How about Michael gives Adam a ring? He has no reason why he gave Adam a ring. He just saw a pretty ring and thought “Adam would look good in this” and bought it (that’s how rich he is).
Ring varies depending on the AU.
S2Adam: Assuming Sinner!Adam gets Pride Ring’s color scheme of red and black, the ring would be black with ruby red stones. Unfortunately, since he’s in hell, Adam doesn’t want anything to happen to the ring. It’s hidden but it’s always with him wherever he goes. If he’s feeling brave, the most he’ll wear the ring would be like a necklace.
Time Travel Adam: Ring is silver with a blue stone (Maybe Aquamarine? Sapphire? Or Lapis) and small white diamonds. Adam wears it all the time (another reason for the Royal Family allegations) on his left hand. Michael was the one to put it there though. I don’t think Michael knows what giving someone a ring and putting it on their left hand mean. Or maybe he does but Adam assumes he doesn’t. Either way, Adam never stopped Michael from doing so.
Your AltDimension Adam: The ring would be melted scraps of metal because it’s the most Michael could do in their messed up world. But he always kept an eye out for a beautiful stone. He was never able to find a gem though
That AltDimension made me tear up a bit. Only a bit. Wtf thats so cutee.
I would find it really romantic if Adam just let Michael put a ring on his finger. The rings have these small meanings that both Adam and Michael don't realize.
Michael understands the prospect of a good ring. Y'know all the necessary shit. Never ever tungsten. Gold, diamond, shit like that. The meaning behind each ring
Adam never had a ring. But he knows that it means marriage. But he'd be all like yeah whatever. Go ahead.
Frieren, a scene there was Frieren picking a random ring, not knowing its meaning and then Himmel immedietly knows and he kneels down to attach it to her ring finger.
It was so sweet and yeah. Idk

Alright, not to be too predictable, but I wanna talk about space and color as it's used in the intro to episode 1 for a minute. And you know, show some gorgeous space shots.
So we open in the dark. There's distant lights and the occasional flare from them moving through space but for the most part we get the angel that would eventually become Crowley alone in enough darkness that he himself isn't even giving off particularly significant amounts of light.
Tumblr media
But then, enter Aziraphale. He arrives in a big ball of blue light shining above him that really emphasizes Crowley's red hair. They get tied to the colors we most often see them attached to, especially in promotional materials.
Tumblr media
From here the entire scene gets slightly brighter, even once Aziraphale's light dims down. They're both lit up once they're together, even it the middle of literal nothingness.
Tumblr media
They start the universe next, using Crowley's hand crank, which gives off a magic that's a combination of their two colors - purple.
Tumblr media
A very similar color to this shows up in heaven as a signal flare for their accidentally too powerful half a miracle. It's a color tied to a miracle so big it could've revived someone 25 times and also a miracle that got the engine of the universe running.
Tumblr media
And then. Creation starts. Our first image is a very Heavenly aesthetic. It's a blueish light cutting through the clouds much like Az just cut through the dark.
Tumblr media
And what explodes from that is the thing that set me down this little rabbit hole in the first place: it's purple scattered through with red and blue lights.
Tumblr media
As the initial burst fades, the blue and the red separate, the color fading except for this tiny blue dot and this growing red zone on the right.
Tumblr media
The blue then fades, leaving us with an extremely Crowley coded palette here and a very orangeish red. There's shades of gray, a little bit of light, but not nearly as much color. As the sequence moves the darkness grows but does start slowly filling with small points of light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then end up with shades of gray both light and dark. There's balance here, even if it's not particularly colorful.
Tumblr media
And then all at once a pinkish red bursts forth with these intense clawing tendrils. At the core of it, from the heart of it, is a bright blue ball of light.
Tumblr media
It fades into a blue heart surrounded by darkness with whisps of white resembling a certain someone's hair. Or, as some friends pointed out two people embracing.
Tumblr media
As the nebula settles a few other colors set in but the primary scheme is still red and blue. An almost violent plume of red emerges on the left side of the image.
Tumblr media
And from this moment on most shots of the two of them back them with their respective color schemes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They chat and Aziraphale gets anxious. He looks for a distraction and is immediately drawn to the space where the colors mix.
Tumblr media
And as we fade out the other colors in the picture fade. We get the most balanced blue and red get. And on the far corners fairly clear dark and light.
Tumblr media
So what does this mean? The purple speaks to them being very powerful together. And, the rest is arguably just representative of the plot. We have Aziraphale as a beacon in the dark - a signal flare we know Crowley has throughout history been aware of and drawn to. We have them brightening each other. We have Az's color breaking out of heaven to mix with Crowley's to create something new and wonderful and powerful. Aziraphale's color fades, leaving Crowley alone. We then get a burst of a red closer to Crowley's current hair, with Aziraphale's blue in the core of it that eventually becomes a blue heart surrounded by darkness. That too fades, replaced by the pillars becoming their familiar hand shape and slightly more colors seeping in. As they talk together and move closer together their own colors settle back in and come to balance.

So you mean to tell me they completely removed k*t*angs first kiss and swapped Aang for Sokka in the Cave of Two Lovers…meanwhile, although the necklace and pirates subplots were also removed, they made Oma and Shus color scheme red and blue while adding that scarf scene?

WHITE RASHOMON TIME
The first time we ever see Akutagawa use rashomon on any other item of clothing except his black coat (in the main manga series), it's this scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He uses his shirt, which even Atsushi is surprised by because even if he knows it can happen, this is the first time he (and we the audience) has seen this happen.
And it's so important that rashomon is white in this situation. We all know the symbolism behind red = 'bad' and blue = 'good' (with nuance, since the port mafia has done good before), but black and white is also a significant color scheme. Atsushi's predominant colors are white because he is on the 'good' side, but he has black in his color scheme too because he has that dark past. Meanwhile Akutagawa is predominantly black, but he has some white in his color scheme. He's not pure evil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Beast universe leans into this color symbolism heavily, since Akutagawa's color scheme there isn't white but grey. Beast!Aku wasn't as 'good' as main universe Atsushi since he still has that darker mindset that he has to grow out of.
Tumblr media
WHICH BRINGS US BACK TO WHITE RASHOMON
The first time we see Akutagawa use Rashomon on any other clothing besides the black coat--the coat that Dazai gave to him as a welcome symbol into the Port Mafia-- he uses his white shirt. And the first time he uses a white rashomon, he didn't use it to attack. It was entirely to sacrifice himself and save Atsushi.
Akutagawa has saved Atsushi many times before obviously. Dragging him off the Moby Dick, working together during the cannibalism arc, etc. But in all those scenarios, he was never putting himself on the line to do it. He either had nothing to lose by saving Atsushi, or mutually benefited from it.
Tumblr media
But this time? He knew he was going to die, he knew what it meant, he never intended to be the survivor. And he did it anyway. Some people have theorized that this was still for personal reasons (that he believed this is how he proves his worth to Dazai) but it doesn't change the fact that this was an act purely of saving. It is so fitting that Rashomon was white at that moment.

