I've been relistening to the homestuck soundtrack album by album while working lately and man. it's reminding me how much I genuinely loved about homestuck, and how that made the aspects of it that sucked so much more frustrating
#I have such a love/hate relationship with this stupid comic#we're vascillati- [gets shot]#no but for real there is so much that's good#really interesting and entertaining characters#and a LOT of them. there is truly a character for everyone#genuinely funny dialogue#interesting worldbuilding#absolutely INSANE utilization of the artistic medium#like. sometimes I think about the panel expanding to fill the whole page in cascade and I go a little crazy#but then for every strength it has. it shoots itself in the foot.#it has interesting compelling characters but because there are so many of them only a few get actual narrative attention and development#and many others just get completely fucked over by the narrative#like. main characters. jade you deserve so much better baby.#and the worldbuilding is cool in THEORY but the actual execution is so messy and difficult to keep track of#even stuff like the epilogues like. had some interesting ideas about narrative and meta concepts about what it means to be a story#the meta stuff is kinda cool#but once again. the actual execution of those ideas was just miserable and left me with such a sour taste in my mouth#tbh that's all probably what made the fandom so prolific#because it was full of so many interesting ideas and characters#but the ideas were poorly executed and the characters were poorly handled#which gives the fandom a lot of room to play in the space#you can pick up the characters or worldbuilding ideas or plot points that you actually liked#and make them your own#idk. reading that comic as a baby english major did something to me#I want to analyze it like I had to analyze some of the questionable literature I read#anyway. the music is still flawless I have no notes there#does anyone wanna classpect the fma characters. i haven't classpected characters in so long im so rusty but i always found it fun

Some parallels I’ve noticed between Tears of the Kingdom and Skyward Sword so far:
Link fails to save Zelda from falling to the world below
Link must search for her
Zelda has her own mission, something only she can do
Link needs to (re)forge the Master Sword
Numerous sky islands that were hidden behind a cloud barrier
Lots of skydiving
Possible time travel to the past? At least on Zelda’s end? Maybe??
Giant storm/cyclone that needs to be tamed by defeating the boss within it
Ancient robots with their limbs held together by energy
Nintendo seems to be doing what they had originally wanted to do in Skyward Sword but ran out of time for.
They definitely released Skyward Sword HD for a reason. They absolutely want players to know the story of SS, and possibly important locations, before going into TotK.
Nintendo what is going to happen in TotK?? 👀👀

Would like to formally recommend that everyone, regardless of gender, try out men’s underwear, because it’s INSANE how much more comfortable they are!!!!!!!
#i don’t even mean boxers - i mean briefs#i didn’t think they’d be that different from women’s briefs but it’s like night and day#why am i having the realization now at age 22 that they make underwear that isn’t constantly trying to stuff itself up your junk??????????#why have i been suffering my whole life???????????#same thought process about bras#i had no idea how much pain i’d been in for so many years until i stopped wearing them and the pain vanished completely#ik some people with really big chests need them for support but at the very least avoid underwire bras if you can#fucking torture devices#ANYWAYS - cannot WAIT to get top surgery!!!!!!!!!!#no idea when it’s happening but i wore a binder today for the first time in forever and it was HEAVEN#i mean. the binder was intensely uncomfortable which is why i don’t wear it ever#but not having to constantly be focused on managing the appearance of loose breasts was LOVELY#being effortlessly flat-chested! imagine it!#someday i’ll just wake up like that! crazy stuff!!!!!!!!#i’d like to have it done in the next couple years but every time i mention it my mom looks at me with fear in her eyes#despite her being generally supportive about trans stuff#she’s cool with my gender in theory but physical change scares her#so we’re gonna need to get past that first#but Someday!!!!!!!!!!!#and in the meantime i will enjoy not constantly being groped by my own underwear… again - WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!!!!!#the things you can accept as normal istg…

fun fact: one of my favorite games has a fangame made about it where a bunch of its antagonists all go to therapy
thats it. thats the whole premise
#no joke#you play as an intern of some therapy place and you end up leading a group therapy session with the og game's protagonist and like#a dozen of the antagonists who range in level of assholery but have all decided to be civil just for this#ngl its pretty simple you kinda just go one by one w each person and run through their trauma and stuff#but it is p interesting and i did learn a bit abt different mental health conditions/disorders#if you choose to pry you can even get the protagonist to unload all of their trauma and its so interesting#uh. idk if anyone here knows abt the game but uh its a minecraft storymode fangame#its called trust fall and its on itch.io if any mcsm refugees are here and wanna check it out#its pretty cool and it has a lot of interesting perspectives on the antagonists that the game itself doesnt rly go into#and im saying this now before i go into. spoilers? if one could even call them that?#anyways yeah consider that a spoiler warning of sorts#anyways i rly like it bc it goes into the protagonists (jesse)'s mindset abt heroism#its not canon but w fanon jesse theyre usually characterized as very heroic and selfless and empathetic and all the good stuff#but in the fangame they go on abt how 'true heroes dont exist' bc all of them have some sort of fault#uh i tried explaining it more but it didnt really come out too good#but trust me its a really interesting perspective on heroes and it resulted in an extremely inhealthy sense of self for jesse#but they hid it all away bc they didnt wanna weigh their friends down and yk the usual#but yeah thats one of my highlights#theres a lot more to the game too dont get me wrong. like i said all the antagonists get some sort of 'diagnosis' and it even treads a bit#in theory territory but it adds to the game so its cool#theres also a bunch of funny moments too its not all completely heavy#its very character focused so theres not much when it comes to actual gameplay or plot. like its a vn#but as someone who likes diving into character and stuff like that it was so cool to play/read#idk why im talking abt this now fjkssb i just remembered it and wanted to mention it is all#the mcsm fandom is pretty dead from what i know but the game didnt seem to get much attention and thats kinda sad#it deserved a lot more it was pretty well done#jace rambles#mcsm#k.txt#anyways back to ur regularly scheduled frog show content

something i like about nona's family is that they're so like, almost a perfect little nuclear family, and then just. not.
