’s it. They don’t care about what they need to do, they only care about what they’re interested in or what they want.
⚡ Might not seem like it but Chitra nakshatra loves to poke at society’s boundaries, there’s a prominent in presence of perfecting and constructing illusionary forms to the greater masses, often times it’s done for acts of unrestrained self-expression.
⚡ The most auspicious nakshatras aren’t Jupiter ruled ones, like many people would think, it’s the Saturn ruled nakshatras.
⚡ Revati has the ultimate “out of this world” vibe, to the point that they often might feel like they don’t belong in this world.
⚡ Krittika is probably the reason why Taurus gets the underhanded reputation of ghosting, they are not afraid to cut unnecessary things out of their life and it often happens really seamlessly.
⚡ It’s been said by many people but Rohini IS the ultimate sugar baby nakshatra. I think it also has to do with the fact that Rohini tends to be the placement of indulgence, in a way, there is a want or tendency to gain attention, to have the most comfortable/luxurious life. (also very captivating eyes!)

Astrology Observation 💅
Because I'm bored and waiting for my blueberry tea to finish cooling, also, disclaimer this is from my perspective & you can point out any mistakes etc if you see 'em.
❤️ Aquarius placements (particularly in major planets) can give an almost "cooling" element to any explosive or mars-ruled sign. Like combos of Aquarius sun - Aries/Scorpio moon, for example. Don't get me wrong, the avoidant quality that Aquarius have does influence who or when they express their anger, they hide their more emotional side because they themselves see it as a "detriment" despite, acting in accordance to the more passionate side of the sign. They don't really have a tendency to open up but I honestly implore these people to do so when they're in the midst of a boiling point/when they're at the edge, you're not less for feeling anger or letting emotions overwhelm you, trust me. Not to mention your Aquarius placement, in such moments, will be more likely to listen to detached/or logical opinion and advice, which might help you not make a decision that would've been bad in the long run ™
🧡 Taurus placements need to be careful in regards of their basic needs. Often times, the earth sign depression can get too much and it might end up with them landing into unhealthy or neglectful habits, or out of the sheer inability to start. Yes, this is a call-out for myself too. Not taking care of yourself & your basic needs first before tackling anything else can make you feel worse and degrade your sense of self, as Taurus is a sign that works through the body and intuition, with the emphasis on the body (because material), taking care of your basics and some more is vital to having a stronger and more functional sense of self, it might be a drag but easing into a routine of self care would be best for the long run, trust me. (2nd house also rules basic needs). You suddenly feel like you hate everyone? You're probably neglecting on eating. You suddenly think everyone hates you? Get some rest & good sleep girl.
💛 Pluto, its placement & sign, can be indicators to how people try to usually manipulate you. But, the catch is, Pluto makes your eyes wide-open about where & how, it's intentional. Through exposure of the darker sides of life through the house & sign, Pluto wants you to learn, grow and be BETTER than any of your manipulators ever were. It's the thing with Pluto, that's almost similar, you will often feel like you need to change (intentional) to properly meet the challenges it places on you, eventually of course, it produces a stronger person, but this process will be ongoing until you truly master the house it's placed in - some people can, some can't, you can't discount the scorpionic ways of Pluto who demands change, to be better, to be stronger.
💚 Libra are often more responsibility driven than many give them credit for. Saturn is exalted in Libra, after all. They don't come off as it, not initially, but internally they often hold a standard to themselves - the people and situations that have served them and demands responsibility in return? Even if the thing/person/situation that does can often be toxic as hell? You know for sure that they're always considering it while making decisions. It doesn't matter if they don't need to be responsible, they feel obliged to. There's a sense of prioritizing other when it comes to Libra placements, so they can often stumble into toxic situations because of that. Libra babes need people who are good and can appreciate the effort they return. Look at the house where Libra sits, it's often a place where you feel a willing obligation to things (more prominent with Libra placements).
💙 Pisces, and placements, can often have difficulties with reality vs fiction, to the level that it physically manifests. They already have blurred boundaries, with an exceptional ability to access anyone's or anything's emotional/or imaginative state. There's a reason Pisces can often be guilty of falling in love with fictional people, for them, there's no boundary when it comes to what they consume. Their exceptional imaginative powers can cause intense bodily/or emotional reactions that can overwhelm rational thought and observation if they don't have any other placements to anchor it down. These are probably the people who hate gore, or like watching it (depends on other placements), because they can literally FEEL what the characters in the horror/gore setting are feeling, their skin crawls when those scenes are imagined or seen. Also, to add onto this, their emotional states can change completely if they think/daydream/imagine certain situations. There's a reason they need to shut away from people, it can get intense, their ability to literally be in other people's (fictional or real) shoe is unreal.
💜 Gemini, and the placements, honestly don't need the kind of bashing and negativity they often face like, it's enough that they're mutable air - in a constant flux of learning, adapting, understanding, and losing themselves - and having difficulty with knowing who they are, what their actual thoughts are, having an identity crisis every week because they stand in the extremes of two end and society has only convinent boxes to fill, they don't need the extra shit to constantly doubt themselves again. They're going through this constant process of learning about themselves through what they can learn from around them, they can feel like they often have to wear masks just to fit in. Just to be able to talk with people from different walks. Because society is always going to have stereotypes and preconceived ideas, because society can't accept that two sides of the coin can exist at once, how dare do people just try to assume who they are without even taking effort to get to know them? Geminis put so much effort in learning and trying to understand about things around them, it's just unfair that they get pushed into a convinent box, as if their personality - in its beautifully varied variety - is too much for people.