There are two different versions of ATSV in theatres - and the only difference between them in Hobie Brown.
Okay ya'll I came across something so bizarre.
So I've seen Across the Spiderverse twice now, and my theatre was going to stop showing it this weekened - so I went to see it one more time.
Originally, I had seen version one. I knew there were two out there, but I had only heard of version 2. This time I saw it. And the ALL the differences has to do with Hobie Brown.
My man really hate consistency, I guess.
LOOK: This is the shot of Hobie saying 'I quit' that's most used. - THIS is version one
Tumblr media
But when I went this time, this is what I saw:
Tumblr media
THIS IS VERSION 2. (omggggggg!!!!)
As you can tell, instead of his normal colors - in this shot Hobie is a violet-pink instead, with a lot more texturing on his model.
And these are common throughout Hobie's screentime!
If you saw the top photo - you saw version one.
If you saw the bottom photo - you saw version two.
Chances are if you watched the movie early in it's release (first week or so), or you watched a fancam you have seen version 1.
I was able to capture most of the changes on camera - and it's kinda jarring to see but omg i find it so interesting!!!
I took photos of all the differences and compare them down below, including an explanation of why this happened.
Please let me know which version you saw, and when you saw the movie! Have you seen both versions? I'm so curious!
For the first half of Hobie's appearance the two version are entirely the same - except for what seems like either a different take or wording of his 'Gwendy, how much have you told him-' line. However, the changes begin at the end of Hobie's scene with Miles.
I spoke here about how in some versions Hobie says 'Don't enlist unless you know what war you're fighting', while others 'Don't enlist unless you know just who you're fighting'.
But the biggest differences are his last scene.
Last week I used THIS screencap that was taken from a Version 1 fancam. In it, Hobie is in full color:
Tumblr media
In Version 2, he's pink. Also - it's extremely faint in the photo, but if you look closer you can see there are also red spiderwebs behind the blue ones in Version 2:
Tumblr media
You can see his pink color better here:
Tumblr media
Later in the scene, Hobie changes colors. In Version 1, he maintains the same normal color scheme for the duration of the scene, however in Version 2 he's changing back and forth - even turning black and white at one point.
Version 1:
Tumblr media
Version 2:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And can I just say -
This is to show how Hobie is literally the only one in the room who is 1) Literally and physically 'in Miles' corner, (literally) standing 'in the right' - to the right of Miles,
and 2) the only one being honest to Miles (why he turns black and white, he also turns black and white while talking about Miles' parents.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the scene goes on, Hobie stays this color - which leads to one of my favorite differences:
His last shot.
In Version 1 - Hobie is white & black for one shot, as he says 'Here we go'. This is the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However - for version one, he returns to his natural color for his final line of the scene - 'Good'. And for Version 2, he turns purple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So why did this happen?
According to the ATSV there are two (and only two) versions that were released in US theatres. Version 1 was released when Sony shipped early copies to translators so they could translate the script for international viewing. The version sent was about 98% done, and made to give the translators a jumpstart prior to release.
However, that version ended up being released.
Afterwards they swapped it out with the full, correct version - Version 2.
It seems like Hobie wasn't meant to be natural colored for the duration of the Canon-Events scene, and that in the whole film, he was the final thing they were putting touches on.
There are other small changes in version 2 - including when Miguel calls for backup - in Version 1 Lyla points at Miguel, however in Version 2 she takes a selfie with him on a AI cell-phone.
In Version 1 - Miles says 'No, no no!' at Pavitrs chai scolding, and 'Sorry, sorry' in Version 2. There are other small adlibs, and they said they removed Gwen's voicelines when she was searching for Miles and the child in the rubble (?? don't know why).
I also think - and I DON'T KNOW, I haven't checked my recording but I did record it - I THINK the watercoloring in Gwen's scenes have different colors in some shots, or different strokes, but only subtly. It just looked more detailed and vibrant to me, but idk. But the trans colors remain completely untouched in every way.
However, it seems that your best and most obvious way of telling which version you saw is by looking at Hobie's lines and coloring in different scenes.
Mans really hates consistency, damn.
______________________________________________
Outside of some split-second shots and ablids, He's the only things that's largely changed, and when seeing it in the theatre today I was literally shocked as HELL. When he said 'eh, what of it?', I was like 'mfer WHY R U PINK'. I hadn't noticed until right then. But I'm literally over the moon I got to see both, I feel like I found something secret.
Maybe being Hobie obsessed and Neurodivergent pays off.
Oh - and here's two more shots that were also changed that I didn't get footage of. If you have a photo or footage of these shots from Version 2 - PLEASE post or send them to me. Thanks!
Version 1 - 'What of it?' / In Version 2 he is a BRIGHT pink color
Tumblr media
Version 1 - Standing behind Miles while talking to Miguel / In Version 2 he is black and white with newspaper around him (also doesnt he look so cute look at that slutty waist ugh)
Tumblr media
SO uhhhhh yeah Idk if anyone else finds this interesting but I DO and I enjoyed it so much and I WISH I could get better footage of Version 2.
Had I not watched his scenes everyday for weeks and wrote out a dissertation about every one of his lines I might not have noticed lol
If you're not normal about Hobie Brown and found this interesting like me, thanks! Let me know if you read this far and please tell me what version you saw and when you saw it! Ok thxs again bye :)

How colors make the Good Omens s2 credits split-screen scene even worse
Because that's a thing we need, right? But no, really, come with me on a magical, colorful journey of sadness and screenshots.
Season 2 of Good Omens leans into the coding of locations by color... I would say even more so than the first season. What do I mean by that?
I mean that Earth (and specifically the bookshop) is warm and colorful with reds, browns, yellows (yes Aziraphale, we see what you did there, it isn't exactly subtle to paint the walls the color of your boyfriend's eyes) and pops of blue.
Tumblr media
As an aside... You know what has a similar color scheme (with the saturation and vibrance turned up to 11)?
Tumblr media
On the other hand, Heaven is white and cold, with almost no color to speak of.
Tumblr media
And Hell is dark and grimy with a green overcast.
Tumblr media
See the contrast (also not subtle) between the Heaven and Hell coloration? The entire season is training our eyes to make those connections, and then when they drop the credits on us the show makers can divide and distance our heroes. Not only by the text crawl but also with some Hell/Heaven coloration... to really drive home the point of how far apart they are. Crowley is dark, in a slightly green tone. Aziraphale is light and drained of color.
Tumblr media
But wait Duck! (you say) Surely this is because Crowley is in the dark Bentley with his plants in the background. Well, yes, but LOOK at how the exact same split-screen shot is lit in the first episode. I swear I didn't edit either of these images a bit. Look how much brighter and warmer and less green Crowley looks. You can really see the green (or lack thereof) on the ceiling of the Bentley.
Tumblr media
My point is that this was a choice. The show makers chose violence by how they edited these images, pure and simple. (And it has nothing to do with dolphins)
From beyond a cinematography perspective to the meta can we say that this means Crowley is going to return to Hell like Aziraphale is returning to Heaven? I personally don't think so, I think he's just in his own individual hell here... but hey, we'll (hopefully) see!

Sword gays showdown, round 1 of bracket one
Propaganda:
For Sayaka Miki:
my favourite scene is the one where Sayaka turns off all her pain receptors to battle the shadow witch, uncaring of the damage dealt to her body, because what is a body but a decaying vessel you must eventually abandon anyway? that was very depression of her <3 Also there’s that one time (in the rebellion movie) where Sayaka stabs herself on her own sword to release the witch that dwells within her. and then she immediately gets up to fight back to back with her girlfriend. that moment lives rent free in my head. Sayaka is so depression and I love her for it:)
SHES SO GAY ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY SHE FLIRTS W THE MAIN CHARACTER HER NARRATIVE FOIL IS ANOTHER GIRL W TBE OPPOSITE COLOR SCHEME THEYRE RED BLUE LESBIAN MOMENT YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT ELSE ??? SHE COMES TO THIS FALSE REALITY LITERALLY JUST TO SEE HER GIRLFRIEND ALIVE THEY LIVE TOGETHER AND THERES A WHOLE OUTRO SEQUENCE JUST W THE TWO OF THEM SHE STUDIED THE GAY BLADE I STG also she uses a sword 🗡️ love u sayaka
For Wei Wuxian:
His signature weapon is a flute (which he can use to summon demons and ghosts) but he also studied the blade just like most characters in this setting. He's a bisexual ADHD icon who died twice and still came back to get his man.

