Drawn from The Olive Tree Cafe in the West Village. I came here thinking this might be a good venue to draw my next RISO print. I was trying find a good interior place that would both go along with my New York theme but also add a little variety in subject. Plus, this is the cafe from which my college's literary magazine @theolivetreereview got its name, so it's rich in artistic mojo. I started drawing the inside but nothing seemed to click. Sometimes every line seems like it was scratched in a chalkboard with a nail. I was about to call it quits, and then I looked outside the front window, where people were lining up for a show at the Comedy Cellar, and saw this intricate lantern. The bulb was a dud, something you'd find at a Halloween store, but otherwise it looked straight out of a castle.
