Episode 6
Ah Episode 6! As I watch these beginning ones again, I am just struck with how lost I was still in my first time through. I didn't know names, I didn't have context, l was just absorbing as much as I could while enjoying watching my babies struggle with themselves and each other. Now, I can see the build up of everything we're headed into, and how this period really becomes the "idyllic youth" for both (or all, really) of them. If everyone was able to at the end to sit down with one another they'd probably start off with "hey, do you remember that time in the Cloud Recesses..."
Anyway on to the more detailed thoughts:
• Nie Huaisang sneaking around after curfew with peanuts is not suspicious at all, nope
• Okay, I have to say it - these are not the cool kids in school, I don't know that there are ANY cool kids at this school, but these are nerds. Blocking the light with robes and a weak ass talisman, and waxing poetic about the flavor! of! the! wine! The cool kids cringed
• I love that Wei Wuxian's first instinct is always to embarrass his little brother, and poor Nie Huaisang asked the question so he deserves to be shoved around between them.
• My baby barges in, unannounced and is immediately "why didn't I get invited?" and "you are all getting punished, right now"
• My other baby "We did good today! Have a drink with me!" And that is a cutsleeve reference, you can't deny it. So basically, Lan Wangji kicks his way through the door and Wei Wuxian's immediate reaction is "I want to climb that like a tree!"
• Then as the others run away and by baby is immobilized by the talisman, WWX closes him in, and has him do shots, well one anyway and is somehow still surprised when that goes badly. My other baby can be so dumb.
• Let's put him to bed, try to help with proper positioning of accessories and then get into depressing conversations. That's Wei Wuxian's game, and it sucks. But then it works? I mean, he does wake up in that bed. (I know, I know)
• I love that Lan Qiren has seen Wei Wuxian multiple times and punished him almost all of them, and it's only now when Lan Xichen talks about him that he's like "who is this kid?" and then "Crap there's another one."
• Lan Xichen must think that stories about Cangse Sanren are the funniest thing ever, he didn't even try not to react. Who told him that story? Or is it just kinda written down in the logs, "visiting disciple Cange Sanren punished for the offense of shaving the beard of Lan Qiren without his consent"
• Lan Xichen "Wei Wuxian is great! Brings life to the place" Disciple "WWX got drunk last night on the forbidden alcohol" Lan Xichen "See? Such youthful exuberance" Disciple "Lan Wangji was found with him" Lan Xichen 😳 *shocked Pikachu noises*
• Lan Wangji races to the pavillion to get punished, and I know that we're supposed to be thinking it's because of the drinking, and disobeying the rules, but he's really there because he had impure thoughts about a boy and is hoping to have some sense knocked into him
• Punishment with my other baby is kinda hard. I have lots of feelings and not really funny thoughts about what punishment means to ADHD kids, and abused kids, and the complexity of being both, and I could probably write an essay (based only on personal and family experience), but it doesn't really fit here. Ask me about it later
• Lan Xichen: "you just got my brother in trouble, why don't you go join him for a bath? Nothing could go wrong with that, experience tells me this" 😉
• I really wish that someone would have sat Wei Wuxian down and told him stories of his parents, my baby doesn't know anything and doesn't know how he fits anywhere. Just knowing more about them would have put him on such a healthier path seeing as he would be able to take pride that he exists, that he is theirs, and that it means something special to be their son
• Hearing Wei Wuxian call his name Lan Wangji immediately thinks "I am not clothed enough to deal with this bane of my existence, I might display a *reaction* and now I must smother my feelings and ignore him"
• Lan Wangji does not get enough credit for being reckless, here he is, in a cave that he didn't have any clue existed, so let's just walk straight up to the instrument on the pedestal! I looks like it's so old! What have I found here, it's amazing! And oh shit it's attacking Wei Ying! What am I going to do? Yes, using my sacred headband and tying him to me is reasonable, it's only so he doesn't get killed. That is against the rules after all.
