content: leo valdez x daughter of poseidon! reader fic (ft. my baby boy tyson) warning: i wanna say none but i dont trust myself, language probs author's note: okay okay so this one was the first winner!! the rest will follow in order with how many votes they got and such. but first LETS PUT A LITTLE RESPECT ON TYSONS NAME YALL THAT'S MY SON OF POSEIDON FR FR HES JUST A LITTLE GUY I CANT-

“dude! dude! dude!” y/n called as she ran from the big house toward percy, who was sitting on the steps outside of cabin three with annabeth, both of them looking up at her yells.

“bro! bro! bro!” percy called back with a laugh, sharing a look with annabeth, who shook her head at the two siblings as she went back to her architectural sketches for something.

“i’ve got news!” y/n cheers, standing before percy with her hands pulled up to her chest and an unbeatable smile on her lips. percy motioned for her to go on, looking at her suspiciously.

“my favorite brother will be joining us at camp for the next three days,” y/n announced, proudly, causing percy to jump up to his feet too.

“no way! what?” he cheered, the two of them soon jumping in a circle. annabeth laughed at them, getting joy from their joy. leo had walked over at some point, looking at the children of poseidon with concern. annabeth waved him over to sit next to her, giving them the perfect view of the excited teens.

“what did i miss?” leo questioned, unable to take his eyes off the pair but turning his head towards annabeth.

“tyson, their brother, is coming to stay at camp for a few days. they don’t see him very often because he works with the cyclops with their father, so they tend to get a bit excited,” annabeth explained with a shrug. leo nodded, having already been told about tyson by y/n. she loved to rave about him, proudly showing the picture of him she kept in her cabin at any needed moment.

“i call dibs on snack duty! you didn’t even get anything good last time,” y/n insisted, pointing at percy as they sat down next to their respective significant others, both a little out of breath and sweaty, but smiling nonetheless.

“whatever. tyson liked those pickle chips,” percy huffed, jokingly rolling his eyes.

“yeah, but i did not like the smell of your guys' breath,” y/n replied, scrunching her face up, which earned her a laugh.

“okay, okay, fair. so i'm on movie duty then?” percy questioned and y/n nodded.

“yes, cause tyson’s on fort duty, duh,” answered y/n before she spun in leo’s arms and looked up at him, who looked down at her with a raised brow and a smile

“hi, hey,” she rapidly shot out before pressing her lips against his and promptly pulling back.

“gross!” percy called, earning him an elbow against his rib from annabeth.

“please, i was tortured by you two for like five summers, i’ve earned my dues,” y/n replied, squinting at the two with a glare.

“fair enough.”

tyson showed up a few days later, a large dopey smile on his face as he waved the hippocampus that gave him a ride away. y/n and percy were, obviously, the first to greet him and get him settled in their cabin. most of the older campers knew tyson or at least knew of him, so they weren’t really too phased by the cyclops being at camp. it was the younger ones who took a little more time, but with how sweet tyson was it really wasn’t a problem. leo had gotten caught up in the forges, annabeth having asked him if he could roadtest something for her, which sent him down a rabbit hole of trying to figure it out.

“leo?!” y/n’s voice called through the forge, leo’s eyes moving from the twisted metal in front of him to the girl standing in the doorway of the forge, along with a bulkier and taller figure.

“hey, honey. give me a minute, yeah?” he called as both of his hands were occupied. he didn’t hear anything in response but he trusted that she was probably just showing tyson some of the new projects or something like that. after a bit, leo walked up, shoving his goggles up and dusting his hands off on his once white shirt.

“leo, this is tyson, my brother. tyson, this is leo, my boyfriend,” y/n introduced, gesturing between the two. leo held his hand out to the cyclops, smiling widely.

“hey, man, nice to meet you. y/ns, here, loves to rave about you,” mused leo before he was promptly pulled into a bone crushing huge.

“right, sorry, tyson’s a hugger,” y/n winced, forgetting to mention that to leo, who groaned as he was let go. he shot a look at the girl, who giggled quietly behind her hand.

“a new brother! very exciting, sister, and he can build things!” tyson cheered, happily nodding his head. leo blushed at the insinuation and y/n coughed, opening her mouth to correct him.

