Surfer Boy number update!
Now when you call, the recording comes instantly saying ‘the phone number you just dialed is available. 2499.’ And then cuts off.
Initially, I thought this meant that Netflix just stopped paying to use the number for promotional purposes and so now it’s available for someone to use, and I’m still partially leaning towards that.
However, there are a few things that intrigue me about this.
For one, all the other numbers ST used up to this point remain active, despite them all arguably being well past their need for use.
Murray’s number is still active, despite it being revealed way back in 2019 when s3 premiered and it appeared on the show, with the message still being him on his answering machine, hinting at the s4 plot. And Yuri’s fish fry is also still active, which is another number used for s4 promo sometime in early 2021.
Then there’s the number that appeared in s4 when the Cali gang called Nina, which currently still has the war games sound effect when you call.
The surfer boy number on the otherhand, was revealed in late 2021, which is when the surfer boy van made its first appearance in the Cali teaser that dropped. And for a very short time after that, the message was a birthday jingle, only for it to switch to Argyle explaining the ingredients of pineapple pizza (using colors of the rainbow). And now this.
So apparently it’s important enough to warrant them changing it several times, which in and of itself is a contrast from the others that were revealed and just stayed how they are. Not to mention, the fact that they used it for a birthdaygate Easter egg potentially, reads to me like this number is very much on their radar and it’s unlikely they would just throw it aside.
What confounds me most though about the surfer boy number presumably being dropped for promo while the others weren’t, is that the surfer boy number actually has a lot more longevity to be acknowledged in the narrative, with the van likely making a return in s5.
And not only do we see it repeatedly in s4 whenever the van appears, but the van is also used heavily in merchandise that is still coming out.
So wouldn’t you think out of all the numbers, this is the one they would want to keep active given that fans are still being reminded of it? Wouldn’t it be weird to distribute surfer boy van merch en masse, knowing the number would be called by people curious there’s an Easter egg waiting on the other end of the line? Because that’s generally been the trend up to this point?
Another thing about the message itself, is that I’ve never heard it before in everyday life? Most of the phone messages out there in the states are instantly recognizable to the average person who has spent time on the phone and they all go somewhere along the lines of disclosing that the number is unavailable, even when it’s not in use. The voice here also doesn’t resemble the usual voice you hear whenever you call a number that’s not in use.
It’s honestly also odd to hear a message say that a number is available, because that’s something I’ve personally never encountered. I even tried to look up on it to see if this message is common and maybe I’m just out of the loop, but every search led me to results saying the most common message is to say that a number is unavailable, again even when it is available for use.
And lastly, the most odd part of this new message is the four numbers at the end unprompted.
2499
The only connection I could find to this number is that it appears to be a slight mix up of the last four digits of the surfer boy number.
Original number: 805-45-PIZZA aka 805-457-4992
So is 2499 some sort of acknowledgement of the number itself? And if so, why wouldn’t it just be 4992? Why would it use those same exact numbers, but pull 2 from the end and put it at the front of the other three numbers? And then just end the message there?
It’s so odd to me.
While it could be nothing, I honestly don’t think it makes sense for Netflix to drop the Surfer Boy number altogether, given that they’re making the choice to not drop all the others. They could easily drop the previous ones and save some money if that’s the issue, but apparently it’s worth keeping them. And so why not keep the one that is still likely to be referenced going forward?
Regardless it’s likely that if Netflix still has access to the number, the message is bound to change again. So we’ll have to stay tuned for if and when that happens…
Edit: I FORGOT! There was another message for the Surfer Boy number, which preceded Argyle’s Pineapple pizza message. I only remembered after googling the number’s digits and coming across someone composing it. Still not sure what to make of it. Still so fucking odd…

I found this pic on Pinterest & I know like 10 things on the list lmao. How much are you aware of/know the stories behind, and maybe have stored in your large collection of various Jackass-related tomfoolery? (Like the "Too Hot for MTV" which I badly wanna see if possible lol)
https://pin.it/1u5rBYL3i
Just for credits sake, the person that made this iceberg is @loomisfallsgf
Tumblr media
Tip of the Iceberg:
Most if not all of these are known-about mainstream things that most fans would know about. All of these things are available on the discord server.
Jackass the TV series (TURD remux & TV rips) & Movies (All available in varying qualities)
Viva La Bam, Jackass spin-off focused on Bam & the CKY crew. Basically a CKY series. (DVD & TV Rips & Spring Break special)
Big Brother Skate Videos, Boob, Crap, Shit & Number Two (not in that order) were movies that went along-side the Big Brother skateboard magazine, they're essentially early Jackass featuring folks that worked on the magazine in the early days, like Knoxville, Tremaine, Kosick, Cliver, etc. etc. A lot of folks that came from the magazine and videos ended up working on Jackass (These are on the server including a custom ISO with all the movies on it and a DVD menu etc.)
Jackass Shark Week & Shark Week 2.0 were discovery channel specials aired in 2021 & 2022 featuring some of the cast doing things with sharks, they're are both available in 1080p
Wildboyz, Jackass nature spin-off with Steve & Chris. (DVD & TV rips available)
CKY Skate Videos - Landspeed, CKY2K, CKY 3, CKY 4 & CKY the documentary. These were videos that the CKY crew made before Jackass, from when they were in high school to after Jackass began. Available on the server in DVD, VHS & Remastered versions.)
Dickhouse, the original production company for Jackass, run by the cast & crew & former big brother magazine workers.
Bad Grandpa & Bad Grandpa.5 were a Jackass Presents spin-off of the original movies featuring only Johnny, Spike and the crew of the Jackass franchise. The other cast members weren't told they were making it not were they asked to be in it. (Available on the server)
Wee-Man's chronic Tacos is Jason's side business, he runs multiple taco joints. He was meant to have a TV series focusing on this, but it never got picked up. We have the promo on the server tho.
r/Jackass is... well. I have nothing really to say about it. (We have all AMAs from there tho.)
Wendy from Peru refers to a dog that Steve saved from the streets of Peru while he was there filming Ultimate expedition. He still has Wendy. (The youtube video where he talks about Wendy is on the server.)
Bam's Unholy Union was a VLB spin-off that focused on the lead-up and planning of the Wedding between Bam & Missy back in 2008. Dunn was missing from it due to him dealing with his blood clot and Lyme disease issues. He attended the wedding and he was around but as far as I remember he wasn't featured regular. (Available in both DVD and TV rip quality on the server.)
CKY, I assume just refers to the band. We have their entire discography, DVDs, videos, specials, BTS, etc.
Steve-O's Rap. A bad time in his life, during the worst of his addiction, Steve made a rap album named "The worst asshole in Hip-hop." It was horrendous, is still horrendous and is a hard listen. (We have the full album & Bonus DVD on the server.)
Steve-O in clown college could refer to the actual attendance of clown college, but there is a video from his website specifically named that, so I assume it's talking about that. Yes we have that on the server.
Tier 2:
Jackass the Game: Released after Number 2 for DS, PSP Playstation 2, the game is pretty fun honestly and still a fun little game to play today. (We have the game files, the manual, the actual game, the videos & montages, the voice overs etc. on the vault.)
Big Brother Magazine, I'm not sure why this one is below the videos, because I feel like the magazine was more known but I digress. (We have a number of issues of BB magazine on the vault, not every issue but a good chunk with the intention of adding more soon.)
Rick Kosick, I mean... does this just refer to him in general or? Rick's a long-time member of the crew, who also wrote, edited, filmed/photographed for Big Brother Magazine & videos. He's been heavily featured in most of the Jackass franchise content.
HIM, being Bam's favourite Band and heavily featured in anything he produced. We do NOT have their entire discography on the server *yet.
Action Point is a 2018 movie that featured Johnny & Chris that told the story loosely of Action Park which was a condemned amusement park that really had no rules, regulations or cares. The movie is avaliable on the server along with a lot of other movies featuring Johnny.)
MTV's Dunn Tribute was a special that aired on MTV in 2011, it was a documentary about Dunn, his life, his career and featured interviews by his family members, the jackass cast and crew, Ape & Phil, etc. An absolute must watch if you haven't seen it. (Yes, it's on the server.)