🖤 Capricorn placements/Saturn influence can have trouble with feeling things. Well, you'd probably scoff and say duh, but you don't realize the extent of lacking emotions can be like for them - in their darkest times, they are often void and empty, in their attempt to feel something, anything, they can reach for intense measures once it's too much, they're good at not letting emotions get in their path in everyday situation but the hardships they go through can even break down the strongest of wills. Often, feeling alive, or feeling anything, even to some extent - pain, can be their way to "cope", they're not robots. How can you expect them to continously be disciplined and perfect all the time? Do you even know how suffocating it is?
♥️ Virgo. I can say a lot about Virgos. But I've noticed this for a while now, Virgos tend to attract a lot more criticism than praise. Depends on the planets & house placement of course, but the effort Virgo puts, in maintaining and caring about the details when no one would? When they neglect themselves to give and service themselves to others? When they worry about things no one cares to? They put effort, they drive themselves to their bone to make it perfect but it always feels like it isn't enough, doesn't it? Like... you're not enough. I'm sorry that this world treats your work, your effort, like this. I want you to know, that you have made a difference, you have always made a difference and even if it feels like things can never be enough - you don't realize how beautiful it is, the way you care, the way you put the effort in, the way you think. Thank you for existing, it wouldn't be the same without you.
I ended up ranting about all of the earth & air signs, lol, whoops. I'd love to see if this resonates!

Astrology Observation ✨
This is my first time writing this and consider this more of a fun observation rather than anything too detailed (feel free to correct me, I’m still in the process of learning)!
✨ Tight Uranus aspects to either the ascendant, sun or moon can definitely give the “Not Like Other Girls” energy, individuals with this aspect often feel like they need to go against the norm or they’re perceived as weird or unusual in one way or the other. Only after they realizing that they can be original and authentic in just existing and living normally, they’ll feel less inclined to be pressured by a need to be perceived as eccentric or being seen as an outsider in one’s inner circles. (You are naturally weird in your own way, don’t worry about it❤)
✨ Some asexual placements I’ve notice; Saturn in 8th, Weak Mars being aspected by Saturn (or Mars being aspected by Saturn in general), Chiron conjunct Mars.
✨ Mars in 3rd house tend to have a naturally low ended or deeper voices, the true influence of Mars perhaps can probably be seen more prominently during fits of rage - when their voices get so loud and low that it almost gets reduced to an intangible growl.
✨ Also, they have a tendency to appear forthcoming or aggressive even if they’re speaking normally or without intending to.
✨ Virgo and Pisces are probably the sister signs that truly need each other in their life. Due to being the highest point of material and spiritual side respectively, there is a stubborn tendency in both that almost refuses to learn beyond their ways. In a way, they can complement each other by caring about the things that the other tends to neglect (plus both of these signs care so much more about other people than themselves sometimes, I swear). Of course, if they can stand each other’s presence lmao, because, for it to work, they must realize that it’s a fool’s errand to try to change the other.
✨ I’ve seen this in 8th house placements but generally 8H suns tend to prefer lower light settings, or places/time-frame when the natural light is close to dim. This is because the sun(also a signifactor of the body) is lurking in the depths of the 8th house and generally hates being forced into bright places or spotlights. Also they look better in lower light settings or dark colours :3
✨ Venus in 6th house is the ultimate “I’ll love you through etching each and every part of you in my memory, under my fingertips, any flaw and quirk, I’ll keep it in my heart and cherish it forever” placement.
✨ Fire signs have a tendency to like people similar to them (naturally similar, if they feel like the other person is faking it, that’ll turn them off), especially Aries and Leo.
✨ 8th house Moons and their obsession with using death as a comfort, lmao.
✨ Mars-Moon aspects, especially conjunction, always has that “aggression shimmering under the surface” vibe. You’ll accidentally get into debates with this person even when you’re conversing normally and it might end with them getting aggressive with their voice to the point of the conversation/topic just ends up in a dead-end.
✨ Aquarius suns have great hair! Usually, there’s like, a fluffy and/or thickness to them. There’s definitely something unique about them, though.
✨ 11th/10th house stelliums always have a strange sort of problem in their childhood, like they’re behind in what is averagely expected from a child their age. The truth is, these planets take a bit more time to mature and people usually don’t have patience to wait for that.
✨ Also, they tend to tan very easily! If they don’t naturally have a darker skin colour already.
✨ Okay but have you seen a Pisces Venus conjunct mercury sing? Their voice is goddamn angelic.

Let me clear this up for you:
Since no one seems to understand. Time to rant.
CONCEPT OF KARMA
I absolutely hate how western practitioners have twisted the meaning and bastardised it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not completely rooted in my roots and I’m not an extreme traditionalist but people using the concept of karma by first misunderstanding its foundations and then using it to justify horrendous shit is unbelievable. Which then, leads to people trying to divorce karma from its associations.
