Once he saw you for the first time he’s bug-eyed and curious. Normally your style isn’t common so you stand out a lot. Some people around you compliment you and ask where you got your outfits. Others are annoying and mean and want to make fun of you and sometimes it’s very subtle. But Jay is very observant and can see the talking shit behind your back, and he’s not going to have any of it. Even if he doesn’t know you that well your style grabbed his attention, so little by little he’ll start talking to you. Being one of the people that compliment you but something was different with him, his smile was warmer and his body language exposed slight interest. Whatever you wear is his excuse to talk to you, for example if you’re holding an umbrella on a nice day he wants to talk about your outfit and then ends up asking more questions.

Conversations become about what type of music you guys like, what artists, recommendations, anything you recommend he will listen to it once he’s at home while he’s studying. But he can barely concentrate because you’re on his mind constantly. The music turns into eventually exchanging phone numbers to talk more, Jay is trying to stay friends for very long though because a month later he asked you out. Now that you guys are dating anything you wear he loves, even looking up the Lolita style online to search for dresses and accessories and send you pictures of them ‘Do you like this?’ ‘This reminds me of you.’ ‘I think you’d look good in this one’

He’s more protective of you because ain’t no way he’s gonna let anyone make fun of you now. Warnings and threats can turn into physical fights because people are so petty. He teaches them a lesson though, and he’s extra romantic with you afterwards. He admires your confidence and how you embrace yourself he doesn’t want that to end. A confidence booster, for sure. He’s your biggest fan, probably wants to take pictures of you a lot. Even if he doesn’t show it, trust me he’s obsessed with you and wants to be around you every second of every day

(This got a bit angsty)

Ok Vinny isn’t going to be as… responsive to how he likes your style, but he still thinks it’s really cool. If you’re dating him since he’s poor he’ll feel guilt for not being able to afford to buy you more outfits but at least he can afford flowers that match the color of what you’re wearing that day on a date. Whatever he can’t afford, he comes up with a plan to give whatever he has. He acts cold but he genuinely cares about you and wouldn’t want to lose you for the world. If you’re still dating him when he’s rich that’s when he’ll spoil you. He doesn’t expect anything back he just wants you to be happy.

You won’t be able to see Vinny as much due to crew business, but once he makes time for you he doesn’t want to leave you. These times are actually the hardest because if he’s going through it he will want to hold you. No need for words when you finally see each other he just wants to be in your arms again. And once he has to leave again he is even worse than before, your smiles just give him peace and comfort again and he needs that more than ever.

✧.* Dom Kang

Dom is simping… you’re a goddess to him that whenever he sees you he gets flustered and embarrasses himself a little. He’s not shy about showing how much he loves you, random kisses, hugs from behind, lots of compliments. He likes to brag and show you off (didn’t mean to reference the Doja Cat song lmao) But seriously he does… Especially when you’re rooting for him during the tournaments and he wins. He’s proud of himself and especially when you shower him with praises and hugs. Watch him melt and turn into a puddle.

✧.* Shelly Scott

One of the most romantic characters and your biggest supporter. If you don’t pull the strings she does and a lot of the times being the flirty one. You got her attention with your stand outish style like Jay. She genuinely wanted to be your friend at first, but she fell first and she fell hard. You fell hard too from how her charismatic personality and caring so much was pulling you in. It’ll take a little longer to confess to each other because you both assume you might not be into girls. But with little hints from Shelly, it started with subtle flirting comments like “If you were my girlfriend I’d spoil you.”

Finally she got the courage for just one date and see how it goes. Pretty much by the second date you’re official. She’s a bit clingy but that’s just her way of showing that she loves you. When she was training hard twitch her dad to help Humming Bird unfortunately she couldn’t reach out to you much but would send occasional texts like ‘😚’ or the cutesy love gifs

✧.* Wooin Yoo

Wooin might fun of you… Especially when he met you, but in his head he thinks he looks good and he can think it’s pretty hot that you don’t care what people think. And just like Dom, I feel like he enjoys when you watch him during his races. But compared to Dom, Wooin is kissing his own ass, “did you see how awesome I am, babe?” So you’d probably be mostly quiet until he’s done talking about himself or notices that you’re not saying anything to hype him up and comments on it

If someone made fun of you that’s when his limit comes because only he can make fun of you. He doesn’t care who it is even if his crew were to make fun of you. Though that wouldn’t really happen because 1. They know Wooin would be pissed 2. They actually don’t care how you dress. Surprisingly when you spend more time with The Sabbath Crew they aren’t as mean as you thought. Well, compared to your own boyfriend. But really when it comes to Wooin he is on high alert when you’re out with him making sure no one is looking at you the wrong way

✧.* Joker

Joker is the quiet type. But he’ll make up with it with physical touch and kisses. Just like Wooin he can’t stand it when people talk shit. Except Wooin doesn’t get into fights unless he’s provoked to, Joker on the other hand is violent. So he isn’t giving any warnings he’s giving a punch to a face. If you tell him that you don’t like when he gets into fights he will just not do it in front of you

On the cutesy side of things you met his brother and he thought you were cool. And his new puppy might finally have a babysitter while he’s in tournaments if you’re ok with it. If not he can just take the puppy with him like usual. Now he has someone to gush over animals with.