Haggard was a 2003 film made by Bam & the CKY crew loosely telling the story of Ryan's fucked up relationship with Lauren, his girlfriend back in the early days. She cheated on him and treated him like garbage. Obviously the movie is CKY-core, so it's not all serious but it is a good movie and definitely a must-watch for any fan. (We have it on the server & a HD remaster version.)
Dudesons, self explanatory I think. 4 Finnish men who've been doing their own version of Jackass since before Jackass began. This is referring to the relationship the Jackass guys have with the dudesons who've been heavily featured in Jackass media, the guys have also featured in a lot of Dudesons media. (Yes, we had a dudesons collection but it's currently down.)
Homewrecker was a TV show hosted and featuring Ryan which saw him "redecorating" people's homes/bedrooms in absolutely insane ways while in between teaching at-home pranks and generally being Ryan. One of the only things that doesn't feature Bam along-side him. (Available on the server.)
Bam's Bad Ass Game Show came out in 2014, it was one of Bam's first moments of "recovery and coming back to TV" but it bombed pretty hard. It was just a typical game show, where folks took part in stunts to win. Novak featured heavily in it with him. It ran for one season. (Yes, it's on the server.)
Dr. Steve-O was considered lost media (not to us tho, we have it) and it was basically a shitshow at the beginning of Steve's lowest point. It was essentially Steve-O trying to turn "pussies/nerds" into real men who could get a woman. Hard watch, but if you haven't seen it, a vital part of Steve lore. (Yes, it's on the server.)
#FreeBam refers to the batshit insane, idiotic fucking stupid movement created by that dumb bitch "Thatsurprisewitness" whos obsession with Bam and attention led her to create a movement to specifically hinder any progress or healing Bam had the potential to make. It's essentially a movement to keep Bam unhealthy, struggling and leading him to his death. The movement specifically targets the Margera family with harassment and blames them for any time Bam tries to get help, claiming they're "harming him." Anyone who supports the movement hates Bam and wants to see him die, period, full stop. (We have got interviews with him by that silly bitch, but I'd never suggest to anyone to watch them.)
Minghags was a 2008 movie created by Bam & Dico. It was essentially supposed to be a sequel to Haggard but it isn't fully if you watch it. It's not good and doesn't compare to Haggard at all. I watched it once and have never watched it again. (Yes, it's on the server.)
Manny Puig is a nature dude who's heavily featured in Jackass, Wildboyz and Shark Week. They seeked him out and asked him to be on the show back when it was on TV and they enjoyed his energy so much he became basically part of the cast & crew. Manny's also had his own shows, such as Ultimate Predator and Savage Wild, which are nature shows. (Both available on the server.)
Bam VS HIM refers to the DVD "Love Metal Archives: Vol 1" which had a bonus disc featuring behind the scenes, storytelling and general buffoonery with Bam & Ville while working on the DVD & multiple music videos. (Yes it's on the server.)
Ignited Farts in bathtub, Turbonegro - I'm not sure what specifically these are referring to, especially Turbonegro, besides them being a band Bam liked.
Jackass by Sean Cliver I assume is referencing the Jackass the movie companion book. (It's available on the server.)
Tier 3:
Ultimate Predator, as mentioned above was a movie featuring Manny, talking about and encountering various wild animals. It featured a number of crew members from Wildboyz like Mark Rackley & members of Jackass like Johnny, Chris and Steve. (Yes it's on the server.)
Jackassworld.com was the original Jackass website which shut down a number of years ago. The cast & crew would regularly share videos and photos on the site that featured shenanegans in the dickhouse offices, interviews, skits, bits, behind the scenes and specials. The majority of content from the website is lost media, though we do have a number of the lost videos available on the server (not all), which includes the jackass road trip also mentioned in this iceberg, minus part 12 which was corrupted.
Bam's World Domination was supposed to be a multi-part series of Bam going around the world doing random shit, however after one episode it got dropped and they came out and said it would only be a one-episode special. It featured Bam, Ryan & Tim O'Connor travelling to England and partaking in the Tough Man Challenge obstacle course. (Yes, it's on the server.)
23 Hr takeover refers to the special takeover of MTV studios by the Cast and Crew in 2007. It was a 24-hour livestreamed event that started off pretty great and then devolved into chaos. Ryan was notably missing because he was still dealing with his Bloot clot & Lyme Disease, and Steve-O got kicked out of the studio for being too fucked up. The takeover was when people realised how bad Steve was. (We have 19 hours of the takeover & the best bits special on the server.)
Dunn's Lyme Disease refers to the diagnosis he recieved when he was being seen about his blood clot he got from filming the ending of Number 2.
Gnarkill was a CKY-esque comedy band featuring Dico & Bam. (Yes we have their full discography available)
OG Lambo tooth pull, refers to the original take of the stunt which originally featured Don Vito getting his tooth pulled. It was initially filmed for Number Two, however due to Vito's legal issues and subsequent ban from being on TV, the whole bit got pulled and never used. Bits of it have been seen before, notably the actual moment the tooth is pulled but the full skit is still lost.
Jackass backyard BBQ was a special from 2002 where the entire cast and crew got together to have a BBQ and a party. AFAIK it was originally on Jackassworld.com (Yes, it's on the server.)
I'm not sure why Steve-O out on bail is so far down the list, because it's one of Steve's mainstream videos. The 3rd in the Don't Try This At Home series. Steve filmed this while he was out on bail for drug smuggling if I remember correctly. He then got re-arrested during filming of it. (Yes, that and all the other old Steve-O movies are on the server.)
Jackass: Too Hot for MTV was never actually supposed to be released. It was leaked by a production member on dailymotion and features never-before-seen moments filmed for the show that they couldn't air, like the convict, the gun part of the self defense test, the original vomelette, the body in a dumpster, etc. Definitely a must-watch if you've never seen it. The quality is poor because it's a VHS rip. (Yes, it's on the server.)
Idk why the lost tapes are in here twice, nor do I know why they're below too hot for TV because it's much more known-about and also technically mainstream. It's basically too hot for MTV, but the approved released version.
PurpleStickey is the name of a band Rake is a member of.
Don Vito's Crimes refers to multiple legal issues Vito had pertaining to inappropriate touching, groping and underage molestation. This led to him being banned from portraying the Don Vito character on TV, meaning all bits they filmed with him for Jackass Number two (which was actually a lot) had to get cut and have never been seen. The limitation for him appearing in media is long past.
Darf is referring to Dave's drunk alter ego.
Tier 4:
Loomis Fall's music. Simply refers to Loomis's music, it's not well known and he's not really known as a muscian, but he has a couple albums out. (Yes, they're on the server.)
Novak's House refers to Novak's rehabilitation centre and journey.
Laskian Striggoi is Bam's made-up language he began creating at the beginning of his mental health collapse. He still regularly uses it.
Dave's one testicle, refers to... dave's one testicle. He lost it during a snowboarding accident, I'm not sure what year exactly.
Stephanie Hodge's Injury is referencing when she shattered her spine and pelvis doing a stunt with the cast where they were going down a large hill on random objects. She stated that she understood it was just an accident that couldn't be avoided and she said it helped her better her friendships with the guys, eventually getting better and starring in the movie with them.
Fuckface Unstoppable was Bam's attempt at a Gnarkill ripoff, but it never hit like it was meant to. Bam and FFU toured for a number of years and then after drama with Alex flamsteed, they stopped, their tours were batshit crazy filled with drugs, alcohol, novak dancing around stage naked, Nikki getting her tits out and Bam screaming drunk into the mic. (yes, we have their discography on the server.)
DiCamillo sisters, essentially was like Gnarkill but focused on a more pop sound. Featured Dico, Bam, Jimmy Pop, Raab & Rake. Mostly known for their song "why's it so cold?", I think that's really the only song they did. Oh, and Santa's coming, but that one was branded as a CKY song which I'm not sure why.
Wax.... a little too broad, I have no idea what this is about.
Jackass presents tribute to evel knevel was actually a Nitro Circus special which featured Johnny & Steve-O and was created by Jeff and the crew behind Jackass. Johnny ended up breaking his pelvis during a jump. (Yes, it's on the server.)