Okay, let’s just break it down. Idk how they just reduced Karma as “what goes around, comes around” & treated it like a cause and effect deal, because it isn’t. Using Karma to justify suffering and oppression was NEVER it’s original purpose. Looking through Hinduism & Vedic teachings, Karma is a law that human in the centre of responsibility, in every way, shape and form. There is a reason Karma is tied with Saturn (Shani), the God of Karma, Justice and Retribution, and ANY astrologer can tell you how Saturn operates in similar principal. Karma doesn’t teach people to shut up & suffer because they deserve it. Karma says that the cycles that exist are created by and through humans, their suffering & good fortune accordingly and by virtue, it is in their hands and will alone on how they want to cultivate their actions.
It DOESN’T discount systematic oppression.
It DOESN’T tell you to sit on your hands and suffer because it’s your fault.
It DOESN’T tell you that you’ll get good things after suffering.
What Karma does is present you with the situation of your life, then waits and watches what YOU choose to do with it, how YOU work or manage it. Ultimately, being tied to Saturn, it expects you to take responsibility on creating your own situation.
And no, I’m not saying this in the way that the way people are, and how they’re suffering is because they somehow “were a bad person in their previous life, etc etc”, I’m saying that it acknowledges that people have different situations & personal suffering, yes, a LOT of things in life are fundamentally difficult but you need to understand, the planets or the gods didn’t create suffering on such a global scale, it was ultimately humans/men themselves that perpetuated and continued the cycle of suffering, and it is, ultimately, in our hands to make it better or worse. Karma treats everyone equally this sense, but it is very difficult to understand this if you don’t realise that the concept of Karma is deeply tied with cycles, especially as Hinduism treats time as a cycle itself, and often times people really can’t and don’t have the knowledge of comprehending anything but their own/current life while they’re alive.
Karma isn’t an immediate slap in the face (unless you have those placements that make it so) as you know, the GOD OF KARMA is literally called the slowest/slow moving planet and is symbolised by a tortoise, the effects of your Karma accumulate and thus it usually manifests in the various cycle of lifes. I understand that western practitioners or those growing up with largely Christian themes/society can’t understand because we don’t have a definite “end”, the only “end” that comes from cycles of reincarnation is through burning the ties of Karma and liberating the soul. There are three types of Karma:
1. Sanchita karma, the sum total of past karmas yet to be resolved. 2. Prarabdha karma, that portion of sanchita karma that is to be experienced in this life. 3. Kriyamana karma, the karma that humans are currently creating, which will bear fruit in future.
There are some things in life you can’t control, there are also things in life that you can control. Karma is a continuous cycle until you achieve moksha, which is the ultimate goal of liberation.
Hinduism/The Vedas has recognised and understood the way the Law of Karma works, that’s one of the main reasons Dharma was made one of the aims of life, the act of good deeds, performing proper responsibilities & personality that ultimately gears you towards attaining (good)karma that will make it easier for you to pursue the other “Purusartha” aka aims of life, and of course, the path towards liberation in general.
From this perspective, we see life as fundamentally connected with everything, including people, action, deeds, nature, planets, the universe etc etc, Karma is just a law that explains one part of such. Astrology has always been one of the main tools used to deeply study the bond between the planets and a human existence (soul & body), one of the main reason Karmic Astrology exists is because the intrinsic ties our existence has with different elements of life, and of course, the soul that has & will be going through everything. Now that you’re in the end of this post, I hope you never misuse the concept of “Karma” because I’m going to arrive there with Saturn to slap a bitch.

The Avengers vs. Proust
I’m trying to wake my muse the hell up so I’ve forced my self to write something, anything and this is what came out.
Warnings: None really, some language
Genre: Humor, Vignette
Word Count: 4k
Summary: In this collection based on the famous Proust Questionnaire; Earth’s mightiest heroes wax philosophic about virtue, ponder politics and wonder whether watching the last season of Game of Thrones is truly the lowest depth of misery.

Thor
What is your greatest Achievement?
Being worthy of wielding Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.
What is your greatest fear?
While it does not do to dwell on things beyond one's control, I have been guilty of wondering after worst case scenarios.
What is your current state of mind?
Largely contented, but ever vigilant.
What is your greatest regret?
Hawkeye introducing me to the dining establishment called Chipotle.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Basking in the peace across The Nine Realms whilst feasting upon my favourite boxed toaster pastries that exist solely in Midgard.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
My official answer is a quote from your Realm's preeminent Bard:
"Virtue itself turns vice being misapplied; and vice sometimes by action dignified."
My unofficial answer, however is temperance.
What is it that you most dislike?
Deception. Particularly when it leads to the exploitation of or violence against the most vulnerable of us.
What is your greatest extravagance?
The vast stockpiles of mead and other such libation from across The Realms that Asgard's Royal cellars play host to.
Who is your hero of fiction?
I have been made privy to many a heroic tale in my time, but I've recently come across two characters of Midgarian literature who have left a lasting impression. The first being the hero Link and his many undertakings in your legend of Zelda. The second- Samwise Gamgee, who through neither wit nor brawn, but brotherly love and devotion saved the realm of Middle Earth; perhaps even more so than his friend, Frodo.
Who are your heroes of real life?
