I watched Strange World yesterday and Ill be another person to advocate everyone to go look at it after hearing that its apparently not advertised in some countries. Personally Ive seen quite a bit of ads for it on social media and the cinema before other movies start in Ireland but hey seems like Disney is really trynna bury it
And for good reason too, it is gay. Yes. There is a lesbian. Yes. Theres black characters and mixed characters. There's gayness very much in your face in the first 15 minutes and is a point through the rest of story and a big theme in it is self discovery and also daddy issues.
Anyway Im gonna tell you to watch the movie because its gay. No theres a lot of stuff like that you can watch that has a lot more gayness in it.
No you gotta watch this movie because it is an INCREDIBLE take on 'hollow earth' and the worldbuilding is absolutely beautiful.
Tumblr media
The build up for the final reveal starts off since the first 5 minutes of the movie and continues to pepper in hints for you to slowly figure it out whats going on. It's an alien world full of colour and mystery and I WISH these people were researches not adventurers because I WANNA learn more about it!!!! Every creature in the movie has some sort of purpose and if you know highschool grade biology then you will pick up on the hints quite quickly and have your brain blown out
Tumblr media
The story tackles parental trauma and discovering yourself when you grow up. It has views very specifically built around 'peace not violence' which is something i highly encourage in family friendly movies like such, but its also not afraid to tackle harder hitting moments like death and mutual aid for those in need.
If you can I recommend watching it whenever you can! It has so much charm and love put into the designs, the animation, the movement and the jokes. Very hard not to enjoy this little alien adventure

One of the reasons I believe a lot of people are so aggressively threatened, freaked out, and even offended by the concept of a gay or bi Mike is because then they’d have to face the fact that queer people are just people. Which, duh. Of course, they are! But Mike Wheeler, at least in the first season (and sorta the second season), is THE main character. He’s THE guy.
It’s what turned Finn Wolfhard into a heartthrob and fast-tracked him to starring roles in movies like It and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. For people who grew up loving 80s childhood adventure movies, on which the Duffers based their show, Mike Wheeler is Elliot from E.T. He’s Mikey from The Goonies. He’s Marty from Back to the Future. He’s Luke from A New Hope. In other words, he’s the kind of young sci-fi hero every boy dreamed of becoming. I mean, who wouldn’t want to find out that magic/the supernatural is real, go on an insane, life-changing adventure with their friends, stand up to bad guys, and fall in love with a girl with superpowers in the span of a week?!
Other than being nerdy/into D&D (which is honestly not that far from being a theatre kid, tbh)/hj, kinda melodramatic, and somewhat unathletic (affectionate), there’s nothing about Mike Wheeler that radiates gayness on the surface. Plus, he’s the protagonist! In Season 1 we experience most new things through his eyes. That makes him the audience surrogate character, so how can the audience surrogate character be (gasps) GAY?! That’s OBviously impossible. He’s just a guy. He’s just a dude. He’s just a person. He’s just the boy next door.
And if queer people are just people, then that means ANYONE could potentially be queer. Even your younger sister. Even your best friend, who has no stereotypically gay traits, plays football, and has a girlfriend. Even your children (gasps). Even you (am I gay quizzes? were born from fears like this). That’s terrifying for people who expect the world, and the media they consume, to be black-and-white.
People like boxes. They like things that are safe. Every time general audiences are introduced to a new character they fully assume the character is straight, even if they aren’t shown to have any interest in girls (like Will) unless they are an obvious stereotype, say the words, “I’m gay,” or explicitly make out with a boy (even then, some people will still try to claim they’re confused or simply “struggling with their sexuality”).
Kevin Keller from Riverdale. Kurt Hummel from Glee. Patrick in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (as much as I love that movie). Carlos in HSMTMTS. These are all characters that are Gay™️. They are almost always the comic relief sidekick, or the gay bestie for the main female character, or some variation of common tropes. Audiences (even homophobic ones) are increasingly used to seeing these types of characters on their screen, but a gay Mike Wheeler would be a different type of character entirely.