Jackass: The Beginning is a documentary about how Jackass started and the lead up to the first movie. It was featured on the bonus features of jackass 3. (Yes, it's on the server.)
KatieMarie88 references a youtube channel which used to host most, if not all, of the Jackassworld videos. A lot of them have disappeared and the channel isn't active anymore.
Bam's IG rants. Self explanatory, during his moments of mania/bad mental health, Bam goes on social media rants about his friends and family, talking bad about them and just being manic.
Jackassworld Roadtrip 2009 was a Jackassworld.com special that aired in 12 parts, it followed the Jackass cast on a roadtrip and visiting Steve-O in his rehab facility etc. (11 parts are on the server, part 12 is lost media.)
Scrad and Charlie refers to the characters Johnny played in Men in Black II.
Jenn Rivell ebay, I'm not sure about this one. Didn't know she ever had one, I only ever knew about Jess's ebay.
Tier 5:
Bam's Sex Tape, self explanatory. It was a sex tape with Jenn. Loud ass music, quality camera garbage and it was only around 1.5 minutes long. Used to be on pornhub but idk where you could find it now.
Steve-O's ghost story I think refers to the ghost story he told on H3's podcast, I'm not sure.
Jackass Totem Pole skit. This one.. ah. I wish we'd left this one out. It's referencing the blatantly racist Jackass skit in S3E9, where Preston, Jason and Steve don blackface with totem masks and the cast and crew threw things at them. We don't talk about the totem pole skit.
The Note (bar) was a local in WC which Bam and his friends regularly attended. It closed down in 2014.
Greg Wolfie Brozillian refers to a deleted scene from the 3rd movie where Wolfie gets a brazillian wax.
Dave on reddit, I'm not sure what this is specifically referring to.
Amanda Lanise Vadis Myres is the name of a woman who aggressively stalked Bam between 2011 - 2013. She was known as the "florida stalker" and she was caught inside his house masturbating over his bed where he was sleeping, he called the cops on her and she got arrested.
MTV Random Hero show was supposed to be a show featured around Ryan, who would seek out the next "Random hero" from contestants who partook in stunts and whatnot. It was never picked up, the most we got was a promo. (Which is available on the server.)
Extended Playgirl Pontius refers to the whole Playgirl pontius bit that was never aired due to the nudity.
OG Butt Chug refers to a never released bit from the original show, where Steve shot gun a beer through a tube in his nose, Knoxville said it was lame so he should shove it up his ass. He did, the footage never got released and they re-did it for the movie.
Zachary Hartwell was the passenger in Ryan Dunn's car during his 2011 car crash. Both of them were killed in the crash. He was a known friend to the Jackass cast and the CKY crew. Most of the reports about Dunn's death never mentioned Zachary.
Angelfire fan websites. Self explanatory. Basically tumblr blogs from back in the day before Tumblr.
Dreamseller, Novak's book title and documentary name. Tells the story of Novak's life through addiction, etc. (All available on the server, includes audiobooks.)
Ryan Dunn Haunted Car Parts is in reference to an ebay listing after Dunn's crash, people were selling parts of the wreck.
Tier 6:
Fanfiction, self explanatory.
FantASStic Whores 4 featured Bam and Novak and was essentially a porn movie where Bam had sex with Gina Lynn.
Barvarian Dumbasses Death refers to the death of a 20 y/o german man who was attempting to recreate a Jackass stunt for his amatuer Jackass social media pages with multiple of his friends.
Chris & Loomis on Rodge & Podge, self explanatory, they were featured on the show. (Not on the server.)
The career ending footage of steve-O is a bonus movie on the Don't try this at home first video. It features Steve masturbating and repeatedly cumming on his production manager's phone and keyboard in his office.
Cunt: the movie, idk about this one.
Ryan's last photo references the photo of Ryan and Zachary at the bar right before they left and got into the deadly car crash.
Stevie Lee was featured in Jackass 3, he died of a heart attack in 2020.
Steve-O's overdose is in reference to Steve's drug addiction climax before his intervention.
Bam's Bulimia, not a very well known fact about Bam but he's had bulimia since the early days. It's very briefly mentioned by Ry in some sort of special, but I can't place which one.
Desert Blues has no reason to be at the very bottom of the list, but regardless, this was a soft-porn movie featuring Johnny before he ever featured on TV or in Big Brother.
So basically, everything that is media on this list with the exception of the things I don't know about or the things I've specifically mentioned are lost media is available on the discord server.

Hi, Gina. Can I please rant in your asks? I might be a complete idiot, but the more i look on the timeline (literal timeline, not a social media one) the more i come to one conclusion.
So Syco dies in 2020. Louis greets us with «decided to part ways» tweet, but the parting ways is useless, company is already dead. All the rights go to (presumably) Sony. Sony doesn’t give a fuck about Louis. He’s not profitable. I mean in our little community he’s the center of the world, but in the real world not so much.
But what they do care about is Harry. Harry is their golden goose for now and for many more years to come. The more Louis flaunts with huge «H» on his chest and changes the Spotify canvas to Harry’s tattoos, the more people might believe that Larry Stylinson rumours (gasp!) might be true.
The company that holds the rights can prohibit all recording and publishing activity altogether. We’ve seen it with JoJo. We’ve seen it with Kesha. We’ve seen it with Raye. And probably with hundreds more, that we know nothing about (like what happened to Alexis Jordan?). So Louis is given a simple choice: he shuts down all the rumours by himself or Walls will be his last album.
So that’s when OATV production and the Big Freddy Push begins.
We all screaming that everything he did in the last two years doesn’t make sense. But it’s because it simply doesn’t. We’ve been watching this guy for the ten years prior. And there’s no fucking way in hell i’m gonna believe that one nice Wednesday morning in the beginning of 2021 Louis Tomlinson woke up, yawned and said: «Well, why don’t I start mentioning my fake son everywhere, because that’s the kind a person i am now.»
If he’s doing it, he’s either gaining something big from it, or at least not losing something big from it. And what is bigger than the simple opportunity to make music?
And if the question is why his promo so shit and what audience he’s targeting, then the answer is - he’s not promoting his music, he’s promoting the fact that Harry Styles is not, in fact, gay.
I hope it does make sense. And also I love you, Gina. Thank you for being the voice of reason in this fandom. (And sorry for my English, I did my best 😖)
Hi darling. Your English is absolutely fine. No apologies needed!
As for your thoughts… I do think there’s some plausibility in your theories. Although, Louis isn’t the main reason people think H is queer. He’s doing a pretty good job of making people question it, all on his own. TBH, most of his new fans probably have never heard of Louis unless they already are wondering about Harry’s sexuality go search through Google and stumble on Larry. And even then they would have to already be open to it to really fall down the rabbit hole to get past all the denials and beards and the idea that larries are crazy.
I’m not saying Sony wouldn’t go to those lengths, but it seems like blowing out a candle when there’s a brush fire around the corner.
Anyway, I don’t think Louis would have been allowed to part ways with Syco/Sony without them getting something out of it. God knows what deal he made, but I’m sure Sony is more ruthless than we can imagine.

CBS will be using the Super Bowl on Sunday to promote its entire lineup of returning series which will roll out during the premiere week that will follow the sporting event. Two of them, comedy Ghosts and drama Fire Country, are getting special promos created specifically for the Big Game.
The Ghosts spot features Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), Sam (Rose McIver) and their house ghosts during a running commentary while sitting on the couch watching the Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg movie Ghost.
The Fire Country promo, designed to run during half-time features co-creator, executive producer and star Max Thieriot delivering a speech akin to an inspiring coach half-time pep talk from a movie or TV series.
“Both are really high performing shows, and we think there is still a lot of opportunity to grow the audience for both,” Mike Benson, CBS’ President and Chief Marketing Officer, said about the choice of Ghosts and Fire Country for custom Super Bowl spots.
Ghosts and Fire Country both ranked as the most watched new series of the seasons they premiered in, 2021-22 and 2022-23, respectively, and have remained strong ratings performers for the network.
On Ghosts, “we have been leaning into the bigger idea about believing in ghosts in the supernatural sense but also in Ghosts the show, going for a double entendre and connecting the two things,” Benson said.
