Another film that I haven’t heard anyone talk about. Which is a shame, it’s a beautiful picture. Heartbreaking and surprising and understated and powerful and beautiful. Women Talking is definitely one I would recommend. It received the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

So, I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting, but I definitely wasn’t expecting this! Poor Things is a somewhat surprising delight, the character of Bella Baxter really is quite fascinating, how she came to exist is completely f*cked up but it sure makes for an original role. On top of that, the entire film, the sets, the colours, the way it was shot is just stunning. I really liked it and would highly recommend this film. It received four Oscars: Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Actress, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

I’ve now seen Barbie a couple of times and overall I really like it. It’s beautifully made with so many fun details. The only thing is that I feel like the pace is a little off during some scenes. Not a new favorite but I’m sure I’ll watch it again. It received the Oscar for the hauntingly beautiful song “What was I made for” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.

I can’t believe it took me so long to watch Dune. I heard a lot of good things and I can only agree. Great cast, all the visuals are just stunning, epic music, really really good! Very much looking forward to part 2. Dune received six Oscars: Best Sound, Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Achievement in Production Design, Best Music-Original Score, Best Film Editing and Best Cinematography.

Everything Everywhere All at Once. I had no idea what to expect, which is probably a good thing. There is so much happening and at the same time nothing is really happening, and yet it’s interesting. I don’t know how to explain it. Not a new favorite but I did really enjoy it. The rocks were especially comical. Would definitely recommend this Best Picture winner. It also received the Oscar for Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Film Editing.

Okay, I was afraid that this one would not live up to the hype. But I have to admit, Top Gun Maverick really is a great film and a terrific sequel (which is quite rare). Excellent job casting Miles Teller as Goose’s son, he really looks like he could be related to Anthony Edwards. Really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it! Top Gun Maverick received the Oscar for Best Sound for Mark Weingarten, James Mather, Al Nelson, Chris Burdon & Mark Taylor.

Black Panther was such a great film, it would always be a tough act to follow. To do it without the amazing Chadwick Boseman must have been incredibly hard for all involved. For me personally, I still prefer the first one. There seemed to be a bit of magic missing in Wakanda Forever. Letitia Wright is great, but maybe it was just the story that didn’t really take. Not one I would highly recommend but it definitely has some good stuff. It received the Oscar for Best Achievement in Costume Design for Ruth E. Carter.

Im Westen Nichts Neues, also known as All Quiet on the Western Front. I remember being really impressed by the 1930s version. This new one is great in its own way. With sharper images and newer special effects and technology, it certainly is more graphic. I would highly recommend this version as well, it was shot beautifully and has a solid cast. The score/sound effects took some getting used to for me, at first they felt a bit out of place for the story or maybe the setting. Couldn’t quite put my finger on it. But towards the end it definitely works.
It received the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film, Best Music-Original Score, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.

Somehow I haven’t really heard anything or anyone about this film. Which I don’t quite understand, because it’s actually a beautiful film. I love the way it was shot, great cast and just a story worth telling. Is it a new favorite of mine? No. But I do recommend it. Belfast received the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Kenneth Branagh.

The Divorcee, Norma Shearer is great in this, but I didn’t love this film overall. I feel like there were too many unimportant characters from the beginning, just felt a bit off somehow. Not one I’ll rewatch. It received the Oscar for Best Actress for Norma Shearer.

Geez this film takes forever. I really wanted to like it. The cast is great and I like the incorporation of real interviews, but I really struggled getting through it. Just don’t find the story itself interesting enough I guess. Reds received three Oscars, Best Supporting Actress for Maureen Stapleton, Best Director for Warren Beatty and Best Cinematography for Vittorio Storaro.

I’m not a huge West Side Story fan. I like the original but never loved it. Therefore I didn’t have the highest expectations for this remake. It’s a decent film, I like the casting and how it was shot. Not one I’ll watch over and over, but decent! It received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose.

One of the first things I thought, when I was watching Coal Miner’s Daughter, was that the young Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Hartnett are eerily similar and could easily pull off playing a father/son duo. I googled if perhaps this had already happened, and discovered that I clearly wasn’t the first one to notice the resemblance. Really think they should do a film together. Anyway, back to this film. I really loved this one. Obviously the music is great, but the cast, the overall story, I think this is one of the better biopics I’ve seen. Highly recommend it! Sissy Spacek received the Best Actress Oscar for her fabulous portrayal of Loretta Lynn.

Okay I honestly don’t understand why people were excited about this film..? I feel like I’ve spent the entire time waiting for something to happen, but it never really did? The Power of the Dog clearly just isn’t for me. It received the Oscar for Best Director for Jane Campion.