“oh, tyson, he’s not- we’re not- he’s just my boyfriend. when…when we get married, he’d be your brother,” y/n tried to explain, her voice catching on the word ‘when.’ then she shared a look with leo, which just solidified her ‘when’ and not ‘if.’

“oh,” tyson frowned, his eyebrows furrowing and leo had a feeling tears would be next.

“y/n mentioned you work in forges, right? come on, i’ll show you what i’m working on, could use some help,” leo redirected, easily, nodding his head back towards the forges. tyson’s eye lit up and he looked over at y/n for permission, but she was looking at leo with a melty and soft look in her eyes.

"sister?"

“hmm? oh, yeah, you’re good, tyson. just bring him back to percy and i before dinner, okay, lee?” y/n asked and leo gave her a salute, which tyson mimicked with a little laugh. y/n watched them go, her heart full of love and a blinding smile on her face.

right before dinner, percy and y/n were making their way towards the forge to pick up tyson, but tyson came running out of the forge in excitement, something clasped safety in his large hands. the siblings shared a look as leo trailed after him.

“percy! y/n! look!” he proudly cheered, stopping before the two and unfurling his hands to reveal a small metallic horse sculpture. he squealed in excitement on seeing it again.

“wow! super cool, tyson!” percy cheered, clapping the cyclops on the back.

“you make that yourself or did leo?” y/n jumped in, beaming a smile between her boyfriend and little brother.

"oh, all tyson. i only helped here and there," leo mused, holding his hands up with a wide smile and a wink to you and percy.

"yup. all me," tyson echoed, clearly having grown fond of leo in the past few hours.

"good job, buddy! wanna go show annie?" percy offered with a wide smirk, which had tyson nodding his head and following after his brother. you stayed behind with leo, watching your siblings go as leo wrapped his arms around your waist and rested his head on your shoulder.

"thank you. for hanging out with him today," you whispered and you could feel leo shrug as he pressed a kiss to your shirt clad shoulder.

"course. he's a good guy and handy in the forges. being fireproof tends to be helpful," leo replied and you giggled, turning to make eye contact with him.

"and you'd know all about that, huh?" you taunted and leo rolled his eyes, releasing his hands from you, which just caused you to laugh harder.

"whatever. and to think, i made you a present!" huffed the son of hephaestus, turning his nose up at the girl.

"ooo, what'd ya make?" she questioned, poking at his side with her fingers.

"no. mean girlfriend's don't get gifts," added leo, trying to dodge the attack of her fingers the best he could.

"c'mon, don't be that way, pretty boy," you pouted, batting your eyes at him in a way that had leo instantly folding, reaching back into his tool belt with a tiny shake of his head.

"that's an abuse of power," he stated before presenting you with a metal lily, delicately sculpted and stretched out of metal. and you were instantly swooning, gently caressing it with your fingers before darting your wide eyes up to him.

"only the longest lasting flowers for my girl," leo added, winking with a smirk. you rolled your eyes but clutched the flower to your chest like it was your child.

"y/n! stop flirting and come help with the snacks!" percy called, giving you a pointed look and setting a hand against his hip like a mother. you huffed at him, sticking your tongue out before turning to leo and pressing a kiss to his cheek.

"you're the sweetest boy, valdez," you whispered to the skin of his cheek before racing off, shouts that you'll make it to cabin three first, which sent both of your brothers barreling after you. leo watched this with a smile and a blush slowly rising to where your lips had been.

yeah, he was going to marry this girl. tyson'd throw a fit if he didn't. and he just couldn't have that, could he?

He sucks at puzzles. He’s smart and tactical, but puzzles are on another level of difficulty for him. 

He likes doodling a lot. If he has a pen and a surface to draw on, he will sketch a small smiley or a caterpillar. It has become such a habit that he doesn’t even think about it when he does it. It got so bad that once, Keegan called him out on it mid-doodle, leaving Logan embarrassed for a week. 

He loves the ocean, but beaches annoy him. He hates sand. (I firmly believe his hate for them is from Hesh throwing sand in his face as children.)