The Ghosts-Ghost mash-up came out of the idea to make the spot feel like a scene from the show. On the series, Jay & Sam and especially the ghosts, regularly watch TV and comment on it.
That’s what the gang is doing here as they banter about what would happen if Jay were a ghost, with the conversation referencing the Super Bowl, electoral college and a penny joke comedian Goldberg could’ve said in the movie while Asher recreates the moving penny trick performed by Swayze’s character in the film.
CBS’ marketing department developed the skit with Ghosts executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman who wrote the dialogue to get the voices of the characters right.
A 30-second version of the spot will air during the Super Bowl. You can watch below the full 1:07-minute version, which will be available online. The WeBelieveInGhosts.com site the ad sends viewers to was created for the occasion with the idea “to create a community of believers in a fun, comedic way.”
youtube
CBS marketing execs also worked with the Fire Country creative team on their spot whose premise came about after Benson and his group saw that there was a lengthy promo spot available during half-time.
Taking inspiration from great sports movies or TV series, Benson said his team asked, “what if we take the sense of pep talk and bring it to Fire Country.”
“We try to think, as people are watching the game, where they are in the game to be contextual with the specific place for the promos to stand out more effectively.”

Jennifer Kelly’s 2023 in Review: Still Human FWIW
Tumblr media
I finally saw Sun Ra Arkestra
I first heard about Chat GPT in January this year, and it sounded bad from the start. I make most of my living writing things for big faceless corporations who view me as a cost. Cut that cost to zero and I’m out of a job. But for the first five months of 2024, I continued to be busy and I thought, well maybe it’s nothing. Then in May, like a light switch, everything stopped. I had one regular client who continued to pay a monthly retainer. Nothing else. And the usual mailings, pleadings with old clients, etc. had no effect. I’m close to retirement age. This summer, I thought I had arrived early.
Things have picked up since then, and right now, I’m in a good place. People are starting to notice Chat GPT’s ignorance of anything post 2021, its refusal to factcheck or footnote and its relentless blandness. Clients are coming back, but the floor doesn’t feel very solid under my feet. It could all go away at any time. (This is the lesson we all learned from COVID-19…that you could fall into the pit any time.)
The one thing that didn’t stop was Dusted, and for that I am very grateful. As I’ll explain to anyone who asks, there’s never been any money in Dusted, so there can’t be any less. We are more or less immune to economic pressures. And as long as we’re here, there is lots and lots of good music to write about.
My year started with two records that blew me away in January (and maybe December 2022) and held #1 and #2 slots all year. They were Meg Baird’s Furling and Robert Forster’s the Candle and the Flame. Next, came an email from Rob from Sunburned with a link to Stella Kola’s extraordinary debut, and then gosh, Sub Pop still sends me promos and here’s one from Mudhoney! Every time 2024 succeeded in getting me down, I’d get music from someone.
Live music was another solace. Shows that made me happy this year included Warp Trio, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Dear Nora, Vieux Farka Toure, Bridget St. John with Stella Kola, Sun Ra Arkestra, Kid Millions with Sarah Bernstein, Faun Fables, Sweeping Promises, Daniel Higgs, Constant Smiles, Baba Commandant (RIP), Xylouris White, Joseph Allred with Ruth Garbus and Ryan Davis with his Roadhouse band. Special mention goes to the always astonishing Thing in the Spring with Editrix, Rough Francis, Thus Love, Gorilla Toss, Equipment Pointed Ankh. Susan Alcorn, Marisa Anderson and Jim White and Bill Callahan.
Tumblr media
The best show of the year, however, came late in the summer with William Tyler and the Impossible Truth band, an unbelievably talented, seasoned crew with Luke Schneider on pedal steel, Third Man mainstay Jack Lawrence on bass and Brian Kotzgur on drums. The way they opened up and fired up Tyler’s songs was a revelation, even to someone, like me, who’s been a fan since Behold the Spirit. Garcia Peoples opened, and they were great, too.
I should mention that we have recently been blessed with a bunch of excellent music venues nearby—Nova Arts in Keene and Epsilon Spires and the Stone Church in Brattleboro. Going to music used to always mean driving back from at least Northampton, sometimes further, late at night, and, as I get older and my night vision fades, it has been really nice not to have to do that. (Also, to all my Dusted-reader-musician-friends, if you play one of these venues, thank you, and let me know when you’re coming.)
With that, it’s time to talk about 2023 favorites. I’ll write about the first ten and then just list the rest.
Meg Baird — Furling (Drag City)
Meg Baird’s gorgeous solo album alternates between ghostly, inward-looking piano songs and bright swirls of 1960s psychedelia. Her extraordinary voice, high, pure, and unearthly, joins lush, burnished guitar grooves. Sometimes I think I like the swaggering bounce of “Will You Follow Me Home,” the best, but other times, the disembodied otherness of “Ashes, Ashes” is the prettiest thing I know.
Robert Forster — The Candle and the Flame (Tapete)
Forster’s solo records are always good, wry and funny and stuttering with strummy punk energy, but this one, recorded with family while his wife battled cancer, is his best yet. “She’s a Fighter,” a group sing-along is prickly and defiant, the only song specifically written about Karin’s illness, but threads of enduring, life-long love run all through this album. “Tender Years” is especially moving, as Forster sings, “I’m in a story with her, I know I can’t live without her, I can’t imagine why,” in a voice cracked with sincerity and feeling. Very few albums make me cry, but this one does.
Anohni and the Johnsons—My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross (Secretly Canadian)
The sound on Anohni’s fifth album with the Johnsons smolders in the pocket, its textures a nod to Marvin Gaye’s classic What’s Going On? It’s velvety smooth but taut with urgency, as the artist contemplates climate disaster and personal struggles. “It Must Change,” trills with the coolest falsetto, while “Sliver of Ice” reverberates with a low, hushed passion. Every song lands a punch, soft when it happens but ringing for days in your ears.
The Drin — Today My Friend You Drunk the Venom (Feel It)
“Venom” lurches and blurts, bass thumping, drums clashing, monotone vocals drenched in menace. It’s a punk song distilled to essence, a world in itself, a short, brutal blast that is also somehow psychedelically expansive. The Fall, the Swell Maps and Adrian Sherwood haunt this disc in various places, but the Drin is its own mysterious thing.
Wreckless Eric — Leisureland (Tapete)
“Get yourself a one-way ticket for the merry-go-round,” sings the Bard of Hull on the last and most exhilarating song from his ninth full-length. That’s “Drag Time,” with its indelible hook, its enveloping harmonies, its hint of Amy Rigby in the chorus. Let’s just go way out on a limb here and say it’s as good, maybe better, than “Whole Wide World.”
En Attendant Ana — Principia (Trouble in Mind)
Good lord, was Trouble in Mind on a roll this year or what? I could put Melanas or Tubs here, with FACS not far behind, but instead, let us contemplate the light-and-dark wonder of “Black Morning,” with its giddy counterpoints, its bright, sustaining trumpet, its boppy beat and its underpinning, somehow, of shadowy melancholy. Or the skanky bass that kicks off “Same Old Story,” in a prickly way, the lone element of dissonance that gives a daydream teeth.
Stella Kola—S-T (Self-Release)
Everybody who’s anybody in W. Mass alt.folk does a turn on this magical LP—centered around Beverly Ketch and Rob Thomas but including PG Six, Wednesday Knudson, Jeremy Pisani, Willy Lane and Jen Gelineau. Despite the expansiveness of the ensemble, these songs are feather light and lucid, like Pentangle sprinkled with magic dust.
Mudhoney — Plastic Eternity (Sub Pop)
Psychedelic overload meets raw punk and potty humor in this 12th album from the grunge godfathers. I like the sheer rush and swirl of cuts like “Almost Everything” and “Souvenir of my Trip” best, but bare, belligerent “Flush the Fascists” is grade-A too, and how can anyone resist Mark Arm paying tribute to his best bud on “Little Dogs.”
Beirut — Hadsel (Pompeii)
youtube
Hadsel is surprisingly cheery for an album recorded on a remote Norwegian island in the dead of winter, with swoony harmonies and counterpoints, intricate synthesized beats and blares of an antique pipe organ. “We had so many plans,” Zach Condon sings, both mourning and subtly sending up his cohort’s response to the COVID pandemic, but this remarkably pretty album seems more like a happy accident.
