Unsure if you’ve answered this anywhere before (sorry if you have!) but! what are your thoughts on Lanolin if you’ve been keeping up with IDW?
Lanolin's been kind of a fascinating addition to the cast to me, now that she's been promoted to the main cast. I kind of love that Lanolin is unambiguously one of the heroes, but she's also, like... not very nice? But she's also not an antihero like Shadow. She's just a different type of hero than most of Sonic's friends. It would have been so easy to just make her the cute friendly sheep girl, but I think she's led to some really interesting internal and external conflicts by having such a different mindset from everyone else.
Sonic is a very Power Of Friendship type series, and most of the recurring heroes are friends with each other. IDW's heroes have slotted right into that. Tangle wants to be everyone's friend. Whisper is extremely introverted due to her past, but the point is to show her making new friends. Belle's in a similar boat. And Jewel got roped into the series because she was already Tangle's best friend.
And then you've got Lanolin, who's not really here to make friends. She's here to work. She wants to do good in the world, which is why she joined the Restoration... and then the Metal Virus Saga happened. Now she's tired and kind of jaded about all of it. She's a cog in the machine whose power is limited, having neither crazy superpowers like Sonic's friends nor any real structural power within the Restoration. So where Tangle wants to go on fun adventures and Whisper's (understandably) weighed down by her personal vendetta with Mimic, Lanolin is this third wheel who doesn't particularly care about any of that and just wants to keep the team focused on doing their job.
I can kind of understand why some might be put off by this new dynamic if they were fans of the way Tangle and Whisper operated before. But personally, I think it shakes things up in a really interesting way. I could easily see a world where Mimic's return felt like a retread of the Tangle & Whisper miniseries, but Lanolin has helped push things in a new direction. She feels like our representative of the rank and file grunts of the Restoration, and the embodiment of the responsibilities that being part of the Restoration entail. Tangle and Whisper can't just go off and do their own thing all the time anymore. For Tangle especially, it feels like the formation of the new Diamond Cutters is forcing her to grow up a little. The Restoration can't always just be this fun secret club where she gets to go on adventures with her girlfriend. It's a job.
But Lanolin's not infallible, of course. She's frequently wrong, and that leads to conflict. But I understand where she's coming from and why she is the way she is, and that makes her an interesting contrast to everyone else. She's also clearly still growing as a character, and learning how to work as a team without just seeing Tangle and Whisper as people to boss around. I'm sure that whenever she learns that Whisper really was right about Duo being Mimic in disguise, that's going to be a BIG moment for Lanolin, and I'm excited to see how that informs her continued evolution as a character.

'During the press tour for the final season of Star Trek: Picard, the former cast of The Next Generation cited one reason the former felt different from the latter. In Picard, the characters have personal conflict, something they allege was forbidden in TNG stories. Called "The Roddenberry Box" by The Next Generation writers and cast, it was either a bold attempt at storytelling or an obstacle to drama. [...]
The Roddenberry Box was less about petty, personal conflicts between the characters and more about the kind of teamwork that eluded those who shaped their stories. The key term here is "petty." Roddenberry didn't want Riker jealous of Deanna Troi's partners or Geordi La Forge sabotaging the Enterprise-D's Chief Engineer because he wanted his job. There could be conflict; it just had to be earned. Season 2's "The Measure of a Man" included plenty of conflict between Starfleet officers, including members of the crew. Data is put on trial to determine whether he is actually "alive," and Will Riker has to prosecute the case. In one scene, he shuts Data off like an old radio.
Rather than limiting the potential for conflict and drama, the Roddenberry Box was meant to ensure the conflict mattered. Starfleet officers are supposed to be the best at all times. So, even though Riker personally believed Data was a sentient being, he had to effectively argue that he wasn't. Beyond the external, this creates internal conflict for Riker, who is torn between duty and friendship. That's much more interesting than if Riker simply didn't like Data or had some grudge against him. It's also arguably why The Next Generation's cast became so universally beloved by the fans. [...]
In asserting TNG stories all fit in the Roddenberry Box, the visionary creator wanted to show the continued evolution of humanity. The forbidden kind of interpersonal conflicts would have cheapened the characters, even if they learned an important lesson at the end of the episode.'

Aisha: The Thesis
I don’t know if I have to keep saying this but SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE FUCKING REWRITE UP TIL THE CURRENT CHAPTER (S4 CH 14)
First Things First
The very first words on Aisha’s character sheet are: Sporty, socially awkward dancer
I feel like it’s a bit difficult to explain my thought process when it comes to Aisha. I think most of us can agree she was def the most interesting and most fleshed out in the OG, from her badass intro to her backstory and storyline in s2, she was a young girl who ran from home to avoid being isolated and was loyal to the point of risking her life to save her pixie friends.
Something that was very important to me was showcasing Aisha as being socially awkward and having a hard time believing people like her due to her trauma, years of isolation and never really having friends her own age. Her main relations up til this point have been with Nabu (who she stopped seeing when she was about eight and never really knew), Anne (who she fell for but abruptly stopped seeing when she was twelve) and the pixies (who aren’t human and therefore can’t really give Aisha the experience of having very relatable friends)
Due to all this, an important focus for me in s2 was showing Aisha as feeling like an outsider, she’s not only new to an already very clearly established group who already fought a war together, but she doesn’t really know how to become part of the group and isn’t always sure whether she’s intruding or not.
I tried to show how her integration to the group is kinda slow, giving her a pre-established friendship with Helia so the two could bond over being the new kids and having her first bonds be with Flora and Brandon.
She doesn’t really feel like a part of the group until the girls’ make a mock welcome-to-the-Winx ceremony that they don’t realize is so very important to Aisha because she’s never been part of a group like this before.
^ All of that makes for someone who is incredibly loyal to her friends, everyone in the Winx is very loyal but for Aisha specifically it goes even deeper in the sense that, these aren’t just her best friends, they’re her first friends, the first people that ever made her feel accepted and safe and didn’t vanish on her.
Imposter Syndrome say What?
Imposter Syndrome is a real thing and Aisha suffers real badly because of it. This is smth I’m exploring in her arc during S4: Generation Why (Talk About How Fast We Grew). This affects her in 2 main ways-
She feels like she isn’t a real part of the squad after the confrontation with the Ancestral Witches back in s3 finale (I’ll talk a bit more about that in a moment)
She feels like she won’t be a good queen and often compares herself to Stella and Sky who’ve gotten more experience in that aspect. Aisha can feel suffocated by the thought of some day becoming the queen of Andros, even if she loves her planet, being ruler seems like smth that would take away most of her freedom, which is pretty much her biggest nightmare.
