I don’t know where I’m going with this. And it will definitely anger some people. But I need to say something before I might just disappear.
The way this was handled was not right on any side. Not the way a user traced, not the way I confronted the user, not the way other users then confronted me.
This has happened four times. No, I’m not talking about this specific art situation. I’m talking about the four separate times I have received vague posts about myself and a flood of hate anons which eventually result in death threats. I’m not doing this for pity and to erase my wrong. I already admitted my wrong. And I will admit it again - the way I handled that situation was disrespectful and informal. But you cannot act like the way that situation was then brought to me was civil, either.
Vague posting is not the way to do it. To anyone. You need to learn the difference between a teenager on the internet with a semi-popular meme blog for a small fandom, and a celebrity with an entire social media marketing/publicity team to keep them in line online to ensure they say and do everything as “right” as they can, to avoid drama.
It is just me behind this screen. I am a teenager. I am still living under my parent’s roof. My parents don’t know about this account because if they did it would be taken away. I don’t have a job. I don’t have a license. I’m still enrolled in grade school. I am a kid. Just like you.
And I will make calls that are not always the right decision. I will give opinions that not everyone agrees with. I will say things in the heat of the moment that I don’t mean. I will mess up as a human that is still developing and learning.
Four times. Four times I have been vague posted about, sent a flood of hate anons, and been graphically told to off myself. Four times I have tried to get in contact with the people who vague posted about me and try to get us both to a satisfying conclusion. Four times I have said “please come to me next time because vague posts do nothing”. Four times people have agreed.
And then it repeats anyway.
This blog and series has been my ultimate comfort since I was a child. It is the thing I think about everyday, through the most mundane to the most exciting of tasks and activities. It has been the thing to keep me alive for years. And now, for the fourth time, it is almost the reason I have died. The actions of users are the reason I have almost died.
You’ve got to do better. Please bring your concerns directly to the people with whom you are concerned. Stop vague-posting. Stop. Stop sending anon hate. Stop sending death threats. All of these things are vile and unjust to the humans sitting behind these screens. Talk to these people. And don’t be rude. Be the better person.
You have to do better. I don’t know how many times I can say it. People need to communicate in order for things to be resolved. Vague posting does nothing except spread hate, fuel anger and divide people who could come together.
I am disappointed and disoriented and left hurt. This was not the way to do this, on any side. All sides were wrong in certain aspects. All sides. But that doesn’t mean that as people sharing this earth we cannot come together and right our wrongs. People can be redeemed. Enough with the cancel culture. Enough with the gossip. Try to reach an agreement between these people. We’re kids. We’re all kids and we make wrongs, but with those wrongs come the chance to learn and grow.
I will not pretend like the posts and the death threats did not phase me. I am tired of moving on everytime this happens, sure that people will finally listen to my request for them to just come to me next time something happens that they don’t agree with, only for the cycle to repeat itself.
And god, I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: Never send a death threat, either. We are people. We are children. Telling someone the world is better off without them is horrific and beyond cruel. Be better. Please.

Right + Click + Save - Part 1
Summary | Working from home has it’s perks, especially when it comes to helping a technologically unsavvy super soldier try to navigate a dating site.
[As of now I am not tagging this as anything but fluff and sarcasm. This is a bit of a first for me but it’s pretty fun so far. If you want to be added to the tag list, let me know!]
A/N: Bucky x Female Reader. This amazing plot was a request from the lovely @tom-hlover. I hope I did it justice so far 👉🏾👈🏾.
Tumblr media
Your office setup was relatively simple – a monitor in front of you, a keyboard and a coffee warmer that you’d bought on a whim after always forgetting to drink the entire cup of coffee and finding it cold by the time you’d finished something else on your list. Work from home was a sweet setup and you were lucky you were able to do it in your pajamas, even if it was just a pair of flannel bottoms. Zoom calls were the norm these days and on those days, that called for the upper half of you to at least look presentable. For today, it didn’t and you were more than happy to wear your well worn university t-shirt that had its fair share of rips and small holes.
Within minutes of logging on, you were inundated with a flurry of messages, at least seven of them flagged in red, elevated for your attention.
“What the hell,” you muttered out loud, clicking on the messages as another popped up in your inbox with a loud alert. It was too early to have this many notifications in the day.

“Good god,” you huffed, taking a long sip of your coffee while you stifled a laugh.
Though you had seen your fair share of elevated issues, it was nothing like this. The same user identification number and the coded language of the accounts that were created within minutes of each other. You searched your drawer for your headset, untangling it from a cache of pens and a stapler remover as you settled it on your head and adjusted the mic.
You clicked on the button that connected you to the voice chat, hearing a series of clicks before you hear a loud swear. You covered your mouth at the loud blasphemy.
Definitely an older man, you had to guess. It wasn’t uncommon. Dating sites in this time had seen a record number of new users signing up. More than likely you guessed it was some older man who had forgotten his password after signing up. Other times it was fraud, which was where you got to put your skills to work.
“Hello, do I have the pleasure of speaking with...,” you glanced over the name once more to confirm. “Mr. Barnes?”
“Uh, yeah, that’s me,” the voice on the other end agreed sheepishly. “God, I feel really dumb.”
Whoever Mr. Barnes was, they certainly didn’t sound old. They sounded younger, their voice appealing, if you were being honest with yourself. The kind of voice that could read you a bedtime story.
You shook your head at that comparison. He was probably still old. Voices could be deceiving.
“How can I assist you today, Mr. Barnes? It appears you had some account issues from what I can see.”
An irritated sigh was your reply.
“I don’t know what happened. I signed up and it chose a password for me and then it disappeared and I got locked out. So I figured I’d try again and make a new one and the same thing happened. I don’t know how many I actually made.”
You bit your lips to keep from laughing.
“I count eight,” you affirmed. “Would you like me to assist you in deleting them?”
“Jesus, eight? Uh, yes please. I’m not really good at this whole technology thing.”
No kidding, you thought to yourself as you went through the accounts and flagged them for deletion in the system.
“You’re all set, Mr. Barnes. Would you like me to assist you in resetting your password?”
“Um, actually I had a question.”
“Of course.”
“Is it worth it? Signing up for this site?”
You propped your elbows on the desk and threaded your fingers together, looking at his account.
“I don’t know if I can answer that for you. Our site is here for people who are interested in dating and making a connection and they seem to be very successful with their matches. Is that something you want to pursue?”
“I don’t know what I want. This is all new to me. Have you signed up?”
You paused at his question, your nose scrunching up while you debated your answer.
“I have not, no,” you admitted.
“Then how do you know it works?”
You let out a small laugh at the pointed question. He had a point.
“Our testimonials have been very encouraging in regard to our services.” You’d beaten around the bush and were proud of yourself for it.
“So you haven’t signed up and you’re going by testimonials without trying it yourself? That’s good faith in a brand. I haven’t seen loyalty like that since Cracker Jacks at Polo Grounds.”
“What is Polo Grounds?” you asked, hearing a groan on the other end.
“Nevermind. I don’t want to reset my password anymore. Can you delete it?”
You couldn’t help but feel a sense of care and sadness at his words. They were spoken with defeat.
“It’s an easy reset. I’d just need your date of birth. I promise it isn’t all bad. These things happen, believe it or not. It’s pretty common. Do you really want to delete it?”
“Ah,” he began. You heard a sharp laugh from someone and another groan that came from him. “Sure.”
“Okay, date of birth?” Your hands were poised over the keyboard, ready to input the numbers.
“Date of birth? Like the month and the day?”
“And the year,” you instructed.
“Ah, year. Well...uh.”
You heard the click of the phone and then a dial tone before your face registered the shock.
He had just hung up on you.
“Tell me you did not just hang up on that poor girl,” Sam asked, Bucky’s hand still gripping the phone.
“She asked for my date of birth to change my password,” he protested.
Sam raised an eyebrow at his comment.
“So?”
Bucky scoffed, already frowning at the repercussions of what could come. It was Sam’s idea in the first place, all well and good until he forgot the complicated password that his phone had suggested.
“I’m over one hundred years old. That’s going to go over well.”
“Women like a mature man,” came Sam’s reply from the kitchen. “Experienced and well traveled, mm-mm. Sugar babies looking for a sugar daddy.”
“Yes, that’s absolutely who I am. I don’t know why I let you talk me into this.”
“Because you need to try something new.”
Bucky flexed his fingers, the vibranium shining in the sun. Easy for Sam to say. He didn’t have the history that he was sure he would be asked about. Or the fact that someone could easily do their homework and find out who he used to be.
“You seemed like you had a good back and forth the girl on the phone. She single?”
Bucky ran his hand down his face with a overly exaggerated sigh.
“You know, I didn’t ask.”
“Well, why not? Because you hung up on her? Call her back.”
“I don’t know how.”
Sam’s hand reached for the phone, his fingers scrolling through the apps and then the phone began to ring.
“Sam, what the hell?”
The phone was thrust into his hand as a familiar voice chimed in.
“Mr. Barnes? We must have gotten disconnected.”
Sam’s shit eating grin was enough to make Bucky turn around, shaking his head while he ran his fingers through his hair.
“Hey, uh, I guess so. Do we really need my birth date? Is there another way I can reset it?”
“Sure. I think there’s some security questions. Here we go. Best friend’s name when you were in the fifth grade?”
Bucky turned around to face Sam with a smirk.
“Best friend? Steve Rogers.”

Pretty Boy 187 [s.r x reader]
summary: reader finds out that her new found tumblr crush is none other than her coworker.
content warnings: she/her!reader, mentions of alcohol
a/n: hi!! i’m so happy to be posting again. i’m really proud of this, so i hope you all like it! as always, let me know if you have any requests!
Tumblr media
convincing spencer to get tumblr was tough. not only did he hate technology, he didn’t like social media either.
“it’s gonna be fun! c’mon, please?” you’ve been bugging him about it for about a week. “spencer, please just download it. if i have to hear (y/n) whine again i’m gonna loose it.” said derek, plopping is papers on his desk. “you like it when i whine.” you teased, causing derek to flash you a toothy grin. “alright! jeez.” you clapped of joy and jumped to help spencer, but he stopped you. “no way, i’m not letting you follow me.” he kept his phone facing away from you, your arms dropping to your sides in defeat. “fine. i’ll find your account somehow.” “we’ll see about that.”