The Feelies—Some Kinda Love (Bar None)
What a total pleasure it is when one jangly, drone-y, indie rock phenomenon pays tribute to the wellspring. In this case, it’s the Feelies covering many of the Velvet Underground’s best known songs at a live show in 2018 where everyone had a blast. Now you can, too.
More albums that I loved in the order that I thought of them.
Iron & Wine—Who Can See Forever Soundtrack (Sub Pop)
Melanas—Ahora (Trouble in Mind)
Sleaford Mods — UK Grim (Domino)
The Tubs — Dead Meat (Trouble in Mind)
Sky Furrows—Reflect and Oppose (Feeding Tube/Cardinal Fuzz)
Lonnie Holley — Oh Me Oh My (Jagjaguwar)
Yo La Tengo—This Stupid World (Matador)
The Toads—In the Wilderness (Upset the Rhythm)
Dan Melchior—Welcome to Redacted City (Midnight Cruiser)
James and the Giants—S-T (Kill Rock Stars)
Ben Chasny and Rick Tomlinson—Waves (VOIX)
Bonnie Prince Billy—Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You (Drag City)
CLASS—If You’ve Got Nothing (Feel It)
The Clientele—I’m Not There Anymore (Merge)
Devendra Banhart—Flying Wig (Mexican Summer)
Kristin Hersh—Clear Pond Road (FIRE)
Sally Anne Morgan—Carrying (Thrill Jockey)
FACS—Still Life in Decay (Trouble in Mind)
Setting—Shone a Rainbow Light On (Paradise of Bachelors)
Airto Moreira & Flora Purim—A Celebration (BBE)
Sweeping Promises—Good Living Is Coming For You (Feel It)
James Waudby—On the Ballast Miles (East Riding Acoustic)
Emergency Group—Venal Twin (Centripetal Force)
Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band—Sing Dancing on the Edge (Sophomore Lounge)
Tyvek—Overground (Gingko)
Wurld Series—The Giant’s Lawn (Melted Ice Cream)
Various Artists—STOP MVP (War Hen)

Unfairly Maligned Games, Vol. 1
Games I loved that got low scores, review bombed, or have some other weird negative stigma attached to them that I think is unfairly earned.
NOTE: I don't believe in giving games a number score or a letter grade. Maybe I'm just bad at criticism or very easy to please, whatever.
Tumblr media
Battleborn [2016]
One of my personal favorite games of all time, Battleborn was advertised as a hero-based PVP shooter with MOBA mechanics that unfortunately came out right alongside one of the biggest games of the PVP shooter genre ever released (Overwatch). Thanks to this poor timing, Battleborn - along with several other similar but different games - was doomed to failure, choked to death by Blizzard's infinite marketing resources and predatory Free Play Weekends that just mysteriously happened to occur on the same weekends as its "competitors" major updates, DLC releases, promo events, etc. Battleborn is no longer available to play ANYWHERE as of January 2021; so few people played it after it was review bombed as "the game your mom bought you when you asked for Ovewatch for xmas" (yes Blizz fans used that fucking Simpsons meme TO DEATH, it's their one joke they have about Battleborn) that the game's servers had to be shuttered so the money could be funneled into Gearbox's much bigger cash cow release at the time, Borderlands 3.
Tumblr media
Sour grapes aside, Battleborn was in many ways the game that many people actually wish Overwatch was now. In addition to the PVP game, Battleborn had a co-op campaign mode - complete with a story, cutscenes, and unique character dialogue depending on who you brought to each mission - which could be played for character XP (ability tree unlocks), random gear loot (for use in either campaign mode or PVP), and character cosmetics. The 30 playable characters were wildly varied in terms of design and gameplay, and yes I have to point it out every time, Battleborn had both "cute tiny animal in a mech suit" and playable black women BEFORE Overwatch did. The game also featured a very impressive and highly slept-on visual aesthetic that felt like every Saturday Morning Cartoon I ever grew up with from the 80s/90s, featuring a wild blend of 3D and 2D animation that all the other hero PVP games WISH they could have matched.
Tumblr media
And damn, dude. If you like Lore in your video games, there was a TON of material written for this one. And I'm not just talking about supplemental media like a comic or a wiki or an interview about cut content or whatever. I mean there was a metric FUCK TON of additional world-building material right there in the game. Each character came with a set of challenges you could complete which would give you the usual XP and money, but also unlocked a fun little tidbit of Lore about the universe. These came in the form of short stories, recorded conversations, email logs, forum posts, shipping manifests, and even fully voiced segments explaining details about each character, who they were, why they were fighting this war, and some fun little ways of explaining how their weapons or abilities worked. For example, Reyna holds her laser pistol on its side, gangster-style, because she wanted to use a very specific gun model, had its internal parts stripped out so she could use an ammo clip of a much stronger caliber than that model was supposed to be capable of, but in order for the chamber to reload correctly, the gun had to sit a bit cockeyed. And that fun little nugget is just sitting there, right in the game, for you to discover! It's fucking cool as hell!
Tumblr media
Now I know you're itching to make a joke about there only being like 15 people who even played the game. Yes, I've seen the Active Player Steam charts meme. It's true, Battleborn had a very small, but also very dedicated, community. Despite that, there were so few people playing that we all ended up making friends with each other pretty quickly. It was one of the friendliest PVP communities I'd ever been a part of. We knew there weren't many people online, so we created an environment that felt comfortable for players new and veteran alike. Many of us are still friends today, outside of the game. Because there were so few people online, we also got to play regularly with Gearbox devs and game writers, and even one of the voice actors responsible for at least three of the game's characters (plus a few NPCs!). We organized and hosted our own events, got official backing from the devs for Double XP weekends, held art jams and hashtag celebrations. Hell, I even used my love of this game to jumpstart my serious foray into music by making an entire album of songs for its characters (complete with a bunch of commissioned fan art from the community)!
Tumblr media
(art by Leaddybum)
So yeah. Rest in peace, Battleborn. You were ahead of your time and the hate and harassment you got from The Gamers was completely undeserved. I will always keep hope alive that you'll come back to us some day. Maybe as a sequel, maybe in a new format. There was so much more left to explore in that universe.
Tumblr media
May our battle never end.

So, they’ve done it again.
Fusebox doing a mass firing? That’s so 2021 - be original now. But to fire the community team? That’s mad. And we should all be mad af.
The community team launched the official discord server , they run the socials and promo the episodes each week. Okay, I have my own personal issues with them but all that aside, they promised this new server would be a way for feedback to get directly to the game developers in a much better way and our voices actually be heard.
Twitter posts from former employees gives us a scary timeline. We can see they started around May 2022 and got made redundant end of October 2022. Not even 6 months. We can only speculate at the moment why this is but I have a couple of theories:
1. Fusebox is financially struggling. I guessed this with the major gem increases we’ve been seeing. Just makes sense. Then to make most of a team redundant? A team you only just really invested in? Guess they say Last Ones In, First Ones Out.
2. Socials are platforms where people can vent their frustrations and thoughts about the current season. Needless to say, the comments this season are not exactly nice. So in managements eyes are the community team not doing their job of getting people hyped for episodes and singing their praises? But tbh, this shouldn’t be blamed on the community team. It’s hard to promote shit but tbh they do try, I’ll give them that.
Could be a combination of the two. Community team’s not getting people to spend their hard-earned gems. The discords dead, the Instagram is a mess and don’t even get me started on the subreddit.
But what can we take from this? Their promises of “we’re listening and passing on feedback!” Are you? Okay, if you were, you’re not now, so who is??
I asked in the official discord and my comment got deleted soooo… we LOVE being silenced.
These problems all come from the top. Simple research into employee welfare tells you management is shite. And this further cements it.
If you were debating on whether to mod your app or not, just do it. I can help you, just send me an ask. iPhone users, we’ve also figured out how to do it.

What are your thoughts on bullet club war dogs as a whole and what are your thoughts on each of the members?
What a nice treat in my inbox, thank you for allowing me to subject you to my insanity about this group of people. My thoughts are that I love them, and let me tell you why.
Preemptively inserting a cut, because I'm sure this is gonna be long.
