Luther Hargreeves
Tumblr media
This takes place in season 1
The argument was pretty simple
You just wanted him to shut up for like 5 seconds about the moon and stop defending Reginald and digging into his death
You two were currently standing in the “meeting room” in the Umbrella Academy along with others discussing how Reginald died. Sure you weren’t part of this family, but you were invited anyway. Why you had no idea, maybe ‘cause you were a family friend?
“Jesus Christ Luther, stop digging into it so much. It was a heartattack, calm down” you rolled your eyes sighing as you agreed along with others that Reginald died of a heart attack.
“Oh so you’re on their side now? Even my best friend, great” he chuckled at the irony rolling his eyes. “Well I wonder why” Diego sneered. Soon the whole room started arguing about it, you’ve had enough of this. They were adults so they should act like it
Standing up from your seat you shook your head whistling which only caught Viktor’s and Allison’s attention… not what you wanted.
“Shut the fuck up!” You finally yelled and they all grew silent except for Diego who insulted his brother and you before storming off. “We’re all adults yet you all act like kids. Get your shit together” you sighed frustrated.
With that Luther got up and took few steps towards you “You don’t have a say in this. Dad was murdured, and last time I checked I was on the Moon to-“ Luther started but got cut off by you
“Luther, for the love of god, as much as I love you, shut up about the Moon and stop defending him” You rolled your eyes making Viktor raise his eyebrows suprised
Luther stood there kidna offended at first before realizing what you said “Wait what?” You just cussed under your breath. This is gonna be a long day.
At first Allison was kidna jealous for sure, but slowly joined Klaus with sometimes teasing you. You had a lot of explaining to do.
Diego Hargreeves
Tumblr media
This takes place in season 2
Along woth others you had enough of Diego thinking about J. F. Keneddy 24/7
It was another night at Elliot’s and here you were, sitting in a corner across the room from Diego with Five between the two of you. You all were watching a tape Hazel gave Five before dying, a man on a grassfield was standing there when the president is getting shot.
To be honest you rightfully along with Lila who was sitting near you had no idea who this is unlike the two boys who seemed shocked at it
“Uh guys? Wanna also tell us who that is?” You asked awkwardly with Lila nodding slightly only to hear a whisper “dad” escape their mouths at the same time.
“Do you see this? That’s dad and he is the one who killed the president” Diego turned to you with a serious expression “Oh here we go” You rolled your eyes crossing your arms. “How can you know for sure that it was him? It doesn’t look like he’s holding a gun” you just shrugged leaving Diego frowning
“Do you even listen to me? That’s a proof that he is the killer!” Diego stood up pacing around the room
“And you know that how? He-“ you get cut off as he looks at you sharply, if you didn’t know him you’d think he’s crazy
“Take it easy, Diego” Five said calmly trying to ease the situation, but of course it didn’t help. “He is the killer! Don’t you hear me?! The evidence is right here!” Diego yells at you pointing at the tape
“Oh for fuck’s sake, you don’t wanna tell me that I fell for a madman” You scoffed crossing your arms taking a step towards him and he took a small step back as he processed what you said
“Well that’s an awkward silence” Lila said chuckling slightly, but none of you spoke until Five told you both that there’s no time for these things right now and you both followed him out to wherever you guys are going
“We’re not done with this conversation” Diego said, but not so agressively, more calmly yet of course not softly as it ain’t in his nature.
Allison Hargreeves
Tumblr media
This takes place in season 3
You were starting to get really annoyed with her, but when you caught her trying to rumor herself in the mirror to be happy you couldn’t be angry or upset with her at that moment
You and other Hargreeves siblings were just miding your own businesses, but you did notice that Allison was missing. At first you didn’t make a big deal out of it, she was being really annoying, but still that didn’t mean that you didn’t care about her. You were on this crazy Hargreeves rollecoster since the very beggining and they were all very dear to you.
So here you were looking through the whole hotel for her, you were starting to give up before you heard a glass break in the bathroom.
Slowly you stepped in and that’s when you witnessed it. “I heard a rumor that you were happy” Allison said trying to rumor herself through the mirror you weren’t sure if it’d work, but you sure as hell were concerned by now, you were aware that she had a hard time, but this was really bad.
“Allison?” You stepped in properly after seeing that it doesn’t work
Allison slightly jumped at the sudden voice, she didn’t need to turn around to know that it’s you “What do you want?”
Her words were sharp, but you tried to ignore the feeling and took few steps closer, your eyes inspecting her bloody hand from the distance. “Are you okay…?” You asked slowly unsure if she wants to open up
She just scoffed rolling her eyes as she faced you “Since when do you care?” You didn’t like this defensive side of her, but you knew that loving her means loving her even at her worst
“I always cared, Al-“ getting cut off Allison stood up properly frowning “No you didn’t. You don’t care that Claire’s dead, you don’t care that both my husbands are dead! You don’t care at all!”
She shouted obviously getting irritated by your words even though they were honest. “Allison that’s not true!” You tried to argue back “I care about you and mainly your wellbeing! You need help-“ “I don’t need help! Now get out!” She cut you off once again taking few steps towards you, but you didn’t really take any steps back and stood your ground
“Yes you do! You’re even rumoring yourself to be happy! You’re not alright at all!” You took a deep breath taking few steps towards her as well “Just let me help you!” You looked up at her, but she wasn’t calming down any time soon and you knew that. “And why would you want that?! To impress others with your comforting skills?! Make me feel even worse?!”
She shouted, she knew damn well that she doesn’t mean it and knew that she’s being a bitch right now, but she couldn’t stop. She was hiding her pain and anger deep down inside of her for too long and even though she didn’t want to, she just had to let it out on you. Not ‘cause she wanted to, but ‘cause you were closest and she knew you’d forgive her overtime, plus you understood her and she just had to let everything out despite knowing it’s not heathly for neither of you.
“No! Of course not! Allison I love you and don’t want you to suffer! Please…”
You were more calm at the end, but got confused when she shut up and just stared at you in shock before it hit you that you just confessed
“What?” She asked blinking in confusion, but also a neutral voice “Allison… I love you” you repeated making sure she knows you don’t mean just as friends
“Please don’t… I’ll just lose you too. Stop” she mumbled shaking her head, she couldn’t take another loss
“You won’t lose me” you stood up on your tip-toes and kissed her just shortly and slightly of course, you didn’t wanna scare her. “Now let me help you with your hand” you took her bloody hand and started tending it knowing that Allison isn’t ready for a relationship just yet so you didn’t expect her to say it back right now, but you knew that she did love you.
Klaus Hargreeves
Tumblr media
This takes place in season 1
You catch Klaus stealing in the Academy from his father on the funeral day
“Klaus? Wha- what are you doing?” You laughed seeing him under his father’s table where Reginald kept all his work
“Oh Y/N! How nice it is to see youuuuu” He sounded high and he probably was, but then again he had every reason to get high, but that doesn’t mean you approved of it
Klaus quickly reached for a hug which you with a sigh accepted “Klaus you’re high again” you crossed your arms rolling your eyes. “We talked about this”
“But those bitches are everywhere and it’s just so much better” he smiled amd you had to chuckle at his silliness “Give me the drugs” you held out your hand raising eyebrows “Oh you want it too????”
He asked and gave it to you and you just threw it out of the window “What’re you doing?!” He exclaimed with wide eyes “Helping you. Now go wash your face.”