Jaune The Black Knight
An AU where Jaune and Ruby decided to say Fuck the world, got married after going rogue (they left Beacon after being betrayed by their friends) and had a daughter together named Olivia.
Salem was watching everything through her Grimm and decided to personally invite them to join her faction in turn they will get their revenge. With nowhere else to go they accepted now Ruby leads a battalion of Grimm with Jaune as her Second in Command.
And yes Salem cares about these two adorkable couple and vowed to never let anyone hurt them ever again.
I have baffled long enough, let's get this show on the road.
This particular day Salem ordered for Ruby to get some needed rest after capturing a few villages in her name, Jaune got up from bed and got ready for another day of spreading fear around the world
He showered, brushed his teeth, puts on his black armor, his wife changed Crocea Mor's color scheme, instead of a white shield it's now black with a gold outline and their combined family symbol, instead of a blue hilt it's now blood red, instead of a silver blade it's now a black sword (like the one Sokka made from Avatar the Last Airbender)(As for Jaune's armor, it's the Rusted Knight armor but it's polished and the color is black and gold, helmet included)
Jaune walks into the kitchen where his wife made him some food to go, he grabbed the bag, kissed his wife and turned to leave when suddenly his wife stopped him
Ruby: Wait Jaune, do you know what day it is?
Jaune: Uh... Wednesday?
Ruby: No dummy it's take your daughter to work day!
Jaune: Uh I don't think it's a good idea to bring our daughter to our kind of work, at least not yet.
Ruby: I know, but she has been wanting to come with us for a while and since it's take your daughter to work day I figured now is the best time, plus she'd have my big strong dark knight as her protector~.
Jaune: Well yeah but-
Ruby caressed his face: Jaune you RoseArc-promised.
Jaune sighed: I did didn't I?
3 Hours Later
The scene shows a metal door to one of Atlesian's military bases exploded with Jaune rushes in while holding his daughter's hand but hit his head on the top of the door-way
Jaune holds his head for a second before activating his shield protecting his daughter amd himself from the bullets from the AK's
Jaune: Keep your head down Olvia!
Olivia holding a stuffed Ursa toy: Okay daddy-Whoa!
Jaune quickly dragged Olivia to cover but Olivia lost grip of her best friend.
Olivia: MR. CUZZYBOTTOM!!!
Olivia was about to run out to grab her friend but her father stopped her
Jaune looked down to his daughter and saw her pointing at her stuffed animal which is laying on the ground near the Atlesian Knights
Jaune sighs and looks at Olivia: I'll get him, you stay here where it's safe.
Jaune rushes out of cover, raised his shield and charged at the robot knights
Jaune quckly cut and sliced through the knights, grabbed the toy and rushed back to his daughter
Jaune out of breath and his daughter her toy: Here you go baby.
Salem: Who's the little girl?
Jaune nervous: Oh Lord Salem! Uh... it's bring your daughter to work day and uh I'm sorry for bringing, but my wife says we barely had time to spend together and let's be honest she's right, okay she's right!
Salem:...
Jaune even more nervous laughs a bit: Do you have kids? Cause heh I mean they change your world.
Salem:...
Jaune facepalms and mutters: Ugh I'm probably gonna get either fired or killed for this but... Fuck it.
Jaune grabs his daughter's hand: I love my daughter!
Salem brought her fist to her chest and smiles a bit: That really hits me where I'd live.
Salem noticed a survivor and used her powers to grab his neck
Salem: What have you done with those plans!? Jaune here never gets time to spend with his daughter because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!!
Salem snaps the survivor's neck and quickly realized there was a child present
Salem raised her other hand to her mouth: I'm so sorry you had to see that.
Salem drops the body
Salem kneels down to Olivia's eye level: Are you having fun being at work with your father?
Olivia gets nervous because she doesn't like talking to strangers and hides her face behind her father's leg
Salem chuckles: I know I'm pretty scary.
LATER IN MENAGERIE
Jaune was holding his daughter's hand as he and a White Fang goon was patroling a town looking for their targets when suddenly they come across an old man (Ozpin) wearing a hood with Weiss, Blake and Yang behind him also wearing hoods
Jaune stops them: Hold up you all seem familiar.
Ozpin uses his magic: These are not the students you're looking for.
Jaune: These are not the students we're looking for.
Olivia: Yes they are.
Ozpin: Move along
Jaune: Move along!
Ozpin and the three bitche- uh I mean students moved along going into the tavern for intel
Olivia: Daddy, You're not even trying!
Jaune: Honey, It's 110 DEGREES IN THIS CONTINENT!!! I CAN'T HEAR IN THIS THING!!! *points at his helmet* I WAS JUST REPEATING WHAT I THOUGHT THE GUY WAS SAYING! IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S MY OWN MOTHER FUCKING THOUGHT IN THE MATTER, OKAY!?
Olivia runs off crying and Jaune realized what he had done
Jaune feeling guilty and runs after his daughter: HONEY!!!
White Fang Goon: See? That's why I don't take my daugher to Jack Shit!

