“idiot.” a harsh slap on the back of his head made yuuji yelp out in surprise and slight pain, clutching the back of his head. “if you keep staring like that she’s gonna notice, y’know.” he pouted a bit as nobara sat herself next to him, sipping a smoothie as the two of them watched you train with maki.
“whatever…” he mumbled, setting his head on his hand. nobara watched him for a moment, the kicked puppy look on his face making her let out a breath, sighing.
“i can’t enjoy your struggle with love if you look like that.” yuuji didn’t respond to her comment, making her roll her eyes. “hey, stop ignoring me and listen. you have the love expert sitting right next to you and you’re not even gonna ask me anything?”
“you’ve never even had a boyfriend.”
“hey!! i’m not gonna help you if you start being a little shit!” she yelled, huffing as she took another sip of her smoothie.
as nobara looked at yuuji, she had to admit that it was strange to see him like this. it was odd to see yuuji so down in the dumps and not talking excitedly about something stupid, (not that she really cared. it was just an observation).
“...you gonna confess to her?”
“confess to who?!”
“aah!” nobara screamed as she jumped, her cup almost slipping from her grasp. gojo peeked his head out between yuuji and nobara, his face twisting in feigned pain.
“woah! don’t go screaming so loud, nobara! you’re gonna burst my eardrums!” the man whined, dramatically clutching his ears.
“well maybe don’t go sneaking up on people like that!! i could’ve dropped my smoothie!!” she complained, clutching her smoothie much closer. despite the sudden appearance and scare from gojo, yuuji hadn’t even moved a muscle, his cheek still squished up against his hand as he watched you, your training partner now being panda.
“sorry! but what’s got our vessel so down in the dumps? he get rejected?”
“he’s gotten himself rejected in his mind before even confessing.”
“ahhh, young love. so tragic!” gojo exclaimed dramatically. “so, who is it? hmmm…” gojo’s head turned to yuuji, matching his gaze until he saw you. “woah, (y/n)! what’re you gonna do?”
“dunno…panda said she’s totally into some guy from kyoto…” nobara raised a brow at his words, scrunching her brows as she thought for a moment.
“panda is a big fat liar. (y/n)-chan does have a crush on someone, but-”
“you know who she has a crush on?!” yuuji suddenly asked, his voice raising two octaves and his jaw almost dropping. “who is it?!”
“i’m not gonna break girl code for you, stupid! all i’ll say is that panda is completely wrong and that you have absolutely nothing to worry about.” she stated, making an ‘x’ symbol with her fingers. “you’ll be fine, so just confess already.”
“i don’t even know how to do that! it looks so easy in those romance movies…” yuuji said, completely unaware of what she had just implied.
“you watch romance movies? actually, why does that make complete sense- nevermind! stop being a coward! girls don’t like men who are cowards!” nobara confidently stated. “you’ve gotta be confident and tell your feelings unashamedly! be bold! be fearless!”
the little pep talk had no effect on yuuji, the boy just sighing and standing up when he noticed that you were finished with training. before he could get up and walk away, gojo suddenly grabbed him from under his armpits, easily lifting him up and walking away with him, (yuuji’s flapping and flailing had absolutely no effect).
nobara had stayed seated, staring at the scene for a couple moments and wondering if she should get herself involved, (teenage boys are so much trouble, after all). despite the fact that she could do much better things with her time, she ultimately decides to get up and follow them. see, she’s thinking for her future self! the future her wouldn’t be able to enjoy the small moments of peace and quiet if yuuji was constantly moping and feeling sorry for himself, so she has to intervene now for her own self preservation!
“hey, let go of me!”
“we have to fix this, stat! i wouldn’t be a good teacher if i didn’t help you out!”
“i’m not asking for your stupid help! have you even had a girlfriend before, sensei?!” gojo gasped at yuuji’s words, shaking him a bit as he continued to carry him to wherever he was taking him, (nobara isn’t sure why she decided to help, actually. this was ruining her peace and quiet).
“ouch! you don’t think your own mentor is hot with the ladies?!” gojo suddenly stopped walking when he noticed a familiar black-haired first year who stopped in the doorway to the school, staring at the scene in front of him.
for a few seconds, megumi stared at gojo, hoping that silence would hopefully be enough to exclude him from whatever was going on right now.
“megumiii~! come help us with yuuji~!”
“no thanks.”
“me~gu~mi~!”
“i’m busy.”
--
you’re not sure what’s going on right now.
you had been walking with maki and panda back from training, the three of you talking about getting a bite to eat somewhere good after taking showers and freshening up, (you felt pretty cool that you were able to hang out with the second-years, so you were pretty excited about it).
when the three of you had heard a giant racket from behind you, none of you had expected to turn around and find gojo and the other first years restraining yuuji as they were sprinting your way at quite the alarming speed, (gojo was holding yuuji like a cat, his hands under his armpits while megumi and nobara were half-heartedly crouch-running while holding his legs).
“aahhh!! let me go!! let go!!” yuuji was yelling, trying his best to wrangle himself out of gojo’s grip.
“what in the world…” you said in shock, preparing to get out of the way since they didn’t seem to be slowing down, (would they willingly crash into all you? nah…right?).
they all suddenly stopped right in front of you, unceremoniously dropping yuuji. he didn’t lose his balance though, standing up straight away and throwing his hands up in anger.
“hey!! what’s the big idea here?!” he was yelling, his face twisted in confusion and frustration. “you can’t just pick me up and take me wherever you want!!”
“actually, i can! maki, panda!! let’s scram!!” gojo said, a big smile on his face as he started shooing them off.
“hah? why should we-?”
“c’mon c’monnnn! listen to your teacher for once!” gojo interrupted, taking hold of both of their shoulders and pulling them along with him. “ oh, and (y/n)! yuuji has something to say to you!” megumi and nobara followed behind him as they shook their heads, leaving you and yuuji staring at them in shock as they all walked away.
“what the hell just happened…?” you asked, your question hanging in the air as you watched them all promptly exit the scene, (you could still hear maki arguing with gojo in the distance which you thought was a bit funny).
yuuji didn’t answer your question, his jaw hanging wide open as he watched everyone walk away and leave him there.
“uh, yuuji…? you alright? gojo-sensei said you have something to say?” you asked, a bit concerned. yuuji was finally looking at you, his mouth opening and closing as he tried to say something, (were his cheeks pink? are you imagining things?). it was odd to see him acting so timid, especially when he was usually so excited and friendly. maybe he was finally making a move?
no, you shouldn’t get your hopes up.
“i…uhh…” he managed to let out, his hands moving to his head to mess with his hair. you nodded patiently, waiting for him to say something.
“yes?”
“i…you…uhhhh…” he shook his head, his hands suddenly slapping his cheeks. “i like you!!” he exclaimed, his eyes screwed shut. “i really like you and panda said that you liked a guy from kyoto so i wasn’t going to say anything but nobara said i should go for it and i wasn’t going to but then gojo-sensei dragged me all the way here so i kinda feel like i have to say it now! i’m sorry!!!” you stared as he talked, not even taking a breath between his sentences as words poured out of his mouth. at the end of it he bowed deeply to you, his arms stiff at his sides.
all you could do was stare at him for a few moments, his talking being too fast for your brain to process all at once. the silence was thick over the two of you as he anxiously waited for an answer from you, whose eyes were blown wide as you realized what was happening right now.
the first thing you did was gently grab his shoulders, pulling him up from his bow and smiling at him, your hands moving to hold his, (you found it cute that his palms were sweating a bit).
the second thing you did was giggle a bit at his flushed and embarrassed expression; you didn’t think you’d ever see him like this, but you were glad that you were.
“yuuji! i thought you would never say anything! i like you too~!” now he was the one staring at you with wide eyes, his gaze flicking down to look at your joined hands, then back up to your smiling face.
“me? you like me?!” he asked in shock.
“of course, silly!” you answered, squeezing his hands a bit. “i’ve liked you since the first day i met you. i was waiting for you to realize!” yuuji continued gaping at you, his shock extremely evident on his face. “was it really not that obvious?”
“i’m kinda stupid, so i didn’t know…” he mumbled, his eyes staring deeply into your own, almost as if he was searching for your feelings in them. a smile suddenly bloomed on his face, his shock melting away as he gave you the most genuine and happy grin you’ve ever seen in your life, (you’re being blinded!!).
“will you let me be your boyfriend?” he asked, lacing your fingers together. “i can’t say that i’m the smartest and i can’t say that i’m the strongest, but i will do my best to make you happy!”
there was a particular shine of complete and utter love in his brown eyes that beamed a light straight into your heart; a complete k.o!
“guh, yuuji…” you said, your head dropping down. “my heart…”
“what?! are you okay, (y/n)??”
“ahhh, you’re so cute…!” you exclaimed, popping your head back up to beam at him. “let’s go do something!! right now!”
“r-right now!? where-?!” you cut his words off by starting to drag him with you, beginning to jog a bit. he confusedly jogged behind you, but despite his confusion his hand held yours in a firm grip, blindly following your lead as you led the both of you down the halls.
“somewhere! wherever we find something cool!” you giggled, going outside the school and leading him in the direction of the city. “let’s get some good food! oh, and maybe we can watch a movie or something! didn’t you want to watch that worm movie?”
“human earthworm 4? seriously?! you’ll see it with me??” yuuji asked, his expression dumbfounded and elated at the same time.
“of course! i would do anything if it was with you!”
“h-huh?! anything?!”
“yep! anything!” you smiled, looking back at him. his cheeks were completely flushed by this point, the pink shade being darker than his hair color. even more obvious than his flustered state though was how happy he was; his face was contorted in the most beautiful grin you think you’ve ever seen and you almost trip over your own feet because you’re so happy too.
“...i-i would do anything too! if it was with you!” he exclaimed, unconsciously helping you jump over a big root in the pathway. “i think anything would be good if it had you!”
“do you mean it?”
“of course i do!! i feel like you always have this sort of aura that’s just like whoosh! and then i just feel better, even if my lunch got stolen out of the fridge!”
“haha, i have an aura? don’t worry though, i’ll protect your lunches from now on!! you won’t need my aura because-!”
“no, i do need your aura! always!”
“hmm, well i guess we could arrange that, right?” you mused, giggling. yuuji’s eyes drifted to his view of your smile, your joyful expression making his heart go ten times faster than it already was.
hey! not that he’s complaining…it’s really nice, so….his heart rate be damned!!
yuuji doesn’t know if there’s a god out there or a higher power, but he hopes that he can be able to relive this moment with you forever, (would it be too much for him to ask to be with you forever? it would be, right?).

The Platform Part 3 (Tommy Shelby x Reader)
Thank you guys again for all your responses!! Here's Part 3 so I hope you enjoy! This one's a bit shorter so sorry about that! But short and sweet...hopefully!
Warnings: Little bit of Fluff
Tumblr media
Part 3
It was Friday and after Friday came the blessing of the weekend. That meant plans were being made for tonight. In a place like Small Heath there was only really one place for said plans to happen, The Garrison. (y/n) rarely went out. By the end of the work day, she was always so dead tired. In addition, her colleagues were never encouraging her to join them. However, this Friday Evelyn had done a complete 180. She had been pestering her to go out all day.
“(y/n), come on! It’ll be fun! It’s the Garrison on a Friday night, it’ll be amazing!”
If there was one word to describe the pub (y/n) wouldn’t use the word amazing. From what she could remember it was a dirty, gloomy place. Always full of men that couldn’t control their hands.
“(y/n), please. I need your help. I need you to re-introduce me to Thomas. I’m begging you. Begging.”
And there it was, the real reason. (y/n) didn’t have the heart to tell her that Thomas didn’t seem interested but then again (y/n) wasn’t sure if that was true. She had heard the rumors about his wild ways, the one-night stands, the exotic clubs in London. Thomas didn’t seem scared of stringing along a woman just to dip his fingers in the honey occasionally.
In the end it was Mr. Beavers who pushed her over the edge, “Yes, I fully support this. (y/n) you’ve been working far too hard these past few weeks. I want you to go out, have a drink, have fun, and let your hair down. It’s an order.”
With that, (y/n) dropped her head in defeat.
“Meet you there at seven.” Came Evelyn’s gloating voice.
To say it was crowded would be an understatement. It was packed. The two women pushed open the thick doors and was greeted with a wave of heavy, hot air.
“Come on, let’s get some drinks first. The rest of the group will be near the back.” Evelyn had to raise her voice to be heard over the rowdy pub.
They pushed their way forwards and came upon the bartender.
“Two old fashions please.” Evelyn ordered for the both of them but (y/n) didn’t mind. She was busy surveying the crowd. It contained both the old and the young but the one thing they shared was their level of intoxication. She kept on scanning until her heart jumped straight from her chest into her throat.
It was those eyes. Ice. Ocean. River. And Sky. At the very back of the pub he was sitting at a table with a few other men. He was staring straight at her. Unmoving except to raise a glass to his lips. (y/n) felt like prey. One of those poor antelopes she read about in the library. Weak creatures who grazed quietly on the plains until they heard a noise, a twig snapping, and then they were running and running. And if they glanced behind, they would see the paralyzing image of a lion, crazed eyes, wide open jaw, the teeth glistening.
(y/n) went against her instincts and turned her back. She picked up her drink and took gulp. She was never going to make it out of this alive. Evelyn guided her through the masses until they reached the corner where (y/n) recognized a group of colleagues. Evelyn made sure to sit right next to her, “As soon as I spot him, I’ll nudge you and we’re going to re-do the introductions, understand?”
(y/n) only nodded. She didn’t really care. She could already feel a headache brewing but she made conversation with Mark from the business section all the same. After an hour (y/n) couldn’t take the humid air anymore she detached herself from Evelyn who was already tipsy and didn’t seem to notice before carefully weaving through the crowd and out the door. She walked up the street a bit and leaned against the opening of the back alley of The Garrison.
She wrapped her arms around herself in an effort to keep warm against the evening’s brisk air. Winter was around the corner, and she could tell it was going to be a brutal one. Suddenly there was a noise, a metal clang in the depths of the alley. Her head spun around to look into the darkness. (y/n) wasn’t stupid she knew what kind of people hung about at this time of night, but she also wasn’t very keen on going back into the sweat box of the pub. She pushed off the wall to get a better look down the alley; she was hoping to catch sight of a rat or racoon. As she squinted her eyes, she just began to make out the looming figure of a man. Her heart started to thrum in her ears and before she could get another clear look, she quickly took a step back only to collide with something.