You said clearly pissed off by his behaivor “Y/n! I need those!!!” He whined making you roll your eyes “No, you don’t. You need therapy, along with this whole family of yours” you stated clearly
“Y/N, Y/N, Y/N…” He whined “You don’t understand what I’m going through when I’m clean!” He suddenly yelled at you making you raise your eyebrows
“No Klaus, you don’t understand what I’m going through when I see the man I love somewhere begging for drugs instead of trying to get a real help!”
You argued back, but he stopped “What?”
Five Hargreeves
Tumblr media
This takes place in season 3
You both didn’t pick the same side when Reginald asked you all who’s for saving the world and who’s against it - you voted for saving the world while he didn’t
“Are you serious?” You looked at Five frowning confused as he stood on the other side. “Five, after all this time of trying to save the world you’re just gonna give up on the only chance we have ‘cause your older you told you so?”
You scoffed shaking your head and he frowned stepping closer to you “Y/N I am doing the right thing. Right, we’ve been trying to save the world this whole time and did we manage to change something? Nein! It’s over and over the same” Five frowned stepping closer to you
Unaware of the small distance between you two you stepped closer too and looked down at him “I’m not just gonna sit here and wait for the world to end with a boy I fell for and see him die. Five just come on and try this! One more time”
You sighed and tried to plea him, but to no vail as he didn’t budge “”Boy I love”? Please don’t bring that cocky shit-” “Maybe we should all calm down, alright?” Viktor tried to diescelate the situation, but failed as you and Five ignored him and kept arguing.
“You think you’re always right, hm? You are a child, you-” However you cut him off with a sneer “A child? That’s rich coming from you” Five took a deep breath and looked up at you his height making it impossible for him to look you straight in the eyes without looking up. “Y/N I love you, but you’re starting to seriously piss me off-“ He shut up as you all realized that another wave of Kugablitz is coming and had to run. Sure you two were gonna have to sort things out
Ben Hargreeves
Tumblr media
This takes place in season 2
He got angry ‘cause you keep diapproving of him possesing Klaus’ body
(Btw Y/N can see Ben here)
“Am I talking to Ben or Klaus?” You asked annoyed not seeing Ben anywhere so you just assumed that he posessed Klaus’ body which was sitting on the floor
“Hey Y/N! It’s Ben! God I’m so glad you came I couldn’t find you at the courtyard” he got up and hugged you tightly, but you could still feel that it’s Klaus’ body which wasn’t ideal at all. You didn’t like it and you were over this conversation many times
“Ben… you do realize that I can see you just like Klaus can, right?” You sighed shaking your head in disapproval “But it’s not the same! In a body-“ he starts but you just cut him off
“In any body I can’t see you, but the person whose body it is, Ben” you sighed shaking your head “But Y/N, you don’t understand… being ghost.. it’s as if I’m nothing” He took few steps closer to you, but you just backed up
“Y/N, please just listen… you don’t know what it’s like!” Suddenly he snaps. That’s very out of character of him. “God, Ben. You don’t get it do you?! I don’t love the body you are in, I love you when you’re yourself, Ben!”
You shook your head frowning and andead silence falls in the room and you soon hear him parting from Klaus’ body
“Aw man, I feel like I’ll throw up” Klaus moans and backs up. You ignore him whimpering and just focus on Ben who’s too stunned to speak.
It’s gonna be a long day…
Viktor Hargreeves
Tumblr media
This takes place in season 2
Y/N is helping Five look for others so they’d get them all to the suitcase in time, but Viktor insists to go back for Sissy and Harlan
You kept driving around couple of blocks looking for your best friend - Viktor - literally everywhere
Driving on a road leading away from Sissy’s farm you were slowly losing all hope, but for Viktor’s sake and your mental stability’s sake you kept going, you had to find him.
Driving away you saw another car passing by you and Viktor in it. Immediately you stopped in a way that your car - well a stolen car that you claim to be yours - died. Viktor on the other hand stopped slowly
“Viktor? Thank God, where were you?!” You were quick to hug him before he even had a chance to get out of the car properly
“Jesus! Y/N what are you doing here?” Obviously strandled a bit Viktor pulled away and rubbed your shoulder a bit “What’s going on?”
“Five found a way to get back home! No apocalypse or anything like that, we can go back!” You quickly explained and started walking towards your car, but stopped when you realized he wasn’t following “Viktor?” He shifted in his place thinking “I hate to tell you this, but we only have fifteen minutes-“ you started, but he cut you off
“I’m taking Sissy and Harlan” Viktor practically stated “What? Viktor you can’t do that, their disappearance could have major concequences” you shook your head looking back at your watch. 13 minutes.
“What consequences would it create if we’d just take a farm boy and woman with us?” Viktor obviously had enough and he headed back to his car “We don’t have time for that Viktor!” You pulled him by his arm back and he only snatched it away “Viktor don’t” you warned him shaking your head, true you don’t have powers, but he doesn’t have to know that
“What’s so wrong about this? I love Sissy and am not leaving her!” You knew he did. He loves Sissy, but you kidna were in denial. “What?” He looked at you still angry, but more confused now that you’re silent. 2 minutes.
“Sissy isn’t the only one who loves you, you idiot” you said and got into your car, but Viktor stopped you by your hand
“What?”

Between the Bones (Leon x GN! Reader) - Chapter 37
The squad learns what they're up against, and Krauser gives Leon some brutal advice. As per usual.

There was no return to normalcy. No getting back into a comfortable cycle of pain and perseverance. How could there be, when the squad reported for First Call and you weren’t there? Leon had always felt galvanized in your presence. Your strength was his own. When he felt like he wasn’t sure he could go on, you’d been there, urging him forward. As morning drills began that first day, it wasn’t just his aching muscles and bruises that held him back.
You can’t let yourself fall behind with me.
His time in STRATCOM had taught him that he had a bit of a problem with authority, but he obeyed your words anyway.
Even if it would mean moving past you.
Even if it meant listening to the teachings of the men who did this to you, because true to his promise, Hellman was there to greet the squad for morning drills. Krauser looked just as angry as he had the day before. If the Major’s smile meant a world of hurt for the recruits of the US Strategic Command, then what did his scowl mean?
Leon supposed he would be finding out soon.
It was the final phase of training. That was what Krauser announced that first morning; that in eight weeks, if he and the others could pass the tests, they would graduate and be assigned into service. He would be an operative of STRATCOM. An agent of the United States.
Not a soldier.
Not what you or any of the others had been before this, but an agent, like Reed and Hellman. The two would indeed be assisting Krauser in training, offering lessons in the more shadowed of services. Secrets and broken locks and false names. The blacked-out text on a report. That was what he would become.
That was what he would become without you.
Six weeks until you recovered.
Eight weeks remaining in training.
The number was sobering. Staggering. The other recruits, the rest of his squad, didn’t know what that meant yet. They weren’t aware of what they were about to be facing down.
They would learn soon enough, though.
They would learn about Raccoon City, about the bioweapons created by Umbrella, and then they would graduate and be sent off to fight nightmares made flesh. They would be forced to see and fight and kill things that Leon had never imagined before that one night last September.
Eight weeks before they were all sent to hell.
And while he would be out there, fighting, you would be stuck here, trying to catch up for the time you lost. He tried not to let himself get lost in that thought too much as he pushed his injured body through Krauser’s ever-more difficult exercises - and Krauser’s still-sharp glares. The pain of it all was familiar enough now that he could endure it. He ran harder and faster, strained through the near-failing of his muscles as he carried the ammunition case across the obstacle course, not letting himself drop the added weight. He did all of that because he knew that, in eight weeks, his newfound strength and speed might be all that saved his life from some newfound horror.
