I am BUZZIN about the Just Like Love followup interest!! Thank you for indulging me <3 so many people asked about so here's the tag for the rest!

Tidbits:

Immediately following the events of Just Like Love, Hob wakes up to an hotel room that reeks of day-old murder. He’s unsurprised to see the Corinthian gone, and laughs when he sees the scarf left behind. He feels a little giddy until he notices the Corinthian took his lighter, which was very nice and old and stolen from somebody else. Then he’s just fucked off.

When he gets back to his flat (with a Bic lighter he was supremely irritated to purchase) he listens to the Corinthian's voicemail, inviting him stateside with absolutely no identifying information, and hears it for the insane foreplay it is. Still unmoored, and not even certain he's getting another 100 years considering his benefactor never showed, Hob doesn't have to think about it.

Hob makes two calls: one to a journalist friend to water his plants while he's gone and also keep asking around at the White Horse, to try and see if Hob's super-secret very-old-school-no-I-don't-even-have-his-phone-number 'source' shows up again. He'd already been covertly checking all week. Some things can't be helped. Then, he phones a very different contact, and the hunt is on. Slick semi-legal detective work occurs. A noir soundtrack plays in the distance.

Hob does find the Corinthian in America, and watches him for a little bit, because he can be profoundly creepy too. This is how he ends up overdressed for a gay club, following a twink to the bathroom and trying to urgently warn him away from the Corinthian, who is dangerous, and shouldn't be trusted. The twink assumes this is some kinky roleplay between a very sexy 80s, tanktop-and-denim-in-his-element Corinthian, and his questionable choice of partner, who is dressed like an undercover fed and doing a clearly fake English accent. He goes to the Corinthian and tells him he should've just said if he wanted a threesome.

Hob and the Corinthian proceed have a fight in the bathroom, but despite their 0 for 1 record for bathroom conflict resolution, successfully end up fucking instead.

There IS a county fair trip, although the Corinthian certainly does not interrogate why he is bent on giving Hob new experiences and sating his appetites and curiosity, and what that might have to do with him being denied the same from Dream. He just wants to. And of course it's not a date. You can tell because they joke about it not being one. They flirt by being both a little too good at rigged carnival games. Hob adores his tour of Americana, and in turn gleefully serves as the Corinthian's unoffical tour guide to humanity and all the splendid pleasures and nightmares it has to offer.

A Spiderman-Pointing Scene ensues when Dream, unwilling to wait for Hob's return, finds Hob in the Waking through his dreams (which, if he'd stopped to pay attention to, might have given him fair warning) and finds him with the Corinthian. Hob says, Christ, no wonder neither of you would tell me your names. This is played for comedy. Then, like a tugged thread unspooling an entire weaving, it all goes to shit.

and finally, share something you’ve done/made recently that you’re proud of: I FINISHED THE NEXT CHAPTER OF AFRICA!!!!!! 🥳 and I went on holiday recently and sat by the beach. It was epic. A guy who looked just like Mickey came out of the sea, whipped his hair back and strutted up the beach in his tiny swimming trunks, water dripping from his muscles. I got out a notebook and wrote out a ficlet about Mickey the lifeguard and Ian the swimmer. I gotta type that out and post it.

Being neurodivergent is truly so inconvenient. We need to talk about that more. I had the whooole last half of last week and this whooole weekend to do nothing but study for my big exam on Thursday. I have not even yet managed to finish the remaining 15 pages of one of the texts. And the worst thing is, I don't feel like doing anything else either!! It's not like I desperately need to draw, it's not like I desperately want to play a game, or watch a specific tv show or read a specific comic. No, nope. I'm just absolutely unable to do the ONE thing I had planned my whole time to do - to study about a topic I'm EXTREMELY passionate about and know WHY it's important that I do so - and when I try to push through it I fall fucking asleep! AAAAAAAAAA!!!!! So I end up losing hours and hours on social media, and now executive dysfunction is screwing me all over, I'm taking my meds super late and waking up super late, and the whole day ends up being a mess!!

SABBAT!