Help I know I asked for saiki k requests TWO months ago and I had a really fun idea for an illustration, but my brain is a smooth cube. so that idea stays up in the air.

For now take a really quick silly crack doodle about one of the many possibilities I think Kusuke/Makoto telling Saiki/Teruhashi would go. Spoiler alert: it’s hilariously horrible.

(Saiki thinks they’re messing with them and Teruhashi is seething. Are they pranking them? Who knows.)

And ya know what? Beneath the cut take my redesigns of these guys and my notes for them because I made several months ago ‘cause I haven’t touched them since :(

A quick note! These designs aren’t meant to say ‘fix’ the original-they’re just for fun! Even if I think elements of mine look better, clearly the original works and are well loved. Also I’m not especially fond of these anyways JAJSJANW

Saiki doesn’t change much other than his palette is a more balanced. Also I really like designing hair, and wanted the idea that Saiki really tries to sleek it down to something very generic and unassuming, but the hairpins get stuck in the way and his hair sorta moves outwards from there. Continuing the idea that his powers make him subtly less normal. It also accidentally made him look A LOT more like his parents, oops.

Also I drew a comparison from his canon hair to his redesign, because I didn’t think it was particularly clear until side by side.

Also I actually gave this one a proper illustration lol.

Teruhashi’s design was actually partly inspired by @lu-kario’s human mlp designs because they’re really good :^ She’s also pretty standard except her hair and color (which I’m not too satisfied with.)

I like the idea of the Teruhashi Siblings being a bit supernatural, so along with weird shine effects, they also get constant wind effects! Like in all the anime where they have flowing hair at just the right times even though it wasn’t windy at all before? Yeah! Except that’s more Makoto’s thing while the shine stays Kokomi’s.

Also what ethnicity are these characters now? To me they’re still Japanese, but I think people don’t ever use a range of skin tones for the same ethnicity. But really these are just fun designs I didn’t really think too hard.

Kusuke! He was the first one I did and an absolute PAIN. He was also the reason I did this, because as much as I love Saiki K and respect the author, I just got to know what is going on with his debut clothes.

Well not like I did that much better… Kusuke is stuck with four alt palettes because I can’t decide which shade of weird yellow and purple to make his head and gown (I’ve resolved to draw his hair a different shade of yellow in every drawing.) His eyes also match Saiki with purple eyes, because I think they look better lmao.

Also, that’s his Cambridge gown he’s wearing. And fun fact-they have a great amount of rules on what color does gowns get an accent of based off what subject people are taking! I decided to not think too hard on that and just gave him a better looking gown.

And I really like the hair I gave him, the original to me just lacks a bit of anime shape style. Also his headgear is shaped like a graduation hat now lol.

He also has a silly little doodle for what he’d look like with his lab coat. It’s not here, but I like to think he always puts a ponytail up!

Last and also least xp, Makoto! He’s uhh about the same with the points I said with Teruhashi. Just very angular now. I swear I tried to design a better fashion for Makoto but I just ended up with the same.

I tried to style his hair how Japanese celebrities would, but I don’t know if I succeeded. His hair as I said is constantly blowing to the left lol. Also he has a hair clip now! In my head Kusuke gives him a telepathy canceller disguised as a hairclip.

Also anyone can draw or get inspired by these designs if you wanted lol Though I don’t really like these, I still use these hairstyle for drawing them cause I think they look cool lol.

Okay, I can’t find the ask that requests this pairing, but I know I got a request for it somewhere, so I’m just posting it normally

Anyways, so this was the first oc x canon requested, by @amythecat2001, and this is Purple Plum Cookie

The oc also belongs to @amythecat2001, and her name is Rose Tea Cookie

Okay, so with her name, full disclosure I think I forgot the “Tea” part of Rose Tea when I came up with her name (as well as the “Juice” in “Prune Juice”), because I was like “okay, what’s in between prunes and flowers?” and I learned that prunes are basically just dried plums, so I decided to base her off of those. But I really liked how the plums looked, so I just stuck with it

European plums (since I think those are the specific kind):

So I’m gonna go ahead and say that she’s the previously mentioned fankid who doesn’t really look like her parents but I liked the design of

She looked like a fantasy magic user that I really want to see in a video game

Like I didn’t intend for her hair to be entirely curly, it was just supposed to be some of her hair like Rose Tea, but I liked how it looked, so I kept it. Though some of her hair got obscured by her staff. I also gave her those pink parts at the top to reference the red spots on the plums

Speaking of the spots, I gave her a bunch of plums in her staff and brooch because that’s what she is. Though originally the plums were darker and the spots lighter, until I looked at the references again and realized that it was the other way around, so I changed that