And, however he felt about them, he knew that whatever skills Reed and Hellman were here to teach might do the same. So, he swallowed his anger when he reported to the two agents with the rest of the squad later that day, gathered together in a room that reminded Leon of his time in the police academy, with desks and a projector.
He didn’t bother to hide his sneer when Hellman began his speech. Even as he was reminded of who the real enemy was.
“You were all chosen for STRATCOM based on exemplary performance or impressive feats,” Hellman began, and again, Leon was put off by just how different he sounded, now. How genuine. “Most of you have served with distinction, and I have no doubt that you would have had impressive careers - that you still will . . . but now that you are on this path, it isn’t glory that you’ll be getting. There won’t be medals or ceremonies. What would have brought you accolades before can never be spoken of, now. Your service will be hidden from the world, because you will be keeping that world safe from threats that it can never know are real.
“You will be the first line of defense against things the world has never seen. You may not receive glory for it, but your country will owe you a debt it can never repay.”
The noble sacrifices.
Leon tried not to scoff at Hellman’s wording, because he made it sound so heroic. Leon knew better. He knew that they wouldn’t be the unsung knights in shining armor. They would be the living shields for the world. Ones that would be cast aside when they broke at last, just as Andersen and the others already had been.
But who else could it be?
“And what exactly is it that we’re going to be fighting?” Valeria asked, not bothering to offer respect to the man who hadn’t earned it. “Who was so dangerous that you had to fucking torture us to test our strength?”
Hellman didn’t react to her insubordination, but Leon tensed because Valeria very nearly hadn’t been allowed to be here.
Just like him.
We’ll need every soldier we can get.
That and Krauser’s influence had been all that spared them. That knowledge that the fight they were preparing for was unlike anything the world had seen before, against an enemy unlike any other.
“The Umbrella Corporation.”
Confusion was the first thing that Leon felt in the room. “The pharmaceutical company?” Alejandro clarified with a raised brow. “We’re going to be taking down people in lab coats?”
He didn’t know. None of them did. But Leon had reacted the same way, once. He’d not believed Ada when she’d told him that the company had created the horrors that now haunted his dreams and waking moments alike. Then he’d seen it firsthand. He owed a bullet-sculpted scar on his shoulder to one of those people in lab coats. And he owed months of restless nights to them too.
“Not the scientists, necessarily,” Hellman shook his head, and Reed stepped forward.
“Breathe a word of what you see in this room, and you will be tried for treason.” That was all the warning that was given before he reached forward. The agent flipped a switch on the projector to turn it on, and laid a semi-transparent image over the glass. There were murmurings of disgust. Surprise. Confusion. For Leon, though, it wasn’t some newfound terror. Even blurred and black and white, the image was one Leon recognized immediately. Rotting flesh falling away from bone and muscle. Teeth bared and darkened with viscera. A hand with bloodied nails reaching towards the camera.
Leon’s body reacted before his mind. Muscles tensing. Heart stuttering. He had to repress the urge to run. To aim his gun and fire desperately, even if he was sitting in a room miles and months away from Raccoon City. Even if he was just looking at an image taken from what had to have been that night or the days before it.
It was good - or, perhaps, not so good - to know that his memory when it came to the zombies was clear. Crystal and cruel.
“You’ll be fighting the bioweapons they create.” Hellman announced, letting the knowledge sink in.
There it was. The truth that Leon had wanted the men and women around him to know. And now that it was there, he almost felt guilt for that, too. Guilt, because he wished he didn’t have the knowledge he possessed.
No. Better they know. Better they’re prepared.
“This image was taken during the Raccoon City outbreak, and is just one of many reported variants of bioweapons that were found in the city.” The energy in the room shifted, then, because even if they didn’t know the truth of the matter, everyone in the country had heard of Raccoon City. The strange disease that had broken out, and the city’s destruction to keep it from spreading. Not untrue, Leon supposed. Just omitting key details. Redacted information. Cover-ups. He supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised that this was the path his life would take, going from one ghost-story to another. And even now, it seemed there would be more lies of omission. “According to our intel, there was an accidental release of viral weaponry in Umbrella labs beneath Raccoon City. Reanimation of corpses as well as drastic, fast-acting mutations were characteristics of said viruses. They were transmitted through water contamination and, later, through bites or scratches. The viruses escaped into the city and reports of violent individuals started popping up in mid September. By September thirtieth, the situation was deemed uncontainable.”
And then Raccoon City, along with the monsters in it and those people still trying to survive within it had been wiped off the map. Nevermind that this had happened because one doctor had offered the US that same viral weaponry in exchange for his safety. Nevermind that maybe none of this would have happened if they’d just taken the man into custody from the start.
Leon supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised by the exclusion of that information, either. These men needed everyone in this room on their side. On the country’s side.
“This is what the Major’s been training you for. Fighting against something that can wipe out a city in a week,” Hellman went on, clasping his hands behind his back. "We will endeavor to teach you how to avoid that fight. How to find the people responsible for the creation of these bioweapons before they can utilize them.”
Tracking down Umbrella before another outbreak could happen, in other words. Cutting the head off the snake before it could bite anyone else.
Too little, too late, Leon knew, because the cat was out of the bag, now. If the US knew, then other countries probably did too. Umbrella was a company. They would protect their interests, their assets. Viral weaponry that could “wipe out a city in a week” had to look good to someone out there. It had looked good to the US, after all.
“The training we give you in the following weeks will never be complete,” Hellman warned, pale eyes sweeping the room of soldiers in front of him. “We could never give you full CIA-level instruction in time to send you after Umbrella. What we can give you are the tools we believe will help you to find and stop them.”
Not soldiers. Not CIA. Something else. New weapons for a new war.
“They have facilities across the world,” Reed said, speaking in that usual cold timbre that made Leon’s hackles rise. “You’ll need to learn to adapt to new environments. Speak new languages. Pass where you’re not supposed to.”
“And if we’re caught somewhere we’re not supposed to be?” Alenko asked from Leon’s side, picking up on what Reed was implying immediately.
Leon already knew the answer before Hellman even spoke it. “The world can’t know about our operations any more than they can know about Umbrella’s research,” he said, adding to the gravity of the room. “But you were all chosen for your skill, and allowed to continue this training for the strength of your wills.” For holding out under interrogation. Leon didn’t miss how Reed’s eyes landed on him, then. He ignored that biting gaze, just as he’d been ignoring Krauser’s all day.
“So if we get captured, if we die out there,” Alenko went on, his usual jovial tone gone, “then we shouldn’t expect anyone to come get us. That’s what you’re saying?”
To his credit, the look Hellman gave in return actually looked understanding. Sympathetic, even. That didn’t change the fact that he was promising them unaided struggles and unmarked graves. “As I said, your work won’t bring you glory. But it will be more important than anything you’ve done in your lives.”
Lives that could be turned into hollow shells. That could be warped and mutated into mindless violence.
With or without the influence of a virus.
But with nowhere to go but forward, Leon tried not to let those thoughts rule him. There were other things to think about.
Things that the rest of the squad were thinking of too, by the time dinner rolled around.
It had been quiet for so many reasons since the interrogations, but now there was an added layer of heaviness. Worry had carved creases across the foreheads of Leon’s squad, a sharp contrast to the exhausted but otherwise unburdened lower-level squads sitting at other tables. Young men and women who didn’t know yet what they would be facing.
“So,” Williams finally said, trying to break the silence with hushed humor, “I guess we’ll all be able to put ‘monster hunter’ on our resumes after this. Not that anyone will ever see those resumes.”