He has a picture of him and Hesh as kids in his wallet. He feels calmer when he looks at it, getting into the habit of peeking at it when stressed. 

He’s an avid Deftones enjoyer. He loves Beware and Diamond Eyes. 

He likes caramel-scented things, but he doesn’t like the taste of it. 

He has some insane dirt on Elias, and, of course, Hesh knows all of it. 

For some odd reason, he’s phenomenal at parallel parking.

People call him DILF all the time. It has happened too many times to count. He finds it funny, while Hesh and Logan are horrified every time. 

He doesn’t know how to put on chapstick. He puts it between his lips and swipes it back and forth, not on his lips. 

He got so much action when he was a teenager/young adult. He tells Logan and Hesh to “live a little” so they can experience that life, too. 

He doesn’t listen to music often, but when he does, he listens to either Korn or Chris Isaak. 

He adores Riley, sometimes stealing him from Hesh without warning.

He secretly enjoys ASMR. It helps him unwind and de-stress, but not sleep, surprisingly.

He’s excellent at the game Mafia. 

He has made way too many people giggle excitedly because of his voice. He finds it amusing but disturbing at the same time. He knows it’s attractive, but that many people? He has even made Elias giggle like a schoolgirl because of his vocal folds. 

Keegan strikes me as a Slipknot fan. He finds Killpop and Vermillion to be sexy. 

He loves grocery shopping. 

He talks to himself a lot. He’s antisocial and quiet around others, but when Keegan’s alone, he keeps having full-on conversations with himself. Merrick caught him doing it once - he never brought it up again. 

He enjoys lasagna a bit too much. 

He had a motorcycle phase as a young adult. It got so bad he learned how to do a wheelie on them, but his love for them has died down in the many years he’s been alive. 

He thinks wine is gross.

I started this drawing in August or September, got as far as less than half the lineart, then never got around to finishing it. I rarely finish art after abandoning it but then I played Pikmin 2 and really loved it, so I went back to this. Louie wasn't my favorite character when I started this but he is now, so that was another motivator. I really like how this came out but it wasn't easy, I had to constantly reference that render of Mario smoking a blunt for both the perspective and shading. I know this sounds like a joke but please believe me when I say I made the sketch over a traced version of that image because I couldn't get the perspective right for the life of me. Anyways, as much as I love how this came out, I can't help but feel like I made the most social media site-unfriendly image ever and the quality will be obliterated the moment I hit post. I apologize in advance for that. (the colors may also display differently on certain screens, as it looks different on my phone)

I also included an alternate version that's more akin to what I initially envisioned before I tried coloring everything because I still like how it looks. The sketch is something silly I made after unlocking the Louie's Dark Secret cutscene a few days ago, but I've had this joke in my head ever since I learned about the plot of Pikmin 2. The "Houngry" was taken from this meme.

- luka tries to draw all three of you together but it literally looks like all of your proportions got inverted…. how silly. then he sticks to drawing little sketches based on bands he likes 😭

- nathaniel guides both of your hands like he’s obligated to but really this is just his one chance to hold your hands without getting shy

- luka does the same for you two but with his guitar and nathaniel actually catches on quick because he has good muscle memory

- if you’re bad at it luka is actually really patient with you and a good teacher (uses kisses as leverage when you get a chord right)

- actually they would definitely do the cutest thing ever for your anniversary. nathaniel draws you three and luka adds some stuff around the borders of the page. luka also teaches nathaniel a simple song on the guitar and they perform it for you <333

- luka always prefers to be on the outside of cuddling. you and nathaniel switch around in the middle but it’s mostly you

Batfamily Shenanigans:Head-canons Pt: 2

Dick and Tim have the most inside jokes,Jason ignores them and Damian is but jealous. But the two bonded a lot before the arrival/return of the other two.

Jason takes his little brothers to Diner’s at 2 am. Alfred would rather he do it during regular hours,but then he remembers they’re nighttime activities and is just happy he’s not trying to shoot them.

Talia before having Damian loved seeing a young Dick Grayson as Robin.He was so full of cheer and it warmed Talia’s heart, she hoped to have a son as bright as him. (She did he’s just a little shy)

Cass doesn’t have her drivers license and prefers to be passenger princess.