like. pyrrha is "the person who works for her" but also the one who makes breakfast and does the dishes. she's a woman quite literally posessing the body of a cis man and really leaning into the look, honorarily trans in both directions, working construction and shaving in the mornings and braiding nona's hair before school.
and then there's camilla, her...nagging wife? troublemaking older child? roomate who she barely gets along with? the fact that palamedes shares this role is doubly weird. he's a man literally posessing the body of a cis woman, and they're both pyrrha's nagging wife/problem child/roomate. i don't personally believe that anything explicitly or overtly sexual was happening between her and either of them, but i completely understand where people who think that are coming from. and it's fucking weird (affetionate?).
even nona occupies a weird place in this dynamic. like. pyrrha is definitely a parent to her but camilla, who takes a much more active role in her daily life, is...idk. nona has a crush on her and wants to marry her and adopt dogs. camilla's feelings for nona are more parental or older-sisterly, in that she cares for her and wants to protect her, and if her feelings are more complicated than that, it's because of the obvious aspects of the situation which make her extremely sad and apprehensive of the future. her affection for nona seems relatively simple.
and then there's palamedes, who is in theory another parental figure (see: camilla's "i'll talk to your mother later" face, or pyrrha's "you're going to make someone a really irritating wife one day, sextus"), but in nona's view of things he seems like something more along the lines of an older sibling, or perhaps a cool uncle, which is funny because pyrrha arguably treats him more like a spouse than she does camilla.
it's all just so fucking weird and jumbled up on itself. pyrrha will kiss camilla on the head and say "i'll be home for dinner, dear," and then turn around and call both her and nona "daddy's own treasures" (don't get me started). she'll kiss palamedes and camilla both on the mouth and tell them she loves them. she'll tell them she didn't love them well, or even wholesomely, and she won't explain what she means by wholesome.
alecto calls her "mother and father." alecto tells her she should've given into her urges and eaten them.
palamedes and camilla are second cousins and queerplatonic and married and the same person and by the start of the book the lines between them are already dissolving.
nona is so so young and she's so so old and she's not so much younger than camilla and she's older than pyrrha can even comprehend and some days she needs help getting her shirt over her head.
and most importantly they all love each other. it's a weird and confused and unhealthy love. it's a love full of tension and annoyance and fear. it's a love that wants very badly to fit a category and can't. but it's love it's love it's love and even when it's over even when it has nowhere left to go it's not gone it can't be gone. it's over it's done you can't take loved away.

This is what happens when you're raised by TV and trained in literary analysis
Beyond the crushing heartbreak of that finale, one thing in particular has stuck with me when I look at it in the context of S2 as a whole.
He lays out their relationship, "We're a team, a group. A group of the two of us. And we've spent our existence pretending that we aren't."
He then turns his head away and says, "I mean, the last few years, not really."
He pauses here, facing the interior of the bookshop. Really looks it up and down.
Turns back, "And I would like to spend" before choking on his words and looks toward the window. He can't finish saying something like "And I would like to spend eternity with you" because that's too much, too fast, for both of them.
But it's that "last few years" bit that has firmly lodged itself in my very broken brain.
According to Gaiman, it's been "a few years" since the end of Season 1. Armageddon has been averted. Heaven and Hell have reluctantly retreated. Crowley and Aziraphale have been effectively cut loose from their "sides," leaving them to form their own side.
So at the start of Season 2, we get a glimpse of the “fragile existence” they have carved out for themselves. To me, the biggest difference that we see is how they exist together in front of others. Going to the coffee shop, the pub, and the other shops along the street that Aziraphale has lived on for over 200 years. And don’t forget how they act in front of Nina, Maggie, and sweet, dim Muriel.
Tumblr media
At the coffee shop, Aziraphale stammers a bit when Nina asks who Crowley is, but he still seems to have affection in his voice when he says, "We go back a long time."
