After two years I finally updated the look of the signage, front windows and door to my private by appointment art studio. Sometimes I’m there to just hang out with myself and chill, this studio is my clubhouse. Advanced Research Methods Week 4: The History and Theory of Art as a method.

In this weeks lecture we learnt about the history and theory of art as a method to analyse visual projects. The history and theory of art consists of many areas which we should consider when we are analysing photographs, such as what type of photograph is it; Landscape? portraiture? is it a conceptual art form? We also have to consider the period of time it was created and what events may have taken during the same time. We could also consider talking about the artists life too.

In the early years of photography, many photographers have been using paintings and other forms of art as inspirations and therefore try to either recreate them pieces of work, or do an interpretation. An example of a photographer who has done this is Henry Peach Robinson, who has been inspired by the painting 'Ophelia' by John Everett Millais. The painting was created in 1852 and Henry Robinson photographed 'The Lady of Shallot' in 1862, 10 years apart. Henry Robinson has used the same scenario in his photograph as in the painting, having a woman float in a river. The camera captures a different meaning and representation of the photographs, than the painting does itself.

Portrait I created today. I had the honor of creating my friend and client’s memorial portrait tattoo on his sister. Luis Mungia was a long time client, I had known him since he was 16 years old. Luis took his own life recently in his early twenties. It saddens me so very much, he was a great person, I loved talking to him for hours while working on his sleeves.