Now, I’ll take a moment here to say that I feel like I haven’t given Aisha the attention that she deserves due to s2 being when she’s introduced and s3 having so much PLOT going on that the character arcs got slightly lost for most of the squad. In S4 I want to redeem this cause my girl deserves some more focus. I will say that the Generation Why arc won’t be the beginning and end of Aisha’s evolution in s4, though it will have a pretty big impact on how she views certain things.
If I’m All I Have, That’s Enough
One of my fave moments in the entire rewrite, is Aisha’s fight against fake-Anne (the Ancestral Witches) where, as the Witches try to convince Aisha that the squad doesn’t truly care for her and only friends with her out of pity, Aisha makes it very clear that, even if that were true, she’d still fight for herself. Because she knows she’s someone who deserves to be fought for and protected.
But even if no one missed her… Aisha would not give up on herself.
She had been alone most of her life, which meant she’d had to take care of herself. And she wasn’t done doing that.
Maybe she still wasn’t all that comfortable in her own skin. Maybe she was still figuring out who she was and what she wanted. Maybe she still doubted herself and the way others viewed her sometimes.
…but that was okay.
She didn’t need to have everything figured out to know that she wanted to live.
If not to see her friends again… then just for herself.
Because she wanted to meet the person she would become someday.
Because the twelve-year old Aisha she’d once been had deserved to be protected. Just as her future and present self deserved that too.
So if no one was there to save her… then she’d save herself… for herself.
I really wanted to send a message that, while a lot of media will give someone with low self esteem some other motivation to fight for themselves, I really wanted to have Aisha fight for herself, to see that, if no one would fight for herself, she herself would still do it.
It’s a bit hard to phrase but I do think it’s been one of the most beautiful moments in the whole rewrite and while yes, Aisha still doubts herself and her place in the group, she doesn’t doubt that she wants to keep going and that she will fight for who she was, who she is and who she will someday become.
This kinda manifests in her finally standing her ground against her mom and making her see that all the shit she put her through in her childhood was wrong and only affected her in a negative way. It also manifests in her immediately feeling like she was exaggerating (pesky intrusive thoughts) and having to be pulled out of spiraling by Nabu.
I’m really excited to finally give her a bit more attention in s4, beyond just the current arc.
You Can’t Spell Lonesome Without Me
I feel like I’m bouncing all over the place with this thesis but just bare with me please.
Aisha’s main trait as a character is loneliness. She’s been isolated most of her life and, thanks to intrusive thoughts and imposter syndrome, her brain will make her feel alone and like she isn’t a real part of the group, which of course leads her to sometimes be lonely even when she’s with the other girls.
Because you don’t heal from that shit in just one year.
I really wanted this for Aisha cause it’s smth I myself struggle with due to some… really bitchy behavior from certain ‘friends’ in middle school, to this day it will take me 6 months to truly believe someone likes me and isn’t annoyed at spending time with me. I’m in college and middle school still haunts me, so I think it’s only realistic for Aisha to not instantly heal from what was probably an even worse situation.
Her loneliness is one of your brain constantly sabotaging you even when you’re happy with the friend group you currently have.
Thoughts Behind her Main Relationships
Flora: They are best friends, and their friendship is one of softness and comfort. They’ve both dealt with extreme loneliness and have both felt like not-quite-part-of-the-group at some point or another even if it’s for different reasons.
They have a perfect introvert/extrovert balance and are the best at bringing the other out of their respective comfort zones without making it feel forced or pushy.
Their friendship is midnight tea and sitting on balconies looking at the stars and dancing on the beach and cuddling after nightmares and doing each other’s hair and helping each other forget the pain and remember why they love life.
I feel like their friendship can be hard to explain because their friendship is one of quiet moments, of comfort and softness and the little things. It’s the flowers in Aisha’s sweaters and the seashells on Flora’s necklaces. It’s the comfortable silence and the random dance parties.
Nabu: Something I really wanted to do with this relationship was have Nabu kinda help Aisha heal her inner child. When he reveals his identity, they’re playing on a see-saw, they talk while sitting on swings, they run around the beach kicking water up at each other.
Nabu lets her act like a kid, something Aisha never really got to do thanks to her mom. He lets her feel like she can be childish and embarrassing cause she knows he won’t make her feel bad for it. They feel safe around the other, enough to act however they want to.
Another big thing in their relationship was trust and open communication, their situation is slightly awkward due to having an arranged marriage in their future, Aisha questions both their feelings, if they truly fell for each other or if they were just taking the convenient way out. Nabu is very clear that that isn’t the case and that’s what allows their relationship to flourish.
Going to Nabu is really one of the first times Aisha allows herself to go after something she truly wants, contributing to her coming into her own person.
Brandon: So, I would say Brandon might be Aisha’s first deep connection in the squad along with Flora. Brandon kinda sees right through Aisha and her self-doubt and he’s the one that really helps her start coming out of her shell.
The two are massive extroverts and love any and all outdoors activities, and they bond massively over this, constantly going for hikes, skateboarding or trying out new things.
And yes… Aisha does have a bit of a crush on Brandon at first, due to him kinda being the first guy she connects with in her teenage years, and him being… well… Brandon. While she never makes advances or even thinks about it (cause she would never do that to Stella) this does make her feel like an actual teenager, since she never really got the experience of having a silly little teenage crush.
The two are very close and, since both are very touchy people, it does contribute to the crush. Once the crush phase passes, Aisha sees him as a platonic soulmate, the two have a lot in common but wouldn’t ever really work as a couple cause they have too much in common. They are very supportive of one another and just really get one another.
Who is Aisha in this Rewrite?
Aisha is a young woman learning to be comfortable in her skin and to live and fight for herself.
She’s an incredibly loyal friend who struggles with imposter syndrome and intrusive thoughts. She’s working through that and trying to stop feeling like an outsider.
Aisha is someone who spent most of her life in isolation and wishing to run away, to be free. She’s someone who’s learning and embracing a new meaning of freedom and who is trying to come into her own in a way she can be proud of and that won’t restrict her freedom or make her go back to the lonely girl she once was.
Aisha is someone who, even at her darkest times, will fight for herself.