(y/n) gasped and twirled around putting her hands up to push away whatever it was. But it was Thomas and before she could hit him, he clasped both of her arms and dragged her towards him, out of the darkness and into the soft lights of the Garrison’s windows. She watched him stare over her head into the open mouth of the alley, daring something or someone to show its face but when she glanced around there was nothing.
“Not smart for a woman to be out ‘ere alone.”
“I needed some air.”
Thomas stared down at her. She didn’t even realize he was moving before a hand came up off her arm to carefully brush asway some loose hair from her forehead. He hummed quietly in acknowledgment. The way his eyes raked over her face should have been illegal. They scoured the entire plain of her face before briefly fixating on her lips.
“Just like at the platform, eh?” He squeezed her arms as emphasis.
“That was a long time ago, Mr. Shelby.” (y/n) whispered.
“Only a few years.” Accompanied by a small step forward so their chests were almost brushing.
(y/n) swallowed at the proximity. She could count his freckles. She could see the pale skin and dark, long, beautiful eyelashes. The softness he held in his eyes. It all felt so terribly familiar.
Too close. She frantically whispered to herself. Too close.
“Call me Tommy.” He caressed her arms, up and down, “Just once.”
She looked up at him, “Mr. Shelby…”
He shut his eyes and shook his head. His dark hair falling over his forehead, “Please.”
The Garrison doors burst open with a bang and the two of them jumped apart. A gaggle of very drunk looking young men stumbled out onto the street. (y/n) watched them trip over themselves as the clumsily passed them by. They called out and hooted all the way down the dark road.
Whatever moment the two of them had was gone, broken, “I should be getting back, Mr. Shelby.” She couldn’t bring herself to actually look at him. She was ashamed to say she would rather take the sweaty, roaring interior of The Garrison over being alone with Thomas.
And when next week’s Thursday came around it was all forgotten. Thomas acted no different and (y/n) moved on.
But in the night, when she was weak and tired, she would replay the moment over and over. The sight of those lips, full and soft. The delusional feeling of them brushing her own. Feather light but carrying with them the heat of desire. Then down her neck, they would turn hotter, hungrier. They would open and suck and bite and mark and…Stupid girl. She’d say. Stupid girl.

Keep Me Ablaze
Jake Sully x Neytiri x Fem!Reader
—-
a/n: i hope you all enjoy!!
warnings: swearing, animal death, injury, mentions of blood, fire, tell me if i missed anything!!
Chapter Five- Moment
—-
Palulukan, is what Neytiri called it. Grace called it a thanator. But it your mind, it was only the king of the forest. The one on top of the food chain. Who killed your father and emotionally scarred your mother for the rest of her life.
Yet, it’s you who has to carry the marks.
As the ground feels the scars of their graves, you feel their loss, the space they leave.
Each day, you wake up without parents, only an aunt to fill a hole that she can never patch. You love Aunt Grace, of course, she’s the only thing that’s ever come close to a parent for you. She tells you you’re a wildfire and calls you her perfect girl- but it should be your parents saying that, shouldn’t it?
You watch the movies, hear the stories, the longing and the climactic reunion. And you’ll never have it.
“Don’t be scared,” Neytiri says, leading you deeper into the thick woods.
“I’m not,” you huff, feeling stupid and foolish. You’re still close to the village- no hostile animals come close this way.
“You wanted to see the flowers,” she starts, “so I’ll take you there.” She gestures to the bow on her shoulder. Young as she is, everyone always says she’s a prodigy. “And I’ll protect you.”
“Thank you,” you smile, even though your stomach turns. “And I’m fine, I promise.”
“My hand is going numb from how hard you’re squeezing it, my human.” You groan, and she laughs. “We’ll turn back if you want to-”
“No, no, it’s stupid,” you say, shaking your head.
“Tell me anyways,” she shrugs.
“You know… how my father died?”
“Yes…” she frowns, staring down at your confused. You hadn’t talked much about your parents, and Neytiri never asked. But she knew a little, she knew enough to know that they’re dead. “Oh. A palulukan-”
“It’s stupid,” you say again.
“It’s not,” she replies, squeezing your hand.
You shake your head, tug her forward. “Let’s just go?”
“You don’t have to be scared,” she whispers from behind you, and maybe you know you don’t but your heart still thrums. “I’ll protect you. I promise.”
—-
“You’re insane,” you say, “you’re insane, Jake Sully, you’re insane.”
“I saved you,” he replies, helping you hold onto the branch in front of you. “A thank you would be nice, you know.” And even after jumping off of a cliff he shoots you a cocky smile.
“Thank you for almost killing me,” you spit.
“Oh, you are so welcome, sweetheart.”
—-
As soon as the two of you drag yourselves out of the water, you’re utterly lost. Moving quick, trying to avoid the thanator, and every other dangerous thing in Pandora. While it’s easy to think Pandora is a paradise- you know better than most that it’s truly not.
He looked around anxiously as she sharpened and long stick, before handing his knife to you and ushering you forward.
The weight of it is odd, foreign. You never had a need to learn how to use a knife beyond the basic notion of pointy-end forward. Whenever you left Hell’s Gate, there were always men with guns around you. Or, when you were younger, Neytiri would protect you.
“I don’t know-”
“Use the pointy end,” he advises, and you roll your eyes.
“I know that,” you hiss.
He moves slowly through the forest, head moving back and forth quick, never staying in one place long. Eventually, fear takes over, the newness and the unknown, and you find yourself doing the same.
Night falls quick, and Jake starts muttering about fire, taking her over shirt and dipping it in something he deems will start a fire. You’re no help. Yes, you know which plants are safe to eat, but what good is that if you get attacked?
You find yourself thinking of Neytiri, of her reassuring hands and her bow, her promises and words.
But you haven’t seen Neytiri in years- she isn’t here to save you. Not now, not ever.
Suddenly, growls fill the woods, and you find yourself losing all sense, shaking Jake’s shoulder as he tries to light the match.
“It’s fine,” he mumbles, falling away from your demanding hands. “I’ve got it. I’ve got it, I’ve- got it!” he shouts, the night springing to life, the light of the fire swallowing the darkness right up.
He whips the fire around, eyes moving left to right, hunched in and ready to attack.
Whatever is circling you is still hidden in the woods, deterred by the fire Jake swings around, until they become bolder, come closer. Until you know there is no one to save you, not anymore.
—-
Neytiri was going to do it. She should have. She should have shot the dreamwalkers quick, more respect than they’ve ever shown her people- leave them for dead in the forest, for some animal.
But then- she saw it, just out of the corner of her eye, just as she had pulled her bow back, a seed of the Spirit Tree. A seed of Eywa.
And no matter what the humans have taken from her, her sister, her best friend, her home, she listens. She lets her arrow stay in place, and the seed lands on the arrowhead. One breath, two-
It floats off, another gust of wind taking it somewhere else.
She lets her bow go slack, places the arrow back in her holder. She doesn’t kill.
—-
The arrow is leaving Neytiri’s bow before she can even think- she is acting on blindness, on her heart, not her head. But something about- she has to save them, something tells her, she has to, so she does.
She cringes when she hears the arrow sink in, then continues her path, drawing another arrow, cutting through the air, ignoring everything and everyone else.
She doesn’t focus on them. She focuses on the feeling of action and reaction, the feeling of knowing she holds the power- and no one can take that away from her. Not right now. Not ever again.
She hits them with her bow, sick of killing, before the sounds of their whining start to die, and she hisses- one final warning, one final taunt. The forest is silent, save the sound of the animals retreating.
Now, she breathes in, let’s her heart feel and beat. She cringed at the fire, at the brightness of it- these humans are like babies, she thinks to herself, before muttering a curse and throwing the torch into a nearby pond.
“Hey, wait, don’t!” the man calls, but it is too late.
The forest shrinks back to its regularity, the darkness that comforts her, that she knows.
He scoffs, and her eyes flick to the woman, waiting for danger- she stops. The woman is familiar, in a way.
In a way that makes her heart leap like she has found the greatest treasure, done the greatest thing.
She looks so much like her it hurts.
But it’s not her. It can’t be. It can’t be, because Neytiri has long since given up childish things like that.
She was foolish, when she was young, bringing Y/N gifts and treats and trying to impress her, show her that she was good. That Neytiri would provide for her, take care of her. No one in the clan would bat an eye if two women mated- but with a human?
Besides, her path is marked, carved into her like a scar. She will be mated to Tsu’tey.
She’s reminding of the task by hand by the sound of the poor creature she shot whimpering, and her heart sinks, feet silent on the forest floor as she follows the sound. She finds it, shrouded in darkness and moss, whimpering and breathing heavy.
The woman follows her, staying a few feet’s behind, cautiously watching her and in a way that makes the wildfire inside of her flare. She grunts as she places her knee on the things neck, places her knife over the kill spot, mutters the words she knows by heart.
She stands, goes to the other animal she killed, kneels in front of it. She says more in Na’vi, too tired to really feel it, the rush of adrenaline and power fading.
“Look,” the man starts, stepping closer than she would like, but she is sure she could take him. Both of them, if she had too, but it seems the other woman doesn’t want to fight. She keeps her distance. She watches, rapt and eager. A scientist, probably, Neytiri muses to herself. “I know you probably don’t under this, but uh… thank you.”
Silence, and she lets it fall, her actions sinking in and guilt consuming her. She should have. She should have.
“Thank you,” he says again. He squats close to the ground, the sharpened stick he used for the fire in his hands. “That was pretty impressive,” he continues. Neytiri bids him to shut up, in her mind.
She goes through the movements, knife sinking into flesh again. Finally, she looks up at him. Studies him.
“We would have been screwed if you hadn’t come along. It was…” his voice fades as she stands, chuckling to himself, before it stops completely. She wants him to go. She wants both of them to go. They remind her of too much, make her thank dangerously. “Hey, wait a second. Hey, where are you going?”
Finally, the woman speaks. “Jake. You thanked her- let’s just- let’s just go, please,” she begs, but Neytiri watches as he shakes her hands off, pleas hitting a brick wall.
She picks up the pace.
What ever did happen to her human? Do she go back to the human planet, did she die of some illness? Did she die in these very woods, trying to make the trek to Hometree, to get back to Neytiri?
But the man only runs after her, calling out, and it’s a second before she hears a groan and the woman’s footsteps too.
“Look, wait up, I just wanted to say thanks for killing those things.” His hands try and wrap around her arm- and that is what steps her off. She swings on her heel, bow in hand, whacking him across the face.
He yelps, slamming to the forest floor with a whack.
“Jake!” the woman gasps, resting her hands on him with the touch of a lover.
“Damn!” he shouts, touching his now aching face.
“Don’t thank,” she hisses, the end of her bow inches away from him again. “You don’t thank for this. This is sad. Very sad only.”
“Okay. Okay. I’m sorry. Whatever we did, we are sorry,” he says, gesturing between himself and the woman crouches behind him. She stands, takes a few steps back, tries to breathe deep.
“All this is your fault,” she hisses, even though she should just run away and leave them. “They did not need to die.”
“Our fault?” he chuckles, “they attacked us. How are we the bad guys-?”
“You fault!” she shouts, anger boiling over, end of her bow pressing to his chest.
“Hey! Whoa!” he shouts, placing one of his palms out, falling back into the woman who flinches. “Easy, easy,” he coos, like she’s an animal.
“You’re like babies. Making noise, don’t know what to do.”
“Easy. Shh,” he whispers, gently pushing her bow away. He stands, slowly, palms out, and the woman follows. Much slower. Much more cautious. “Fine. Fine. If you love your little forest friends,” he gestures to the carnage behind them, “why not let them just kill our asses? What’s the thinking?”
His accent is different from Y/N’s, his human is harder to understand. Besides, she didn’t need to hear Y/N to know what she was saying. It was different with her. She was different.
“Why save you?” she asks, tilting her head to the side, and he throws his arms out.
“Yeah. Why save us?”
She thinks for a second, lips opening and closing, but she is sure these two will die alone in the forest anyways, so what is this harm?
“You have a strong heart,” she whispers, eyes fixed on the man, Jake, as the other woman called him.
She doesn’t realize how true it is until she speaks it. Not only was her arrow pointed at him when the seed came into her view, but he fought. Loudly, but bravely. If this was years earlier- her clan could try and teach him, perhaps. But this is now.
“And…” her eyes fix on the woman, who stands like a sturmbeest knowing it has been caught, “your fire burns bright.” She chokes on the words.
If this was years ago- she thinks Y/N would have liked this woman. They’re similar. She reminds Neytiri so much of her human, but this is not years ago. This is now, this is the moment.
And the only thing in this moment is the three of them, the forest, and the sound of three identical flames.

Perfect Pair
Kalluto Zoldyck!Brother X Sister!Reader (I don't think there are any pronouns mentioned so could probably be read as a brother as well)
Word Count: 738
Requested: Anon
Request: Hello! I was wondering if you could a write kalluto x big sister reader where the reader is the third oldest sibling of the zoldyck family (older than killua but younger than milluki and illumi)? I hardly see any stories about kalluto getting the family love he deserves
Warning: Guns, Family discord, Illumi hate, Killua hate, hate on the relationship between the two
Tumblr media
You were born a year after Miluki and 7 years before Kalluto and while you were one of the most laid back of the family, you were also considered one of the most dangerous, you never failed a job.
While Illumi and Miluki were busy being mildly unhinged and obsessed with Killua all of the time, you were spending all of your time with Kalluto, when he was young they would often find you sitting with him rested on your chest telling him stories about all of you recent jobs, you’d always be playing with his hair as he fell asleep, you taught him how to do normal things like use a knife and fork or hold a normal conversation.
When Kalluto got old enough to choose who he wanted to be around, he always came looking for you and no matter what you were doing you welcomed him, you were the one the introduced him to the paper art that shaped his nen ability and you took him on his first job.
