has anyone ever taken a moment to think how similar the construction of hamilton and jesus christ superstar are? the parallels between mary magdalene and eliza, and judas and burr when it comes to their relationship to the main character (jesus christ and alexander hamilton, respectively) are INSANE.

judas in heaven on their minds: if you strip away the myth from the man, you will see where we all soon will be. // burr in alexander hamilton: how does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a scotsman dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in the caribbean by providence, impoverished, in squalor, grow up to be a hero and a scholar?

we are first introduced to the main characters by their nemesis: judas and burr, who, right in the beginning of the show, take away all the glory build upon them.

mary magdalene in i don’t know how to love him: i don't know how to take this, i don't see why he moves me. // eliza in helpless: i'm helpless, down for the count and i'm drownin' in 'em.

both mary magdalene and eliza are caught off guard by their love for jesus christ and alexander, and are completely helpless since the start.

mary magdalene in everything’s alright: let the world turn without you tonight. // eliza in take a break: take a break, run away with us for the summer, let's go upstate.

mary magdalene and eliza are extremely caring and always show concern about jesus christ and alexander not taking a break. they know the power the man they love have, but are also aware of the destruction that can bring.

judas in damned for all time/blood money: it's taken me some time to work out what to do, i weighed the whole thing out before i came to you. // burr in your obedient servant: i am slow to anger, but i toe the line as i reckon with the effects of your life on mine.

judas and burr are very meticulous. they spend almost the entire show just studying the main character before coming to the conclusion that jesus christ and alexander are too dangerous with their words to keep on being free/alive.

mary magdalene in could we start again please: i've been living to see you, dying to see you, but it shouldn't be like this. this was unexpected, what do i do now? // eliza in who lives, who dies, who tells your story: and i'm still not through, i ask myself: what would you do if you had more time? the lord, in his kindness, he gives me what you always wanted, he gives me more time.

following the loss of the one they love, mary and eliza are left heartbroken and wondering what to do next. even after everything they went through, they remain kind, which i think is the most important characteristic in both of them.

judas in judas’ death: and i know who everybody's going to blame. i don't believe he knows i acted for our good, i’d save him all this suffering if i could. // burr in the world was wide enough: now i'm the villain in your history, i was too young and blind to see. i should've known the world was wide enough for both hamilton and me.

upon ending the main character’s life, judas and burr both realize that they where wrong in a way. neither take away what they thought of jesus christ and alexander, but they do regret taking their actions to the extreme.

these are only a few of the comparisons that can be drawn between these two shows, and im sure that if you look into it you can see a lot more similarities between other characters and songs. these were made based on how i see these stories, and in no way im saying im 100% correct about them, but i find this little theory of mine pretty interesting.