Kung Fu Panda 4 Thoughts/Liveblog Thing
Just caught this at the theater for a grand total of five whole dollars, so I thought I'd do some quick opinions while it's fresh.
Non-spoiler opinion: It was Okay(TM), but the movies were considerably stronger as a trilogy. It's worth seeing one (1) time if you're a KFP fan (and really, who isn't), but I wouldn't bother paying full price for it or anything
SPOILERS FOR ALL 4 MOVIES UNDER THE CUT:
A list of things that slap:
The animation is stunning and fast-paced. Really loved the use of Chinese-style paint brush strokes to accentuate the action
Also I'll talk about the 5 later but I also really liked the animation change when describing where they are—all KFP movies have at least one animation shift and I'm glad this one kept up with it
Some of the fight scenes were super good, I liked the one that uses the tilting bar on a cliff in particular
(side note: the Missing Link did something similar, just on a ship. Go watch the Missing Link)
The Chameleon served straight cunt the entire time she was on screen and I kind of loved (almost) everything about her. Character design was incredible, voice was perfect, palace design was amazing, abilities were sick
Also the way she rides up chilling in a golden tree branch of all things? Fellas, we have no choice but to stan
Also I just appreciate the choice to both do a female villain for a change and to get a reptile in here after having only mammals and one (1) bird as villains previously
Speaking of character design there were a few really good ones in there, like a pangolin that moves Sonic the Hedgehog-style, a cool looking female boar, and a bunch of Komodo dragon henchmen. Good stuff
The jokes were a very mixed bag for me, some hit and some didn't. I will say that Zhen just going "that's great for you" in response to Shifu stating he's a red panda got me for some reason
If anyone hurts Po's gay dads I'm killing everyone in this room and then myself
Jack Black's cover of Baby One (1) More Time is unironically better than the original
A list of things that Do Not Slap:
Pacing/Plot:
This movie lacked a color scheme? KFP 1 was blue (also some gold), KFP 2 was red, KFP 3 was green. These colors weren't subtle either, there are entire scenes in each movie drenched in these colors and it was really obviously missing here
The whole first half the movie feels really breathless and too fast-paced. Apparently it was a studio mandate to have it not go over an hour and a half which is A) stupid and B) hurts the pacing
As much as I love Po's two gay dads we REALLY should not have been wasting time on their journey when the runtime is so tight
Also them tagging along felt off? Mr. Ping was worried sick about Po in KFP 2 but he doesn't tag alone because obviously he needs to let his son have his space. It's more in-character with Li Shan but it doesn't come across like he's talking Mr. Ping into it or something
In general there are so many plot points in this movie that feel under-developed. You could've made an entire movie out of the previous villains returning, Zhen and the Chameleon's relationship (see below), etc.
Po's Character:
People not knowing Po is the dragon warrior is weird, I'm pretty sure he would've been more well known than that
The entire thing with Po needing to give up his role as the Dragon Warrior doesn't really make sense? The Dragon Warrior is literally a made-up title. There's no need to have a Dragon Warrior because there is no such thing technically, it's why Oogway denied Tai Lung the title and then waited years and years to give it to Po. Like it's not a role that needs to be passed down, that's missing the entire point of the Everything
Also Po's only been like Dragon Warrior for a few years? I don't think we're ever given a time scale but it wasn't that long
The jokes about Shifu and Po having trouble with inner peace/mediating feels off given that was the entire plot of the second movie
It felt like Po regressed a bit character wise. He acts like he has no idea how to be a teacher in this movie but he already was a teacher by the end of the third, that was the entire point??
Also he seemed like he was more gullible in this movie but I could be wrong
Why is Po so impressed with Juniper city. He literally spent most of KFP 2 in Gongmen hello?? I think(?) Juniper is bigger but he shouldn't be acting like he has no idea what a city is
Zhen/Chameleon:
Zhen's character design doesn't match anything else, which is weird because most of the new characters in this film keep the distinct style in some form or another
Her wanted poster shows her with the bold markings KFP is known for and it looks SO much better
The plot twist with Zhen working for the villain was so obvious I did not realize it was supposed to be a twist at first
Also, the entire thing with Zhen was entirely unneeded? The Chameleon could've just just stood up and announced her plan to take over and Po would've shown up on her doorstep with the staff
I guess the idea is that Po needed to hand over the staff willingly for it to work? But if that's the case the Chameleon could've just impersonated Tigress or something and gotten it that way in like 1/3 of the time
Originally she was supposed to have kidnapped Shifu which would've been a much better plot point as it would've given Po extra motivation
The other problem with treating Zhen as a plot twist is that it hampers the relationship she has with the Chameleon effectively being her mom, which is FASCINATING. They had some really interesting chemistry together (the whole "stand up straight" thing as one example) and I could've seen it as a Mother Gospel from Tangled kind of deal, but we barely get any interaction between the two and it's like AAAAAAA
Fanfic writers fix this shit. I believe in you
I'll have to chew on it more but my pacing thought would actually be to start with Po finding out about the Chameleon's "take over everything" plan very early due to Shifu's kidnapping. He breaks into the lair like at the 1/3 mark or earlier and he meets Zhen inside which then leads into why she's doing what she's doing and the mother angle, etc etc blah blah
The Chameleon needed to just straight-up murder someone, comically shoving them down the stairs isn't good enough. I know stairs are Po's greatest enemy but I don't think that applies to everyone
Shen was allowed to stab someone on-screen so I think the Chameleon should be a allowed to strangle someone or something. as a treat
If violence was the concern just keep it off-screen like Master Rhino's death in KFP 2
The shapeshifter turning into a giant monster trope is overrated and I'm glad it was just used briefly here and not even for her defeat
Also the Chameleon's thing with her being rejected from Kung Fu because she's too small makes no sense b/c Mantis, which I'm pretty sure everyone's pointed out already. She does say "lowly" I think but was she ever poor? Could make a very interested parallel to Zhen if that was the case but it was never brought up again
I've heard some argue body image parallels w/ Po in KFP 1 but if that was the intent it's not explored, like, at all, which is a shame because it could've been an interesting angle
Also If they wanted a better excuse related to body image just say she was too frail instead of too small. I haven't owned chameleons but I've heard from people who have that they are very frail and very hard to keep alive, which would be a much better reason to turn her away
Cameos:
Yes I'm devoting an entire section to five second cameos don't judge me
I have mixed feelings on the Five not being present (save for the end cameos). On the one hand they are sorely missed but on the other hand they would've just made the plot bloat even worse
Lack of speaking was also bothersome. Part of me is glad they weren't recast with cheaper VAs because it's disrespectful to interchange them, but on the other hand that might've been better than just not having them speak and not paying anyone anyway
Tai Lung had all the best lines and was also the best used out of all the cameos, even if it would've been nice to have him on screen for longer. Also if they stuck with Shifu being kidnapped those two could've had some much-needed dialogue
Side note, while I don't think it contradicts anything from KFP 3 the spirit world having only kung fu masters in it feels off? It makes it seem so small and limited
Kai being there is weird. He's like. dead dead. Deader than dead. I guess you could argue that you can't kill something that's already dead but there's nothing even acknowledging this
Trying to take Shen's kung fu is really weird because the entire point of the fight with Master Rhino in KFP 2 is that he is not? a master?? like he's GOOD but he's not amazing, like if a master is like a 10/10 he's like an 8/10.
"The Chameleon has the powers of all my old nemesises!" WHAT'S SHEN'S POWER EXACTLY. HIS ONLY POWERS ARE GUN AND MOMMY/DADDY ISSUES
She does summon him way later than Tai Lung and Kai so maybe she was just camp spawning every single person she could think of regardless of skill level? she also uses his wings at one point so maybe she just wanted those, I don't think(?) there were other birds summoned
Though speaking of which she claimed she was using his wings but very clearly wasn't? not only were they black but they were raggedy and lacked the five longer feathers on the tips
Also Shen's model was super off, it looked way too fluffy and like an entire row of eyespots were missing from the edge of the train (which might have been a clipping error? unsure) it's been said the new models were made out of glue and popsical sticks and I believe it
Tai Lung has a habit of just like Grabbing anyone that's smaller than him and it amuses me
It's honestly really weird that everyone would just agree to go back into the spirit world willingly?
Like I think it works for Tai Lung because he's a noble person who just goes into a disassociative state and commits atrocities. Like I think he'd be willing to accept his death
Also it checks out for Shen because he killed himself and given his "dead belong in the past" mentality I can't imagine him wanting to stick around, he'd probably think it was unnatural
But Kai?? Kai was FURIOUS at being dragged back into the spirit world at the end of 3, like hell he'd just go quietly
Also I can see Tai Lung maybe respecting Po enough to bow to him but everyone else is pushing it unless they have therapists in the spirit world. Po offered Shen some nice advice at the end of KFP 2 and his response was to kill himself on the spot, I don't think him or Kai would be bowing
All of them were definitely in the middle of a mahjong match and were experiencing the equivalent of being woken up in the middle of a nap so they were just going along with things
Chameleon: I'm going to steal your kung fu
Everyone:
Tumblr media
Misc:
I did like some of the more subtle callbacks. Stuff like Po seeing his reflection in the blade the way Shifu did or the "I can't even beat you to the stairs" scene were nice and not overly overt or in-your-face
If Po actively refers to himself as the "Kung Fu Panda" one more time I'm going to end it all
anyway that was not supposed to be a 12 page essay but it's too late now, goodbye

Y'all I am reaching, and I mean fucking REACHING with this observation. Do with this information what you will 😭 🤷🏽‍♀️:
Zuko uses a navy blue and red sari (w/ gold accents) to entrap Aang during their fight sequence in 1x03 (I think?🤔)
Tumblr media
I just found it interesting that in the next episode, they animate Shu wearing a flowy blue robe with a tinge of red. They totally could have made Oma and Shu just wear green and yellow, considering they're Earth Nation citizens, but the bait be baiting 😅
Tumblr media
Why these color scheme choices? Interesting... 🤔 Anyway, I'm just enjoying every little crumb we get at this point😚 Also found it interesting how similar Zuko and Aang are fighting in that scene, and how close to water bending the movements are (perhaps they're picking up some things along the way from Katara?) 😊 🌊
I'm sure there are some connections we can draw to the now famous scarf scene we're all obsessing over at the moment😁😅🧣 I'm more than happy to hear it! Let me know what y'all think💜