Tumblr media
Compared to Shakespearian "He's not my friend! We've never met before. We don't know each other!" panic, this is an incredible difference.
Tumblr media
Of course, each time, Crowley is cool and cheeky and does nothing to indicate that they aren't a pair. Though, of course, he does deny it when Nina asks about Aziraphale being his side piece. “He’s not my bit on the side! He’s far too pure of heart to be anyone’s bit on the side.” And refers to him as an “Angel [swallows]I know.”
When they go the pub, Crowley's joy at doing something together in public that they do not normally do is super cute, including his cheeky order for Aziraphale's sherry. Then, when bringing the drinks over to the socially trapped Aziraphale, he greets Mr. Brown with a truly adorable, "Hello" and a signature DT smile. Then upon hearing how “excited” Mr. Fell is to host the meeting, he looks down and says, “Oh? You astonish me.” while Aziraphale sips his sherry and squirms.
Tumblr media
We also watch as Crowley follows Aziraphale as he goes to each shop and talks to the owners about the meeting/secret ball. In theory, Crowley has no reason to tag along, and he certainly doesn’t help sway anyone who doesn’t want to/can’t go. He goofs around at the magic shop. He splays out on the bench, chin on hand, looking for all the world a husband waiting for his wife to pick out a dress at the department store. They are so married it’s ridiculous.
Tumblr media
Finally, their behavior in front of Muriel while inside their sanctuary. Crowley sits on the arm of Aziraphale’s chair, somehow looking supremely comfortable on the old-fashioned furniture. He folds up those gloriously long limbs and presses himself as close as possible.
Tumblr media
He smiles and plays along with Aziraphale’s coaching of Muriel in her disguise. Calls him Angel and asks to speak in private. And at the end, during the awful wait while Aziraphale talks with The Metatron, Crowley cleans up the shop and tells Muriel that he and Aziraphale will need some “us” time after all this. No beating around the bush.
Tumblr media
Without oversight, they can be openly together and happy. But Heaven just can’t let that happen.

HOLY FUDGE BARS THE BOOK JUST LIKE. DROPS A HUGE THING RIGHT HERE WITH THIS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It becomes clear that the player and the main character aren't one and the same"
"You got The Locket"
"You took back the locket"
I've read through most of this book now and it does NOT just make statements like that or try to fill itself with fan theories. The most I've seen it "mess up" was with the story/battle context for Papyrus's really cool regular attack, calling it his special attack, which I have seen other people in the fandom do before anyway.
This author had direct access to Toby himself (there's notes about them asking him questions) and his own notes for the translators and stuff from when Undertale was being localized. there's screenshots of texts and spreadsheets.
I have seen nothing else in this book so far that is at all "stating theories as if they're canon." And iirc this book was officially considered "not part of Undertale merch" or something along those lines so it dodges the non-canonicity thing (plus again this is directly about the localization process behind Undertale from English to Japanese, I'm not sure how Toby's own notes on how Determination works could be considered anything but "canon").
...
I guess we were never really the greatest person, now were we...?
(this is the legends of localization book btw)

Okay but hear me out!
Dead On Main Revolutionary Ghost Utena AU:
Canonically, Jason focuses his rage to summon the All Blade
Ghost Prince Danny would have the Ring of Rage, but not the Crown of Fire yet
I hypothesize to you that the two are connected, and not only that, but that wearing the ring allows one to draw the All Blade out of the other. Like, literally.
Because of this, summoning the All Blade of their own accord is the mark of a ghost powerful enough to be the ghost king's betrothed, and whatever other ghosts were in the running are pushed back in line as the All Blade wielder is now at the front.
It is part of ancient ceremony that predates Pariah as Ghost King and dates all the way back to the first Royal of the infinite realms, King Lazarus.
The connection itself is no more than a pull towards each other, a fascination at most to make an easier base to build a genuine and in this case, human connection.
To become actually engaged Jason would have to willingly appear before the Ghost Prince and allow him to draw the All Blade out of him, something he is not very excited for and might actually have other lasting impact besides the engagement.
Y'see Jason isn't a halfa the way Danny is, he came back twice in a short amount of time between those two instances, and while the second time was Lazarus induced, no one really knows how he woke up in his grave and broke himself out. There are theories but Clockwork was watching and even he doesn't seem to know for sure, so it's really anyone's guess.
So what the engagement ceremony could do, potentially, is either solidify his halfa status by sheer amount of ectoplasm transfered by the act, or alternatively it could just kill him on the spot and then he'd probably become a full ghost.
Now, neither of these sound great to Jason, but he also doesn't like that a bunch of ghosts have been trying to fight him for their Prince's hand in marriage, something they can only do while the Prince is still not engaged to anyone.
Meanwhile, Danny doesn't appreciate that as soon as he came of age all these marriage proposals started being thrown at him, he's known some of these ghosts since he was a teenager so that's really weird for one, and he gets that most of them are just trying to secure their happiness and not to mention their future safety as the mortal world seems to be moving on with the anti ecto act, which had lead many a specter to retreat back to the realms, causing a lot of unrest as the realms become more crowded and politically tense between factions who have not needed to interact for a while now.
