Obsessed with the POV choice in Imperial Radch as well, both because Leckie does some really wild stuff with how expansive the strict first-person is able to become due to the worldbuilding and who her narrator is, and because it's SO entangled with the central thematic concepts of identity. In the first book flashbacks when the narrator is still a warship, "I" can encompass so many things, and sometimes explicitly refers to different facets in the narration--is "I" Justice of Toren, or One Esk, or a specific segment, or Breq narrating from twenty years in the future? "I" isn't simple, isn't unified, and while this is most literal and obvious with Breq/One Esk/Justice of Toren and Anaander Mianaai's split factions it's true constantly throughout the work at every level of scope. Individual characters struggle with internal conflicts and hit their breaking points--what is it that makes someone decide they have to disobey orders and make a stand or they won't be themself anymore? How do you know who you are if you've been forcibly changed (Tisarwat) or if the world you knew has moved on and become unrecognizable (Seivarden)? How does a character on a colonized world navigate the split identity that comes from the pressure to assimilate to the dominant culture? And then there's the Radch writ large, all the Radchaai so deeply invested in the idea that there is only one true concept of Radchaai society, of civilization, but of course there isn't! It changes based on location and over time, and Breq muses that the Radchaai empire would be largely unrecognizable to the isolated sphere of the Radch itself. In these books, even if you aren't the last remnant of a destroyed spaceship and its legion of bodies, "I" is such a complicated concept and the narrative never lets you forget it.

something that is like the baseline of amys entire character to me is that shes lonely. shes clingy and physically affectionate in a way none of her friends really are, shes always getting pushed aside and left behind. yeah, she helps out people she doesnt know because shes a nice person, but also, she sees part of herself in them. she wont leave someone else behind because she knows the feeling —and more importantly, hates the feeling. if she doesnt have somebody to stand by her and be there for her, then shes going to be that person for everybody else. something something her obsession with sonic is really just like a manifestation of that desire for closeness with someone, and she thinks that romance is the only way to get that. idk... this hedgehog can have so many abandonment issues.

Hey everyone,

As of January 20th, I'll have been running orkowhereheshouldntbe for two years. It's been so much fun, and I've learned so much about photo editing and media. But I don't feel like I can keep up with the daily posts anymore, and I don't want to keep half-assing things in hope the spark comes back. In other words, as the bio warned, the joke's gotten old.

That's not to say this blog is going away - I plan on leaving it up, and I'll still take requests and suggestions. I may even make a post of my own here and there when the mood strikes me. But I think taking the burden of daily posts off my shoulders will help.

I could never have anticipated a one-off inside joke like this becoming such a big part of my life, or taking up so much of my time. I'm proud of myself for managing to keep things going this long, even with the breaks I've had to take. And I'm endlessly grateful for all the love and support I've gotten on my posts. I'll have a special video on Saturday, to commemorate the blog's anniversary, and as a gift for all of you.

This isn't a permanent goodbye. It's just a change from how things have been. <3

whats the ferris wheel symbolsim? I gotta know

*hollering from the catacombs* It's a metaphor for the ups and down of all his relationships and how each one has really good high points and really dramatic low points that are connected to decisions of his own making!!! And also his association with amusement parks in general (i.e. obtaining his True Potential in S1 and where he starts reflecting on himself + his dynamics with others in S6)

The three "pods" (gondolas? cars? cabins? what are the seats on a Ferris Wheel called?) are representative of Jay's three biggest relationships in Legacyverse: Nya obviously, Kai, and my OC Sunni (eventually). If I had a tad more room I would've squeezed Cole, Jesse, Zane and Lloyd in there too, but I also wanted to keep to the blue-red-yellow components of the original Fortune card as the focus SO those three it is.

Why those three? Well, that's too soon to tell. But I will say all of them get a moment with a Ferris Wheel + Jay at one point or another ;P

#jay every time he goes to an amusement park: my heart's about to bloom or break today #so yeah my explanation is a little rough because a) spoilers and b) it's far off enough that i am liable to change my mind #but that's the gist of my current thoughts :d #i was originally going to do a steampunk/gear theme #and then a pirate/boat steering wheel #but neither of those had any personal and/or overarching connection with jay as an individual #like for example the pirate theme could be applied to skybound sure but would be really out of place for prime empire #so i tried to go for a theme that was more core to jay and would be something that would carry out through his whole journey/arc/story #was also tempted to make this jesse's card #but he's more about probability than just straight up luck