I realized when I was doing the feet, I realized neither Prune Juice or Rose Tea have visible feet, but I decided to keep her with boots anyways. I gave her long boots because why not

If I’m being honest, I feel like her dough is too light, but both characters have light dough tones, so not much I can do. But I did give her blush because I thought it looked good

Oh also, I was considering giving her a bottom hair gradient, but I thought it made the hair design too much, so I didn’t do that

And also the colored sketch was the original draft of her I did before I did her design

I’m sorry, my brain’s not entirely working when it comes to explaining the design. Just know that I like it a lot, even if I admit she probably doesn’t look enough like her parents. Let’s get on to her character

So she’s a wizard that graduated from Parfaedia. Her magic is plant/juice based, which is what those circles you see on the staff are. But she also makes and uses potions, which she learned from her father

She’s a bit absent minded and directionally challenged, she will have points where she’s just like “wait…where am I?” or “what am I doing?” because she forgot. She usually means well, she just doesn’t always know what she’s doing

But don’t let that fool you, she’s very intelligent and has a lot of ingenuity. She uses potions alongside her magic so she could cover her bases if her magic’s depleted, or she needs something specific

I was listening to Licorice’s Cookie Trial theme, so I just imagine her wandering through a dark forest. I dunno, I just needed something to say

To be honest I feel like if I knew more about Rose Tea, it might help me get a better idea of character for Purple Plum, but ah well

Do you have any advice on how to write more descriptively? When writing blurbs, I struggle a lot with making them too short, and they end up sounding flat when reading (if that makes any sense??)

Thank you for this ask! That is a tricky one. I think we all are chasing that goal as writers.

By descriptive do you mean emotionally, or visually, or maybe more? I will assume a bit of everything, but please feel free to send me another ask if this reply isn't what you're looking for. Or for any reason really! I love asks like this, but I’m always worried my answer might not be helpful.

A few strategies that seem to work for me:

Write from the senses/Engage your reader's senses

Sights, smells, sounds, weather, the people around, etc. It doesn’t have to be a lot, just a few sentences or a short paragraph helps. And you can sprinkle it out across the chapter or scene. It might feel fluffy at first. But personally, when I’m reading a book/fic where the author does this, I find all that flavor text gets stored in the back of my head through the rest of the scene. It does a lot to color what comes after!

Use POV to your advantage

Whether it’s your OC or a character from canon. It’s really cool how three characters could see a scene/conversation/event in three different ways, and I think it’s one of the easiest ways to drive characterization, too. This will also help flavor your descriptive writing or prose, since it makes the reader really examine things like hmmm. Is this hot sunny summer day really so awful, or is Rolan character just extra grumpy today 🤔

Leave drafts on the shelf for a while before editing

Always yields better results for me, at least! It gives your brain time to disconnect from the scene and view it fresh again. You’ll probably return and immediately find parts where you need to add a few sentences to help set the scene.

And of course, nothing helps like reading! I always find myself drawing on books I've read when I'm working on prose and looking for a way to frame something.

I think writing more in general will help you, too. It certainly helped me. I just went back to read one of my early fics, and it sounds much more staccato and less detailed than the WIP I'm working on now. I think just getting more writing out into my drafts made me slow down and be brave enough to spend more time describing scenes or emotions. Maybe you can go back through your own works and see if you spot a difference over time?

Also...I'm curious whether your readers would really find your writing to be flat. Sometimes you can be your own harshest critic. 🤗 If you love what you're writing about, that will always shine through!🖤

Leah’s College Roomate | Twilight headcanon

Being Leah Clearwaters college roommate would look like:

She was a little standoffish in the beginning. Literally whenever you tried to make conversation she wasn’t really interested and would give short answers or not speak at all. But you still were friendly and eventually Leah started to break down those walls of hers. “I’m..sorry. I-I don’t have many friends back home.”

Whether you two were the same major or studying different things, you two would have study nights either in the living room of y’all’s dorm/apartment or hang out in the school library. It was often the latter since you’d get distracted in your place. Luckily if one of y’all already had the class before you could lend each other notes or help with assignments. “I don’t understand this—it’s making my brain hurt.” “Here let me take a look”

It would be awhile before Leah would tell you about her life back home on the reservation. She’d tell you about her parents, her brother, her ex (which you wanted to beat up after she said he broke up with her and got with her cousin), and the few ‘friends’ she had. Of course Leah would never tell you her nature or the pack, that secret would remain forever.

When you two are not in class or doing schoolwork, you two like to have movie/tv show nights where you order take out, put on comfy Pjs, and chill in the living room watching whatever you two decide. Sometimes you guys will spend a whole weekend binge watching a show or movie franchise. Oh and much to Leah’s surprise, she enjoys tuning in every Monday night to watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette. “She better not choose him—he’s a walking red flag.” “Yeah, but who knows maybe red is her favorite color.”