cant believe i havent seen anyone do this yet but. riptide pokemon au. heres my fucking thoughts
gillion's team is a solid mixture of electric, ice and water types. probably something built for competitive play but i aint that kinda smart so idk. BUT i do know his ace is a gyarados
gil's team was given to him by the elders over the years, and he was trained to be the best pokemon battler of the undersea
despite being told not to, gil is very close with his pokemon. he has a soft spot for all of them and can't Not be empathetic for them. theyre his babies :)
pretzel is a clobbopus. i know theyre not pink but listen. its literally a punching octopus. its also the cutest octopus pokemon LOL
pre-character arc gillion has a one track mind for competition Only. he loves his pokemon but they are also his weapons, in a way
as he spends more time in the oversea he adopts a more relaxed team. theyre still extremely strong and he still has his competitive pokemon but he stops caring about their stats and movepool and starts caring more about their personalities and bonding with them
chip didnt have any pokemon until he joined the black rose, where arlin gifts him an eevee
after the hole in the sea, it's just him and eevee against the world
his eevee refuses to evolve - especially during his time with price's gang, but even afterwards when theyre by themselves on the ocean eevee won't evolve
chip had his heart set on being a water type trainer, like arlin was, so he tries to convince eevee to evolve into a vaporeon. this is a running bit
its also a running bit that the team chip builds are all different types and use different strategies. members of the crew are pokemon btw i think gryffon is a pangoro LOL
his eevee is a little SHIT just in general. has cute privilege and knows it.
when gil is trapped in the dunjon, instead of taking his sword chip starts using his pokemon. he discovers that water types never really were his thing, after all.
its here, where chips at his lowest in a long time, demotivated and thinking of leaving his crew behind, that eevee evolves. into an umbreon - a dark type, but also a friendship evolution.
it evolves to show him that someone does care, that someone does want him around - his oldest friend, his pokemon.
chip learns to use all his pokemon to their greatest ability. i think he would have a bias for fire and dark types, but he becomes a well rounded and skilled pokemon trainer
jayjay! the ferins have a tradition where they breed their corviknights and pass the rookidees down to their kids. family pokemon :)
ava happens to get a shiny rookidee! she gets her rookidee right when she joins the navy and starts working under her father
this rookidee is...very nervous. greyhound energy. it's a shy little thing that has trouble battling and is very attached to ava and her little sister jay
ava takes the time to work through rookidee's issues and try and build it's confidence, jay acting as babysitter when ava is away at sea
at some point, after rookidee evolves into corvisquire, ava never comes home.
this ofc fucks with both jay and corvisquire. it puts corvisquire's training back by a lot and leaves jay grieving and angry
once she leaves with chip, she takes corvisquire with her. its too scared to battle and needs to be on or near her at all times, but it's a piece of her sister jay can't bring herself to leave behind.
jay ends up building a flying/steel type team, with corviknight growing and gaining its confidence as a pirate pokemon rather than a navy pokemon
its still got mega separation anxiety tho. it wears a nervous dog vest LOL
if anyone has anything to add i am all ears i fuckignlove my sillies and i love pokemon so. woe

In the Pokémon XY(Z) anime, I think that Tierno should have been the Pokémon performer out of the Kalos friends. I think he should have been Serena’s rival, instead of or with Shauna.
On one hand, Shauna’s great and fine, ya know? She was alright! But just Fine. I would like her more if she was there more.
On the other hand, Tierno’s personality is dancer. He is literally a DANCERRRRR. His Pokémon are DANCERS. It was his entire thing in the games (the source material) and even in the anime because of his battling style. And I get it, girl power and stuff. I loved the female solidarity in the master class, ya know? Girls supporting girls, even when competing, which is why I sorta would still like Shauna there (or give the other girls attention, god bless /lh). But as far fetched and/or impossible as it is for the anipoke writers (/lh again), I would have adored seeing a boy in that setting. A boy unabashedly passionate about performing in a sphere that’s female dominated and being just as supportive and positive. Being totally unashamed. I think that would be so cool.
It would have made his crush make more sense too, honestly, or just add some more charm to it. It wasn’t hindering the show because it didn’t come up often, just hindered his character because it came up when he was there. But imagine it developed as she grew into being a confident performer. Don’t even make the crush reciprocated, it still could have been cuter this way.
AND WHILE IM AT IT, because I just thought of this while writing, if I were in charge of the writing with my current mindset and understanding: Change up the counterparts for the trios.
Make Tierno and Serena each others’ counterparts, and change the others along with it.
I think it’s safe to say Trevor and Clemont were kinda~ counterparts, just the least developed of them (brainiacs, both seem to have some type of anxiety, not neurotypical IN THE SLIGHTEST, etc.). I think that Trevor and Ash could have been fun. Trevor was the member of the Kalos rival trio to master Mega Evolution, and he also battled in the League. In the games, he has a crisis about his own strength and doubts his abilities as a trainer because he has end goals different from other trainers. I just KNOW Ash would have been the best rival and friend to help him through that. Trevor has an affinity for taking photographs of Pokémon, pointing out the differences and rarities in them, and seeking out the legendaries Ash has met and battled before. And Ash, mister nomad with such love for the world around him, I think, would find a lot of interest in that and support it. Plus, Trevor has Charizard. Ash’s ace used to be Charizard. They could have bonded, they could have been incredible.
And that leaves Clemont and Shauna. And what do ya know?? Clemont and Shauna are EXPLICITLY FRIENDS in the games! It didn’t click with me until I started ranting about Tierno and Serena, but CLEMONT AND SHAUNA ARE CANONICALLY BUDDY BUDDY IN THE SOURCE MATERIAL (I get that Shauna is super friendly with Serena in the games as well, but you know what I mean). The device Shauna uses to break into the final chamber of Team Flare’s secret lab was a gift from Clemont. In the beginning of the game, Shauna knows little to nothing about being a trainer, but when she gets to Lumiose City and sees the gym leader and his little sister outside the gym, she recognizes them by face and exclaims “Those two are my friends! :D” It would have been fun seeing an unlikely friendship develop between the scientist who thinks he’s got his future figured out and the trainer with no set path who’s striving to love life as it is in the present.
Do you see the vision?

um....if you want to think abt a Pokémon team for arjuna I'm all ears (I made one once but I'd like to hear thoughts from someone else)
YESSSS!
so first off, to talk about his nature as a trainer, i think he would be a trainer trying to compete in battle ranking AND perform in contests (with a specialty for beauty contests). I think him splitting his attention a bit thin and trying to be the absolute best at everything fits him too well.
