I bet on losing dogs I know they're losing and I'll pay for my place By the ring Where I'll be looking in their eyes when they're down I'll be there on their side I'm losing by their side
Tumblr media
MARTIN Yeah, but if, if you're that connected, that dependent, what happens if we actually, y'know, do manage to— ARCHIVIST We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, I just need us to be moving on.
Tumblr media
The price of a long due reckoning Laid in blood when the battle has done Old King Cole has paid the toll Of the crimes levied upon his soul The rebel blades have achieved their goal Laid in blood when the battle has done

Pip: We're doomed Flip: We're not. Pip: Are you sure?
Tumblr media
There's been so little time to share We've always had our loads to bear I won't forget I won't leave you this time This time
Tumblr media
MARTIN I refuse to accept that this— ARCHIVIST (Firm) Tough! The world doesn't care what you accept. It just... is! It just is.

It's getting late, Little Moon. Finish the song. It's not that late. You are my moon, Little Moon, and it's late enough. So climb down out of the tree. Is it safe? Safe enough. Are you dead as well?
Tumblr media
MARTIN Yeah, yeah. Come on. We've got a job to do.

possibly my most embarrassingly tumblrina trait is i'm still highkey obsessed with that “we have not touched the stars, nor are we forgiven” poem despite all the memeing. like yeah mister siken please tell me more about the hero's shoulders and the gentleness that comes not from the absence of violence but despite the abundance of it actually

the worm king's lullaby - richard silken
1
The holes in this story are not lamps, they are not
wheels. I walked and walked, grew a beard so I could
drag it in the dirt, into a forest that wasn't there. I want
to give you more but not everything. You don't need
everything.
2
This is what they found on the dead man's desk when
the landlord let them in: twenty-eight pages, esoteric
and unfollowable, written with perfect penmanship
and a total disregard for any reader, as if the intended
audience was a population not quite human. Angelic
script, says the detective, lifting the pages, feeling their
heft and he wonders what he means because it isn't.
His partner nods but ignores him.
A park bench, white roses, dark coats and white roses,
snow and repetitions of snow--it's hard to read but
pretty much how they found him: dead on a bench in
a black coat, the snow falling down.
Twigs and blackbirds, snow and red horses, the ghosts
floating up, the snow falling down--the detective is
weeping--and the black coat.
3
Someone has to leave first. This is a very old story.
There is no other version of this story.

It's getting late, Little Moon. Finish the song. It's not that
late. You are my moon, Little Moon, and it's late enough.
So climb down out of the tree. Is it safe? Safe enough. Are
you dead as well?
The night is cold, it is silver, it is a coin.
Not everyone is dead, Little Moon. But the big moon needs
the tree. There is a ghost at the end of the song. Yes,
there is. And you see his hand and then you see the moon.
Am I the ghost at the end of the song? We are very close
now, Little Moon. Thank you for shining on me.
5
He was pointing at the moon but I was looking at his
hand. He was dead anyway, a ghost. I'm surprised I
saw his hand at all. All this was prepared for me. All
this was set in motion a long time ago. I live in someone
else's future. I stayed as long as I could, he said. Now look at
the moon.

oooooooh my god so random of you to ask I'd love to tell you
ok so the card itself was supposed to be part of an art thing about yami yk dying again drama drama everyone's sad that's the context
the title of the card "we say that once there were two" is a quote from the poem war of the foxes (from the book war of the foxes) by Richard Siken love the poem do read it at some point the whole book is up on genius lyrics for free
so the poem itself starts with this fox trying to eat two rabbits and they talk to each other
" Pip: We're doomed. Flip: We're not. Pip: Are you sure? Flip: Yes. Here, hide inside me.
This is the story of Pip and Flip, the bunny twins. We say that once there were two and now there is only one. "
that's the excerpt of the poem I'm specifically referencing in comparing the relationship of yami and yugi with yami literally hiding in the other for his own safety they become one to save themselves
(you could also argue that this is in reference to the puzzle the big triangle thing but that's a whole other can of worms of hiding bodies in bodies
(also it's a light monster yugi is the light one in the relationship yada yada that's just for myself mostly)
than BOTTOM TEXT BOX
in the top brackets is the kind of monster the card would be in this case
[ SOMEONE HAS TO LEAVE / FIRST ]
pre slash is the king of monster it is
it's a shorthand for knowing basically what kind of thing is going on with this card
in this case it's telling you the main crux of this quote is about loss
the second half of the / is basically what the monster does it's either normal and has no fun ability or effect and it does
in this case the / is both emphasizing the word first obviously but it's also saying it's referencing yami due to him being the first cuz the post / is a way of sorting the two (ish) kinds of monsters in this case it's sorting the two characters first (yami) second (yugi)
"this is a very old story / there is not other version of this story"
this quote is mostly referencing the tablet of memories which is a literal stone tablet made about yumis OG death so it is both a very old story (he's like 3000/5000 year sold depending on where you look) and there's also no other way this could have ended yami was always meant to die but not even in the normal way in the way that every choice he made in the show was to get him closer to finally being able to pass over to the afterlife and his death is literally carved into stone