You were lying on the sofa with your arm over your face and Kalluto burrowed into your side. You literally felt Illumi walk into the room “how can I help you big brother?” You asked. “You were supposed to be watching Killua.” He glared down at you and you picked out to look at him. “And I told you that I was supposed to be looking after Kalluto.” You said as your hand tightened around your little brother, keeping him secured at your side. “Lower the blood lust you’re scaring him.” “I don’t care.” Illumi answered, one of his needles between his fingers, you hand reaching down to grab the gun that you slid under the sofa, both of you drawing your weapons to an attack position, you pointing your gun at Illumi’s head and he his needle up to throw it at the centre of your forehead. “What’s going on here?” Zeno asked as he walked into the room. “I was just asking Illumi to get out because he was scaring Kalluto.” You answered, taking the safety off of the gun. “Enough both of you.” Zeno ordered, both of you dropping your weapons, you sat up carrying your younger brother with you as you stood up, Illumi reached out to grab your arm which you dodged easily. “Don’t touch me.” You glared at him “with all the people watching that kid he doesn’t need me watching him too, Mum hasn’t let him out of her sight anyway.” “I got you in trouble.” Kalluto frowned and you shook your head. “No, it wasn’t you, big brother is just a little annoying.” You answered as you went to find another room for you to help Kalluto with his nen control.
You were all sitting at dinner that evening, Kalluto was sitting next to you, you could feel Illumi glaring from across the table “if you keep looking at me like that I might have to change the oldest member of the family.” You warned him as you piled more food on Kalluto’s plate after he finished his first dish. “There was an incident today.” Your Father said. “You both drew weapons on each other.” “I mean I could have drawn blood.” You shrugged. “This is not a joke.” Your father said. “I’m not joking and he’s honestly pushing his luck.” You muttered as you pointed the knife across the table at Illumi “stop with the threats and oozing blood lust. It's annoying and unsettling for the younger members of the family.” “Why are you acting this way?” Your Father asked. “I’m just protecting my younger brother, while you're all flapping around the prodigal son, I’ll protect the others.” You answered, finishing the food on your plate before standing to leave, Kalluto jumped up from the table grabbing your trouser leg and following after you, you smiled down at him as he wrapped his little hands around yours and you both headed off to find somewhere as far away from your older brother as possible. “They’ll be perfect.” Your mother gushed as the doors closed behind you. “Mmm.” Your Father hummed. “She definitely wants to protect him, he makes her want to fight.” Zeno added. “We’ll see how perfect they are together.” Your father said as he continued eating, Illumi looked at the door you left from and frowned, he hoped that you didn’t ruin Killua too.

flu season
i caught a cold from my brother so i wrote this plus i needed a excuse to write for nico …this is sort of a wip but also not i just don’t know how to end it
nicolas brown x afab reader
poor y/n is sick :( luckily she has nic to take care of her
Tumblr media
☆mentions of sickness and swearing. that’s about it
Tumblr media
“Eugh…I see the bearer of the plague hasn’t left yet” Worrik scoffed , covering his mouth with one hand and backing away from you in a dramatic fashion.
God, he sure was pushing his luck extra hard today.
If you weren’t in such a sickly state you would have jumped off the couch and given him a good & hard punch in the gut.
But alas. You were too weak at the moment to do such a thing. Instead you flipped him off , snuggling deeper into the soft woolen blankets. They smelled just like Nic. A pleasant mix of smoke ,cinnamon and fresh rain.
It was such a familiar, comforting scent you couldn’t help but be a tiny bit obsessed. Almost like home to you.
“Shut the hell up”. You paused to cough a few times. “Nicolas said I’m allowed to stay since he doesn’t want me on my own while I’m like this”.
“Are you serious right now !? You’re just as good at fighting as the two of us”. He protested “You don’t have to be HERE. I know you have other allies around here go to someone else’s place and make them sick instead”. Worrick was visibly starting to get upset as are you.
“What’s the big deal asshole ? I’ve literally been here for like a day”.
“Youre in his T.V. watching spot” Nicolas spoke , entering the room with a cup of steaming tea in one hand and what you could only hope was a cool towel in the other.
“Well why’d the hell you tell me to sleep here then dumb ass ? I know damn well one of ya has a cot in this place I could have slept in one of your rooms”. You quipped, looking up towards him.
Despite your pounding head you sat up and crossed your arms.
[ did not want to make you uncomfortable]
“And I didn’t want to germs to get all over it. I’m the one who does the cleaning around here ya know”. Worrick huffed indignantly.
“Nic just send her home please I WANT TO WATCH MY SHOWS”.
Worrik was acting as childish as ever. Typical.
He could be quite terrifying to those in the outside world but living with him is the real nightmare. Times like this made you glad you didn’t live with him and had your own place.
“Nicolas…I’ve known you both since we were young I really don’t mind sleeping on your floor. Hell I’ll even sleep in bed with one of you I just really need a nap”.
He nodded and shot a dirty look towards his house mate. Nicolas trusted your skills as a fighter and as a former assassin but on days like these he much preferred to have you close so he could keep his eye on you.
Just in case. Normally he wouldn’t give a care in the world but seeing you so weak..it scared him
[She is staying here…I will move her to my room] Nic signed and kneeled down beside you.
Placing the items he was holding on the coffee table behind he allowed all his attention to go to you.
Your eyes met for a brief moment only for you to close them quickly in order to avoid looking like a love struck teenager.
You’re a grown women for gods sake.
Placing the palm of his hand on your forehead he nodded to himself as if he was taking mental notes. Like a doctor of some sorts.
[You are very warm. I will get you medicine and you can lay in my bed]
“Are you sure Nico ? I don’t want to make you sick too”
[I don’t mind. I want you to be okay]
You felt your heart flutter inside your chest as he scooped you up in his strong arms and carried you off to his room.
Too starstruck to say anything you stayed quiet enjoying the closeness between the two of you.

Upgrade To Grandpa
Tumblr media
Summary: Sarah survives that fateful day and so she and Joel are happy in Jackson surrounded by family. She has been feeling off for a little while and so goes to get checked, its there she finds she's pregnant. Aged 22 and having recently lost her boyfriend she needs her family around to support her and they do just that. Content and warnings: Tw-depictions of childbirth, brief mention of sickness. So much fluff, Caring!Joel, Parent!Joel, Joel being the best dad imaginable. Word count: 4.4K Authors note: Okay so I was so excited the entire time I was writing this! Like it honestly makes me happy writing about Grandpa Joel. I really really hope you enjoy this. 🩷
After missing her period for three months in a row, firstly expecting it’s due to stress and then grief, Sarah finds herself at Jackson’s doctor with Maria in tow for support. It’s there she finds out that she’s pregnant, she cries for a long time having just lost her boyfriend; killed in an ambush a few weeks prior. She’s definitely happy about it to an extent, but what sort of life is this child going to have, Jackson’s safe, probably the safest place on earth but anything could happen. That thought is always in the back of her mind, even though she berates herself for ever thinking it. However, having a piece of Sam with her forever in her child is somewhat a blessing. Is 22 too young to have a baby, especially alone? Her dad, did it? Her mind’s constantly jumping with questions, fears, even regrets. How is she going to cope with all this?
After having a long talk with Maria, once she’s calmed down from the initial shock of news, she decides on telling her dad that night. ‘Just bite the bullet and get it over with’ Maria encourages; she knows Sarah doesn’t need the extra stress that keeping a secret like this would entail. And it’s not like anyone was going to be mad she’s an adult, but she’s still scared of disappointing her dad.
“Daddy you’re gonna be so mad at me…” is how the conversation begins. And it ends with ‘Baby I’ll always support you; nothing would ever make me turn my back on you, ever, I love you forever, that will never change, I’m happy s’long as you’re happy.’ And she’s happy, -well since the initial shock of the fact she’s growing another life inside of her blew over that is. He gives her a long hug at the end of their chat.
Her dad, Tommy and Maria have been there for her all the way through her pregnancy. Anyone would think they’re more excited than she is. Tommy and Joel especially dote over her and the bump, and as soon as she started showing she wasn’t ‘allowed’ to do anything. They’re always adamant on her resting, and them doing the jobs she needs to do for her. Does she listen hell no! It’s boring being sat around all day; she may not have been going out on patrols, but there’s enough to do around town to keep her occupied. It’s only when she’s near full term that she agrees to ‘light duties only’ if she refuses rest.
It’s a cool December’s afternoon, she’s at the stables with Tommy helping him to brush the horses. She’s been feeling off since the night before, so Joel demanded ‘no lifting and no excessive exercise’ if she refused to stay home, which she did. She’s feeling a little off, not incapable of any and all activity, and so brushing the horses under the supervision of her Uncle it is. She loves them, and they help her to feel at ease; nobody could be mad at her for that.
They’re down to the last four mares when Sarah feels some pressure below and something of a small gush. Did her water just break? When she feels a second small rush of liquid accompanied by a spasm in her back, she’s sure.
It’s starting.
“Erm Uncle Tommy” Sarah breaks the comfortable silence between them as she puts the brush down on the nearest surface she can find. Holding the underside of her belly with her free hand.
“What is it, Babygirl?” he looks up to her over the horse he’s brushing.
“I think… I’m pretty sure my water just broke”.
“Ha ha good one”
“No Uncle Tommy I’m serious, I definitely felt something, and I know for sure I didn’t pee myself”.
Tommy throws his brush down and races over to her. He automatically goes into panic mode on seeing the wet patch of her trousers. Sarah actually has to calm him down before they can go about doing anything about the current situation.
“Tommy it’s okay it’s just my waters, I’m okay it’s not like the baby is just going fall out we have so much time. First babies take forever we read all about this. Let’s just put these horses away and then we’ll walk back home, okay?”
“Are you sure? Cus we can just go back now. Fuck the horses.”
“Tommy I’m okay, promise”. She laughs.
Once the horses are tied back up- Sarah isn’t allowed to help, she’s told ‘to sit her ass down and look pretty’ whilst her Uncle rushes to finish the current task- they get ready for the walk home.
“Right Babygirl, let’s get you home.” He says walking back over to her. He holds his hands out to her, and she takes them gladly, pulling herself up. Tommy zips her coat all the way up before linking arms with his niece, they then begin the slow walk back to the house. Snow is falling, it’s a pretty sentimental moment.
“How you feeling Sar?” he quizzes softly.
“Uncle Tommy I’m okay”.
“Are you sure?” his words catch in his throat slightly.
“Are you just gonna keep asking me?” she asks with a soft chuckle.
“Heck yeah I am!”
“You’re funny” she pats Tommy’s arm as she laughs.
“Ah, I know” he laughs with her “So, y’think them pains and the way y’been feelin’ was to do with labour then?”
“Early labour probably, I dunno, but I’m glad I stayed active this morning, couldn’t stand the idea of being stuck in bed.”
“Bed is what y’needed girl”.
“God how did I just KNOW that’s what you were gonna say, stop sounding so much like dad you’re supposed to be the cool one”. She pulls a face at him.
“Listen I am the cool one, but you’re in labour I cannot be cool right now, it’s taking everything in me not to run around like a fuckin’ headless chicken to ask anyone and everyone I can see for help.”
“Jeez you drama queen. Never thought a baby would turn you into such a wimp”.
“I ain’t no wimp”
“Mmm you sure about that?”
“Super sure.” But he couldn’t sound less sure if he tried.
They continue on the walk, snow crunching underfoot when a wave of pain overcomes Sarah, she tries to walk through it, but Tommy can feel the tightening of her arm on his and he sees the way her expression begins to change. He makes her stop then and turns to look at her, placing his hands on her shoulders.
“You’re okay Baby just breathe, okay?”
She nods as she exhales looking him in the eye.
“Good then”.
Sarah takes deep breaths in and out. The pain not being too bad to manage yet. But she knows what’s to come and that’s what panics her. She can’t handle this. She’s not ready for this. Her breathing begins to speed up, but not because of the pain.
“Uncle Tommy I can’t do this, I’m not ready, I’m not ready to be a mom. I’m not ready yet.” She looks down in teary eyed shame to her bump as she gasps.
“Babygirl” he grabs her chin softly, raising it so she has to look him in the eye “you’re so ready, so so ready, we’ve been preparing for so long now. And you’re so excited for this so don’t go getting scared now. You’re going to meet your baby! After all of this time waitin’ an plannin’, you’re finally gonna meet them! It’s excitin’!”
Tommy manages to bring a smile to her face, and with the pain completely gone they can continue walking.
They eventually make it to the front door; Tommy knocks rather frantically which of course is gonna scare the shit out of Joel.
“There’s no need to knock like that, he’s gonna think someone’s died.” She scoffs as they turn their heads to look at one another.
“Meh, play with his head a lil, give him some excitement.” He jests cocking his brow at her.
“Listen Dad’s gonna have more than enough excitement, anger and literally any other emotion you can think of thrown at him till this baby is born he don’t need you starting him off.”
“Sorry mommmm” he utters in exaggeration rolling his eyes.
“Shut up” she says hitting his side with a smile.
Joel doesn’t answer, but the lights on inside prove he’s home, meaning he’s probably too busy focusing on his latest woodwork project in the back and can’t hear them or he’s sat on the back porch with his guitar in hand. Something like that, curse his bad ear.
“Let’s see if we can get in round the back gate, your dad’s so deaf I swear”.
“Hey.” She hits him softly. “The man has been shot at and shot more guns than literally anyone else I know at least he has reason.”
“Nah he’s just an old fart.”
“Well, that still makes you the old farts younger brother, the younger fart”.
“Aha you’re sooo funny.” He remarks sarcastically.
“Runs in the genes so thanks I know I am.” She smiles, before shivering slightly. Tommy notices.
“Right, come on sweet girl let’s get you in the warm. S’freezing out here.” Tommy sighs.
He guides her round to the back gate of the house.
“Joel you here?” He shouts, letting go of Sarah to open the gate leading to the back of the house.
Once open they make their way through. Because Joel’s home as to be expected the back door is unlocked. Yet Joel is nowhere to be seen.
“I’m gonna get some water.” Sarah says solemnly, waddling to the sink once inside.
“Sure, I’m gonna go upstairs n’find your dad, he must be there.”
“Okay. Just, don’t panic him please.”
“Promise.” It’s said with sincerity.
Tommy makes his way upstairs and finds Joel exactly where he expects to, whittling away in his woodworking room. Vinyl player playing softly next to him. Completely in his element. Tommy knocks on the open door as he walks into the room.
“Oh, hey Tommy, you guys are back early, everything okay?” he says as he swivels around on his chair.
“You promise me you’ll stay calm?”
“Tommy what is it? Where’s Sarah, she okay?” he puts his latest creation down, before crossing his arms.
“Promise me” he puts his hand up in front of him, and that’s when Joel realises how serious it is.
“Okay fine, I promise”. He sits up straighter.