Tumblr media
I want the split of attention to be a bit visible here, he's essentially got half of a water team for contests that all can utilize the rain, and his other half is much more battle focused. I also made a point to pick umbreon and lucario because theyre friendship evolutions, i feel arjuna would be very doting and so pokemon who need that support to evolve would be good fits for him.
some individual notes:
i feel like decidueye is just one of those pokemon tailor made for him, aesthetics and personality wise. definitely his very first pokemon. and they both puff up their feathers to look cool and intimidating but then say/do something cute/goofy and the appearance immediately falls off.
im sure he got a feebas with the idea in his head that milotic are ideal for beauty contests, but he also doesnt fuck around and ends up going through a month's paycheck in one night just to make the perfect pokeblocks for them
i imagine originally he planned to evolve his eevee into a vaporeon but woke up in the middle of the night to a little guy. loved him too much on accident, many such cases. (it was a tough pick actually between umbreon or espeon, and i chose umbreon in the end for arjunas association with nighttime in fgo (his NP bg most notably))
lapras was a double pick for being able to surf without getting wet and to be part of of his beauty routines, focusing on ice. I imagine the lapras he gets is kind of an older one thats just eternally calm and unshakable, but also loves to strut their stuff.
for kingdra i imagine he actually wanted to start branching into cute contests with a horsea, but the little thing was so battle hungry its a bully of a kingdra now. still in contests with a sharp and show-off attitude!
lucario was a pick to compliment the choice of decidueye, theyre both cool looking warrior-types and i was also focused on them because of the friendship evolution. i imagine his lucario is always striving for more and constantly picking fights to get just a tiiiiny bit more training in. and the reason arjuna has a pocket dimension of hyper potions in his bag.

Hello! So the short version is: do you or anyone else have advice/tips on writing friendship that evolves into a qpr?
More details: I have a story with a large ensemble cast which are all varying degrees of good friends with each other, but I have two specifically (both female, one is aroace and the other is demi) that begin as just friends but I want to have them end up in a queer-platonic relationship by the end of the story (living together by the ending, and years later in the epilogue raising/having raised two children together.) What I’d like tips on is how to realistically/convincingly write that evolution from friends to more without it accidentally straying too far into looking romantic? (If it matters, this is all in a fantasy medieval setting, but homophobia isn’t widespread just to make my life easier.)
Queerplatonic Life Partners
What you're looking to portray here is a "platonic life partnership" or PLP, or more specifically, a "queerplatonic partnership" or QPP.
Life partnerships are similar to romantic partnerships in that they choose one another as lifelong partners, are deeply committed to that partnership, and do many of the things romantic partners do, just without any romance or s*x. They often live together, share property and possessions, share finances, raise children and/or animals together, and sometimes even marry.
PLPs and QPPs are different from just a "close friendship" because the partnership involves the commitment, validation, structure, norms, profound emotional connection, and even status that exists with romantic partnerships--again, just without the romance and s*x.
To write the evolution of this type of relationship:
1- Establish/Evolve the Friendship - How do they meet? What is their first interaction? What commonalities sparks a kinship between them? What do they like about one another that makes them want to be friends?
2 - Establish/Evolve the Bond - As they continue to meet up and interact, how do their shared commonalities inspire them to share more about themselves? What memories, hopes, fears, dreams, and beliefs are shared that help them get to know each other? What situations can give them reasons to put their trust in one another and start relying on one another?
3 - Discovery of Mutual Ideology and Life Goals - The most important element of a PLP and QPP is that the couple discovers that they share a mutual ideology and life goals. In other words, they have the same mindset in terms of how they want to live their lives and what they want to do with their lives. So, what are the ideologies they share? What small and big life goals to they have in common? How do they discover that they have these ideologies and goals in common? Where are the differences and how do they accommodate those?
4 - The Dreaming and Planning Stage - Once they realize they want the same things, they'll make the commitment to follow that path side by side. Now they can dream together of the possibilities and start planning. Depending on where they are currently, this may be as far as things can go for now, though part of their commitment will be helping each other get to the point where their dreams and plans can be brought to fruition.
5 - The Pieces Fall Into Place - If the story is about the setup and creation of this mutual life they're going to share, you will show all the pieces falling into place as they accomplish each step to make that life a reality. Or, if your story is about something else, you might not focus on the actual achievements but either have them happening in the background, or even have them occur off the page between the denouement and the epilogue. It just depends on what works best for your story, but if you have the ability to show them living this happy life together, you definitely should. Otherwise, you can project it for the reader by having them daydream about how things will be. In some cases, you might even work in an actual dream one of the characters has about living in that time when they are sharing the life they dreamed of. Again whatever works for your story!
Bonus - The Ups and Downs - Even without romance and s*x, PLPs and QLPs experience some of the same ups and downs as romantic partnerships, they're just not motivated by romance and s*x. But there can be ups and downs related to finances, conflicting goals and ideals, disagreement about how things should be done, triumphs of successes and disappointment in failures, arguments over silly things and fights over big things, and unbridled joy in the happy moments. So, make sure to include those every step of the way, from the meeting to the pieces falling into place.
Most of all--have fun with it! ♥

the difference between when scully is kidnapped in lazarus vs by duane barry early in season two is wild.
you can see his worry & how he’s a bit withdrawn, and his determination to find her. he shows his skills in handling these kinds of cases. but i also think it’s clear he doesn’t carry real guilt about her being taken.
where with duane barry, he’s desperate. the lengths he went to, with krycek screwing up his ascent to the mountain, is insane! like impressive & crazy & amazing. he was just barely too late. but he has her necklace & her faith and he’s grasping at his own belief which is harder to keep without her there now.
they were already dedicated partners, but it’s clear how much closer they became in the span of a few months between these incidents. they lose the x files but still find ways to work together. they have clandestine meetings. they don’t lose their partnership. scully doesn’t give up on him when his depression is so palpable. she knows because he didn’t even see her in the hall that time. and he always sees her.
duane barry threatened everything they had. their partnership, their friendship, scully’s life — mulder’s life by extension. he had no one to help him through this, because she was the one who started getting him through everything. even his past grief. and that’s when mrs. scully became a lifeline. someone to share in his desperation & grief. and magically (to him), she didn’t blame him for her daughter’s abduction. at the same time, he was a lifeline for her. but it was difficult to keep maggie’s faith that she would come back. i think her giving up felt like a nail in the coffin to him. but having someone else’s belief to push against bolstered him. and then she comes back. battered, bruised, near death. and he falls back on the only thing he can hold onto. avenging her. until melissa tears him to shreds. because that isn’t what scully needs, and he takes the chance on melissa’s beliefs. because scully loves her so much (idolizes her) and melissa loves dana so much and these scully women know how to bring out the best in him with their blunt forceful honesty & seeing right through him. they know the good, sweet, caring man he is whether he purposely showed them or not.
anyway. all that to say, i love the evolution of their relationship. even so early on, the other’s safety is paramount to their own peace of mind and holding onto their beliefs and fighting the fight & the truth they pursue for such similar yet still different reasons.