New designs for Bing and Larry, designs for the other two members, a relationship chart...more art and info under the cut! (trust me, there's a whooole lot)

A curious bunch. Kind of an unlikely match (I mean Lasombra and Ventrue under the same roof sounds like a recipe for disaster..lol), but circumstances played their part. They may not be ideal for each other but it's all they have. Family, woof 👆

Why would I assign them with animals and elements? First off, it makes the designing process so much easier, since it creates direction. Second, it makes thematic sense. They've been denied humanity, and then they chose to keep it that way. "You see me a monster, well then, I'll be the monster" kind of situation. So, they'd rather associate with animals and elements than humans.

I could go on, but I'd rather have you experience the thing first hand in game (also doubt people would read further into this post otherwise lmao). Onto the characters!

Bing

Animal: Serpent

Element: Earth (Nature)

Main shtick: Change; Pain

Bing has more backstories than he does fingers, so nobody is quite sure on his origin. The one thing that seems certain is that he spent most of his existence in Russian Empire but fled when the civil war broke out in the 1910s. You'd think a Tzimisce of this age and history would be up to something nefarious now in Britain, but Bing is more concerned with "self search" and identity crisis. You could say he spends his retirement days here, or rather...used to spend, before one thing happened. But this, you'll learn more of playing the game XP

Bing dresses up kind of similar to the way he used to, back in the XVIII century. The outfit is rather loose (before I added clips onto the coat, I was told it looked more like a bathrobe...which, I suppose, is kind of fitting too XD), in order to leave extra room for when Bing uses Vicissitude (more on that later).

Bing's main gimmick is Tzimisce's signature, Vicissitude and the way he chooses to use it. Instead of turning his head into a giant pickle (Andrei lmao), Bing turns into different people. Not just appearance wise, it also includes voice, mannerisms, even personality. This is what I mean when I say he doesn't need to make clones - he IS the clone.

What he chooses to turn into most of the time are personas he used to "play out" during his glory days, XVIII century coups. Sometimes when prompted, sometimes just to troll others (if they dislike certain mannerisms or find the general idea of shape-shifting weird/scary).

These were crafted in accordance with the "ruler of the week", to win them over and then later "direct" them towards what Bing's Tzimisce sires and mentors needed. In a way, they are "clones" of these rulers (except maybe appearances), cuz imitation is the highest form of flattery lol

Though Bing also likes to experiment with his default form, as he doesn't find it ideal (his "true face", the one he forgot). Bing switches pronounce depending on current form (he/she/they, or anything else he feels like at the current moment).

Bing's battle form, aka the pinnacle of his Vicissitude mastery. If you happen to see it, usually it means you'll die a painful death in the next five minutes X)

Larry

Animal: Jackal

Element: Water

Main shtick: Loyalty and betrayal

Larry was dealt some shitty cards and forced upon the life of crime since early childhood. First a pirate (where he got his tan, scars, and vision problem), then a mercenary for a, uh, "dubious company" sponsored by Lasombra clan. Certain events made him overly sensitive to betrayals, so if you betray Larry, or hurt those he swore loyalty to, he will loathe you. And Larry's hatred runs deep. He always means business.

Larry's outfit is like, a modern take on pirate fashion. A bit rough around the edges, just enough to give him that "jackal" look. Larry's second name is practical, so he carries lots of belts. Never know when you mind need one.

Larry's signature, Obtenebration, comes from the Abyss and runs on his negative emotions. Which is why he's prone to lashing out and general bad mood. Needless to say it is extremely unhealthy, but power is power.

The story behind him coming to know Bing is fun. Originally, Larry was sent to kill him, but it was a set up, since Larry didn't stand a chance against that. So they kind of bonded instead, "enemy of my enemy is my friend". And after a while Larry just grew attached XDD He still goes on about murdering Bing "one day", but at this point everyone is aware it's not gonna happen like, ever.

Adella

Animal: Raven/Crow

Element: Fire

Main shtick: Control

Adella is half-chinese born in Britain. Do I need to say she didn't have a particularly fun time or is it obvious enough? From a very young age she was forced to believe she can only count on herself. Adella strived to climb the corporate ladder and get on top. To "burn her way through the obstacles". Might be lonely up there, but she was used to it either way, and she'd have the power and control to smack down anyone who tries to harm her. For now, let's just say she ended up upsetting the wrong people and had to run for her life. Sabbat was "kind" enough to let her stay under their wing.

Adella's relatively fresh meat, so her grasp on Sabbat "culture" is rather small for now. Though she is attempting to fit in more. She's determined to stay, despite whatever Larry says about her "looking for the opportunity to dump them". Adella insists she'd rather die than go back to the cammies. Bing is willing to give her the chance to prove herself.