Duke has naturally curly hair but cuts most of the time for easier management.

Jason can mimic voices the best. He can do a pretty decent Bruce Wayne impression and it has made Bruce ask his children multiple times if he sounds like that. Alfred gets a chuckle out of it too.

The Robins most definitely play pricks on JL members who annoy their Dad, that’s there job. Hal goes to pay his bills and all his passwords have been changed, Oliver is getting dressed for a party and all his clothes are pink.

Bruce is a big baby when he’s sick. He cannot find for hisself and his family take turns caring for him. Jason makes him soup, Tim gives him medicine, Damian and Duke make him rest, The girls block him from working on cases files and Alfred makes sure he has plenty of fluids. And if that fails they call in the big guns. Diana.

Speaking of Wonder Woman, she visits the Manor every Sunday and her and Damian feed and pet his animals.

Tim,Jason and Dick all have “R” tattoos. Dick promised Damian he could get on when he turns 18, and they let Damian sketch it too.

Dick’s is on his right hip, Jason’s is on his left wrist, and Tim’s is on his right ankle.

Stephanie and Selina are tied for the most ear piercings.

Jason is the only former Robin who can drive stick currently. Dick hasn’t done it in years but probably could after a few lessons, Tim never learned, Damian can but prefers not to. Jason is currently teaching Duke and Steph and had regretted it ever since.

Alfred enjoys making lunches for everyone still. Some days he gets to make everyone lunch. He first makes Damian(PB&J with crust cut off, and cut into triangles) and Duke’s(Ham and cheese toasted sandwich with pickles slices) school lunches.

Bruce usually leaves for the office before breakfast so when Tim eventually comes downstairs Alfred will have his breakfast Togo and both their lunches. (Usually for B it’s a BLT with turkey bacon and cheese. And Tim’s is Tuna and Swiss on whole grain bread.)

Dick on Tuesdays and Friday’s, sometimes Sundays spends the night the prior at the Manor. He’s usually the only home so Alfred can make whatever he wants for lunch. He’s top two favorite lunches are Janija one of the only dishes Alfred can make that tastes similar to how Dick’s Mom prepared it. And Bangers and Mash. When he first arrived he say Alfred eating this and wanted to try it. He always requests this dish,but only if he can eat it with Alfred.

Jason likes either Club subs or a simple pasta with fresh spinach and a cream sauce.

Depending on the day Alfred will drop off lunch to the Clocktower for Barbara and the girls. Sometimes the other birds are in town and he always knows when to make extra. Most of the times me it’s wrapped sandwiches a mix of cold cuts and vegetarian options. Barbara always get turkey with cheddar, Steph gets chicken salad on a croissant bread and Cass gets ham and cheese pinwheels.

He even makes weekly meals and drops them off for the Titans and Young Justice. Seeing as most of them cannot cook. He packs extra knowing their speedsters on each time. Looking at you Wally and Bart. They’re all just grateful they don’t have to eat Pizza or Big Belly Burger for a few nights. Dick enjoys when Alfred visits and so does Kory. Tim and his friends are over the moon to have Alfred visit them too, and Bart even makes request for his next meal.

The league even gets random lunch. They return from training and find fresh out meals at the sits. Batman just shrugs but Superman and Wonder Woman make him call Alfred so he can be thanked.

Sunday’s are days that’s it mandatory for everyone to come for dinner. Once a Month several members are the League are expected to come for dinner and everyone better be on their best behavior.No wants an angry butler, so everyone always attends.

Jason and Duke are the only people allowed to help with preparing food, Dick isn’t allowed because he sampled everything to the point he’s eaten half of the dish. Tim and Damian are assigned to setting the table. And Bruce must stay either in the living room or dinning room if Alfred even hears the grandfather clock tick he’s going to skin a bat.

Cass enjoys getting ingredients from the fridge and pantry for them. And Stephanie is on Bruce Watch, if he moves she sprays him with water like a misbehaving kitten.