“Sarah’s water broke, I think she’s real scared, she’s trying to act brave, but she’s scared”.
“Shit Tommy her water, you’re sure?” he jumps out of his chair then.
“She seems pretty certain. It’s time.”
“Shit.” It’s a whisper as he rakes his hands through his hair.
“We’ve gotta stay calm, I can tell how scared she is”.
“You’re askin an awful lot of me there Tommy, she’s my little girl.” He laughs nervously.
“I know, but that’s also gonna go in your favour, you always know how to calm her down, so just be yourself, you can let the panic out when it’s all over”.
“Yeah, you’re right.” He looks behind Tommy to the landing then, knowing his daughter is in labour down those stairs. Panic evident on his face.
“Joel she’s gonna be great. She’s got”- he’s interrupted by a glass breaking.
They’re both quick to run down the stairs then.
“Sarah! You okay?!” Joel shouts as he scrambles his way into the kitchen. Almost tripping over where Sarah has left her shoes, right in the damn middle of the floor like usual, he takes a mental note to tell her off about that later.
They find her gripping onto the worktop hard; Joel runs straight to her rubbing her back.
“You’re okay Babygirl just breathe; you’re doing so good”.
“It hurts Daddy” she cries.
“I know Baby but you’re doing so good. You just remember to breathe through it like we read about, in an out, good, in for four out for six. Calm it right down that’s it.”
Sarah lets out a shuddering breath as the pain begins to deplete. “I am not looking forward to how this is gonna carry on” she says as she stands up straighter.
“Don’t move Baby” Tommy says softly, “you’ll cut yourself on the glass, just stay still and let me clean this up”.
“I’m sorry I broke it”.
“Joel, sort your daughter out, fuckin’ apologisin’ when she’s got nothin’ to apologise for”. He shakes his head scoffing as he bends down dustpan and brush in hand to clean up the glass.
🌷🌷🌷🌷
After about an hour Jacksons midwife Alison makes her way over to their house to check in, it seems the beginnings of labour are really taking their time. It’s like they always say first babies take their sweet time. Sarah’s warned that it’s ‘gonna be a long one’.
The next few hours are spent with them finding any way they can to entertain Sarah. Games of cards, they manage to get an old DVD player working and watch a classic, heck her and Maria even bake some cookies. Well, more they TRY to bake cookies, its Mainly Maria with the slightest input from Sarah when she’s not in agony. Anything to distract her from what’s to come.
The fresh batch of cookies make everyone’s mouths water. And Sarah eats four before any of the rest of them have finished one. Usually they’d tell her it’s too much too fast, that she’ll make herself sick, but anything to keep her strength up. She needs all the energy she can get even if that is helped by a sugar rush induced by freshly baked cookies.
When the pains begin to get worse, but it’s obvious it’s still going to be a long time until baby comes, they use exercise to try to move it along.
Tommy and Maria stay behind to help set the room up ready for when Sarah is ready to give birth, and Joel and Sarah decide on a walk. Joel helps to wrap her up warm, layers and layers so she will be comfortable. They take it slow walking the dark snowy streets of Jackson, lit up by strings of lights, stopping with each pain that hits.
“Oh Babygirl, what are we gonna do with you. Forever scarin’ the shit outa me.” He laughs shaking his head.
“Oh, I apologise that the birth of your grandchild is such an inconvenience.” She laughs back.
“Hey, no you take that back, I’m only jokin’.” He’s serious.
“Jeez dad so am I, God you really are on edge.”
“You bet your fucking ass I am. Takes me right back to the day you were born.”
She sighs solemnly “Was it awful?”
“Mmm, well it was awful watchin’ your mom in pain especially when there wasn’t much that I could do to help. I felt more like a nuisance than anything. But when it was all over, I’d never been so happy.”
“You and me against the world huh Daddy?”
“Babygirl, when I first held you in my arms I couldn’t stop crying, shit I was just a kid myself, I didn’t know what I was doin’, but from that day onwards I vowed to always be the best version of myself for you.”
“You’ve always been so amazing.” She smiles at him cuddling into his arm much harder.
“You had so much hair, God I’ll never forget thinkin’ I’ve never seen a baby with so much hair, and your tiny little hands and feet, you just really were perfection. The definition of perfection was born that day. My beautiful Babygirl. I knew from that day on that everything was going to be okay, I vowed to work so hard to give you the best life I could, and I know we weren’t rich, and obviously your momma decided she couldn’t cope, but I always tried to keep you happy, this end of the world bullshit makes me feel like I failed but-”
“No stop- I was always the happiest child; you don’t have to worry about failin’ me. I’ve always been so happy because of you. Even with the end of the world and everythin’ else we stayed together; we grew together. Honestly dad if I’m half the parent to this one than you’ve been for me, they’ll never want for anything!” she rubs her stomach as she briefly looks down to her bump.
“Oh, Baby you have no idea how happy it makes me feel hearin’ that.” He says his voice breaking as he evidently tries to hold back tears.
“Dad don’t cry cus you’ll make me cry.” They look to each other briefly and Sarah being so up and down hormonally, breaks at the sight of her teary-eyed father, which then sets him off too. They stop in the middle of the street to embrace. Before they both burst out laughing tears still streaming.
“Whew, emotions really are high tonight.” Joel laughs.
Sarah goes to reply but is sidetracked by a really bad pain. Instead, she leans into her dads shoulder as she groans through it. She’s grown to be very vocal as times dragged on, which Joel knows means she’s progressing as she should, but he hates everything about having to watch her go through it. He reaches to try to push on the bottom of her back, whispering to her to keep breathing and reminding her of how good she’s doing.
She eventually lets out a long breath standing straight. “I just want them to come out now. I can’t take much more of this” She groans sadly.
“I know Babygirl I know; they’re coming I promise. First babies always take their time, but it’s almost over. N’hey listen Sam would be so proud of you, you know that? He was a good kid. Y’know I never liked him at first, but he really grew on me, he was a good man to you, and I respect him so much for that. He’s gonna be lookin’ down on you so so proud” he whispers.
“I miss him, I wish he was here to help me.” She begins softly crying again.
“Shhh, I know you’re scared; I know you feel unprepared trust me I felt the same, and in a way you’re never really ready, you just learn as you do. You’ll be an expert in no time Babygirl. You’re a natural anyways, always have been with your dolls when you were younger, and you’re amazing when you help out in the nursery. Everyone says so. So, there’s none of this ‘I can’t do this’ ‘I’m not ready’ because you’re so ready. Plus, this walkin’ will really help trust me and when we get back Alison already said she’ll check you to see how far along you are, as it’s been a while, I’m sure it won’t be too much longer now.”
“I really hope so, I don’t know how much more I can take.”
“You got this Baby.” He kisses the top of her head before they link arms again and carry on walking back to the house.
🌷🌷🌷🌷
It’s another two hours till she gets to the point where she can push. They set the living room up for her ready. And she opts on squatting before the sofa as she finds that is the most comfortable position. Alison is on the floor watching between her legs waiting for the signs she can begin to push; ready to catch. Maria next to her in awe rubbing at Sarah’s lower back so that Tommy and Joel can sit on the sofa either side of her, both holding one of her hands. Unable to see anything more than her face which is just as she wants it to be.
“I feel sick.” She whimpers when in position just having got through another contraction.
“Theres a bin here ready just in case.” Maria reassures.
“A lot of ladies feel sick or even throw up when they’re in labour, it’s okay don’t be worried; all perfectly normal.” Alison states rubbing a hand up one of her legs.
“Okay. Can I have some more water?” she asks to no one in particular.
“Here Baby.” Joel is quick to grab a glass of water from the side. Sarah sits back on her heels releasing both hands she holding to take a large swig from the glass.
“Ugh.” She grimaces handing the glass back to her dad. “That’s made me feel worse, I thought it might help.” She moans.
“I’m sure it has helped baby y’bodys just goin’ through so much right now s’finding it hard, you’re fine Baby trust me.” He strokes her cheek.
She nods then briefly smiling at her dad before moaning as another pain begins. She quickly grabs both hand back and sways in her squatting position.
When she gets the all clear to push, she gives it absolutely everything she’s got, desperate for it all to be over now so she can finally meet her baby.
“Come on Babygirl!” Joel shouts.
“You got this!” Tommy shouts.
Alison counts to ten and at ten Sarah lets out a large gasp.
When She’s able to get her breath back enough to speak before the next contraction she adds “No one tell me what it is, okay? I wana see for myself when they’re in my arms.”
“That’s fine sweetie we can do that no problem, you can be the one to announce it okay?” Alison utters.
The next pain then takes over and Sarah is right back into the pushing mindset, going completely silent as she pushes and pushes. Finally releasing her breath with a gasp.
“One more and the head will be out Sarah come on, baby is nearly here.”
“Come on one more Baby and the worst is over.” Joel reassures.
“Promise?” she looks pleadingly to her dad.
“Yeah Baby, heads the worst part, the baby will be out before you know it after that.”
“Oh thank God.”
“Push with all you’ve got on this next pain! They’re almost here!” Alison enthuses.
When the next contraction begins Sarah screams the house down as she pushes, squeezing her dad and uncle’s hands to death. She feels the head pop out and Alison requests that she pants.
“Can I feel?” Sarah requests frantically between pants.
“Sure!” Alison enthuses.
She releases her dad’s hand to feel her baby’s head.
“Is that hair?” she questions.
“Yup, they’ve got a hell of a lot of it!” Alison exclaims.
“That’s just like you Baby.” Joel utters causing Sarah to look into his eyes. She smiles at him, and he smiles back. “Now gimme your hand back so you’re ready to push again.”
“No Daddy, my hands gross now.”
“I don’t care come on I’m supposed to be supportin’ you.”
She seems hesitant but when the next contraction gets into full swing, she throws her hand back at her dad and pushes. She takes a quick breath in and is advised to push again. With that final push the baby leaves her body, and she relaxes instantly.
“Good well-done Sarah! They’re gorgeous!” she exclaims as she begins wiping the screaming babies face with a clean towel.  “Let’s get this cord cut so you can sit back nice and covered up whilst we wait for the afterbirth, okay? Then everyone can meet this beautiful baby.” Now the cord is white she cuts it, and Sarah carefully moves so her back is against the sofa and Maria carefully picks up the swaddled baby and places them in her arms. Alison places a sheet over her knees so she can focus on getting the afterbirth out without anyone having to see.
“Well, what have we got?” Joel whispers leaning over his daughters shoulder to coo at his beautiful grandchild screaming softly swaddled in the towel.
Sarah opens up the towel to investigate letting out a wet chuckle at her findings. “It’s a girl!” she announces excitedly.
“A girl!” Joel replies wetly, unable to stop the tears that begin to flow.
Joel is besotted.
“God she’s so beautiful Baby. Looks so much like you did too.”
“I can’t believe I did it.”
“You did amazin’.” Tommy praises. “S’like a trip down memory lane aint it, God she could be your twin Sarah aint that right big brother?”
“Absolutely.” Joel agrees.
She turns her gaze to her uncle. Then she looks to her dad. “I’m sorry if I killed your hands.”
“Nah none of that.” Tommy quicky shuts her down.
“She’s so beautiful.” Joel coos bringing a finger to stroke over his now silent and content granddaughters hand.
“You wana hold her?” Sarah whispers questioning her dad not taking her eyes off her daughter.
“Please.”
“Maria can you-?” she begins but Maria is already moving “I’m one step ahead of you” she laughs. Helping to remove the baby from Sarah’s arms to give over to Joel.
“God she’s so gorgeous” Maria coos before handing her over to Joel.
He sits back with his granddaughter cradled in his large arms.
“Oh.” He whispers quietly when her big brown eyes open to study him. “Hello beautiful girl, God just look at you. Aren’t you just the most beautiful little thing. And little do you know just how lucky you are having Sarah as your momma? You’re so lucky babygirl, just like we are all lucky to have been blessed w’you.” He shushes her when she makes a little grunt noise, but she settles quickly. “Sarah m’so proud of you she is the most beautiful little thing.”
“She’s got a name y’know dad” she jests.
“She does, well what’s that then babygirl, can’t keep calling her ‘she’ now, can we?”
“Bea. It means ‘she who brings happiness’, I read it in a book and knew instantly that that was gonna be her name if she was a girl.” Sarah utters, with a big smile plastered on her face as she looks back at her dad cradling her tiny daughter.
“Bea huh?” he chuckles wetly. “Well aint that just the most beautiful name, for the most beautiful girl.” She coos in response. Making everybody laugh. He adds “Yeah y’know it don’t you Bea Miller, you’re gorgeous just like your mama.”
“This is the best day of my life.” He adds a short while later, “’part from the day you were born of course babygirl.” He strokes Sarah’s head, and she laughs lightly before he looks at his granddaughter again.
He’s besotted, so full of love he could burst.

Sonia x male childhood friend s/o
Tumblr media
Sonia, Leon, and s/o all began their Pokémon journey together.
After Leon defeated s/o in the Galar league and became champion, s/o decided to go to other regions to continue his journey and someday return to Galar and have a rematch against Leon.
Sonia didn’t want s/o to leave, for she had fallen in love with him during their journey, but ultimately respected s/o’s decision.
Years go by since s/o left Galar, but not a single moment passed where Sonia didn’t miss her childhood friend and wished she had confessed her feelings to him back then.
Nowadays, Leon is still the reigning champion, and Sonia followed her grandmother’s footsteps and became a professor with Leon’s brother Hop as her assistant.
One day, Leon, who had finally lost the Champion title to Hop’s childhood friend Victor, rushes into Sonia’s lab excitedly.
“Jeez Leon, what has you in such a hurry?”
Sonia asks.
“It’s s/o! He texted me and said he’s coming back home for a visit!”
Leon says with a wide smile on his face.
Sonia goes wide-eyed before jumping up from her desk and runs over to Leon and reads s/o’s text.
“I-I can’t believe it! He’s really coming back!”
Happy tears stream down her face.
Leon smiles and puts his hand on her shoulder.
“He’ll be arriving at Wedgehurst station soon, I told him to meet us here at the lab. Maybe when he gets here you should finally tell s/o how you feel about him.”
Sonia blushed and thought about it for a few seconds.
“You’re right Leon. I have another chance to confess to s/o, and I’m not gonna blow it like I did before.”
She says with a confident smile.
Leon laughs and pats her on the shoulder.