Her and Larry's relationship is quite fun in how disastrous it is. Both constantly looking for jabs to throw at each other. The irony is, their stories and goals are kind of similar. But they're also different in ways that make their blood boil when they have to interact.

Zephyr

Animal: House centipede

Element: Wind

Main shtick: Security

Zephyr is truly a victim of circumstance. Lost ability to speak, lost all his loved ones, lost his home. Not a penny to his name, and no name either. His mind in ruin. He roamed around in the wild, until Bing found him. Seeing something familiar in him, Bing let him stay by their side. Found him a new name. A new purpose. A reason to keep on existing. Slowly, Zephyr is learning ways to communicate again. Perhaps he'll be able to remember, and tell his story one day.

Zephyr is the least human-like kindred, and looks like an atom bomb fell on his face. Despite the first impression he might create, Zephyr is a rather meek soul, doesn't seek conflict and is fine with following orders. That attitude changes when something threatens rest of the "family", though...

Zephyr is generally adored by his packmates, one could call him the "gentle giant" of the pack. Adella loves spending time with Zephyr, even Larry tolerates him. Though I'd say the most sympathy for him comes from Bing. As mentioned earlier, Bing sees a kindred spirit in Zephyr, so he is most invested in Zephyr's well being. Bing was the one to give him his new name. He's also the one learning sign language with him, so they'd have a better way of communication.

Each version of Mr Scratch and what they smell like - Scratch and sniff, if you will.

Okay so because I am So Normal about Scratch, the other night I was wondering what he smells like, and more specifically, what each games' version of him smells like. Now the obvious comes to mind with versions like AW2, who is covered in blood and dons a biker jacket- he smells like gore and leather. But at the mall I did some literal sniffing around some different men's fragrances and have come up with a list of what each version of Scratch would smell like in terms of cologne, as well as extra scents (such as the aforementioned blood and leather). Here we go!!

AW1 Scratch

The smells, generalized: a warm and spicy cologne, freshly printed ink on paper, the woods, cold air.

We don't get to see much of Scratch in AW1, as he's introduced in the ending, but its DLCs do give us more. However that freshness, that just-created copy of Alan, makes me feel like he would not only smell like- very subtly- freshly printed ink on paper, but also whatever Alan may have worn as a fragrance combined with a genuine forest scent of pine needles, dirt, etc. as well as cold air. As for Alan's fragrance and therefore Scratch's, my cologne for AW1 Scratch is...

Gucci Guilty Por Homme. This fragrance is described in this way: A woody, aromatic, ambery fragrance that magnifies the true essence of [the fragrance's] signature. A new and intense vision of masculinity, [the fragrance] opens with a lighter, milder, and more modernized aromatic hook. The true essence of [the fragrance] is magnified at the heart with the deep ambery signature of Spanish cistus combined with the floral richness of orange flower and a spicy hint of nutmeg. Finally, the mysterious elegance of Indonesian patchouli is reinforced with the long-lasting sensation of dry woods and musks. The fragrance family is "warm and spicy," and the type is considered "woody spices."

I feel this vibe fits Alan, at least in the first game, perfectly. If you've smelled this scent, you know what I mean. It's the smell of a man who has enough money to blow on expensive cologne, yet it somehow remains a humble scent, if one can apply that word to a smell. Though this is said of Alan by Scratch in AWAN, not AW1, "you've got money, fame, but you don't know what to do with it!" In my mind, this is translating back to Alan as a successful writer but still a relatively normal dude, and this scent just fits the vibes. Like yes I have enough money to buy Gucci cologne, but I'm not gonna shove it in your face. Likely only wears it in a very very light way. And because of AW1 Scratch being a fresh copy of Alan, he would wear this scent too. He hasn't developed enough of his own self yet, not like he has by AWAN, so I imagine he smells like Alan does.

To recap: AW1 Scratch smells like Gucci Guilty Por Homme because that is what Alan wears (in my mind) and he is a fresh copy of Alan, yet to develop his own scent tastes. He smells also of the literal woods, as Alan likely does from his "adventure." The smell of fresh ink on paper refers to the vibes of being a "copy," and of words being typed with a typewriter's ink. Cold air refers once more to his freshness and lack of real self- it's like he's hollow, and when he enters the room it turns, and smells, cold, like a winter night.