Most the the time Barbara is greeting the guests and depending on is Stephanie is needed to help bring the food out Barbara will have Bruce greet everyone with her. She especially makes him greet Green Arrow and Green Lantern.

Sometimes Alfred asks other to bring dishes for a potluck.Clark will usually bring Jon,Lois and Conner with him and he’ll bring pies. Diana always bring Donna. Usually they bring wines and vegetables.Ollie and Dinah usually are late but the bring brownies and cobbler, Roy and Lian bring meatballs, Hal brings beer and he’s makes a mean Mac and cheese on his smoker, Barry and Iris bring sodas, Arthur provides fresh fish, and J’onn brings a tasty and beautiful charcuterie board.

It’s a blast and all the kids have fun too with their friends and Alfred swears he sees Bruce double over laughing at Hal and Barry fighting for the last brownie.

All in all the butler that would take on the entire League of Doom himself enjoys making food for his family and spending with them too.

Are the little primal babies boys or girls? One of each? Which one is older? Who do they resemble more? Are they identical or fraternal? Do they waddle to Honorary older brother Baki whenever they see him? What do they look like? Are they large babies? Would make sense given their parents’ sizes?

The questions you ask have no concrete answer. The twins are an amorphous existence that lurks in the collective subconscious of this community. How would you want them to be?

You asked for a sketch and I must say, after the birthing doodle I’ve reached the conclusion that realistic babies are not exactly my preferred thing to draw. Then I began pondering how to possibly sketch them without taking away from your imagination. I thought, well, now that they’re born, what’s next? Do they continue living in the modern world and follow modern standards? And then I remembered some scenes from Dragon Maid with Kanna going to school with other human children despite her being a dragon and how much I loved the design of the uniforms. So there you have it, the twins in classic Japanese kindergarten uniforms with the tiny yellow hats and a tinier name badge. I slapped some shorts underneath, so you can’t tell whether they’re boys, girls, or both. You decide it yourself.

Fable SMP Commission Experience 5/7

In this section, I'll be sharing sketches from what I call "Scene 4: Pre-Fist Fight," which covers the moment Centross appears in the cave to the moment the Reaver and Fable's sword are cast aside.

 "A shadow of Centross looms behind Fable... Centross swings the Reaver at Fable as he materializes a sword to block the Reaver."

Until I got confirmation from a cast member, I wasn't sure whether or not the glitching on Fable's hand stayed after attempting to extract Quixis!

I was looking up a few reference videos and photos of people fighting each other with swords and scythes. I was a bit worried about the hand placement of the scythe in particular. Just something else I need to practice!

"Fable puts his hands up, Centross standing at the ready to strike again."

I thought it would be a fun character detail for Fable to tidy himself up before fighting Centross. Aside from a way for him to keep up appearances, it was a way to imply a "This just another pest I need to swat, no need to get all worked up" train of thought.

In the transition to Icarus' POV, he looked a bit too wide-eyes in the sketch. I made sure to make him look a little more dazed and foggy.

"[Icarus] regains their senses. Centross and Fable are fighting and moving on the opposite side of the cave, but Icarus' vision is blurring from frame to frame."

I wanted to make sure Centross and Fable were somewhat equally matched but with different fighting styles. I felt like Centross would go for a more aggressive style in order to defeat his opponent as soon as possible. On the other side of the coin, I felt like Fable would be more defensive, as this would allow an opponent to wear themselves out faster and for him to toy with them.

Although they are in silhouette, I wanted to make sure details like where the hand are placed on the swords and scythes were shown in the final to make things more legible to the audience.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for mirrored shots of opposing forces!

I wanted to make Fable's hair more unkempt the more he got frustrated or overwhelmed by Centross. Not as powerful of a guy as he thinks he is!

"The Reaver flings out of his hands, sticking into the wall, disarming him...Fable's shadow approaches Centross."

I repositioned Centross' left hand to make it look more like he had just been holding the Reaver before it got launched out of his hands. I thought the seriousness of the cutscene would benefit from a brief comedic moment of Centross going "Well darn, I've gotten myself in quite a pickle now" sort of facial expression.

