hi!! welcome to fic rec friday (i know it's tuesday that's my bad 💀). every week, i pick five fics i have bookmarked and rec them with a little review. check them out!

will 'problem causer and embarrassed about it' solace so so real. this fic is also stellar bc nico is lowkey aware how much will likes him. that is how the dynamic should be i think.

bruh this fic made me LAUGH. it wholly deserves the nearly quarter million hits it has jfc. i 100% clicked for the 'jason is a very embarrassing and very supportive ally' tag and it TOTALLY lived up and it was hilarious. he is. will's characterization was SO SO good and the whole fic just had me giggling!!

Everyone was afraid of him, the boy who could talk to ghosts. Will just really wanted to know if his goldfish was haunting him every time he used the bathroom. AU Solangelo.

i am a sucker for childhood friends to lovers alright. and modern au with medium nico is art. so what if it is on the nose. it is amusing. and posting this ghosty ass fic on halloween the year solangelo came out is fucking camp idc this author ate up.

will having a crush on nico for a thousand years is literally my favourite trope like i love him actually. his pining ass will never get old! it will never get old. i will never get tired of reading it. also this is unrelated but i read this for the first time the day it was posting, which was the Day after i turned twelve lol time truly flies.

It is beyond dumb and annoying as fuck when people look at characters who're in intergenerational friendships and immediately jump to pedopjacking the older character even if their dynamic is healthy because it blatantly overlooks WHY kids and adults being close friends can be bad.It's not a problem on it's own,the problem is a lot adults don't actually care about kids or are fucking ped0s and the solution isn't not let them interact except relatives fullstop,it's to teach younger how to identify predators so they can stay away from them and pretty much nobody who's insistent on the thing i'm talking about does it!In latino cultures like mine,it's normalized for children and older folks to be close even with no blood relations to form a stronger and safer community and it's also normalized to tell kids that it's wrong for adults to view them sexually(admitedly,this is sadly not universal but there's tons of latino regions where pedophiles are considered not people)

Kids and adults CAN have real friendships but it's important for the adults in them to establish proper boundries and not use the younger person as a therapist and in fact,it should be the other way around because it's the job of older people to be positive figures in younger ones lives they can count on and since i'm an eldest sibling who's always gotten along with their little siblings,i enjoy hanging out with and taking care of younger people and not expecting adult behavior from them because that's what my s/os and adult friends are for!It's also a personal thing for me because i got bullied growing up and had absolute ass adults all around me so this is my way of breaking the cycle of abuse by being the person for my bio siblings and my intergenerational friends i wished i'd have and i see the latter as my siblings too(and vice versa)since it's a culture thing i was raised in to see your friends as the same as family

'Why would an adult be close friends with a kid?That's weird!'Because kids are people with feelings and personalities of their own and not 'puritans' or 'stupid' or 'losers' or 'taking up space' or 'should know better even if they weren't taught better' and some of us reacted to experiencing child abuse by growing up to care about kids because we were once them too and the fact that you'd rather believe nobody could ever love a child in a familial way without abusive intentions says a lot about you with how you treat them in general,hope this fucking helps bitch!!!!

The interesting thing about Jiang Cheng is that he refuses to be his mother's golden child to Wei Wuxian's scapegoat; he actively chooses Wei Wuxian again and again. He defends Wei Wuxian from her until she dies. It's unusual.

This doesn't mean that Wei Wuxian's experience was any less fraught--being hated by a caretaker is awful even if everyone else loves you. But it was an interesting choice by MXTX.

no but really it's funny sam thinks dean is john 2.0 when s1 dean is just. content to take on random cases and help save some people and is trying to do some good w/ the hand he's been dealt and isn't all that interested in his father's revenge quest and up until then has always had to play the mediator and swallow down his own feelings and anger. while sam's the one who quickly becomes obsessed w/ revenge the minute he loses jess and finding the thing that killed her and is quick to anger. "you're more like him than i'll ever be" "i'll take that as a compliment" "you can take that however you like" etc etc

Tired Cryo Dads: Klee and Freminet edition. 3/8

Klee helps get Freminet out of his shell by dragging him into shenanigans from time to time, the spunky spark knight has a knack for getting people to open up without really realizing it.

Freminet doesn’t really mind, but good lord does he have so much anxiety (until Klee is in trouble, then he’s pulling out his claymore and kicking ass)

The first time Freminet starts to feel overwhelmed and puts on his diving helmet, Klee is very confused

He explains the feeling by comparing it to when he found her when she was lost

(“You mean when I was surrounded by fish and couldn’t see?” “A little like that, yeah, mostly when it gets too loud.” “I’m a little confused, but it makes sense! Lisa tells me the same on the days she can’t play, sometimes the knights get too loud and she closes the library for the day.” After Klee will giggle and tell him on those days, she’s the only one Lisa will allow in the library because she can be suuupppeerr quiet)

When Freminet starts feeling a little too overwhelmed, Klee will make sure to find a quiet space where she can play with Dodoco while he puts on his diving helmet for quiet time

Just like with Albedo, she likes to help him add expressions on his helmet display

She likes to say it’s Freminet’s way to talk without words, wordless conversation if you will

They both bond over having a stuffed animal to keep them company and let the other look after it, if they go off to do something that would put the stuffie in position to get lost easily.