“Mike being gay or bi would just be OUT OF NOWHERE and would be bad writing done just for woke points.” Okay. Aside from the fact that it would simply NOT be out of nowhere (gestures wildly at the Byler Proof Slides), let’s unpack the phrase “out of nowhere” for a second. Why is something only considered “out of nowhere” when it’s gay and never when it’s straight? Was it out of nowhere for Dustin to find a girlfriend while at camp? Is the resurrection of Stancy out of nowhere? And to the people who are still somehow convinced that Will Byers isn’t gay, just “maturing slower than his friends,” I guarantee you they wouldn’t call it “out of nowhere” for Will to suddenly have a female love interest, even though it clearly would be. They would encourage it, even if it was someone especially ridiculous like El, who is literally his sister, or Max, with whom he’s had almost no on-screen conversations. This is why you see people on TikTok and YouTube who genuinely believe Will’s painting is for the random girl he danced with at Snowball. Talk about out of nowhere!
“But Mike just isn’t gay. Don’t be delusional. Don’t be unrealistic. He is straight. He has only been shown to like El and has one of the most extreme cases of romantic tunnel vision in fiction I’ve ever seen.” Okay, let’s push aside the constant lip stares, the romantically charged conversations with his best friend, the fact that he can’t say or even write, “I love you” to his girlfriend, the ways the Duffers have consistently framed the Will/Mike/El dynamic with love triangle imagery and drawn our attention to this for the entire show, and more (gestures wildly at the Byler proof slides once more!!) for one second.
The emphasis on “just isn’t” betrays them and their underlying perspectives. Let’s be clear. You can say Robin just isn’t straight because she’s been explicitly confirmed in show and out of show to be lesbian and into girls. You can say Will just isn’t straight because his sexuality has been all but confirmed as well. But you can’t say Mike “just isn’t” gay if the only concrete “proof” you have for this is his (turbulent) relationship with Eleven. Keep in mind. Without Vecna, we don’t have access to the innermost thoughts of any of the characters. All we have to go by is their actions, their words, and the intentional ways the Duffers have coded their characters. Ultimately, people who say this are saying that Mike Wheeler “just isnt gay” because he doesn’t fit their pre-conceived, ignorant, myopic notions of what a gay person is. Mike “just can’t be” gay in these people’s minds because he hasn’t done any gay “actions,” whatever that even means (that’s why they believe Will- sweet, innocent Will- is a predator/homewrecker because they associate gayness with freakish deviance and see it as something inherently sexual, whereas if Will were a girl with the exact same feelings towards Mike, they’d never in a trillion years see it this way).
In both real life and in fiction, despite all the progress we’ve made as a society, straight is something you’re allowed to just be, by default, regardless of whether you’re dating someone. Gay is something you have to PROVE or “fall into,” and even then it’s treated with incredible suspicion (this is why people who ship Stobin believe Steve can “fix” Robin and make her into boys). Bisexuality is tragically either erased altogether, treated as a joke/a phase, or completely misunderstood (I heard someone say Mike could never be bi because he’d never date Will and El at the same time - what?! That’s not how bisexuality works). And comphet is something entirely baffling to straight audiences. You might as well be saying 2+2 equals armadillo.
They’d rather believe that he’s just become an asshole, or that Finn Wolfhard has suddenly become a bad actor. Because accepting that Mike Wheeler isn’t straight means accepting that he can be the cool, brave, valiant, kind, caring protagonist of seasons 1 and 2, AND also be madly in love with his best friend. That feels like a bait-and-switch to some people because they don’t see queer people as “normal,” even if they claim they aren’t homophobic. They see queer people as “the other,” as something alien. [Insert Visibly Stereotypical Character Here] can be gay, not MY Mike Wheeler. He’s straight. STRAIGHT.  He’s madly in love with El. He and Will are just friends. JUST friends. Sound like someone?