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
over the next few weeks you acquired a few new followers, only one catching your eye. ‘prettyboy187’ followed you on a quiet friday afternoon. the username caught your attention at first, but when you checked is profile? that’s when you were hooked. half of his pictures were just aesthetically pleasing: outside of his window, his extreme sugary coffee, some books. but others...
it was an excerpt of a poem and his hand was holding back the pages. you doubt he meant to capture it so beautifully. just his hand was godly. you wasted no time dming him.
hey :)
how desperate did you look right now? he followed you barley an hour ago. you cant stop staring at that picture.
hello
he didn’t sound happy. well, he didn’t “sound” anything, you guys were texting. but you could feel his tone through the screen. where you overthinking this too much? you shuffled into your bed, wrapping yourself in the covers as you pondered what to say next.
i just wanted to tell you i really like your account. are you a photographer or something?
no, i’m not. my friend convinced me to get this app and i noticed people post aesthetically pleasing photos on here, so i’m just doing the same haha.
ok, well you don’t post nice pictures. at least, not that type. maybe you’d post a picture of the snow or your bed, but every now and then you’d bless the feed with a picture of you in a swimsuit. it was more for opinions on the suit than anything else.
ohh. maybe i should start doing that.
how do you mean?
oh.
that sounded like a very judge-y ‘oh’. your eyes scanned your own profile to see what he could’ve hated. there was you in your favorite red swimsuit, a picture of your computer with netflix on the screen. the rest of the posts were of the same type, so you couldn’t pinpoint what the problem was.
what is it?
no, nothing. your recent picture. that’s a nice swim suit.
oh. that’s what he meant. you practically threw your phone across the room and squealed. thank the universe that he didn’t dislike you already. you shot him another text. just like that, you had your first ever tumblr crush.
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
“what’s up with you pretty girl?” derek asked when you walked into work. you supposed you still had the blush on your face when pretty boy wished you a good morning and day at work. “nothing!” you said, obviously it being something. as if on cue, spencer walked in behind you also giddy. “what, you’re both sweet on someone now?” when neither of you responded, derek laughed. “what?” emily inquired, taking her seat. “spencer and (y/n) both have a crush.” emily’s jaw dropped. “spencer has a crush?” everyone broke into laughter, jj overhearing and almost dropping her files. “why is that so surprising?” spencer defended himself, derek giving him a ‘you know the answer to that’ look. “well?what’re their names?” he pushed. you bit your tongue. you didn’t even know his name. yikes. “let’s start.” aaron called. saved by hotch. thank goodness. “this ain’t over.” derek warned the two of you. yes it was. by the end of the day morgan would’ve forgotten all about this.
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
you were right like always. morgan didn’t ask anymore about it, instead offering to get drinks. you turned it down, desperate to get home and text your boy. and you did, only at 11pm.
hey, sorry it’s so late. had a long day at work.
no worries, so did i. listen, i have a question.
this boy only sent messages that would make your heart drop. with a pacing heart, you texted back.
yes?
his ‘online’ button flashes on. then he was typing. then he was deleting. it seemed like hours before he responded.
what’s your name?
godamnit. you didnt have a display name because you didn’t want anyone you knew finding your account. what’s a fake name you can use? maybe...
lila.
why did you pick spencer’s ex’s name? you don’t know. you remember being insanely jealous of her because she got to kiss spencer in the pool while you were posted outside. your crush on spencer was still very much alive, but not as much as it was with pretty boy.
that’s a pretty name.
thanks. now you have to tell me yours ;)
you’ve never been so nervous for a text conversation in your life. for some reason, the back of your head wondered what it would be like if you were texting spencer. it was just a thought, though. spencer would never say half of this stuff.
call me morgan.
oh NO. please no... you stalked his profile again, terrified that you’ve been flirting with your coworker this past month. alas, your eye caught another body picture- this time of his arm. no tattoos like derek. not to mention he was much smaller. not that that’s a bad thing. you don’t think you’d ever be able to handle derek...
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
you arrived at work yet again with a blushing face. “come on, you can’t keep hiding this from me! tell me something at least!” derek whined. “okay! his name is morgan. and i know what you’re thinking, and no, it’s not you, my boy is much more attractive.” derek’s mouth formed into an ‘O’ shape in fake offense. “that’s damn near impossible. ain’t nobody prettier than derek morgan.” spencer walked in now, again with a dorky smile on his face. “spencer. (y/n)’s got a crush on-“ you jumped to cover his mouth, the sound of your crush’s name muffled. “what- hey! no fair! derek gets to know but i cant?” spencer whined. derek held his hands up and sat back down, not wanting to get you mad. smart. “three can’t keep a secret.” was all you said before sitting down to clean your workspace.
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
the new highlight of your day was texting morgan. you learned several things about him; he has a job he can’t specify for personal reasons, he really wants a dog but he feels like animals hate him. you told him about your cat joel, and how they could absolutely love him. he appreciated that.
if i tell you something, do you promise not to freak out?
depends. are you about to tell me you’re a serial killer?
no!
you giggled to yourself at your humor.
i wanna meet you.
you promised not to freak out, but you were freaking out. it was just now setting in that you didn’t know this man at all. where he lived, how old he was, even what he looked like. you took a few deep breaths and asked a question.
where do you live?
quantico virginia.
no hesitation on that one. he lived in the same town as you? you didn’t know how you’d be able to turn this down...
shit, me too. let’s meet up then.
i’ll send you a good place to get drinks.
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
“every time you walk in here, you’re blushing. now so are your ears.” you beamed at derek, sitting at your desk before spilling. “i’m gonna meet him.” “wait what? are you sure that’s safe?” you rolled your eyes. “i’m an fbi agent. i’m not scared of a little danger.” you playfully winked and derek blew out a huff of air. “if anything happens, you know you can call me.” you pouted at your friend and nodded, appreciating his concern. spencer was spinning in his seat. “you happy too?” you asked. he only nodded and didn’t elaborate. you we’re going to press on, but hotch called you all in and you lost your chance.
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
on rare occasions, the bau got tough cases with very happy endings. this was one of those cases. the plane ride home was extremely joyous and derek offered to get drinks again. this time, everyone accepted (all except hotch). you texted morgan telling him you were going out tonight and you wouldn’t be back till late. you laughed to yourself. it was like he was your boyfriend.
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
the night was young and you were fairly tipsy. ok that’s generous, you were drunk. you were spending most of your time with penelope and it took you a minute to remember spencer. “ohmygosh! spence!” he was startled at your presence but he gave you that flat mouthed smile of his. “how are you! you’re my favorite scorpio.” you nodded as you said it, as if trying to convince him it was true. “thanks? i’m good. you’re drunk.” he pointed out. “no shit. hey!!! you never showed me your tumblr user! you gotta show me that girl you like, bet you she’s really sexy.” you didn’t even know what you were saying at this point, whipping out your phone and snapping a picture with spencer. “what are you doing?” he asked, watching you type. “posting this on tumblr! i want everyone to know you’re my favorite in the world.” he wanted to ask favorite what, but a ping on his phone distracted him. lila posted. he smiled and checked her page.
holy fuck.
♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
“(y/n)?” he asked, not looking away from his phone. “yess?” you responded. “what’s your tumblr?” what is your tumblr? “uhhh..i don’t know, check.” you tossed him your open phone, and his eyes only grew wider. “you’re lila?” the words rang through your ears like a siren. “what?” the word was breathy, you couldn’t add stability to what you said. spencer showed you his phone, ‘prettyboy187’ on the screen. “you’re morgan?” still no confidence in your voice whatsoever. your feelings were supposed to change, you weren’t supposed to like that morgan was spencer. but they didn’t. you didn’t even think about the fact he saw your swimsuit photos. you loved that morgan was spencer, and you still wanted to see him on the weekend. “are you mad?” you asked, not being able to stop yourself from sipping from your glass. “no. should i be?” you smiled. “no. do you still wanna meet up this weekend?” “yes. but i don’t wanna get drinks.” he wasn’t even drinking, why is he complaining. “where should we go then?” “my house.”

mcyt/dsmp tumblr guide!
I saw that a lot of people from Twitter are moving here to Tumblr. First of all, welcome! Second of all, I know how hard it is to get adjusted here so I made this guide for y’all to have an easier time!
Click on the read more because this is a really long post. If you know how to use Tumblr and only want info on the etiquette, here’s a post with only the etiquette.
Edit 04/27/2022 10:24 AM EST
Hi again everyone! This post is currently outdated with the recommendations though it’s still okay for the most part. Feel free to reblog, as anything under the read more will always remain updated even after edits! This’ll be fixed eventually
(Points and important information are in bold)
Before I get into it, I’d like to say that Tumblr doesn’t get any personal information from you besides your email. Whatever you put out is what people see. It’s very anonymous, take advantage of it. We don’t dox people here at all.
Contents: Starting your blog, Interacting with others, Posting, Tagging & Tagging Etiquette, Other, Blogs I recommend
Starting your blog
-Pick a username for yourself. This will also be your blog’s URL. You can change your blog’s name as much as you’d like, so don’t worry too much about it. Just don’t use your real name because only the porn bots on here have “real” names. (Ignore/block them)
-Customise your blog’s appearance. When you go to your blog’s page, there is a painting palette icon on the top right. From there, you can edit the appearance of your blog. On Desktop, you can utilise themes to personalise your blog even more.
-Put something in your bio. You can meme and put anything you want. I recommend not making it too long, though. People usually put their names & pronouns. Remember, give out the information you want to give out.
-Pinning posts. You can pin a post and it’ll remain at the top of your blog until you either remove it, or pin something else. This is where you’d put an intro post if you’d like to tell more about yourself, link your socials/carrd or how you tag things on your blog.
