Hey anyone want to be crushed by the reality that in stopping the unknowing Jon became unknown to everything around him. He stops being Jon and becomes The Archivist and the only person who acknowledges that there's anything left of the person he was is Martin.

Recently I got really into The Magnus Archives (I know, like 7 years too late or something I can’t do math) but with the Magnus Protocol coming out I might still be able to join some of the fun!

Anyways, here’s my attempt at the Unknowing from season 3, mostly to frame my boy Timothy in the best light possible! Tim is probably one of my absolute favorites (I know, pull a number) and I wanted to take a stab at drawing him first! Definitely not the last TMA thing I’ll post!

Like many of you, I am fascinated with the state of Jonathan Sims head archivist of the magnus institute London... In particular, his ribs! Many focus only on his missing two, but there are many more things to consider!

Jon's a fragile guy, I mean it's pretty much his whole canon appearance! For a man like him to be thrown around like a ragdoll for pretty much his entire time as archivist, he'd certainly have suffered more than a few broken ribs!

To contribute even more to the damage, after the unknowing, Jon was found with no pulse and not breathing, meaning he would have undergone CPR for at least 20 minutes. And trust me, THAT BREAKS RIBS.

Aside from bones, I can't imagine Jon's lungs are in the best state either. He's a long time smoker, was exposed to dangerous amounts of CO2, and survived a massive explosion followed by a collapsing building. Needless to say, these sort of things make it hard to keep lungs healthy!

Despite all the pain and horror, I like to think that Jon managed to stay looking at least relatively put together, so picture this:

A polite, slightly awkward office worker comes into your clinic. You decide that to diagnose properly, you'll need to do a chest X-ray! He's distracted, but readily agrees. After the brief wait, you get the images back, and see THE MOST FUCKED UP CHEST YOU HAVE EVER SEEN. A horrifying amount of healed fractures, warped and re-broken; two ribs are just straight up gone, both lungs scarred beyond survivability, and somehow this guy is just sitting there. Alive, as far as you can tell.

The man remains composed, and smiles politely as you stare at the X-rays, and you begin to think that maybe those aren't acne scars across his face.

Au where in the Unknowing, Jon Knows the one place in the building that will still be standing after the explosion.

Jon manages to get Tim there and shields him with his own body just as the explosion goes off.

Tim lives- Jon’s in a coma. Martin and Tim are chilling together, visiting jon in the hospital. Martin doesn’t fall to the lonely. Everything is FINE

So relisting to mag 117 and I noticed something

The first screenshot is from Tim’s statement, where he has come to the conclusion that Gertrude’s militant approach to stopping the entities was the correct one.

Fascinatingly, in Jon’s statement immediately after, he makes one of the first big decisions that really separates him from Gertrude — he decides to burn Gerry’s page and let him rest in peace instead of keeping him around for his knowledge— which would have been what Gertrude would have done, what Gertrude did do.

I think this really helps us see just how strong the disconnect between Tim and Jon is at this point. Jon would rather make things harder for himself if it meant Gerry didn’t have to suffer. Tim on the other hand is so cold and wrapped up in his suffering that he’s unwilling to see an alternative to militantism.

And the thing is — neither is entirely wrong, but one thing is clear to both of them — Jon is not Gertrude.