• This is the official first use of inquiry in the show, and it seems like it's a mystical connection with the spirit world/plane of existence. And we know from later that they go ahead and teach this method to kids. I wonder if any spirits get super frustrated like when you're on hold forever and then the rep you finally get can't even help you, or sometimes even understand the problem. Even if I just wanted something mundane, I would totally turn into a resentful spirit if I had to deal that
• Let's see, five soon-to-be great clans and four pieces of Yin Iron? Yeah, that makes sense
• Lan Qiren to Lan Xichen: "this is not like Wangji" Lan Xichen: "what are you really concerned about?" Lan Qiren: "a storm is coming" WTF! I already said that Lans suck at communication, but damn, you just could have said that you think they might have eloped
• I wish I understood better the illness that plagues Jiang Yanli, cause mostly it seems that they went "and she shall be weak for plot related reasons we refuse to justify" Jiang Yanli is my treasure, and I will not have her treated this way by the writers.
• Wei Wuxian is so damn excited to meet Lan Yi, it's so cute!
• Lan Wangji to Lan Yi: "forgive me, but aren't you dead?"
• So for our introduction to Yin Iron we find out several important things: 1) the clans had no idea how bad an idea of creating a taboo was. Forbidden knowledge always works out great for everyone 2) Yin Iron is not to be fucked with, and some idiot went and corrupted it about a thousand years ago and no one can undo it. 3) Baoshan Sanren and Lan Yi were together, and the mirror image of Wangxian 4) bunnies can live for hundreds of years if they wear headbands

Episode 7
This and episode 6 are a the first of several times where I just went on a binge in my first watch (probably watched like 8 in a row?). BUT you kinda have to them together, and I was already so invested that I said "what is time anyway?" Anyway, details below! These get long, and they only promise to get longer, just remember, I did warn you.
• Lan Yi's been in Cold Pond Cave long enough that her girlfriend raised kids, who've had kids. She's so pleased but also sad. She's probably done the "what is time" thing too. I hope those bunnies have been half as entertaining as this show
• And she somehow knows of Baoshan Sanren's seclusion? But didn't seek her out for shame? She's trapped in the cave, this makes total sense. No, no it doesn't. I have questions! How is this done? Who is capable? It's one freaking line, and I'm already wondering on the implications
• Lan Yi: "nope, didn't bring you here, I guess someone else is fucking around with the other Yin Iron pieces, sorry" Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian (teenagers): "We will fix this! We are completely qualified!"
• Here's where you can really tell that this plot point got shoehorned in, the Yin Iron is the "spirit of heaven and earth, which can't be eradicated" and yet later after the defeat of Wen Rohan, those pieces are suddenly gone. "Nothing to see here folks! We destroyed/suppressed them more successfully than our ancestors even though we know less about them!"
• I love that we hear Wei Wuxian shouting before he and Lan Wangji fall through a cliff face. What was WWX doing that made LWJ mad this time? Winding that ribbon closer? That's my guess anyway.
• "We've been gone how long?!? Oh what a long story to tell, it would be so boring! Of course, here are some minor distracting details - it was cold! Well! Let's all head back shall we?" I feel like everyone should know that Wei Wuxian is lying here, or at least leaving something out. Wen Qing gets that something is missing, but the person that should absolutely know better, Jiang Cheng, just decides - brother re-aquired, return to sister.
• I have to laugh so hard at this - we're in a private lesson essentially that bad things are happening because of this piece of "universe" and our probable enemy has one too. WWX response is that "we use that one to find all the others!" And LWJ thinks that it's a GOOD IDEA! These are just over eager children.
• Jiang Cheng is such a petulant little brother! "Now you're close with Lan Wangji, stay here I don't care" I'm not really sure how close they actually are in age, but Jiang Cheng really knows how to be the baby. As a certified youngest sibling myself I can attest that it is his God given right to be dramatic.
• My baby! Don't worry, wwx isn't rejecting you, he just doesn't think he could follow all the rules, and he really really can't. It will be okay.
• Xue Yang is so happy to get permission to murder people. I get it, I too would like to smite my enemies. My only concern is - dude why are you waiting for the okay to do so? He doesn't actually do what Wen Rohan wants him to anyway, so ?? Kid's got issues.
• Oh Wen Chao, what to do with you? Wen Rohan who is the current Cheif Cultivator, and currently acquiring more power through dubious means of Yin Iron, has a separate chamber to put you in rather than face you to speak to you, and your response is "I'll do what I want, there will be no consequences to that" such arrogance, I am so happy you die.
• WWX so happy: "you smiled" LWJ's immediate reaction (internally): uh oh, I smiled and he he saw! Now I must kill him it's the only reasonable response
• I feel bad for Nie Huaisang's lantern getting burned, they are finally doing something that he's good at and he doesn't get to show it off. Also - "it cost so much, you'll never be able to replace it" is amazing! Jiang clan obviously has money, but WWX must always be running out.