That’s one of the reasons that Byler will be such powerful, meaningful, representation (aside from just being the only logical explanation for Mike’s weird actions). Byler becoming canon will give hope and provide a voice for the millions of LGBTQ+ kids out there who don’t fit a stereotype or society’s pre-conceived notions but who just happen to not be straight. Mike Wheeler will join Nick Nelson as one of the best LGBTQ+ teens EVER on screen. It will be a cultural reset. And it will hopefully open people’s minds to the beautiful tapestry of humanity. A love story so pure, so beautiful, and so overwhelming that the boy who tried so hard to be “normal” and to deny his feelings for his best friend and the boy who survived bullies, a week in a hellish alternate dimension, and a possession that took over his mind and body had no choice but to go crazy together.

Ethan Clade- The LGBTQ+ Rep We've Been Waiting For
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I just got around to watching Strange World the other day, and it made me UNBELIEVABLY happy.
(Mild spoilers ahead)
I had heard we were going to get a gay character but I was afraid it was going to go one of two ways: It would be something that could easily be brushed aside (not overtly gay, or in a very minor scene with a minor character), or that it would be portrayed in an annoying way (as in, the gay character would be a stereotype or have that be the only part of his personality).
I was very very happy to find out Strange World did none of these things. The gay character in question was Ethan Clade, one of the main protagonists the movie followed. This on its own was huge, as it makes Ethan the first openly gay protagonist in an animated Disney film. Ethan only interacts with his crush (a male character named Diazo) twice throughout the film, and in one scene it is just a short clip. However, it is referenced several times as well. Just after their first scene together, Ethan's father reminisces about his own first crush in reference to his son and Diazo. Ethan can also be seen rehearsing a made-up conversation with Diazo while walking through the forest. Later, he has a conversation with his grandfather, where Diazo is explicitly stated to be Ethan's "sweetheart". In none of these scenes are Ethan's family shocked by his sexuality. They simply accept it as part of him without any dramatic scene of "coming out".
While Ethan's gayness cannot simply be brushed away, it is also NOT the only part of his character. It is only one part of who Ethan is. He does not spend the whole movie focusing on his crush, nor is he a walking stereotype. He is a kid who loves adventure and card games, who cares very deeply about nature and his family, and who wants to find a way for people to peacefully interact with the world around them.
The character of Ethan Clade is a huge step for Disney. I hope more people go watch this movie, and I'd love to see more content about Ethan and Diazo soon.

Rating the m5 least to most gay
Kyle - straight nice guy vibes from this one. he be white knighting and complaining that girls only want the “bad boys” and not a gentleman like him. we still love him tho
Butters - mostly straight but in a misogynistic way. it’s not intentional it’s just the way he was raised. any bicuriousity would be shameful for him bc of his dad’s history
Kenny - Fem leaning (BOOBS) but anyone that’s talented between the sheets will be sufficient. just needs someone adventurous and freaky tbh
Stan - repressed bisexual. abnormal attachment to his best friend that he tells himself is purely platonic (it’s not) he is very confused. poor guy
Cartman: GAY. again, weird unrequited obsession with kyle. will not come to terms with it for a very long time. projects his closeted gayness onto a fictional persona ala mr. hat. doesn’t do relationships, will send death threats to his hookups if they dare tell anyone about it

DUUUDDEEE your boy just finished the Cupid scene in Percy Jackson House of Hades and i am LOSIMH MY MIND
I knew about the Nico gay thing for a while from spoilers BUT I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO BE LIKE THAT
I was COMPLETELY expecting it to be a thing similar to most kids shows like Adventure Time where the gayness itself is normal and the main conflicts that could be happening in a mlm/wlw relationship is w/ the characters themselves or there aren’t even any conflicts and the character just SHOWS UP in a wlw/mlm relationship BUT I WAS INCORRECT IT SEEMS
LIKE FIRST OF ALL THE HEADCANON THAT PERCY WAS NICO’S GAY AWAKENING WAS NOT A HEADCANON?? EXCUSE ME?? I WILL NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING ABOUT THESE BOOKS AGAIN IM SO SORRY RICK
AND ALSO HIS DENIAL ABOUT IT??? HE ACTUALLY HAD SOME INTERNALISED HOMOPHOBIA OVER IT??? LIKE HE WAS LEGITIMATELY ASHAMED ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE’S FROM THE 19 FUCKING 40S WHERE GAY = BAD???? AND THE WHOLE BATTLE HAD TO BE HIM COMING TO TERMS WITH HIS HOMOSEXUALITY??? HOLY FUCKING SHIT IM NORMAL IM SO NORMAL THIS IS A NORMAL
i think the reason im so shocked by it is that i know that Nico gets with Will in later books but as i stated prior i was expecting them to just. show up one book as a couple bc im used to that in media and that kinda being the first,, insrance of Nico having the homosexuality™️ but NO NUH UH I WAS WRONG

South Park WOWOW Japanese dub
I remember someone asking years ago if there was a place to watch the Japanese dub of SP, so here's a masterpost of all the episodes I've found so far. Links go to NicoNico Douga, the quality isn't the best but this is the only place I've found them.