-Customise what’s visible. By default, people can see your likes and follows. On Mobile, you can click on the likes/following tab and then click “change”. From there, you can disable people viewing them. On Desktop, you need to go to settings, click on your blog and then you can disable it. Hardly anyone but new users and big blogs show either of these so feel free to private them.
-How to disable the archive. On Desktop, every blog comes with an archive which can be used to look at all the posts a person’s made and sort by date. There’s no setting to disable it so if you want it removed, go to your blog and press the palette button. Click ‘Edit HTML’ and locate the line of code that says this or something similar: ‘{lang:Archive}’. After that, you want to insert a new line before that line and type ‘’. The line you located should turn gray. Update the preview and double check that everything looks fine before saving. To add the archive back, just delete the ‘’ you added.
-Asks and submissions. By default, no one can send you asks and submissions. You can toggle this by going to settings on both desktop (settings > blog) and mobile. Asks can either be anonymous or not (this is also toggleable) and people can use it to send questions, sh*tpost, have discussions, etc. while submissions are (to my knowledge) not anonymous but it’s basically like being able to send a person a whole post with links, tags, etc.
-Filter out tags for things you don’t want to see. On desktop, you just need to click on settings while on mobile it’s settings > general settings > filtering. Make sure to include [xyz] tw, tw [xyz], cw [xyz], [xyz] cw, [xyz], and [xyz] mention when filtering.
Interacting with others
-Customise your dashboard. When you start, your dashboard is very empty. Tumblr’s algorithm is almost nonexistent and you customise what you see. Follow blogs and tags as much as you like, because this is what is going to fill up your dashboard.
-Sending in asks. A lot of blogs have their asks open and you can send them on or off anon (if they enabled it). On Desktop, you can include photos, gifs, etc. This is one way to get mutuals. You can also sign off an anon ask with a nickname so that people know it’s the same person. Ex: -🥄 or -Party anon. If you’re not sure if a person already has a ___ anon, feel free to ask!
-Replying to posts. If someone didn’t disable replies, you can reply to their posts. You can use this if you want to say something about the post but don’t want it to appear on your blog. Make sure to @ the person you’re replying to if it wasn’t their post, otherwise they won’t see that you replied to them.
-Reblog posts. As said earlier, people fill up their own dashboards, there isn’t much of an algorithm here. Likes are just a number, reblogs are the primary way posts circulate. It’s not an obligation, but it is highly encouraged to reblog artists’ and writers’ works.
-It is okay to block people. If they’re doing something bad, you find them annoying, etc. just block the person. Do not make call out posts and public blocklists. If you want, you can message your mutuals (they have a green star in your follower tab) and tell them not to interact with the person. No one is notified when you block them, you will stop appearing in their dashboard and they will stop appearing in yours. If they try to visit your blog, it'll display as if the page isn't working & give an error if they try to reblog your posts.
-It’s okay to ask someone to use a trigger warning tag. If you follow someone whose posts can have something that triggers you/makes you uncomfortable. you can ask them to tag it so you can filter. They’re not obligated to use it, but there’s no harm in asking! You can always unfollow them in case it bothers you too much.
Posting
-Format your text. Tumblr has a bunch of options for formatting text and it’s very useful. You can bold, italic, strikethrough, or even COLOUR your text! :D
-Queue/Schedule your posts. Optional, but they allow you to keep your blog active and avoid spam reblogging. The difference between the two is that scheduling posts allows you to choose the exact time a post goes out.
-When reblogging, you can either type what you want to say in the post itself or in the tags. Tags disappear when someone else reblogs your post and they don’t appear in the replies. Only the person you reblogged the post from gets a notif about the tags. It’s down to what you prefer.
-Tag properly. Tags are part of the only way to categorise, search, and find posts, so tagging a lot of things incorrectly can cause a lot of problems for other people. This brings us to the next segment, tagging:
Tagging & Tagging Etiquette
-Use tags to organise posts. Tags are useful for people searching for stuff on your blog + it helps you post get discovered. I recommend also tagging people that sent you an ask for organisation (ex: #cat anon)
-Using tone indicators. They work exactly the same as on Twitter, but are more commonly located in the tags, asks, or replies.
-Put trigger warnings in the tags. This allows people to filter the posts they don’t want to see. Keep them consistent and simple. Most people use [xyz] tw or tw [xyz].
-Tag critical/discourse, etc. when applicable. Don’t put discourse on the main tag so that it won’t be shown to people that don’t want to see it. This is not optional. Use #[xyz] critical or #c![xyz] negative, not #[xyz].
-Use spoiler tags when posting about recent events. Usually you’d need to tag events for 2-7 days after they happen, depending on the fandom. (Ex: #dsmp spoilers, #3rd life spoilers)
-If your post is long, tag it with #long post. You don’t really need to do it if it’s short with a read more. Some people aren’t okay with scrolling past long posts. On desktop, you just need to go to an empty line and click the three dots on the side to add a read more. On mobile, you need to type :readmore: in a new paragraph.
-Do not crosstag. It doesn’t get your post more exposure, it just annoys people and clogs up tags with unrelated things.
-Do not use #mine/craft, #mine/blr or #mine/craft youtubers (without the slash) unless you are talking about the actual game. There are people that don’t want to see things about mcyt, dsmp, etc. and we don’t want to clog up the tags. The tagging system will include the last one because it still contains #mine/craft.
-Don’t use #hermitcraft for 3rd Life content. 3rd life is a completely different series and deserves its own tag. Yes, a bunch of hermits are on the server, but by using the Hermitcraft tag, you flood the tag with non-Hermitcraft posts.
-Don’t use #hermitcraft for crossovers with the Dream SMP. Use #hc x dsmp so that the Hermitcraft tag isn’t flooded.
-(Hermitblr exclusive) Don’t put posts with ships on the main tags. Separate the content so that it’s not shown to people who don’t want to see it. Instead, use the tags: #hermitship, #hermitshipblr, #hermitshipping. Avoid using the main character tags as well ex: #grian, #impulsesv. Use the ship name tags instead ex: #jleo, #grumbo, #scardubs.
-If you see someone using the wrong tags/tags they shouldn’t use, politely tell them. Ex: Someone used #mine/craft on a Dream SMP post, so you tell them in their asks/replies that the Mine/craft tag is exclusive to the actual game.
-Search it up if you don’t know what to tag your post.  Go to Tumblr’s search and see how other people are tagging things similar to your post. There’s many alternative tags here (ex: #dream smp vs #dsmp) so don’t worry too much about it. I also have a list of tags you can use:
(#[ign] is usually used for the CC and character. If the character’s from the Dream SMP, you can tag #c![ign])
Mcyt: #mcyt, #mcytblr
3rd Life: #3rd life, #3rd life smp, #3rdlife, #3rdlifesmp
Dream SMP: #dream smp, #dreamsmp, #dsmp, #dsmpblr
Dream Team: #dream team, #dreamteam, #dteam, #dteamblr
Empires SMP: #empires smp, #empiressmp, #empiresmp, #empiresblr
Hermitcraft: #hermitcraft, #hcraft, #hermitblr
Origins SMP: #osmp, #origins smp, #hybrid smp, #powers smp
Sleepybois inc: #sleepy bois inc, #sleepy boys inc, #sleepyblr, #sbiblr
Tales from the SMP: #tftsmp, #tales from the smp, #talesfromthesmp
Other
-Don’t use ‘<’ in asks because it’ll delete everything that appears after it in the ask.
-Block anyone who calls themself an anti-anti or pro-ship. Just don’t deal with it.
-If a post seems really personal or the op said they’re gonna delete it later, either don’t reblog, or ask if you can.
-It’s not required, but much appreciated if you add image/video descriptions for the people who use screenreaders. Guide on it here.
-Follower counts are always private. We don’t do follow for follow here, Tumblr clout doesn’t matter.
-Edits on posts do not appear on reblogs that happened before the edit. Edits are still seen on the original post + if it was under a read more.
-Tumblr is very hungry and may accidentally eat your asks. If someone doesn’t answer, you can always ask if it went through.
-Your blog is for yourself, so don’t feel pressured to post about one thing only or feel bad about spam reblogging. Your blog is what you like, and if other people go: “hey! I also like this!” then that’s great!
-Reblogs alone don’t automatically give a post more exposure. You need to tag reblogs so that they show up and get recommended to people. Unless you have a large following, there’s a minuscule chance an untagged reblog would get any attention at all. This is incredibly important if you’re reblogging to share an artist’s work or something similar.
Blogs I recommend (aka me exposing who I follow on my other blog):
Tumblr History: heritageposts, hellsite-hall-of-fame
Mcytblr History: mcytblr-hall-of-fame, penis-smp-archive, mcytblr
Community (mostly artists) : timedeo, poorlydrawndsmp, cyani07, wooteena, beacon-lamp, ups1gbt3f7op3dr, kazuallyy, chiyahowo, taytei, linktoo-doodles, moncuries, bansq, sunlit-mess, kateis-cakeis, geoguessbur, metfell, craftiebo, lucylee158, qarameiio, wolfythewitch, cloudzaminecraft, jazetallo-art , wembly-art,  hermitcraftheadcanons, pomodoko
(Didn’t want to notify them so I didn’t @ them, edit: added more blogs, rip to people who rbed this before the addition of penis-smp-archive, a blog that contains the history of the fake SMP dsmpblr made in response to an anti. Despite being called Penis SMP, the most nsfw thing about it are the character names.)
I hope this was helpful, welcome to Tumblr!

"What the hell happened?" I ask Fred as I walk through the lobby to the elevator of the hotel.
"Just a dumb fight that got thrown out of proportion and Nikki snapped," He explains. "They spent, like, five hours tops in jail until they were let go." He adds. "And Nikki's still asleep so--"
"--Where's the copy of his key?" I ask him once the elevator doors open and he mashes the button of the floor they're on.
"...Vivian, I don't know if--"
"Where is the key?" I ask him and he hesitates for a moment before digging in his pocket.
"Don't go starting shit with him, Viv, I'm serious." He states and I roll my eyes as the doors open, and I look on the key chain to see what room he's in. "Sixx, I'm serious," he calls as I walk down the hall.