*Morgan Freeman voice*: It is.
I assume you know this, so I don't mean to mansplain, but it's crucial to my point to reiterate that the original intent of Bullet Club as founded by Prince Devitt was to be a stable of despicable gaijin (or foreign) wrestlers. Which makes total sense as a concept, especially in NJPW. Japan is not the cultural melting pot that North America or the UK is―if you're not Japanese, you stick out. So it makes perfect sense that the foreign wrestlers would gravitate toward each other and band together in that locker room as strangers in a strange land, so to speak.
However, to me, it hadn't felt like that's what Bullet Club was in a long time. Ever since The Elite left NJPW and during the bulk of Jay White's tenure as leader, basically (and he is the longest tenured leader!). At some point under Jay's leadership, BC became less about being a group of foreign menaces and more about just being a group of menaces. And a group of menaces who didn't really have each other's backs, to boot? There was so much in-fighting and it got so old.
But David Finlay and the War Dogs―in my admittedly completely biased opinion―have brought BC back to its original intent. They're a group of young, hungry, foreign guys who came almost entirely out of NJPW's American arm in Strong. And they're obsessed with each other. You can tell from social media and their backstage comments and in-ring promos that they're a cohesive unit who have each other's backs.
Outside of the War Dogs, though... BC is still a hot fucking mess. I'm highkey annoyed that Jay is just being allowed to get away with BC Gold in AEW, and I want nothing more than for Finlay to finally cut House of Torture loose (and hopefully there will be movement on that with him and EVIL being in the same G1 block). I do, however, think Ace and Bey should be brought into the War Dogs; they would fit right in (and I love Chris Bey). As for the BC subgroup in NJPW Tamashii, while I know absolutely nothing about them it does make sense that NJPW would want an iteration of their most-known faction in their Australian arm. And plus Bad Luck Fale is heading it up and he's an original member, so. Pass.
Okay, so now that I've told you my thoughts on the War Dogs as a group, lets get into each of them individually.
David Finlay
I mean, he's blorbo prime. My special (not really) little guy. He just scratches a very satisfying itch in my brain, and it actually started for me back when Kenny Omega took the AEW World Championship over to Impact to become the Belt Collector. Because when Kenny did that, I―like many others―tuned into Impact for the first time in actual decades, and when FinJuice started feuding with The Good Brothers for the Impact World Tag Titles, I just knew I'd vibe with Finlay, you know? Like I said, he scratched an itch. (Also, I should say here that I didn't start regularly watching NJPW until like... mid-2021, so my exposure to Finlay up until watching Impact was essentially that I knew he was a person who existed.) And then Finlay came back to Japan for the first time in over a year to compete in last year's G1 post-split from Juice, and he was a bit more aggressive with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, and the feeling of "yeah, that's my guy," only grew. And then he walked out with Gedo in Bullet Club gear for the New Japan Cup and I was just a goner. Plus his dad is Fit Finlay who I love simply for everything he's done to help elevate women's wrestling. Like, love and respect, Steph, but you didn't start the women's revolution―Fit did when he started treating WWE's women like wrestlers and not just eye candy 💅🏻
Oh, and I will die on this hill: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, will Tony Khan or someone in fucking AEW acknowledge all the history between Finlay and both Juice and Jay and give us the fucking War Dogs-BC Gold feud we deserve????
Okay, moving on.
Clark Connors
Okay, so. If Finlay scratches a satisfying itch in my brain, Clark scratches a hedonistic one, and that's just it. Seriously―when he first joined BC, he had me acting and thinking weird. He's despicable and cocky and he likes to drink and smoke and fight and I am simply helpless against his dirtbag rhinestone outlaw swag. Plus, he's just a good hard-hitting wrestler. There's a moment in his match against Kevin Knight from this year's BOSJ where he did this crazy sort of spear-spinebuster combo that lives absolutely rent free in my brain. OH. And his theme song is a fucking banger.
Dan "Drilla" Moloney
To be perfectly transparent, even though he was great in this year's BOSJ, I didn't pay much attention to Drilla until he joined BC and linked up with Clark, and I don't know that I like him so much as I just like him and Clark together? That's not to say I don't like Drilla on his own, because I do―he's mouthy and entertaining as fuck and just does not give a fuck. At all. But him and Clark together are just *chef's kiss* to me. Although, I am very much looking forward to Drilla's impending match and feud with Will Ospreay.
Alex Coughlin
This might come as a surprise, but... Alex is lowkey my second favorite after Finlay (sorry, Clark 🫣). And it’s for the same reason that I gravitated toward Finlay in the first place: I just know I'd vibe with him based off the things he posts on IG. I also like that he brings a completely different dynamic to the group in the sense that he's not loud or outwardly cocky and doesn't run his mouth like the rest of them do. He just stares into your soul and picks things up and throws them. And I just think he's neat. I hope he does well in the G1 and I will be sad if he doesn't.
Gabe Kidd
So as of right now, I have the least feel for Gabe out of all the War Dogs, and my thoughts on him are similar to Drilla in that it's not so much him as it is him and Alex together for me. The two of them are a completely different flavor of swag from Drilla and Clark, and I absolutely love that. I love that the War Dogs are a well-rounded unit with both a junior tag team and a heavyweight tag team who each bring something unique and dynamic to the table. That being said, Gabe is quickly growing on me, and I'm sure I'll have more to say about him during and after the G1.
And Jesus H. Christ, I just wrote you a novel. I hope it answers your question? 😂
Seriously though, thank you for asking me this, and now everyone who bothers to read this knows how extensive my brainrot for the War Dogs is. They're my special guys and I adore them.

what we know about paw patrol the mighty movie
(will always update, so if you want to reblog, it's best to do it after september 29)
Tumblr media
hi everyone, finally, i made an ICYMI article for this film! i also made a playlist of all the trailers, promos, featurettes, etc., it's all right here.
and as always, no major spoilers.
- it was announced in october 2021 that there would be a second film
- the premiere date in the us moved from october 13 to september 29. it's also the premiere date for canada
- the movie will focus on skye
- first cast member anounced - taraji p. henson
- kim k revealed that she'll return as delores
- january 27: voice cast announced!
we have eight ryders! finn lee-epp will be ryder in the film
i predicted that justin paul kelly will be voicing chase in the film TWICE, but it never happened. i was wishing for him to shine as chase. well anyway, i'm sure christian convery will do great
christian corrao did well in all paws on deck, so yeah, confirmed that he's marshall
crying because it's not lilly bartlam as skye. clues are showing that it's mckenna grace. at first i was worried because i've heard her normal voice before. but because of spirit untamed, i'm sure she'll do great
callum shoniker returns as rocky
i knew luxton handspiker will be voicing rubble. he did well in rubble and crew
nylan parthipan as zuma? interesting...
- liberty with superpowers 😮 some sources say she has the power of elasticity, kinda like elastigirl from the incredibles. but we'll see
- chris rock is voicing one of mayor humdinger's cats
- for the other celebrity cast, we have kristen bell and james marsden as janet and hank who work in a junk yard, and serena williams as yoga yvette
- according to an article from the toy book magazine, the movie will explore chase and skye's "unique relationship". i'm a bit curious about this one... probably about their friendship? shippers, please don't
- the work-in-progress trailer was shown at cinemacon last april
- a giant mayor humdinger but better
- official promotions started with an ad on an airplane. let's take to the sky!
- their new hq is called aircraft carrier since the adventure city hq got destroyed by the meteor (source: trailer)
- the trailer was released june 12
- they have the junior patrollers: tot, nano, and mini, three little pomeranians that become part of the paw patrol, and they were trained by liberty
- the movie is rated pg due to mild action and peril. i have no problem with it. superhero films today are rated pg. it's surprising for some fans tho
- the main six pups have the same powers from the tv movie and subseries, but there are a few upgrades: marshall can create fireballs, rocky can be a magnet, zuma can turn into a puddle of water, and skye has super strength
- the detail on pups' power paws OMG? kinda looks like they leave some.fairy dust or smth
- we have 3 new songs for the movie!
down like that by bryson tiller was released september 8
bark to the beat by mckenna grace ft. blackbear was released september 15
learning to fly by christina aguilera was released september 22. the lyric video had some spoilers from the movie, the director warned us about this one.