AWAN Scratch

The smells, generalized: a versatile, charismatic, elegant cologne, hair gel, freshly pressed clothes, Campari.

Scratch has developed his whooole own personality by the time we see him again in AWAN, and therefore has also developed his own taste in fragrances. We know damn well this man is spending good money for good cologne- after all, it's Alan's money that he's taking and using for anything he wants, why not spend an extra bit to smell good? Also, his insanely gelled hair, he's got some hair gel smell on him too. His clothes are very nice and neat (when they aren't bloody) and he often straightens them up, so I'd assume they are freshly pressed and ironed and starched and all that, which you can smell. Campari is not confirmed to be the drink AWAN Scratch has, but considering it is the drink of Tom Zane's choice and his similarities to AWAN Scratch, let's say it is. It's the same color, anyway. It looks the same. He has a faint smell of it on him when he's been drinking. As for Scratch's fragrance, my cologne for AWAN Scratch is...

Montblanc Legend Spirit. This fragrance is described in this way: Discovering a breathtakingly fresh woody aromatic territory, this cool and confident scent blends energizing citrus with intense cardamom and lavender, settling on a sensual woody base. [The fragrance] is a powerfully modern scent designed for a passionate man who yearns to explore new horizons. The fragrance reveals a more casual side of the [designer] man while maintaining the same versatility, elegance, and charisma of the original. It's style is also said to be versatile, charismatic, and elegant.

A passionate man yearning to explore new horizons? Is that not exactly what our dear AWAN Scratch is doing? Sure, his yearning is more like obsession and his new horizons are horrifying, but it still fits. It's said to reveal a casual side but maintain the same elements of the original- Scratch reveals to us his silly, playful, campy side through his tapes and dialogue, but we must remember the original elements of him being an evil bastard. Scratch's versatility in murder and in methods of fucking up Alan's life fits that bit (I will not stoop to making sex jokes). AWAN Scratch is dictionary definition charismatic, the man could charm me out of my clothes just by looking at me. And elegant- Scratch seems to want to appear groomed, clean, neat. He dresses nice, in a suit. I suppose that's elegant enough.

The vibe I got smelling this for the first time hit me straight in the face as AWAN Scratch's smell. It's the smell of that nicely dressed, weirdly charming man you happen upon somewhere in passing. A party, a store, the street. And who knows, maybe that man is a super natural serial killer too? This is a very very charming scent, the vibes are off the charts correct for Mr Scratch.

To recap: AWAN Scratch smells like Montblanc Legend Spirit, because that is a charismatic and charming cologne if I've ever smelled one. The vibes are just off the charts Scratch coded. His hair gel is also probably fragrant, he uses so much of it you'd probably smell it if he got relatively close to you. Freshly pressed clothes get a spot as not only a vibe but a possible applicable smell, as we see Scratch straighten up his clothes and try to look put together, his clothes must be ironed and taken care of. And finally, the Campari- it's not confirmed that's what he drinks, but in my mind it is, and when he does drink, you get a faint hint of it off him.

AW2 Scratch

The smells, generalized: earthy and woody cologne, leather, blood, hotel soap.

By AW2, Scratch has been defeated once, and now, he's just pissed off and wants the Clicker. In every instance we see the man, he's disheveled, and has at least some blood on him somewhere. The other two have to do with Scratch possessing people- the leather from Jaakko's jacket, and the hotel soap as the vaguest, barely there little note you can only smell if you get close enough to, say, kiss him. Which I would. Anyways, that's from Alan freshening up at the lodge, and if we count him possessing Casey, I'm sure he's also been using that soap. I'll elaborate later on what I mean by hotel soap. For now we will see something else. My cologne for AW2 Scratch is....

Burberry Hero. This fragrance is described in this way: The vibrant freshness of bergamot is invigorated with juniper and black pepper and deepened with a heart of cedarwood—a new man, a new hero. I smelled this and I immediately pictured the colors associated with AW2 Scratch- black, dark brown, deep red. I picked up on a vibe I thought fit him pretty quickly, and this was one of the last colognes I smelled, too. I thought I'd have to settle for one I didn't really think fit him, but then this one fixed that. The earthy and woody description fits for a man who crawled from a lake in the middle of a forest, and the vibes of transformation, embracing your true self, and becoming extroardinary?? All Scratch coded. He wants to transform Alan into himself, or vice versa. He really seems to embrace that raw, visceral, angry version of himself in AW2. And to have the clicker, to be God essentially, is that not extraordinary? The style this stuff goes for is what Scratch goes for. Plus my synesthesia vouches for it.