Fable was going to be more obscured in shadow with a lot of cross hatching, but I was a bit worried about the legibility of his face with the brush I was using. Our background artist was able to achieve a similar effect, and I think he did very well!

"Centross rips the sword away from Fable’s hands and throws it on the ground. It skids over to Icarus' feet."

I was thinking a lot about the way Centross' shirt would wrinkle around the tip of the sword, especially when Fable digs it into his shoulder.

The sword spinning across the floor toward Icarus was a way to show how far removed Icarus was away from the action. It helped to set him up as a reactive viewer with not much ability to step in.

some of my thoughts on drawing, learning the accordion, and how they apply to each other.

i have been drawing my whole life. the last time i can remember feeling genuinely ashamed of my artistic skills was when i was probably 12. at some point i was able to look at my art and realize it wasn’t anywhere near perfect, and i became okay with that. nowadays, i have no anxiety about posting my art or leaving a piece with flaws, because i like my style and i’m comfortable enough in my skills and the knowledge that there will always be room for improvement to allow myself to simply enjoy what i create.

i have always been fascinated by the accordion. around age 11 i started considering learning to play it. by 13 i saw one at an antique store and seriously considering buying it for a long time, but did not. as the years go on i find that artistic burnout is becoming more of a frequent issue with me, and i often find myself desperately wishing i had a gratifying way of expressing myself other than drawing.

i’m always humming, and doing the mouth trumpet, and clicking and clapping out tunes all day. singing and scatting are some of my favorite pastimes. i can do all this but it’s not the same as playing an instrument. i feel like it can never quite extend past my fingertips; like i’m cranking out all this energy and excitement but it can’t go anywhere. it’s like not being able to get past the sketch when you have a whole painting inside you.

about three months ago, i finally picked up the accordion. i don’t know how to read music. my understanding of the technical side of music is pathetic, although i have a good natural sense for it, and now, a good teacher. i am scared.

i have all the usual beginner issues: my hands don’t know where to go, i’m not used to the weight of the instrument, and it feels alien in a way, just to name a few.

there’s another problem, too. i’m good at drawing.

everywhere i go, i see things i want to paint. i’m taking pictures of the pickled jalapeños and carrots at work because i want to study how they interact with the opaque black plastic container, all little dynamic shapes of green and orange swimming in vinegar. i’m watching a cat stretch and yawn on the concrete and lay down in a sunbeam that looks too heavenly to be real - it gives me an idea for a sketch.

i look at the arms of the man loading hay bales with me, and try to commit to memory how the muscles move under the skin, what foot he puts his weight on, how he wipes his forehead and shifts his weight. it makes me want to draw pages of people doing mundane things, studying how weight and action and stylization works together to create something satisfying and alive. i want to do the beauty of the universe justice.

when i open procreate to draw, i am not thinking of anything. my hands know where to go, i don’t even have to look at the buttons or tools to know what i’m doing, and all these complicated layers interacting with each other and their applied effects and backgrounds etc come like second nature to me now.

the first day i used procreate, i was so overwhelmed, i was afraid to touch anything.

the first day i held an accordion, it was the same.

my problem is that i know how to look at art and examine why techniques work or not, and i don’t quite have those skills when it comes to music. sure, i can slap beautiful harmony onto any song, but heck if i know what notes they are. i couldn’t tell you what key the song is in or what defines a measure.

and i realized that while now i am looking through this frosted glass trying to make out the basic shapes behind it, one day, i will be able to peel back the mystery and truly understand not only how this instrument functions, but how music flows, too. because i see art in everything. i understand the weight of people and objects and how they would interact in a cartoon. the colors of a blooming cactus in my yard become lemony saturated in the early light and pale and dusty in the late evening. i can see the line of action in characters and better understand the composition behind paintings, and why it works.

it’s my hope, that as time spent with my accordion goes on, i will start to see music in everything, too. there’s nothing i want more than to understand it and speak its language as i do with art. i want to someday pick up my accordion and make up a melody as i would sketch out a doodle. this is the kind of stuff i think about all day.

The Mariner, and why was he the "Helpful Spook"?

I have more to talk about with the Haunted Mansion 2023 movie, go figure. This time it's about our wonderful new friend, the Mariner!