"If he's man enough to be big and bad and scare the shit out of complete strangers and embarrass me some more then he's man enough to get his ass kicked for it!" I reply.
I'm unlocking the door and immediately, I'm met with a God-awful smell which lets me know he hasn't showered in a long time.
I'm too angry to go throw up in the bathroom, although I'm sure it's worse in there, and I step over empty bottles, dirty clothes, bloody towels, spoons, foil, and empty coke bindles before I'm crawling onto the bed and standing over him, track marks eating away at his pale white skin, dark circles hugging his eyes, an irritable, tense grit of his teeth, even while he sleep he's in a pissy mood…
That makes two of us.
I pat at his face probably harder than I should, the first thing out of my mouth is, "get the fuck up, you bitch," I bark out.
It takes him less than twenty seconds to get awake enough that he realizes he's not dreaming.
"You fucking cunt!" He screams at me, fighting me off of him.
"Oh, I could say the same about you Mr., 'I'm gonna throw a bottle of Jack at one of my friends and hit the bystander next to him instead'!"
"You weren't even fucking there, you don't what the fuck happened!" He shoves me off of him.
"Then what the fuck happened, Nikki?!"
He just rolls his jaw and stares at me with a "go to hell" cut to his eyes.
"What the fuck do you want, Vivian?" He finally gets out, sitting up.
"Doc--"
"--Ohh, fuuuck me." He sneers out, irritated, pulling the covers back and standing up.
"Well, what do you expect him to do, Nikki?!"
"Stay out of my goddamn business, Vivian, that's what I expect him to fucking do--just like I expect you to fucking do." He states, going to the bathroom, leather pants hanging too loosely on his hips.
I glance around the room as I hear him flush the toilet and curse under his breath, hearing the sound of him splashing water on his face.
"I'm well aware what you do isn't my business, Nikki. Trust me, I know it isn't. I know you'd rather die than tell me anything you do or who you do it with or--"
"--You flew all the way to Japan to fucking fight with me over something you weren't even here to be bothered by?" He rhetorically snaps.
"I was bothered by it, Nikki, because the shit you do here gets back to L.A., and people talk about it and it reflects badly on me."
"So you're not here because you care about me or you're worried about me, you're here because you're being embarrassed by bad Nikki's actions. Oh, how terrible!"
I head to the bathroom, my hand balled up in a fist and when he sees me about to hit him he grabs my hair, making me wince.
"Hit me." He tells me, daring me to.
I decide it's not a good idea.
"That's what I thought." He lets go of my hair.
I watch him for a second and wrinkle my nose.
"You need a shower." I say to him. "And you need to brush your teeth."
"You need to go back to L.A." he mumbles.
"No." I say back as he picks up a razor to shave his stubble. "Don't shave yet, I like it." I reach for the razor and he glares at me.
"Not like you're benefiting off of liking it anymore, Miss, 'I refuse to even let my own husband touch me'." He scoffs.
"Because you don't want to touch me. You're always saying and doing mean shit to me." I argue.
"Fuck you."
"Get a shower." I roll my eyes and slam the bathroom door.
I get all of his gross, slimy clothes in a corner and clean up all the towels before I get rid of the empty drug bindles and baggies, spoons, and needles.
When he gets out, I'm glancing at him as he looks like a drown rat.
"We're going to my room." I tell him, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"No, I'm not." He argues.
"Nikki, it smells like utter shit and ball sweat in this room and it's disgusting. I'm not letting you stay in here like this."
***I didn't know how he was going to argue with me over that when he knew it was true. He just glared at me and probably thought about running me over, but I didn't care. I wasn't leaving him by himself and I wasn't staying in that room.***
I crawl into the bed in my room that Doc got for me and let out a soft sigh, turning over to face Nikki.
I can't help but stare at him, seeing the faintest outline of his fingers coming up to rub his eye for a moment before falling back above his head.
I get a little closer to him, feeling him tense up slightly beside me.
"Don't do it." He says abrasively, and I get even closer, my leg slithering across his front until I'm straddling him, his lungs pushing out a sharp sigh as I ask, "do what?"
"You know what." He replies.
"I do?"
I run my thumb across his cracked lips, my own lips pressing to his stubbled cheek.
"Vivian."
"You love me." I tell him quietly, bringing up his drunk phone calls to me, pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth.
"Yeah." He doesn't deny it, his tone as if he knows he's in deep, now.
"Yeah." I repeat it.
His hands run up my back, I can feel the scabs on his arms rub against my bare skin as he wraps his arms around me, and the feeling sends a clammy sickness to my stomach as his hand tangles in the hair at the nape of my neck.
"Do you really?" I ask him softly, the tip of my nose brushing against his.
"Yeah," he repeats, swallowing thickly his other hand coming up to brush hair from my face before guiding my lips down to his.
It's chaste—possibly because he doesn't have the will or the energy to kiss in a way that's going to result in us fucking the life out of each other being that he's already over half-way there by the looks of it.
"Can you call Bob for me?" I test it out, deciding I've gotten him where I want him the best to my ability to propose to go back to rehab.
Our facade shatters.
I see his face twist in the dark of the room that's only light by the city lights and the light from the smoke detector in the corner.
Next thing I know, we're both on the floor, his hand around my throat, his thigh between my legs as he hovers over me.
"You think you're gonna fuck me into handing my balls over and going to rehab?!" He snarls like a mad dog and I grab his wrist, breathing as best as I can.
He's not choking me out, I can still get some air in, but not much. I know he's trying to prove a point, but after actually strangling me a few weeks ago, it's not bringing back good memories.
"Nikki, just—"
"—You didn't come here to check on me. You came here to try to manipulate me into going to rehab after I called you fucked up on smack and told you some bullshit in hopes of having a chance at getting my dick wet with you before we split for good." He throws down at me.
"Really sounded like it." I smart back, chuckling, feeling his hand shaking with anger, but his grip doesn't get harder.
"Fuck you."
"You're too sick to, asshole." I argue. "Not that anyone could pay me enough to fuck you right now with how bad you look."
"Oh, please, Vivian, your easy pussy's probably slicker than oil by now given our position." He bites back.
"Wanna check?" I ask.
He shoves off of me, going on about how "fucked up" and "sick" I am.
Pot calling kettle black.

KandiPatterns' New Pattern Maker
Due to the unfortunate, but probably necessary, death of Flash at the beginning of the year, KandiPatterns had to adopt a new pattern maker! With this came some changes, probably for the better.
So, first thing's first, you're going to need an account to make and post your patterns. You don't need to post your patterns, they can be private, but more on that later. If you don't have one, you can create one by going up 'Register' and doing what follows.
Once you've got your account, enter the pattern maker! By that, I mean hit the small green 'make a pattern' button under the pink 'VOTE NOW' button. Once you do that, it'll open a new tab and you'll be met with a (mostly) grey screen. At the top, it'll tell you to use the new alpha pattern maker. Click on the link (the underlined words) in that header, and you'll be on the home page of the new pattern maker. From here, there's a variety of things you can do.
Firstly, if you find a pattern on the site and you want to modify it (be it for a bigger wrist, or you just don't like the colors/have the colors needed) you can go to that pattern and hit 'copy to pattern maker' for editing here. If you'd like to edit a pattern you've previously copied to the pattern maker, you can just click on the pattern under the 'generate template' and 'choose pattern template' buttons. It'll open it in the editor, which we'll get to shortly.
From here, you have a couple of options. You can choose from a variety of pre-made templates, or you can custom generate your own. I always choose to custom generate mine, but you might find that you don't need to do that. If you hit 'choose pattern template', you'll get some multi (or peyote/brick stitch) options, and you'll get a bunch of Perler options. The text here is super tiny, which is also a part of why I prefer to custom generate. Here's what the pattern templates say.
30 x 6 multi stitch
32 x 10 multi stitch
34 x 13 multi stitch
36 x 15 multi stitch
42 x 20 multi stitch
50 x 30 multi stitch
Small square
Big square
Small hexagon
Big hexagon
Small circle
Big circle
Small square (it looks different? idk)
Big square (also looks different than the other big square)
Small square (but in a diamond shape)
Big square (also in a diamond shape)
Small star (6 pointed)
Small heart
Big heart
You can experiment with that, but if you'd prefer to be absolutely sure your pattern will fit in the pattern maker, you can custom generate a template and overshoot how big you think it'll be. Once you open the 'generate template' button, you'll be presented with a few options. The first is to name your pattern, the second is what pattern type you'll be making, the third is for how big your template is in width (or how long it is), and the fourth is how big it is in height (or how tall it is). The last checkbox is to fill your template with a color-- usually you won't check this box.
It's better to have a template being too big than too small, we probably want your entire design to fit on the template lmao. So I usually wayyyy overshoot in my dimensions.
As for pattern types, you got three options. Perler, multi, and peyote. This peyote differers from the pre-generated ones by essentially flipping it on it's side. You'd use the multi type if you wanted to make a peyote charm or panel that has the flats of the beads on the left and right, while the peyote template places the flats of the beads on the top/bottom. That is good for peyote cuffs and more horizontal charms/panels. Perler is exactly what it sounds like-- it's just a square that you can custom-change the size of for your own purposes.
For now, I'm gonna use a Perler pattern for simplicity's sake. Once you figure out what you want and generate your template, you're presented with a buncha tools and options! On the top, here's what those drop-downs have (and what they do) from left to right.
Home takes you back to the main pattern maker page from before
File allows you to make a new pattern instantly, make a new one from a template, download your pattern, save your pattern (privately or publicly) to your account, and print out your pattern
Label allows you to have no labels, label by horizontal row, label by vertical column, or to label different colors with symbols.
Image allows you to upload a reference image or to remove said image. Apparently there's future plans to integrate a pattern generator, but until then, the beadifier works for Perler patterns just fine imo.
On the left, you have your color picker, your pen for drawing, your eraser, your bucket tool, your eyedropper (color picker), undo, redo, trash (which deletes everything on your canvas), and crop transparant area (which helps make your pattern smaller by cutting out unused area, helpful for when you overshot before)
On the bottom you have a count of what colors you've used, and on the bottom right you have a zoom in button, a pan button (click and drag to move pattern around), and a zoom out button. You can also scroll to zoom in/out around where your mouse is.
