one theme i really love in one piece is the idea that things really will get better even if the process is long and arduous. like we see so many characters struggling for so long and then finally meeting people who help them and finding happiness. like i lose hope a lot and think i am not meant for lasting happiness but this show really reminds me that things will get better <3 like yes its a long process of waiting but eventually it will happen. you have survived 100% of the shit life has thrown at you and you just have to believe that trend will continue.

i think thats why when saul told robin she will meet friends and find happiness it really resonated with me. and when reiju similarly told sanji that the sea is vast and that there are people out there that will treat him well. sanji and robin are both characters who were told basically since they were born that they didn’t deserve life or happiness, but were able to eventually see that they are worthy of living and being happy. the world IS a big place, there ARE good people out there, and things WILL get better !!!

I know the dudebros who pitched the theory of Zoro scarring (possibly removing) his very own eye in order to draw out his Observation Haki did so because they thought it was cool and badass. But personally. I’d be fucking devastated man. Thinking of the context and specially considering Zoro’s mental state in Kuraigana Island after being left in pieces by Kuma and discovering he’d failed to be there for Luffy at Marineford- listen. He’s always been portrayed as having very self-punishing tendencies since at least Alabasta, so if this was truly what happened, I don’t think it’d be portrayed as an empowering moment of manliness at all. I certainly wouldn’t want it to be.

rewatching thriller bark bc it’s my favorite arc and i remembered something that’s debated pretty often. would sanji have survived taking luffy’s pain instead of zoro?

i honestly don’t think so. my reason for thinking this is mostly due to the fact that zoro has a stronger will to live than sanji. zoro has this obsessive need to stay alive. he has to be the strongest swordsman for kuina. he has to stay alive to protect the crew. he has to stay alive to help luffy become king of the pirates. he will not let himself die before then.

on the other hand, sanji thinks of his life as lesser and will sacrifice himself in service of others if it is for a reason he deems as “the greater good.” obviously it’s a result of trauma and how his family members drilled into his head that he’s “worthless” or “not worth anything.” it could also possibly be something he got from his mother, who’d sacrificed herself to make sure sanji wasn’t like judge or the other vinsmokes. we see evidence of this in the baratie arc and in wci. both times, sanji is willing to throw his life and his dreams away to preserve the lives of others, more specifically, his crew. he wants to prove his worth through “protecting” his crew and the only way to fully do that in sanji’s eyes is to sacrifice himself. so i think that sanji would have seen the taking of his captain’s pain as a way to pay back everything luffy had done and would 100% be okay with death in that moment.

Seriously. He loves them so much and they are willing to help him commit atrocities and it’s just so good. They’re the thing that keeps him from being a full Doflamingo clone; they’re more than willing to kill and die for him but he left them behind on Zou not because they’re weak, but because he didn’t want them sacrificing themselves for him. Doffy wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice his “family”, but Law’s not quite willing to cross that line.

I'm thinkn.. what does ps8 Kuron and Lance's relationship look like after lance wakes up? of course Kuron is Lance's Little Guy TM but also they never really got the chance to truly bond and become friends, and now Kuron is. y'know. being Kuron.. and lance is full of grief and trauma and also The Horrors

It'll be really fucking awkward for both of them indeed!! But not nearly as awkward. The timeline and the story ideas are not clear but like i feel like there is some shit going on during Lance wakes up and he takes a long time (maybe i'll bring my quintessence ideas for this? Maybe) and when he wakes up he isnt exactly There at first. So like by the time Lance wakes up, Kuron has already had a lot of his character development

And yeah Lance and Kuron is a bit complicated relationship cause like i have said Kuron is grateful for Lance for actually saving him, but also he's a bit angry and most importantly confused cause just why? Why all this? Why now? How did you? What happened to you? And just this confusion that is plaguing since he got his new body.

Meanwhile Lance genuinely cares about Kuron but also is y'know. Busy. Not to mention Lance kinda expected Kuron to be like he was 'used' to be, or rather the rosy eyed version that was Kuron was 'a sweet sensitive guy who can do no wrong and Did Not deserve That' (which isnt wrong but also) (also same with Allura)

But this is something that can be talked out, and it might take some time and development for both of them but by the end i think it's just hugs and a big healing moment for both of them and it would be like a promise to bond and stuff

That being said this isnt exactly final, cause like i said i am still trying to figure out the timeline and story plot and everything so this is very much going to change

I'll go first, I don't mind saying when I was wrong. True, in the past I may have suggested that the vast majority of female characters in One Piece come off as ever so slightly, "leaning into sexist tropes with unadulterated joy; it's the misogynistic tropes equivalent of a child running naked through a grocery store. It's right there, everyone sees it, yet people shut up and continue shopping in part because, well, these days you just expect most people to cover that junk! What would you even say? And if you DO speak up and call out the inappropriate, be prepared for blank stares and tantrums; but THEY don't mind! THEY don't think it's wrong! You're just being mean!"

However, I see now that I rushed to judgement and the reality of the situation is far more nuanced. With that in mind, I was just wondering if someone could help answer some of the questions I have.

Like: Why does Oda believe that it's illegal for (maternal) female characters to survive other character's backstories?

More importantly, why hasn't someone just reached out to explain the misconception!? It can't be that difficult. If nothing else, just have a lawyer or judge or other expert in censorship on hand. Or is the one of those cases where back in highschool his friends made something up and then kept pretending it was real to see if he'd believe you and not only did he fall for it, it took over 20 years before he learned that, what, no that's not illegal. That would be crazy if it were an actual law. Cause you know, after the first 10 years I think yeah you have to just lean into it. Pretend it's a creative decision on your part and definitely not because you were terrified of being sentenced to a slow and humiliating public death.

Just to be clear that's definitely what's up, right? I mean, I'm struggling to think of another reason....able excuse why a story that I really enjoy keeps playing the same old sexist tropes cards again and again to the point of absurdity. It would just help if I had a valid excus- explanation. I almost mistyped the word explanation.

#love when artists make creative use of their medium #such a clever way to expand the world and make it feel bigger and more real without wasting page count #like these side stories really make the op world feel lived in because u get to see things happening in parallel with the main storyline #things that have nothing to do with luffy #the world doesnt revolve around the straw hats! things are happening elsewhere! both important things and silly adventures #like one piece is BIG this world is huge and always growing and theres so much to see and explore #but you dont want to sacrifice the main storyline so you get these adventures that take only 1 page every week #its so much better than say. have a full chapter covering these events #oda gets to tell these extra stories without wasting the readers time #he can use them to keep track of side characters AND be silly and whimsical AND expand the lore #i love them so much #we need to get another decks of the world cover story soon