It would seem the Amity portal and even Danny fighting the ghosts and sending them back through it was the break many of the realms' denizens desperately needed, but now with that option no longer being safe, as even their king can't protect them from the GIW when they're gaining so much support from governments across the world, tensions are running high in the realms and it seems that it's every ghost for themselves.
Danny doesn't really resent any of the ghosts for doing what they feel they must to make sure they aren't destroyed in what is shaping out to be a realms wide war at this point, even as he works overtime with his council to prevent that from happening, and he understands they obviously don't expect any actual marital kind of relationship from him, which is at least a little reassuring even if the idea of being married to any of them is still very weird, but he can't help but think there could be a better solution here that he's missing.
And then he feels it, a pull telling him he's overlooked something, someone important.
It's like a fire engulfing his ice core but not burning it somehow, just as it does not cool the fire around it.
Two opposite forces meant to cancel each other out, somehow instead keeping perfect equilibrium with one another.
He talks to Frostbite and Clockwork and finds out what that pull is and takes their advice to follow it.
Jason doesn't realize he just altered the source of all his recent problems to his location as he draws the All Blade to fend off yet another "challenger to the Prince's hand" whatever the hell that means, as finally one of them was dumb enough to try to use actual magic against him.
However, he soon feels the answering pull back from Danny as the latter decides to use the power in his ring to open the portal, feeling that this candidate should at least know he's coming to talk to him.
It's almost the opposite, he feels the fire of the pit madness flaring a bit, but instead of immediately trying to spread, to threaten to consume him unless he tempers it himself, it is still burning just as strong and wild, but kept in one place by an icy chill, an aura of cold, clear fury and calm in equal measure, it doesn't thaw from the fire anymore than his fire dies from the lack of heat around it.
They sustain each other, impossibly.
So Jason and Danny finally meet and give each other the rundown of their side of things and agree that maybe the best bet to not only stop ghosts from attacking Jason and proposing to Danny, but perhaps the key to overthrowing the GIW so the realms' denizens don't have to afterlive in fear and portals can be reinstated to allow travel through the realms and back, not to mention keeping the GIW from going after Jason himself who by their definition is certainly considered an ecto entity, is in fact to go through with the Ring and Blade ceremony.
Jason, at this point, is more of Earth than Danny, who has unfortunately had to step back from his normal mortal life when he turned 18 to take care of realms business, despite still only being Prince.
He was meant to have more time but with the GIW advancing like they had been it was in the realms' best interest as well as his own that he decree the realms going no contact with humans for the foreseeable future.
It's been nearly 3 years since then and they are still getting ghosts back from parts of the world who have been avoiding humans as much as they can.
As soon as he turned 21 all this ghost marriage nonsense has has been making his job of protecting the ghosts in all the realms a lot more difficult, so when ghosts realized he didn't want to be challenged every day for his hand, they went to the next best thing, the top candidate.
Now, Phantom was saying that he's gonna marry the guy they've all been trying to defeat (and failing, to his credit, so at least he was worthy of being top pick)
A lot of them were upset or disappointed, but he explained how this arrangement could potentially help out everyone in the long run and most got on board when they heard the new plan.
Now the only problem is that getting engaged, as mentioned previously, is a ceremony that could prove dangerous to Jason and "not to be insensitive about it, but if you die and become a ghost that sorta defeats one of the main purposes of us even doing this." Danny points out.
"So what's our plan, Your Majesty?" "It's Royal Highness, I'm not king yet, thank the ancients for that." "Yeah yeah, so what are we doing, Your Royal Whinyness?" "Rude. Anyway, there's a chance you might become a full halfa during the process, that means getting a second form and a fully developed core and powers besides the All Blade, which would be better than you dying. So the best way to ensure that outcome, as much as any outcome can be guaranteed anyway, is to start the process of making you a halfa before the ceremony."
"Okay? How do we do that?" "Well, we gotta get some ecto in you - " "aren't you made of that? This better not be a pickup line" "no, not like that! I told you, this marriage doesn't have to be anything more than a contract, I'm about as thrilled about having to get married to save my people as you are about doing this to stop ghost from kicking your ass on a weekly basis." "Excuse me? I won all those fights!" "Yeah, after getting tossed into brick walls 5 times per ghost" "not every ghost tossed me into walls. Box Bitch did throw crates at me tho, that hurt." "Holyshit, Boxy is not messing around anymore huh? Well, makes sense, he's a father now. He doesn't wanna raise his little girl in these conditions. Still glad he lost, but I'm surprised Lunch Lady even agreed to him trying."
So they start Jason on his ecto diet and in the meantime the batfam is brought up to date about everything that's happening and they get to work, Batman gathers the JL to push back on the GIW's fuckery and all of Jason's siblings have an engagement party and a bachelor bash to plan. The girls decide to plan a Bachelorette party for Danny because he deserves to have a break as well.
