For those who haven't read The Witcher, I feel the need to tell you some things...
Ciri was something around 10, I think, when she met Geralt, and was a terrible brat.
One of the first times Geralt met Ciri, he gave her a piggy back ride because she hurt her leg.
He told her a bed time story because she asked him to.
Geralt is a sarcastic bastard, especially with Ciri.
Ciri led Geralt by the hand when he had to be blindfolded while walking through Brokilon forest by the Dryads.
Ciri would cling to Geralt's thigh when she was frightened.
Geralt would cuddle Ciri so that she could fall asleep, and she would reach out to him as she slept.
There were hugs, and I think all of them were initiated by Geralt himself because he could see that Ciri was frightened or he was just very happy to see her.
Stay tuned for more...

A comment I see a lot is that Jaskier’s outfits have gotten worse over the seasons, but not when you think about their relation to his character growth. Here’s a look at Jaskier’s outfits across the seasons of The Witcher.
Season one: his outfits change frequently and each is as boldly coloured and extravagant as the next. They’re detailed but also have an air of royalty to their design, with puffed sleeves, high collar, high waistline of the pants, and a slim-fit around the waist.

This is because he’s just starting out as a bard; he is still used to being a viscount, used having money and living in luxury.
Then in season two, we get the Sandpiper outfit, one outfit that is durable and layered so that it can be adjusted to suit different climates. It’s more practical but less detailed which makes it easier for him to blend in with normal people (which benefits his cause). At this point, Jaskier is more established as a bard and now pays for himself or scrounges money and uses it to help people in need, so there’s less fancy clothing or materialistic spending. His vest has a pattern to it that calls back to season one but it’s dull, faded and stained.

But what’s more, his hair is unkempt and his clothes are blood soaked and stained, a visual representation of his mental downfall since the end of season one when he and Geralt had a falling out.
And now, in the previews of season three, his hair is groomed/neat, his clothes are still the Sandpiper outfit but with a floral shirt and a detailed, open-breasted vest that calls back to the patterns and intricacies of his outfits in season one. He’s found a balance between simplicity and the elegance he was used to. He’s more comfortable in himself and has found a balance between who he was (a viscount who knew money and luxury) and who he wanted to be (the Sandpiper; someone who helps others).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another detail is his collars.
In season one, he wears high collars that cover his chest and neck, suggesting he’s shut off and defensive or uncomfortable in his surroundings.
In season two, his collars stick up but his chest and neck are bare, suggesting he still has his defences up but he’s been laid bare emotionally and psychologically.
Finally, on season three, his collars lay flat, his shirt is unbuttoned and his vest has a wide lapel, suggesting he’s comfortable, open, and isn’t scared of being vulnerable.
That’s just my thoughts on the matter. And while I would love to see Jaskier in outfits like the ones in season one, I also like the other outfits and how they reflect him.

I know we all think of Burn Butcher Burn as THEE breakup song, but I’d like to turn everyone’s attention back to Her Sweet Kiss for a minute. It tends to get overlooked compared to the other in-universe songs, mostly because the final version was never technically diagetic. But it plays over the 1x06 credits, and we’re clearly supposed to understand it as having been written immediately post-mountain.
If you remember, Jaskier was working on this portion of the lyrics at the very beginning of the episode:
“I’m weak, my love, and I am wanting / If this is the path I must trudge / I’ll welcome my sentence / Give to you my penance / (Gorgeous) garotter, jury and judge.”
He wrote this before Geralt ever sent him away, and it becomes all the more heartbreaking in hindsight when you realize what it means in that context. This is Jaskier accepting that Geralt will never love him back. He’s too weak to do the harder thing and just leave, but he accepts that his feelings will never be returned because to him, being with Geralt in any capacity is worth the punishment of unrequited love. Supporting him in whatever way Geralt will accept is his penance.
And then Geralt blames Jaskier for all his problems and banishes him from his life. The lyrics are worked into a song all about Yennefer, a warning to Geralt about the dangers of being in a relationship with her. The original lines remain exactly the same (except that, tellingly, “Gorgeous” is removed), but the context shifts. The path Jaskier must trudge is now a lonely one, the punishment worse than ever. He feels he deserves to do penance for the crime of his unreturned feelings and sees himself as a burden and an annoyance for having them because Geralt just told him that’s what he is. He’s lost the one thing that made all that pain worth it, but now he’s too weak to do the harder thing and fight to stay with Geralt. Jaskier won’t protest Geralt’s cruel and unfair treatment of him because he knows (thinks) he’s already lost him to Yennefer forever. Burn Butcher Burn is full of rage, but in the immediate aftermath there’s no anger, only heartbreak.
Which only makes Jaskier’s relationship with Yennefer in Season 2 all the more interesting. This is the woman he thinks he lost his love to, and only months ago he wrote a whole song begging Geralt to stay the fuck away from her. There’s a deep bitterness when they first meet that is only slightly masked by Jaskier’s usual humour, but as soon as he realizes the danger she’s in, his first instinct is to help her and protect her. The camaraderie they find in their mutual fallings out with Geralt, and the softness initiated by Yennefer being a hugger, is really special to watch.
I don’t really know where I’m going with this other than that Jaskier is a gem and he doesn’t deserve to be shit on by the narrative the way he has been.

Do you think that when Geralt and Jaskier aren't together, especially after Jaskier wrote "Burn Butcher Burn," the townspeople come up with all sorts of wild theories about why they split up?

I forget which interview it was but it was for S3 re: Jaskier being queer and his relationship with Radovid, so it's recent and it's a good interview but there's one part in particular that stood out to me.
And it's when Joey is asked if he was always playing Jaskier as queer and Joey replied that, in season one, he was playing Jaskier as straight because, as far as he knows, Dandelion is straight in the books.
To repeat: Joey said he was playing Jaskier as straight in season one.

So, I have to admit that I'm very confused now. Far be it from me to accuse him of lying, especially since I don't know him and can't read his mind or anything like that. So, presuming that he's being honest....
... That's supposed to be Jask being heterosexual?
That's Joey playing the bard as heterosexual?
He's one of my favorite actors and I think he's fantastic. I'm not accusing him of bad acting, exactly, because frankly, he was born to play Jaskier in particular but he's also just good in general. I'm just trying to process that that's what Joey thought Jaskier being het looked like.
Because the interview makes it sound like the idea to play Jaskier as queer didn't happen until before S3 began but we could all see that Jaskier was fruity AF. We all enjoyed his defensiveness with "nobody leaves any tastes in my mouth, thank you very much" and we all noticed the pause before "artists". Tumblr had a meltdown over "I'm not not into it."
Again, I'm not accusing him of lying. I'm just trying to process how, at all these steps along the way, Joey was apparently like, "Yes, this is 100% the heterosexual way to proceed here."
Maybe he really does just get possessed by Jaskier and that explains why Joey's intention to play Jaskier as straight earlier in the show came off as queer? Because Jaskier just cannot come across as heterosexual despite Joey's admirable acting talents? Jaskier's fruitiness was just too strong?
I'm just so happy the bard is canonically pansexual. I'm pansexual and to know one of my favorite characters, and one of my favorite fantasy characters, is like me in that regard? I get to see someone like me in a fantasy show and it's just this healthy, positive thing? It means so much! And I'm so grateful for Joey wanting to do this and wanting to do it so carefully and thoughtfully.

Yennefer: I sleep with a dagger under my pillow.
Renfri: Weak, I sleep with a sword.
Jaskier: You guys are pathetic.
Yennefer: Oh? What do you sleep with?
Jaskier: Geralt.