Holy shit, that took a turn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and God.
Frustrating as the arc's been up to this point, the emotional confrontation hits. I was not prepared for this sharp turn into solid drama.
I think this is why Sigh ramped up the Mikuru bits. They took too long getting to this point (unsurprising in the same season that gave us Eternal Eight) but I get it now. Haruhi's always been the show's main point of conflict but this arc pushes her into full-blown villainy.
Tumblr media
There is a point being made here. Courtesy of the group enabling her behavior, Haruhi is getting worse. She started out a selfish, violent misanthrope and now she's getting worse because her actions don't have consequences.
This is the reason, the exact reason, why she can't be allowed to know that her will governs the universe. Filming this movie allowed Haruhi to play God, and gave everyone a real taste of the kind of God she would be.
(I love how ugly her expressions get to be here. Animation quality through the roof for the sake of thoroughly animating the contortions of her face as she scowls furiously and screams her head off at Kyon. For daring to have a problem with her drugging Mikuru.)
It gets so bad that Kyon almost does it. He almost starts The Fight He Can't Win that he's threatened a few times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And. They. Stop. Him.
Even Haruhi's victim stops him.
He can't hit her. They have to let her do what she wants. Because she's God.
This has been the ominous reality in the background for the whole show up to this point, but here it's really laid out there. How truly, genuinely horrifying this reality is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Screw you. Mikuru deserves better friends. You're on the Shit List, Tsuruya.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yo, Itsuki just posted his latest Anime Theory about what's going on in the show.
New possibility: Maybe Haruhi isn't God, but rather a divinely chosen human tasked with reshaping the world from the shitsack that it is into something more favorable. And we're the ones selfishly blocking her from her duty so we can continue to linger in the world we like better.
I like how the show doesn't conclusively explain Haruhi. She's a time anomaly. She's the key to cosmic evolution. She's God. She's a miraculous prophet. It's all presented as theories and suppositions by various characters, with no concrete answer ever given.
Because "What is she?" ultimately only matters for academic purposes. We would like an answer so we can type it up for her wiki page. But it's not what the story's about.
What she is doesn't matter. That she is, is what matters. The consequences of her choices matter more than where she came from. She doesn't need to be explained. She's a Weird Cosmic Thing that happened one day in a great and unfathomable cosmos that owes you no answers. We can only observe her and try to make our best guesses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now she's suffering consequences.
It's not fair that these people have to bend over backwards for her. It's not fair that the fate of the universe rests on the entertainment squad jangling keys in front of her for the rest of her life. Haruhi was born into the ultimate privilege.
But that is what is. And you have to live in the world that is, even as you work to make it better or keep it from getting worse.
I don't think Kyon did anything wrong here. For once. Haruhi's depressed and... that's concerning, of course. Gonna want to cheer her up before she decides she doesn't like this world anymore or that Kyon and his stupid face should go away.
But someone had to speak up. That Haruhi cares what this trash boy thinks means he is uniquely positioned to tell her off when she goes too far. Which he often does but... this time it actually got through. Because it wasn't just a snippy comment; It was a screaming match that nearly became a fistfight. It was friendship destroying.
God. I relate to this so hard. I have been her. She needed to learn that she can be hurt by the consequences of her choices. Even if that hurt was, in this case, more emotional than physical.
She needed to lose something. Even if only for a day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like that Kyon doesn't apologize here. Because he isn't wrong. He doesn't offer her forgiveness because that would undo any personal progress she might have made from questioning herself.
Look at the vulnerability in her eyes as she turns to look at him, before her confident mask slips back on. She's been thinking. She's been experiencing the post-eruption regrets and doubts that always sink in after you lose your head.
People who haven't wrestled with anger management might not know what it's like. But this is how it goes. You scream. And you hurt the people you love. And you storm off. And then you break down and cry and ask yourself why you just did that, why you keep doing that. Why does every relationship end like this? That is what a meltdown is like.
She isn't mad. She wants to be mad. She tries to be mad when he walks in. But she isn't mad. She's scared. Scared that her selfishness destroyed a relationship she'd been taking for granted. And that's a good thing for her to feel. That is the feeling that is going to guide her to better behavior.
Haruhi needed this.
So it's good that Kyon doesn't apologize. Instead, he takes a diplomatic approach, not invalidating what just happened between them but conveying to Haruhi that he is still willing to be her friend. He doesn't offer forgiveness. He offers a second chance to be better.
I don't know if the show will stick this, or if she'll be right back to over-the-top abusing Mikuru next episode. But in a vacuum, this episode got really fucking good out of nowhere.

"I Wanna Be Where the People Are." - Ariel Raphael
In the Mutant Mayhem movie, Raphael was shown to be the one who really wanted to join people and meet others. Of course, they all mostly shared that feeling - I suspect even Leo deep down, considering how quickly he got a crush and followed his brothers' leads in helping April despite having previously always followed their father's advice on staying hidden - but Raphael was the first to walk into the high school and famously said in the beginning of the movie how he didn't want his brothers' faces to be the last ones he sees before he dies.
Generally, Michelangelo is the one that is considered the most extroverted, as the people-person, when it comes to the quartet. I think it's just how many fans view their personalities, but thinking on all the previous versions of Raphael, there was always a thread of Raphael being one of the best turtles with people.
The first installment (at least) of both live-action movie franchises had Raphael be the main turtle, the one that April bonds with first. There are a plethora of 2k3 episodes that showcase Raphael getting along with the people of New York -- Mrs. Morrison, Tyler, the homeless folks, his strong friendship with Casey -- with the Fast Forward's season 6 seeing Raphael thrive with being able to walk around freely and join crowds. Aside from humans, Raphael also shows how easily he can get along with aliens, people from other walks of life.
Raphael is usually seen as cynical, focused more so on the safety and survival of his family, but he's good with people (sometimes to his chagrin). Perhaps it's due to his popularity as the brooding one of the quartet that make the creators give him more roles, so to speak, as the one that people gravitate towards in the many versions of TMNT.
