Ahsoka and Praise
Thinking of this moment:
Tumblr media
versus this one:
Tumblr media
And this one
Tumblr media
I really think Tales of the Jedi helps put Anakin/Ahsoka’s confrontation in the Mortis Arc into context. Ahsoka asks Anakin if he is proud of her.
For Ahsoka, the droid test in totj was easy. It wasn’t unfair for Anakin to challenge her and present her with something more rigorous. But he should have praised her. Everyone else seemed impressed, even excited at Ahsoka’s proficiency. Yet the person she really needs the reassurance from is her teacher. Her master. Her brother. He doesn’t give her much. She’s a teenager. While she’s resilient and wise, she still needs the positive feedback from adults in her life. Anakin isn’t even on time for her test.
So when Ahsoka confronts Anakin, her deepest fears and frustrations are founded in insecurity and his lack of recognition. He pushes her. It leads her to survive time and time again, but he doesn’t always allow her to enjoy her accolades or provide her with the praise she needs.
In the 501st painting their helmets and armor in Ahsoka’s image, they provide her the recognition and honor she didn’t always receive from Anakin. They helped train her. They helped raise her. They saw how hard she worked and when she returned to them, they made sure to give her what she deserved.

the line “and with any luck, this will all be over soon.” fucks me up SO BADLY because it’s 23 years before it’s all over— and then anakin’s dead, ahsoka’s been flung across the galaxy trying to escape her past, and there are only these two kids who have to pick up the pieces.
“you capture maul, i kill grievous, and with any luck, this will all be over soon.”
THAT WAS THE PLAN. THE PLAN WAS CAPTURE MAUL, KILL GRIEVOUS. AND THEN IT’LL ALL BE OVER. BUT NO, IT WASNT. im eating glass

