look ive seen a lot of weird takes about the we didn’t start the fire cover because apparently (?) some people are mad (??) because ‘anyone can put together words that rhyme, they should have put the events in chronological order’ (????) and I’ve decided that look, it doesn’t matter if it’s chronological, because this is it.
It’s events that matter to this generation, and it SHOULDNT sound exactly like billy joel’s version. they’re not going to be billy joel. NO ONE is going to be billy joel. the point of a cover is to make it your own and by making the events out of order it seems more frenzied and crazy, which, to be honest, the events it covers ARE. it IS crazy. and to end with ‘world trade, second plane’? that is INSANE. I got chills. that is a moment that the people who were alive during the event will remember FOREVER. it literally changed the entire course of history and started a spiral of events not only politically but musically as well, starting in an idea and ending in we’ll carry on. It makes perfect sense to end a song about the chaos of the modern and recent world on an event so defining in people’s- relatively recent- lives.
and I saw this pointed out too (I believe by @thekintsugikid) and I wanted to mention it. fall out boy says, ‘we’re trying to fight it.’ In Billy’s version, he said ‘we tried to fight it.’ and look. we are trying. The world is going to shit. We’re all going to die someday, probably in some gruesome way. but we’re trying. we’re trying to fight it. we have hope, this younger generation. we won’t give up. we will survive. persistence, I think, is the biggest part of glory.
and so, it just means something to me. it doesn’t have to be in chronological order. it doesn’t have to be perfect. the boys had fun, and that’s what matters, but I really think that the cover does reflect us overall

“The three [hostages] had been holding up a white flag and were fired upon against Israel's rules of engagement, according to an initial inquiry into the incident, a military official said on Saturday.”
It’s been recorded fact since October that the Israeli Occupation Forces have been deliberately killing unarmed civilians in Gaza and the West Bank. Videos from the siege of Al-Aqsa Hospital show patients and families shot as they hold white flags. Up until this point though, the official line of the US and Israeli government has been to deny the war crimes that are easily visible and documented by multiple sources.
The murder of 3 unarmed, white-flag-waving Israelis by the IOF for the crime of seeming Palestinian is further proof that the IOF is on a campaign of murder and not conquest; the goal of Israel’s assault is to drive all people from Gaza through the random and mass killing of civilians.
Of note is that the Israeli government did not choose to deny this particular war crime. Possibly, government officials decided that Israeli citizens would accept the killing of their own if it were passed off as the actions of a few bad actors instead of the transparent, inevitable results of a mass murder of every human left breathing in Gaza. More likely is that the government was aware that the previous three hostages killed by Israeli forces were used as PR by the Al-Qassam brigades, and that there was no way that the murder of the hostages would stay quiet long enough for Israel to cover it up. Either way—now that the Israeli government’s official line is that its soldiers are killing surrendering civilians on purpose, the US has finally thrown away the last flimsy shred of plausible deniability. Biden is supporting a government that is openly and explicitly enacting a genocide.

“Why do people choose to live in an area where the weather can kill them?”
“Just move then”
“It’s your fault for being there”
“Why aren’t you driving away?”
“YoU cHooSe to LiVe ThErrE”
The comments being made on a video about a recent, mostly unexpected natural disaster
1) how callus and rude
2) please tell me then where everyone is supposed to live since you know everything. Name one place in the entire world where there is no bad weather or natural disasters ever. Name one place free from tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, wildfires, mudslides, sandstorms, snowstorms, floods, earthquakes, heatwaves, cold waves, blizzards etc etc Every area has problems, please tell me where people should go
4) “jUsT MoVe DuH” not everyone has the luxury to just pick up their entire lives and move on a whim- due to things like money, jobs, cost of living in other areas, children, military families who have to be in a certain place, housing market, how expensive moving is etc etc It’s not so simple thanks
3) don’t be fucking stupid, at least pretend you have an ounce of common sense

in my hc the noble houses of menzoberranzan operate similarly to the houses in ice and fire where they’re constantly feuding with each other but instead of trying to take the throne/control of the whole realm they’re all fighting for lolth’s favour instead. and because they can’t outright declare war on each other (forgot the reason for why they can’t exactly do that but iirc lolth doesn’t like it?? she loves the drama I guess) and if they rise too quickly lolth casts them down so they have to be cunning about it. not to mention if they stay too long in power and do nothing about it that also displeases the spider queen so the nobility’s game of intrigue is constantly moving and working both for self gain and for self preservation.
shri’iia also plays the game but more of a pawn than a player. she’s not born from any noble house (she’s actually a commoner). the only reason why she has any foot in the game is that she’s taken in by the matriarch of faen tlabbar - one of the houses who fervently worships lolth to the point of zealotry - when they’ve heard word that she—a commoner—have managed to succeed lolth’s trials and gained her blessing. lolth blessings are rare to come and making someone a paladin is even more rare so for a zealot house, that’s a a sign they can’t pass up. so, the house matriarch takes her in and keeps in a tower where she’s supposed to pray and train to lolth day and night. the paladin oath that shri’iia swears is both for lolth and her matriarch; she swears to punish the enemies of her mistresses and forever keep her loyalty to them. her matriarch’s word is an extension to lolth’s will, so to disobey her will be disobeying lolth herself.
and ofc shri’iia being born poor with everything to give and nothing to lose, who thought that there is more to her life than a merchant’s daughter, to be known by the goddess she worship and noticed by one of the most influential houses in the city, swears herself to that oath. she never regretted that choice not even when she’s kept in that tower in complete isolation with her matriarch being the only person she could interact with.