• Then Nie Huaisang's wish is to finally pass, please please let me pass! Such a slacker wish. Kid, I love you, but just study.
• Upon hearing the succinct wish of Wei Wuxian's only ambitions in life, Lan Wangji can't help it - falls in love even more. And his immediate reaction is of course "and I will do this Yin Iron quest by myself to see that WWX has a world where he can live his dreams"
• The fight between Jin Zixuan and Wei Wuxian must have gone on for awhile and obviously Jin Zixuan got the worse end of it, my baby is a powerful cultivator and probably also fights a bit dirty. I can't say that I blame him for it, with the nature of dynastic marriages it had to be a huge insult to the Jiangs that Jin Zixuan publicly declared he didn't want to marry (my beloved treasure) Jiang Yanli.
• My baby was really initiating conversation!! I'm so proud of you! Okay, so Wei Wuxian isn't actually crying or anything, but! No baby! Don't storm off! Shoot.
• And we learn for 100% positive that the only way that Wei Wuxian knows how to interact with things he finds cute is to poke at it. LWJ could have learned something if he just stuck around. (And oh lord! I have to leave the comments of on his knees alone, there's way too much there)
• Jin Guangshan walks in - yuck
• Jiang Fengmian - "Wei Wuxian is at fault, so I take responsibility" Jin Guangshan - "no, no, my son is at fault, so I take responsibility" Lan Qiren - "Don't worry I have already punished them appropriately"
• Again we have a dynastic marriage problem, Jiang Fengmian isn't really a great politician here, he doesn't want his daughter with someone who won't respect here but his response should have been something else to tie the clans closer together, not as good as marriage, but really the assurance of "how could it?" is not reassuring
• I am not exactly clear on what upsets Jiang Cheng. His sister will be sad? The political situation is not good for them? His mother will be angry? Running to spill to WWX is a certified little sibling move. And then Wei Wuxian runs off to check on Jiang Yanli, and finds her basically setting down all her hopes and dreams for the life she was going to have.
• Lans meeting with Jiang Fengmian: Don't mind us! Just a very visible silencing ward, nothing is the matter, don't pay any attention. We're definitely not discussing taboo Yin Iron topics or speculating on the Wen involvement, nope just having tea.
• LQR just gets finished telling Jiang Fengmian to be stricter with WWX, and then he just shakes his head at WWX's and JC's antics later. He barely even tries to stop them
• I love how it is severely implied that Wei Wuxian went and saved the rabbits and now doesn't know what to do. It's the establishment of a pattern for my baby. And it's only then that he figures out that LWJ is leaving him behind! Baby, honey - you just gave him a head start.

Episode 5!
In which we have library shenanigans and a night hunt! The Cloud Recesses arc just works for me, so cute!
• My baby has to drag my other baby back to detention, and he is so mad about it! (sorry honey this is just the beginning 😆)
• How many lines Wei Wuxian has copied by now in total? Surely he wasn't done with the first set when he got assigned a new one
• Lan Wangji: Leg down. Wei Wuxian: Sure! *invades LWJ personal space like a pro*
• Gotta say, there was no way Wei Wuxian was going to let Lan Wangji ignore him, like ever. Beyond the obvious attraction, WWX doesn't deal well with people's indifference. Love/hate he knows what to do with. He knows where he stands, knows what he can/can't manipulate to his benefit. With indifference, he's lost in the wind.
• Oh baby the sex jokes are for people who don't threaten you with their swords, or want to otherwise *ahem* exhibit their "swordsmanship"
• It's such a teenager thing to get flustered, and embarrassed and immediately want to simultaneously commit murder and die. Such a dramatic age!
• Next we learn that teenager Wei Wuxian is definitely the type to kiss and tell, or in this case aggravate and tell, and Nie Huaisang has lots of porn. Did he bring it with him? What was packing like for his servants?
• Wen spies are about! I love that Lan Xichen already knows that it's Wen Qing doing the searching, but my poor aggrieved baby thinks Wei Wuxian could be up to something!
