i vote that next year instead of reading Dracula we do a Jeeves & Wooster Book Club. those two never got the rabid tumblr shipping fandom they deserved (disqualified for the sheer technicality of being published a century too soon). we must correct this injustice

People saying Dazai has done more for Sigma than anyone else when my man has been constantly risking his life to save people since before leaving the mafia. He risked his life (and the city) to give Chuuya a choice at 16, he tried to risk his life for Oda in dark era, he risked his life and actually flat lined in Dazai's entrance exam, he risked his life for the agency and got shot, he risked his life during dead apple and has been super gentle with Chuuya after every use of corruption barring the fight with lovecraft, he is now risking his life for Sigma. I am sorry but Dazai has always been a normal person with severe mental illness exploited by his environment and those around him till he was left feeling inhuman and desperate for death. He has been trying again and again and I hate ya'll for acting like this is the first time he's been nice or self sacrificing since the series started.
Edit: it wasn't DEE it was 55 minutes where his heart stopped and Yosano healed him. I mixed that up somehow.

“Failed presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill late last week barring Florida localities from requiring employers to provide outdoor workers with access to water, rest and shade, outraging workplace safety advocates who say the new law will kill people.
Backed by the agricultural and construction industries, the controversial legislation is what’s known as a “preemption” law: It forbids cities and counties from pursuing their own ordinances on a particular subject, in this case protections from extreme heat.
The law effectively nullifies a proposal in Miami-Dade County that would require some employers to maintain a heat safety program and provide employees with water and shade on hot days. The county commission recently withdrew the proposal after the state legislation put its legality in doubt.
The preemption bill recently passed the Republican-controlled state House and Senate, along with a similar measure that prevents jurisdictions from requiring employers to pay livable wages on government-funded projects.
Unions and other progressive groups said blocking heat regulations would endanger farm and construction workers and anyone else who labors in one of the hottest states in the country.
“Someone is going to die as a result of this legislation,” Kim Smith, a telecommunications technician, told HuffPost last month.
Last year, Texas Republicans passed a similar preemption bill that blocked localities from implementing heat protections as well as other ordinances related to housing and labor. The legislation, known as Texas’ “death star bill,” appeared designed to thwart local laws in Austin and Dallas that guaranteed water breaks for workers.
The bill Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) just signed blocks jurisdictions like Miami-Dade County from implementing their own heat safety standards.

Florida Republicans pushing for the preemption law said they wanted to avoid a “patchwork” of local regulations around the state related to heat safety, arguing the matter was better left to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
But OSHA does not yet have a heat-specific safety rule, and proposals to create a uniform, statewide standard in Florida have gone nowhere over the years because of a lack of Republican support.
More than 430 workers have died due to environmental heat exposure since 2011, according to OSHA. But relatively few jurisdictions have laws in place that require employers to provide water, shade and heat safety training. Just three — California, Oregon and Washington — mandate heat breaks for outdoor workers. Minnesota has heat standards for indoor workers, while Colorado does for farmworkers.
“Overheating is one of the most common and most serious dangers in the workplace,” Rep. Alma Adams (D-N.C.), who recently co-authored a federal bill ordering OSHA to regulate heat exposure, told HuffPost. “Is requiring a glass of water and some shade too much to ask?”
Climate change is making heat waves both more intense and more frequent, raising fears that a growing number of workers could die if governments don’t implement safety measures.
A farmworker in Miami-Dade County died last July during what would become the hottest month ever recorded. The man’s family told NBC South Florida that he’d recently suffered symptoms consistent with heat stress. A farmworker in the county told HuffPost last month that the foreman at the plant nursery where he works prohibited even 30-second breaks in the blazing sun since this is the busiest growing season for exotic flora.
The Biden administration is currently crafting a federal heat safety standard through OSHA, but federal rules take years to develop, often face litigation and can be undermined by subsequent administrations. Former President Donald Trump could simply drop pursuit of the rule if he defeats Biden in their expected rematch in November.”