On the top right you have about, keyboard shortcuts, and the ability to report bugs with the pattern maker. There's also the option for you to log out of your account.
So, you've finished with your creation! From here, you can go to file -> save. A window will pop up, asking for a pattern title and for it to be public or private. Public means it's on the site and is subject to user votes and mod approval (or disapproval), private means it's only viewable in the pattern maker.
That's about all there is to it. If your pattern is public, people can vote on your pattern and it can be approved or rejected (but tbh i've never had anything get outright rejected... so). There will be more on that in the general post about the website.

Beauty in the Blood - Part One
Summary: One day your friend convinces you to join a dating website that matches people based on their search histories, and when you match with Loki Odinson, a handsome, intelligent coroner who’s a fan of your murder mysteries, you’re absolutely thrilled. But there’s something off about Loki, and as your relationship progresses, you discover that his dark side is even darker than you could ever have imagined...
Pairing: Serial Killer!Loki x Writer!Reader
A/N: This story is based off of this post! I hope you guys enjoy; this is my first time writing Loki, and this will probably be the darkest thing I’ve ever written. Please let me know what you think as the story progresses!
Tumblr media
Warning: This chapter contains hints of smut and GRAPHIC descriptions of death and murder. Later on, this fic will also include rape/non con, dub con, kidnapping, yandere/obsessive elements, and even MORE graphic descriptions of death and murder. Please read at your own risk, and as usual, this is only for the eyes of those 18 and older. Thank you, and enjoy!
It was hard to find a decent guy these days. New York was the city of dreamers, artists, and absolute weirdos, and out of the three, you only seemed to attract the latter. You’d been to speed dating events and Singles Night at your local bar, but there was never a connection, never a spark, and every guy seemed to have something fundamentally wrong with him. It wasn’t that you were looking for the perfect guy, it was just that you’d met too many who were demanding, controlling, or misogynistic.
You’d given up on finding your special someone a year after you’d moved to the city. After all, being single wasn’t too bad. You could do what you want whenever you wanted without having to think about someone else. So what if you didn’t have anyone to kiss on New Years? So what if you cried a little every now and then from feeling so alone? It was fine. It was absolutely fine, you told yourself. Fine, fine, fine…
“I’m absolutely fine, Wanda. I don’t need a boyfriend to be happy.”
You were sat across from your good friend, who was stirring her coffee with one hand while she tapped her fingers against the table with the other. She arched a skeptical eyebrow at you before taking a sip of her drink.
“You’re right; you don’t. But you’re lonely,” she pointed out. “A boyfriend would help with that.”
There was no denying that she was right. Wanda was perceptive, and she was also one of your closest friends. You’d met her during your first week of living in New York, and she’d helped you adjust to living in such a busy, fast-paced place. She probably knew you better than you knew yourself, and that was why you slumped in defeat and threw back the last gulp left of your mimosa.
“God, you’re right,” you bemoaned. “I hate it when you’re right.”
“I know,” she grinned. “But don’t worry; I can help.”
“Wanda, not that I don’t appreciate your effort, but the last guy you sent me out on a date with got mad that I didn’t put out after he paid for my dinner. I don’t want to go on any more blind dates.”
She winced, reaching over to pat the back of your hand.
“I had no idea Kyle was like that,” she promised you. “If I’d known he would be such an asshole you know I wouldn’t have set you up. But I wasn’t going to suggest another blind date.”
You tilted your head to the side.
“What did you have in mind, then?”
She grinned and reached into her purse, fishing around until she found her phone.
“I heard of a new dating app that made me immediately think of you,” she explained excitedly, pulling up the website and passing her device over to you. “It matches you with people in your area based on your Google searches!”
“Pfffft.” You scoffed, taking a quick glance at the screen before looking back to your friend. “That’s the worst idea I’ve ever heard of.”
“I know, I know, it’s a strange concept. But it has one of the highest success ratings out of all the dating websites! It’s only been around for six months, but over half of its users say that they’ve found someone they can see themselves spending the rest of their lives with!”
“Statistics can be made up, you know,” you groused. “Besides, one look at my browser history would send anyone running in the opposite direction.”
“Maybe not someone who has one similar to yours,” she pointed out. “C’mon, what’s the worst that could happen?”
“Wanda, you know what I do for a living, right? I could match with some kind of serial killer!”
Your friend just waved you off and ordered another coffee, picking up her phone again and stuffing it into her pocket.
“Just try it? Please?” she begged. “Just give it a shot, and if it doesn’t work out, then that’s that, right? No harm done.”
Several hours later, and you found yourself sitting on your couch, staring at the same website homepage that Wanda had shown you. You bit your lip, letting your fingers skim over your laptop’s keys, not typing anything just yet but feeling their ridges as you considered the “Join Now” button.
There wouldn’t be any harm in it, right? Just like Wanda said, if you hated the kind of people you matched with, then you could always delete your profile. And you didn’t only search things for your research, after all; you also googled recipes and cute animal videos. What if you matched with a gorgeous guy who’d also googled “Try Not To Laugh – Kitten Edition”? Hell yeah.
After taking a deep breath to steel yourself, you clicked on the button, making quick work of filling out the ‘About You’ information. Five minutes later, you’d chosen a profile picture and linked your Google account to the website, and you were ready to sift through your matches. The wheel on the screen turned slowly as your computer processed the information, and you actually jolted when it dinged with the results.
Well. Result. There was only one person who’d shown up with a similar search history as you. You let out a breath you hadn’t known you were holding, and you almost closed your laptop and went to retreat a pint of Ben and Jerry’s from your fridge, calling it a day and forgetting the whole debacle. But then you saw his profile picture and… Holy shit.
He was lean and pale, and your eyes were immediately drawn to his long, black hair. He had it slicked back in the photo with just one strand hanging down over his left eye. In the photo, he was wearing an exquisitely tailored black suit with a black shirt and tie underneath it, and you couldn’t help but let your eyes trail along the lithe contours of his body. He looked as if he were carved from marble; you almost started drooling just from the sight of him.
You jumped again when your computer dinged for a second time, and your eyes widened when you saw that you had a new message in your inbox. With fingers that were just barely trembling, you opened it, skimming over the message from the man you’d paired with.
Good evening. I must admit, I was quite surprised when I got the notification that we’d matched with one another. I’ve had this profile for about four months, and I’d had yet to be paired with anyone.
So he was handsome and eloquent. You clicked on his profile and blinked when you saw his name. Loki Odinson. Wow. Even his name was refined, if not a little strange; it sounded like a name you’d give to one of the characters in your books.
Hello, Loki, you typed out. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I was pretty surprised to find someone else who has such a twisted search history. I don’t know if I should be happy or concerned.
It only took him a few moments to reply.
The feeling is mutual; I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for the morbidity, though. Mine is that I happen to be a coroner for a living. And yours is…?
I’m a writer, you explained, your interest piqued by his profession. I write murder mysteries. So, yeah… Morbidity seems like a fitting way to describe it.
A writer, you say. I happen to be quite an avid reader; would I know any of your work?
I’m not sure; have you ever heard of The Bell Ringer? That’s probably my most well-known book.
You’re kidding.
He sent you a picture, and it was of a pale hand holding a copy of The Bell Ringer, your name glistening in bold font beneath the title.
I’m a great fan of your work, as you can see. I own several of your novels.
Another photo loaded beneath the newest text, and it was of a shelf full of your books. The Shrew Woman, A Night in New Hampshire, The Hanging Woman – nine books in total. The only one that you’d written that wasn’t there was the one you’d just sent out to your publisher, and you suspected that once it was out in stores, it would be joining the ranks of Loki’s shelf.
Wow! It’s always so nice to meet a reader. I’m so glad you like my stuff!
Oh, love, you’re a huge talent. I must say, I’ve found your work rather inspiring.
That’s so kind of you to say!
I know that this is rather forward, but are you doing anything tonight?
You glanced up at the clock you had hanging on the wall – 8:13 pm. It was already pretty late; typically you’d be putting on your pajamas and curling up in bed to do some late night reading here soon. But something inside of you whispered that you should do it; you weren’t spontaneous enough. What if this was an opportunity to meet the One? At the very least, it would be cool to meet such a loyal reader.
It depends on if this guy I’m talking to online asks me out. Do you think he will?
He would have to be a fool not to. I suspect he’ll ask you if you’d like to meet at a café.
Well, then, I suspect I’ll have to say yes.
An excited grin was plastered over your lips as you bantered back and forth, and when Loki sent you an address and a message saying ‘I’ll see you there in twenty minutes’, you jumped off of your sofa and rushed to put on your shoes. You were still dressed in the leggings and oversized sweater you’d worn to brunch with Wanda, and all you had to do was straighten your hair and pull on your boots before you were out the door. The address he’d sent you was within walking distance of your apartment; in fact, you’d been there before, but never on a date.
Your heart was pounding the entire way over, and you couldn’t get over how unlike you this was. You didn’t just get up and meet guys you’d met on the internet on such short notice, much less so late at night. And yet here you were, stepping into the café fifteen minutes after receiving Loki’s message. Your eyes scanned the room, but it appeared that he wasn’t there yet. As you got in line to order, you tried to calm yourself, not wanting to look too frazzled when your date finally showed up. You tried to even your breathing, twisting the fabric of your sleeves between your nervous fingers.
He’s just a person, you told yourself. You’ve been on dates before; everything was going to be fine. Nothing bad was going to-
“Hello, there.”
You gasped and turned around, eliciting a chuckle from the man now towering over you. He was dressed in a set of black trousers with a simple white button-down tucked into them, and his hair was loose and falling around his shoulders. His grin was wide and full of teeth, with just the slightest sinister edge to it. But his eyes were warm and twinkling with excitement and just a hint of mischief. Those clear blue irises brought a smile to your own lips, and you chuckled along with him at your initial fright.
“Sorry, I didn’t hear you walk in,” you explained.
