Okay, everybody say a prayer that my theory about the dry air situation in my room is correct and that the terrible DIY job I just did using tape to seal off the air leaks in the adjoining room that’s connected to my room by a vent does the trick, because I am sick of the daily winter choice between “refill a giant humidifier that warps the wood of your furniture and could potentially cause you to breathe in carcinogens” and “feel like you came down with the flu during allergy season within literally 15 minutes of just sitting in bed unhumidified.”

Dangers Waiting for Your Baby!
Tumblr media
We always want the best for our babies, but sometimes we may overlook some potential hazards in our homes. In this article, we address some possible dangers that your baby may face. We will discuss topics such as electrical appliances, furniture that poses a risk of falling, cleaning supplies, the danger of falling from heights, and more. With this information, you can ensure that your baby is safer at home.
How to Ensure Baby Safety at Home?
Our home is the place where we feel the safest and most peaceful. We spend most of our time in our homes, especially during cold weather when we cannot spend much time outside. Naturally, our babies also spend most of their time at home.As babies learn to crawl, walk, and explore objects around them, they will fall and get back up, but as you know, babies are curious and can be unpredictable. In this case, you will need to make some adjustments to make your home safe for your baby. You may have thought there was no danger in your home before your baby was born, but once they start crawling, you will realize the seriousness of the situation. Now you will need to consider and review many things that you may not have thought of before. So, what do you need to do to ensure baby safety at home?
Don't Take Your Eyes Off Your Baby!
To be honest, the most important element in ensuring baby safety at home is never taking your eyes off your baby. Never underestimate your baby. Don't fall into the trap of thinking, "He's just started crawling, what could he possibly do?" or "Let me hang the laundry for two minutes." They grow so fast without you even noticing! You'll be surprised at how much your baby can do in seconds rather than two minutes. So you need to think like your baby first. As a parent, it is your duty to anticipate what your baby is capable of doing. Put yourself in their shoes and look around. Take note of things that you think may harm them, remove anything that needs to be removed, and take immediate action to prevent any potential hazards.
Do not leave small, fragmented toys and items that can cause harm lying around!
Babies have a tendency to put everything in their mouth as they try to explore their surroundings. In this case, you should not leave anything that could potentially get stuck in your baby's throat lying around. For example;- Coins, batteries, and buttons are things that your baby can put in their mouth and may lead to choking, so you should not leave them around. - Balloons should not be left around because they can cause choking when they burst into small pieces. - Small parts of baby toys such as tiny eyes of toy dolls can be dangerous for swallowing, so they should not be left around. You should buy toys that are suitable and safe for your child's development. - Even a hair clip that you take out of your hair and put aside can be dangerous for your child. You should be careful about this. - You may think that you usually put items like cutlery in the top drawers where your baby can't reach them, but your baby grows so quickly that they can eventually reach them. Therefore, you can store these types of items on higher shelves and in closed cabinets. - You may be used to having your cleaning products within reach at all times, but you should put these products on higher shelves that your baby cannot reach. Another solution is to use cabinet and drawer locks to prevent your baby from opening cabinets containing dangerous items. - When cooking, turn the handles of your pots inward and use the back burner. This way, you can prevent accidentally knocking the handle and spilling hot food. If you want to be even more secure, stove guards can help. - Even if your baby hasn't started walking yet, they can hold onto things and stand up, which means they can open your oven or stove knobs. To prevent this danger, you can buy a PVC-covered stove lock, which allows only you to use the gas knob on the stove. - Do not leave detergent in your dishwasher. Put it in when you are about to run the cycle. - If your baby is capable of opening the refrigerator, do not keep food or items that can be broken or swallowed on the lower shelves. - The kitchen is a hazardous place for children in every way. Your baby can sneak into the kitchen without you noticing, even when you are not in the kitchen. In such situations, the best way to protect your baby from all the hazards in the kitchen is to use a baby safety gate. - A