SMOSH'S SEASONAL LINEUP: A COMPLETE GUIDE by mac kahey smosh theatre, a musical theater company known for its diverse and inclusive productions, has just announced its show lineup for the year, and it is safe to say that fans are far from disappointed. starting off strong, the company kicked off its announcement with its winter showcase: a production of hadestown, led by stars damien haas and jacklyn uweh, and directed by none other than returning smosh co-founder, anthony padilla. padilla made his comeback to smosh a little over six months ago to collaborate with his fellow co-owner on their spring and summer musicals. this will be padilla's first solo show at the playhouse in nearly six years - and what a show to start off on. coupling this tragic tale of love lost with padilla's edgy direction style is a bold move, and fans are, rightfully, excited. the casting choices are also impeccable. the star-studded lineup includes previously-mentioned damien haas, an openly neurodivergent and queer actor making waves for representation everywhere. he'll be taking on the role of orpheus, a hopeless romantic, poet, and musician, and as someone who had the pleasure of sitting down with him for an interview last spring, all of these qualities describe haas to a t. this will be his first time leading a show with smosh in his near-six-year run at the company, and his first time working with padilla as a director. the actor shared the show to his instagram and expressed his excitement for the production, saying, "anthony is such a great director. it's been an honor to work with him and my amazing castmates." speaking of his castmates - his leading lady is none other than superstar jacklyn uweh. returning from her recent stint touring with the cast of spring awakening, she has rejoined the smosh cast for another performance that's sure to be amazing. the actress is known for advocating for women of color in theater spaces and never being afraid to speak her mind. she also, notably, has one of the most incredible singing voices of our generation. taking on the mysterious yet powerful role of eurydice will be no easy feat, but somehow, i think she has the power to manage it. just with this one casting, smosh has shown that when the perfect cast falls into their lap, they aren't foolish enough not to utilize it. the stacked cast doesn't stop there, though. playing hermes, the play's narrator and father figure to young orpheus, is ify nwadiwe, a booming comedic actor who has been known to feature in smosh productions. his fun-loving demeanor and natural swagger are sure to bring a natural carefree energy to this rendition of hadestown. he, too, spoke of the production fondly on social media, posting on x: "this is one of the greatest things i've ever been a part of. come see us next december to february at the smosh playhouse for one of the most incredible, f***ed up things we've ever done." long-time smosh player keith leak jr is taking on the role of hades, the rich, powerful, and egotistical king of the underworld, and his friend and partner in all things theater, olivia sui, will be beside him once more as persephone, hades's free-spirited yet suffering wife. watching these two together is always a delight, and i cannot wait for their dynamic to shine through the characters that they play. as far as the winter production is concerned, the community's shared high hopes for padilla's return may very well turn out to be grounded in reality. with an all-star cast and an incredible crew, such as returning stage head erin dougal, it is easy to see that padilla knows what he's doing. though only time will tell, i am confident that this production will be a huge success, and very well may be my favorite show of the year - although, i must mention the other productions first - because they all have incredible potential.

ok but imagine an au about stage manager james potter and theatre actor regulus black, with playwright remus & musician sirius. james gets employed to work on the show that remus wrote & sirius composed for, that regulus is starring in, and falls head over heels for regulus and often gets distracted by him while standing in the wings.

Theatre AU I'm tentatively calling Break A Leg!

In light of the recent info on how they used to be a theatre bot, this is a "what if the switch to daycare workers REALLY didn't work out" AU

So the boys' theatre was a popular attraction for both kids and adults. But eventually, the novelty of acting animatronics wore off and their shows got less popular, so management decided to take back the theater and make it into the glamrocks' new stage.

The plan was to repurpose the boys as daycare bots, but management didn't even have them reprogrammed before chucking them in the daycare, so of COURSE it was a disaster! Both boys had never interacted with humans directly, and their only point of reference was to treat this as yet another role, they don't know how to be their own people (yet) (Moon: So I'm the Naptime Attendant??.... And I always play a villain. So evil naptime attendant. Got it! >: ) ) Thinking of Moon ending up being too in character and rough and breaking someone's leg (hence the title djdj)

So the boys got shut down and put into storage (and mayhaps forgotten) for a while

Until an unwitting and expendable intern named y/n is hired to clean out/take inventory of the storage in parts and services, finds them, and accidently reactivates them.

Specifically, Moon.

They manage to survive the encounter by being an experienced dnd/LARP nerd (jdhsdj), because they use that to rule-lawyer and improv the scene to their advantage, and survive intact!

And management is like "Oh shit, we can make money out of this!!" And so the intern is tasked with rehabilitating them both to be safe enough around humans, and especially more kid friendly, and if they succeed, the boys will take over comedybot's theatre and do kids' shows, with them as their handler. Y/N only has until the end of their internship to accomplish this though, with a job and the boys' lives on the line!