“Good. I’ve always thought you two should be together. I know without a doubt that he returns your feelings.”
Sonia smiles and blushes while thinking about her and s/o as a couple.
Half an hour later, the door to the lab opens and reveals a young man with (favorite color) eyes and (favorite color) hair.
“Hey guys, it’s been a while huh?”
Leon goes over to give his old friend a bro hug while Sonia stares at s/o with a deep blush on her face.
“He’s even hotter than he was before he left.”
Sonia thinks to herself, but accidentally says out loud.
Leon and s/o turn to her, the former smirking and the later looking at her with a faint blush on his face.
“T-thanks Sonia, I think you look hot too. I-I mean, not hot as in pretty, though you are very beautiful, I-I mean…”
Leon busts out laughing at his flustered and red-faced friends.
“Get a room you guys. Seriously, you two are awful at being subtle.”
He walks over to Sonia and begins gently pushing her over to s/o.
“S/o, there’s something that Sonia wants to tell you.”
Sonia blushes and pulls s/o into a warm hug.
“I missed you so much since you’ve been gone s/o, and there’s something I wanted to tell you before you left but I chickened out.”
She lets go of him and takes a deep breath.
“I love you s/o, and I have ever since you, Leon, and I went on our journey together. I was heartbroken when you decided to leave the region, and I wanted to tell you my feelings before you left, but I didn’t because I was scared of how you would react. All these years later s/o, and I still love you. So will you stay right here in Galar and be my boyfriend?”
S/o stared at his friend in shock before moving closer to her.
“Sonia…”
He said in a tone of both surprise and sadness.
“If I had known you felt that way about me, I’d have never left. Truth is…I love you too. I’ve had feelings for you since we were kids, but I never acted on them because I thought you only saw me as a friend. When I left, all I could think of was you. I traveled to various regions and met lots of new people, but nothing could keep my mind off of you. That’s why I came back, I figured that even if you didn’t return my feelings, you’re still one of my best friends whom I wanted to visit after so long. But now that I know you love me back, I’ll stay right here in Galar with you.
Sonia looks at him with tears in her eyes before grabbing his face and kisses him passionately.
After pulling away to regain their breath, Sonia gives s/o a warm smile.
“I’ve imagined doing that for years s/o, and I must say it was just as amazing as I imagined it being. I love you so much s/o.
S/o smiles and brushes his thumb through her hair.
“I love you too Sonia.”
Leon watches the scene in front of him and wipes a happy tear from his eye, overjoyed that his ship has become a reality.
S/o turns to Leon with a smirk.
“Don’t forget Leon, even though you aren’t Champion anymore, doesn’t mean I don’t want my rematch against you.
Leon smirks back at him.
“Anytime anyplace s/o.”
They all laugh, Sonia wrapping her arms around s/o’s waist and kissing him on the lips.
“I’ll be looking forward to that rematch, I can’t wait to see how strong a trainer my boyfriend has gotten.”
S/o blushes before giving Leon a friendly glare.
“You heard her Leon, you wanna battle now?”
Leon nods with a confident smile.
“Sure, but get ready to lose to me again s/o.”
S/o smirks.
“Not a chance dude, I’m not gonna lose to you in front of my girl!”
With that said, both Leon and s/o rush out of the lab and prepare to start their battle as Sonia thinks about who she should cheer for (it’s totally s/o by the way).

I Love Him- Part 4
I hop out of Steve’s truck at the local gas station and let Eddie jump out while I pump gas. I huff and close the door almost out of breath from that little bit of exercise. I am now three months pregnant and Steve and I have decided to do a gender reveal party when I’m five months pregnant so Tani and Grace spend most of their free time together planning everything.
I stretch as I watch Eddie pee in the grass before trotting over to me. I turn around and head into the gas station to pay for my gas and smile at Greg, the owner of the station before telling him the pump number so I can pay for my gas. He throws Eddie a treat and I smile as I put my card in to pay.
I grab my receipt and turn around to get Eddie and furrow my eyebrows when I don’t see him, “Eddie? Ed where are you?” I run to the back when I hear Eddie bark and a screech from a young girl. I reach the scene to see Eddie sniffing the girls pants like he sniffs out drugs and I furrow my brows in worry. I look at the girl to see her smiling at Eddie and sigh knowing she’s not scared and then it dawns on me, no one else is in the store except for me, the girl, and Greg.
I call Eddie off of her and kneel down to meet her height, “Hey there, what’s your name?” She looks at me a little nervous before she answers, “Lillian.” I smile, “Hi Lillian I’m Y/N. Are you here alone?” She nods and my frown deepens before I force a kind smile, “Where’s your mommy?” She looks down and shrugs, “I don’t have a mommy.” I bite my lip and nod, “What about your daddy?”
She looks scared as she meets my eyes, “He’s at home, he gets really mad at me sometimes so I came to buy him some gummies as an apology.” I grit my teeth when I see the bruise on her arm that is clearly that of a hand. I take her arm into my hand and ask, “Did your daddy do this?” She nods and I huff trying to keep my anger down so I don’t scare her, “Well, do you want to come with me and Eddie so we can help your daddy?”
She bites her lip and shifts her weight from one foot to the other, “I don’t know I don’t want to get in trouble.” I fight back tears of anger and sadness at the fear in her voice, “I’ll protect you, I promise.”
She nods and takes my hand as I stand. I lead her to the truck and open the back door before lifting her in and frown when she winces. I lift her shirt slightly and grit my teeth at the sight of a bruise on her ribs. I climb up and buckle her in, “Do you want Eddie to ride back here with you?” She nods enthusiastically and I chuckle as I order Eddie up. He lays down with his head in her lap and she giggles as she pets his head.
I walk into 5-0 headquarters with Lillian beside me holding me hand and Eddie following behind, “Steve?” He turns around with a smile that quickly turns to confusion as he sees Lillian, “What’s wrong?”
“We need to talk.” He nods and I squat in front of Lillian, “Alright Lillian, I’m going to go talks to my boyfriend and you’re going to stay here with Eddie and my friends, is that okay?”
She looks at me with wide eyes and I know she’s scared, I point to Danny, “You see that short dude over there?” She nods and Danny glares, “That’s my brother, he’ll make sure you stay safe.” She nods and smiles at Eddie before kneeling on the ground to play with him.
I sigh when the door to Steve’s office closes with us in the room, “What’s going on Y/N/N?” I look at Lillian as I let my anger flare up, “Her dads a piece of shit that’s what!” He grabs my arms, “Woah hey calm down, what happened?”
“I was at Greg’s paying for my gas and Eddie disappeared and I found him sniffing the crap out of her pants, Steve I think her dads an addict.”
“What makes you think that? Because of Eddie sniffing her?”
I nod and he looks skeptical, “Steve I’m telling you she either has the remnants of drugs on her pants or she has a cheeseburger stuffed in them.”
He nods and I continue, “She’s five Steve, and she was alone in a gas station to buy gummy bears as an apology to her father because she had made him mad. Steve he’s abusing her, she has bruises all over her and I think she might have a fractured rib.”
Now he looks pissed, “I’ll look into him what’s his name?” I shrug, “I don’t know but I know hers, it’s Lillian Wright.”
He nods before grabbing his tablet and typing in the name, “Here I found her. Her mom died due to complications of child birth,” I sigh at this and he looks at me worried, “Steve, I’ll be okay.” He nods before he continues, “Her dads name is Dion Wright, he’s 35, and has been charged with the possession of drugs with the intent to sell at the age of 22. Looks like he was on the straight and narrow after he got married at the age of 28.” I sighed, “Something tells me he fell off the wagon after his wife died.” Steve nodded and looked out at Lillian and smiled at her rolling on the ground with Eddie, “I’ll take Junior and Danny with me and pay Dion a visit, and I’ll have Jerry call child services.”
I grab his arm, “Steve, I have a favor to ask.” He looks at me with a quirked brow, “Can she stay with us?” He looks at me surprised, “What?” I grab his arm, “Steve, please, she trusts me and I won't be at ease with her in some group home somewhere. She doesn’t deserve that.”
He bites his lip before nodding, “Okay, but only till they find something better for her.” I smile and hug him, “Thank you. Call me with any updates, I’m going to take Lillian clothes shopping and give her a bath, something tells me she hasn’t had one of those in awhile.” He nods before we head out to the office and I tell Lillian what we’re doing and she jumps up and down in excitement.
Steve’s POV
When Y/N came in with Lillian and told me what was going on I felt my blood boil, more than it ever had before. I went out and explained what was going on and instructed Jerry to call CPS and then call Y/N and let her know what they said.
On the way to Dion’s I hold the steering wheel in a death grip something that doesn’t slip by Danny, “Hey, Steve, relax man we’ll get him.” I glance over at Danny momentarily store shaking me head, “I can’t help it, you don’t do that to a child and then go about your day and expect nothing to happen to you, it’s grating on my nerves more than it should.”
Danny sighs with a small smile, “That’s because your dad instincts are kicking in, you’re viewing it from a dads point of view now. And you unknowingly imagine your child, or children in this case, as the victim and it makes you angry.”
I nod as I realize he’s right, “I think Y/N wants to keep her.” Junior pokes up from the back seat, “She’s not a dog, you can’t just lay claims on her.” Danny nods, “He’s right, she could have family elsewhere that will take custody of her.” I nod, “Yeah, I know, but I don’t know how to explain that to Y/N without her getting all emotional.” Danny sighs as I pull into the driveway of a small house, “She’s going to be emotional, you can’t change that, she’s formed a bond with Lillian very fast, I do have to say it is strange how fast they bonded.”
I knock on the door before yelling, “Dion Wright, this is Commander Steve McGarrett with the 5-0 task force, we have a couple questions for you!”
I grit my jaw when there’s no answer and Junior yells from the back, “The back doors open but I don’t think he left.” Danny and I walk behind the house before we enter, guns drawn. I look around in disgust at all the trash and liquor bottles layering the floor, “No kid should ever live like this.” When we enter the living room I take note of the syringes laying around easily accessible to Lillian. I look at the couch to see Dion passed out holding a liquor bottle.
I go over and grab him before hauling his ass off the couch, “Dion wake up!” He wakes up disoriented and looks around and slurs out curses as I hand him off to Junior while me and Danny search the place. I sigh in anger as I look around the house and find evidence of drug abuse. I turn around when Danny whistles, “Steve, over here.” I enter a room that is clean and semi organized with a few toys scattered around and a pillow and blanket in the corner, “This must be Lillian’s room.” He nods before motioning to a draw in a dresser. I look in it and flare my nostrils, “Y/N was right, Eddie definitely smelled drugs on her clothes.”
There in Lillian’s dresser with her clothes was bags of weed and cocaine, “This is absolutely disgusting, how much of a lowlife do you have to be to hide your drugs in your daughter belongings?”
I look around the room and notice a stuffed bear laying by the pillow. I grab it and notice that it is well loved, I feel tears cloud my vision as I realize just how much that little girl had been through, “She’s five. She’s five Danny and she’s already been exposed to more than a teenager should be.”
I walk out the door of the house to see Dion placed in a squad car and tell the officer to take him to the palace. Junior motions to the bear in my hand and I hold it up, “I’m taking it to Lilly.” Junior and Danny share a look as I get in the car and I can’t decipher what it meant.
When we get back to the palace I walk into the interrogation room with Danny before glaring at Dion, “What the hell is wrong with you!?” Before he can answer the door swings open again to reveal a pissed off Y/N and I’m not about to stand in her way.
Y/N’s POV
I smile as Lillian runs around the store in awe grabbing pink and purple shirts and skirts and dresses. I help her pick a pair of shoes that are pink and white with gold stars and light up when you stomp them. I find her size and watch her walk in them before my phone rings. I look to see it’s Jerry and quickly answer, “Hey Jer.”
“Hey Y/N/N, Steve wanted me to call you when I got off the phone with CPS and they got back to me.”
I hum as I help Lillian put on her old sandals before adding the shoes to the already full cart, “Yeah?”
“Well they did some digging and she does have an aunt,” I feel my heart drop at the thought of sending her away before Jerry continues, “However she is doing ten to twenty in a female correctional facility in Louisiana for assault and battery. So the case worker wants to talk to you and Steve since I told her you two wanted to take her in temporarily.” I smile and nod as Lillian looks at me curiously, “Okay, thanks Jer, do you know when she wants to meet?”
“Yeah, she said she would come around your house around five this evening.”
I smile, “Okay, thanks Jerry.”
I get off the phone and I look at Lillian in question as I laugh, “Alright Lilly why are you staring at me?”
She giggles, “I like that name.” I furrow my brows, “What name?” She hugs my legs, “Lilly.” I smile but my heart drops in sorrow for the young girl at the fact she has never even had a nickname, “Did you want to know anything else?” She nods before poking my belly, “Why’s your belly so big?”
I snort and choke back a laugh as I pick her up, “I’m pregnant, do you know what that means?” She shakes her head and I think, “Okay, it means I’m having a baby, I’m actually having two.” Her eyes widen, “Wow! Can I have a baby?” I open my mouth as the woman down the aisle who just so happens to have a baby in her arms laughs, “No, Lilly you can’t have a baby.” She pouts, “Why?”
“You’re to little sweetheart and you need a husband to have a baby.” She tilts her head to the side, “But you don’t have a husband you said you had a boyfend.” I chuckle at the way she said boyfriend and nod, “Yes that’s true, but me and Steve got our priorities a little mixed up. But I still have someone that loves me and that is why I’m having babies.”
She nods, “I wike Steve, he’s cute.” I bust out laughing as does the woman down the aisle who had been enjoying our conversation as well as me, “Yeah, I know he’s cute that’s why I’m having his babies. He’s a very nice man and guess what.” I set her down as she asks, “What?” I tweak her nose, “I think he likes you too.” She smiles and giggles before she gets distracted by the toys. I sigh out of relief and the woman comes a little closer, “She seems like quite the curious little girl.” I nod, “Yeah she sure is.”
She looks at me, “Is she your niece?” I shake my head, “Umm, well no, I’m looking after her, she came from an unfortunate situation so I’m looking after her for now.” She smiles and nods, “I’m actually a social worker, I work with situations like these,” she shifts the baby to her other arm before extending her hand, “My names Samantha.” I smile and shake her hand, “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Y/N.” She glances at Lilly when she calls my name to show me a stuffed dog that looked like Eddie. I chuckle when she moves on to the baby dolls and Samantha smiles, “It seems like you two have formed quite the bond.” I shrug, “You think so?” She nods, “Oh most definitely, she even looks like she could be your child she has Y/H/C hair like you and her face is similarly shaped to yours, the only thing is she has blue eyes.” I laugh, “My boyfriend has blue eyes.” She nods, “See match made in heaven.” I smile and excuse myself as Steve calls, “Hey babe what’s up?”