- unboxing movie merch! so far, only nylan (zuma) posted about this one.
- last september 23, team canada cast went on an advance private screening of the movie
- last september 24, paramount pictures had set a guinness world record of "most dogs attending a film screening" in los angeles. 219 dogs came to watch the film
- so far, only finn lee-epp (ryder) had several interviews about the movie. the team us cast appeared only on featurettes and interviews that were recorded a few months ago

I think that it supposed to some out in spring 2022 like we discussed already. They were literally preparing for that. Portugal articles in fall 2021, NEY trip, Vegas, him in Portugal. But then I think Disney play a role in this. They saw shit coming or have a head ups or something and ask them to delay. They couldn't had the main voice of their movie for kids being called pedo and groomer and worst. Lightyear didn't do good so imagine the dramat if he was with her and the her shit would come out to light sooner. That's why the rush, the tone of content they couldn't post before so now they have to to cover the time line. After Lightyear hit streaming on Disney plus and it's been there a few weeks they get a green light. So he did SMA to soft the blow and they wait to line it up with her show for promo. The only thing they could do before was follows and crumbles throwing by Justin, her and Chris himself. I do believe that Disney play a huge role in this. If not, it would be like with Ali and Seb. He would post something for her birthday in July she would do for his in June (some of the pics we saw from may probably). Then maybe a Christmas post, Halloween, NYE and now V day or it would be over by now. The official article of them together would come out in February 2022 on V day or in March or something when he was filming 'romantic movie' Ghosted so it shows how of the romantic he is. Maybe some flowers for his endless love. Then maybe some papa walk in NYC 🤣 on his break or in May and them released the matching pics for his birthday or international dog day. It was all supposed to happened though the 2022 and it didn't! The ton of content and the push it's very telling.
Sorry for a long post 😂 It just come to so I share ☺️
Just my two cents, I think it isn't postponed, it was planned for November. The postponed WN season 2 was definitely not planned and didn't help them. But I think what we see now is a team who tries very hard to sell a one year (a whole year!) relationship. And here is why I think that. If they went official beginning of 2022, everyone would be focused on them. The problem with this is he was busy filming and they didn't live a happy couple life. It's very hard to sell this narrative of endless love when he didn't have much time and they didn't really see each other. However, now they have more control about this narrative. They present us a bunch of pics & videos, so it looks like she was with him the whole year (spoiler: she wasn't). I hope you know what I mean. Because it's easier to "prove" the past that the GP can't check than creating new sightings/pap pics etc. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Camila released an album this year and doesn't perform anywhere and is not nominated for anything even with Bam Bam having good numbers, why? if it wasn't for the voice no one would know she exists
The quick answer is: Ask Epic!!!
The fact Epic promoted Familia more, BEFORE the album was released, than when it was actually released, should tell us a lot.
Hell, they released the lead single, almost 10 months before the album was released. DGY was released in July of 2021. Bam Bam was released in March 2022. Familia was released April. Those were the only two songs Epic actually promoted, by sending to radio. Psychofreak was a promo single. It was never sent to radio.
Camila has promoted her album. Epic has done the bare minimum. Epic is the one that sends the songs/albums for consideration for awards. I'm sure they sent them in for consideration, but they clinched their ass cheeks, and refused to sweeten the pot, therefore not getting the actual nominations.
If they weren't going to unclinch their ass for actual nominations, they weren't going to do what was needed to get her any award show performance slots.
Camila, and her team, are promoting Camila. Her label is not. Her team got her The Voice gig. Her team got her the festival in Brazil. Her team got her the opening act for ColdPlay in south America. Her team has done more for her, than her label.
Epic was done with Familia, before it was even released. They fulfilled their contract obligation, by doing the bare minimum to promote it. They aren't spending much money to promote their artist, which tells me, she won't be their artist much longer.
Of course, I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me. We should be getting an answer, one way or the other, soon!!!

This 2021 SDCC panel is also one of the reasons I couldn't agree with some of the stuff tumblr posts last year had stated... which was mostly made up! ie "Stan didn't actually work on the show" or
Like you can see the joy emanating from their faces when Stan and the cast and other crew explain their parts in the show... I can't believe any of them would hate it, whether this was a promo video or not xD Like... you don't go to a SDCC panel of the show you made if you... absolutely hated working on it. idk, it just doesn't make sense. I get that seeing a show or characters from a fandom lens makes people hate that show/characters make stuff up about the show later (i.e. other fans hating on Yuichi Usagi, just as a concept, bc of the ship/shipping, I get it) but it just seems... so strangely petty. Plus non-shipping fans might have been mad that this was not a direct adaptation.... Again I get it! I've been there with other stuff. But whether a show is good or bad, it seems mean-spirited to just lie about the crew or creators of it. It's okay to admit that you had different expectations about it. Yes, it's aimed at a younger viewership and does not directly adapt the darker aspects of the comic, but, that's wholly because of circumstance (Netflix show) and the show is good despite that. Your view of it can simply depend, well, on your view on spinoffs and animation in general, when you watched, what mood you were in. Whatever opinions fans might have, this panel seems to suggest the cast and crew had a mostly good time on it. Unless everyone here is some sort of pathological liar.

More press coverage of the Samurai Rabbit SDCC 2021 panel:
IGN, Polygon (a few pics), Animation Magazine, Geek Network, AIPTcomics (I'll add any more I find if I find smth new)
Screenrant (announcement of the Comic-Con @ home lineup) longer article on AWN (2022, about the premiere with more pics)
also, Stan's interview with the SDCC blog in 2022
"UBLOG: Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles debuted its first season on Netflix, and has already been renewed. What was it like finally getting to see your characters come to life in that way, and how pleased are you that it was so well received? Sakai: We at Usagi Studios are very pleased with Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles. The protagonist Yuichi is a direct descendant of my Miyamoto Usagi who is featured very prominently and with a twist that I thought was brilliant. We worked very closely with Gaumont and Netflix, approving/adjusting scripts, designs, suggesting voice actors, etc. I even calligraphed (by hand) the logo for the series. Samurai Rabbit expanded on a mini-series I created titled “Senso” inspired by HG Wells’ War of the Worlds wherein the martians invaded feudal Japan instead. Japan took that alien technology and developed it, adding their own cultural elements. Samurai Rabbit takes place in the future with Yuichi a young samurai in training who worships his famous (or infamous) ancestor, Usagi. Like my Usagi stories, Samurai Rabbit is very character driven and the first season tells of Yuichi meeting what is to become his core group of friends as they battle yokai, the haunts and monsters of Japanese folklore. I’m so glad that a second season is coming up."
i cannot imagine Stan Sakai Lying. like. LEGIT i cannot so i don't get why ppl make stuff up abt the show. it hasn't been very egregious so far, just stuff in tags and reblogs, but still. weird. fandom is weird abt stuff like this lol! I also do not get the hate that the show itself and the character of Yuichi Usagi get for basically. Not being what people imagined in their heads of an Usagi Yojimbo spinoff. I kind of get that part, because when Avatar: LOK was previewed in 2011, I imagined such a vast and colorful version of the show based on just 2 art pieces, I was caught a bit off-guard by the 1st season's premiere, and completely let down by the 2nd season. So I get that part at least. Many articles seemed to suggest that this show would be an adaptation, and I am guessing this is where people's expectations rose ten-fold in a similar way to my 2011 self. From interviews, I sense that the crew had similar expectations when they joined: a Usagi aniamted project with Stan Sakai directly involved! I'd be asking to be on the show too if I'd been a Gaumont studios member at the time.
The mountain is high and it is hard to surpass. When Netflix ordered the show to be about a younger Usagi and gear it for a younger audience too, I find that perhaps the Gaumont and Usagi Studios crew also saw this. In a fan's eyes, almost no one could match Stan Sakai in his storytelling, and the crew are big fans of his work. So it would make sense that they started to see the show they were developing differently. Instead of something like the 2003 adaptation of Miyamoto Usagi, where they make him younger and change his story a bit, the SR crew saw an opportunity. Lets make it about a descendant and a whole different setting, yeah? So the show becomes something quite different, but more manageable now. The mountain seems more like a long trek than an unpassable task.