In the original comics, Raphael was the assassin of the group. Splinter knew that Raphael was the one of his students who would pull off the jobs that needed to be done. The majority of other Raphaels would most likely be able to do the same, but I have enjoyed seeing the evolution of Raphael's character becoming a people-person (whether he likes it or not).

Hey:) im trying to find this one fic i’ve read a couple years ago and i hoped maybe you guys could help. it’s a college!au where dean is pretty much excited to let loose and sleep his way around college but he like bumps into cas on his very first day and immediately falls in love with him on first sight
Hello! There are quite a few fics that could fit, but here are the ones we could remember:
California Waiting by ballsdeepinwinchesters [Explicit, 172k words]
Dean and Castiel's relationship has evolved over time- from strangers to roommates, roommates to friends, friends to best friends. The most troublesome evolution came to pass when they went from being best friends to "We're just friends."
Hey, Alpha! by zation [Explicit, 38k words]
Cas has always been considered too meek and timid to be what people call a real Alpha. Dean, on the contrary, has always been looked at as too bold and presumptuous to be a proper Omega. Or, The one where Cas is clearly Dean’s Alpha, any idiot can see that.
The Dean Winchester Beat Sheet by saltyfeathers [Explicit, 144k words]
In his final year of college, Dean Winchester’s got a lot of decisions to make: what he’s going to do with his life, where he’s going to do it, and most importantly, which girl he’s going to do... right now. And later tonight. And the next night. And the next— When new transfer student Castiel Novak shows up first in his class, and then his friend group, Dean can’t help but see it as an infiltration. Something is up with Castiel, and he’s going to find out what. More accurately, he’s going to enlist his best and longest suffering hacker friend, Charlie Bradbury, to do it for him. Not a single one of Dean’s suspicions has anything to do with the fact that upon their first meeting, Castiel insults his shoes, his general existence, and his masculinity by— looking at him like that.
When We Were Young by FriendofCarlotta [Explicit, 41k words]
2006: Castiel Novak, a new transfer student at Franklin College, strikes up a friendship with popular senior Dean Winchester. He quickly falls in love, but Dean is still coming to terms with his sexuality, so Castiel resigns himself to pining from a distance. Just as Dean and Castiel’s relationship begins to change, everything falls apart, and Dean leaves town without so much as a goodbye. 2019: Dean hasn’t set foot in his old college town in more than a decade; not since the day Cas, the love of his life, broke his heart. When Dean finally returns to Franklin College for a job interview, he finds that Cas never left. Will the two of them be able to clear up the misunderstanding that tore them apart?

Character Headcanons #6
anyone want 2000 words of originshipping headcanons??? you're getting them anyways.
edit: this wasn't showing up in the tags for a while so i had to take out the links. they'll be in a reblog
getting together
they met briefly when steven was 15 and wallace was 18. wallace was Going Through It tm and taking it out on some rando. steven stepped in, beat wallaces fully evolved pokemon with his two first stages, completely humiliating him in front of a crowd
this spurred a whole mental breakdown character arc for wallace but steven forgot about it like 2 seconds later lmao
very "you took everything from me" "i have no idea who you are"
unfortunately for steven he was forced to remember bc wallace had already been gym leader for several months by the time he got around to the sootoplis city badge
steven only managed to eke out a win through mega evolution because wallace was maybe going a bit too hard for a gym battle, even an 8th badge one
still, wallace apologized for that and their other meeting and they became friends
loose friends. they only really started to talk when steven became champ.
steven was baffled. he'd never had a human friend his age before but he really enjoyed being around wallace. wallace absolutely did not understand rocks but he never made fun of steven for spending hours infodumping
around the same time steven became champ, several others his age became part of the league and suddenly steven had multiple human friends his age???
he really only ever met with winona when with wallace, but he got along famously with sidney and phoebe despite their differences
quickly he realized how he felt for wallace was different than for sidney or phoebe but brushed it aside as the difference between a friend and a best friend
around then wallace started dating winona. wallace did nothing but talk about her those first few months and steven eventually realized he was angry at those convos bc he was jealous. it took another few months for it to click that he was jealous because he liked wallace romantically
decided then and there he would never ever make a move because wallace was happy with winona and planning a future with her
even once they broke up, steven didnt want to try anything because wallace was incredibly upset over being dumped and didnt want to ruin the friendship. plus, the thought of just being a rebound made him sick
wallaces romantic feelings only developed after the breakup. steven was his steady rock (pun reluctantly intended) and they became closer than ever after it.
he only realized steven liked him from sidney, brawly, and phoebe who made a joke about them dating. wallace was like haha yea that could be interpreted as crush-like but stevens always been like that
and they stared at him until he realized what that meant and went oh shit
wallace had always found steven hot but it was in a water is wet sorta way. like yea. wallace had eyes. but he thought it over and came to the conclusion that he wouldnt mind dating steven. itd been enough time after winona that being in a relationship seemed nice.
wallace tried flirting with steven for over a year (and not subtly at all) before deciding fuck it and being direct by kissing him.
steven had brushed off all attempts bc there was noooo way wallace would ever like himmm. the kiss made him rethink that though.
through the flirting phase wallaces feelings of sure why not grew into much more genuine romantic feelings so the kiss came from genuine frustration over steven casually brushing off his feelings
it was a mess figuring everything out but they decided to try dating
everyones response was finally lmao
other
wallace loves using classy petnames (darling, sweetheart, beloved, my love, etc). he will also make up some truly stupid and long petnames when hes in a teasing mood. steven...isnt quite to the point of saying "fellow associate" but he isnt too fond of pet names.
mostly, his romantic words tend to be comparing wallace to gems and rocks. if it were anyone but steven wallace would be very >.> about it, but it is steven so he finds it romantic. somehow. he's not quite sure how either, but its steven.
they're each other's favorite battling partner. at times, their battles seem more like dances because they and their pokemon all know each other so well
they're always trying to find new tactics to surprise the other. at this point it's getting difficult but theres nothing better than the surprise on the others face when one whips out a new move or strategy designed specifically to counter the other. it's a sign of love and how theyre always on each others mind.
eventually, when they move in together its to sootopolis. the city is incredibly important to wallace, and while steven likes mossdeep he doesnt mind moving
he still keeps his house there but its mainly just storage for his rock collection
wallace is aghast at having a house that never has any occupants besides rocks and dirt but steven doesnt see a problem with it
he's not sure how wallace will react to learning about all the penthouse suites and villas in other regions his family own that are occupied only once every few years.
communication is their main struggle as a couple. it wasnt so bad as friends, but wallaces habit of thinking he knows best and stevens habit of ignoring any negative emotion tend to go poorly together.
generally a low pda couple. they can get very handsy in private, but steven is uncomfortable with most pda. wallace isnt a shithead (and also likes keeping his private life private), so he keeps things to simple gestures and petnames.
steven was super nervous about telling other people when they started dating. he knew most of wallaces family but only as wallaces friend and was terrified things would change or they'd be suspicious of him potentially breaking wallaces heart like winona had
nothing major changed. lisia started calling him uncle steven, and juan and beverly gave him a light shovel talk, but that was it.
tbh the worst announcement was to his dad. joseph congratulated them, then immediately asked when they were going to get married and give him grandkids.
steven just walked out of the room.
their main joking argument is acceptable date locations.
steven thinks caves are the perfect date spot. wallace does not and would prefer literally anywhere else.