“We got Dion in custody I’m heading back now to question him, how’s Lilly doing?” I smile at the nickname he unknowingly used, “She’s good, you should see her Steve, she was so excited to pick her own clothes, and don’t get me started on the squealing when she found out they have shoes that light up.” He laughs, “That’s good, hey I found a teddy bear at the house in her room and grabbed it for her.” I melt on the inside, “Aww Steve she’ll love you for that. Oh, also, she has alerted me that you are indeed very cute.” The laugh that leaves his mouth has me smiling from ear to ear, “Alright Steve, I’m gonna pay for all this and then head back.”
“Okay, love you.”
“Love you too.”
I hang up the phone and call Lilly over, “Come on Lilly we have to go.”
When we get to 5-0 headquarters I put Lilly’s new shoes on after she gives me puppy eyes and I know she’s going to get whatever she wants if she uses those on me or Steve, or anyone else for that matter.
She runs through the doors, “Look! Look at me shoes! They glow!” Everyone turns around and laughs at her enthusiasm and I furrow my brows, “Where’s Steve and Danny?” Tani tells me they’re in the interrogation room and I glance at Lilly to see her stomping her feet and animatedly talking to Junior.
“Hey Lilly?” She spins around with a smile and nods, “Yeah mo-Y/N?” My eyes widen as I realize what she almost said and I notice the surprise in Tani and Juniors eyes as well as the guilt and worry in Lilly’s. I hide my surprise and pretend to not notice and watch as she sighs a breath of relief, “I’m gonna head downstairs to find Steve, can you stay here with Tani and Junior?” She nods her head and grabs one of Juniors hands with both of hers and nods.
I bust through the interrogation room door letting all my anger roll out of me when I see Dion’s face. I walk right up to him and smack him before backing up to stand by Steve. Dion grits his teeth and glares at me while Danny and Steve glare at him, “What the hell was that for?”
I feel my nose flare in anger before growling, “You beat your daughter, trust me you deserve a lot worse than that!”
He rolls his eyes and my anger flares up again, “Why!? What the hell did I five year old do to you to cause you to beat her!?”
He glares at me before yelling, “She killed my wife! She is no daughter of mine!” I feel my whole body scream at me to beat him to death but Steve’s warm hand on my hip reminds me that I have too much to live for and going to jail will not be a good choice.
I feel Steve’s thumb stroke up and down my hip in a comforting manner and it semi helps, “She didn’t kill your wife, if anything, you did.” Dion looks at me with anger and pain in his eyes, “How could you say that!? I loved my wife!” I nod, “Yeah, well if you want to get technical you got your wife pregnant, therefore you are the reason she died. So the next time you want to blame Lilly for your wife’s death, remember this conversation.”
He looks at me speechless as well as Steve and Danny and I notice the new look of worry in Steve’s eyes and I realize this whole situation is getting to his head. I walk to go out the door before changing my mind and spinning on my heel and storming up to Dion before punching him with all my strength. He groans and looks down with his eyes closed and I seethe, “That was for Lilly.”
I stand out in the hall for a couple minutes before Steve and Danny emerge. I look at Steve to see that the worry is till in his eyes. I glance at Danny and give him my sister face that tells him I really need him to listen to me and not ask questions, “Danny, can you give me and Steve a minute?” He looks between us and nods before heading to the elevator.
When the elevator dings I grab Steve’s face, “Steve, it’s not going to happen, stop thinking about it.” He shakes his head, “But what if it does?” I rub his cheekbones as tears fill his eyes, “Steve, look at me, I will be okay. How many people do you know that have died in child birth?” He shrugs and I pull his head down, “Exactly, it doesn’t happen often and even if it did, which it won’t, I know you’ll take care of them which is all the reassurance I need to know we’re making the right decision.” He smiles and nods before kissing me gently pouring his emotions into the kiss. I pull away slightly, “Did Jerry tell you the CPS woman is coming to the house around 5?” He nods and I pull him in for one more kiss before stepping back, “Good, now, go give Lilly her bear.”
I watch in delight as Steve bends down with Lilly’s bear in his hands and holds it out for her. Her eyes light up and instead of taking the bear she runs into Steve’s arms and gives him a hug. Steve wraps his arms around her before standing with her on his hip. I smile at the sight as butterflies swarm my stomach.
I lean into the truck and buckle Lilly’s seatbelt over her and her pink booster seat that I bought when I got her clothes. When we get home I help her out of the truck and Steve grabs all the bags from the backseat. Before Lilly and I went shopping I dropped Eddie off at home and Lilly was anxiously waiting to see her buddy.
When I open the door Lilly rushes in and stops at the back door with her mouth open, “We have an ocean!?” I look at Steve and we share a smile before Steve walks over to Lilly and rests a hand on her shoulder, “Yeah Lilly we do.”
After a couple hours Junior is home and playing with Lilly outback along with Eddie. I twiddle my thumbs and check the time again before Steve lays his hand on my knee, “Relax, she’ll be here soon.” As if on cue there’s a knock at the door and I look at steve nervously. He tells me to relax before opening the door and welcoming the woman and my mouth drops, “Samantha?” She turns to me and smiles, “Well what do ya know? It’s good to see you again Y/N.”
Steve looks between us confused as he stands by my side. I chuckle and wrap my arm around his waist, “Steve, this is Samantha. I met her today when I was shopping with Lilly.” He nods and shakes Samantha’s hand before guiding us to the table. I sit beside Steve as Samantha sits across from us, “Alright, let’s get started.” Steve and I nod and I relax slightly when he grabs my hand under the table and runs his thumb across my knuckles.
After another hour we’re finishing up when the back door swings open and Lilly comes running over and clambering onto Steve’s lap. She grabs his face and pulls him in so they’re nose to nose, “Did you know there are these cool things called seashells and when you hold them to your ear you can hear the ocean!?”
I see Steve bite back a smile as he acts surprised, “No! I had no idea.” She leans back and nods before jumping off his lap and grabbing his hand, “Come on I’ll show you!” He looks at Samantha who nods before he’s pulled out the door by Lilly who is telling him about how cool it is.
I look at Samantha as she asks, “I assume he’s good with kids?” I nod, “Yeah, that’s one of the things that I love about him so much. Within a day of knowing him my niece started calling him Uncle Steve and now my nephew does too although he was pretty much raised around Steve but he doesn’t believe me when I say he’s a natural. And then today he met Lilly and I think he may just be her favorite person if you can’t tell.”
She laughs and nods, “From what I see you and Steve check off all the boxes that a foster parent should have, you have a nice home, a strong relationship, a love and respect for children that aren’t yours, and more importantly a strong support system to lean on when you need help.” I glance at Junior who was standing in the living room before nodding.
When Steve comes back in he’s listening to Lilly babble on about how cats are her favorite but she likes dogs too and how horses are also her favorite. Steve nods as he somehow keeps up with her super speed talking. When she finishes she runs over to Junior and asks him to turn on SpongeBob.
Steve sits back down and Samantha closes her notebook, “You guys will get the final paperwork to become Lilly’s foster parents in a few days.” We smile and she goes to leave but turns around, “Can I be quite frank with you?” Steve and I look at each other worried before I hesitantly nod. Samantha comes a little closer, “Lilly will stay here until she finds an adoptive family but with someone as young and cheerful as her it won’t be long, so you two have a very special decision to make.” I look at Steve and he asks, “You mean us adopting Lilly?”
Samantha nods, “Yes, you guys will be accepted quickly since you’re her foster parents but you have to make a decision and file for adoption papers before someone else does.”
I look at Steve before asking, “How long do you think we have to make a decision?”
She sighs, “It’s hard to tell, every case varies but I’d say no more than two weeks.”
I turn to Steve after Samantha leaves before glancing at Lilly, “What do we do?”

Excerpt:
Lucy swayed her hips slowly from side to side and hummed along with the music as she flipped the last blueberry pancake onto a plate.
“Tamara!” She yelled over the song. “Pancakes are ready!”
Tamara came out of her room and slid noise-canceling headphones over her ears.
Lucy rolled her eyes and grabbed her phone to turn the music all the way down. A moment later, the bluetooth speaker beeped once to indicate it was powering off.
“Message received,” Lucy said, still basically shouting. “You can take those off.”
It had been two weeks since that night in the parking garage with Tim. They hadn’t exchanged more than polite pleasantries and strained smiles in the days since and Lucy was struggling.
Not just struggling… she was scared.
Now that she knew Tim had feelings for her, it suddenly felt like she had everything to lose. Before the day of the bomb, she could shove her feelings aside and tell herself it was never going to happen.
There was no risk in what couldn’t be, right?
She’d told him she needed a little time and space, and he’d definitely given it to her.
Now that he had the rotation coming up … it was like every day she could feel the distance grow another inch between them. What if she woke up one day and it was miles wide? Would they ever make up for the lost ground?
Tamara took the headphones off slowly, her eyes narrow.
“It’s safe, I swear,” Lucy chuckled.
“Is it?” Tamara asked with a touch of sarcasm in her tone. “Does that mean you’re finally going to tell me why you’ve been acting so weird?”
“I’m just going through an adjustment period,” Lucy insisted, not for the first time. “It’s a temporary funk. I’ll be fine.”
“Uh huh,” Tamara nodded, her mouth full. She swallowed and tilted her head at Lucy. “I stopped by Tim’s last night so he could help me with the tire thing.”
Tamara twirled her hand in the air as she said it. Lucy’s pulse jumped at the mention of Tim’s name.
“Oh, did you get that all taken care of then?” Lucy asked in what she hoped was a normal voice.
“Yep,” Tamara said with a smile. “I may have mentioned you’ve been blasting Taylor Swift nonstop and at first he assumed you were listening to all her greatest breakup anthems because you dumped Chris and all.”
“Did he?” Lucy hummed, focusing on the pancake at the end of her fork instead of meeting Tamara’s gaze.
“So of course, I set him straight and told him you’re mostly playing one song on repeat and it isn’t even a breakup song.”
Tamara grinned, waiting for Lucy to contribute to the conversation. If you could call it that. Lucy had the sneaking suspicion it would end up being more of a lecture.
“Did you?” She muttered, not sure how she felt about Tamara spending time with Tim if it meant her in-depth music listening habits were the topic of conversation.
“And you know what’s crazy?” Tamara asked. “He guessed the song was New Year’s Day. Why do you think that is?”
“I might have played it in the shop once or twice when we were still riding together,” Lucy mumbled, looking everywhere but at Tamara.
Not that she needed to. She knew Tamara well enough to picture the expression on her face in her mind. It was smug and far too well-knowing for someone so young.
“He said it was a lucky guess,” Tamara added.
“Sure, lucky.” Lucy quickly agreed.
Tamara smiled and took another smug bite of her pancake...

Celebrity Crush || Talk Show
Paring: Joseph Quinn x Original female costar
Word Count: 3044
Summary: It’s Jimmy Fallon time
Warnings: fluff, secret relationship, health scare
A/N: Of course I make this up for this to go the way I want. (For this I’ll be using my OFC in Trouble in Hawkins for this OFC to play her.)
Last: Fallen in Love | Next:
Tumblr media
"Joseph, Joseph, Joseph..." I huff as he keeps ranting over the phone. "Can I talk now?" I ask when he stops. "Yes." He tells me. "I told you, I do this interview then early tomorrow morning I'm on a flight to Brazil. I'm still coming. I didn't change my schedule." I laugh at him. "So you're still coming?" He asks. "Yes! You know what." I send him a picture of my schedule so he knows exactly what I'm doing for the month. "See, I'm still coming." I smile through the phone. "Okay. I'll see you then. Love you." He tells me. "Love you too." I end the call. "So, theses are times I let Dexter out to potty. The time I feed him. An estimated time when he takes a nap and when he's most playful." I hand my brother a piece of paper. "You're such a mom." He laughs taking it from me. "Well I care about my son." I laugh with him.
"So does his dad." He jokes. My parents and my brother were the only ones who knew about Joseph and me like his parents and his siblings. They all knew it was a secret and they were keeping it a secret for us too. "Hey, I hear my girlfriend is taking you as her plus one to Lollapalooza. You suck." He shoves me as we walk into his living room. "Sorry, she loves me more. Also just ask her to get another one. Her uncle is Perry Farrell by the way." I slap his chest. "What?" He was shocked. "Yeah, I was shocked too." I jump onto his couch. "Perks to being related to a celebrity." He sits next to me. "You're related to me..." I chuckle. "Because we adopted you when you were just a little pea." He rocks a pillow in his arms. "Still related to a celebrity." I tell him. "So are you." He gives me a look. "Yeah, but James is not my family. He hooked up with Michelle and got her pregnant with me. But who cares about them because I have y'all as my family." I lean over giving him a hug.
Tumblr media
For the tonight show I sat in the room watching the show before it was my turn. As I come out the audience cheers for me as I take my seat. "Thank you, thank you." I laugh then angle my body to face Jimmy. "Thank you for being here. I know it's yours first time on the show." He tells me. "Yes, it is and thank you for having me." I give him a smile. "Before we talk about Season 4... I just learned that your adopted and you're very open about this on social media." He pulls out a photo of me and my family. "Yeah, they were very open about it with me at a very young age. They weren't those types of parents who kept it from me. Also that's the recent one I used. Every year I post a picture of all of us when it's the date they adopted me." I nod my head. "Do you know who your birth parents are? Have you met them? Or what?" He asks curious putting the picture down.
"I know who they are yes but I've never met them. Michelle, the woman who gave birth to me passed away years back and the man who helped make me is a huge rockstar." I laugh. "Who?" He leans forward. "I'm not telling." I say making the audience whine. "He knows I exist but we have never met so I can say that." I explain. "Okay, now onto season 4... what the heck. And Vol 2!" He makes me laugh. "I know. This season is so messed up." I nod my head. "Especially for Max, your character Skylar, and Eddie." He says. "Yeah, we aren't the lucky ones this season. Max and Skylar got trauma, Eddie's wanted for murder. Then you have El trying to get her powers back going through her past, then there's poor Will." I explain.