“It’s quite alright,” he assured you, offering his hand. “I know you already are aware, but I’m Loki.”
You grinned and introduced yourself, going to shake his hand, but he smoothly cradled your fingers and drew them up to his lips, pressing a light kiss to your knuckles.
“It’s good to finally meet you in person,” he cooed, seemingly all too aware of how flustered you now were.
You opened your mouth to say something in return, but you couldn’t think of anything to say as silence lay heavily between the two of you. You were saved, though, when the barista called out to you, asking if she could take your order. You spun around on your heel and shot her a grateful glance before ordering your favorite menu item and reaching into your purse for your wallet.
“…And I’ll have a cup of Earl Grey,” Loki stepped in, handing her a card from his open wallet.
“Oh, I could have paid for mine,” you protested, but he waved you off.
“No, no, love. It’s my treat.”
He gave you a tight, close-lipped smile, and you didn’t protest further as he paid for your orders. He led you to a booth in the corner, sliding into the side opposite to yours gracefully. The leather squeaked against your thighs as you shuffled in, and when you were finally settled across from him you caught a flicker in his eye that sent chills up your spine.
It was gone in an instant, though, replaced by the same suave look he’d had while ordering his tea.
“So,” he began, leaning forward with his elbows on the table. “As I said before, I’m a fan of your work. Truly, I have been since your very first novel.”
“’Beauty in the Blood’?” you asked incredulously. “I’m surprised; no one seems to like that one. After reading it, my mom suggested that I start going to therapy.”
Loki chuckled, licking his lips, and your eyes followed his tongue of their own accord.
“Ah, well, whether or not that’s true, it’s still my favorite of your works by far,” he continued. “The parts told by the killer’s perspective were…beautiful. You captured his mind so artfully, it was as if…”
He paused, searching your face for a moment.
“It was as if…you understood him,” he finished.
You furrowed your eyebrows, thinking over his words. He’d skipped right over the small talk you’d come to suspect on first dates, but despite how strange of a direction the conversation was taking, you were…intrigued by it.
“Well,” you started, “I feel like I did understand him.  I mean, sure, he took delight in the killing of others; he saw it as an art form. But as twisted and evil as he was, he was still a person – a person that had come from my mind. Cuz the thing is…”
You paused, gathering your thoughts and trying to find the right words to convey them.
“The thing is,” you spoke carefully, “that every storyteller uses bits and pieces of themselves to tell a story. A story is like a stained glass window – it’s made up of different pieces of an author’s mind and soul, and it comes together to create something greater than the sum of those pieces. So, yes, I think I can understand him; his darkness might be a reflection of my own – deep, deep down.”
You glanced up at him, blinking when you saw the transfixed look upon his face. His eyes were wider than they had been before, and his lips were parted as he listened.
“Sorry,” you chuckled, shaking your head. “I, uh… I got a little carried away. You probably think I’m some kind of freak-“
“I think you’re beautiful.”
His words took your breath away, and when the barista set down your cups on the table, you jumped in surprise.
“Is there anything else I can get you guys?” she asked cheerfully, and a flash of annoyance crossed over Loki’s face at the interruption.
“We’re fine,” you assured her quickly, giving her a polite smile. “Thank you.”
“You’re so welcome!”
You gripped your mug tightly as she walked away, savoring its heat as it warmed up your cold hands.
“So,” you said, desperate to break the sudden silence that had fallen over the table, “you mentioned that you’re a coroner. What drew you to your profession?”
Loki sipped his tea, humming as he thought over the question.
“Well… The conversation has already veered towards the darker side of things,” he mused. “I might as well tell you the story.
“When I was twelve years old, my sister killed herself,” he began.
“Oh, Loki, I’m so sorry-“
“Oh, no, don’t be,” he interrupted. “We weren’t close at all. I was adopted at a young age, you see, and Hella never accepted me. She was cruel, and she took every opportunity she could to remind me of my inadequacies.
“But, as I said, one day she died. At first, we didn’t know how it happened; there were no marks on her body whatsoever. She just looked like she was sleeping as she lay there in bed. We called the hospital, and the police, and eventually the coroners discovered that she’d injected bleach into her arm. Later on, my mother found the syringe under her bed, and all the pieces of the puzzle fit together. We finally knew the how and the when, and I never really cared much about the why.
“…That probably makes me sound like a monster, doesn’t it?”
You sat back, swallowing a scalding-hot sip of your drink before answering.
“No,” you answered, shaking your head. “I don’t think that makes you a monster. She abused you; it’s only natural that you found some relief in her death. I would’ve probably felt the same way.”
He studied you for a moment, tracing the lip of his cup with his index finger.
“I wonder if you would have…” he murmured to himself, so quietly that you almost didn’t hear it.
“Well,” he sighed, plastering a smile on once more and straightening up, “you probably aren’t going to be very keen on a second date if I keep dragging our conversation into subjects like this. Tell me, where are you from? What made you move to the city?”
“How do you know I’m not from here?”
“Love, neither of us have the New York accent, now do we?”
You laughed, and after that the two of you fell into an easy flow; it seemed that the heavy beginning of the date made it all the easier to talk to him. You discussed what you liked about the city and what you didn’t like; you learned that Loki was originally from a small town right outside of London, and that he has an adopted brother named Thor that he was close to.
“He’s an oaf,” he’d said when you’d asked what his brother was like. “Everything about him is literally the opposite of its coinciding part of me. But…he loves me; he never thought of me as the adopted child. I was always just his brother; despite his shortcomings, I think he does mean well. Besides, his IQ level is in the single digits, so I’m afraid I must look out for him for fear of what would happen if he were left to his own devices.”
From there, you shared stories about growing up, about life and ex partners and mistakes and successes. Before you knew it, the happy barista from before was approaching your table again, this time with a nervous smile.
“Hey, guys,” she greeted. “I’m so so sorry to bother you, but we’re closing up…”
Loki glanced down at his watch as you glanced at your phone – 10:30.
“Shit,” you laughed. “I had no idea. Time flies…”
Your date shot a glare at the barista before his eyes flickered to you. He gave you a wide, close-lipped smile and straightened his collar, raising his eyebrows.
“Then I suppose it’s time for us to head out,” he murmured. “May I escort you home?”
“Oh! Of course. If it’s not too far out of your way…”
“Even if it is,” he smiled, “I still want to walk you home.”
Your heart fluttered, and you set a five dollar bill on the table as a tip before standing up. The barista scurried away, and you almost turned to apologize to her for Loki’s cold shoulder. But you didn’t know him well yet; maybe that’s just how he was. Maybe he didn’t mean anything by it.
“You guys have a good night!” she called out after you, and you smiled over your shoulder at her before reaching for the door. Loki’s hand darted out and grabbed the handle before you could, opening it for you with a slight bow.
“After you, my lady.”
“How chivalrous.”
The two of you walked side by side down the street, hands brushing as you strolled down the sidewalk. You glanced upwards, smiling at the scattering of stars overhead as your breath fogged in the chilly air. You shivered, rubbing your arms a little bit to ward off the chill. Loki evidently caught the movement, and you felt his arm drape around your shoulders. You leaned into the warmth of his body, tilting your head up to share a grin with him.
“Again – chivalrous.”
He chuckled, squeezing you for a beat.
“I try my best… It’s a beautiful night, isn’t it?”
“Gorgeous. Not as gorgeous as you, but…very pretty.”
You laughed and hid your face in his neck.
“Stop… You’re too charming.”
“Oh, really? I was under the impression there was no such thing.”
The two of you fell back into a companionable silence as you guided him towards your brownstone, until he spoke up once again.
“I must say… There’s a question that I’ve been meaning to ask you that I’m just…dying to know the answer to.”
“Go ahead, Loki. I’m an open book.”
He laughed softly again, hesitating before voicing his question.
“If you were to kill someone, how would you do it?”
You paused, thinking over your response.
“Well… Why am I killing them? Is it a crime of passion or a crime of necessity? Am I killing them just for the enjoyment of it, or out of revenge, or because the person needs to die for a bigger cause?”
“That… That is actually an excellent follow-up question,” Loki mused. “Let’s say… A crime of necessity. The person needs to die for a personal reason with no anger or revenge in mind. How do you do it?”
You bit your lip, calling to mind all of your morbid Google searches that might apply.
“Um… Air shot between the toes,” you finally said. “Fill a syringe with air and inject it between their toes while they sleep. It’ll look like a heart attack that way.”
Unbeknownst to you, warmth suddenly bloomed in Loki’s chest, and you glanced up just in time to catch the fond, almost…loving gleam in his eye. He quickly looked away, tilting his head up to look at the stars, but you’d caught it. And it wasn’t that it unsettled you; you weren’t uncomfortable because of the look. You were uncomfortable because you hadn’t been upset by it. You’d felt that same flutter once again as butterflies batted around your rib cage.
Nothing more was said as you turned the corner that led to your street, and you silently ascended your home’s steps with Loki’s arm still around your shoulders. You reluctantly slid your key into the lock, only turning to him once your door was opened a crack.
“I had… A really good time with you, Loki,” you told him, craning your neck to look into his eyes. “I know that this isn’t what you’re supposed to say to a guy after a first date; I know that it might scare you away. But I want you to know that I haven’t felt this way in a long… Actually, I’ve never felt this way. And it’s really scary, but I hope… I hope we can do this again sometime soon.”
Loki’s eyes softened, and he moved his arm from around your shoulders to your cheek.
“I haven’t felt his way, either,” he murmured. “But I know that I don’t want the feeling to go away.”
He was leaning forward, his eyes closing, and your heart leapt into your throat as you met him halfway. His lips were cold, and smooth, and soft as they pressed against yours, and you leaned into his touch when he pulled you closer by your hips. A sound escaped your throat as his tongue darted out, licking past the barrier of your mouth to glide itself against yours. His hands came up to cradle your cheeks, his thumbs rubbing against your cheekbones as your lips moved against one another, and you hummed once again as your chests pressed together.
You don’t know who pulled away first, but you spent a moment just taking in one another’s essence, your foreheads pressed together as the fog of your breaths mingled. You heard Loki let out a chuckle, and you looked up curiously.