Five compelling deaths for Ahsoka Tano that were squandered:
1.) During the Mortis Arc:
Because, I mean, she was dead. So…..
2.) During the Wrong Jedi Arc:
We all know Ahsoka was innocent from the start. But, what if that didn’t come to light? Hear me out. Ahsoka is framed for the temple bombing , and the subsequent crimes committed in relation to the bombing. The proof that she’s innocent does not surface. She is put on trial, and is found guilty of the bombing as the evidence was stacked a mile-high against her (keep in mind, we only know that she was innocent because we were following her point of view during the entire arc). She is sentenced, and is put to death for the crimes. Anakin is furious, both at the council and the senate. Does he stay with the Jedi? Does he still follow Palpatine after this? I don’t know. Maybe not. Barriss, overwhelmed by the guilt of having her ex-girlfriend executed for her crimes, probably doesn’t make it out either…some Romeo and Juliet shit. To add fuel to the flames, the evidence that Ahsoka was innocent resurfaces after she’s gone. The whole Jedi order is rocked by this discovery, and everyone is both shocked and devastated that they let a 17-year-old kid take the fall in such a way. Realizing that they have been completely blinded by the dark side, Yoda steps down as grandmaster. Mace Windu takes Yoda’s place, sees the rising darkness, pulls out of the war, and brings all of the Jedi back to the temple to regain focus. During this time, they discover Palpatine is the dark lord of the Sith, and a team of Jedi go and destroy him.
3.) During her duel with Maul:
I’m not going to pretend that Maul is formidable or super strong, but Ahsoka was buffed during that battle. Maul is older, and has bested stronger Jedi (see Qui-Gon Jinn). Maul’s arrogance and over-confidence probably got the best of him. But, what if it didn’t? What if Maul defeated Ahsoka? Bo-Katan could have come back concerned about Ahsoka’s well-being (because let’s face it, Ahsoka is the only other person in the galaxy that Bo doesn’t despise), and as Bo re-enters the throne room, Maul strikes Ahsoka down. Bo-Katan quickly realizes that Maul has killed yet another person that she loves. Maul is distracted by his victory, and in a fit of utter rage, Bo-Katan shoots Maul right between the eyes and drops him. Bo-Katan takes the dark saber from a now dead Maul, and goes on a rampage until she slices Gar Saxon into a million little pieces. Oddly (or maybe not-so-oddly), because she won the dark saber in combat per the creed, the night of a thousand tears does not happen.
4.) During Order 66:
Nearly every Jedi in the Galaxy died, but Ahsoka was spared because Rex gave her about thirteen seconds before he executed the order. Thanks to Fives, he knew what was happening. What if he didn’t hesitate? What if he didn’t flinch because he lost total control? What if he did still hesitate, but Ahsoka didn’t react? What if Rex tagged her with that fatal blow? Holy shit. I tear up thinking about it. Imagine Rex immediately realizing that he just ended his little sister’s life on that bridge. He would’ve been consumed by pain and guilt. It wouldn’t have taken Rex as long as it took Cody to get to that point either. Rex would have immediately pictured that skinny little kid in the tube top (f*^% Lucas for that BTW) coming down the landing ramp on Christophsis. He would have run up to her limp body, grabbed her and wept uncontrollably. It would have been so painful. After Rex came to his senses, he would immediate gather his brothers together to share Five’s message. All of the clones on the Tribunal would be outraged, and they would devise a plan to remove the inhibitor chips. After removal, the clones on the ship would make it their mission to save other clones in the galaxy from similar fates, jump starting Rex’s rebellion, but with A LOT more help.
5.) During her duel with Vader:
In fairness, she really shouldn’t have survived this. In all honesty, she didn’t. She died. Again. And, she was resurrected in the weirdest, least Star Wars’y way possible. So, what if she hadn’t been? What if she’d died like she probably should have? What if she wasn’t brought back from the dead through a time-portal? Well. Vader would have been an even bigger piece of shit. I’m not confident that it’s possible, but yeah, damn. It was one thing to watch him strike down old Obi-Wan (who had multiple chances to defeat him, but didn’t), but for him to slice through Ahsoka? Ouch. Not only would Anakin/Vader have murdered children, he would have slaughtered his whole-ass family save the twins who he doesn’t know about. It would have been compelling is all I’m saying. I would like to say that he would feel remorse, and turn from the dark side, but Ahsoka’s death would have been inconsequential to him. It wouldn’t have mattered. He wouldn’t have given a shit. He didn’t. I’m sure he assumed she’d died anyway after that epic explosion. Also, evading this particular demise set up a precedent: Ahsoka cannot die. I mean, if Vader couldn’t take her out, then nothing else in the galaxy can either. So, in short and in closing, she really is going to be Gandalf.