Slight spoilers for the 2023 movie below.

So what's the deal with the Mariner in the movie?

In the 2023 movie, he is the ghost attached to Ben, haunting him until he returns to the Gracey Mansion. This becomes helpful as the Mariner travels with Ben, Travis, and Kent to Crump Mansion, and while there reveals some of Crump's plot. In return for this, Ben takes the Mariner to the sea and, released from the mansion, the Mariner happily takes a modern fishing boat and heads out to sea, presumably to emulate Deadliest Catch, which he seems fond of on TV.

So what's the deal with the Mariner in The Mansion Itself?

Well, to put it simply, the Mariner may be considered the final, lasting, singular reference to one of the earliest concepts for the Haunted Mansion.

Yale Gracey and Rolly Crump* seemed to have a rather solid plotline for one of the very first iterations of the Haunted Mansion: a wealthy Sea Captain, Bartholomew Gore, is set to marry his longtime love Priscilla (or in some cases, they already are married) before Priscilla uncovered a chest full of evidence revealing that Captain Gore was not merely a sea captain, but the infamous Pirate known as Black Bart. With his secret revealed and Priscilla horrified, Captain Gore disposed of her; varying methods include locked in a trunk and thrown down a well which was then sealed.

If any of you are familiar with the story of how Crump and Gracey were told they had to turn off their special effects at night as the cleaning crew were too frightened to clean their studio space, only to amp it up to scare out the crew entirely, the Gore and Priscilla story was still on the notes at that time. It's likely that the diorama they rigged up to scare the poor cleaners was that of Gore and Priscilla themselves!

So where's the Mariner in the mansion now?

Unfortunately? He isn't. The Sea Captain's plot was discarded in favor of a less structured approach to the Mansion, one more like we have today - not dedicated to any one ghost, but many. And the Mariner himself didn't actually make the cut. The Disneyland Mansion has no sign of him; the Disney World Mansion is a little different.

The Sea Captain, or the Mariner, appears in a painting in the loading area of the attraction, and in fact it's been suggested that the Mariner's appearance was lifted right from some of the earliest concept sketches of Captain Gore. With the addition of the interactive queue outside the WDW mansion, he's more accredited the name of "Captain Culpeper Clyne" (who's allergic to dirt so he's pickled in brine!) or the man in the crypt that's sprung a leak.

Oh, and Captain Gore's design might also have been the inspiration for the infamous Auctioneer in Pirates of the Caribbean (ride).

Prior to the 2006-2007 refurbishment, the Mariner was one of the paintings with eyes that would follow the Guests as they passed by in their Doombuggies; now, however, his portrait doesn't do anything, it just looms over the Guests as they board**. There were also rumors that his story could be found in the Columbia Harbor House across the street, but I have yet to find those rumors confirmed (and I've looked, believe me.)

And why did you make me read all this, Dani?

Because with all this in mind, at least for me, it's nice to see the Mariner in particular - as opposed to a different more marketable spirit, like one the Hitchhiking Ghosts who would seem more obvious - be the Helpful Spook who follows our protagonist. To me, it seems like a little nod that maybe, just maybe, the people who made this movie really knew their Mansion history!

Or it could be a coincidence.

Whatever the case, I'm just really thrilled to see that a spook arguably attached to one of the very first ideas of the Haunted Mansion, who gets no real appearance in the original HM and arguably less and less in the WDW HM, get a little bit of the spotlight in the 2023 movie.

*No relation to Alastair Crump or Edward/William Gracey; the "Master Gracey" character was named after Yale, and I strongly suspect that Alastair Crump was named so as a reference to Mr. Rolly Crump. That makes the Gracey Mansion and the Crump Mansions both direct references to two of the earliest brains on the inimitable Haunted Mansion!

**A similar portrait was April-December; she was recently restored to the Disneyland Mansion as a changing portrait, but in WDW her eyes would also follow guests. Like all the eye-following portraits, she was dismissed in the refurbishment, but she's a prominent painting in the movie; she is the hidden door to the seance room - in fact, the way to open the door is by using the eye-holes as a handle! Clever little referencing there, I think.