Jason hates his stupid family, but Danny seems happy to be part of one again after so long, so he sucks it up and plays along.
It's possible that maybe while preparing and planning and helping each other and working together, Jason has gotten to know and developed a fondness for Danny.
Okay so maybe he's a sappy fuck who fell head over heels in love with him in the span of like a month, but this is still just a contract to Danny, and Jason isn't going to push for or expect anything more. Danny doesn't need that kind of stress in his life rn.
Danny has been freaking out since he met his soon to be husband because holyshit that's Red Hood, that is THE Red Hood! No wonder he passed the trial of the All Blade, and the way that fire burned around Danny's core, a fire he now recognized as the warmth answering from Jason's own, made him realize that this is way more than just a contract to him. Still, he'd been part of the realms for a lot longer than Jason ans he was their future king. Jason as part of this contract would be his equal but until the marriage was sealed, he was still technically Jason’s superior. And it didn't feel right to take adventage of that and suddenly change the terms of this deal, to make Jason in any way feel pressured by Danny's own feelings. No, this was just a contract, like Jason wanted it to be. He would keep that promise to him.
Jazz and Babs get together to help their idiot baby brothers figure out their unrequited love is actually very much mutual pining and they're just being stupid.
Anyway the marriage ceremony is a different ritual from the engagement ceremony, the All Blade wielder summons it and presents it to the wearer of the ring, who sheaths it back into the summoner's core, symbolizing that they both have power over the Blade but it belongs to its wielder, and even the king himself may not keep it without permission. The Blade as a manifestation of Jason's will.
(And as a bonus, we know Jason is a literary nerd so he recognizes and appreciates the romance novel tropes happening to him, especially in the high king's court, but he is not a weeb. So I don't think he'd recognize the Utena references happening to him. But you know who I think would? You know who is a weeb who loves swords and is soooo jealous of Todd and his husband right now? It's Damian. Damian's fucking seething that he doesn't get a magic sword. He's so pissed and it's very funny.)

Heaven's Not Homophobic in Good Omens, and Why That's Important
I need to preface this with, I am not trying to start a fight or argument and won't tolerate any homophobic or bad faith arguments in response to this. Cool? Cool.
This is in large part inspired by this ask from Neil's blog, which sparked some discourse that I don't want to get involved in but that brought up some analytic questions for me.
Tumblr media
He goes on to reblog a question asking about Uriel's taunt specifically, clarifying that "boyfriend in the dark glasses" can just as easily be read/translated from angelic as girlfriend or bosom buddy. The idea is that an angel and a demon "fraternizing" is seriously looked down upon, not that heaven is homophobic. And that's super important.
We see homophobia in both the book and show, of course. Aziraphale is very queer-coded, intentionally and explicitly so, and we see the reaction of other humans to that several times. Sergeant Shadwell, for example, and the kid in the book that calls him the f-slur when he's doing magic at Warlock's birthday party. These are, however, individual human reactions to his coding as a gay man.
I am, personally, not a fan of heaven redemption theories for the show; no hate for people who want that it's just not something I'm interested in. I don't believe that heaven is good with bad leadership, or that God Herself remains as a paragon of virtue. To me, that's not in line with the themes and messages of the show. It's important, however, that heaven doesn't reflect human vices. Heaven can be nasty and selfish and apathetic in its own right without ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or racism. This matters for two reasons.
Firstly, we don't need the -isms and -phobias to be evil or at least ethically impure. In a world where we spend so much time fighting against prejudice and bigotry, our impulse is to see that reflected in characters whose motivations we distrust or who we're intended to dislike. While it's true that that's often the big bad evil in our daily lives, it can really cheapen the malice in fictional evil from a storytelling standpoint. A villain motivated by racism or as an allegory for homophobia can be incredibly compelling, but not every bad guy can be the physical representation of an -ism. Art reflects the reality in which it's crafted, but the complexity of human nature and the evil it's capable of can't be simplified to a dni list.
Secondly, and I think more importantly, is that for Good Omens specifically, this places the responsibility for homophobia on humanity. If you're in this fandom, there's like a 98% chance you've been hurt by religion in some way. For a lot of us, that includes religious homophobia and hate, so it makes sense to want to project that onto the 'religious' structure of Good Omens. It's a story that is, in many ways, about religious trauma and abuse. However, if heaven itself held homophobic values, it would canonize in-universe the idea that heaven and religion itself are responsible for all humanity's -isms and -phobias and absolve humans of any responsibility. Much like Crowley emphasizes repeatedly that the wicked cruelty he takes responsibility for is entirely human-made, we have to accept that heaven can't take the blame for this. To make heaven, the religious authority, homophobic would simply justify religious bigotry from humans. By taking the blame for religious extremism and hatred away from heaven and the religious structure, Good Omens makes it clear that the nastiness of humanity is uniquely and specially human and forces the individual to take responsibility rather than the system. Hell isn't responsible for the Spanish Inquisition, which by the way was religiously motivated if you didn't know, and heaven isn't responsible for Ronald Reagan.