Hello! I’m very curious of your use of colors and how you go about choosing them for a piece? They all have such a nice vibe and are a treat to the eyes!! I’m also surprised you’re a med student!! How do you juggle making art with your studies?? (from the few things (very very few) I know about medical studies it just seems like a LOT of studying goes on, so I’m very curious!)
Tumblr media
Sometimes artists make things look so easy! I want to talk about my artistic process honestly, so I’m going to show you some pieces I struggled on, with my reasoning and references, and also my mistakes and where I asked for help. I’m glad you like my colors, they’re sometimes what I end up spending the most time on.
So hello and welcome to a somewhat long write up.
First I want to show this piece, “A friendship between an escort and an eel man,” that I love the finished colors of but was a pain while I was making it:
Tumblr media
I start off with two ideas I wanted to combine for the color scheme:
The two halves, the human half and the eel tank half, should be distinct. I thought human side red, eel tank blue.
Tumblr media
2. For additional contrast, I wanted human half dark and eel tank bright.
Tumblr media
Wasn't entirely clicking, but I decided to just start slapping down colors and adjust later.
A note on shadows and lighting- shift not just the values (light/dark of the color) but the hue as well (the.. color of the color) to give a piece a richer tone. Here I’m making the shadows more red and the lighting more yellow (though in the end the lighting is blue instead).
(Of course, changing value only is a choice used in many color schemes as well. Maybe if you want a piece to look dingy, or monochromatic. You can do anything if you do it intentionally.)
Here I liked the warm human half, but I didn’t like the blue tank so much.
Tumblr media
Tried some warm colors. Still wasn’t working. Though bringing the yellow into the tank made the piece more cohesive, having the whole thing be similar colors was not my initial goal. It looked boring, and the eel tank was not separate enough. The yellows and browns on the aquarium side did not look like water, even when I tried suggesting the top of the tank.
Tumblr media
I asked a friend (@veritasgloriamart) for help and she sent me this reference:
Tumblr media
I adjusted the tank colors to the reference, and added a blue glow instead of yellow to help connect the two sides. It was still not looking cohesive enough to me.
Tumblr media
A blue overlay layer added to the human side to make the colors even more aligned with the tank side worked! Overlay layers are magic. They can really help make colors come together. Here the purple on the human side still works to separate it from the tank, but the blue shadows bring them together. It was looking really good now!
Tumblr media
Contrast is important, so eel man became darker. Him and the escort are the subjects, so they get to be dark against a light background. Contrast and focal points are important.
Tumblr media
After some cleaning up, here is the final piece again! I put some pink in the tank to bring some of human side into the tank side too.
Tumblr media
Here is a second piece I struggled with:
Again I start off with some ideas: the scene should  look warm and comfortable. I thought I should use a lot of colors, to make the meal look like a colorful feast. But I wasn’t paying enough attention to lighting and contrast, so it was looking flat and disorganized.
Tumblr media
I decided I wanted the colors to look more intentional. Let's do purple and yellow, warm and complementary colors. Green and red because food needs those colors. But the contrast was still not good enough. The piece still lacked clarity and focus.
Tumblr media
One thing to do when struggling with contrast and clarity: switch to thinking with values. Working in black and white, I made the figure of the fairy on the left darker against a lighter background to make her stand out, and I made the unimportant edges of the piece darker, but it didn’t feel like enough.
Tumblr media
My friend (thanks @deoidesign) gave me critique to make the lighting bolder on the hair and table, making the silhouette of the fairy much more clear. After following the advice, it was really working for me now!
Tumblr media
I used the gradient map tool to rough out a similar yellow and purple color scheme as my initial idea:
Tumblr media
After adding the gradient map it’s pretty much done. Gradient maps are magic.
I lost the idea I started with, making the food colorful, but the food worked better being all yellow instead. Making the food all one color made the lighting more clear, deemphasized it, and let the characters stand out. Things don't always have to be colored the color they actually are.
Tumblr media
Minor details added, final piece.
"Eating faerie food gives them power over you, but if fae eat human food, it works the other way around too. These three don’t mind either way."
Tumblr media
Final example, a piece that wasn’t a struggle: A necromancer and kitty’s latest conquest.
Sometimes, coloring is just vibes.
The starting idea for this one: muted blue and purple/red.
Tumblr media
I took some inspiration from this piece by an artist whos work I love love love (the green one under 2021):
Tumblr media
That piece inspired me to add the beige, green, and pink from the color scheme. I also nudged the reds more into purple to make them softer.
The plants got to be green, as did the walls. Blue and purple, the cooler colors, for the shadows and darker plants. Pink as a bright color, used sparingly to add warmth. Beige used wherever it fits, to calm everything down. The colors for this piece came naturally so I don’t have a lot of progress shots.
Some things I was considering here: I was blending the colors into each other and reusing them throughout the piece. Nearby colors bleed into each other, unifying them. Things are not held to the colors they would be in the real world, but rather what looks good.
Tumblr media
Only very minor changes were made after the color sketch. Final piece:
Tumblr media
When I’m not feeling like experimenting so much, sometimes I just fall back on color schemes I’m used to. I know red, green, and yellow look cozy and warm together so a lot of my pieces use that.
On learning colors:
For me, learning means paying attention to the colors in the world around me and to the colors in other people’s art. I note the general idea of color palettes (example: yellow highlights, blue shadows is one I see a lot) and the impressions they give off. I’m slowly building up a library in my head of palettes.
Tips summary:
Having some idea of the mood of the piece or a general palette can be a good starting point
Ask for help
Take inspiration and use references
Value is more important for clarity than colors are. If the colors are not working, it could be because the values are not working
You don’t need to color things the color they actually are. Color them how they look or what looks best for the piece. White things are not necessarily white, skin is not necessarily a shade of brown. The lighting of an environment changes the colors you see.
Iterate on ideas. Critique yourself.
Thinking of a piece as a whole helps the colors look cohesive. Think of palates while considering the whole piece. Intentionally reuse colors throughout.
Consider bleeding nearby colors into each other. In real life, bounce light can give this effect. In art, it’s not necessarily always realistic but can add texture and cohesiveness.
Practice practice practice
The end. I hope it’s useful!

All of the great Maria Hill moments in Secret Invasion
Tumblr media
this bestie hug scene
Tumblr media
this scene where she realizes her demise is imminent because she just saw agent ross die turn into a skrull in front of her and knows she’s gonna be a goner no matter what but also the hair.
Tumblr media
this scene where she gets to explain the plot of the episode to the audience so we understand what is going on and why we should care while rocking this v-neck and gay stud earrings.
Tumblr media
additional v-neck appreciation
Tumblr media
this scene where she grabbed her arm and rocked the v-neck again and also has A+ hair.
Tumblr media
this scene where we got a great shot of this hair again
Tumblr media
this scene where she ate one piece of barely popped popcorn, confirming to us that she is a human and not a robot i guess also Nick lmao you can’t make popcorn just for yourself dude. also i just noticed that this is an extension of Maria’s red/white & blue color scheme here!
Tumblr media
this quick shot where she is smiling at Nick getting out of the SUV aka her house I assume since she is basically always getting in or out of SUVS???
Tumblr media
this scene where she gets to leave her SUV house because she noticed a short person and was immediately like a short person in a tv show? that’s SUS!
Tumblr media
this scene where she walked outside, i loved this, she looks great outside walking, i would love more scenes where Maria walks outside alive.
Tumblr media
this shot where her hair was fucking perfect
Tumblr media
this last moment of perfect hair before G’iah fucking wrecks it
Tumblr media
this moment when she was like, how dare you be a short person, you better not mess up my hair in this poorly lit tunnel we are about to have a hairography fight in!!!
Tumblr media
this moment where she legit held her own for a moment in a poorly lit tunnel that was not that way just to hide stunt doubles against G’iah in this hairography fight... (Also apparently, just being a skrull G’iah has super strength so it’s amazing that Maria Hill didn’t die in this encounter, also why wouldn’t G’iah just kill her, she’s about to be fine with killing 2000 people in a bombing?) NGL I made fun of this scene a lot the camera work is horrible and it’s so awkward and it makes no sense.
Tumblr media
this scene where she sat the gayest way possible in A RUSSIAN DIVE BAR
Tumblr media
then this scene where she changed to her only other article of clothing, a second gray hoodie like a mom in a 2012 yogurt commercial.
Tumblr media
and finally, when Nick brought back those infrared glasses from space that he just happened to have like he knew they were gonna need them ahead of time and then acting like they are essential for some reason to this very dumb and terrible plan. But NGL they did look gay and cute as hell.
I refuse to look at any screen caps further into Operation Glasses
(( Also, I was just thinking about how even if she did survive being shot that dirty bomb radiation would have gotten her, right? Also, why did the dirty bombs not affect real Fury? Surprise another plot hole. ))