(he still goes on the cave dates)
steven is the one to propose.
they started thinking about it separately at around the same time, but wallace knew that steven was going to be particular about anything involving stones and metal and left getting a ring (and therefore proposing) to him.
steven was indeed very particular. he didnt hand craft the rings himself, but he did mine the material and give it to his familys go to jeweler alongside a very specific design
their wedding is surprisingly low key. the ceremony is rather small and done in the traditional sootopolitan way
the reception is larger but still not too large or exuberant. a compromise between them.
steven wouldve just gone to a courthouse and done it that way but he knew a party meant a lot to wallace. wallace meanwhile knows steven isnt a fan of huge crowds and parties so he did his best to tone it down and make it more personal.
wallace did basically all the planning. it was his dream wedding. steven said yes dear to any request and assumed it would be flawless (it was)
more of a night in kind of couple. steven isnt a partier and wallace tries not to be anymore so most of their dates tend to be very low key.
steven is a serial blanket thief. wallace usually doesnt mind until its winter
both of their teams get along very well. cradily and armaldo in particular get along well with wallaces water types
steven, stemming from years of pining, is more likely to get jealous if he sees someone flirting with wallace but doesn't dwell on it for long.
wallace meanwhile knows steven doesnt like flirting and that sort of attention so theres little jealousy on his side.
it takes a long while for them to have sex.
stevens ace so its just....not something he feels or gets. plus there were other emotions related to being trans and having sex, plus plus he'd just never done it before and was nervous from that. he knew wallace wanted it, but it took a long while for him to even be comfortable being naked in wallaces presence
wallace isnt ace, and has a decent sex drive, so he was a bit frustrated and took a lot of showers lol. he didnt push steven and more than understood his hesitancy, but oh boy did he want it.
they eventually do the do. it's not something they do a lot (steven is rarely in the right kind of mood for it) but they do it often enough to satisfy wallaces cravings.
they rarely argue. wallace tends to instigate more of the smaller squabbles since he's naturally more confrontational, but they tend to be mundane things solved in minutes
most of their serious arguments revolve around the future. the most commonly reoccurring one is about kids. wallace is very close to his family and 100% wants kids, biological or adopted. steven 100% does not. it takes a long time for them to come to any agreement.
a playlist : )
and also this post I suppose
fankids
speaking of kids lol
these are going off my fankids from here, emmy, mica, and lapis
im still kinda ehh on where they fit in my timeline, or if I'll even add them at all but have the headcanons nonetheless!
all 3 were accidents lol
steven is the dad who caves at the barest hint of puppy dog eyes. if wallace isnt there he *will* be persuaded to have dessert for dinner every night.
wallace, having helped raise lisia, is immune.
conversely, steven is the dad who is stricter during punishments. wallace can be persuaded to knock off a day from a grounding but not steven.
both absolutely spoil their kids rotten. all the toys and electronics and clothing they could ever want. possibly a bit too indulgent, tbh
steven is dad/daddy, wallace is baba
the kids have wallace's last name. steven has a strained relationship with basically the entirety of his family so it was a no brainer to put wallace's surname on the birth certificates.
in raising them, steven is something of a stay at home dad. he works with researching mega stones and mega evolution and a lot of it can be done from home. wallace is champion alongside his guardian duties so hes out more often.
wallace very much makes sure to spend a lot of time with his kids though. his dad being gone a lot for work was something he resented as a kid so he tries not to spend all his time working.
steven took emmy going to school the hardest. wallace had practice with lisia, but steven had barely spent more than a few hours away from emmy until school
names were the absolute biggest argument between them. steven wanted a rock name. wallace refused to name a kid malachite.
emmys name (esmeralda) was a compromise from juan. emerald, a gem, but in paldean as an actual name. it satisfied both so they went with it.
steven gave her the nickname of emmy. he based it off of emerald. wallace just sighed and went with it because it was cute.
mica and lapis were all steven. they originally had other names picked for the twins but wallace got stuck doing champion duties while steven was in the hospital. mildly delirious, highly emotional, and incredibly angry, steven went with completely new names just to spite wallace.
wallace cant even be mad. and as far as rock names go, they arent too bad. at least it wasnt malachite.
cradily and armaldo are the most overprotective of steven and wallaces pokemon. when it comes to children, they see their trainer's kids as their own and it hits something ancient in them making them a little more aggressive than usual
milotic is second. they are her little creatures. she will dragon tail anyone who looks at them wrong.

What’s Beyond Evil about? What about it do you love?
Hello, thanks for the questions! I'm always happy to promo Beyond Evil and gush about why it's 16 of some of the best episodes of television I've ever watched 😊 Assuming this ask is for recommendation purposes, I'll try to keep my explanation mostly spoiler free.
Plot-wise, Beyond Evil is about a 20 year old serial murder case that took place in the fictional small town of Manyang. Lee Dong-sik, local dilf nutjob, was accused of doing the crimes, including killing is own twin sister. He has since become a police inspector in Manyang (returning home 18 years after the murder accusations because an investigation went wrong while he was stationed in Seoul.) Han Joo-won, the son of the Deputy Commsioner of the Korean police force and previously an inspector himself in Foreign Affairs division, comes to Manyang specifically to catch Dong-sik, who he believes to be the killer based on other crimes he was investigating at Foreign Affairs. They are quickly assigned as partners, much to both of their displeasure. (Dong-sik doesn't like Joo-won's snooty, rich city kid attitude and Joo-won wanted to surveil Dong-sik discreetly for his private investigation). What can be described as a cat-and-mouse game between them ensues when a new murder occurs with the same MO as the cases from 20 years ago, exacerbating Joo-won's determination to catch Dong-sik at all costs. But wait, the preppy little hot-shot from Seoul has some secrets of his own and motivations for being in Manyang that aren't purely moralistic or justified ... Most of the show involves them trying to solve the crimes and importantly, the consequences that occur when the answers are revealed.
