Sorti en 1979, LE TROU NOIR de Gary Nelson est souvent très mal considéré par les fans du genre. Grosse production de Disney au budget colossal de quasi 20 millions de dollars, le film rapportera guère plus au box-office nord américain. À qui la faute ? Le casting est impeccable et c’est avec joie qu’on retrouve des pointures comme Anthony Perkins et Robert Forster dans des rôles assez marquants de scientifiques explorateurs face à un trou noir qui va les engloutir. Les effets spéciaux mélangent l’usage des maquettes traditionnelles et parfois d’images de synthèse très rares pour l’époque. La photographie et les décors sont très soignés. La mise en scène est fonctionnelle mais reste dans l’ensemble efficace. Le scénario n’est pas avare en idées originales pour l’époque comme la description fascinante d’un trou noir, un capitaine fou qui veut traverser cet antimatière pour devenir un dieu vivant etc. etc. Alors il est où le problème ? Le problème c’est que l’intrigue hésite toujours à emprunter le chemin d’une séance fiction assez Dark et une production familiale très Disney qui pompe allègrement des succès comme Star Wars par exemple avec l’utilisation de robots plutôt drôles mais souvent agaçants. Le long-métrage ne sait jamais quelle direction prendre et propose un spectacle très bancal. Pourtant j’aime ce film car je trouve dans l’ensemble le canevas assez intéressant et le spectacle plutôt digeste. On ne s’y ennuie pas et certaines séquences comme l’apparition des humanoïdes sont même assez effrayantes. Ok so this one is a real geeky niche post. When I was a kid I remember having two robot action figures from the movie The Black Hole (V.I.N.C.E.N.T. & B.O.B.). I don’t really remember much of the movie, but any sci-fi 70’s & 80’s robot when I was a kid fit in right at home. Sidebar - I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys (especially Bob) inspired Bob the Tomato from Veggie Tales. . Sadly, I’m not sure what happened to these guys.