Leon wanted to smile at that, but all he could think of was dead hands and rotting breath and gnashing teeth.
No one else laughed, either, their thoughts no doubt stuck on the images they’d seen earlier. The agents hadn’t told them everything yet. They’d have a hard time doing that in one day. Today was about fear, Leon knew that. Scaring everyone shitless so they’d respect the reality of the situation, like at Fort Benning when Cortez explained how a wrong move in a tank could earn you crushed limbs. With tanks, though, there was a field manual to understand; a list of knowns. With bioweapons . . . “How the hell are we supposed to fight those things?” Alenko asked, keeping his voice down so those cadets who didn’t know what awaited them couldn’t hear.
And Leon knew then that he could help. That he could give his friends an edge before even the CIA did. So, he answered quietly, trying to adopt the easy authority you used when giving corrections in sparring. “The zombies, you shoot in the head,” he said, and all attention at the table turned to him. “Higher-caliber rounds work best. The more of the brain you can destroy, the better.”
His squad looked at Leon like they were seeing him in a brand new light, realization slowly dawning across their faces.
“There are other things, though. Different weak spots. None of them go down easy.” Because even once you knew where to shoot, where to place those bullets, it all came down to whether there was actually an opportunity to do so. Whether one had the ammunition required, or the moment needed to aim. “You have to be smart,” he warned, letting memory weigh down his words, “and you have to know when to run.”
There was a beat of silence as Alejandro leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table. “Sounds like you’re speaking from experience, brother.”
All sorts of secrets coming out lately, Leon thought as he nodded once.
“I am. I was there. In Raccoon City.”
He knew how he’d been thought of when he first arrived. He wasn’t blind to the judgmental stares when he’d struggled. The whispers that that kid’s gonna get himself killed. It was strange to be seen by everyone as you’d seen him so early on.
“Son of a bitch,” Alejandro muttered, in disbelief.
“How the hell did you make it out of there?” Alenko asked, and Leon wished he had a better answer.
“Luck.”
That was what it had come down to. His skill with a gun, his ability to think on his feet, they’d helped, but it had been luck that he’d been near those who could save him when skill alone failed him. Luck that had given him the tools he needed to survive. Skill, certainly, but luck was the reason he was still alive.
He couldn’t change luck, though.
So, he would focus on the two of those things that he could control.
⧫⧫⧫
The Major didn’t look happy to see him. Not that it surprised Leon at all.
He’d held out for a few days. He’d been focused in that time on throwing himself into the new lessons Reed and Hellman led. Languages, communication, codes, hell, even some hacking and lock-picking. All skills that may save Leon’s life, but not the ones he’d need if he ever came up against another monster that could fold a helicopter in two. Not that a knife would do much against such power either, he supposed. Still, he wanted to be ready. Had to be. For a while, he thought that he could get away with only sparring with Williams, Valeria and Alenko. Alejandro had joined them, and every so often so would the other members of the squad. Sparring while Leon told them of the hard-earned wisdom he had collected that night in Raccoon City. They were good, there was no denying that. But they weren’t you. They lacked your speed. Your instinct. Your gift for violence, earned not because you were a violent person but because you’d had such unspeakable violence done to you. You’d been a whetstone for his skill, and if all he had was eight weeks, then he needed them to be sharper than ever.
So, he took your advice because you were right. Krauser was the best fighter on base. If you couldn’t spar, then Leon had to find other ways to become better. Even as Major Krauser scowled at him as he approached and all Leon could think of was the fact that he knew.
He knew, and he wasn’t saying anything.
Why wasn’t he saying anything?
How long had he known?
What had he seen?
Another set of thoughts to be set aside. If Krauser wasn’t going to make trouble for you and Leon, then it was a situation that Leon could ignore.
God, he really hoped he could ignore it.
It was a little difficult when the Major kept on looking at Leon like he wished he would cease to exist. Leon thought for certain that the man’s mood would brighten a touch when asked to spar. Beating the shit out of Leon had to be something he’d be interested in, right?
“What? Your friends can’t be bothered?” Krauser grumbled.
“My friends are taking the night off,” Leon shot back, because, frankly, he was tired of the angry glares. Tired of all the bullshit. His time here was ending, and it was Krauser’s job to make sure he survived after the fact. “I need a sparring partner.”
What he got was an ass-kicking. Not that he’d expected otherwise.
Still, Leon allowed himself to be proud of the fact that he actually put up a fight. He remembered sparring with Krauser all those months ago, how easily the Major had wiped the floor with him. It made each strike he earned against Krauser’s skin feel all the more vindicating. He’d gotten used to defeat thanks to you, and he’d always been able to get back up, even before that. A good thing, too, because Krauser was fighting like he had a score to settle.
A kick with the force of a freight train hit Leon in the stomach, sending him falling backwards with a grunt. The Major didn’t waste any time, rushing to the ground with an overhead stab. Leon rolled out of the way just in time, hearing the scraping of metal against dirt. Dust washed over him, sent in a wave by the blade of Krauser’s knife, just enough getting into his eyes that his vision wavered.
Unable to see, his heart rate spiked, trying to urge him to get up. To defend himself. He felt Krauser’s hand close around his wrist - the one whose hand held the knife.
Leon acted quickly, bringing his other hand up, taking the knife. Slashing out almost blindly. Luck was on his side once again as he felt steel scrape against steel, parrying Krauser’s attack. The force of the blades meeting sent tremors through Leon’s arm, and it was through sheer will and memories of your words that he held onto the knife.
His vision cleared and he was in a better position to attack, so he slashed at the Major’s wrist, freeing his own in the process.
The two men got to their feet, putting some distance between each other.
Krauser didn’t look impressed. “Thought with all that extra sparring you’d be better than this,” he said, and Leon wasn’t sure if it was a good sign that he was talking shit. Was it a return to form? Or just more anger? He might have gotten his answer when Krauser went on with words like a slap to the face. “Guess you weren’t really paying attention to the fights though, were you?”
Leon knew it was bait. He could recognize that. Still, it was a shock to the system to hear Krauser imply it so openly. Even as a taunt, Leon hadn’t expected to hear it. It was just enough of a surprise that when Krauser rushed him, the younger man fumbled.
The feint was just fast enough for Leon to fall for it, and as he chased Krauser’s blade with his own - or where it would have slashed across his stomach - he nearly didn’t move fast enough to avoid the slash across his throat. You were fast, but Krauser? It was fighting you but dialed up to eleven, and it was too much for a fatigued and still-bruised Leon to handle. The blunted blade grazed his neck as he threw himself backwards. Off-balance, he nearly found himself losing his footing as Krauser pressed the attack, switching the knife to his left hand and thrusting it forward. Leon twisted his arm, getting his knife on the inside of the attack, his other hand going for the replacement . . .
Too late, and he coughed and sputtered as Krauser swung his knife up and over Leon’s shoulder and sent it point-first into the side of his throat. Even if the Major was pulling the blow back, it landed hard enough that Leon knew he’d have a new bruise tomorrow.
“Sloppy,” the Major shook his head as he pulled the blade away, stepping back.
Leon retreated away, pressing a hand to the newly hurting spot on his neck. The pain was kindling for his anger - he’d moved past the frustrations of losing in these sparring matches, but he felt it now all the same.
So he attacked first, this time. Hoping to catch the Major off-guard.