What I like about Beyond Evil ... well I could probably talk about it all day but I'll try to condense it down into a few bullet points:
The characters - they are all fleshed out, flawed, realistic, and compelling, even the "bad guys". Friendships of all genders and ages are included. The idea of family and what makes people family by blood or choice gets discussed in almost every episode. The people who are portrayed as lifelong friends do genuinely seem like they love and care for one another in an organic way. I don't think there's a character in this show that I don't love for one reason or another even if it is just loving to hate them.
It's a "cop" show that is kind of ACAB tbh. The police are portrayed in a unflattering light unlike most American dramas. The rules surrounding how and when missing persons can be looked for and how the investigations into the various female victims are conducted based either negative or positive societal reactions to the victims are criticized at every turn. In the end, you're left with a lot of questions about how the justice system could be improved but the realization that any kind of change won't be simple or easy
Segueing off the prior point, the victims and their families are the main focus. There's no understand or sensationalizing the killer and the criminals. Trauma, and the lingering affects of a family member being killed, is a major theme that often gets excluded in mainstream crime dramas.
My main pairing. When it comes to Joo-won and Dong-sik, the writers really revolutionized the older jaded cop vs. the younger hot-shot rookie trope. Their relationship is so fascinating and unique. It could be a recipe for disaster or a very mutually advantageous partnership, depending on the situation lol The push-pull between them never fails to satisfy. I love examining power dynamics in my pairings and this one has it in spades. Shipping aside though, the evolution of their relationship and the way Shin Ha-kyun and Yeo Jin-goo portray the characters and how their chemistry ignites onscreen is, in my opinion, a major selling point for the show.
The themes - justice, injustice, atonement, redemption, despair, healing, what it means to be vulnerable and give someone else the power to destroy you or restore you, food as a love language ... Above all, this show is about love
While I feel I've only scratched the surface of explaining why I love this show and would recommend it to everyone, I'll stop here so I don't give away too much. If you do happen to watch the show based on this answer, I hope you enjoy it as much as me!! Thanks again and have a lovely day 🥰

OH MY GOD I HAVEN'T THOUGHT ABOUT DINO SQUAD IN FOREVER!!!! AAAAAHHHH IT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS!!!!! YOU ARE DRAGGING ME BACK IN!!!!!!!! (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL US MORE I AM BEGGING YOU)
Hmm what else can I talk about...
Here is the full quick character info:
Buzz Neilson 17 - White - Aro/Ace - He/They (Masc Nonbinary) Dinosaur: Pteranodon Birthday: February 13 (Aquarius) Color: Green
Fiona Rivera 17 - Dominican - Lesbian - She/Her (Cis) Dinosaur: Pachycephalosaurus Birthday: November 21 (Scorpio) Color: Yellow
Max Hwang 18 - Korean - Questioning - He/Him (Cis) Dinosaur: Tyrannosaurus Rex Birthday: September 2 (Virgo) Color: Red
Roger Bennett 18 - Black - Bi/Ace - He/Him (Cis) Dinosaur: Styracosaurus Birthday: August 19 (Leo) Color: Purple
Caruso Caruso (Yes, that's what she tells people.) 17 - Filipina/Italian - Bisexual - She/Her (Trans) Dinosaur: Stegosaurus Birthday: October 7 (Libra) Color: Blue
Also Victor is now a Utah raptor! Forgot to mention his species change. It just makes more sense.
Vee, who is a new character and Buzz's friend, is a Parasaurolophus but is not one of the main group...
Some other tidbits in Evolution are the following:
Moynihan was originally a scientist that Victor, ever the keen businessman, approached with grand plans about power and immortality. They were fast friends, and maybe even more, and Victor was the first human test subject for their work. It was a success, but both Victor and Moynihan had ulterior motives that drove them into an argument; Moynihan eventually grabbed the stabilizing agent to their work and fled, leaving Victor to keep creating unstable monsters as he tried to figure out what he is missing for stable dinosaur shifters.
Max and Caruso started high school as best friends and were both football team stars. Caruso, however, decided to transition and started going by her last name instead, and the other football players and popular kids stopped associating with her.
Max, who was hesitant to stir up any trouble, didn't say anything, leading to a two year period where they didn't talk. A few months before Evolution starts, they tentatively rekindled their friendship and are navigating what that looks like now.
The teens all have different opinions about being able to transform into dinosaurs, which eventually starts to create divides within the group. While Buzz and Roger enjoy and even wish to keep their powers, Max and Caruso actively will look for a way to cure themselves. Fiona is dedicated to taking down Victor using her new powers, but eventually also intends to go back to her planned normal life.

So I pre-watched Lily Orchard’s “Top five best, worst, and blandest episodes of The Owl House” and this line just, pisses me off so freaking much.
“Around the time Dana decided she wanted the show to be Amphibia, there arose a conundrum that, unlike Amphibia, The Owl House was actually written very well, and so there wasn’t a lot to reveal that the audience couldn’t infer on their own”.
Cause yeah Lily, you’re right. “Amphibia” isn’t written all that well…except for the really powerful themes of change and growth and personal evolution. And the beautifully done portrayal of a toxic friendship slowly becoming more loving, warm, and healthy. And the strong arcs given to even tertiary characters like Tritonio and Wally and General Yunan (Scourge of the Sand Wars! Defeater of Ragnar the Wretched! And the youngest newt ever to achieve the rank of general in the Great Newttopian Army!). And one of the best-written antagonist characters in an animated show. And the spectacular world building of Amphibian society that’s done in a brilliantly casual and clever way.
And then there’s her continued bizarre grudge against Hunter. When the hell is that kid ever the Generic Angsty White Boy #780000000000? He’s like, still a big lovable doofus who gushes over not!Star Trek and adores his Palisman in “Thanks to Them”. He’s just dealing with a lot of difficult emotions because…well…everything. And like, Lily, do you just hate it when characters express grief or other “angsty” emotions even when it’s made very clear that those emotions are not the only things going on in their lives at the moment? Cause you act as if all Luz does in the show post-“Elsewhere and Elsewhen” is angst and be sad, when that really isn’t true in the slightest.