baby safety gate will prevent your baby from entering the kitchen when you are not there and keep them safe. Additionally, if you have stairs in your home, you can also position the gate at the top or bottom of the stairs. - Your TV should be wall-mounted instead of sitting on a unit. This way, it will be difficult for your little one to reach and there will be no risk of it falling over. - Make sure the battery covers of your TV remote are securely attached. - Photo frames on top of your unit or table can be dangerous for baby safety, even if the edges are plastic, the photo part is covered with glass. Therefore, you can try hanging them on the wall. - You should also place any other decorative objects that could break in places your baby cannot reach. - If you use a fireplace in your living room, you should install a heat-resistant cover. You should also keep the cover closed when not in use. You can attach soft corner protectors to the sharp edges of the fireplace. - Remove items such as candles and matches. A burning candle can be very dangerous for a baby. Even if it does not burn, your baby may put it in their mouth and choke by chewing on the wax. If you like candlelight, you can use battery-powered lights that mimic the effect of candles. - If you have stairs in your home, you should use a safety gate and make sure it is closed when not in use. - Another tip for child safety at home is to make sure you secure heavy furniture, such as bookshelves, to the floor or wall. Even if you put an obstacle in front of it, your child can still reach it quickly and have a serious accident. - If your outlets are low to the ground, you should install outlet covers designed for baby safety. - In some homes, outlets may be at a height that babies cannot reach, but we often use extension cords. Babies can insert a metal object into these cords, so we should not leave extension cords on the ground. - Usually, there is a tangled pile of cords next to televisions. You can gather them together and put them in a closed container, then mount it in an unseen area behind the unit. You can even make this yourself with a paper towel roll. - To ensure baby safety in the bedroom, you should not place the baby's bed next to the window. - You should install window locks on all windows in the house, especially in the baby's room, to prevent the baby from climbing out and accessing dangerous areas when you think they are asleep. - To avoid leaving your baby unattended when they are asleep, you can use a digital baby monitor. - Make sure the bars of the crib are small enough so that the baby cannot pass through them. - As the baby grows and begins to sit up, you will need to lower the crib to prevent them from falling out. - If you are concerned about your baby falling while they are asleep, you can use a bed rail. - Avoid using blinds in the baby's room and other rooms where the baby can climb and reach, as the cords of this type of blind are very dangerous for babies. - If your baby sleeps in your bed, you can place pillows in the gaps between the bed and the wall. - Avoid using decorative items in the baby's room that the baby can pick up and put in their mouth. - The most important thing to watch out for in the bathroom is the slippery floor. Therefore, you should not leave your bathroom wet. - You can use a non-slip mat under the rugs you use in the bathroom to prevent them from slipping. - Do not leave the plug of the hair dryer you use in the bathroom connected. - If you have medicine in your bathroom, store them in a closed box on the top shelf. - Like in the kitchen, put cleaning materials in a place where your baby cannot reach or use cabinet locks. - You should adjust the temperature well when giving your baby a bath. You can use a thermometer for this. - Do not leave things in the bathroom that can cause drowning, such as a bucket filled with water. - You should keep the toilet seat closed all the time. Also, since your toilet and its surroundings can easily become a source of germs, you should always keep your bathroom clean. You can also use toilet seat locks to prevent your baby from opening them.If baby safety is ensured at home, many home accidents can be prevented, but there is another issue that needs to be addressed here. That is not to turn the issue of safety into paranoia. Of course, your child will fall, and sometimes they will hurt themselves. It's part of growing up. Your task is to provide them with the necessary safety and never take your eyes off them. The issue of safety is not a reason to restrict your baby. Read the full article

Currently kicking myself because the fancy stove that I really wanted went from $650 to $750 when the new sale started today. Less fancy stove is still $650 but the other one was originally $1000, so obvs disappointed we waited because it was such a good deal. — Coley 💗💜💙 Bisexual people exist (she/her) (@raspberrychucks) Jan 5, 2023 January 05, 2023 at 02:20PM via Twitter https://twitter.com/raspberrychucks
