For the curious who want to see just how chaotic and all over the place my notes were when I was writing Storm Surge, I just rediscovered my notepads while doing some tidying up.

It’s... a lot. And most of it me going wtf???

My absolute favourite when I had this epiphany about the ending in the middle of chatting with someone and had to grab a pen:

The rest was a lot of me just trying to work out what was happening, then shrieking every time they threw me a curve ball. I had no idea Mary would be there until she was. I had no idea what Josiah’s motivation was until about halfway through. Hornberry was a complete and very useful surprise. My brain is so much smarter than me.

You’ll be able to see how much bits and pieces changed as more and more pieces came into play. There was much wailing into a pillow and yelling every time something else happened, but it all came together in the end.

AO3 Comments are SO SO SOOOOOOO important because you can only leave Kudos ONCE. You add to the hit count ONCE (every 24 hours).

So whenever someone updates their fic, the ONLY way an author knows who their regular readers are is if they comment on each chapter. And we WANT to know who's still reading.

Believe it or not, some of us think about the name that pops up constantly in the comments and go "omg I can't wait to see what they think of THIS SPECIFIC SCENE cuz I KNOW they'll say something about it!!!"