While your room is very chaotic or straight from a Pinterest board, Leah’s is very simple and has a lot of her native heritage spread along the walls and keeps it clean. The living room/kitchen has elements that reflect the both of you so it is a nice blend. There’s a little plant area on the balcony if you have one or there’s fake ones inside.

If you end up going home for winter/spring break, you invite Leah to come with you back home if she is willing or has no plans. At first she was hesitant, but it turned out to be the best trip of her life. She enjoyed traveling and exploring since she never got to do it back home. The next break you have Leah ends up inviting you to come visit her, which you whole heartedly agree and she shows you everything there is about her culture.

You two love to share each other your favorite hobbies, books, movies, art, etc. It took a lot of convincing to get Leah to read your favorite book series, her excuse being she had a lot of schoolwork to get done first, but eventually she gives in and it becomes her whole personality. You two end up staying up a whole night just to talk about the series, its plot, the characters, and watch the adaptation if she hadn’t seen it.

Let’s remember, you two are college students so cooking can be a rare occurance. After a days long of classes, clubs, work if you have job, and any other thing in your daily life, cooking is brushed aside for Uber eats or the dining hall because lets be honest…your lazy to do dishes. However, on weekends you and Leah take turns cooking lunch/dinner. You will Friday nights, Leah Saturday and then both of you will work together on Sunday. “How’s paella sound for Friday?” “Fantastic. I’m thinking pasta or stir fry for Saturday.”

If either of you are in a relationship, you best believe the other is getting the tea. Even if its the ‘talking’ phase or casual dating, you guys will gather in ones room with a bottle of wine and chocolate to discuss the weeks events with whoever your boo thang is. Leah isn’t focused on a relationship and honestly neither are you, but that doesn’t stop you two from flirting or trying to get on someone’s tab when you go out for some fun. “Ugh I swear, Leah, if he just had a sense of rhythm in him when dancing, I would’ve folded.” “mmmh yeah don’t settle for less.”

Thank you so much!! I literally never draw Jupiter, on account of my inability to draw 1. adult men and 2. beards, BUT it’s something I need to / want to get better at. The only other time I’ve drawn him was that lineup which I did super quick, so it was fun to try and think of an actual design so I can try to draw him more!

Details on my Jupiter design / headcanons (?) for his life under the cut:

I started with the middle— in my layers, I dubbed him to be “teen” Jupiter, originally intending for him as a senior scholar, but as time went on I figured he was more like, early 20s young adult Jove. The Wunsoc sweater is just still there on the adults because I didn’t want to redraw <3

I feel like Wunsoc, especially with Dearborn and Murgatroyd prowling the halls, holds its student’s appearances to a certain standard. Sure, society members are representatives of the society for the rest of their lives once they graduate, but their time in school is their first introduction to that life. It's their debut as society members. We see this in a lot of stuff with Holliday, in Hollowpox and in the one Silverborn snippet, how she's manufacturing an image for Mog and co. and physical appearance plays a part in it.

Going with this: I feel like Wunsoc would expect their students to keep their appearance clean and approachable somewhat. Jupiter gives me a vibe of the kid who had a crazy growth spurt, and was able to grow a beard before graduating– BUT I don't know if Wunsoc (really just the Scholar Mistresses) would be crazy for that. So I imagine that he's relatively clean-shaven for the most part, nowhere near modern Jove, and then starts to grow out his facial hair a bit more as a senior scholar where I imagine things would lax a bit, and then just commit fully to growing a beard once he properly graduates.

So young adult Jupiter is perhaps in his early 20s, a somewhat recent Wunsoc graduate. I'm a mullet Jupiter truther, where his hair is longer in the back, and had to represent that. Younger Jove's is messier and more fun; he's not too concerned about his image as he hasn't quite reached that laundry list of titles and accolades yet.

Present-day adult Jupiter is still rocking the mullet style, just now it's longer and styled a bit more professionally. But let's be real– it doesn't stay this way. It totally gets easily messed up from his hats, and Jove loves to have fun and entertain people, Plus, he's a busy man, constantly stressed and running around. While the hair here might be great for say, a formal meeting or a magazine cover, the hair most folks end up seeing him with tends to be a bit more wild. He definitely starts to resemble his younger self's hair more after a rowdy night or a stressful endeavor.

Kid Jupiter– not much to say here, tbh. I figured I'd stick with the longer hair he has as an adult, kinda rowdy. Not a mullet yet, though! I was thinking of the part in Nevermoor where he starts talking about the rules he broke and stuff he got up to as a Wunsoc student, and how Hawthorne started taking notes, and made his hair similar to the rowdy hair of our favorite bestie. However, while Hawthorne's hair is curly, I'm of the belief that Jupiter's hair is definitely pretty straight. So no curlicues for him </3

Hopefully now that I've started to nail down a design for Jupiter, I can draw him more!! I always have soooo many Nevermoor ideas circling around in my brain. I love thinking about designs for various characters and the reasonings behind different aspects of their appearance.

