Rocket e Peter sedevano sul bordo di una scogliera, ad ammirare una gloriosa esplosione che illuminò il cielo verde e blu di Abel dei colori dell’aurora. L’onda d’urto era così forte da scagliare a diversi metri di distanza roccie e polvere, creando spaccature in scogli di pietra che emergevano dal terreno. Rocket esultò alzando le braccia al cielo. Si sentiva come se fosse in cima al mondo e gli fosse permesso di pisciare di sotto; non riusciva a smettere di ridere. Peter, intanto, si godeva lo spettacolo facendo oscillare le gambe e avrebbe voluto che quel momento di pace durasse per sempre. L’unica nota stonata era il dover indossare delle maschere per poter respirare. "Peter…" "Si?" Rocket avrebbe voluto ringraziarlo, dirgli che si stava divertendo da morire, ma non era sicuro che le parole sarebbero bastate a esprimere come si sentiva; posò il joystick per terra e, vincendo la sua naturale ritrosia, lo abbracciò stretto. Peter, sconvolto, rimase immobile temendo un’aggressione, ma una volta capito che stava succedendo si godette il momento. Quando Rocket si separò da lui aveva un sorriso felice sul viso e Peter sentì il proprio cuore accelerare. Le occasioni in cui Rocket era felice in sua compagnia stavano diventando sempre più numerose e nasceva in lui il bisogno di proteggere quella felicità. “Peter...” “Si?”