SP has three Japanese dubs, from what I can see: the WOWOW dub (seasons 1 - 7), the Fox Japan dub (season 8), and the Netflix dub (seasons 15 - 23). If I find any more, I'll update the post!

today on spooners adventures on reddit:
im apart of a greek mythology subreddit and someone posted a meme about Achilles being gay for Patroclus, which we love to see it. There was a million comments being outwardly homophobic being like ‘my greek hero’s could never be gay, gay wasn’t even a thing.’ (the real comment was condemning the gayness of greece to fan girls on tumble) To which i respond with what i thought was a pretty well thought out argument providing evidence about how even in 5th century bce they were shipping the boys together and how Sappho existed and all these great LGTBQ+ ideas existed proving that yes, gayness does exist in ancient greece and it wouldn’t be surprising if they were lovers but hey, we’ll never know!
then i got the “oh it’s so sad you spent time on this, you have such a straw man argument”
sir i was just giving you evidence to show why people thinks they’re gay… what?

Doctor Who ask thingo
Who would you pick as your fav doctor?
As a bonus, favourite companion?
Thank you for sending this as an ask! It's fun to find myself in the middle of an ask game I never even reblogged. This is what life is all about! It's really funny that you've asked the two questions like that, because the answers are disproportionately different in complexity.
The first question is very simple: my favourite Doctor is Nine, hands down. There is of course a "he was my first" thing, which, for many people (me), firmly cements certain characters in their heart. But what is equally, if not more, important to me, is his narrative.
I'm a huge fan of love stories, with love not necessarily being romantic. I think love, in the broadest sense imaginable, is the most compelling driving force in any story, since it comes from within the character and makes them move forward on their own accord. Be it familial love, love for life, passion for a certain subject or goal, even corrupted types of love, with a villain wanting to take over the world or something – love, to me, is the joy we find in life, and I find stories centered around it the best, most human and relatable ones.
Nine's story is full of it. He is completely broken and guilt-ridden, yet he still manages to find joy and to love with both his hearts. Love protects him, transforms him, saves him, than kills him and transforms him again. We can say that it's Rose who saves him, in the end (and we would be partially right, since she is the physical manifestation of his love), but I would argue that this change and healing can't come from the outside, it has to be an internal force, and if the Doctor didn't love Rose, she wouldn't be able to do any of this (this is not to diminish Rose's impact on the story, I'm just saying that this is a mutually active process).
Add Eccleston's beautiful acting to this soup and it's now effectively impossible to not win my heart. He has incredible range as the Doctor – charming and frightening, down-to-earth and incredibly alien – he has it all and switches between these modes effortlessly to create a quintessentially Doctor performance.
Now, to my favourite companion – this is a very hard question. I just can't pick a favourite because they are all so beautiful and complex and interesting. It would be like picking a favourite child. It would probably make sense to talk about Rose after that whole essay I did on Nine, but I want to talk about an independent story. So, as a show of lesbian solidarity if nothing else, Bill is my favourite companion.