"Now I must say I love you and Joseph Quinn friendship." He pulls out a photo of us I posted. Once again we were in costume, and I was carrying him on my back while we were both cracking up. "I love our friendship too. He's my best friend. We clicked instantly when we met each other and became attached at the hip. We get along so well. Well depends especially when it comes to food. For example, I was in London for work and I was visiting him. He was cooking for us but he had to make my separate because I hate mushrooms. And for all of y'all to know, this man hates fussy eaters and I'm one." I laugh.
"So when it comes to food is where you two aren't buddy buddy anymore." Jimmy chuckles. "He told me to try it or our friendship is over." I get serious. "Did you try it or are you two no longer best friends?" He chuckles. "He chased me around his flat, Jimmy. He was determined I try it to see if I liked it because I had I refused to. I knew I wouldn't like it and turns out I didn't. He said I overreacted but we're still best friends so he puts up with me." I roll my eyes smiling. "See, I love you guys." He tells me. "I love our friendship and I love him too he's the best. All of y'all would feel the same if you were friends with him." I smile.
"Last thing, do you have any idea where Skylar is headed in Season 5? Where do you see her? What do you think the brothers might write for her?" He asks me. "God... just let her be happy. Don't let anyone die in her arms because it's just gonna scar her so much more for the rest of her life. I have no clue where she's headed. The brothers don't start writing next season until August. So... give her a happy ending Matt and Ross." I look straight into the camera. "Again, thank you for being here. It was a pleasure." Jimmy tells me. "Thank you for having me again." I smile at him.

"Guess who finally made it!" I walk into the room with Jamie and Joseph sitting down. "I hate you." Joseph glares at my outfits. "God damn it!" I look down at myself. "The best friends match. Even with the shoes." Jamie points out. "Whatever, I'm ready to be the third wheel. I've seen how you two have been acting." I take my seat on the other side of Joseph. "Hey guys, how you doing?" Hugo asks us while Joseph has trouble with his mic. "Jamie help the man." I tell him. "Yeah, just get in there." Joseph tells him then he's set. Hugo congratulates us on the season then asks the two about coming into the show. While Jamie talks about making Venca, Joseph looks over at me as I struggle with my water bottle. I pass him it to him and he opens it for me so I give him a thank you smile.
"There's a lot of discussion about hair in the series but seeing your hair right now, why are you not in the competition?" He asks Jamie so he said it's not in the show unfortunately and says Sarah does an amazing job for all of us. He talks about his was real and had to get a perm. Then they talk about Eddie being in the running with Steve with best hair so Joseph talks about going through different wigs. "Another person who should be in the running is Presley with her hair. It's all hers." Jamie looks over at me. "It's all up right now. But yes, I'm the show it's all me. So that's true, why am I not in the running?" I sit up in my chair. "Because you would win." Joseph grabs my arm. "I believe that." I agree.
Jamie goes on about becoming Vecna in makeup and what put him in the mind set of playing him. I fidget my anxiety spinner ring while I listen to him talk. Joseph then goes on about how it was sorta easier for him compared to Jamie. "I just did it in a silly voice." He makes us laugh as he goes on. "And they both did amazing jobs at pulling their characters off. Like I have to remind Joseph daily that he did such an amazing job at bring Eddie to life. He was worried while filming so now I tell him fans love him and can relate to him being an outcast. He made Eddie very lovable." I speak up. "I suspect that it's really easy for you to get into character?" He asks me. "Way more easier than theses two. I barely need time in the makeup trailer because I have such big curly hair. Plus I have three seasons on them."
Next he asks Joseph about when he read Eddie was dying and how he felt. He said of course he was devastated but he wasn't that surprised but he loved the ending for Eddie. "You may have loved his arc and ending but I hated it because Eddie's my favorite character. He brought so much especially for Dustin and Skylar." I say then see one of my team members motioning they needed to talk to me. We have to pause the interview for a second for me to leave the room then they keep going after I leave. "What's the emergency?" I ask as they pass me the phone. "Hello?" I say into it. "Sweetheart, I know you're busy with work and you just landed but it's your father." My mom says making me worry. "What happened?" I try not to think anything terrible. "He had a heart attack and is in the hospital." She tells me. "Is he okay now?" I ask her. "They said he might have to stay for a week. But it can change if surgery doesn't go as plan."
"I'm getting on a plane to come back home as soon as I can get one. Family is more important than work. I'll text or call to update you." I tell her hanging up the phone and tell my assistant I need a plane ride home as soon as possible. I go to my hotel room to pack up what little I took out of my suitcases when I got here. "Presley." I hear Joseph knock on my door. "Is everything okay?" He asks as I open the door. "I have to go home. My dad had a heart attack." I go back over to my bags. "Is he okay?" Joseph asks worried. "He's in surgery right now. My brother said it was a STEMI Heart Attack which is the worst one." I turn to face him. "Hey, I believe he'll be alright. Nothing bad is gonna happen to him." Joseph wraps his arms around holding me against his chest causing me to start to cry.
"I know you were looking forward to me being here." I try to stop crying. "Yes, but your family is more important than interviews. And I'll see you back in the states when I go for my Tonight Show Interview. Ans there's talk about trying to get me to meet Metallica at Lollapalooza. Just keep me updated on your dad." He holds my face in his hands before giving me a kiss.
~
Even after my dad was all better after surgery and recovering, I decided to stay home and cancel all my work just for weeks. I just wanted to make sure he was 100% okay. "Press, I told you to go home. As in your place to pay to live. I'm fine and the doctor said it was just a small scare. I'm healthy!" My dad tells me as I bring him a glass of water. "The longer you complain, I stay." I tell him. "I never want you to leave honey. I love having you here." He smiles making me laugh as the doorbell rings. To my surprise when I opened it Joseph was standing there, "What are you doing here?" I pull him inside hugging him. "I have The Tonight Show remember. I also have a small interview the next day. Also I get to meet Metallica." He smiles, "Also I brought your dad a card." He gives me a kiss before going to where my dad was.
"Joseph, what a surprise to see you." My dad gives him a hug. "I wanted to give this to you in person." He hands him the card. "Thank you, son." He takes it from him sitting down to read it. "I wanna know do you want to come with me tonight? I would love for you to be there with me." Joseph takes my hand into his. "Sure, if that's you want." I squeeze his hands.
Tumblr media
"Joseph there's nothing to be nervous about. You're gonna do great." I laughs as he nervously messes with his fingers. "It's my first talk show debut so I do have something to worry about, love." He puts his head back. I get up from my spot going I've to sit on his lap, "The crowd is gonna love you and you'll be fine." I grab his face so he would look at me. He wraps he arms around my waist holding me closer to him as he
presses his lips against mine. I don't pull away instead kiss him back the same manner he was kissing me. His tongue is quick as he slips it in, molding it around with mine. I pull back starting to laugh at him, "You're nervous to go out there but you'll make out with me in here?" I mess with his hair carefully not to mess it up. "It's different." He kisses me. "I'll be cheering you while I watch from in here. But I will be right back because I have to go pee." I leave his room. As I head back to his room Jimmy was surprised to see me. "What are you doing here Presley?" He chuckles. "Came to support Joseph. He asked me to come with him. He's nervous because it's his first talk show debut." I let him know before going back to Joseph. "Come here, I wanna hold you as I wait. You calm me down." He had his arms wide open for me.
When it was time for him to go out I give his a good luck kiss as he leaves. I watch Joseph talk about being held up at the airport and being recognized as Eddie. Joseph gives Jimmy a Hellfire shirt and he was excited to be apart of the club. "It's been amazing. I went to Brazil, never been there before." The crowd cheers. "Ah, you've been." I laugh at him. "People are passionate about your character. People love you. You crushed it." Jimmy tells him and I was happy people were letting him know. Joseph talks about what people probably relate to Eddie since he was recently at Comic-Con.
"I know Jack Black gave you a shoutout the other night." Jimmy say making him excited again. I remember Joseph calling me shouting into the phone that's how excited he wasn't seeing the video. Jimmy talks about how he played Eddie so well and that he didn't even know he wasn't American. "You doing Master of Puppets by Metallica. It's the greatest thing." Jimmy pulls out a picture from the scene of him playing. "It was a weird time during the pandemic where no one has seen any live music for ages. It was me, Gaten, and Presley. You've had them both on." Joseph says making the crowd cheer. "They're the best. And it was so fun. I was nervous but it was kinda like a rock concert. I got to feel like a rockstar for one night and that was pretty great." Joseph tells him and Jimmy said it was legendary.
"Speaking of Presley. You brought her tonight. I ran into her backstage before the show." Jimmy brings me up and the crowd cheers. "Yes, I asked her to come with me for support. And her being the best friend she is she agreed." He says making me smile. "Presley, why don't you run on out here for a second." Jimmy says seriously so I rush through backwards. They mic me up quick then I walk out way the the audience. "Great to see you again." Jimmy hugs me before I sit next to Joseph. He gives me a smile placing his hand on top of mine as I rest it on the armrest.
"I think I can speak for many people when I say I love you guy's friendship." Jimmy makes the crowd cheer loud making Joseph and I laugh. "I got really lucky we clicked and became best friends." Joseph looks over giving me a smile. "I have question to ask..." Jimmy says making us look at him. "Have you even had a secret crush on one another?" He asks so Joseph and I start laughing. "We've already said we were each other's Celebrity crush but while on set a had a little one on him." I admit. "Look at her, how can you not develop a crush on her?" Joseph motions towards Me making me shake my head with a smile. "Most people would think it's odd to admit in a friendship but we don't care." I add before I go back to the room to watch the rest of the interview

Soulmates? - II
|| Part I ||
author note: part 2 (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ I had fun writing this, young Vi is so dramatic and defensive (>ω<) and some more Lilia this time, at least! It’s fun writing him, I’m trying to do my best and write him well... I’m excited to write more about their dynamic in the future.
Please note that this is a female character.
characters: Violetta Palebloom (oc), Lilia Vanrouge
Tumblr media
It had been a week since the incident at the clearing.
At first, the paranoia was never ending. I could hardly walk from one room to another without looking over my shoulder, peering around suspiciously, waiting for him to just... Jump out, or something. Had I always been this way? The retainers regarded me oddly, and I was certain it was doing me no favours with my growing reputation. The advisors tried their best to steer any conversation away from my burgeoning reputation, but it was obvious. When the people looked at me, they didn’t smile. They looked scared.
Probably the most unfortunate result from the clearing was that, in order to avoid any further run-ins, I stayed in the castle. Which meant work. Lots of work. The more the responsibilities stacked up, the more I wondered why anyone had even fought for this position in the first place. It was all such a drag. By the end of the week, I was exhausted, my brain feeling like it was twisting and turning in place as it tried to cling desperately to every question, book and problem that had been placed before me. A broken kingdom takes time to heal, I remember the advisor scolding as I slumped on the table during one meeting. Yeah, great, and whose fault is that?
Slipping out of the castle was a breeze this time, my prior excellent attendance lulling the advisors into the belief that I’d suddenly grown out of absconding at every opportunity. I decided on a different path to Granny’s this time, a more covert route to keep myself out of sight. Just because he hadn’t seemed to approach the castle, didn’t mean he wasn’t still lurking around amongst the trees. The man was sneaky... After all, nobody else has been alerted to his presence yet. Just what was he up to? Perhaps telling the advisors would have been smart... But what if they’d be able to tell? Like, does finding your soulmate put a big arrow over your head, so everyone can tell?! My cheeks warmed at the thought. Granny’s reaction certainly didn’t help.
“Ne, granny... Have you ever met someone that makes your chest feel warm... like its on fire?”
“Mmm? Oh dear... Do you have a crush, little flower?”
“N-no, of course not! I just... Read about it, in one of those... books the advisors gave me!”
“Aha, I see, how lucky that such a book survived the war!”
Just remembering her teasing tone made my face flush. That ruled out telling her what had happened, I would never hear the end of it... Still, perhaps if I simply told the advisors that I had spotted an unknown outsider, they wouldn’t ask too many questions, the man in question would end up getting chased off and life would go on, without me having to look over my shoulder every day. Yes, that was it. That was the plan.
Eventually, Granny’s house appeared through the trees, and I felt the stress slowly melt from my shoulders. At least for a couple hours I could rest and eat some good food. Maybe I could even convince Granny to play with my hair again, I had worked all week, I deserved it!
“Granny, I’m baaaaa--- !?!”
“Oh. Hello, little one. Nice of you to finally join us.”
The man.
The man from the clearing...
The man from the clearing was... sitting at my grandmother’s table... Drinking tea?!
My jaw hung open and just like that, the warmth in my chest returned. Was this for real? Surely this was a nightmare... Maybe I had fallen asleep at the meeting table and--
“How many times have I told you not to slam that door? Honestly, little flower, you’ll bring the whole house down one of these days... Now come in, come in, I’ll fetch you some tea...”
Granny’s scolding was what snapped me awake, just in time to see the man raise his teacup to his lips with a smirk.
“Little flower? How cute.”
My face burned, right up to the tips of my ears. Combined with the warmth in my chest, bursting into a ball of flames would probably feel cooler.
“Grandma--”
“Now, now, don’t be so rude when we have a guest! Sit down.”
... Yet again, the universe proved that it indeed could get worse.
Reluctantly, I shifted away from the door, my feet dragging against the floor as I took a step--
“And take off those shoes, young lady!”
I jumped at Granny’s sudden quip, a wave of embarrassment washing over me as I felt my cheeks grow even hotter. Oh how embarrassing. I swear I could hear the man chuckling under his breath. In a fit of pique, I placed my shoes as far away as possible from his, holding my head high as I tried to appear as composed as possible, as if my cheeks weren’t bright red and I wasn’t coming off the tail end of a continuous scolding from my grandmother. I opted for the chair furthest way from the man, to which he cocked a brow, that same smirk still on his lips.
Silence fell in the room, and I could feel my skin prickling at the awkwardness of the situation. Clearly it was just me who felt that way though, as Granny was happily humming away in the kitchen as she prepared a fresh pot of tea, whilst our guest was simply staring over at me, smirking away, seeming as if he was right at home in my grandmother’s little home.