• I always forget that we meet Su She this early, way to look both pompous and useless dude, hope it works for ya
• Jiang Cheng is so so gone on Wen Qing it hurts
• The group: "Zewu Jun! Please let us go with you! We promise we're really good cultivators! And Wen Qing is a doctor! You never know when you'll need one of those! And Wen Ning is here, because - um, Wen Ning is here! Can we please go with you? Please?" Lan Wangji, mid gay panic "No" Lan Xichen, mid smirk and scheming about LWJ getting married "The more the merrier!"
• Night hunting seems to be part Scooby-Doo mystery solving, and part wizardry: fun for all the teens!
• I know I'm watching this on Netflix, but I will always call this thing the Waterborne Abyss. Even if the thing is just angry seaweed, Aqua deamon just doesn't work for me
• My baby is actually skilled, quick thinking, and smart! Too bad my other baby is so far into gay panic that he immediately defaults to being mean, even after childhood stories
• Damn you Su She! The thing was just identified as something you kinda want to flee from right now, so you send your sword into its depths?!? Were you dropped on your head as a child?
• I love that Wei Wuxian's first thought I to rescue his new friend, and that he identifies quickly that Wen Ning will have issues with ghosts, and makes him a talisman.
• Buy a comb, Jiang Cheng! She bandaged your leg, and you are already in love!
• Lan communication sucks. There I said it. Lan Wangji literally cannot manage basically at all, but Lan Xichen? This guy only ever says maybe a third of the information? Case and point LWJ: can the spirit snatch and waterborne abyss be related? LXC: I hope I'm wrong

Episode 4!
The best part of these episodes is how we get to see the starting point of basically everyone in the entire show. Knowing more, you can pick apart places where it all could have gone a lot differently. Even right here in the beginning. Enough of my rambles, enjoy my other rambles.
• Ah the Cloud Recesses, such beauty, too bad my baby is late and can't appreciate it
• Everyone is here! It's before the everything that happens later. It's cute, but I'm sad for them, you know?
• "And even though all of you are from different clans, we will recite 3500 of our rules to you"
• It is so funny to me how many people are paying much more attention to Nie Huaisang's chittering bird.
• Lan Wangji literally stared at Wei Wuxian until he had his attention, THEN looked away "bored"
• Meng Yao, how do I even start? I knew later that he'd be what he became, but here when he's so little and new and likes Lan Xichen so much. I just really wanted to root for him.
• Wen Chao sucks
• Wen Qing is amazing and Wen Ning is so such a pure cinnamon roll (I know, I know, I'm dating myself horribly with that.) Their story is just so heartbreaking, how they become pawns, how they loose and keep losing, seeing the beginning here makes me think about what I'm in for
• We're at a saluting ceremony, perfect place for a sword fight! Everyone reaches for swords to defend themselves, and Meng Yao steps in to protect Nie Huaisang!
• It basically ends in an example of the Lan musical cultivation since Lan Xichen plays, takes control of everyone's sword, and ruins the floor
• I love that Wei Wuxian's immediate response to Nie Huaisang's "you're so amazing!" comments are "Yay! New playmate! Let's go catch fish!"
• Official sleep lecture time! Or we could pass notes, play pranks and doodle. What part of this is not causing trouble? Baby? I know that you've faced consequences in your life, but do you just forget?
• When Lan Qiren tests WWX here, it's just smacks of pettiness. He wants to knock him down. Look, my baby came from behind to know all this stuff, and although he goes about it for the sake of arguing, Wei Wuxian isn't really wrong here about the complexity of the actual answer. He's already anticipating the shades of gray in life. But baby, did you have to mention digging up dead people?
• Wen Ning!! Sweetie you are really good at archery, go ahead and accept praise! The friendship between these two will always be one of my favorites. Wen Ning is loyal to the bone, and loyal very very fast. Before the Ghost General was born, he still risked his life for WWX
• Do you think that Lan Wangji actually went to the Library Pavillion first to look for Wei Wuxian, or did he already know better? I think either option is hilarious

Wherein we have the first meeting! 😁 I remember thinking at the start of this episode on my very first viewing thinking "here's where things are going to start making sense" and then just a very short time later "nope, still weird" then Wei Wuxian met Lan Wangji and I just fell for it. So here, my thoughts on what is kinda original beginning of the end for me.
• Jins book out an entire establishment, to the surprise of no one, and the affront of many.