To recap: AW2 Scratch smells like Burberry Hero cologne, because the vibes are just absolutely applicable to him, and even just smelling it in person I saw his colors. He also smells like leather because, well, poor Jaakko's jacket is now his, and I know for a fact Jaakko takes good care of that leather and it smells great. Blood is obvious, Scratch is constantly covered in it, and if you've never truly smelled blood, like a room covered in it...trust me, you don't wanna. Just take my word that it smells like a sweeter version of rusty metal. And hotel soap, I will now elaborate: you know the little soaps you can get at hotels, how they all smell exactly the same?? Alan definitely freshened up at the lodge, and Casey had been staying there so he likely used it too, and I feel Scratch carried the ever so slight hint of it if you got really really close and he didn't like. Bite your face off.

SO!! That was a lot of work, research, and headaches from sniffing a bunch of cologne for a good thirty minutes. Plus some other stuff that I think fits the Scratch versions. HONESTLY. link and linkle make up the most of my enjoyment .

hw link has somewhat of a unique arc, being cocky and overconfident to a degree that becomes a genuine flaw with a whooole story beat dedicated to it ! meanwhile linkle is just so so funny and so so fun . i love her and her side story to bits

in general a lot of characters that I Also like are in there (midna, fi, tetra, other characters of that sort) and the story is loose enough that i can just have fun playing dolls basically.

i actually do not like the gameplay at all LOLLL . it is boring to me . sorry real hw truthers. if i had to choose a game i acutally like for gameplay/story i really enjoyed majora's mask despite my complaining to my darling friends. some of those mask quests left me in awe and the fierce deity mask made the final boss SO FUNNN albeit very short. left on a really really good note so i am biased LOL

Joey Drew is Gay and there's no way around it (Pt 6)

Finally, to finish my Joeysplaining.

Firstly, Donaldson and Eckhart.

Joey seemed to get along well with them, and Nathan gives us the not-so-needed confirmation that these two men were in fact real people. Nathan also notes that Joey relayed their personalities with a great deal of accuracy.

Joey mentions later that they went overseas and died in the war.

It's open to interpretation whether or not he was interested in them, but I feel that's irrelevant. Their presence in his life and later deaths seems to have left a lasting impact.

(I could go on a whooole tangent about how losing his friends to war could have played into his fear of death AND how it was maybe another reason why he tried so hard to keep an iron grip on Henry, buuut that's frankly bordering on theory territory sooo I'll reel it back in.)

Since that's about it for Donaldson and Eckhart, we'll hop skip and jump over to Bertrum now.

There's this interaction, which happens towards the end of the autobiography:

Here we see Joey missing the point entirely. Bertrum was making a joke, the joke being "funny" because they aren't actually on a date. Them dating would be a silly concept from his perspective.

This flies over Joey's head. Joey is literally tipsy and still trying to figure out if Bertrum is playing hard to get or not. WHICH WOULD BE IRRELEVANT TO A STRAIGHT MAN. I'M JUST SAYING.

He also calls him "Bert/Bertie" a few times which just leaves me with more questions than answers. Sir, how many of your original staff do you have a crush on? Be honest, now.

Bonus: Joey serving his country by wishing that his fellow soldiers would change uniform a little slower.

TL;DR

At this point, it makes more sense narratively speaking if Joey is gay, or at the very least, queer. This mainly shows in the way he went about trying to create a family, his attitudes towards the various men in his life in both Illusion of Living and the Bendy game series, and finally, the fact that he shoved a bunch of art and band kids in the same brick rectangle with no air conditioning and expected things to work out.

#also! Joey being gay does not negate him being other identities like Ace for example #this was mostly meant to focus on the information that seemed to suggest he is gay #joey is a pretty complex character believe it or not and I'd like to do multiple deep dives about him #also a deep dive about Wally but that's a task that would require HELLA research because he just shows up when he feels like it #I want to talk about every Bendy character in detail to be honest #joey drew #batim #batdr #joey drew is gay #archer writes