But really, I love her. I like talking about her, because I have a lot to say and because I don't hear about her much, although I think she deserves to be discussed in-depth. You can't overestimate my joy when in 2017 I, then a baby whovian, heard that there would be a lesbian companion on the show. It meant so much to me, and still does. I guess we all on this site have been saying for the longest time: "don't give us stories about being queer, give us stories about people who just happen to be queer", and Bill's story is exactly that. It's really about her, and not her gayness, but her identity is not ignored.
However her storyline absolutely had to reflect her queerness not just in passing comments, but on a deeper level, because otherwise, what would be the point of that little victory for us gays? It's really important how comfortable she is in her identity, but you can't really get self-acceptance angst out of someone who has already accepted themselves, can you? I already talked a bit about it in this post, that her seeming lack of growth and character arc is exactly the point. She is confident, grounded, she knows and likes herself, and there's not much you can do about it plot-wise, she is like an immovable object in that respect, so this is a story of an unapologetically gay woman going on little space adventures. Unlike other companions, who change, find themselves and learn of their worth through travelling with the Doctor, Bill already has everything, and for her travelling is just a bonus.
And that confidence, that grounded-ness, that positive queer experience is reflected, metaphorically in other parts of her story – in her staying true to herself during the monk invasion, after the cyberconversion and in her day-to-day life. And the cyberman plotline is the most powerful representation of this. Everything that Bill is, came together in here.
I don't want to live if I can't be me anymore.
This quote may seem strange in a show that is so tied to the concept of constant change, especially since it mirrors and inspires Twelve's decisions regarding his inevitable regeneration, but, from a queer perspective, this is a powerful message. Yes, change is good, but only when it's natural. It can't be forced upon you. Much like love that we discussed with Nine, it must be coming from within.
Not to mention the parallel "cyberconversion vs conversion therapy". I don't know if it was intentional on Moffat's part, but this is a great new perspective on cybermen (they want to help you by forcibly changing you, because they hate what you are and want you to be like them or die, sounds familiar?) as well as a genious way to bring queer issues into the narrative without devaluing your character's queer identity.
And to talk about love again for a sec: Bill really did save the world with her love to her mum! Why people don't talk about it more? She didn't have the best childhood, being an orphan child in the system, being black amd gay, her foster mum seems to be a rather cold and detached person that doesn't know her at all amd doesn't really try to, and yet Bill constantly, unwaiveringly, chooses love, joy and warmth. She loves herself, her friends, her weird space grandpa and the memory/idea of her mother. She draws power from this love that lets her endure everything.
So this is about my two favourite characters on the show, who start from very different places and go very different ways, yet still connected by love that runs like red thread throughout the whole show. Thank you again for asking me, this sure turned out to be a lot, but I hope I managed to say something of interest.

tag meme
Rules: tag 9 some people you want to know better and/or catch up with, then answer the questions below!
Last song: "Vode An" - Star Wars Republic Commando video game originally, but for me? YouTube.
Three ships: well uh at the moment I'm very 👀 about Obi-Wan Kenobi/Commander Cody (yes, yes I watched my first Star Wars movie when I was probably six and saw The Phantom Menace first week in the cinema and THIS is what I end up shipping? Idk either).
Then I spent quite some time shaking AO3 until I'd read all the John Sheppard/Rodney McKay that looked like it appealed to me... And a fair bit of the minimally tagged one too, because lots of old imported fic. It's a good fandom if you want space adventure with slash, although I suspect watching canon might disappoint in certain ways. But A+ plotting, SGA authors.
Uh and then there are some evergreens. Zoro Luffy Pirate Husbands 5ever... But hey, Kirk/Spock! Had a bit of a revival for me. Which reminds me I need to show a friend The Undiscovered Country, we've been going through the classic K/S moments
Currently reading: Bad Gays: A Homosexual History by Huw Lemmey &Ben Miller. I almost finished then forgot it in a tote bag but now I found it again. Very entertaining non-fiction about "the complicated, the evil, the ill-reputed and the bad" gays through history. What the book adds to the podcast (well, it also removed their frequently shite sound quality issues, it's terrible in the early eps) is their critique of the white cis male-male thing that goes into the concept of homosexuality and gayness currently, and how this was built up historically. Which really nuances some of their person portrait choices well, but also, it's just a good read.