an analysis of clothes in st (part i) - the meaning of yellow within the party
so, this analysis is one that has been in the making since before s4 came out - i literally had to dig through old discord messages to look for what i was talking about two years ago. i'm hoping to make this into a series because i loved analyzing the outfits back then and i wanted to share what i thought about them! the costume designers put so much thought and effort into all the clothes and i'd love to try to understand why they chose what they did for specific moments. heads up! - this analysis series will mainly cover the party members. outfits are important within the entire context of the show as well, so i may include other group members from time to time. however, my primary focus on st has always been the party members, so i'm gonna be giving them the main focus in all of the posts.
--
let's start with my favorite meaning for the clothes: yellow.
when party members wear yellow, they tend to be in situations where they are trying to fit in or act normal, typically when regarding relationships, but could also be within society, a situation, or in general. i have four examples of yellow being used as a signal that these characters are put in situations where they're trying to fit in / act normal - one of max, one of the entire party, and two of mike. let's start with max!
------
example one: in s2e3, we watch max trying her best to fit in with the boys when dustin is showing them dart. despite her attitude when they first meet her, she obviously does want to be friends with these guys regardless. in this episode, max wears a yellow hoodie while all the boys wear variants of the same neutral grays/whites, dark blues and reds, showing the difference between max and the other party members. she has not "earned" her keep yet, and she's trying to fit in but she is not yet in the know of the upside down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
even el is wearing similar colors to the rest of the boys, another clear sign that she is "in" the party too, despite being away from them. they did something similar in the previous episode as well, where the boys + el wore matching costumes (boys were ghostbusters and el was a ghost), while max wore a costume that didn't have her fit in (michael myers).
all of the current party members have the colors gray, red and/or blue that tie them all together in that scene, so max's yellow hoodie makes her stick out like a sore thumb. a side note is that mike and will are the only members to have all three colors on them, and matching color outfits between couples tend to be common in the show.
--
example two: in s3e1, the opposite happens. everyone in the party except dustin is wearing a combination of blue and/or yellow. dustin is wearing primarily green, which i will explain the meaning of in another post. all i'll say about it now is that the color green most likely has to do with being comfortable or confident in your own identity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
will, however, is a special case, because he was actually not wearing yellow in that scene, only blue and a stripe of red. personally, i thought it was to set up how will's growth that season wasn't completely about societal expectations regarding romantic relationships like the rest of his season group. his character arc was much more about having to grow up and understand change when he doesn't want to because of the trauma he'd experienced the previous seasons. this is actually also reflected in his clothes - will is the only one that season to not wear any new colors (he only wears the three primary colors -> red, blue and yellow) while the rest of the party got to wear both secondary and primary colors (mike wore teal, el and max wore many different colors, lucas wore purple, and dustin wore green + orange).
back to the party - in that scene, the couples also match each others outfits. mike and el's have the same color scheme, being mainly blues with a small hint of yellow, and lumax having the perfect blend of yellow and blue together. this may be a stretch, but its a possible hint to show that lumax fit together, while mike and el don't.
the party members that were dating each other wearing yellow that season was to show their attempts to act normal via relationships. season 3 was also the one that the duffers kept referencing as the summer of love, despite all the couples that season being dysfunctional.
--
examples three and four: now, we're at the section of mike wheeler, my favorite closet case. he is the main reason as to why i noticed that there was a small pattern with the color yellow being used in the party's wardrobe.
i think we've all noticed that mike has a tendency to act very... straight when he's wearing the color yellow as his main color. this can be seen in both s3 and s4, especially during the episodes where mike is hyperfocused on his relationship with el.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when mike was wearing the first outfit in s3, he was searching for a way to make it up to el because he lied to her. though he was trying to act normal or learn to be normal for their relationship, he wasn't doing a great job of it. during that entire section, mike was going through the motions of learning how a straight man is supposed to act, with lucas by his side giving constant straight man advice. he was also not getting it.
now, onto what is possibly my favorite outfit in the entire series - mike's s4e2 outfit. first of all, he's wearing a yellow shirt over a purple undershirt, presumably for el because that's her favorite colors apparently. obviously, mike is not himself in this outfit, but he's trying to fit into this california tourist look for his girlfriend.
in this outfit, mike was trying extremely hard to only focus on being el's boyfriend and not will's best friend. we know how that went, and this outfit helped us realize how badly mike was doing trying to follow that mindset.
before s4, we were never given any indication that mike's style would be like this. michael wheeler should not be wearing an outfit that has a yellow hawaiian shirt, the color purple, a visor and sunglasses, and flip flops to top it all off. it doesn't fit his normal style that he's normally been shown wearing throughout the show, being button ups, polos, and for that season, black jeans and chuck taylors.
he was intentionally put in an outfit that did not follow his true identity. the shirt, thus the outfit and the het identity that mike was attempting to fit into, was literally called a "shitty knockoff" by argyle.
------
i'm positive there are way more examples that can be used, but these are the ones that stuck out to me the most. i'll leave off with some ending thoughts:
we as bylers have always considered will's main color to be yellow, but from what i've noticed in each season, the majority of his outfits have blue, same as mike (matching couple's colors)! in fact, s4 was the first time where the majority of the season had will wearing yellow, probably because of how he was dealing with his crush on mike at the time. i'd like to point out that the main colors that lucas and max wear are also the same, being red.
i'd love to do another one of these, the next one probably being about the color green because i think i have a grasp on the reasoning behind that color. other than that, i still really need to analyze the colors of their outfits again because i think the party's clothes specifically are most indicative of their behavior. since they are the youngest group, they are the ones who are the most volatile and it's reflected in everything, especially their clothes!

The thing is, the blue and green thing is pretty straightforward most of the time. If we're talking about main couples or secondary character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, most of the time, it's pretty obvious, it's a shirt or a jacket, it's the first thing you will notice when you see the character.
The easiest couple to track all down is madney, i think because we see a lot of changes in the relationship, we end up getting more of them with the blue and green color scheme. But it is mostly a jacket, a sweater, a shirt.
Tumblr media
So applying that rule to buddie, it happened twice. And it's interesting because it's a repeat shade from the only situation where Eddie and Ana were in the color scheme and because it's the shooting Buck and Taylor blue and green.
Tumblr media
Eddie and Ana only have the one scene, so not a lot of choice there, but Buck and Taylor have a lot of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, obvious, straightforward, not a lot to think about, BUT I am a crazy person, and I have been paying more attention to the couples and the use of blue and green, because I got curious after rewatching Boston for the rewatch, because I'm paying a lot of attention to backgrounds and scenery looking for the correct shots to gif, and watching under pressure right after.
Why? Well, I did say madney is the easiest way to track the blue and green thing. Boston is a very blue and green episode even when Maddie and Chim are not dressed in blue and green.
Maddie is wearing blue in the video, Chim is wearing green when he watches it, she's in blue while she's alone (even her hospital gown is blue, and that's not a common thing for the show), he's in green when he's alone, so we are still in the color scheme.
Tumblr media
But considering the nature of the episode, Saint Patrick's Day, there is an insane amount of green being used as a backdrop. With Chim standing out because of the way his vest is blue in a sea of green.
Tumblr media
But Maddie's jacket is only blueish, so things start to get muddy.
Tumblr media
Because when they do meet, they are in neutral colors, but they have a lot of blue and green props and pieces of scenery.
Tumblr media
But when she says she wants to go back home, Maddie's in a really dark green with some green detailing shirt, and Chim is in a blue shirt, but they both have jackets on, so the color is not the focus of the outfit.
Tumblr media
Not like it would be here, when they find out Jee is a girl or in mixed feelings when literally every couple is blue or green at some point.
Tumblr media
So the details matter too. I feel like that's a safe assumption. (It's not, everything about this is insane but stay with me)
Also, the blue and green thing can also be used in the search for love I would say, because Buck is wearing blue on the date with Veronica.
Tumblr media
So, I established a pattern here, why does this relate to under pressure or buddie?
Tumblr media
Neutral color outfits (which is fun considering their uniform is blue) and blue and green backgrounds. Yes, I understand that the blue is because of the sirens and there is the occasional red there too, but if we are using sirens as bisexual lighting, I'm using it here.
But the thing is, when thinking about the blue and green thing in the great scheme of things, I only ever considered tops, and a few dresses because of Karen, but considering my insanity over Boston, I was like, okay, let's expand.
If we ignore the uniform (I choosing to because they don't have a lot of room with the uniform, it is what it is, and sometimes a scene will happen in the firehouse) Eddie is wearing blue after the tsunami and the will reveal, Buck's wearing blue after Chim goes after Maddie, Buck's wearing blue in the kitchen talk in outside looking in (and yes he's wearing blue because Taylor is wearing green, but he's still in blue), the shirt Buck has under the red jacket during the breakdown is blue, Buck is wearing something blue(ish) when they talk about the couches, Eddie is wearing blue on the poker date, Buck is wearing green on the cemetery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, but Anna, they are mismatched, does it really mean anything?
Yeah, well, I don't know, but the thing here is actually all about the way I was watching tomorrow earlier, and everything about the episode is about Henren, right?
Hen and Karen don't have a lot of obvious blue and green moments, I've been searching for them and saving the ones I can find, but so far I just have two major ones, when they decide to foster and when Eva comes back the last time.
Tumblr media
But the thing is, Hen's color pallet is about patterns. Karen's too. So I made the decision to go around looking for just, anything predominantly blue or green. So now I get to introduce pants into the situation.
Tumblr media
Because after this there's even a random couple on a call with the blue and green being completed with pants.
Tumblr media
And also, there's another using the background to complete the color scheme moment, since Hen's hoodie is blue and the backdrop is green behind Karen (this is a flashback and flashbacks tend to be muted, but it is green)
Tumblr media
Okay, now, why does it matter? Thinking back to some major buddie scenes, I'm tempted to overanalyze Eddie's choice of pants.
Tumblr media
Sure, in these two the pants are green, but Eddie is the one with the blue shirt to begin with, so not a lot to on there, BUT, we also have in the green pants with Buck in the blue background.
Tumblr media
We also have this, with the green pants and the blue hoodie.
Tumblr media
And the green background. Please notice the way the plants are out of focus behind Buck but not behind Eddie.
Tumblr media
Also, something that drives me absolutely, completely crazy about the cemetery scene, or just about coloring it while gifing, is that the sky is blue behind Eddie, but it's not blue behind Buck (so this is hell to match)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buck is wearing green, the sky is only blue behind Eddie. That's also interesting because Buck is never wearing green, unless something is wrong (breaking up with Ali and Taylor, the coma dream, the cemetery, longer meta about it can be found here) and they are consistent about Eddie being green, Buck being blue, so they switched colors, and something they do is switch color with Buck and Taylor when the relationship starts going to hell, so, choices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I'm curious about the choice of everything in the van being green. Not that there's anything visibly blue about Buck, even the sky and the water are barely blue, but it is funny.
Tumblr media
They do have a blue truck, but that feels like a stretch even for me aoskoaskoaskaoksas
Tumblr media
Anyway, that's enough craziness for the day, if you read this, I love you <3