Between my roommate and I, we have 6 of the little bastards! (Affectionate)

Here they all are:

That particular one is mine. Her name is Pumpkin Leigh, she’s the only girl, and she was found outside my mom’s old house. She adopted me. She’s obsessed with me. All the boys look at her like she’s the reigning queen. (She is). She has zero interest in returning to her stray ways. She takes one look at the outdoors and goes “Ew, no thanks”. Addicted to cat nip. Plays fetch. Like a weirdo.

(Punkin on a Punkin)

This confused looking fellow is Oliver George. He’s my roommate’s cat. I love him. He hates humans in general? He has a crumply ear because he had a boo-boo of some sort. It got fixed, and it gives him character. He likes Pumpkin and my sister. He tolerates everyone else. If he escapes the house it’s at least an hour getting him back in, and it often ends with someone (me) getting shredded. He looks at me and says “You’ll never take me alive!” And proceeds to fight with all his ten-pound might. And then is super sweet when I finally return him to the house.

2-for-1 special, this is Jack Daniel (black) and Potter Maxwell (orange) they’re brothers from the same litter. Mom was a short haired calico and Dad was a long haired black cat. Jack got mom’s coat and dad’s color, Potter got mom’s color and dad’s coat. They’ve never been apart a day in their lives. Potter has the worst RBF I’ve ever seen on a cat, and Jack will only let you love on him while you’re trying to wash your hands. Any time Ollie escapes, Jack has a meltdown when he comes back in, because apparently he doesn’t recognize him.

This is Sylvester James and I think he needs 3 pictures to really hit home how fuckin’ insane his transformation was. We found him outside a friend’s house, and we thought he was just a normal sized escapee, bc he looked healthy enough, but then he got fed regularly and a safe place and he turned into that enormous, majestic, long-haired beast. He’s so soft. It’s like petting a cloud. He also talks a lot for no reason. Also an occasional prison breaker. If Ollie refuses to go quietly, Sylvester is the opposite. If he escapes you can just pick him up and you can hear his little pea brain go “Rats! *finger snapping noise* Foiled again!”

This fucking chaos gremlin is the baby, Floki Alexander. My roommate’s ex bf left him with us when he got dumped until he could get stable. He’s so sweet. He’s fucking insane. He’s almost three, and still has insane kitten energy. Loves kisses and cuddles and unattended glassware. If there’s a cup left sitting, Floki will knock it off and break it. She loves her kitties so much. She gets kisses and snuggles and ear cleanings from them.

She’s also fucking rotund because the only way my ex-roommate could get her to warm up to him was by human food. She’s on a diet now, and we go for walks.

What’s your workflow like? I’m a process nerd so I always wonder how artist get from a blank page to finished art. Are you all digital? Do you work in a single document?

ah interesting question ! ill try my best to explain it :0

- i start with making a moodboard for my ideas, finding color palettes, finding references, taking my own ref pics, do a bit of research etc to get inspired. so i don't have to do that during

- once i feel ready i start sketching in paint tool SAI or procreate, sometimes traditionally if i wanna get a lot of different sketches down like thumbnails for composition or character design iterations. making sure the sketching part is comfortable is very important to me. it needs to be fun and feel right, otherwise i wont finish it. if the sketch doesn’t feel right, i might just drop it or take a break, come back to it later, etc

- when the sketch is ready i do my lineart in paint tool sai, my favorite brush is on there and its just the most comfortable for me to work in. lineart is really where i shut off my brain and just get it done, good for low energy or bad mental health days

- lineart done? i move the file to clip studio paint and lay down flat colors really quick with the close and fill tool. each color/section on their own layer. for example skin is on its own layer, as is hair and clothes. i make quick changes in color by editing the hue/saturation to my liking. then i begin shading and blend it with textured brushes. i really love cloud blenders for shading lol, that’s my go-to

- when i’m satisfied with the colors its time to add mood lighting. its usually rim light and an overlay layer to bring it all together. if i’m feeling funky i also add reflective lighting, very subtilty. play around with the hue/saturation/luminosity sliders until i get the right results and make it pop

- then i spend some time coloring the lineart to fit the colors

- then lastly, the most fun part: adding sparkles, glitter, stars, droplets, stamps, any glowy bits to give it that final oomph ✨

im one of those people who has a hard time knowing when a drawing is finished, so i could tinker on it indefinitely lmao! when im done, i do color management and check the art on multiple screens like my laptop, tv, phone to make sure i like the colors everywhere (my least favorite part lol). anyways this is what works for me!

Some things I’d like to see in BG3 (even though it will never happen)

Not saying anything new here but more animalistic races:

Smaller reptilian races like Lizardfolk or Kobold. Kobolds are already in the game like. Come on.

Firbolgs. Everyone loves them now that Critical Role has been using them a lot more. I love seeing things from previous D&D editions that have been forgotten getting the love they deserve. I also enjoy how they went from mostly human looking to Bovine-esque.