It isn’t uncommon to see Freminet hand over Percy to Klee for safekeeping before a deep dive

One day Lyney saw and his fucking jaw dropped bc omg his little brother found someone he trusts enough to keep Percy safe, and yes, it may be a child, but he found a friend.

Occasionally, Freminet will bring Klee to watch Lyney’s and Lynette’s magic rehearsals with him, and the twins absolutely adore them both

(they need their approval for a good show…they also call them both their good luck charms and invite them to every show).

Klee is extremely entertained, especially when the twins take Dodoco (with permission) and Percy and do magic tricks with them. Klee will laugh and clap at the show and tell them they're the best

Freminet will shyly tell Klee his siblings are the best magic performers around

Lyney actually cries at the praise, and Lynette will hide her blush behind her hat.

The last ask really got me thinking abt Drayton and Iris now bc I have not stopped thinking abt Iris being the older one in my hcs PLEASE LISTEN TO ME THIS HAS PLAGUED MY MIND WHILE I WAS WORKING

Cause y'know, in my hcs if Iris is the older one then she is at least three years older than Drayton, so when Iris was taken in by Drayden, Drayton was around 2 at most, so for almost all his life, Iris had been around, his big sis, his playmate when they were younger, his mentor alongside their grandfather, she was like a role model to him

But also, Iris being a prodigy kinda messed w him a bit, cause she did so well w battles, she's already a strong trainer since she was young, at 12 she became Opelucid's Gym Leader, then a year later she became Unova's Champion, probably it's longest running Champion too present time

And he, well, he had to redo his second year at school, but he had smth at least, he became the champion of the school's own league, the BB league, he was proud of it, and Iris was proud of him when he became the school's Champion, and that was one of the highest praises he got. Ofc, his sister, who's the region's champion, being so proud of him for being his own school's champion, for being the strongest trainer in the academy, ofc he ate it up. At least someone was proud of him.

It would also be cool but also low-key sad if you squint if Iris actually trained Drayton more than Drayden trained him. And not like Drayden neglected him, ofc not, but Iris just had more time to do so since Drayden was also busy w being mayor of the city and being its Gym Leader. Sharing the champion title, Iris at least didn't have to worry much when she's not at the league, bc Hilbert can cover for her, so during her spare time, she trains Drayton

And idk it would make a bit of sense, he's good at battling, before Kieran really went above and beyond w his own training, Drayton was considered the strongest at the academy, he is Champion level, was a Champion, bc he was trained by a Champion

But also it would be funny since they look nothing alike that when Drayton talks abt her, people would be all "your sis sounds cool, but who is she anyways?"

"My sis? Wow, you really don't know her? You live under a rock or something?" Then he laughs and just "my sister, Iris, she's the Champion. Surely you know her. Who doesn't?"

"CHAMPION IRIS??? YOU TWO LOOK NOTHING ALIKE THO???"

"yes we do, look at the purple streak on my hair. It's the same shade as hers."

Yknow I think a common mischaracterisation of Harumi is literally that people think Garmadon actually adopted her and acted like a father figure to her. If anything it was more like the other way round.

Garmadon was the one guided by Harumi, he wasn’t really independent and she overall held the power until partway through the season.

#this is why I’m a bit iffy on the Lloyd Harumi are related angle #because it necessitates we mischaracterise Harumi and Garmadon’s dynamic #I’m not against lloyd and Harumi having a sibling dynamic as a concept #but it has to be in the context of some rewrite or fanon yknow #sometimes when people see dynamics they try and make it found family but really genetically #like not every dynamic between an older male and a younger character is a fatherly bond #maybe we are just a bit fatherless idk #but like fr sometimes relationships are unique and can’t be easily categorised #but either way I saw a few posts a while back arguing that Garmadon and Harumi’s dynamic was toxic #and they were right #like that wasn’t healthy for either of them really #tbh I still don’t like how Harumi was written it was rlly inconsistent imo and Garmadon could’ve been done better #ninjago #ninjago harumi #ninjago garmadon #i diagnose all of us with fatherlessness #i think I’m allowed to say that bc I’m fatherless for real life

Nancy, okay so if I ever seem like I’m a bit harsher on Nancy than one would otherwise be it’s because I generally don’t like characters like her. That’s just flat-out like from the jump here are things that she’s done that have rubbed me the wrong why. I know most of them have explanations, but for the sake of my sanity I’m not judging that I’m just judging the actions as they are.

1) Insults her little brother’s missing friend because she wants to go hang out with her current boyfriend.

2) She cheats and like this is huge to me. Normally I can’t stand characters who cheat at all ever and it’s literally coming from a place of being unsatisfied. It just drives me insane.

3) As an older sister she doesn’t really do it for me. Mainly I’m upset that she seems to have very little regard for Mike during actual moments of danger, outside of their initial reunion in season one, and is very often leaving him with some other kids without protection.

Like it’s amazing that I don’t hate her. Anyone else and the cheating would’ve taken me out immediately, unless I didn’t catch it. A good chunk of my annoyance might just be for the narratives refusal to call Nancy out so far though.
