Mannn. Honestly all of owen's new life videos have been pretty good. I do however dislike the direction that Sparrow's character went in as i do not think that Sparrow was originally meant to be a tragic character? Sparrow was all about discovery and invention and that felt very lost towards the end of the series.

I wanted sparrow to learn how he was 'wrong about his perceptions of hybrids (although not even im fully sure what exactly that means) and his worries didnt feel conclusive (being afraid of not being "hybrid" enough? He had never mentioned that worry before) and although he does loose touch on himself i feel that him sealing himself away in his tomb wasn't really what i was expecting? Like i thought overall the tone would be a little bit happier and more about discovery and uniqueness like at the start of the series but that just completely dropped off.

Honestly i think instead of the ending being "sparrow murders his friends and rebents by locking himself in a place where he is not happy, is at risk and is not his true self even though its for a noble cause" i think it would have been really cool to see Sparrow choose to be human again as a nice way to tie it all back to the start of the series and feel satisfying.

Honestly i would have liked him use the machine MORE and to still choose to be himself rather than the skulk spreading storyline but idk. Id also would have liked there to be more connection to the theme of friends

Because ALL throughout new life Sparrow focuses on making friends. Heck even in the ending animatic it shows his friends so that link is definetly still there, but it feels odd that it ends in Sparrow murdering two of his friends (sausage, who he got closer to although maybe not friends as such and Scott, who was his best friend).

Also wait how come he wrote in a book at the end instead of recording it with the camera? Wouldnt it have made more sense to record it into the thing that has been showing the whole adventure rather than a book that has no relation to the story ? Lol. The animatic was awesome however

OC SMASH OR PASS: Velan ket'Oserisades

This is Velan! She is very busy on account of she's currently running several, concurrent, tax fraud schemes, is busy leading a group of people as their borderline-autocrat, doing mediator shit, and keeping track of the logistics for all of that. And making sure everyone gets fed. She is forty or fifty years old and does not need all this (well, technically, eighty-eight, but dragons age slower than humans). She also turns into a forty-foot-or-so dragon and can teleport to anywhere there's a shadow. She doesn't use the latter very often since she's not an assassin any more, but she used to. Most of the time, she's doing paperwork.

PROS:

extremely on top of everything. you'll never run out of condoms, lube, toys, or anything else you need if Velan is there alongside you. So long as you ask.

Been around the block a few times. Knows what she likes. Will tell you, not shy about it. Takes out a lot of the guesswork

Never involved in drama because she's way too mature for that

Probably one of the most pragmatic people you've ever met - she has her priorities all figured out. When she explains things it seems crystal-clear and obvious.

CONS:

Wayyyyy too busy to plan for you. You have to get everything together and get her to put the work down.

will not put up with boring sex or unpleasant relationships if she doesn't have to, which she doesn't, so you better get creative

10. what is the longest amount of time you’ve let a draft rest before you finished it?

this one has a weirdly complicated answer, in that this fic had two long periods where it was untouched before posting, and technically it was never finished. But: from right here the view goes on forever was mostly written in the spring and summer of 2019, got sidelined by first falling in love and then the creativity crash of the pandemic, had one tiny bit added to it in I think July 2020, and I started posted it in October 2021.

This is one of the last pieces of the series that Ryn and I wrote together, what we informally called "the beach epilogue", that rounds out the longest piece of that series. It is the origin of my first tattoo, even though we never got to write the part of the fic wherein the tattoo itself appears, and when I posted it after Ryn died, I included one of our engagement photos where you can see it on both of us.

13. a fandom you’re thinking about writing for

I still kinda want the extremely fucked up Star Trek fic that lives in my head about Marla McGivers, aka Khan's wife who dies sometime between the original Space Seed episode in TOS and Wrath of Khan. I'm 50/50 on whether it ends up being canon-divergent, because it's from her POV, and that makes it a Bad Ending fic, which is not usually my jam.

I watched the episode and the movie in the spring of 2021 for the first time after getting divorce and BOY HOWDY do I have thoughts about how they wrote Khan and emotional manipulation. It was going to be an exploration of some trauma stuff that ironically got pushed aside by actual new trauma.

2017! This month is seven years since I started writing and posting fic!

26. are you able to write with other people around?

Usually; prepandemic, and when I was commuting to an office, I was a coffeeshop writing girlie, but now it's not so much part of my routine. A few times I've written while hanging out with friends, and that's nice if potentially distracting.

Fun fact: Mia usually doesn't wear the gloves that the uniform has but she still keeps them on her person. She'll put them on if someone pisses her off enough to deck them, so if you see her talking and putting them on, you might want to step in. Or wait and see what happens. 😂

perhaps i'd be more articulate the next time i'll write this down, but just know this - my portrayal of neville will always love hermione quite whole-heartedly. i wish i have the brain capacity to describe just how much hermione means to neville, but let's just say it encapsulates beyond even a romantic notion; it's everything. loving, respecting, being around hermione simply to enjoy her company is purely a selfless act that brings immense satisfaction and enjoyment for him. again, his actions [for any hermione portrayals] may came out incredibly romantic, although please be forewarned that this is in no way of me pushing for a ship — for i, too, much rather build a dynamic than forcing one — but simply the way i've interpreted his mannerisms when it came to the witch. i hope this may clear some things up!