The Valkyrie. Alas, I do not meet the base requirements to join these elite warriors. Perhaps I should note that as my greatest regret.
What is your most marked characteristic?
My vanity would mark my stature, but in truth my volume and diction have been remarked on with some frequency. Usually in hushed tones.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
It would be an odd instance indeed that I would find myself wanting, in character or build.
What do you most dislike about your appearance?
Am I not a worthy specimen? Has someone expressed displeasure at my countenance?
Which quality do you most like in a man?
A true and stout heart is all one could ask of any.
Which quality do you most like in a woman?
Verily, I hold the fairer sex to the same standard.
What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
A rapturous tale ended poorly and in haste. To this very day, I still commiserate with my shield brothers on the fate of The Mother of Dragons. The outrage for that televised play reached as far as Anaheim at its peak. I doubt anyone there will trust my recommendations on entertainment again.
What trait do you most deplore in others?
Cruelty and indifference.
What trait do you most deplore in yourself?
I am not always proud of my sudden bouts of rashness.
Which living person do you most despise?
I do not tend to harbor ill will for any very long.
Which living person do you most admire?
Dr. Jane Foster.
What is your most treasured possession?
The trust and respect of those I fight alongside.
What is your favorite journey?
The familiar splendor and awe of my travels across the Bifrost.
When and where were you happiest?
After any battle well fought and won.
Which talent would you most like to have?
The idea of wielding any axe proficiently, musical or otherwise, is always appealing.
On what occasion do you lie?
Deceitfulness is usually not to be bourne, but sometimes, when used without malice it can lessen the blow of hard truths.
If you were to die and come back as any person or thing, what do you think it would it be?
I do not know of any who have returned to the land of the living from Valhalla, and I do not believe I would like to be the first.
Who are your favorite writers?
Contrary to my brother's prevailing beliefs about my intellectual prowess, I am quite fond of varied genres of literature. Mainly mythology. The caveat being that before these tales are put to parchment, the content usually begins as oral tradition- meaning the names of original 'authors' are lost to time. This is as true in Asgard as it is anywhere on Yggdrasil.
I find Midgardian accounts of my exploits in their myths exceedingly amusing!
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
Bor Burison.
Who or what is the greatest love of your life?
My People. Asgard.
What are your favorite names?

Author’s Note:  Even with my love of mythology, out of all of the Avengers, I was the most prepared to write Thor off. He just seemed a tad much, but he grew on me. That seems to be somewhat of a pattern with me. I come around to characters I don't instantly appreciate when I see them through the eyes of my mutuals. It's through fan art and fics that I started to 'get' Thor. Or rather there are so many versions varying in nuance that I could find a version I enjoyed and was compelled by. I got a kick out of writing for Thor in this piece. The natural cadence of his speech lends itself to comedy, so I couldn't help but lean into his natural absurdity. I hope I distilled his essence in this piece to all of you guys' approval.

Its been too long since I read the books and last time I saw the movies I was on denethor is a dick to my baby, let the man die. However, now I'm curious, since I remembered for instance that in the books he was devastated when he thought faramir died and your last reblog about that made me rethink my whole stance. Could you give me more positive denethor moments, or do I have to read the books again?
God I- I need so much for you all to understand how much I love asks like this, for PURELY selfish reasons, I just LOVE the idea of people like... doing what I do! Which is think about lotr and it’s characters and consider them in new angles and have fun with that! I feel connection and love in this chili’s tonight- ANYWAY.
To be clear, Denethor is one of my favourite characters, like JUST below Boromir in how much I love him and how furious I am with his portrayal in the films. I have a tag for him here that has a lot of good posts all about it. But positive moments for Denethor, yes ok! Lets start with my favourite quote from Denethor because it completely encompasses his- literally his ENTIRE book character;
In what is left, let all who fight the Enemy in their fashion be at one, and keep hope while they may, and after hope still the hardihood to die free.
Do you feel all the love and pride in his people and all the folk of middle earth who’re resisting this seemingly impossible threat? Even unto their inevitable end? Do you see the inherent belief that this is an unwinnable war, and yet how Denethor has remained Gondor’s greatest and most stalwart defender for all these years? GOD I do- ‘dying free’ is a VERY important sentiment that also puts a lot of his later, seemingly ‘mad’, actions into a much more understandable light. BUT I WILL TRY to not make this too much of a dissertation, god willing. SO! Onto Pippin’s swearing!
'Little service, no doubt, will so great a lord of Men think to find in a hobbit, a halfling from the northern Shire; yet such as it is, I will offer it, in payment of my debt.' Twitching aside his grey cloak, Pippin drew forth his small sword and laid it at Denethor's feet.
A pale smile, like a gleam of cold sun on a winter's evening, passed over the old man's face; but he bent his head and held out his hand, laying the shards of the horn aside. 'Give me the weapon!' he said. Pippin lifted it and presented the hilt to him. 'Whence came this?' said Denethor. 'Many, many years lie on it. Surely this is a blade wrought by our own kindred in the North in the deep past?'
'It came out of the mounds that lie on the borders of my country,' said Pippin. 'But only evil wights dwell there now, and I will not willingly tell more of them.'