“What is it?”
“I’ve just…” He licked his lips and let out another soft laugh before pulling away.
“I’ve just never felt like this before,” he repeated.
You smiled and pressed a peck to his lips before walking towards your door again.
“Have a good night, love,” he called after you, and you paused in the doorway to blow him a kiss.
“You too, Loki.”
You shut your door, missing the way his gaze darkened as he stared at the façade of your building.
“Oh, I will, darling. I will.”
__________
Loki hummed to himself, the leather of his gloves squeaking as he clenched and unclenched his fists. The silver of the table gleamed under the fluorescent lights of his basement, and the air was musty, thick with the smell of iron…and decay. Instruments and tools were lined along the wall in front of him - knives, machetes, a hatchet… It was cliché; he knew that. But he just hadn’t been able to resist the temptation while designing this special room.
A muffled scream sounded from behind him, and he rolled his eyes before turning back to the perky little barista who was currently strapped down to another metal table he’d “borrowed” from the hospital morgue.
“Are you honestly still trying to scream for help?” he snarked, raising an eyebrow at her. “I’ve told you; you’re currently under about five feet of solid concrete. Who will hear you? Who will help you?”
The girl let out a sob, and he watched her big blue eyes flicker to the wall just over his shoulder before coming to rest on him again. They were red and swollen, and he let out a coo of false sympathy.
“Oh, don’t worry, little girl. None of these are for you.” He grinned, turning back to the table behind him. “You can thank my new lover for that. No, she inspired me to take a different direction this evening.”
A small, genuine smile came over his face as he picked up the large syringe, turning it over in his hands.
“She’s been inspiring me for a while, actually,” he mused, ignoring the screams as he sauntered over to his victim, syringe in hand. “She’s such a brilliant writer, my darling is. It truly was fate that brought us together; if I’d had known that my favorite author was a beautiful young woman who also lived in Manhattan, well… I’m sure I would have found her sooner. But I won’t dwell on lost time; I’ll just have to make up for it.”
He ran a hand over the girl’s knee, trailing it down her shin even as she struggled against the strong ropes twined around her wrists and ankles. As his hand gripped the arch of her foot in an iron-like hold, he let his eyes close. This was always his favorite part – the moments right before death. The anticipation was like foreplay; it got him just as hot and eager, and the payoff was very nearly comparable. If he were ever asked to describe the feeling of ending another person’s life, of ripping out the remaining chapters from their story before it could be written, the only thing he’d be able to compare it to was an orgasm. That white-hot pleasure that flooded his veins was addictive, as was the lead up he was experiencing right now.
“You know,” he mused, slowly drawing back the plunger of the syringe, “my girl is so smart… Not a lot of people would think to off someone like this. But it’s not as easy as you would think; you can’t just use any old syringe. It has to be big, has to be a lot of air. And you have to be careful; if you hit muscle, it won’t be fatal, and the whole endeavor would be for naught. But if you hit a vein, and if you get a big enough pocket of air…”
The duct tape on her mouth did little to quell her scream as he inserted the needle into her flesh. A novice might not be able to find a vein, especially not in a foot, but the years of medical school paid off, just as they did every day at his job. He injected the empty cartridge into her vein, groaning and letting his eyes drift shut. He was slow about removing the needle; the separation of steel from skin was slow, intimate… Gentle.
“Hush…” he whispered, drawing out the word with a hiss. “It’s done now, love. It’s done.”
He let his arm fall to the side, and he took a step back, watching the girl start to settle down as he put some distance between them. He gently set the syringe down onto the table before crossing the room to the armchair in the corner. Letting out a soft grunt, he lowered himself into the seat, crossing his legs and letting his head fall back.
“Fuck, what a day,” he sighed. “This isn’t what I was expecting when I woke up this morning.”
Loki lifted his head and gave the young girl a wry smile.
“As you may have guessed, this isn’t my first time doing something like this,” he began. “But I do try to limit myself. I may take…five victims a year. Maybe six or seven if I’m particularly stressed. My last one was on New Year’s, though. I’m not due for a killing for another few months, but… That girl really had me going.
“I was hoping that she’d invite me in tonight,” he confessed. “Though I wasn’t expecting it. It was our first date, after all. But a man can hope, can’t he? If she had invited me to stay the night, you wouldn’t be here right now. Alas, though… I had all of these pent up feelings that I had to do something with. And you were so…obnoxious back at the café. I couldn’t tell if you were being genuine with your disgusting, overbearing cheerfulness or if it was as fake as your blonde hair. But, god, did it get under my skin…”
The girl let out a sob, and he noticed that she was beginning to shake. He chuckled, feeling himself grow hard in his trousers as he thought of you. You’d come up with this idea, this beautiful, drawn-out murder. Such a sweet, innocent looking girl on the outside. But such delicious, pure wickedness within.
“Fuck,” he huffed, palming himself through his pants. “Despite the nuisance you made of yourself, today was so perfect… She’s the One, you know. The one and only girl who can ever complete me. I didn’t even believe in this sort of thing this morning, but for the first time in my life, I’m glad I was wrong.”
He forced himself to still his hand, moving it to his knee as his jaw clenched. In the past, he’d done this in front of a few of his victims; male or female, if they were pretty, young things, the act of killing them made him so hard that he had to touch himself as he watched them squirm on his table. But not tonight, not after you. That part of himself was only for you, now, and he was strong enough to resist the urge until his was the only heart beating under his roof.
And so he sat back and watched. At first, the girl only shivered, and after thirty minutes he was afraid that he hadn’t injected enough air into her. But then he noticed the way she was breathing; it was like she was a fish out of water, and the slope of her furrowed eyebrows betrayed the pain she was in.
“Does it hurt?” he asked, voice thick. At first she didn’t answer, but then, almost imperceptibly, she nodded. He hummed in understanding, hiding his grin behind his hand as he scratched his chin.
“How marvelous.”
He knew she wouldn’t last long when her skin started to turn blue. After an hour, the seizures began, jolting and shaking her body as if she were a ragdoll. He watched in fascination, his cold, blue eyes never leaving her tied-up form. Soft, strained whimpers were leaving her throat, and he let out a purr as her eyes rolled to the back of her head.
His joints popped as he stood up, and the heels of his shoes clicked against the concrete floor as he rounded the table, making his way to her pretty blonde head. He slowly, deliberately pulled the duct tape away from her mouth, and he chuckled at how blue her lips had become.
“This is a much better look on you,” he observed. “This is so much more real than those saccharine smiles.”
She finally went still 84 minutes after the injection. Even after her heart stopped beating, he stood over her, watching the unnatural stillness of her chest. Despite all of the corpses he’d created over the years, and despite the years he’d spent in his profession, it was still something that he’d never gotten used to. People weren’t supposed to be that still; people were supposed to blink, and smile, and talk, and breathe, but the things they became after death did none of those things. They didn’t move, and they didn’t feel, and there was always a moment of disgust when he first laid eyes on a fresh corpse.
But it passed quickly, even quicker than normal tonight. The disgust faded away and left behind pure, unadulterated lust as his thoughts strayed once more to you. Typically, he would stay behind, lingering in the basement to dispose of the body. Sometimes, if he wasn’t too tired, he would actually drive out and deposit them in whatever spot he’d predetermined to be the one the police were to find them in.
But tonight, he left the corpse there on the table. He flicked the lights off and climbed the first, then the second set of stairs, peeling off his gloves and petting his cat on the way to his bedroom. He showered, then combed his hair, then settled down between his silk sheets completely naked. Then, and only then, did his hand travel down to his cock, and his mind once again, indubitably, trekked back to you. Your face, your voice, your beautiful fucking mind…
The thought that finally made him cum was the picture of him fucking you in a pool of blood on his basement floor, of the bright crimson painting your skin as he let his hands worship your body. The thought followed him into his dreams, ruby red and throbbing to the beat of his heart as he slept deeply into the night.
_____________
Detective Romanoff stood side by side with her partner in front of the dead body, hands planted firmly on her hips as she chewed her lip.
“How old did you say she was?” she asked the coroner, her eyes flicking down to the rope burn on the woman’s – the girl’s – wrists and ankles.
“Twenty,” was Dr. Odinson’s accented reply. He turned around, glancing between the two detectives before taking a deep breath and turning his attention back to the body. “I’m afraid that there won’t be much investigating for the two of you to do here. The cause of death was a heart attack, pure and simple.”
“A twenty year old girl having a heart attack?” Detective Rogers scoffed. “I think you got your wires crossed, there, Loki.”
Natasha watched as a muscle in the coroner’s jaw twitched, and he let out a frustrated huff as he peeled off his medical gloves.
“Detective, this sort of thing happens all the time – freak accidents that can strike even the healthiest of people. They are…unfortunate, but they’re also a fact of life.” He tossed the balled up gloves into a trash can and whisked past them, bending over to type something into the laptop resting on his desk as he continued speaking to them.
“After reviewing her medical records, I found out that her father died two years ago from a heart attack; if I were a gambling man, I would say that a bad set of genes were the only culprit here.”
“What about the marks on her wrists?” Natasha asked. “They gotta mean something, right?”
“Oh, I’m sure they do,” Loki smirked, cutting his eyes over at her before straightening up. “It probably means that little Miss…” He paused, glancing down at a paper resting beside his computer. “Miss Allison Berry was into bondage before her untimely demise.”
“A woman is lying dead, Odinson,” Rogers spat. “Show some respect.”
Loki raised his hands up in surrender as he sauntered towards them.
“I apologize if I offended you, Detective,” he replied coolly. “I meant no disrespect. But I’ve run all the tests in the book. There were no signs of sexual assault, no signs of foul play. I’ll type up a proper report for the two of you, but I’m telling you now – the girl died of a heart attack.”
Natasha and Steve shared a look before turning back to the doctor.
“Have the report ready for us before the end of the day,” she ordered, patting Steve on the shoulder and gesturing for him to follow her as she made her way out of the cold morgue.
“Whatever you say, Officer.”