He nearly had him, too, after a quick exchange. Nearly. Krauser twisted his knife inside Leon’s guard and switched hands again, kneeing the younger man in the gut and then running his blade up Leon’s arm in a move that would have filleted the flesh from his bones if it had been real. Then he pulled the knife away and drove it into Leon’s chest. Another bruise.
“Where’s your focus?” Krauser snarled into Leon’s ear. “Your Sergeant isn’t here. Keep your head in the game.”
Why the fuck was he pressing the issue?
Leon shoved Krauser away - no small feat to make that mountain of a man move - and dropped into another ready stance. Resetting into another round, even as his muscles pleaded with him to stop.
No. He wouldn’t be given a break out there. There would be no mercy.
That was why you’d told him to do this, Leon knew. Krauser was as close to the real thing as he was going to get, if you were unable to fight.
So, Leon charged again. Over and over, even if he ended up on the ground nearly every time. It was those first few weeks with you all over again. Near-victories followed by crushing defeats. All ushered in, Leon knew, by Krauser’s taunts. The Major was all too aware of that fact, as he swept Leon’s legs out from underneath him. His back hit the ground yet again, and this time Krauser didn’t even bother to go for a pin or a finishing move.
“What did I tell you about being distracted?” the Major sneered, tossing his knife up and catching it in one smooth motion. “Because it’s the people who get distracted out there that end up dying.”
“I’m not-”
“Don’t bullshit me. You have a weak spot and you’re letting me exploit it.” A weak spot. Leon had never once thought of you that way. You kept him going. You’d given him strength in the worst days at STRATCOM. Even during the days spent in those cells, the silent looks you would give him often felt like all that was keeping him sane.
And then they’d beaten you in front of him, and Leon had broken.
“You think I’m the only one who will figure it out?” The question was quiet, but cut straight to the bone. It was what you and Leon had talked about, all those nights ago. The last time in days that he’d seen you. And it was killing him. It hurt not to train with you. To get those reassuring looks when no one else was looking.
You’d told him from the beginning that this life didn’t guarantee that the two of you would be together.
He couldn’t let your absence drag him down.
But he was frustrated and hurt, so he looked up at Krauser from the ground with a glare. “Why not report it, then?” Leon challenged, because that question had been eating away at him. “Why not let Reed and Hellman kick me out like they wanted to?”
Krauser’s eyes flashed, and Leon knew that he’d overplayed his hand, admitting that he’d heard that conversation.
“Get up, rookie,” the Major ordered, “and focus, or maybe I’ll change my mind and let them send you home.”
Leon wasn’t sure if Krauser was serious or not, at this point.
Whatever the case, he pushed himself up with a groan anyway, part of him debating just walking away. No. He wouldn’t give in that easily. He never did. So he stood his ground, meeting that disapproving stare that had been fixed on him for the better part of a week. The Major wanted focus? He’d get it. He wanted to talk shit? Leon could give as good as he got.
So the younger man raised his knife, still keeping his gaze locked on his opponent. “Maybe you’re the one who needs to focus. Sure are taking an interest in something that’s none of your business.”
Krauser didn’t take the bait, but Leon saw his expression shift. His brow creased further, his eyes glinting. He thought that maybe he'd hit a nerve, but that moment of emotion was gone quickly. “That the best you’ve got?” he asked, and then Leon was on the defensive again, blocking quick strike after quick strike. Their hands moved fast, and Leon’s mind never once wavered from the task in front of him. Right up until he ducked under a swing, his blade held parallel to the ground, and ran it straight across Krauser’s side. He followed the move through, ending up at the Major’s back, going for a killing blow to the spine. It didn’t quite land as Krauser whirled around, knocking Leon’s arm out of the way. Another side kick distanced them, but Krauser looked down at his side for a moment, looking at where Leon’s knife had connected.
When he looked back up, he gave an almost reluctant nod of approval. “Not bad.”
It wasn’t much assurance, but Krauser wasn’t you. Leon would take what he could get.

A/N: Leon said "Why are you so up in my business?" and Krauser did not have a good answer to that question.
Speaking of Krauser . . . I did in fact cave and started writing his lil spin-off, it'll switch between Operation Javier and flashbacks of before, during and eventually after Between the Bones. Because I'm a hooligan. First chapter is out already! Even though I said I was gonna wait but I have no self control, oops. It is absolutely nonessential to the plot of this, and any references made to it will be fully explained in context but uhhhh I like the goofy beret man, so it exists now!

Week in Review (8/27/23)
Back with another week in review (shout out to @trulybetty because her week in review posts inspired me!). Leaving everything under the cut since it's long.
Tumblr media
Fics I read this week:
Frankie Morales
Just a Number by @linzels-blog - I love a slow burn, and this is one between Frankie and his new neighbor. The two of them have some insecurities and things they need to work through but I am so hopeful for these two!
What You Do To Me (and Part Two) by @musings-of-a-rose - Frankie and reader met at a bar. She's not used to being to one getting hit on but Frankie is just so sweet. They eventually meet again and he's in all his 😺 👑 glory. 😉
Two more dips into the Catfish Pond by @trulybetty:
Bookstore - This is a follow-up to the two I mentioned last week. Frankie and reader have moved across a few states together by this point.
Hangar - Frankie may have some ulterior motives when it comes to giving you a tour of the base.
Javier Peña
An American Hero by @secretelephanttattoo … I was always curious about what went down with Javi and Katie in S3 of Narcos. This story is now canon for me 🤣!
Señorita by @lavendertales - Reader is Agent Murphy's estranged sister. It's a reluctant friends-to-lovers story.
Jack “Whiskey” Daniels
The House by @gemmahale - OFC grew up going to her adopted grandfather’s farm which was located next to the Stateman Distillery. After he passed, she inherited the property. Just two chapters so far and I’m hooked!
Joel Miller
Drip by @trulybetty - Grab the tissues for this one. It does reference events around TLOU2 so if you want to avoid spoilers then maybe pass (for now!).
Compulsory Reading:
The following are the series I have been (trying) to shout from the rooftops. I get so excited when I see a new chapter from these. Unfortunately, some of them are nearing their ends. 😭
Here are the ones who dropped new chapters this week. I still have a couple that I need to catch up on!
Frankie: The Layover by @goodwithcheese, The Pilot and His Girl by @avastrasposts, Shared Breaths by @frenchiereading
Javier Peña: Late Night Texts by @mvtthewmurdvck, It’s Never Too Late by @javierpena-inatacvest
Marcus Pike: Common Grounds by @whataperfectwasteoftime
Mr. Ben: Visiting by @ladamedusoif
Dieter Bravo: Destiny & Deliverance by @mysterious-moonstruck-musings
Things I watched:
We're about halfway through Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy. I also caught up on some Real Housewives.
Today Mr. Rhoorl and are doing what we call movie baby swap: One of us goes to see a movie while the other hangs out with our daughter. Then when the first movie is over we meet at the theater to essentially hand her over so the other person can go see a movie 😂 We do this a couple times a month because we both love going to the movies (yay for our AMC A-List membership) and it's some alone time. Today I'm going to see Haunted Mansion and he's going to see Strays.
Fun things from the week:
I had my mid-year review this week, which consisted of my manager giving me a high five as we talked through some upcoming projects 😂 I love her and that exchange is so us. It was a great way to start the week which divulged into madness because #corporate
We took our daughter to her first professional soccer game! Although our team ended up losing, we had a lot of fun and surprisingly stayed the whole time. (Going places with a toddler can be a crap shoot sometimes).
Gotta brag on Mr. Rhoorl for a second because he let me sleep in on Saturday and took our daughter to a playdate. #HesMyFrankie
Speaking of Frankie, I daydreamed about his hair a lot this week thanks to posts like this.