Chapter 1 - Flat White | Varicolored Schemes Masterlist
Tumblr media
𝐏𝐔𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐄𝐖 York’s gateway to damnation.
Celebrated as the epitome of New York's nightlife, the club stood tall as a beacon of ecstasy. Its alluring neon lights and captivating fire displays worked their magic, casting a spell on anyone who entered. Not to mention how the bartenders' artistry in concocting sinful drinks and the hypnotic rhythm of the music had the power to transport patrons to the very edge of heaven's precipice.
Everyone loved Purgatory. Everyone except Y/N. She harbored not even a modicum of affinity for the newly inaugurated business. In her rather abashed opinion, Purgatory was a breathing disaster. The crimson walls reminded her of Christian Gray’s outrageous BDSM room, and the obsidian marble bar sparked memories of Voldemort’s reign of terror. Yes, black and red were colors that went well together, but the falu red walls were anything but flattering when the amber lights glided over them.
It was outrageous how long the waiting list was for a place as distasteful as this. Though the only redeeming factor, to some extent, was the quality of the drinks. But the bartender seriously needed to draw the limit for those who callously consumed alcohol as if they were born in Russia and had gained supernatural immunity against vodka’s kicks and punches.
Three guys had already attempted to take Y/N to the bathroom, which was a despicable shade of merlot, for a quick shag. And only one of the three walked away without the promise of a kiss from her pepper spray because he had been pulled by the ear by whom Y/N assumed was his girlfriend.
And to top it all off, Yelena, Y/N’s best friend, had disappeared somewhere in the crowd and wasn’t answering any of her texts. Feeling exasperated, Y/N retrieved her phone from her pocket. If Yelena continued to ignore her text messages, then it was time to make a call. Maybe the incessant vibration of her phone for a solid minute would finally capture Yelena's attention. The phone rang five times before Yelena finally picked up, and to Y/N’s misfortune, her friend didn’t sound alone.
“Please tell me you’re not on the phone with me while having sex with some guy.”
“I am not on the phone with you while having sex,” Yelena replied indignantly. There was some shuffling from her end of the line, audibly heard from the lack of blaring music. “I’m getting pizza with some people I met at the club.”
“You’re what? With who? And you didn’t think to tell me!”
“I’m telling you now.”
“How considerate of you,” Y/N seethed, gripping her phone tighter. She was already speeding out of the club, pushing her way through the drunken herd. “You couldn’t have informed me of your plans when you ditched me forty-five minutes ago?”
“No, because I didn’t have any plans forty-five minutes ago. I just had them five minutes before you called.”
Y/N inwardly groaned. Now that she was outside the club, she was certain that Yelena must have heard her. She forcefully yanked on the car door handle, hastening to insert the key into the ignition. "Seriously, Yelena? I can't believe you abandoned me for a group of strangers!"
"Hey!" Yelena chided. "I didn't ditch you for them. I ditched you for pizza."
“Yel—”
“Luigi’s Pizza.”
“Luigi’s! That’s all the way across town. Are you sure it's a good idea to go there with people you just met?”
“Are you sure it’s a good idea to be talking on the phone while driving?”
“You’re on Bluetooth speaker right now,” Y/N fired back. She was starting to get visibly irritated.
“Good for you. Lock the doors while you’re driving, and keep the pepper spray close to you.”
Is she seriously going over a road safety protocol with me right now? Y/N thought. “You’re with a bunch of strangers. In a car that’s not your own. Going to goddamn Luigi’s at four in the morning! And you’re lecturing me about safety?”
“Yes,” came Yelena’s answer. Her tone was a perfect mix of exasperation and incredulity. “Besides, they should be more afraid of me than I will ever be of them.” Y/N couldn’t argue with that. “Now, let me focus on the road, птичка.”
“Are you really the one driving, Yel?” Y/N asked.
“Of course I am. You’d think I’d let some stranger drive me to Luigi’s?”
Y/N couldn't help but burst into laughter. It was such a quintessential Yelena remark. She was just about to caution her friend to stay safe when the call abruptly disconnected, leaving behind a resounding beep that filled the ensuing silence. She had to applaud Yelena for her dual role as both a nuisance and an entertainer.
Deciding not to bother and call again, Y/N focused on getting herself home. Fifteen minutes away from her house, she turned on her blinker and took a right turn. Unaware of the glass shards on the road ahead, Y/N let out a shriek when a loud popping noise flooded her ears. Her hands tightened their hold on the steering wheel as realization dawned on her: something was awry with her car. Its movements became increasingly hesitant, raising her anxiety levels with each passing moment.
By some stroke of luck, Y/N managed to park her car on the side of the road. Taking a few moments to collect herself, she focused on calming her racing thoughts. Without delay, she activated her emergency lights and cautiously stepped out of the vehicle. As she rounded the car, her gaze immediately landed on the deflated tire.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Frustration surged through Y/N as she swiftly retrieved her phone and dialed Yelena's number. The phone rang twice, briefly fanning the flames of Y/N’s hope, before the call abruptly ended. Trying once more, she stomped her feet on the road in frustration when it went straight to voicemail. "Goddamn Luigi’s! And goddamn you, Yelena Belova!"
When Yelena had invited her to Purgatory, Y/N didn’t think that she was going to be balancing on the edge of hell, her grip on sanity hanging by a thread.
She glared at her flat tire, her eyes wandering to the glass shards a couple of feet away and then to the dark sky above her. It was way too early for this shit. And while yes, Y/N did have a spare tire in her trunk, she had no idea how to change it. So, she did what any sane person would do in such a situation. She yelled out in frustration and kicked the goddamn thing.
After releasing her frustration, she got into the car and settled in the driver’s seat. Locking her doors and making sure her pepper spray was close by, Y/N started googling a 24/7 roadside assistance service. As her search results loaded in a flash, a sudden knock on her window stole her attention from the glowing screen, drawing her gaze to mesmerizing blue eyes on the other side of the glass.
Startled, Y/N jolted in her seat, instinctively leaning away from the window. However, her initial fear quickly transformed into astonishment as she focused on the man standing on the other side of the glass. He motioned for her to roll down her window, and she complied. Although the window only opened partially, leaving only a small gap, the stranger didn't seem to mind.
"Hello, ma'am," he greeted with a hint of a smile. His poised voice and penetrating blue eyes sent shivers down Y/N's spine.
She cleared her throat, trying to mask any hint of trepidation. "Hi," she replied, her voice steadier than she felt inside.
“I saw that you have a flat tire. Can I help you in any way?”
Y/N hesitated, glancing between him and her phone, unsure of how to respond. She waited for a moment, attempting to appear nonchalant, before replying, "Thank you. I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather call for roadside assistance."
"At four in the morning?" He tilted his head slightly to the right, and Y/N felt a nervous gulp rise in her throat. She couldn't tell if it was his chiseled jaw or his imposing gaze that unsettled her. "If you get a hold of them, it might take them an hour to get here. I can fix your tire in five minutes."
Y/N gnawed at her lower lip, torn between the convenience of accepting the stranger's help and her initial hesitation. She glanced between him and the road, contemplating her options. Did she really want to stay locked in her car for an entire hour, or did she want to get home quickly and rest in the comfort of her own bed?
"Besides a spare tire, I don't have a repair kit or anything," she admitted, her expression now tinged with a hint of hopelessness. While she was willing to accept the man's assistance, she feared that it might not be enough to get her back on the road.
The stranger's lips twitched, forming a reassuring smile that strangely comforted Y/N. "Don't worry about that. I've got you covered." His words seemed to carry an air of confidence that put her at ease.
Nodding her head, Y/N reached out to open the car door. The stranger fell back a step, extending a hand to help her out of her car. She cautiously accepted it, surprised by the softness of his touch and the delicate gesture.
As soon as she was out, he let go of her hand. Though his touch was polite and fleeting, Y/N found herself needing it to anchor her when she finally focused on him. She couldn't help but be struck by his height. Despite having to lean down to face her window, he easily towered over six feet.
Blinking owlishly, she fiddled with her keys before pressing a button to open the trunk. When the stranger passed her to grab the spare tire, she noticed him motioning for the two men in the black car behind her. She bristled, eyes wary. Her shoulders immediately relaxed when one of them fished out the tire repair kit and handed it to the stranger.
“Here you go, boss,” the man with brown hair tied in a bun said.
He straightened his black blazer, offering a brief nod in Y/N's direction. She eyed him curiously, following his light steps. Turning her attention back to the blond man, she couldn't help but feel intrigued. "What's your name?" she inquired.
He looked up at her, his piercing blue eyes meeting her gaze before he replied, "Steven. Though most people call me Steve, ma'am."
"Y/N," she clarified, introducing herself while absently placing a hand on her arm. Partly rubbing away the intrigue that slithered through her body and mostly attempting to conceal the areas her short mauve dress exposed.
“Y/N,” Steve enunciated. His delicate and euphonious words were a stark contrast to his intimidating stature. He studied her, regarding the way she shifted from one foot to another. She bit down on her tongue, ready to react in case of any abrupt movement. To her surprise, Steve shrugged off his jacket and extended it to her. “Would you mind holding on to it? I wouldn’t want to get it dirty.”
“Sure.” Her voice came out breathless, caught off guard by his request. She took the jacket from Steve’s hand, noting how he moved his fingers around to avoid brushing hers. The action was both welcome and disappointing because, despite Y/N's guarded demeanor, she couldn't help but feel drawn to Steve's enigmatic presence and the subtle grace with which he moved.
“You can put it on.”
“What?”
Steve laughed slightly at Y/N’s oblivious state. He regarded her as she hugged the piece of fabric close to her body, noting the way the faint street light glided over her soft features. “It’s cold. And if you insist on standing in the open road, I’d feel much better if you kept yourself warm.”
Y/N's fingers clenched tightly onto the fabric of Steve's leather jacket. The warmth that surged through her body in response to his words was palpable, yet she masked her emotions with caution. "It's alright," she responded carefully. "Thank you, but I really don't need to."
"I insist," Steve countered, his gaze carrying an air of authority. She found herself yielding to it, unable to resist. As soon as she placed the jacket on her shoulders, her nose embraced the dizzying scent of sandalwood and bourbon. She dug her hands into the jacket’s pockets, feeling at ease in Steve’s presence. “Do you live far?”
“Fifteen minutes away,” she replied.
Steve was currently engrossed in adjusting the new tire, and Y/N took the opportunity to quietly observe him. Her eyes traced his skillful fingers as they gripped the tire, and she found herself captivated by his blond hair and the strands that fell gently across his eyes.
“New Yorker?”
She shook her head. “I actually moved here a couple of months back. I’m from Washington.”
“Really? That’s where I met Sam,” Steve remarked, gesturing towards the car parked behind them where the two men sat. Y/N’s gaze shifted to the tall, black man with a laid-back expression, whom she identified as Sam. “Him and Bucky, the one beside him, are my best friends.”
“Didn’t the one with the man bun, uhh, Bucky, call you boss?”
Steve chuckled. “Yeah, it’s definitely a long story,” he admitted, leaving the details unspoken. After a brief pause, his curiosity turned toward Y/N. “What about you?” he inquired. “Made any friends here?”
“Not much,” she hummed. “Except for a best friend who decided that forgoing a slice of Luigi’s pizza in favor of keeping me company would be sacrilegious.”
The roaring of Steve’s laughter was welcome in the dimly lit road. For a moment, he forgot all about fixing the tire, letting his attention fall on Y/N. His voice was full of mirth as he spoke, “Luigi’s is a godsend. Tell her to try the Brooklyn special. It’s my favorite.”
“Now I know what to get you as a thank you for your services.”
“Don’t you worry about that, doll.” Steve flashed her a winsome smile, and she just knew that the goosebumps on her skin were not caused by the crisp wind around them. I’m just glad to have crossed your path.”
As Steve spoke, Y/N watched him deftly dust off his fingers and tidy up the tools. The five minutes seemed to pass all too quickly, much to Y/N's disappointment. He efficiently organized everything back in its designated spot, and when she tried to lend a hand, he kindly gestured for her to stop with a raised hand. Meanwhile, Bucky stepped out of the car and retrieved the kit from Steve, who was now carefully placing the old tire in Y/N’s trunk.
“I really can’t thank you enough for this,” YN expressed sincerely.
Steve closed her trunk, leaning against her car with a radiant grin. “It’s no problem at all.” He fished out a card holder from the pocket of his jeans and offered it to Y/N. “If you ever need anything, or you lose your friend to Luigi’s and find yourself in need of someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to give me a call. Even if it’s at four in the morning.”
Y/N's gaze fixed upon the card, her eyes gliding over the elegant golden letters delicately engraved on the sleek black paper. The minimalistic design caught her attention, showcasing only the essential contact details. It held a certain allure, an understated elegance that piqued her curiosity.
“Thank you,” she found herself saying. She wished she could say more, but the whole encounter had left her astounded. It was a wonder her brain even managed to form two words.
Reluctantly, Y/N observed Steve nodding his head as he bid her goodbye. He took his place in the back of his car but didn’t motion for Bucky to move. It took her a moment, perhaps a moment too long, to grasp that he was waiting for her to safely settle in her own car before he would depart.
Immediately, Y/N jumped in her car and turned it on. She waved at Steve as he passed by her car and went on his way. Suddenly, a realization struck Y/N like a striking lightning bolt. Two thoughts reverberated in her mind with newfound clarity.
Yelena’s unexpected disappearance turned out to be far more favorable than Y/N had initially thought. And to add to the intrigue, Steve had not only left her with his phone number but with his jacket and an open invitation to call him whenever she wanted. The weight of these revelations settled upon her, igniting a mix of curiosity and anticipation.
The day was shaping out to be a good one. Or so she thought.