Last movie: Solo - yes, the Star Wars movie. But earlier this week I watched Twilight 3, lol, which was terrrrible but not as bad as Twilight 1 or 2. It's okay, I had friends and we got mildly drunk
Craving: Fresh baked bread
Do I have nine people on Tumblr to tag after my long "eaten by the black hole of irl" uh.... @carmarthenfan @stephantom @janeeyreofmanderley @minipliny @itsyveinthesky @kira-under-pressure @m-madeleine calling the old crowd, all very voluntary and only if you think it sounds fun I guess/awkward wave/

Master List of Gay Cartoons
In honor of Pride month (and to help those who are suffering since Amphibia ended and The Owl House is on Hiatus), I decided to make a list of gay cartoons. Mainly because I realized younger members of fandoms might not be aware that these shows exist. Enjoy :)
The Legend of Korra (2012-2014)
Tumblr media
 4 Seasons
This is the show that started it all. Korra and Asami were the first canon gay couple in a kids cartoon. They became canon before gay marriage was even legal. Not much of their relationship is shown onscreen, but they paved the way for all that followed.
The show itself is great, especially seasons 3 and 4. Korra in particular has a great character arc, and like Avatar before it, it continues to have great worldbuilding and an epic magic system. It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, and the fight scenes are super cool.
Adventure Time (2010-2018)
Tumblr media
10 Seasons
I’ve never seen this show, but I have seen clips of Princess Bubblegum and Marceline and they are amazing.
All I know about this show is that it’s in a post apocalyptic universe, the vampire writes awesome songs, and it’s gay. After ten seasons. (Which by the way shout out to the fans who shipped Bubbline since the beginning your strength of will is incredible)
Gravity Falls (2012-2014)
Tumblr media
2 Seasons
This show is incredible. It’s funny, has a really fun animation style, cool creatures, and it’s the parent show to Owl House and Amphibia. The characters are great, the mysteries and codes will keep you guessing, and the villain is a triangle in a top hat. There’s two gay minor side characters and a main character (Wendy) was confirmed Bi offscreen.
Also, this show is a part of Disney’s pride collection, which is odd considering when it aired Disney was constantly censoring any of Alex Hirsch’s attempts at LGBTQ rep.
Steven Universe (2013-2020)
Tumblr media
5 Seasons, 1 movie, 1 sequel season
Both over-hyped and over-hated this show seriously did so much for gay representation. So many modern cartoons wouldn’t be able to exist without it. Practically every character is gay in some way. You’ve got a lesbian wedding, an ace character, multiple non-binary characters, and a main character who doesn’t give a shit about gender stereotypes.
It’s got lots of found family, gay pining, cool fight scenes, and amazing original songs. (Peace and Love on the Planet Earth is a bop) The characters and their relationships with each other are really complex. Season 1 is mostly fun filler episodes but after that, things start getting Intense.
Star Vs. the Forces of Evil (2015-2019)
Tumblr media
4 Seasons
I also haven’t seen this show. All I know is that there are gay characters, and the show is semi-well liked, and the girl is considered a war criminal for some reason?
Voltron Legendary Defender
Tumblr media
8 Seasons
I never finished this show, but what I watched was pretty good. There’s space, giant robots, and Pidge. One of the main characters is gay. (I also watched it after its prime and didn’t interact with the fandom, so I don’t really know what happened all I know is Shit Went Down.)
Ducktales (2017-2020)
Tumblr media
3 Seasons
Like Gravity Falls, this show doesn’t have much in the way of on-screen rep (two background characters and one character confirmed offscreen), but it’s a great show nonetheless. Also, Webby and Lena, although not canon, raise the gayness level by a heck of a lot.