Things I'm excited about:
Although it's going to be a rough work week, I am looking forward to attending Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios for the first time a week from today! (If you don't know, it's a really big Halloween event with haunted houses and scare zones. Orlando completely goes all in for Halloween across all of the theme parks). I've never been before but dammit TLOU for finally pushing me over the edge. 😂
Fic updates:
I had a burst of productivity this week (hours spent on plane were a big help) and published new chapters for both Working Title and Delta Landscaping. I'll give a WIP update later this week for anyone who cares or is curious.
That's it for me! I hope you have a great week. Remember to drink your water and get some rest. (Saying that mostly to myself 😆)
Bonus Pedro for making it this far!

Working on something new‼️
Tumblr media
After all the fights and mind games you and Ben had, you've finally decided to let him go. Last night was a blur as you faintly remembered dragging Ben's ass out of the club when you saw him grinding with someone on the dance floor.
The thing is, you two were never official but you had always thought that that was the next step. You had known him for almost a year and you two had been sleeping for almost 5 months. Guess Ben had an entirely different idea as to where this relationship was going. You erupted at him last night, spewing words at him that no longer makes sense to you in hindsight. You were mad, desperate, confused, lost. You were all these things, and all you ever longed for was peace, which is why the next morning, you ignored all of Ben's text messages and calls.
You went to this new park that just opened up. It was quite far from where you lived but you assume that Ben would never have thought you'd be there. Furthermore, you had informed Fei about your plans and had asked her a favor that should Ben asked for her help to locate you, she'd either lie or not help him at all.
I'm stuck as to what I wanna happen next with this one 😩 but here's my idea: Sparrow Ben and the reader will NOT end up together. Instead, reader meets the Umbrella Academy and had become fascinated with Umbrella Ben and maybe even ended up meeting him somehow?

For years what haunted your face was your father Reginald Hargreeves' expression of disappointment when you confronted him about time traveling with your super speed, "You're not ready for this Number Eight, now go back and sit down to your meal !” was the phrase that always tormented you, if he hadn't been an asshole to you and your brothers for his whole life of up to 13 years at the time, it was likely that you would have heard it, now, you paid every day for your rebellion, at the age of 13 you ended up in the apocalyptic world, to discover that it was not your timeline that had ended, but the timeline of those known as the Umbrella Academy, you in your small incident, obtained the achievement not only of traveling in the time, but changing timelines, you collected what information you could, you discovered that the moon had been obliterated the first night you spent there, it was hard not to see it, after all the stars were much brighter and there was no sign of it being a new moon, you in the early days worried how you would live in that world forsaken by God, since now your powers only allowed you to reach a speed below the speed of sound, it was enough for exploration, but it was useless. il for you to come home.
20 years passed and life continued to be difficult and tedious, you lived moving from bunker to bunker, from the oldest to the bunkers that you discovered the location on your travels, they had food, light and allowed you to have a shape until quite acceptable for the conditions you were living in, that's what you had, and you liked it, even though you were all alone, and with your searches for someone never turning up, you wondered if really all the Umbrella academy had been so incompetent to there isn't even one left with strong enough powers, but one day you were surprised, living in another one of your bunkers, enduring the monotony of life, sitting on the comfortable couch and reading one of the last books you had, everything seemed unchanged, until a shot grazing his ear and causing him to almost die of fright, it was a man, appearing to be a little older than you, being in his early forties, his clothes were in bad shape, and he wasn't too far from it either, but his rifle, his rifle looked brand new.
“ Stands up and walks back ” You were even momentarily thrilled to hear the voice of another human being after 20 years of just film recordings, but that thrill passed as soon as that man's rifle barrel pulled your focus, you gulped. and got up, walking backwards and waiting for the right moment to make use of his powers once more for something exciting “Who are you? How did you get here? ” In response you stammered your name, unused to having to speak, but it came out better than you expected, when the man entered further into the room, lowering your guard minimally you attacked, your speed allowed you to throw yourself against him, making you both two fell to the ground and the rifle fell out of his hands falling away, but just when you started to think you had won the fight a blue glow filled your eyes and the man was already standing next to your gun again, for seconds you didn't understood what happened, how he had managed to get out of his grip, so his brain reasoned the obvious,
that was probably Five Hargreeves, the only one who wasn't among the bodies trapped in the rubble of his old house, and according to what was in his sister's book, he was able to teleport, you got to your feet quickly hiding behind from her couch when another shot rang out.
“I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT WITH YOU! ” His voice came out desperate as his eyes looked for any object he could use to attack if he didn't hear you.
“You attacked me!! How do you not want to fight? ” It was a valid argument, but you couldn't afford to kill or die for the only person present in this god-cursed world, so you decided to play with the few options you had
“Look, you shot me in the side of the head, invaded my base and now you're ready to kill me” You took a deep breath, slowly getting up from behind the sofa, quickly coming under the rifle's sights again, but this time, you were satisfied to keep talking
“ I only acted to defend myself, I haven't seen anyone on Earth for 20 years, I don't want you to kill me, nor do I want to try to kill you… I'll answer whatever you want, okay? But I hope you don't make the wrong decision and kill me and go back to being alone in this world again” Human being is always going to be a social animal, playing with the loneliness playbook was the best you could do and you did your best to make his use masterful, you can hear the gears in his head working, thinking beyond his survival, he then, even a little conflicted, lowered the weapon.
“As you said, you will answer everything I want, so we can go back to the question I already asked you, how did you get here?” He began, pacing the room a little way, his guard still high and his eyes never leaving yours.
“From what I've reflected over the last few years, my power allowed me to do that, but what should have been time travel turned into a trip to another reality…” Before you could finish, he cut your train of thought short.
“How do you know it's not your reality? this is the end of the world, things normally aren't going to look like they were years ago” You let out a snort, he was seriously questioning your wisdom to a degree beyond measure, treating you as if you weren't able to tell the difference, and what frustrated you the most was that he treated you the way you treated your brothers, but unlike you, they were complete imbeciles, they were people that you obligatorily shared a bond with, because they were raised together, but they were nothing more than stuck-up people who competed to ingratiate themselves with your father, and you hated it so much.
“You are Five Hargreeves, right? Son of billionaire Reginald Hargreeves, right? ” You looked in your pocket for a photo you had with your brothers and father, time had dulled it and the ink in its corners had completely disappeared, you didn't remember why you still kept it with you, seeing all the disgust and hatred he felt towards his brothers and father “Does this look like the Umbrella Academy to you? ” You showed him the photo, letting Five take it out of your hands to look closely, he then lifted his head, his eyes showing an expected surprise for you.
“ Where are you from then? ” came more like a restrained whisper than a question itself, but it was enough to believe that you spoke the truth.