• I hate how Jiang Yanli is already sad over Jin Zixuan, my darling girl you deserve the world, and he's (currently) an ASS
• In Wei Wuxian's flirting/charming of Mianmian to get their rooms, I know my boy is a flirt, but I wonder if he's tried that line before. And what I find really funny is that it's the other girl that caves! She convinced Mianmian that the Jins didn't need all the rooms.
• Jin Zixuan can complain about anything, and my good God, he's the best of the lot? He does have some pretty eyeshadow, though.
• On discussing their sister's arranged marriage, love the mutal "sect politics" shrug. My babies are just BABIES here.
• So when Lan Wangji shows up, the first disciple we see with their mouth just agape - I feel you.
• So LWJ totally heard WWX scheming behind him, and thought "not on my watch" then heard him talk about the not-quite-dead guy and thought "hm, he's smart" and then turned around and thought "oh no, he's hot" and he's just not ready for that. And that's the reason their exchange went the way it did. I mean, barring that, he would have at least said the Lan clan equivalent of "let me talk to my manager" and not let them think they were going to have to sleep outside.
• Does breaking through the wards happen often? 'Cause my baby just made that look like a cakewalk. He had more trouble climbing in to the Cloud Recesses then breaking that ward.
• I love that WWX thinks he's in the clear and LWJ is just right there waiting to scold, and WWX just refuses? He tries to talk his way out, fights to a draw with one of his hands full, and then says basically just says no right up to the point of his second experience with the silence spell.
• LWJ: you don't like my family's rules, have fun writing them 300 times.
• WWX finally gets to talk, and immediately makes things worse with his "explanation"
• I love that Lan Wangji didn't want Wei Wuxian to know that he went back for the Jiangs. It's the epitome of the "don't embarrass me" moment.
• A curious moment in the evening with the partially animated corpse. We have a mystery on our hands!
• Why is it that Xue Yang knows where this yin iron is and what it's capable of Wen Rohan doesn't?

Episode 8
Teens are on the loose! We will have adventures, we will get into mortal peril, and we can't keep secrets to save our lives! I love that we have Wei Wuxian chasing after Lan Wangji because he doesn't want to be left out of their quest, Jiang Cheng chasing after Wei Wuxian because he's sure his brother is an idiot, and then Nie Huaisang is there because he doesn't want to go home. Here we begin see that the (other 4) great clans are really behind the eight ball on this, and it's only going to get worse. Anyway, I have a surfeit of things to say, so without further adieu:
• So we go backwards a bit to have Wei Wuxian try and find Wen Ning, only to see that all traces of the Wens are gone. I like to think that strolling up to haul Wen Ning out for archery practice or other fun was just a thing that Wei Wuxian did regularly. My guess would be no since Wen Qing is there to be protective and not rock the boat with the rest of the Wens, but I think it's a fun theory anyway, so I'm gonna roll with it
• Back with bunnies, and I just want to point out here that Wei Wuxian is perfectly capable of holding an entire conversation on his own. Baby, that bunny cannot speak to you and if it could it would ask you to put it down!
• Wait, wait, wait - they really just tossed rabbits around like that for filming?!? I really hope that they did that one in one take. Please treat your rabbits with kindness!
• When Lan Wangji leaves and bids the rabbits farewell, he just looks so soft! I just want to cover him in bunnies. My guess, Wei Wuxian went back for the rabbits on his own, which of course was noticed by Lan Wangji, but he couldn't join because his brain went bluescreen at the cuteness of it.
• Wen Chao sucks
• Wen Chao is out in the rain and antagonizing Lan Xichen, just the look on Lan Xichen's face makes me believe that above and beyond the whole "your dad is trying to take over the world" thing these two have hated each other for years
• Wei Wuxian leaves in the middle of the night to chase after Lan Wangji, smart move as Lan Wangji is likely to sleep when it is dark, and WWX has some ground to cover. It's the smiley face though! Gets me every time. Just leave a note that says "I'm off to find danger! 😀" Not comforting, baby, just not comforting. Jiang Cheng clearly agrees with me
• Jiang Fengmian, what am I going to do with you? Actually, all the Sect leaders all seem to be locked up with an inability to act. Lan Xichen can do nothing to protect his brother right now, Jiang Fengmian can only acquiesce to WWX leaving and hope that things work out, Jin Guangshan is an asshat, and we haven't seen Nie Mingjue yet
• My babies are together again! And Lan Wangji, darling, please stop pretending you don't like him. I fully believe that Wei Wuxian is just talking to talk, he's offended to be left behind since he's an amazing companion in his own not so humble opinion, and literally the only thing he gets from LWJ is "how boring"
• Wen Chao sucks, but I want to know more about this bird
• The look on Lan Wangji's face when he gets hit with bonding/binding! It's 100% "bitch, you didn't!" which moves into 90% "fuck my life" and 10% "this is kinda hot"
• Yin Iron signal!! You are headed in the right direction! Okay let's be real here - does this mean that they picked a direction and decided that eventually it would work out? Because why, exactly?