Shifters. I admit my vision for Shifters is probably way different than canon, I see them way less human than in the pictures I’ve seen. More feline or rodent like faces, furrier, etc. Great for lycanthropy which was going to be a thing considering the scrapped werewolf companion. Also apparently there’s a lot of them near Baldur’s Gate in the Werewoods.

Simic Hybrids. Yeah yeah they’re from Ravnica but you can make it make sense. The Gith can travel through different planes. There’s already cults and guilds and crazy wizards doing wacky science experiments so the Simic Combine making an appearance in Faerûn isn’t far fetched.

Other, not animalistic races:

Warforged. From Eberron, not the Forgotten Realms. There’s already robots in the wizard tower in act two and Sorcerous Sundries in act three, both of which use magic to pilot them. Then there’s the steel watch in act three which uses tadpoles brains to pilot them. I don’t think an explanation as to how Warforged (or at least a version of them) appeared in Faerûn would be very difficult to come up with.

Changelings. Also from Eberron and tbh… I don’t have a real case for them I just think they’re neat. I could see them be home brewed into another Underdark race though tbh.

Aasimar. Totally doable. We have Aylin already, we have Marcus who is like a fucked up twisted version of an Aasimar. They would be great.

Genasi. Technically we can make them in all but name. Skin, eye, and hair colors to match whichever element/subrace you want. Classes and subclasses and spells and even gear to give you a whole element theme. Might as well have just made them a playable race.

Classes/subclasses:

If I’m being honest I’m happy with what they picked. Except I don’t understand why they didn’t add Artificers. We have all these gnomes. The Guild Artisan background. All these robots that I mentioned earlier. Gortash being Gortash with all his designs and building and shit. Let me give Durge a gun.

I will never understand why they didn’t give us the Loviatar option for Clerics or the domain of Pain.

Also give Paladins the option to choose a deity so you can be a Paladin of whatever deity you want without having to dip into Cleric. But make it a choice because not all Paladins are followers of a god. Also I want more oaths.

Make Warlock patrons actually get involved more. Not like Mizora level but still… maybe I’m just not far enough into my warlock.

Backgrounds, character lore, etc:

Why can’t I have a Tiefling from Elturel when like 90% of the game’s Tiefs are refugees from there. Why can’t I have a character from Waterdeep or Candlekeep. One thing that kinda annoys me about the game is that other than brief mentions or some books about other places, it really feels like Baldur’s Gate is it. Which is funny because you don’t even actually reach Baldur’s Gate until act 3! And then Menzoberranzan is treated like it’s super close but actually it’s far as fuck and there’s totally other Drow cities that are closer. My point is I wish we could choose where our characters are from.

Going back to my Genasi point, pretty much we can already make them. They could just. Add some flair options. Could also work for my Paladin point, give us flair to choose from to label your character as “Paladin of *whatever deity*.” I’m sure there’s other flair options that people would enjoy, even if it doesn’t have any effect on the game. I think it would be good for role playing purposes. What if I wanted to label my high elf as a sun or moon elf? Or have a Shadar-Kai elf? Or say that my wood elf is a wild elf? Literally just having it in my character description would make me happy.

Guess who has Save the Last Dance words this morning?

That’s all the warning you’re getting.

Because here’s the thing, I was raising an eyebrow at the shit Gwen pulled early in the episode already, back when it aired. Because Kevin doesn’t actually ask her out- he asks if she’s looking for him to take her to an event, she decides ‘that’s good enough’ gives him a time to pick her up and immediately fucks off, presumably in case he tries to clear up the ‘misunderstanding’ given later shit (you know we’ll get there), and then Kevin rolls with it because he does like her- and her purposefully misunderstanding him is, to put it simply, fucking rude. Who raised this child?

And then we realize that this happens the day before the dance, and this is a point where we very much hit ‘viewer experiences affect how they engage with text’ territory because I was an American teenager at the time this episode aired. I was an American teenager who had been to four different high schools. None of them were you bringing a last minute date who did not go to the school. That shit required paperwork, parent signatures, shit submitted at least a week in advance. And I am aware that this is probably a post-9/11 thing, and that the writers were probably all in at least their thirties, but, still takes a bitch out of the allure when they’re going ‘that poor guy’s gonna go through all this work to get turned away at the door because he’s not on the guest list.’

‘Either that or Gwen did all this shit ahead of time, which would be fucking creepy.’

But, let us put that aside, personal experiences coloring shit, yadda yadda, yackimy-smackity. This girl describes herself as having “made him ask me to the dance”. Quote from the episode, when she’s gunning for sympathy from Julie because she’s worried he might not show.

And she didn’t make him, because he didn’t ask her, but she did purposefully misunderstand him. Actually, one second, a quote from me from my rewatch of this episode-

“Ever since I made him ask me to the dance“ you didn’t even do that!!! He asked if you wanted him to ask you and you responded with a time for him to pick you up! Which, by the way, really fucking rude! And presumptive! And now you’re being all “oh but now he’s acting weird” you should be grateful he’s having anything to do with you. People with more self esteem would’ve taken that for the red flag it fucking is and backed off entirely!”