It’s basically about a bunch of ducks going on adventures as a family. Its full of moments that will make you laugh, has a cool comic-style or animation, and gets surprisingly serious at times. It also has David Tennant as a Scottish duck and Catherine Tate as his nemesis.
She Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018-2020)
Tumblr media
5 Seasons
Everyone in this show is gay. I’m not kidding. The main characters are lesbians. The other main characters are Bi. Pretty sure the only straight one is the main villain. It also has the classic Childhood Friends to Enemies to Lovers.
As for the actual show, imagine a bunch of sparkly princesses, now add Star Wars, an evil cult, and then make it gay. That’s the show. There’s swordfights, robots, a character named Glimmer who likes blowing things up, a talking horse, Adora who is way too relatable, some war crimes, Catra who can never have a good day, Best Boy Bow, and they save the day with the power of love. It has everything you could want honestly.
The Dragon Prince (2018- Present)
Tumblr media
3 Seasons (with more on the way)
Most of the gay characters in this show are side characters, but they’re all amazing. You got the lesbian moms, the gay dads, the twink elf with glasses, and a badass general who’s probably gonna end up with this fire elf girl.
The first three seasons are great and the next one is hopefully coming out soon (It’s been a three-year hiatus. End me). It’s made by some of the same people who made Avatar. There’s a classic element based magic system, the animation is beautiful, and there’s dragons. The main couple is great and one of the main characters is voiced by Sokka.
Amphibia (2019-2022)
Tumblr media
3 Seasons
Most of the rep in this show is minor characters, but in the finale one of the main characters was confirmed Bi and two side characters got together.
This show has fun fantasy adventures with epic season finales. The worldbuilding is well done, the voice acting (especially Hop Pop) is excellent, and it never fails to make me laugh. There’s found family, childhood friends to enemies, and a whole lot of character growth throughout the show. Warning: this looks like a goofy frog show. You will cry. Many times.
this is also part of Disney’s pride collection which just proves that Sashannarcy is canon
Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts (2020)
Tumblr media
3 Seasons
This show is seriously underrated. One of the main characters (Benson) is gay with another gay side character and a non-binary background character.
It takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where giant mutant animals have pretty much taken over. The soundtrack is awesome, the characters are fun, and the villains are really well written. It’s just all around a fun time.
The Owl House (2020-present)
Tumblr media
2 Seasons (shortened 3rd season upcoming)
This show man.
You have a bi main character dating a lesbian (the word girlfriend is used several times onscreen), and several other characters who are gay including a non-binary character and an Aro-Ace character.
It’s a fantasy show with a cool magic system. The animation (especially in some of the fight scenes) is incredible, the found family will warm your heart, the season finales will tear it out, and it’s just all around a great show. It will have you laughing one minute and sobbing the next. The characters are also well-written and complex. Especially in season 2, everyone gets their time to shine.
This show is also like half of Disney’s pride collection Which is odd when you consider the fact that it was cut short for “not fitting the Disney brand” but it’s fine. I’m not bitter.
Arcane (2021-present)
Tumblr media
1 Season (so far)
I can’t praise this show enough. It genuinely is one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen. It’s Greek Tragedy but done with stunning animation and a steampunk vibe. The writing and music are excellent, and every character feels so real. Also, lesbians.
(Side note: Unlike the other shows on this list, this is not a kids show, and it’s definitely not a happy show. If you’re bothered by blood or people being brutally killed, then don’t watch it.)
Honorable Mentions
Teen Titans (2003-2006)
This show doesn’t have any gay characters, but its a great show, and definitely caused some people’s gay awakenings
Avatar the Last Airbender (2005-2008)
The show isn’t gay but the it’s sequel is and it also just one of the best cartoons I’ve ever seen.
RWBY (2013-present)
The only reason this didn’t make the list is because I’m not sure if it counts as a Cartoon or an Anime. One of the main characters is canonically Bi, there’s a few gay side characters, and they are hinting at a gay relationship soon, but whether or not it will happen is still up in the air.