'I see that strange tales are woven about you,' said Denethor, 'and once again it is shown that looks may belie the man – or the halfling. I accept your service. For you are not daunted by words; and you have courteous speech, strange though the sound of it may be to us in the South. And we shall have need of all folk of courtesy, be they great or small, in the days to come.’
The film really had no idea what to do with Pippin offering his service to Denethor as- well essentially an acknowledgement and an honouring of Boromir’s sacrifice for him. Because the Denethor in the film would have scorned it, but it’s an important plot point, so it’s just kinda in there awkwardly and uncomfortably. This is because Denethor genuinely appreciates Pippin’s gesture, his son died for this hobbit! But Pippin is fervent and honest and Denethor can tell! Denethor is grateful, he empathises! These are not traits film!denethor possessed, so we get the.... tomato... scene.... BUT ONWARDS, I consider this a positive scene, simply because Denethor and Gandalf’s rivalry in the books is just so much FUNNIER and interesting than in the films;
'And you, my Lord Mithrandir, shall come too, as and when you will. None shall hinder your coming to me at any time, save only in my brief hours of sleep. Let your wrath at an old man's folly run off and then return to my comfort!'
'Folly?' said Gandalf. 'Nay, my lord, when you are a dotard you will die. You can use even your grief as a cloak. Do you think that I do not understand your purpose in questioning for an hour one who knows the least, while I sit by?'
'If you understand it, then be content,' returned Denethor. 'Pride would be folly that disdained help and counsel at need; but you deal out such gifts according to your own designs. Yet the Lord of Gondor is not to be made the tool of other men's purposes, however worthy. And to him there is no purpose higher in the world as it now stands than the good of Gondor; and the rule of Gondor, my lord, is mine and no other man's, unless the king should come again.'
LIKE. IT’S FUNNY! Essentially Denethor’s like ‘oh ho I’m just an auld man dont be angry with me Gandy’ and Gandalf’s like ‘Denethor when you are ENFEEBLED by age you will DIE out of spite alone’ and Denethor’s like ‘OH FINE if you want to be that way, but you’re bloody annoying to deal with and I don’t TRUST you wholly so DEAL with it,’ And again we get Denethor’s like whole deal! Gondor is what he is here to defend! It’s his entire purpose in life! He doesn’t trust that Gandalf’s not going to use him for his own ends to the detriment of Gondor itself, which Gandalf LITERALLY admits he’d do in the next paragraph. Because he says ‘he’s the steward of everything, not just gondor’ which on the one hand is like, yeah, we get that, but you can understand Denethor’s perspective too. WHICH IS. GOOD CHARACTERISATION FOLKS!
'[Osgiliath] was 'It was a city,' said Beregond, 'the chief city of Gondor, of which this was only a fortress. For that is the ruin of Osgiliath on either side of Anduin, which our enemies took and burned long ago. Yet we won it back in the days of the youth of Denethor: not to dwell in, but to hold as an outpost, and to rebuild the bridge for the passage of our arms.a city,' said Beregond, 'the chief city of Gondor, of which this was only a fortress. For that is the ruin of Osgiliath on either side of Anduin, which our enemies took and burned long ago. Yet we won it back in the days of the youth of Denethor: not to dwell in, but to hold as an outpost, and to rebuild the bridge for the passage of our arms.’
This is just like a little thing but I think it’s just kinda important to emphasise that Denethor wasn’t just a politician, he bled heavily for Gondor’s safety too and the retaking of Osgiliath was an incredibly important victory that Denethor achieved for Gondor’s safety as a whole. Anyway SPEAKING of the tomato scene- god this really does entirely emphasise the difference between Film!Denethor and Book!Denethor;
‘Can you sing?'
Yes,' said Pippin. 'Well, yes, well enough for my own people. But we have no songs fit for great halls and evil times, lord. We seldom sing of anything more terrible than wind or rain. And most of my songs are about things that make us laugh; or about food and drink, of course.'
'And why should such songs be unfit for my halls, or for such hours as these? We who have lived long under the Shadow may surely listen to echoes from a land untroubled by it? Then we may feel that our vigil was not fruitless, though it may have been thankless.'
In the end Pipping doesn’t sing for him but like?? Look SEE LIKE. It’s not MEAN, Denethor is in general sardonic and kinda harsh and frustrating in tone but he’s not dismissive or uncharitable or heartless; he’s interested, he likes TALKING to Pippin, he likes to hear about the world! Songs about food and drink and weather are fine! Of course they have merit!
'Not – the Dark Lord?' cried Pippin, forgetting his place in his terror. Denethor laughed bitterly. 'Nay, not yet, Master Peregrin! He will not come save only to triumph over me when all is won. He uses others as his weapons. So do all great lords, if they are wise, Master Halfling. Or why should I sit here in my tower and think, and watch, and wait, spending even my sons? For I can still wield a brand.'
Do you hEAR the bitterness in these lines? How he has to SIT here and WAIT as he sends his loved ones to die- but he has too, he HAS to do this, it’s not new, he’s been sending his sons to their probably deaths for years, and god he wishes he could be a reckless man and just ride out himself again but there IS no one to step into his place if he should be lost and Gondor just can’t take that! IT’S cOMPELLING. And so... now we’ll end on the part you mentioned, which really is like... AGONISING, it’s heartbreaking, especially after Denethor’s manners and character up until this point, sharp, sardonic, dauntless, uncowed by ever new loss, every new defeat, Boromir’s death even did not crack him completely but now-
And as [Pippin] watched, it seemed to him that Denethor grew old before his eyes, as if something had snapped in his proud will, and his stern mind was overthrown. Grief maybe had wrought it, and remorse. He saw tears on that once tearless face, more unbearable than wrath.