Natasha froze mid-step, feeling the hairs on the back of her neck bristle as a thousand images flashed through her mind after hearing him say that word. She gulped, oblivious to the confused look Steve was giving her, and she kept walking without turning back around.
“It’s Detective, now, doctor.”
The door clicked shut behind them, cutting off Loki’s dark chuckle as he was once again was left alone with Allison Berry’s body. His smile didn’t fade as he pulled on another pair of gloves; if anything, it grew as he finished the young woman’s autopsy.
“I was being honest with them; you know that, don’t you?” He winked at the girl’s unseeing eyes, his hands moving of their own accord as he stitched up the clean line he’d cut through the skin, bone, and muscle of her chest.
“It was just a heart attack.”

Lee says:
Transphobic and homophobic trolls have been on the internet forever, and sadly it looks like they won’t be going away any time soon. Ain’t nothin new.
I’m a pre-med college student with a wonderful partner and plenty of friends, and I’m happy, loud, proud, and living my life. I came out 8 years ago and never looked back, so nobody is going to stuff me back in a closet. Trolls don’t have any more power over me or my life than the power I give to them, so I’m not going to be afraid because there’s nothing to be afraid of. Like ? Ohh noo, what if someone sends something rude to my inbox?? whatever will I do, I sure wish there was a “block” button ...
But while I personally don’t feel concerned about this particular troll effort and I’m no stranger to rude and hateful anons, you should always take whatever steps you feel like you need to take in order to protect your mental health.
If you get anon hate, or are worried about getting anon hate, here are a few options:
Step one: Don’t reply to the ask, and don’t delete the ask- block them! You can’t do this in the Tumblr mobile app, but if you’re on the computer-version of the Tumblr website you can block an anon in the inbox, which will also delete their ask. Often anon hate is just from like 1 user pretending to be different people.
Step two: If you keep getting hateful anon asks from different anons, you may want to check the tags on your original posts. You might be accidentally using a tag that discoursers use, which makes it more likely that you’ll attract hate from people scrolling through that tag. You may also want to avoid tagging or using key words in your posts, so censoring things when necessary can help avoid your blog from showing up in searches.
Step three: If you don’t want to appear in search results at all, you can always remove your blog from all search engine results (including Tumblr’s) by turning off the “Allow this blog to appear in search results” option in your blog’s settings on the web. This means your posts won’t show up in the “recent” posts if you search on Tumblr, and it makes it harder for people to search within your blog itself.
Step four: If that doesn’t work, and you’re still getting anon hate, turn off anon. People can’t send you anon asks if anon asks aren’t enabled. People are less likely to send hate when their URL is attached- it doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to avoid getting hate, but it does make it way less likely.
On the Tumblr website on the computer, click “Settings” under the account menu at the top of the dashboard, then on the right side of the page, choose the blog you’d like to update. In the Ask section, enable “Let people ask questions.” Then uncheck the box that says “Allow anonymous questions.”
I’ve turned off anon asks on a number of my blogs, including @brownandtrans because there’s no reason someone has to be sending me questions anonymously in some places. I know you might get fewer asks, but you have to ask yourself if that’s an acceptable trade off, and honestly it usually is.
Step five: Your other option is turning off asks entirely and turning off submissions. You can similarly restrict replies so only blogs you follow can reply to your posts, and you can restrict messaging so only blogs you follow can message you. That way people can only send hate via reblogs.
It’s reasonable and valid to be upset about people being transphobic in your inbox, and I’ve been through the same thing so I know how you’re feeling. It sucks. But you don’t have to be passive about it! If IRL transphobia was something you could control your exposure to and simply turn off in the settings we’d all be a lot happier, but that isn’t the case. But that is true in some cases when you’re online, so why not take advantage of the opportunity?
If you’re getting a lot of hate, it’s worth blocking those asks and then turning off anons or asks entirely for at least a month and seeing how it goes. Your social media is supposed to be safe space for you, and you control what content you want to be seeing and interacting with, so there’s no reason you have to allow people to send you asks at all if it’s going to be negatively impacting your mental health. Even if you haven’t had any trolls yet but you’re really anxious about it and it’s affecting your mental health, it’s okay to take the steps you need to take to protect yourself.
Step six: Hide your blog entirely and password protect it. Only tell your blog’s password to people you trust and want to interact with, like friends or mutuals. This is another option in your blog’s settings on Tumblr. Now the only people who can see your blog are the people you’ve explicitly given permission to.
TLDR: You don’t have to take all these steps if you don’t feel like you need to, but at the very least don’t reply to anon hate (stop feeding the trolls, it isn’t helping you or the best way you can spend your efforts to help the movement) and block the ask instead.
Note: These are my tips for Tumblr specially, so you should look through your privacy settings and options on any social media site you use to see what your options are!
But honestly, I don’t really predict much more trolling this June than we experience in general. Most of these troll campaigns are a lot of bark and no bite, and they usually end up creating more fear and anxiety when people warn each other about it than from the troll’s actual actions, in my opinion. Sadly, we can get homophobic and transphobic anons at any point in the year.

Tumblr media
tutorial under the cut.
the first thing you’ll need is a screen recorder; a program to record your screen and save it in a video format onto your computer. i personally use the in-game overlay from geforce experience, but if you don’t have an nvidia graphics card, i’d recommend fonepaw screen recorder. the trial version is completely free and lasts for an unlimited time, but only has a maximum recording time of three minutes; that should be plenty for our purposes, though!
Tumblr media
for this tutorial, we’ll be using the geforce experience overlay, but if you have any questions regarding fonepaw, feel free to ask!
the geforce experience program should be installed on your computer by default if you have an nvidia graphics card, so simply search for it. you’re going to need to create a new user if you don’t already have one, but if you play games, you definitely should, because this is also where you’d go to keep your driver up to date. to enable the in-game overlay, simply click on the little settings cogwheel to the top right next to your user. make sure that the “in-game overlay” is enabled.
Tumblr media
you can adjust your shortcuts by clicking the settings button in the in-game overlay section, then going to keyboard shortcuts. the only one you really need to worry about for this purpose is the “toggle manual recording on/off and save” shortcut under record. mine is set to ctrl+r, but it can be anything you want really. just make sure it doesn’t conflict with any shortcut in game, as that might be inconvenient.
now, to start recording your screen, simply launch the game and get your desired framing. staying in tab mode whilst recording is preferable, seeing as your screen recorder will record your entire screen, including the ui. press your shortcut keys, and a little pop-up should show momentarily in the top right corner to let you know that you’ve started recording (this won’t show up on your finished recording, don’t worry). to stop recording, press the same shortcut keys again, and a similar pop-up should tell you that the recording has been saved. i usually record for about 3-10 seconds, but don’t worry too much, as you can trim down the recording later. do keep in mind that longer recordings will obviously take up more space and take longer to process.
if using fonepaw, you’ll need to have the program open alongside your game for it to work. also keep in mind that after recording once, you’ll need to go to the program to either hit save or discard recording before you can record a second time.
Tumblr media
once satisfied with the recording(s) you’ve gotten, close down your game and open up photoshop, then go to file > import > video frames to layers and locate your recording. for the geforce experience overlay, they should be located in this pc > videos, and for fonepaw they’ll be located in documents > fonepaw by default.
if you don’t have photoshop, you can use the video to gif converter at ezgif.com. it won’t give you as many options for editing, but it’s really quick to use and learn.
Tumblr media
i personally use photoshop, so that’s what we’ll be using for this tutorial. if you have any questions about ezgif.com, don’t hesitate to ask. i’ve used it myself in the past! after opening up the video file, you’ll get this pop-up. this is where i usually trim down my recording if it’s too long. you can do that by dragging the two lower arrows back and forth. i just leave the “limit to every x frames” option alone, but you could mess around with it if you want. a higher number will result in smaller file size, but will also make the gif less fluid. keep the “make frame animation” ticked.
when clicking ok, you might get a pop-up saying “this will produce a large document and possible take a long time”. either just click continue or trim down the length of your recording further. this might help with lag and unresponsiveness if your computer isn’t the strongest.
Tumblr media
once everything has loaded in, go to window and make sure that timeline is checked.
Tumblr media
it’ll make this neat little line appear at the bottom of your workspace, showing you each individual frame of your gif, allowing you to play the recording and adjust the time each frame will be shown for. most times i’ll just leave mine at the default 0,02. you can also delete individual frames to fine-adjust the length.
this is also where i crop the gif if needed. simply select the crop tool and crop it like you would a picture.
Tumblr media
don’t forget to resize! i always resize to 540 pixels in width, because that’s how wide a tumblr post is. if i want to place two gifs next to each other, i resize to 268 pixels to save on file size. just leave the resolution and resample options as is.
Tumblr media
now is where you can play around with editing and such! just make sure that your adjustments are at the very top of all the layers and that you don’t merge the gif layers themselves.
Tumblr media
to save your gif, you need to go to file > export > save for web (legacy). if you’re on an earlier version of photoshop, it might be called something slightly different, but it should be located under file regardless.
Tumblr media
here are the settings i use. you might need to adjust them a bit if your file size is above 3M, because that’s the biggest tumblr will do. you can check the file size underneath the preview to the left, right underneath “GIF”. mine happens to be 2,213M, so i don’t have to take further steps to size it down, but if you do, you can try lowering the colors from 256. it will sacrifice a bit of quality, but in most cases it won’t be that noticeable. resizing further will also make a difference in file size.
always remember to make sure that looping options is set to forever. if not, your gif will only play through the frames once.
Tumblr media
now simply name your gif and save it to your desired location. you can leave the format and settings as is. you might get a pop-up after hitting save, but just choose continue, you should be fine.
if you run into any problems with saving or opening up your gif afterwards, try saving it as a .psd first and restart photoshop, then open up the .psd and try the saving process again. sometimes when working with big files, photoshop will run out of memory space and have trouble saving, but simply closing down the program and opening it again should fix it. if not, try resizing the gif to be a bit smaller.
Tumblr media
and that’s it! again, if you have any more questions regarding gif making, please feel free to ask. i’m in no way an expert, but i’ll help where i can.
happy gif making!