“I am the daughter of Reginald Hargreeves, number eight at Rain Academy” Five spent a few seconds looking at the photo again, and after that, he looked at you again “You already know who I am, so I don't need introductions, how did you find this bunker?” With that you let out a breath cut by a laugh before answering “ The right thing would be to ask how you didn't find them, some I already knew from visits in my reality, others were in books ”
If he really was someone intellectual as he made himself look like the disdain in his assertions and questions, you wondered how one of the basic constructs of survival slipped past his brilliant brain. “ I had more important things to look for than a bunker” he replied, avoiding her gaze for the moment, and feigning interest in his weapon. “ hmm… like what? ” You enjoyed the teasing, and it was his turn to let out an angry breath “Like find a way to get back to my family ” The disdain and sarcasm that dripped from those words sounded like a failed attempt at an apology and not an obvious reason and fair, and you didn't believe it.. “And wouldn’t it be better to find that way in a safe environment?” His smile seemed to make you more and more furious, but since he would criticize with a smart and ironic question the things you say, you dedicated yourself to do the same. “ Where is the bathroom in this place? ” Five started to move in search of him before he even heard his answer, trying to escape a conversation that he would lose. You walked a little while catching up with him very quickly “ Third corridor, it's the first door... And yes, I let you use the bathroom and the items in MY base ” You accompanied him smiling to the bathroom door, receiving an angry look “ I just I won't kill you because you're not worth my time ” and the door was closed in your face. It seemed that things were starting to change, and you had no idea if these changes would be good or bad, but the simple fact that you wouldn't have to go through these times alone already brought you relief that you would never admit. It didn't take you and Five very long to get used to each other, each of you had acquired certain "Mannerisms" in your time living alone, so adapting to them was the most challenging thing for you to wake up and see the part of on top of a mannequin in the bunker room, (which Five insisted on making you call her Dolores) dressed in women's clothes gave him some scares, as for Five, it was funny to see you every day talking to the television while repeated movies were playing always passing. After a few months you had to move to another bunker, a bigger one this time close to the big city, or what was left of it, it was still good to see some buildings and houses, it was good to have contact even if weak with the life left behind. With time you started to think of Five as a good friend, the only one you'd ever have, but anyway, but still, he gave you things you didn't expect to come from him, oddly enough, he was a great listener, even if the answers and advice given after your girly ramblings were thick, you knew he was being sincere, and that's what you liked most about him, unlike his brothers, he wasn't lying, cunning or selfish, he really cared about his family, and even if slowly , started to care about you, it was nice to have someone like that and you liked it, even in a world where things were upside down and you didn't have much to worry about.
Five had also brought a vision of the future to you when you first arrived here, even though it was a difficult place to survive, in case you didn't know about the bunkers, but still, you had no plans of wanting to return to your family, so when he suggested that you came with him, not for your own reality but for his, you liked the idea more than you would admit, so as time went on you focused on the things you wanted to do when you got back together, forgetting all the complicated part of a self your already live there, of course otherwise. Have you briefly imagined what your life would be like if you hadn't been bought by your father, maybe living on a faraway farm, raising your family in a happy environment, even if you weren't sure if you really knew what a family was, you would like to try.
“I'm going to lunch now, are you coming?” Five's voice pulled your head out of the clouds, and you noticed that you hadn't even finished unpacking your clothes, in your hand was the old Rain Academy uniform, you remember the phrase from your old home as if you heard it “When the sky is falling, always keep your umbrella with you”
“ Ah… yes, yes, I'm coming ” Five approached you and quickly removed the old uniform from your hand, looking at the already worn piece of clothing “ The old man didn't even bother to be creative, it's literally just like my old one” Having said that, he threw the garment back on your bed, you followed the garment falling onto your bed, now losing your interest.
Five never forced you to talk about your traumatic childhood, but you knew that at times like this your emotions show more than they should, you considered it a weakness.
Getting up from your bed, you went back to the living room, Five had done the favor of leaving a plate for you already arranged on the table, so what was left for you was to sit in the middle between Dolores and Five and watch one of the movies new ones you had found in this new bunker, Five tapped his fork a bit hard on his plate, this usually meant he was going to say something and usually during meals, he would talk about how you guys should explore the surface outside the Bunker more, and honestly, you didn't understand why.
“I think we should…” you cut him off by slamming your fork down hard on your own plate “I don't think so” the phrase came out of your mouth with an intonation to put an end to that matter, but you knew that Five was the only one of you two putting an end to things, he dropped his plate on the table and stared into her eyes, his face turning a little red with anger “And why not? If we don't do anything, we're going to remain living on canned food and living in a world of shit!" you sighed, Five wanted to explore with a very obvious reason, look for a way to get back home, but you assumed that if for years he had done such an action, and continued empty-handed, it seemed that to spend your time on it was to waste it, of course you would manage to cover a large part of the whole city in a short time, but deep down in your heart you knew you weren't going to find anything, and maybe rubbing it in Five's face once and for all after this search would bring reason back to his empty head.
" Want to know something? Let's go then! Let’s go on this quest that seems to be extremely useful !” Five's sarcasm had attached fast to his own words, but if he heard such mockery in your voice, he simply ignored it, taking advantage of the opportunity you had thrown at him.
You wanted him to see that the only chance for you two to get back to his reality would be with his powers, there wasn't even a machine that could allow time travel.
You finished eating, your own food going down your throat already cold along with all the anger you were building up to explode later, and then you left for your room, and while you packed your things you couldn't stop yourself from complaining, but without utter a sound from your lips, you then met up with Five at the door of the bunker, he remained with his face as closed as yours was, so when finally the doors opened, and revealed the world caves in.

My #1 post of 2022
My husband has been experiencing Dracula Daily vicariously through my [melo]dramatic retelling of it (Me: “Then Dracula skittered *down the wall* like an entire-ass lizard!” Mr Semicolonoscopy: “He can DO that?!?”), and he’s really disappointed when there’s no new Dracula Daily. He stuck his head in the bedroom earlier and asked “Any Dracula today?” I said, “Nothing from Friend Jonathan,” and he replied “DAMN IT!” I think he’s gotten pretty attached to Friend Jonathan.

April 2022
·  Destroy what you know.
·  Bonding with Margit over a 90s nostalgia attack triggered by a plastic pacifier necklace I'd seen. Thinking about going wild at a toy store spending a fixed budget on silly toys and gummy snakes.
·  Iced green tea flavoured with lemon and prickly pear.
·  Sending lenghty, image-heavy text messages to my mum (they're basically personal essays) after not talking for 5 weeks.
·  Buying a Lindt chocolate bunny as a treat for myself, just because it comes with a pink ribbon now instead of a red one. It's white strawberry chocolate and yes, I am indeed a marketing victim.
·  Instead of crossing things off a list I highlighted completed tasks with my new "magic" colour-changing pencil. And it was beautiful. But I'm one step ahead already; I should have mentioned writing with my favourite black ink pen on crips white paper (I was just about to write that I love extreme contrasts - thinking of black on white paper and nice black and white patterns on clothes - but in fact this really applies to my whole life. Living in extreme duality, having a hard time finding balance...)
·  Dennis remarking on how deliciously polarising he perceived me when I said that I actually went to the butcher's last week (as a vegetarian) but only bought a Capri Sun and explained how I thought artificial cherry flavour was far superior to the actual fruit.
·  Anastasia made a green bunny ring for me out of paper! Kawaii!
·  Exaggerated morning reunions with Becky.
·  Patterns combining royal blue and pink. I finally need to find the right dress to make up for the one I found in that Mexican outlet mall I didn't buy.
·  Olivie Blake! The Atlas Six has everything I want in a book: dark academia spiked with magic; mysterious libraries, undiscovered power, interesting characters and very insightful dialogue (I highlighted so many quotes - I feel seen in some of the character's observations and descriptions). The Secret History meets the Umbrella Academy - I could hardly put it down. And there is a sequel coming in October! I'm psyched!
·  Shopping my closet: I pulled out the Monet dress again and wore it immediately. It looks like a close-up of one of Monet's Nymphea paintings. Dark, lush greens and fresh pink for the petals.
·  An Easter surprise from my mum: Chocolates, a labradorite egg and some money in a pretty confetti box.
·  About compulsive habits.