'Do not weep, lord,' he stammered. 'Perhaps he will get well. Have you asked Gandalf?'
'Comfort me not with wizards!' said Denethor. 'The fool's hope has failed. The Enemy has found it, and now his power waxes; he sees our very thoughts, and all we do is ruinous.
'I sent my son forth, unthanked, unblessed, out into needless peril, and here he lies with poison in his veins. Nay, nay, whatever may now betide in war, my line too is ending, even the House of the Stewards has failed. Mean folk shall rule the last remnant of the Kings of Men, lurking in the hills until all are hounded out.'
Men came to the door crying for the Lord of the City. 'Nay, I will not come down,' he said. 'I must stay beside my son. He might still speak before the end. But that is near. Follow whom you will, even the Grey Fool, though his hope has failed. Here I stay.'
I’ll NEVER forgive the appropriation of the ‘my line is ending’ line, he doesn’t MEAN that he’s grieving the loss of his lineage, he’s grieving the loss of his WHOLE COUNTRY, of his people! As well as his son! And in this final moment with him his priorities of heart surface, where his people are banging desperately at his door, begging for their Lord to come to their aide, he refuses, because Faramir is far more important to him in this moment.
I said I wasn’t going to make this a dissertation but WHATEVER, there you are anon, hope it’s what you wanted than thANK YOU AGAIN for the ask :)

All right, all right. I have a thing that’s going on and I’m frankly not sure what it is or where it goes or what it means. I need some help and I decided to at least give Tumblr a try, hoping beyond all hope, someone will say something either in passing or otherwise that will connect the dots.
I’m going to put this under a cut because I don’t know how long it’s going to get and I know how frustrating it can be to have a really long post cluttering up your dash. What I am asking is that if you, yourself, have nothing to add to this or can offer nothing in the way of advice or commentary to please reblog this so that the post can get around to the correct person or persons who can, maybe, say something that will help me to connect these dots.
Here goes...
My ancestor veneration is woven thick with various elements from various paradigms that, probably, don’t sound like they would meld together well. But they do. The practice itself is a mix of Kemetic rituals, honoring the Wheel of the Year (ASCII SHRUG), and Catholic or Methodist beliefs/prayers/elements that kind of all meld together into a giant “wtf” if you’re an outsider looking in. In the middle of all of this is Osiris, who joined up what I was already doing on the ancestor front about five months ago because, well, that’s just always what was going to happen.
There’s the background.
Recently, this post passed across my dash a shit-ton of times. I found it kind of funny and hilarious because it appeared for the first time around the start of the Osiris Mysteries (what are those? Here’s some info). I got a kick out of it and went to add it to my queue to be spit out at some unknown time later when I got the distinct impression of Osiris, in gingerbread cookie form, broken up into fourteen pieces and ready to be eaten.
Now, not to start Cookiegate 2019 (what the hell is that? Here you go) but I found the image both disturbing and compelling. It was disturbing because I, too, dislike the idea of gods cut up as foodstuffs. It seems like bad heka to do that and take pictures of it (obviously, I don’t include the ritualistic slaying of A/pep into this because that’s good heka) and have a good laugh about it. But it’s not the first time that I’ve caught images of O in that way, though I’ve been able to shake off every previous iteration. This time, I couldn’t, or can’t really.
I found it compelling because of a very old post about offerings that I had found recently. I’m going to specifically quote the bit that connected this all a bit together and then link to the post itself:
“The circular flow of life from god to king/Egypt to god and back again prevented the cosmos from winding down. Offerings were more than gift giving; they were reciprocal creation. … Most offerings symbolized and were a part of the self of god; most offerings also symbolized and were a part of the selves of the donor and the officiant. Offerings symbolized the donor and the donor’s desire to bridge the worlds of god and humankind. … But there must have been religious as well as socioeconomic meaning to partaking of god’s food, particularly since the food symbolized life, order, the self of god, and the selves of donor and officiant. Those Egyptians sharing in the food must have experienced a sense of privileged communion with god and king that shaped their ritualized bodies and enhanced their feelings of unity, efficacy, and power. (Shafer, 25) (Linky-loo.)
Why this quote and none of the others in the post itself? I couldn’t say in all honesty. But it was the quote from Shafer, more than anything else, that came up and smacked me between the eyes.
After mulling on all of this cookie form stuff, my thoughts immediately went to that phrase that one hears during the Sacrament of the Eucharist, however in English versus the Latin: “Take this, all of you, and eat of it: for this is my body which will be given up for you.” It’s not quite so different from the Methodist version, which is “the body of Christ, given for you” while communion is taking place. It’s not weird that my mind went here; in what other religions that I have some familiarity with are we going to get a clear view of eating one’s god?