• Nie Huaisang: "I know that laugh! I will pal around with my good friend Wei Wuxian instead of going home!" Sweetheart, why do you do this to your brother?
• In all honesty, I do think that WWX and NHS do see a reflection of themselves in the other. Conversation is easy, inside jokes are created on a whim, they can see how smart the other is, and their reasons for not conforming to the "I am intelligent and capable" mold
• Jiang Cheng is sneeking out of Lotus Peir via the very obvious front door. Really? That's about a subtle and sneaky as a ball through a window. Oh summer child, you have much to learn.
• I kinda can see that Jiang Cheng is worried about Wei Wuxian, after all they are brothers and Wei Wuxian's overconfidence is super obvious to Jiang Cheng, but the main reason he leaves is so that he isn't left out. There's a super cute story about a similar thing I did following my sister on a tricycle, so I get it.
• Jiang Yanli (my treasure) has now been left by both her brothers to deal with home life. Yikes!
• Back in Tanzhou, we learn that Lan Wangji does not like crowds (unsurprising), but that he will still follow Wei Wuxian (as long as he is pulled along), and that Nie Huaisang is good at remembering things. Also that Lan Wangji is the best looking man alive. The look on WWX's face when NHS says that is perfect. It's a blend of "oh, I see now, yes!" And "why are you noticing that" and "just fell more in love, thanks!"
• The poor florist lady's place is entirely ash - Wen Chao super sucks, and I still want to know more about this "Dire Owl"
• Wen Qing is really trying, both in her attempt to herd Wen Chao (who sucketh) in another direction and her subsequent "fight" with Jiang Cheng to give him a direction. I do feel bad for the innkeeper though, poor man doesn't know who to serve and ends up not serving anyone
• Sure, let's follow the terrified old woman into the creepy ghost town, surely we'll find a place to stay for the night! It even feels weird to WWX, and they still continue on! But she said "spirit snatch" so off to obviously, now we climb a mountain (that's at least a mile straight up) to investigate
• Old man "you should leave, this statue (naturally formed btw) steals souls, but if you're going to stay, you might as well stay here. Night!" Old lady - here's some kindling
• Well, we're in for a creepy night in soul snatch temple! Might as well get what sleep we can until it all goes to hell
• In the fight with the statue we have impressive displays of teamwork and bravery (and hiding: NHS) and I love that bonding/binding is useful! I've also noticed it's now a gold color. At the end of it she's back where she belongs
• Zombies are here! Sorry, I mean puppets. I know that they are about to converge on the temple, but sir, why do you have a bucket? And what is that wheel going to do? It really just looks like they are headed to make camp somewhere.
• Trapped in a temple! Those doors are not sturdy, kids. Better figure out what your going do when they fail

Episode Two!
This one is still a lot of setup, but really interesting things crop up. Coming back to this, I feel like it shows the truth of the upcoming events more than I gave it credit for the first time. Anyway, onto my long and rambling thoughts. I did say that I was going to make this your problem. You were warned.
• Wei Wuxian: "I have noting but this donkey (which i stole), now this donkey is running my life." A complaint?
• Since another of Wei Wuxian's inventions is shown (the compass), obviously the cultivation world can accept the value of WWX's work, but I find it interesting that there are now people alive that idolize him, (and even more interesting is his reaction to that). Seriously though, how old was this guy 16 yrs ago? Does he actually get away with idolizing WWX?
• I love that Yan's dance is beautiful, but so haunting.
• Damn that fiance cuts really precise firewood
• Cultivators are trapped in nets and we meet my favorite brat! Such a teenager, wasting the Jin family money, I certainly don't think that JC would have spent that much on the kid
• Soul eaters must be fairly easy to deal with, and yet rare? It seems like everyone is heading to this mountain, but the larger sects are treating it as a kid training exercise.