This idea is perhaps more strongly and explicitly expressed in the Good Omens novel, in the scene where Aziraphale briefly possesses a televangelist on live TV. It's comedic, yes, but also serves to demonstrate that human concepts of the apocalypse and religious fervor are deeply incorrect (in gomens universe canon) and condemn exploitation of faith practices. Pratchett and Gaiman weave a great deal of complexity into the way religion and religious values are portrayed in the book, especially in the emphasis on heaven and hell being essentially the same. They're interested in the concept of what it means to be uniquely and unabashedly human, the good and the bad, and part of that is forcing each individual person to bear the brunt of responsibility for their own actions rather than passing it off onto a greater religious authority.
Additionally, from a fan perspective, there's something refreshing about a very queer story where homophobia isn't the primary (or even a side) conflict. The primary narrative of Good Omens isn't that these two man-shaped-beings are gay, it's that they're an angel and a demon. The tension in their romantic arc arises entirely from the larger conflict of heaven and hell, and things like gender and sexuality don't really matter at all. Yes, homophobia and transphobia are very real, present issues in our everyday lives, but they don't have to be central to every story we tell. There's something really soothing about Crowley and Aziraphale being so queer-coded and so clearly enamored with each other without constantly being bombarded with homophobia and hate. It's incredible to see a disabled angel whose use of a mobility aid makes no difference in their role and to see angels and demons using they/them pronouns without being questioned or misgendered. It's all accepted and normalized, and that's the kind of representation that we as queer people deserve.

Requests are open~ I’m so excited, I love your writing!! 🥹
Can I request a Laios x Fem (maybe a bard) reader? But.. hear me out… she uses an ocarina to put people/monsters under a trance, like a beast-master type thing! And maybe reader was living in the Dungeon with Senshi as like an apprentice? Even though she’s a Tall-Man, and not related to the Dwarven chef, reader just calls Senshi her Uncle.. She joins them same as Senshi, with reader and Laios unconsciously gravitating towards each other and both of them being oblivious smitten cuties~
Also probably hilarious if reader acts shocked when she first joins the party and finds out that none of them had ever eaten monsters before.. and starts immediately listing off her favorite meals~ (Laios is instantly a little jealous that she was practically raised on Monster food)
senshi's little apprentice

꒰ mimi's note ꒱ ⸻ ocarina's are seriously so cool and anyone who can play them can have my money 🤲 thank you for the request!
Tumblr media
When you first joined the party with Senshi, nobody really questioned your relationship with the dwarf, though you calling him ‘Uncle Senshi’ definitely raised a few eyebrows.
They all chose not to comment on it
Your immediate shock on them not usually eating monsters is what draws Laios’ in almost instantly.
He’s definitely jealous that you were raised on monster food, he wishes he was able to get a taste! He definitely wants to hear everything you’ve ever eaten whilst in the dungeon
Basilisk stir fry? Mimic tacos? Laios’ mouth is watering nonstop.
Any recommendations are immediately met with Laios whining that you guys need to go kill a (insert monster) asap!
You found it strange at first that they weren’t accustomed to eating monsters- but Senshi reminds you it's not the norm above ground. After that, you’re very curious about why Laios wants to eat monsters so badly.
Either way, it’s because of this that you and Laios bond!
Naturally gravitating towards each other, recounting monsters that you’ve encountered and meals you’ve ate/want to try. Laios is just excited to share his passion with others.
When you tell him about how you use your ocarina to lure in monsters, he’s super interested- wonders how your music affects different monsters, do the frequencies need to be changed depending on the monster, etc.
Laios and you become a power duo with your trance-inducing abilities and his swordsmanship.
As you and Laios grow closer, Senshi starts to get a little overprotective of you (he raised you, after all!)
During meal times, whenever you and Laios help out, he’ll have Laios be stationed away from you.
That doesn’t always workout though, because you usually end up with Laios to help teach him how to fold the dough/chop the meat/skin the monster/etc properly.
Yeah, Senshi does not like this…
It’s not that Senshi doesn’t like Laios, but he’s a weird lad, y’know?
Marcille is very intrigued by your ocarina- she can’t help but wonder if a spell was casted on it, or if it’s a magical tool itself?
Either way, the ability to put monsters (and sometimes even humans) into a trance is alarming, but she trusts you.
Will ask to study your musical instrument, if that’s alright with you.
If the connection between music/frequencies and the mind is of particular interest to you, then you and Marcille definitely have long talks about it.
She’ll bring up anything she’s ever found in her research, helping to fuel your own theories and ideas.
If she’s having nightmares, might bashfully ask if you could play her a tune.
Chilchuck can’t find it in himself to get behind eating monsters, even if it has your seal of approval.
You were raised on it, after all, so of course you think it’s normal. He’ll pity you only a little bit.
Senshi did his best to be a good parental figure, but sometimes Chilchuck will step in with his own fatherly advice.