I got thrown off by all of this because, well, Zeitgeist. That old bullshit that crops up every year to “show” us Kemetics how Horus is really Jesus or their related in some idiotic way. I wasn’t necessarily equating Osiris with Jesus Christ, but I could see the similarities. And I, for one, really despise comparative theology or mythology or whatever the fuck it’s called. I find it disingenuous and frankly rude. So I packed all of this nonsense away and swore I’d look at it later.
Later showed up in a very short order, of course, because if something is Important then I can’t put it away for long. When TTR’s post came out about what they would be doing for the Osiris Mysteries, I kind of came back to that cookie idea, the idea of eating one’s gods, and trying to make sense of it all.
When TTR and I kick the tires on things, we sometimes get off topic and end up talking about health quite a bit. Due to the issues they’ve faced over the years, they’ve found out a lot about how important digestive health is to the overall health of a person.
I found myself wondering if the eating of one’s gods, specifically the god related to rebirth and growing things and rejuvenation and fertility, would be a good way to get your body in shape to bring ma’at into your life more easily, more capably, and in turn, bring it into the world at large. (Guess what? There’s a related TTR post on that one too!)
But again, I find myself disturbed and annoyed by all of this. Osiris isn’t saying because he never does, per usual. It’s not his way although I would really prefer it if it was his way for five fucking minutes. He pushes in little bits, but he never comes right out and says it. (Who needs clear and concise directions, am I right?) He gives me stupid little episodes like this to pull at threads, to figure out where this is going, and to come back to him to see if I have it right.
I feel a bit like I’m putting together a puzzle but I’m only being given five to six pieces at a go until I manage to put them together with the few pieces I’ve already fitted together before I get the next series of pieces.
Why the Sacrament of the Eucharist/Communion? Why should we eat our gods? Why should Osiris want this to be a thing with me?
I can whip up a giant gingerbread cookie today (and I have all the ingredients since I made gingerbread earlier this week) and get to eating him if that’s what he wants. But I don’t think that’s all it is. And I’m hoping someone some way will say something that kind of hits home or helps me to get another one of the puzzle pieces onto the partially built puzzle on the table.
Thank you for coming to my idfk what’s going on, and thanks for either commenting with your thoughts or reblogging so someone else can comment with their thoughts.

Mel made yet again a fanastic analysis re: Tyrande and I felt compelled to add to this because she went right to the problem of it all and what I want to add would just kill the window and I uhh feel weird about reblogging lol
The problem with the entire Horde storyline and it repeating itself again and again and again is that it’s being blamed on a leader. I mentioned previously that it’s easy for everyone to look for Sylvanas as the scapegoat and while she has done atrocious things, most of the Horde was fairly enthusiastic about all of it and aside from some “BUT THE HONOUR” whining from Saurfang, the didn’t do shit.  Now if this was the first time happening, it would be wrong blaming the entire Horde for it, but it’s basically on what it’s founded, Saurfang even says so himself and dumbass Anduin says no, because he deludes himself into believing that the Horde is better than that. Kinda like going back to an abusive ex who hits you but they’re being sad and nice occasionally. It’s THIS cycle that the Horde repeats; committing atrocities because a leader says so, then noticing that the very same leader can also come for their own asses, and then it’s suddenly “I don’t know them anymore, they’ve changed! THERE IS NO HONOUR IN THIS!” And there are so many honourable people in the Horde! What’s that quote?  “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”  And they didn’t do shit until Baine was imprisoned, and that were only the leaders. For the people itself, it’s mostly “Yeah but x made me do it.” There will never be any consequences for the Horde, because they magically keep winning. And so the cycle will never be broken. That’s the cycle. That has always been the cycle. Because the Horde are the true heroes with all their edgy bullshit and the Alliance are the good nice and kind additions to their story, and when you have a character with legitimate anger and desire for vengeance, like Tyrande, they’re fridged, deemed unreasonable or have a magical change of reasoning because big orc sad.
It’s believable if you look at Thrall’s New Horde, just a bunch of hunted misfits who want to find their place in the world. But they still claim that label on a meta-level, and this getting inforced by Anduin who is a KID who still clings to that. Honestly I CRAVE Alliance infighting. I want people getting angry at Anduin for helping the Horde ONCE AGAIN but leaving his own people behind under the mantle of desiring to end a war that will come again with another Warchief that has been “corrupted” and “made evil”. Or give me a third neutral “tired of both sides’ bullshit” faction.

“THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!”
“Not a demon, Roman. We’ve been over this....” Logan sighed and turned a page in his book. If he focused hard enough, he could ignore the crucifix being obnoxiously pressed against his scalp.
Roman shook his head. “Aha! But you see, Logan Blair-”
“Fair reference.”
“-this time I have come prepared! For a hero is not so easily dissuaded from his civic duties!” Roman went so far as to pose, tossing the useless crucifix aside with a flourish. How it managed to fly out the window was beyond Logan, but the yowl of a disturbed cat confirmed his peripheral was not wrong.
M̧͟m̡̀͝m,̧ ̸͟cáţ́.̵̡̀
Oh no. We are not eating a cat, do you hear me? That rat you snapped up while I was sleeping was bad enough. I didn’t even know human were capable of coughing up a hairball....
Í ̢hųņ͏ge̷͢r̴͘͟.̢
Yes, well, then I’ll go fetch us some bagels like a normal human being.