fanart for T33la’s lovely fic, Flipbook. please give it a read! it’s an achingly warm exploration of a much-needed conversation post-SAINW, and is filled to the brim with evocative prose and dialogue. ^_^
[Image ID: A two page digital comic with a painterly rendering style. The color scheme transitions from dark blues and purples at the top to a red orange color at the bottom.
Page one: The upper portion centers a far away planet earth with clouds swirling around it. The clouds expand and show sketches of different scenes from the story. The first scene in the top left is of Donny working at his cluttered desk with a thoughtful expression, chin resting on one hand and a pen in the other. He works on a small drawing attached to a pegbar. The second scene in the top right shows a paper airplane flying in front of a dark sky. The third scene shows Mikey reaching down between machinery and pipes to grab the flipbook with a curious and somewhat awed expression. The fourth scene shows Donny and Mikey lying on the floor and hugging tightly, both looking like they're crying. The fifth scene shows a memory from the future. Mikey stands with his shell to the camera, his severed arm barely visible, while Donny stands beside him, looking back with a mournful expression. Their figures are silhouetted against an electric sky. Below all of these scenes, earth moves incrementally closer until it fills the bottom of the page. A balloon flies above it, the string twisting along with the clouds.
Page two: The bright clouds from the previous page extend into this one, crawling down the sides. The top half shows the inside of a helicopter cockpit. Donny and Mikey are huddled together, their masks pulled down around their necks. Donny leans his head against Mikey's shoulder as Mikey thumbs through the flip book, both of them watching it quietly. Below this scene, a humanoid robot in a sketchy pen style stands from a bird's eye view. It looks like the robot has been cut out from a piece of paper and pasted into the scene. It reaches out to hold the balloon string. It's surrounded by patches of grass, sunflowers, and a few large trees that frame the edges of the page. The warm color palette relays a sense of peace.