·  The last day of school. Little presents from the kids, hiding Easter chocolates, watching an English movie, helping them draw bunnies. Bonding with Doris helping each other with some unfinished business, talking about her upcoming trip to Mexico. She even gave me a soda and drove me to the bus station! Later: A celebratory massage. Dinner with Helga at the Chinese hotpot restaurant. Then I hung out with Manu. Deep talk, play fights. We work so well together. He's one of the few people I can actually talk about emotions with.
·  The first real concert in over two years. I saw Bilderbuch at HP8 the other night and damn, Maurice is still hot AF. But it was very weird to see thousands of people together, not even wearing a mask. I kept mine on because I didn't want to risk my trip to Seoul but I still felt a little anxious.
·  I didn't have to pay for my PCR test and the (negative) result came after only 3 hours! Highly appreciated.
·  My trip to Korea was fantastic. I booked it on a whim (as I usually do) when I saw that South Korea accepted foreign vaccination certificates starting 1 April. I got major Japan vibes - sakura season, the food and the behaviour of the people, lots of cultural affinities like karaoke, binge drinking or cute things. And people are all so (uniformly) stylish. But they don't really warm up to foreigners so that was a bit of a challenge. A few things and moments I loved: a Korean crash course with GJ - I think I frustrated her when she wanted to teach me vocabulary but all I was interested in was the structure of the language and the logic behind the letters and signs / meeting Eléa and Emma on the plane - we spent a few days together in Seoul; Eléa is basically my astrological twin! / a fun evening with Korean BBQ, somacs, a photobooth and renting a karaoke box together / riding the Namsan cablecar together with the Frenchies (incl. Léa) / the amazing folk art museum in Seoul - I learned so much; they recreated an old Korean village in the gardens and had an exhibition about Korean customs, holidays and beliefs - so interesting / Iceland poppy! / walking through Bukchon village, entering a tiny lille museum where Mi-Yeong the curator sat down on the floor with me and taught me how to play Gonggi, a Korean children's game - on my last day in Seoul I invited her for lunch at a vegan temple food restaurant near Jogyesa temple - we had a four course meal in a private booth! / art in public toilets; public toilets in general - so clean! / taking a flight to Jeju island - choosing a guesthouse with a resident cat (Laksumu) / beautiful walks, waterfalls, flowers everywhere, smelling the ocean / an island tour with two guys from Singapore - lava cave, climbing a mountain, getting our jeans (very) wet when we walked into the water barefoot, a very weird communal foot bath experience - my higlight was learning about the Hanyeo (the women divers on Jeju) / a day in Seogwipo, a beautiful seaside town with lovely vibes / a Jeju orange and strawberries for breakfast / solving an entire NY Times crossword puzzle in the sunshine, lying somewhere in a park with an iced coffee / visiting a Korean bathhouse, spooking the ladies there with my foreignness / roasted corn chips / cute pet cafes with Benjy - the merkats were my favourite / an otherworldly tasty mushroom burger at Shake Shack / and oh, the SHOPPING.
·  Making summer rolls with Manu.
·  McCain Golden Longs - the perfect fries.
·  My annual Girls' Day tour with Jonathan. I love that day because I get to learn about interesting jobs and I find it very inspiring to be able to look behind the scenes. I always engage in deep talk with Jonathan too. A lovely, sunny day. I especially loved the wood printing company we visited. The boss, Malte, is a physicist who is not a full-time artist. If he'd offered me a job I would have immediately said yes.
·  Lebanese Friday lunch at BeirutBeirut with Doris. Who is my friend now. I'm still struggling with her change of mind. We looked at old photos afterwards and looked for wigs and sunglasses in the cellar.
·  Flea market at Theresienwiese with Lena! Trying on all the flashy glitter jackets. Buying little treasures and a beautiful leather jacket in a rusty red. Lunch at Café Mariandl. Creamy mushroom dumplings!
·  Ostentatio Genitalium in Renaissance art.
·  Learning that the origin of my name, Katharina, might very well be the ancient Greek goddess Hekate, who is "variously associated with crossroads, entrance-ways, night, light, magic, witchcraft, knowledge of herbs and poisonous plants, ghosts, necromancy, and sorcery." How cool is that.

Five: No, Vanya and I are different.
Five: She has a resting bitch face. I have a resting "I want you all to die" face.
Vanya: It's a subtle difference.

Week in Review (8/20/23)
I saw @trulybetty post a week-in-review last week and it inspired me to start something similar on my page. Over the past couple of weeks, I shared some of my fic recs on Fridays, but I figured I'd share a little bit more. So thanks (again) for another amazing idea B!
What I read:
Frankie Morales
The Layover by @goodwithcheese. This is a given to be on my list every week, I just love this series so much!
The Pilot and His Girl by @avastrasposts … Triple Frontier in the TLOU universe. I love crossovers and this one has been *chef's kiss* and a mainstay on my weekly reading list.
Two from @trulybetty:
Stood Up Being stood up for a date doesn't end so bad when you meet Frankie at a bar.
Flings A series of short snippets between Frankie and the reader as their relationship progresses...love the way this one was structured!
Jack Daniels
Cognitive Dissonance by @prolix-yuy A crossover bringing together Kingsmen and Westworld. I was obsessed with Westworld, particularly Season 1 (happy to yell about later seasons with anyone), and this concept is just too good!
Dieter Bravo
Destiny & Deliverance by @mysterious-moonstruck-musings. One of my WIPs is a Dieter fic, so I'm not reading a lot of him right now, but this is the exception. It's such a beautiful story.
Marcus Pike
Common Grounds by @whataperfectwasteoftime. It's been a while since I read a fic with my favorite FBI agent (and by a while, it's probably been like two weeks). Marcus is just so damn charming in this!
Javier Peña
Late Night Texts by @mvtthewmurdvck. Javi receives a text from the wrong number. It's soft Javi at his softest and cutest.
It's Never Too Late by @javierpena-inatacvest Javi and an elementary school teacher develop a relationship after he comes to her school for a presentation.
What I watched:
On the plane, I watched a few episodes of Abbott Elementary. It's been something I have wanted to watch for a while and I loved it! Can't wait to watch more. I also started season 3 on The Umbrella Academy.
Things I'm looking forward to reading:
I have such a backlog of fics I want to read! Too many to list here, but I'll probably work in a Marcus Pike and Joel fic next week ... I miss those two 😆
Fun things from the week:
💜 My husband and I are on just our second trip alone together since our daughter was born (we are still on vacation through Monday). It has been fun to get away and not listen to Frozen on a loop…love her but I need a break from Elsa. We've kept pretty busy but also had some time to just chill at our hotel.
💜 In Tumblr land, I have been having so much fun interacting with everyone on the Delta Landscaping and Working Title posts…it really makes my day to see all of the feedback! So thank you to anyone who has taken time out to read any of it.
Fic Updates:
Working Title - This week Chapter 7 came out and also a little extra piece that's a companion to Chapter 6.
Delta Landscaping - I hit a bit of a wall earlier in the week, but after a poll and some nice, encouraging messages I got back on track. I'll have Chapter 2 out later today!
That's it for me!

Guys! I’ve just finished season 2 of The Umbrella Academy like every other person on the planet! and I have ~feelings~
I don’t want this to become a multi-fandom blog, so I’ve set up a little side blog for this current hyper-fixation!
Follow me @thisumbrellakid for some TUA silliness. I’m going to reblog my first few posts here, but don’t worry - there won’t be any season 2 spoilers at all!  ☂️💙