But what gets me about her saying that, really digs under the skin, is that her describing herself like that? Says a lot about her attitude going into the situation. Because, again, he didn’t ask her out, she didn’t ‘make him’ do shit. The proper phrasing, that I as a writer would use if I didn’t want my character to look like an asshole, would be ‘got him to’. Because ‘made him’ brings across the idea that the matter has been forced. And for Gwen to use it when she didn’t force the matter, after what we already saw, says to me that she intended to. Otherwise why would her brain be in the space to use that wording? Unless she’s realized she was being rude, overstepping set boundaries, and feels bad about it, but it’d be a first for her in AF and even then why not fucking say that? It’d be just as easy to have Gwen going ‘I’m worried I might have overstepped’ as it is to have her go ‘I’m worried Kevin’s gonna stand me up’. Or have her apologize at some point for being pushy, and then you could’ve had Kevin forgiving her and it could’ve been a really sweet moment letting them move forward with clear air and definitely on the same page.

But again, that’s assuming she uses the phrase ‘made him’ from a place of guilt or regret. Which we get no indication is the case. In which case, whether she did it or not, her own words imply that she may not have intended to accept a ‘no’ from Kevin on this. Which, given her behavior in All That Glitters, laughing at and ignoring a basic boundary while very very much trying to pressure Kevin into making a move, isn’t all that outlandish a possibility.

Which hits even harder when you consider, again, personal experience impacting engagement with the text. Because one really solid way to force the matter would be to have gone through all that effort ahead of time, and have that there to pull out as a ‘I went through all this and you’re going to make it a waste’. Which is very unlikely to be intended, but a very viable interpretation.

Even without it though, again, there’s the implication Gwen intended to try to force a date out of Kevin with this dance. It’s even entirely possible that part of her phrasing is that her plan was to just tell him when to pick her up and go no matter what he said there, essentially voluntelling him to come to the dance with her, in which case her plan went off as intended and so was her ‘making’ him ask her out. It’s entirely possible that if anything being able to interpret his words as asking her out, even if he clearly wasn’t, made her more secure in her decision to do that, which would’ve made him acting ‘weird’ hit harder and more something to whinge at poor Julie about.

🎨 When did you start creating art for the Inception fandom, and what is your inspiration?

I kind of stumbled upon Inception's fandom presence on the tail end of Inceptiversary 2020, which was a pretty big deal being the tenth anniversary and all. I saw all the amazing content people were making for the event, and I immediately wanted to join in. I think my first ever Inception art piece was the one where I drew the characters as animal crossing villagers (a most professional and dramatic beginning, I know). After that, I started experimenting with style and color and some more dark/serious stuff, trying to find a balance. I've found a lot of inspiration in the movies of Makoto Shinkai and some other anime-style stuff. While I don't exactly have an anime art style, his work's color palettes and large-scale cityscapes have always been something I admire. I think those aesthetics show in a lot of my work.

🎨 Tell us about your creative process, and which part do you enjoy the most about it?

I wish I had a consistent creative process, but usually it adapts to my mood, the weather, how much time I have, what I had for breakfast, and the position of Venus relative to Jupiter /j. If I'm in the mood, I'll browse pinterest until I see something with a vibe I want to replicate, I spend a couple minutes listening to music and cementing in my mind what I want to try, and then I fiddle around on my iPad/paper until the piece starts to come to life. My favorite part has to be seeing that process all the way through. I'm all about experimenting with new things, so I'll put on some music to keep my stim brain happy and get to work. I can usually draw for three to five hours at a time on a good day.

🎨 Link us to your first and latest artwork, and how your style has evolved since then?

My first Inception artwork was the animal crossing one, where I was just kind of messing around before I really got into Inception content. My most recent non-meme fully finished piece was the ocean one with Cobb and Saito (I'm so good at titling art, huh?). Looking at it now, I think some parts of my original style have stayed intact, like the rounded, thicker outlines. But besides that, I think I've really come a long way since 2020. I learned how to color things, and fell in love with Inception as creative inspiration. I think that love really shows in the art.

🎨 What is your absolute favorite piece of art that you've made, and why?

My favorite piece of art I've ever made is also the biggest one I've ever made, and the one that took the longest. It's called Leap of Faith, and it's not just my favorite because I like the way it looks--it was probably the most fun I ever had making art. If you were following me or on Discord around this time, you know I was hyper and posting progress pics every five minutes because I was so excited about it. This was a big experiment with lighting, mostly. A fun secret about this piece is that the entire color palette is taken from a scene from the movie Your Name. I've used Your Name as inspiration for a lot of my Cobb x Saito stuff, both art and writing. I don't know what it is about that movie that makes me think of them, but it's something about connection against all odds. Also pretty colors.

🎨 What is something about Inception that you really want to make art for someday, and why?

