Today we celebrate the mission that piqued our curiosities, and drove NASA’s perseverance to pursue further exploration of the Red Planet. The Sojourner rover landed on July 4, 1997, after hitching a ride aboard the Mars Pathfinder mission. Its innovative design became the template for future missions. The rover, named after civil rights pioneer Sojourner Truth, outlived its design life 12 times. This panoramic view of Pathfinder's Ares Vallis landing site shows Sojourner rover is the distance. Terraforming Mars is a popular topic among those wanting to establish colonies on the red planet. With our current technology, it is not possible to terraform the planet, however, recent experiments using aerogels show that it may be at least possible to warm ☀️ local areas. By placing aerogels over Martian soil, warming of soil could thaw buried frozen water 💧 near the surface. . Aerogels are created from gels that have been treated through supercritical drying. In this process, liquid is allowed to enter the gas phase by going around the supercritical point (green arrow lower left panel), thus leaving a solid matrix. . Aerogels have very unique properties. They are very good insulators and have incredible strength in spite of the fact that they are 99.8% air. . TO MARS is my debut album, which combines electronic elements as synthesized piano, strings and other instruments, as well as nature sounds and drones. It represents the most amazing journey that mankind has ever dreamed of. Travelling to the Red Planet.From the “Lift Off”, with the melancholy of leaving Earth behind, passing by the "Lonely Moon", to the encounter with the solitary "Salinar Probe".The long nine months in space, into "The Void", seeing only "Thin Lights" watching Earth shrink in distance.Experiencing "Earth Absentia", through doubts and desolation for being away from home.But then the time comes to realize that "New Frontiers" are in the horizon and finally "The Red Planet", with its breathtaking appearance erases any sense of uncertainty.

Why do we explore #mars so much ? Well, the evidence is clear. Mars was very #earth like in its early years. It’s been confirmed for a long time now that Mars had #water and an #atmosphere two #ingredients that we know are needed to create life. There is certainly frozen water on the small #planet with its two #moons or #satellites life, if discovered will probably be #microbes or microbiology BUT it will be the first discovery of life out side of #earth not just in #Human #history but forever…and we haven’t even launched #jameswebbspacetelescope yet. This is a big deal #nasa @nasa #vallesmarineris #mars #water #theredplanet The second reason we explore Mara so much? Future #human #colonies I think that it’s likely we will have #astronauts on Mars by the 2030’s and soon after, the beginning of a #space faring #civilization A bit closer to “1” on the #kardashev #scale #science #futurist #humanity #physics Why not fix earth instead of colonizing and eventually destroying Mars as well? Honestly, my intuition combined with my knowledge of #weather and #climate tells me that it’s far too late to save this planet. Too many people. Too much greed. Too many assholes and an embarrassing science literacy level with the people who make and enforce #laws the #government is worse. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Mars! 🔴 Tonight, October 6, start looking East at 9:00 PM; or as early as 7:30 PM as Mars clears the horizon. Mars will officially be in perigee - the closest approach to Earth per Mars’ orbital cycle. While perigee happens every 26 months or so, Mars will be extra close this time around at 38.6 million miles away, with the approach making it crazy-bright in the night sky. NOTE: we won’t get this close again until 2035! Additionally, Mars will be at opposition on October 13, making these next few days the best time to see the red planet in all its ruddy splendor.