Logan closed his book and straightened his glasses, fully aware he’d been tuning out Roman’s gallivanting while hosting the silent conversation with his... not-so-better half. Was it even a half? Logan wasn’t certain how best to mathematically describe their connection. Perhaps he could ponder it over their snack-
He was abruptly reminded of Roman’s presence when a finger came to rest in front of his face, pointed directly between his eyes and practically touching his nose. Grey eyes followed the line of Roman’s arm to his roommate’s own set of dazzling, determined green.
“Lord Hanuman!”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Lord Hanuman!”
“Is this another obscure musical reference?” Logan gently pushed Roman’s arm aside with a fingertip and strode to the kitchen, leaving the man sputtering in his wake. “Perhaps you should stick to movies-”
“It’s a Hindu practice!” Roman snapped, indignant and now flustered as he (unfortunately) trailed after Logan; stubborn as ever, it seemed. “I researched online; saying his name is supposed to make demons and devils tremble with fear!”
“Not a demon,” Logan intoned with all the enthusiasm of the economics teacher from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. He began scouring the cupboards for those elusive bagels, wondering if Patton had gone and consumed all the miniature ones again. (Logan liked those.)
“I thought you might say that-”
“I said it five minutes ago.”
“-so I took it upon myself to bring out the big guns! Have at you, foul de- er, whatever you are!” There was a glint, as Roman slipped something shiny from his pocket.
A soft hiss, a bit of cool mist, and suddenly Logan’s nose was scrunching up with obvious distaste. Even the horror inside him retched at the smell. “Cologne? That’s your ‘big gun’?” Logan performed some air quotes before returning to the task at hand, claiming the last two mini-bagels for himself. Sweet, sweet victory.
Roman snuffed. “Part of an Islamic exorcism is to use perfume. Since you so staunchly claim it’s not a demon, maybe black magic is afoot!”
“So you decided to attempt dousing me with your cologne?” Logan quirked a brow, taking a slow bite from one half of a mini-bagel. He maintained eye contact with Roman on purpose while he did so, relishing the man’s immediate disgust.
“Good lord, man, if you’re not going to cheese it then at least toast the bread, I beg of you!” Roman cringed away, horrified and hoisting up his bottle of cologne as if it could ward off Logan’s “odd” eating habits.
Logan licked a bit of crumbs from his lips. “No.” He proceeded to eat the bagel while Roman fumbled about, cursing softly under his breath.
“What was next, what was next? The Jewish one, right? One of these has to work, that’s how it is in media, you just keep trying techniques until one sticks...” Roman mumbled to himself, grimaced when Logan picked up the other half of the mini-bagel, and decided to act. With a sharp cry he stepped forward, throwing out his hand to smite the bit of baked good to the floor.
It was Logan’s turn to sputter as he gaped at Roman, stunned and wide-eyed, hand still half-raised to his open mouth. “Roman!” He glanced to his fallen sustenance before returning an accusatory expression to the other. “What on Earth-”
“Sacrifice!” Roman pointed at the mini-bagel, looking torn yet triumphant. “In Judaism it says a sacrifice can be made to expel the horrible spirit!”
Logan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Roman, that’s not-”
“Look it was sacrifice or poisoning you, and I don’t think either Patton or Virgil would let me live that one down-”
“You were contemplating poison?”
“Not really! Just as a backup, maybe- look, perhaps I shouldn’t have relied on Wikipedia for my research material...”
“Oh, you think so?”
The front door opened and shut, two pairs of footsteps tromping closer before the remaining two occupants of their shared apartment rounded the corner. Patton and Virgil were loaded down with shopping bags, though whatever pleasant conversation they’d been carrying was cut short as they practically felt the tension in the room.
“Uh, why’s Logan glowing again?” Virgil was the first to pipe up.
Logan frowned, glanced down at his hands and then mentally cursed. He shook off the black aura which had begun pooling and wriggling around him with an irritated huff.
Patton was frowning as well, but with more concern as he stepped closer. “Loganberry? You doin’ okay, sport?” A hint of his Southern accent made itself known, as it was wont to do whenever Patton drifted into more tender speech.
It still managed to make Logan’s heart act irregularly, and he looked pointedly away. “Besides Roman trying to poison me? I’m fine.” Roman’s aghast, betrayed look made all the coddling Patton was about to smother him with worth it. Virgil was on Roman in a heartbeat, finger wagging and all- he really was spending too much time around Patton. Patton, of course, immediately dropped his bags and inquired again about Logan’s health, joining in on Virgil’s scolding.
It wasn’t long until things managed to calm down, Roman thoroughly cowed but silently swearing his continued efforts to Logan via eye contact. It made Logan sigh, even as he helped Patton put away the groceries. Then Virgil’s voice, soft and inquisitive, reminded Logan of exactly why he’d been in the kitchen to begin with.
“So, what’s with the floor bagel?”

Consider this the first oneshot I guess? Still blaming @fangirltothefullest for this. I noticed tagging people in updates to works/AU’s is a pretty popular thing in this fandom, so... I guess if you want me to tag you in the next one, just mention in a reply or reblog comment? (Or shoot me an ask, I suppose. XD)