Jedi Vault
Summary: During the Mandalorian and Jedi war, a young Padawan finds herself captured.
CW: claustrophobia, teenage captive, capture, restraints, muzzle
Ciera groaned. Her mouth tasted of metal. Pain pounded behind her eyes. Every muscle in her body felt sore like she had run through her master’s drills a hundred times. Her skin tingled, like the aftermath of a blaster stun.
The pull from sleep was a long one. When she finally cracked her eyelids open, her vision was murky. They slipped shut and she fought to open them again. A few rounds of this and her vision cleared as she returned to wakefulness.
The sight before her was just as confusing. All she could see was a glass window–just wide enough for her eyes–surrounded by a gray wall, mere centimeters from her face. The light illuminating the darkness was blood red, like that of a Sith’s blade.
Ciera made to reach out and touch the wall, only her hand didn’t move. Her muddled brain detected the cold, bulky cuffs that pinned her wrists at her sides, then the same around her ankles. Her heart leaped in her chest and she strained her neck to look down at her restrained limbs. Her head refused to respond. A band of metal sculpted her face, locking her jaw and trapping her head in place.
Ciera’s heart pounded against her rib cage. Her chest felt tight as she tried to breathe. She pulled and twisted against the restraints, only succeeding to bruise her skin. Her eyes–the only thing she could move–darted around wildly, searching for an escape. The walls to her prison greeted her, a coffin no bigger than her own body.
Panic made her dizzy. A scream tore at her throat, trapped by her involuntarily clenched teeth and the muzzle over her lips. Her master’s voice echoed in her memory, but the words about calm and meditation and focus were muted.
Ciera concentrated on her breaths. A deep breath in and out through her nose. She ignored stale taste of her oxygen. Breathe in, and out. Repeat the rhythm.
Gradually, Ciera felt her heart calm and her mind become sharper. She needed a clear mind if she was ever going to find a way out.
A mask swallowed her view, drawing a jolt of surprise from the Padawan. The red and silver helmet with the black T-visor stared at her, expression unreadable. After a long moment, Ciera squirmed, feeling like an animal in an exhibit under his scrutiny. Finally, the Mandalorian pulled away and Ciera could see him and his companion standing below.
They looked at each other. The woman had one hand on her hip and gestured casually with the other. The man folded his arms and his helmet bobbed in response. They were talking, and Ciera couldn’t hear a single word. All she could hear was her own steady breathing and the hiss of oxygen.
Ciera closed her eyes. Unbidden tears pricked the corners.
“Master, are you out there? Are you alive? Please, help me. I don’t know what to do.”
There was no response. Ciera wasn’t sure if it was because he was dead or that her prison cut her off from the Force. She felt hollow.
The cage shuddered. Ciera opened her eyes to find the Mandalorians gone and she was moving. Guided by invisible beings, her coffin moved deeper into the dark halls of the Mandalorian palace.
They placed her in a lift and the Mandalorians from before stepped into view again. The man pushed the lowest button. Ciera watched the numbers count down. Her heart sank with each level as hope for escape or rescue dimmed.
At last, the lift stopped and the doors slid open. They were moving her again, past what were clearly prison cells. Mandalorians sat or paced in clear cells, no privacy to be had. Ciera would trade what they had if she could be free of this coffin.
They passed them all, stopping before a set of heavy metal doors. The woman punched in a code. The doors slowly slid open and Ciera gasped in horror.
Rows of metal cages identical to her own filled the room. Countless pairs of eyes peered through the windows, weary and frightened.
Against her will, Ciera’s cell moved into place; another nameless, faceless captive among the masses.
“Master? Where are you? Help. Help me.”
Her pleas went unanswered. The two Mandalorians turned their backs and walked away. Judging by their body language, they were still chatting as if they had taken out the trash.
The vault doors sealed shut behind them, thrusting Ciera into darkness. The red glow of her prison her only comfort.
At last, the tears fell down her cheeks, dripping onto the cursed muzzle.
Trapped, immobile, helpless, all Ciera could do was be patient and wait and hope her master was coming.

Favorite Clone Wars Moment?
I’ll admit that I’ve seen more of Rebels than The Clone Wars, but The Siege of Mandalore always stands out to me. (I’ve seen it two or three times now.) Probably the part right before Ahsoka gets the auditory mental message of Anakin killing Windu, where it’s just showing the ship full of clones with bass instruments playing… because we all know something bad is about to happen, but the characters don’t. Ugh, it was so good.
But also, that part with Rex and Ahsoka (I ship them a little, ngl) when she’s trying to locate the chip in his brain and they’re both saying: “I am one with the force and the force is with me.”
Idk, that movie was so beautifully done.

Dave Filoni: You get to compose for The Siege of Mandalore again.
Kevin Kiner:
Crying over the use of the snare drums near the end with Ahsoka’s theme because it gives it a militaristic sound. This is Ahsoka, these are her men, and they have been ordered to kill her. Her training with them saves her life from them.

There’s something about both Maul and Moff Gideon as antagonists and their relationship to the Mandalorians. Maul took advantage of their culture to get what he wanted, and now Gideon is using their resources against them to get what he wants. Mauls “I’ll challenge him to single combat in front of his men. He will not deny me” and “it is not the way of your people to hide, here in the gutters . . . I promise that if you die you’ll die as warriors”. Taking advantage of their culture and rituals to get what he wants, and his final, mocking “die well, Mandalorian” to make it clear that he never cared about any of it. And Gideon, who is using the fact their planet has been ruined by his bombing as a convenient cloak for his operations, who’s using the steel mined on their planet for his own ends, who cares nothing for the Great Forge, the sacred site where his base of operations is. The way both of them used these things that are really important to the Mandalorians to get their own way, possessing parts of their culture without ever caring about that culture. It makes both of them convincing and threatening villains