It's sickening to see so many people defend rape, torture and murder. So many people who keep reblogging posts about fighting antisemitism but immediately rejoice when horrifying stuff happens to Israelis. So many people whose morals very obviously depend on whether they like someone or not. Kidnapping children, sexual assault, killing people (especially civilians!) is evil no matter who the victim is! I literally cannot comprehend how you can just switch off your compassion for other human beings.
And for what? Hamas and their methods aren't representative of Palestinians and they sure as hell don't give a fuck about their well-being either. They want Israel to retaliate and kill as many innocent Palestinans as possible. And the Israelis that died, their deaths won't help Palestinians either, their suffering continues. Once again hundreds and hundreds of powerless people on both sides die(d). For absolutely nothing.

the whole ‘Eskel is a better witcher than Geralt’ stuff has always made me more sad than anything else. Geralt’s arc as a character is the building acceptance that even though he was raised a witcher and the profession is part of him : he’s a human, and he’s happy to be one.
but Eskel is a witcher. He’s not just ‘better’ at killing monsters he’s ‘better’ at wearing the title. He truly does work to cap his emotions, to succumb to the 9-5, to accept that his mutations make him something separate from the human he was born as.
He sees the stereotypes and the stigmatization of witchering and he only allows himself to step outside these forced boundaries when prompted by Geralt, Lambert, or Ciri, and even then he makes it clear that he’s making an exception.
And that’s not to say his moments of vulnerability and human connection are unnatural to him, he feels love and is drawn to protect those that he loves same as Geralt, but he’s out of practice in acting on these emotions because he’s a case study in survival repression.
He never solidifies a relationship with Ciri in the way Lambert does (in the books), he’s not even shown goofing around with her like Coën. He’s kind to her and he loves her and he goes on to put his life on the line to save her, but the vastness of his self-imposed missed opportunities is sickening. And that’s not even touching on the decay of his relationship with Lambert, or his white-knuckle grip on Vesemir.
Eskel is a good fucking witcher, he’ll dispose of your monsters faster and cleaner than his brothers ever will. But when his niece starts reminiscing on her favorite memories from childhood, he’ll be waiting a long damn time before she says his name.

Many people talking about the things that Gwen had to go through and so on, but Miles literally became the most tragic character in the entire saga at the end of ATSV to the point that he can even have a corruption arc in BTSV, all while he tried to be chill and positive so as not to get bitter just because yes.
Tumblr media
Not only is there everything that he had to go through in ITSV (Horrible things and feelings that accumulated and that yes or yes they are going to explode in BTSV and they are going to blame their friends), but he had a lonely life for a year and a half, with anxieties and panic attacks, wanting to dedicate his entire future to seeing his friends again, only to feel stabbed in the back by them and feeling painfully betrayed.
Tumblr media
And I really can't imagine what Miles's head is like inside after ATSV and in BTSV, the amount of traumas (Some that come from ITSV) and serious psychological problems he's going to have because of his friends that he didn't even care about when they met him except for Gwen. If you think about it, this trilogy is the story of a wonderful boy, who has no malice whatsoever, who never did anything wrong, who never hurt anyone, and even so, he ended up completely broken by things that He was getting out of hand and now he has no problem seeing his friends as his enemies and confronting them.
Tumblr media
And as if that weren't tragic enough, after that, literally his entire WORLD, the thing that gave his life SENSE, collapsed, fell apart, in just a few minutes because of a lunatic who doesn't want anyone in the multiverse is happy just because he couldn't be.

okay, the reply feature isn’t working for some reason, so i’m gonna reply here, @gemblingcraft and @starlight-to-midnight
so y’all really don’t remember how homophobic the UK still was even after section 28 was overturned, huh? and how homophobic it still actually is cuz lesbians are still punished for being homosexual and not wanting to interact with dick? how even afterwards, publishers wouldn’t publish works about explicitly gay characters in children’s books? y’all have the memory of celery sticks.
and literally nowhere has Rowling said anything bad about trans people. but if y’all think that “sex matters” and “lesbians are homosexual females” and “women need female only spaces” are bad, then you’re just homophobic, misogynist idiots. not that i’m surprised anyway.
also, not sure how y’all don’t remember that it was pretty heavily implied that Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald when they were young, cuz i remember reading that, and it was literally over a decade ago. like it was clearly implied that he had serious feelings towards Grindelwald, but after his sister had died, that changed. does no one remember the biography written about Dumbledore in the book?

Was showing some TW3 Lambert scenes to Rae tonight and it's soooo cute that he's such an emotional drunk. Depending on dialogue choices, you can have a scene play out where Geralt's like "you know you're like a little brother to me right?" And Lambert goes "[voice cracking] Why would you say that to me? I'm gonna cry. Come here" and as he moves in for a hug he knocks the empty wine bottle to the floor and just shatters it everywhere ruining the moment asfrtdfgt they're all such a fucking mess