“Aye, they were holdin’ these knives at a wee age!” Senshi reminisces on when he taught you how to properly chop vegetables, meanwhile Chilchuck is horrified and also surprised you made it this long.
If you have a problem with your hair constantly getting in the way, Chilchuck will braid your hair to help.
Both Chilchuck and Senshi team up to keep Laios away from you- not that it ever really works though.
Laios’ love for monsters and you is too strong.
Later when Izutsumi joins in, she’s not a fan of you- at all.
She’s a beastkin, as you know, so your whole ocarina-beast-control thing freaks her out and she makes a point to always yell at you to never do it to her or else she’ll do something you won’t like!
Eventually, once she’s sure you’d never bring harm to her, she’ll warm up to you.
Similarly to Chil thinks you’re weird for enjoying monster food so much.
As time goes on, and you grow closer to everyone, you eventually open up on how you ended up in the dungeon and how Senshi took you in. Everyone (Marcille specifically) is very sympathetic towards you.
Actually Laios calls you lucky but lets ignore that for now
Laios will offer to show you around, if you ever want to leave the dungeon
Is he asking you out on a date? Absolutely. Does he realize he's asking you out on a date? Not one bit.
Will sadly inform you they don’t serve monster food in any restaurants outside the dungeon- but he finds your eagerness to try new foods kinda cute.
Overall, everyone in the party loves you (one in particular a little too much for Senshi’s liking)

Until I read the comments on that one post I had no idea the Bechdel Test was a joke and wasn't supposed to be a serious measuring stick by which you gauged if something was feminist or not. Everywhere I'd ever heard it brought up, it was brought up as a very serious thing, and it was a failure of media if it didn't pass it. I remember the debate about Mako Mori from Pacific Rim and if she was a character you were "allowed" to like as a progressive person despite the fact that Pacific Rim doesn't pass the Bechdel Test, the discourse, the discussion of if the director was sexist for not writing in another woman for her to chat with about non-men related stuff, the camp of people trying to insist that having a fully realized character arc and being as developed as any of the male leads = good writing even if she doesn't talk to another girl...
And I've also had the remark about my writing not passing the test, just not to my face. I searched my fanfic's name once, curious to see if anyone was discussing it outside of tumblr and AO3, and found a Tiktok complaining about it not passing the Bechdel Test. The top comment was "motherfucker YOU don't pass the test but we still watch your ass". I cackled and moved on, but neither the commenter, poster, nor I had any awareness this wasn't Feminist Media Critique 101 theory and was, in fact, a goof.
Right now there's a segment of fandom debating if Blue Eye Samurai is feminist since when Mizu and Akemi talk, they do bring up men, since, y'know. Women aren't considered people with rights in their era in Japan and thus it's something they mention instead of only talking about being cool girlboss badasses who never bring up gender. If something doesn't pass the Bechdel Test, a smug segment of the internet high-fives itself and congratulates one another on being More Feminist Than Thou.
They then get really angry if you disagree, even though by this metric, Sleeping Beauty (the original animated one, where Aurora has only 16 lines of dialogue) is more feminist than Blue Eye Samurai.

*DYING*
Okay, so, nonnie....
Dykes to Watch Out For (1983-2008) was a long-running comic and major piece of lesbian media. I grew up buying compiled volumes at the bookstore. To be honest, that kind of 90s-ish lesbian culture isn't really my scene despite me being bi, but it was very nice to have this slice of life-y somewhat realistic, occasionally somewhat parody, look at the queer communities around me. It's up there with Tales of the City for me in terms of being a window into a particular culture and time and place.
If anybody is interested in queer history, in addition to looking up factual info, I think a read of the complete Dykes would give a really good overview of how people were thinking about things and what issues came up a lot. You'll see things like Barnes & Noble increasingly putting feminist bookstores out of business in the 90s, attitudes towards porn in lesbian circles—all kinds of cultural issues of the day.
I drifted away as I got later in my teens and found more genre fiction I cared about, but at one point, this comic was a very welcome antidote to the glurgey coming out stories that made up a lot of the more realistic media.
Anyway, here's the comic itself, reproduced in its entirety because I think it's important to actually understand the context.
This is from 1985, so the era of Rambo, Conan, and Death Wish, each of which you can see being made fun of here. It's based on Bechdel's friend Liz Wallace's actual rule for seeing movies.
Tumblr media
That's it. That's the origin of this whole stupid test.
"LOL, fuck 80s action movies". That's it. That's the joke.
The fact that blockbusters still routinely fail to pass in the 2020s is shameful, but that was never the point of the strip.

An interesting quirky use of singular they that may well be a new language feature (don’t quote me on this. This is a conjecture based on anecdotal observation) happens when someone is talking about a third person whom the person they’re talking to doesn’t know. Specifically a third person who does not use they pronouns. The speaker will refer to the third person as “they”when first mentioning them and then as the speaker keeps elaborating, will use the third person’s pronouns. This usually happens with “he” and “she” pronouns but could happen with “it” or neopronouns in theory.