Another big artist inspiration for me is Simon Stålenhag. I read his book The Electric State, and I'm obsessed with his ability to capture emotions in art that sometimes doesn't even have living entities in it. He can show everything from hope to despair in just a cityscape. I would love to make art like his portraying limbo, or Saito's castle.

It's so hard to pick only a few, but I will never get tired of @lemon-yellow‘s watercolors. Lemon has made all my ship dreams come true, and I owe a lot to her. Also, @katribou has some amazing and hilarious Inception art that really got me into the fandom. Finally, shoutout to @dingdangit who brought the Muppet Inception screenplay to life.

🎨 Anything else you'd like to talk about art and the Inception fandom in general ❤

I really owe this fandom so much in terms of all my art. I rediscovered my love of both painting and writing through Inception, and everyone has been cheerleading for me since the beginning. While I may not be active as often in the fandom, I'm now designing tattoos and working towards a career as an author, and I can't say I'd be doing any of this if the gang hadn't hyped up my fanfiction and convinced me that I could draw. Shoutout to everyone in this fandom, even if you don't create and simply comment and leave likes on other people's work. It's all so inspirational, and incredibly important for emerging artists. Having this space to create and experiment in has been so good for my art. Also shoutout to all the smaller ship folks. In a mostly one-ship fandom, we're still going strong and making art, and I think that's awesome.

I was scratching my head, thinking “if I were Cale, what would I mistake this as?” And since me and Cale are very similar, it absolutely didn’t take me too long. In fact, my brain immediately went “he’s trying to eat him.” And I was like “yeah, you’re right” and wrote it down 🤣

Also, from the comments on that fic, I’m happy to see quite a number of people have identified my boy Jasim Veltouré as the red herring character I conceived him as~ that makes me so happy~

Attempt # 2 from The Cale Henituse Protection Squad

Extra - Veltouré and Eruhaben

Jasim nods politely toward the various guests that turn their glittering and fake smiles his direction, but he keeps his footsteps slightly hurried so that no one approaches him.

Not too hurried, of course, as that would only bring undue attention. But, not too slow, else everyone and their mother would snag him for a lovely conversation. And then, he won’t be getting anywhere quick.

And he needs to be quick, in this case. He feels it in his gut.

Jasim Veltouré is one to trust his gut instinct. It’s gotten him out of many a situation before.

This time, he’s hoping to use it for someone else.

He approaches the golden figure, bathed elegantly in the warm yet bright lights of the palace ballroom, and immediately sketches a bow of greeting. Nothing too deep, but he dipped his head maybe a smidge lower than he really should have toward someone of this man’s station.

Jasim trusts his instincts, and they say this man in front of him deserves even more respect that Jasim could ever possibly give.

For… some reason. Even though this guy is only a knight. Still.

Keeping his confusion off his face isn’t much of a chore, as he’s always been adept at concealing his thoughts from the outside perspective. Jasim straightens out and spreads out his hands in a further greeting, calm smile on place as those golden eyes turn to take him in.

Instead of taking him in, Jasim feels like those eyes are piercing him, inspecting him for any flaws.

Luckily for Jasim, he had beaten his flaws out of the naked eye’s view himself from a young age. He would challenge any noble to point a single one out for him now.

“Guardian Knight Haben?” He asks rhetorically.

A single golden eyebrows lifts upward. “Speaking.”

Jasim nods, expression relaxed. “It’s good to finally meet you. I’ve heard a lot! All good things, though, I assure you.”

“As if they would be anything else.”

Smoothing away the arrogance with a motion of ease, Jasim takes a step closer to the knight. He keeps his eyes off the very distracting way that the ballroom lights dance along the fall of the man’s hair — why is everything about him gold — and leans in further to whisper.

All the while, the knight has Jasim pinned down with an flat, if slightly bemused and annoyed about it, stare.

“I wouldn’t look around, but have you seen a particular shade of red recently?”

There’s a slow blink, and Jasim swears for a second those are slots like a snake instead of a pupil, before the eyes narrow on him dangerously.

“… Not at all.” The knight admits. Both brows are turned downward in an expression that isn’t quite a frown, but equally displeased. “What exactly are you trying to say?”

“I was only wondering.” Jasim shrugs lightly, glancing away at the various guests milling about, pretending they’re not trying to eavesdrop. Hopefully, they’re speaking too quietly. “It happens, I just recently saw that color myself, and I think something might be wrong, is all.”

“Hmm.” The knight says noncommittally. After a brief moment where Jasim feels seven times heavier, all of his skeleton aching in a starkly alarming matter, the knight straightens up and steps away from the wall. “Lead away then, little Marquis.”

For some reason, Jasim’s mouth is incredibly dry. He swallows as subtly as he can and turns on his heel.

He exit the ballroom proper out into the vast corridors of the palace beyond. He doesn’t spare a glance back to make sure whether the golden knight has indeed chosen to follow him or not.

He doesn’t need to. Jasim can feel those eyes burning holes into his back the entire way.