But it also seems from every interview and official release I've seen that most of the people working on the show really liked what they made and liked working on it, even if it wasn't a direct adaptation of Usagi Yojimbo, something most of the crew were a fan of already themselves.
also, the series was worked on at least since 2018. Yeah, it's aimed at a younger audience, but a lot of effort seems to be put into it anyway, from writing, acting and art aspects all-around, so it just doesn't seem like something that people would feel the need to lie about. it's a good show. It is just not a direct adaptation of the comics, that people have been wanting, or something "style adjacent" to the comics, e.g. what people expect of the comics (that it's only dark and gritty).
A 2019 comicon.com article sharing a facebook photo at Gaumont studios with Stan is the perfect example of this - "This studio is known for their work on the original Redwall animated series. Judging by the key art shown above and Gaumont’s location in Paris, I hope that the animated series will remain faithful to the darker tone of the comics." - of course an article by a reader of the comic would have something like this, but we can see as early as this, the writer is setting themselves up for higher expectations for the series. Which I don't find fault in, who doesn't want a cool animated adaptation of their favourite comic? But comparing a studio now to what the studio was 15-20 years before is like setting the reader up for expectations that are too unrealistic. Redwall is a beautiful adaptation, but each show/series will almost always have a different team of people working on, so from an animation work POV, it just seems like something unrealistic. Animation industry, both western and otherwise, has always been something that can't always cater to all interests.
not-so-hot take but: it's actually good that it's not a direct adaptation!
The expectations people put on any adaptations/projects based on an older thing, is probably also a huge factor in why both younger and older fans (both shppers and the fans of the comic) feel so terse about the series, when in reality, it's possibly the best result we could get for a netflix adaptation (if I look at any anime/manga live-action adaptations for example, netflix has sort of "dropped the ball" on many of these). The series having loose and not-so-loose connections to the comics canon basically ensures that nothing about the comics canon is ever changed much, or that Stan is never obligated to change the comic for the show. The comic and show are allowed to be separate, but the show is also an homage and open fanart to the comic.
This also means that whether viewers hate or love the series, perhaps having a non-adaptation og series based on the comic... means they will actually read the comic itself now. I see this with both liveaction and animated adaptations, but ppl usually don't pick up the og source material based on just one adaptation, and if the adaptation is good or faithful, they still won't - thinking of TMNT 2003 but also Rise series haters who insist Raph doesn't use Tonfa, when that was a og comics reference lol - there's no trust that the animation folk working on your favourite properties adaptation are ALSO FANS of the same thing. So the chances for that might be similar. If people are happy with an adaptation, they might be less likely to seek out more of it. But I just find this series an interesting attempt from that POV. It almost feels similar to what Transmedia Storytelling is explained as a technique - of telling a story across multiple platforms, adding something unique each time.
A direct retelling is different from an original piece or continuation set in the same universe. Imagine that Usagi Yojimbo, the original comic, is like a tentpole that readers gather around. As time grows on, different animated adaptations occur, some tabletop games, a theather play etc. Different media for Usagi to inhabit as a character and a concept. And then comes along Samurai Rabbit, wholly not an adaptation of the comic's stories at all, but something inspired of it, building on it, not changing it much, but still adding to the canon in its own way (the existence of the Ki-Stone in this show). It's different but it's entirely a work made out of love for the comic, and you can see it in the different aspects it adapts from the comic (the 2D sequences, the skull-death-bubbles, the references to the comic, how it shows Miyamoto Usagi) and how it approcahes the characters as a cast.
So because Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is not a strict retelling of any of the comics narratives, it allows itself room to explore and grow as its own thing, while also loosely adding to the canon in an interesting and unique way.
I hope phrasing the show from that vantage point gives other existing a different view on it.
this show also credits everyone in the production, including even the 3D animation company (a lot of animated shows only credit the company itself, or at least used to do this a lot) so I think that speaks a lot about how the production sees the show itself. The people making the show are valuable and did well, whatever the reception is going to be. And genuinely, I hope it was actually a good experience working on the show for all of the cast and crew.

Hello Ella <3
I hope you're well! I am coming to you for, idek what exactly but... I always appreciate your calm approach to the fandom, and your view on what is happening with Harry and Louis, you seem to be able to keep the big picture in mind quite well.
I see a lot of people saying that Harry "has gone rogue" in connection to the leak and singing I will survive at coachhella and is now just basically saying fuck it and just not giving a shit about anything anymore, and to be honest... that thought terrifies me and if that really is the case, it would make me worry a lot about Harry.
What's your thoughts on this?
Thank you, a confused fellow larrie!
oooooohhhhhhh well. can of worms there ig. i often avoid voicing my opinion on things that people are really divided about bc i am an anxious anxious person who gets minor heart attacks at the sight of a new anon so. i tread carefully to spare myself.
to put it briefly, i don't think harry has gone rogue at all. i don't think i will survive at coachella was a last-minute change of plans. i think lizzo performing with harry was a change, not the song. as for the leak, idk!! i see him behaving as he has been for the past 1-2 years, if we look at the small scale, and then i see him behaving the same way he has been for the past... 5? 7? years. always working towards his goals, his freedoms. painstakingly slowly, but still. moving forward.
to then elaborate, i think the opinion of him going rogue now underestimates him and his long-term goals. it sounds powerful, the idea of h fighting against everything that holds him back so hard that he's burning bridges and never looking back. i just don't think that's what's happening, and i also think it shouldn't be what we wish for, since it would jeopardise his career. he is huge right now, but don't underestimate the filthiness of this world. it would change his entire life. some might say that's what he wants, which ofc could be the case. i don't know what he's thinking or planning, this is just what i've gathered.
my view on harry (and louis) working towards their freedom is that they're playing the game, the filthy game that's always worked against them, in order to win it, end up on top, and then claim their prize: their freedom. they won't stop till they've won, imo. this is why they're still stunting: they're still playing the industry game. they're angry, clearly, which means they're driven to make their moves right and get what they want. bc don't get me wrong, i don't think they want to do stunts. we've all seen h's face in those pics. i just think they know it's the only way to achieve their goals: be successful in the industry and then be free to be whoever they want to be. the stunts cover love-filled albums about long-term commitment. they bring them into the media. attention. sales. success. (a cover, privacy. for now.) most of all: it aids in the climb to the top. look at all the celebs we see and the media we consume. the gp pays the most attention to the newest or hottest couple or the nastiest breakup, or whatever else they made up this time. it sells. it's not glamorous, it's not wholesome, it's not cute. the industry is dirty, but they're in it. and they don't wanna fall off. holivia was never going to be over before hs3, it was always going to be part of hs3 promo, this is something h always knew. he might not have agreed to the sheer scale of the stunt, tho, and o's intense commitment to the charade, which might be why he's been so visibly upset.
i guess i want to say that i don't see a change, and if i do, it's in how harry hints a little stronger lately that he's over having labels stuck to him (by others) (like in the dazed or recent bhg interview) and that he's not happy with his team. but that last bit has been very clear since, at the loudest, the 2021 brits, which was almost exactly a year ago already. we've seen him change slowly in his openness since fl promo, and then even before that, but it's been very very gradual. ig what we're experiencing in the fandom now is that we're seeing the dissonance more and more between how harry is showing himself, openly, and how he's still shown to the gp the same old boring way. this doesn't mean the pap walks are something he's doing at gunpoint, it just means he's probably made agreements bts to have his creative freedom, yet still do stunts to achieve the astronomical successes he's already had and still wants to reach. keep the gp happy, keep harry happy. that's probably a balance jeff tries to make and is currently losing bc he obviously loves the stunt life very very much and harry's like uhm. so after album 3 it's over. right? right, jeff, person i trust? and jeff was like. but my money!! :'( i haven't filled my pool with gold coins yet :(
i'd love to see h and l burn the industry to the ground, but if they do it now, they'll burn their careers right along with it. we were talking about george michael just last week, weren't we? and as much as they clearly want to be open, they know it's worth the wait, bc they know what they're fighting for. and they know how to fight right. don't see it as them being less powerful, instead see it as them being insanely smart. winning the chess game with immeasurable patience and self control.