• Jin Ling immediately recognized Mo Xuanyu
• Ah, WWX baby, lay off the insults when pretending to be someone else, you're just going to get in trouble
• Okay, so ouch time - Jiang Cheng's first comment to a resurrected Wei Wuxian is "any last words?" WWX's actual last words were JC's name
• So the paperman is demonic cultivation now?
• God Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji HATE each other, and JC does some first-class projection asking LWJ if he's looking for someone. Like you stopped honey? You can't even make yourself believe that he died for real!
• LWJ is wearing blue!! 😍 I kinda wonder how hope like this didn't kill him
• That is probably the most petulant bow I have ever seen, my favorite brat!
• Wei Wuxian now has time for reflection next to the lovely stream, and don't forget guilt! WWX knew he died, but I do wonder where he is in relation to the events right before dying? How raw is his grief for Jiang Yanli?
• Why exactly is WWX investigating the soul eater anyway? Is he just fallowing Jin Ling around or can he just not resist knowing the answer to a question?
• That wish you made little brat? 'Bout to bite you in the ass, do as your uncle says and run dammit!
• My little Lans are unprepared and under educated!! How could you! I also love this lunch that Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji are having. LWJ glaring death at JC and JC pretending that LWJ doesn't exist. I wonder who figured out that the kids were in trouble first? Did they hear something? Did LWJ just get up from his table and JC follow?
• We know why Wei Wuxian was resurrected, why did someone decide to release Wen Ning close enough to respond to wwx's summons? We know that the statue was ultimately an illusion of the real one, so this was planned. Planned by which side?
• YOU FOUND HIM BABY! 😍😍
• I wonder about Jiang Cheng here, so quick to strike with Zidian (just like his mom) but his motivation? Like I said earlier, he's been looking for WWX too, is he trying to make sure that his brother isn't a vengeful spirit possessing people's bodies? And he can't even think to keep the pain off his face when he's reminded that in the eyes of the world he's the one that killed Wei Wuxian.
• Wei Wuxian - not going to answer that question, better just pass out.
• Now we're officially in the flashback
• I think it's a bit of foreshadowing that JC stops to issue his orders to the others and both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli him behind
• And we're off to the Cloud Recesses!

Episode One!
My lord! This was so strange to me the first time around. I knew that I wanted to watch the series, but the first episode had me really considering my options in life. Now though, I kinda love it! It's, um, fun? Wacky and cracky, it's still a fucking crazy beginning, but it works for me. That or my overriding love for the whole thing clouds my thoughts. Anyway key thoughts to keep this short.
- the narration at the very beginning being at odds with what we see/what we know. Love it!
- 16 yrs ago we all killed the bad guy! He's crying on a clif but whatevs, we want the artifact!
- Even when we have the 2nd hand account you can tell that my stubborn baby LOVES Wei Ying
- They did a great job making Wei Wuxian look sick, and his casual acceptance of Jiang Cheng's blade? Seriously, seeing this in the real time (or flashback or whatever,) fucks me up!
- Ominous cloud/wind supposedly tied to Wei Wuxian returning, two minutes later WWX "I wish I was still dead" ☹
- I love that WWX immediately thinks "how dare they!" when he gets beat up. Like, you've been awake two minutes honey, you are not the fearsome Yilling Laozu.
- The Mo's are objectively awful. "My cousin/nephew is not right in the head, don't pay attention to him *stage whisper* lock him up!"
- Wei Wuxian really didn't want to go through with all of MXU's revenge "plan," got to cause a scene (go full Koala on that pillar) and show off the shameful behavior of the Mos, it just happened to be that a ghost takes over and kills the offending parties for WWX. We're all in agreement that the Mos are dead, right?
- Am I the only one who thinks the juniors look strange without the outer robe? They're practically naked!!
- Wei Wuxian, "I know i was acting crazy earlier, but that was earlier! We don't need Hanguang-Jun!" Alright, so I must stop this fast, so let's just go straight back to controlling corpses, solid plan! My 2nd baby is really skilled, but subtrifudge is not one of those skills. Example 2: his new outfit.
- Did WWX steal Little Apple?

COMING SOON in 2k21! The Untamed Rewatch! I am 100% in love with this show. The characters, the story, the humor, the tragedy, the complicated sibling relationships, the bad cgi. I have thoughts to share, and I am making that your problem.