So that's the mise en scène cjdnd

Their main problem right now is they don't know how to interact with humans! They were always on stage, or rehearsing (alone together) in their 'lodge', so they're in character 100% of the time

For Sun, that means projecting his voice and over-acting every single movement and emotion so it can be read from afar... Which is not ideal when it's just you two and he's within arm's reach. The only quiet persona he knows are the less confident, nervous support roles

As for Moon, well, he only knows how to terrify. And it doesn't help that management gave them STAFF bots as co-stars and props, and encouraged their destruction for the thrill and realism of a scene. He does still have the whole hook and cable system! But he wasn't security: he used it to rig the lights, speakers, moving props, etc on the grid above the stage. And for special effects like flying et on stage, of course!

Their costume change was part of the act --Every one of their costume has a reversible outer layer, so when they switch out, the pants change colors (you don't want them to take them off on stage..) And they spin their faceplate as it transforms while they take off their jacket/cloak/whatever, turns it over, and put it back on in one transformation

They would also sing duets by stepping in and out of a spotlight and mostly just transforming their faceplate, usually taking advantage of the clothes' inner lining to display one side/color or another

Now, though, they haven't been maintained in years, and so their colors are faded since they're meant to be retouched for every role, their pupils are missing, their favorite jacket is missing, and the gears in their faceplate that spun so smoothly is gunked up with debris, grinding clunkily

Okay, I was so ready to recommend a WIP, The Truth That Once Was by @goddammitjim – An AU in which Obi-Wan and Cody are Broadway actors performing Les Misérables. Don't get me wrong, I'd still recommend it, it's really good so far, but I can't seem to find any other fics like this, so I'm starting to think that this is the one you're talking about?

And in that case I'd like to share this one with the crowd, maybe someone has some suggestions I'm not familiar with!

Rhapsody in Blue by kckenobi (@kckenobi) - another modern AU in which Obi-Wan and Cody are still performers (but in an Orchestra). You might like this one if you enjoyed the above-mentioned fic, there are some similarities in that they're all colleagues and there're plenty of secrets and flashbacks to Obi-Wan's past – admittedly, it's less focused on Cody, but I don't think it's that big a stretch and it's a great read And there's this huge mystery thrown in there too (which really keeps you on the edge of your seat despite knowing who the bad guys are).

Hello all, I am happy to introduce my next multi-chap fic “Lovers Live and Die, Fortissimo”.

Are you interested in a modern theatre AU featuring an entirely overworked and overwhelmed stage manager Lucien? What about retired actor and now stage husband and father Rhysand? Featuring Azris (literally and figuratively) center stage, and a scandalous backstage polycule Feytamsand. Nessian, Elucien, Helion/LOA will also all make an appearance. Buckle up folks, this is going to be a ride. 

Why did famed union actor Eris Vanserra have a very public onstage breakdown? What happened between Rhysand and Tamlin to make them hate each other so much? Where the hell did new kids on the block Cassian and Azriel learn how to act? For answers to all of these questions and more, stay tuned for my next fic, which will include one chapter per song in the show for a grand total of 43. ok so we know that robin does drama club (stated in season 3) and eddie does drama club (jason wrote it on the list of places to find him). i think that (let’s pretend steve’s still in high school here, okay?) steve would decide to join drama club just bc his best friend is in it and also his crush. i think everyone would expect eddie to do backstage crew but no i have a headcanon that this mf is actually a god onstage and he would 110% be one of the leads. on the other hand, i DO believe that robin is backstage, as the badass surprisingly put together stage manager. although they tried to get steve to audition (”come ON if people see you’re in it they’ll all come see the show!”), he decides to help out backstage. he was assigned to be one of the crew members who helps with quick changes. now steve is not very put together and doing these fast changes under time constraints REALLY stresses him out, but there’s no way in hell he’s gonna back out, bc this mf got assigned to specifically help eddie munson with his quick changes. and although eddie ends up doing most of the work (not only is steve stressed, he’s changing the clothes of his crush), eddie wouldn’t pick someone else to change him worth anything bc “jesus CHRIST harrington I’M the one who’s supposed to be all sweaty from the stage lights and everything, the fuck is getting YOU so heated back here, big boy?”

i will be taking no critiques on this (but i will be taking opinions on whether or not i should make a one-shot of this)

thinking about an ml theatre company au… the Main Theatre Kids (felix, kagami, and zoe) ofc run the show. zoe is a lead actress, kagami is the stage manager, felix always auditions for the leading male but gets cast as the villain (he DOES always slay as the villain though). marinette is the head of costumes but is also an understudy bc she knows all the shows like the back of her hand. i feel like adrien prefers tech and being backstage more but whenever he does audition he immediately gets a lead. nino and alya work in the tech booth together, nino does sound and alya does lighting (and runs the company blog of course)

very ideal for cute adrienette antics where marinette has to fill in last minute as the leading female with adrien as the leading male and idk they have to kiss or something!!! also i just think felix kagami and zoe would be an unstoppable dynamic