Like:
Person 1: nice new grips on your bike. I have a coworker who’s really into bikes. They’d love them. Can I take a pic to show them?
Person 2: sure!
Person: she’s new at work and I’m trying to make friends with her because she’s into fermenting and I’m trying to get a scoby off her
End scene.
Though the details of the example may not be relatable (I don’t work with this cool hypothetical woman either) I wanted to make it specific in order to keep it from getting boring.
The key features of this kind of use for me are:
The third person is assumed not to be known to the listener.
The third person does not use they pronouns in addition to another set of pronouns. This is not a case of switching between a multiple pronoun user’s pronouns.
The third person’s relationship to the speaker is usually a gender neutral word like “coworker” or “classmate” or “friend” or “labmate” or “someone I know” or “relative” and so on. (I haven’t encountered this use of they with gendered kinship terms like “mom” or “uncle” or “sister”)
The speaker is not misgendering/degendering the third person and then noticing and correcting themselves. The speaker is un-self-consciously going from generic to specific.
Have you encountered this “introductory they” or “generic-to-specific they-to-other-prounoun switch” for an unknown-to-the-listener person who doesn’t use they/them?
And does it stand out to you as unusual or does it sound natural?
I’m using “natural” as a value-neutral term to save space. What I mean by it is “unremarkable” and “not calling attention to itself.”
Something standing out to you as unusual/novel is also value-neutral. It does not mean you disapprove! It only means it makes you have to pause to understand.
You may talk about different/similar pronoun phenomenon in the tags or reblogs, but don’t use a different/similar pronoun phenomenon to answer the question above.

Lovefool — Connor x gn! reader
Tumblr media
summery: Connor tries to impress you, and it works <3
tw: none
a/n: Guys, the fav artist I mention might be a reference to Will Wood, no I won't shut up about him.
wc: 0.6k
Master List
Tumblr media
It was a passing comment, something you didn’t think twice about. You were rambling to your friend, Connor, about some of your favorite songs and artists. Even before his deviancy he’d come to you with questions. At the time, you seemed to be one of the only people to treat him with some basic human decency, and a friendship was born. And you found someone you could finally ramble to, as when you’d bring something up, Connor would question it and you’d fall into the ramblings of topics you love.
This time, it was about one of your favorite artists, and the reason why you believed you loved their music so much was because he played piano. And then that fell into you realizing that you found people who play piano were hot. You didn’t even notice the intense stare Connor held, or how his led spun yellow at the information. Just continued to talk about how much you loved that one musician.
You really didn’t think Connor would take that comment to heart. That he’d download programs that would teach him how to play the piano. Then proceed to learn a few pieces of music, some classical, some from your favorite artist.
So when you walked through the mall with Connor by your side, you didn’t really question anything. Looking through windows to see if you were interested in anything. Occasionally asking Connor if he found anything, secretly wanting to buy him something. You stopped, watching as a piano played itself. People and androids alike walked past, not taking a second glance, but you couldn’t help but appreciate the waltz that was currently playing. You followed Connor curiously as he took a seat at the bench before the piano.
“You know how to play?” You asked, watching intently as his fingers rested over the piano keys. His synthetic skin pulled away from his hands as he interfaced with the piano, and the waltz stopped playing.
“Yes,” Connor nodded, glancing at me. “This will be my first time playing though.”
Before you could ask anymore questions, the familiar sound of your favorite song started playing. You felt your heart rate increase. You didn’t want to assume…but it was pretty hard not to. Why did he learn to play piano? And he said this was his first time playing, and it just happened to be a song from the artist you were gushing about not too long ago…
Oh…
You felt your heart stutter. Was this something to do with your offhand comment? That you found people who play piano to be attractive? You watched as his fingers brushed over the ivory keys, skillfully playing a tune you knew by heart.
So far your theory wasn’t wrong. But this perhaps may be a bit of a cheat since you found Connor attractive from the beginning. You watched as his eyes stared at the nonexistent music sheets, perhaps he can view it with his HUD. You felt entranced as he continued to…serenade you? Was that the right term? Well, if that’s what he was out to do it was working real well.
When he finished the last note, I clapped as loud as I could, cheering for him. I didn’t even realize the small crowd that gathered until they applauded with me.
“That was amazing Connor!” I exclaimed, wrapping my arms around his back as he tried to look at me. “Why the sudden interest?” You just wanted to make sure your conclusion was correct.
“I, uh, you mentioned you found people who played the piano to be intriguing,” Connor slightly stuttered.
You couldn’t stop the smirk that fit over your lips as you sat next to Connor, his eyes boring through your own, “I think I said a bit more than that.” You admired the blue tint that worked over Connor’s cheeks, the cool color contrasting well against his pale freckled skin.
“Are you…” Connor trailed, unable to finish his question. A part of you wanted to play innocent, make him finish the question. But you decided to be merciful today.
“Yes,” You replied, leaning over and placing a kiss on his cheek.