That’s about everything I could think of. If I missed anything please let me know so I can add it to the list (and watch it. I am out of gay cartoons to watch. help.) So yeah, enjoy and happy pride!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) Season 1 reviewed
I’ve spent last week rewatching the original 1987 ninja turtles series, the show that put the turtles on the map, with the animation mostly done by Toei, do the first five episodes hold up?...well.
We are introduced to a plucky reporter, April O' Neil, whose design was partially inspired by Fujiko Mine from Lupin the third which shows in her adventurous attitude.
the streets are riddled with crime however and she's surprised to find that her heroes are....anthropomorphic adolescent turtles.
it's up to the turtles to stop the evil shredder and his partner Krang from destroying the world.
Turtle Tracks: The art style is dated but it has charm, you can see the slight anime influence in the faces and fighting scenes, which are very well animated for the time, however, there are a few audio and visual errors but this was the first season so it's gonna look a bit rough.
The Turtles themselves are very loveable, each one having a distinguishable personality, and seeing them try to blend into the human world in their disguises is very entertaining, there's good build-up for the shredder reveal but for a first episode/tv movie it drags on quite a bit, which tells us more about April than about the turtles.
Enter the Shredder: We are introduced to Shredder, a sinister but very enjoyable villain and his partner in crime, Krang, their interactions are so funny, they act so much like an old gay couple but in the universe of a cheesy, camp 80s cartoon, the gayness doesn't end when we're also introduced to Bebop and Rocksteady, who are basically a furry Beavis and Butthead, now here's the question, if Shredder is tired of losing to the turtles, why can't he become a surgeon instead, especially with Krang going on about how he wants his body (top surgery).
We find out the reason why April is so determined about her job even when made into the damsel in distress is that her boss Burne is an absolute ass to her, the turtles wear snazzy outfits and Donatello displays his technical skills that help them escape the technodrome.
A Thing About Rats: Baxter Stockman is introduced as he invents the mouser robots, there are also some goofy scenes where the turtles mess around at April's apartment, this episode has a good amount of both comedy and action, and Baxter Stockman is a good character who I feel quite bad for, the dude just wanted to be recognized for his scientific genius.
Hot Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X: the Turtle van/party wagon is introduced as a form of transport for the turtles and the Neutrinos have cool designs and voices, a cool mix between modern and retro teen archetypes, but aside from the party wagon being part of the show's continuity, it feels out of place compared to the rest of season 1.
Shredder and Splintered has Krang receive his new robotic body and April stands up to her boss for a change, there are some cool fights
The first five 87 TMNT episodes show some good animation, enjoyable characters and atmospheric music, but scenes tend to drag on for too long, while it is still good, it's not amazing like the rest of the series, but it made the turtles popular so I can't completely fault it.

honest question: how would you go about fixing characters that are "boring", like warren or bobby? bobby got pushed out of the closet, but that's about it... how'd you make someone like warren a compelling character? or is he too far gone
Nobody is too far gone, no character or no tool on literature is too far gone off being interesting... but I would rather break my nose again than trying to make Warren Worthington III interesting.
Bobby on the other hand... we gotta look at greener pastures, literally greener on this part, so, what makes a character like Rictor so interesting when it comes to being gay? Bobby only needs a chance to show how he is more than the Gay X-Man. But being fair Bobby has not had that chance in years, he is thrown around to fill spots on teams and not even as a good bench warmer... Bobby could explore what it means to be of the faves of being a mutant while gay, he could never have his gayness touched and just talk about how his powers could be alienating on just how extreme they can be, talking about how he was closeted for a big chunk of his life and how he broke a lot of girls' hearts, talk about how he was seen as the kid between his peers, maybe have more adventures with Peter and Johnny, throw him into a magical adventure and make him face a winter witch, make him go to fucking alien planet which is always frozen, make him talk to Northstar about how he was in love with Bobby, maybe try to evolve his relationship with Christian how they can bond over how they "lost" a chunk of their gay lives.
There are no true bad tools, only writers that could not make an interesting plot to save their lives and editors that would rather take a bullet than let a writer take a risk.
