Weird side effect of the rwrb movie is my sudden urge to watch the west wing. It’s topically outdated and so very 90s but this shit slaps. Aaron Sorkin aaron sorkining right out the gate. Someone made an offhand comment about getting stuck on DuPont circle and I did the Leo pointing finger because i remember that reference from the off brand west wing movie Aaron did. Also I knew rob lowe was in this but I had no idea he played a hot NERD!?!

why wasn't joey lucas added to the main cast in s2, or even s4. I would even take her splitting amy's time. I know it's hard with a main cast of already 7+, but she made more of an impression in one episode than mandy did in a whole season.

I will say I think modern tv shows gave up a piece of their soul when they started casting super hot young model actors for every role. Where is my cast of completely normal looking characters

#we’re watching Boston legal and I just love having a wide mix of people #like no doubt Candice Bergen is stunning and in general they look nice but #they’re not young tanned models #west wing also #cast of completely normal looking people #bring back normal people in roles. fat and old and middle aged and looking like people you might see in an office PLZ #it’s so much more relatable #I guess mainly I’m thinking of shows like greys anatomy and those Houston 911 shows and that stuff #all super hot actors posing and making sexy faces #loses the charm #the west wing #boston legal

Honestly, I really feel like whatever Sorkin writes is only as good as his actors. His writing has massive flaws, even with how catchy and snarky and fun and lyrical it can be, but depending on who you cast, it really fills the gap between “talking head doing incredibly pretentious dialogue” and “actual character you should care for” and kind of hides the flaws. Yes, this is the start of my ramble on why The West Wing works while The Newsroom doesn’t, despite both shows being … very flawed LOL

#oh and sports night! #like these shows are all very flawed in several ways but i really believe they are only as strong as their cast #the west wing had a killer cast #the newsroom had… like a very awesome array of actors but i feel like the character who really inhabits their lines is leona #instead of like [insert massive monologue here] #this doesn’t brush on sorkin’s massive problem with writing women or people of color but anyway #that’s my ramble! #again this is just me rambling. this is not serious #bee.exe #I watched 1 ep of studio 60 so I don’t feel totally qualified to talk about that so that’s why I left it off #anyway #also i don’t love the newsroom so i am biased in that respect but if you do great for you!

Works in Progress (WIPs)

An Idea, Whose Time has Come (3/20 chapters posted) - "Could always run for President." It’s been twenty years since CJ Cregg joined Jed Bartlet’s campaign, and with another election looming, Danny makes a suggestion: CJ should run for President. So she does. And on the campaign trail, along with a new staff, a hostile incumbent, and a familiar rival candidate, CJ also has to grapple with the legacy and impact of her twenty years in public service – good, bad, and ugly – while preparing for the most important election of her career. CJ/Danny, presidential campaign shenanigans. also side Josh/Donna, Will/Kate, lots of original characters. Some smut. 14k so far. (A present for my dear friend miabicicletta 💜)

None of Us are More Than Caretakers (12 chapters) - “The president’s dead.” Three weeks before Inauguration, things appear to be running smoothly. Transition is going (mostly) well, Kazakhstan is (mostly) stable, and CJ is (mostly) happy with how things are going with Danny. Everything is taken care of. And then former president Gerald Ford dies. Set between "The Last Hurrah" and "Institutional Memory". 66k.

Off the Record (22 chapters) - “And this… thing… would be…?” “Off the record.” (Or, one missing scene per episode). Season 1 missing scenes. 31k.

A Night to Watch - “So how does it feel, watching yourself become unemployed in real time?” Tag to Election Day Parts I & II. 6k.

Not a note, really, but one of the dignitary bingo cards she’d passed out – the one she’d given Josh by the looks of it – with the middle row filled in.
