I miiiiiiight have gotten carried away -------------------------------------------------
“They’re not really twins,” Mare said as he, Mad, Phantom, and Blank walked into what looked like an abandoned building, the second they entered everything changed to give off a more royal feeling. Everything was colored either black or white but it was decorated like a castle, like Dracula’s castle with caskets and gravestones being a main part of the decor.
“They were born at the exact same time, to the second,” Phantom said from his spot behind Mad. Mare was in front with Blank holding his hand.
“And they have been inseparable ever since,” Mare added. “Unus Annus.”
“Unus Annus...Unus Annus...That’s one year in Latin, why is that their name?” Mad asked.
“There was a thought they’d only live till they were one, like us,” Mare explained. “But we were twins so our nickname is different.”
“Interesting.” Mad hummed as he scribbled in his notebook. “I have so many questions.”
“Don’t get too carried away, get them upset and they’ll take away any emotions you have,” Phantom said. “I’ve seen it before, it’s some scary shit.”
“Even more interesting.” Mad kept writing away.
“Blank stay behind me and stay with Mad,” Mare said as he opened up a large set of double doors, one white and one black. Mare felt Blank move so that he was now behind him, but was still holding his hand.
The little group walked into a room mostly empty except for two thrones at the end. One white and one black. Two men sat in the thrones, one wearing all white and the other wearing all black. One larger and one smaller. The smaller one was in all black, legs crossed in front of him and hands clasped together on his lap. He stared out with an emotionless face and darkened eyes. The larger one was in all white, legs tucked under him and he smiled happily at the phone in his lap, fingers tapping at the scream and soft gaming noises could be heard from it.
“Annus, we have guests.” The smaller one spoke, tone flat and even.
“Oh! Cool!” The larger one, Annus, perked up and placed his phone on the ground. “Hi!”
“Opposites,” Mad said to himself.
“Mare, Phantom, who is he?” Unus asked, uncrossing his legs and handing, hands staying together.
“This is my Claimed One, Mad,” Mare said. “He’s a researcher.”
“And a Human!” Annus jumped up to his feet. “One of The Twins is with a Human? I bet the other Demons don’t like the idea that you won’t make purebred high-ranked Demons.”
“Purebred? Demons have that in their system?” Mad asked. “I thought a Demon is a Demon and ranking his just based off of power?”
“It is, but there’s a belief that if a high-rank and a high-rank have a child, the child going to be a high-rank themselves and possibly stronger than the parents. Myself, Phantom, Unus, and Annus are examples of that.”
“Wow.” Mad whispered and was writing once more.
“And the one behind you?” Unus started walking down towards them. “Who are they?”
“He’s my son,” Mare said.
“So you did have a purebred?” Annus asked and joined Unus. Both of them right in front of the group now.
“No, he’s not mine from birth.”
“Hey, buddy.” Annus waved a hand and Blank peeked out, shyly waving back. “Wait...Unus, he looks like you.”
“He does,” Unus said, studying Blank’s face for a second. “It appears my son did survive.”
“Your...what?” Mare’s hand unconsciously moved out towards Blank, creating a barrier between Annus and him.
“I found him in an ally, wrapped up in a blanket and almost dead,” Phantom spoke through gritted teeth.
“We assumed he was dead.” Unus was unaffected. “They wanted an offspring from at least one of us and we agreed I’d be the best since it would be easier for me to not have a bond with the child when taken away at birth. Neither of us have plans to be parents, for the time being, we’re fairly happy with just each other, but we knew we wouldn’t be left alone until we gave the others what they wanted.”
“How does that lead to leaving him in an alley?” Mare asked.
“The mother died giving birth, a sign that the child would be fairly powerful, but the child came out barely breathing as well. The Healers examined them and concluded that he had passed away, no more breathing and we had wrapped him for burial and left him in the casket for a moment but when we came back, the child was gone.”
“He was in a casket?” Mare looked at Phantom.
“I thought it was a black box.” Phantom protested.
“No harm was done, we assumed he was eaten by wildlife and we moved on.”
“The fuck, dude?” Phantom said.
“Death happens. No need to dwell on it.”
“But he’s...no bond.” Mare checked on Mad and saw that he was just writing the entire time.
“Can we take him then?” Annus asked.
“No!” Mare moved so that his whole body was now in the way of Annus and Phantom just hissed in response as well.
“No,” Unus said when Annus looked at him.
“But his powers-”
“No,” Unus said again and Annus slumped his shoulders. “We can’t take him away from his family. I am sure they will let him reach his full potential. Mare and Phantom are just as strong as we are and show a clear affection for…”
“Blank,” Mare answered.
“Blank.” Unus nodded his head.
“Fine.” Annus was in a pull pout and he went over to Unus. He went behind him, wrapped his arms around, and tucked his face away into the crook of Unus’ neck. Mad caught the shift in Unus’ face, the little smile when Annus nuzzled against him. The smile dropped quickly before he spoke to them again.
“Was there a reason for this visit?” Unus asked.
“Like I said, Mad’s a researcher and was curious about you two,” Mare said.
“Does he have any questions?”
“No, I’m good.” Mad looked down at the several pages of notes he had. “This should keep me busy for a while.”
“Really? We haven’t talked for long?” Annus now had his chin resting on Unus’ shoulder.
“I might come back to ask some questions, but I need more time to prepare for that with the new information I’ve gathered.”
“Then we’ll be seeing you again,” Unus said.
“I look forward to it,” Mad said with a smile, noting that there was no reaction from Unus, but there was one from Mare.
“Let’s head out.” Mare laid his arm across Mad’s shoulder after turning him around.
“Bye!” Blank waved as he shouted, getting lead out of the room with the others.
“Goodbye,” Unus said while Annus waved with both hands.