I eyed up the man sat opposite me, realising that before now, I hadn’t really gotten a good look at him, for one reason or another. He was clearly fae, the tips of his pointed ears poking out from amongst his hair. Speaking of, his hairstyle was... Interesting, streaks of hot pink peeking through his otherwise long, black locks. His lips, on the thin side, were still turned up in a nice but quickly becoming insufferable smirk. Wait, nice? Did I just think his smile was nice? What is wrong with me? It was only when our eyes locked that I realised that I had been essentially been openly gawking at him, whilst he watched, no less! His smirk had widened, a fang poking out roguishly as he stared back at me shamelessly. His lips parted, and I steeled myself... before a cup of tea was placed down in front of me.
“Grandma! Wh--”
“Now, dear, have you introduced yourself to our guest? It’s good manners, you should put it into practice, especially with--”
Good grief. “Grandma!!”
“Ah, we hadn’t got a chance yet. Is this your lovely granddaughter that you’ve been telling me about?”
Telling him about?!? I shot Granny a sharp look, but she continued on, like I wasn’t even there.
“Yes! I apologise, she’s surprisingly shy around new people, it seems. Little flower, this is Lilia. Lilia, this is--”
“He doesn’t need to know my name, Grandma!” I hissed, cutting her off. Was this old lady insane? Going to give out my name so easily. To another fae, no less! However, all she gave me was a disapproving look. But that name, Lilia... Why did it sound like I’d heard it before somewhere...? I tried to wrack my brain, hard as it might whilst simultaneously trying to keep the old lady in check. What details would she try to give out next, my age? My title? My measurements? Perhaps we needed a talk about boundaries.
“You’re so prickly today, little flower. Did you have a bad time at work? Either way, that’s no way to behave in front of guests. I’m terribly sorry, Lilia, she’s usually much warmer.”
The man, Lilia, chuckled, setting his teacup down. “It’s quite alright. Allow me to formally introduce myself. I’m Lilia. Lilia Vanrouge.”
Lilia Vanrouge... Lilia Vanrouge... Lilia... Vanrouge?
The colour drained from my face immediately, once fiery red cheeks turning paper white in a matter of seconds. My stomach twisted, feeling like a rock had just been tossed inside.
Lilia Vanrouge. That Lilia Vanrouge? Member of the Briar Valley royal guard Lilia Vanrouge? The many medalled general who’d seen countless conflicts, that Lilia Vanrouge?
The sound of chair legs scrapping along wooden floors filled the room as I stood, hand thumping on the table. Lilia reclaimed his teacup, lifting it to his lips, as if he expected such a reaction.
“Grandma, are you absolutely insane? You welcome an outsider into your home, and one from Briar Valley, no less! One with such close ties to their royal family! What are you, president of the Briar Valley fan club?! Do you have any idea how dangerous this is?!” I ranted, tone severe and scolding. My ire only grew as  Granny only sighed exasperatedly at my lecture.
“Well, I couldn’t leave him out in the forest all week, could I? I didn’t leave you.”
I reeled back, my hackles rising in offense and my expression darkening. “That... That is not the same.” The old lady shot me a sympathetic look, having the decency to look a bit sheepish as she seemed to realise that she’d crossed a line.
Wait... All week? He’d been staying here all week?
I groaned in frustration, hands rising to scrub at my face, the mounting frustration turning my voice akin to a whine. “Grandma, you know how hard things have been at work lately and now you’ve just made everything ten... no, a hundred times worse.” How was I supposed to explain this to the advisors? Hey guys, funny story, you know that general you are all terrified of? He’s in my grandma’s kitchen, fancy that! Been there all week, he’s a great help around the house apparently! And to top it all off, he--
Wait.
Does that mean...
My head shot up, my hands falling to cover my mouth. In my anger, I had completely blanked on one key, terrible detail. My soulmate...
The Lilia Vanrouge was my soulmate... Well, shit.
Suddenly, I didn’t feel so good. My head spun, and I’d wished I hadn’t stood so quickly from my chair. A weakness snuck up on my limbs, and my brain refused to cooperate, choosing rather to spin and distort my senses. I vaguely heard the sound of chair legs scraping against wood, and muffled voices. The exhaustion, the endless meetings, the anxiety, the anger, the frustration... It all seemed to come to a climax as I felt my legs slip out from under me and darkness slip over my vision.
... Ah, I guess the ground finally decided to swallow me after all.

It had been less than 24 hours since Tim’s, strange but albeit somehow unsurprising, interaction with Skye and Marinette at the coffee shop. He’d been thinking about it all night. And, oh wow it was daytime now. Then yeah, he’d been thinking about it all day too.
He’d gotten a text sometime late last night from Marinette confirming her number and wishing him a good night. Immediately, Tim saved her contact as “Marinette (coffee thief)” and proceeded to raid the house for any available snacks.
It wasn’t until it was once again time for Tim’s nightly visit to the cafe that he’d finally come to a decision. He walked in to find Marinette already sitting in what he assumed was her regular spot talking to Skye.
As soon as the young barista noticed him, their face split into a smug smile. “So what have you decided?” She said it like she already knew his answer.
“I’ll do your silly little second Coffe Trial,” he says, noticing the way Skye’s eyes light up. “ If Marinette agrees to it too. I mean, I beat your first one. I’m sure I can beat this one too.”
“Excellent!” Skye says with a clap of their hands. “Marinette already agreed to it and said she’d go through as long as you did. We can start tonight.”
Marinette snorts from her spot on the couch. “You really have a flair for the dramatic. That last sentence sounded so ominous I’m almost scared for my safety.”
“Almost scared is not fully scared, and so I take your confidence in my ability to not put you in active danger with a bow,” Skye says, ending their retort with an over-exaggerated curtsy.
Rolling her eyes Marinette simply tells the barista, “Ok you theatrical ninny.”
“Ninny?” Tim questions with a barely repressed smile.
Marinette blushes. “My, uh, erm, the first way I learned English was from someone who’d been in Britain for a considerable amount of time, and was a bit of an… outdated old source.”
Tim decided not to comment on the way he saw Mari ever so slightly flinch and discreetly glare at her purse, which sat on her lap. Who was he to judge someone else for being a bit crazy and/or eccentric?
Hell, he throws on a costume and uses a grappling hook to swing across buildings with the adoptive father who dresses up like an emo and depressed bat at night. And that was putting it mildly and barring a whole lot of just as if not more crazy shit.
“Anyway,” Skye says, while wiping down tables “how would the two of you like to proceed?”
“Oh! I have a quick question before we start-“ Marinette replies. “Where exactly will we be making The Motherload? I’m assuming you’re not offering up the cafe’s equipment to us.”
Grinning, the barista pauses her cleaning to place both hands (one still holding a rag) on their hips. “That’s an excellent question, poppet!”
Tim raises an eyebrow and scoffs. “Poppet?”
Raising their hands up in a show of surrender Skye teases, “Hey, I ain’t the one who started using random British words, but I’ll sure as hell jump on the bandwagon.” Her gaze slides over to Marinette, who’s shaking her head.
“Answering your question though, you can make it wherever you please. As long as it’s not in here. Whether it be at one of your guys’ places, or a random cafe you’ve decided to rent out or comondeer, it can be wherever. The drink itself isn’t super complex, so I already know you guys own the required equipment”
Marinette nods before looking over to Tim. “So,” she starts, “how do you wanna do this?”
“Well, seeing as there are no negative consequences when asking for a hint, why don’t we get this week’s hint now? We can brainstorm after and just hang in the cafe the rest of today,” Tim suggests.
Marinette opens her mouth to respond, but before she gets the chance Skye starts waving their arms around frantically. “WOAH WOAH WOAH! No negative consequences?! Did I not mention the consequences?”
Tim narrows his eyes at the barista, and Marinette can clearly be heard in the background saying, “Oh for Gods’ sakes, tu petite merde .”
Skye’s eyes go wide, and she pales slightly. “I-“ Her lips purse. “I didn’t mention the penalty?”
“NO!” Tim and Marinette cry out in sync, looking exasperated.
“Guys I’m so sorry I swear I thought I’d told you there was a price for getting hints. It must’ve slipped my mind when I made the slides and when I was telling you guys.”
Tim sighs, but after running a hand down his face he says, “Well, what’s the penalty for a hint?”
Skye goes back to wiping tables as she tells them, “In exchange for receiving a hint, you have to spin The Wheel of Punishments. Which, as the name implies, is a wheel loaded with various punishments. The punishments range from challenges to scavenger hunts, tasks, and quests.”
“I’m almost scared to ask,” Marinette interrupts hesitantly, “but what do you mean by quests?”
Tim chimes in, adding, “If Skye’s the one making them, they’re gonna be ridiculous.”
Skye grins, mysteriously reassuring, “Oh, you’ll find out soon enough. So, you two still want a hint?”
Marinette and Tim lock eyes, and after Tim gives a shrug, Marinette answers, “Why not?”
Tossing the rag onto the next table they were about to clean, Skye starts skipping towards the front counter. “Perfect!” they exclaim. She hops over the counter and ducks behind the register. The sound of cabinets opening can be heard, before Skye stands up, this time holding a colorful wheel akin to those found on game shows.
“Come one, come all! Step right up and spin the wheel!” Skye makes a grand gesture, sweeping her arm towards Tim and Marinette as they walk over to her. “So, which of you two lovely fellows would like to spin The Wheel of Punishments?”
Looking over at Marinette, Tim asks, “May I?”
She smiles at him (those definitely aren’t butterflies he’s feeling in his stomach. nope nope nope. probably just his body reacting to the lack of caffeine) before offering, “Go right ahead.”
Taking a breath, Tim steps up to the wheel. He notices that it’s somewhat small. The diameter couldn’t have been more than the length of his phone. Despite that, it was divided into 16 different sections which alternated between the colors of the rainbow. Each section was labeled with one of four letters: C, S, T, or Q. Following each letter was a number.
“Each letter,” Skye starts to explain, “Represents one of the four categories I mentioned earlier. C is for challenges, S is for scavenger hunts, T is for tasks, and Q is for quests. The number represents the specific objective. I have a numbered list of different challenges, a numbered list of different scavenger hunts, etcetera etcetera. Go ahead and spin, then I’ll tell you the objective of whichever you land on.”
“Alright then,” Tim mutters under his breath. He tentatively reaches out towards the wheel before spinning it. They all watch, transfixed, as the wheel starts spining and then begins to slow. Finally, the dial lands on a red section labeled Q#3.
“Which one’s that?” Marinette asks eagerly.
Grabbing her phone from their jeans pocket, Skye replies, “Let me check!”
Not even a moment later, Skye’s lips split into a devilish smirk. She looks up at the two (now very concerned and slightly alarmed) participants of The Second Coffee Trials and pretends to innocently bat their eyes.
“Oh how wonderful!” they cheer, obviously amused.
“I’m actually so scared now,” Marinette whispers; to which Tim nods.
“Every hint comes with a price; you’ve chosen risk, you’ve rolled the dice; a quest which may lead to adventure or woe; to lands beyond, you must go; there is an action which you must do; while bringing me back irrefutable proof.”
“There were absolutely zero actual directions in that,” Tim points out.
“That’s because I’m not done, you impatient swine,” Skye huffs out. “May I get a drumroll please?”
Marinette obliges, lightly drumming her fingers against the counter.

Chapter 11 - The Curse
word count: ~1k words
Truth is, Blair really is nervous. It’s the first time since the ritual that she’s been away from Taemin for more than a few hours, and she’s scared of how her body might react.
She’s now sitting in the bus, almost back to her hometown, wiping the blood spilling from her nose.
When she reaches the bus stop and jumps out, she knows she has to walk for about 20 minutes, but with how hard she’s dragging her feet around, the 20-minutes’ walk turns into 40.
The only good thing about this is that she sees a familiar face she’s really missed, who runs up to her immediately.
“Blair!” Mira exclaims happily. “You’re back?!”
“My mom died.” She says and chuckles slightly. “I’m really happy to see you, but I’m sad that you’re still here.”
“Well, can’t really cross over until this whole family dies. Only the eldest son to go, and I’m free.” Mira replies and looks back to her house – the place where she died.
Now that Blair thinks about it, Mira and Taemin are quite similar in this aspect. Both wished ill on the family of the people who murdered them. Mira’s also been around for many, many years, and apparently, the grudge fuelled by hatred she placed on that family was so huge, no one was able to escape its grasp. She wished for all the members to be unhappy for the rest of their days, until eventually the whole family wipes out, and they were never able to find happiness, so most ended up either committing suicide, or unintentionally overdosing and killing themselves.
“I guess so…” Blair replies after a while.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“What do you mean?”
“Something feels… different. I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s like… you’re not fully here. You’ve changed.”
“I guess I have.” Blair smiles sympathetically, before feeling another rush of fatigue brushing over her. “Listen, it was great seeing you, but I have to go in.”
“Good to see you, kiddo. I’m glad you’re still out there somewhere, and I’ll be rooting for you, always.”
“I hope you’ll get to cross over soon.” Blair says, then makes her way towards the house.
Once she goes in, she’s shocked at how weird it feels to be back. She hasn’t been here since she was 18, but nothing’s changed: the wallpaper is still the same, the rugs are old, her mom is in the kitchen-
“Mom?!” Blair exclaims in shock. “What the fuck!”
“Blair! Oh, wow. No way! You came!” Her mother turns around as soon as she hears her voice.
“Of course I did, you died! Why are you still here?!”
“Thank God you’re here. Otherwise… I would’ve never been able to leave.”
“What the heck. Okay. Wow. I was not expecting our reunion to go like this. I actually expected no reunion! I thought you'd already crossed over!”
“I’ve had a lot of regrets when it came to us, so I just… couldn’t. Not unless I talked to you.”
Blair sighs. A part of her feels happy – the young girl who craved her mother’s love –, but another part of her – Blair, the adult – finds it hard not to resent her for putting her through hell and abandoning her as soon as she became of age.
However, she really wants to hear what could possibly keep her mother on Planet Earth still, so she sits down at the kitchen table and hears her out.
“First of all, I really want to apologise for… not believing you. It’s obviously true that you’ve been seeing ghosts now, and that you weren’t crazy…”
“Thanks for believing me.” Blair responds mockingly.
“Look… a part of me always knew you were telling the truth, but… I really didn’t want to accept it. I wanted you to be normal, not… ostracised by everyone else. I wanted you to break the curse.”
“The curse?”
“Listen, Blair… there’s something you don’t know. I hoped that by ignoring it, it’s gonna go away, but it obviously hasn’t…”
“Ok, Mom, stop beating around the bush and tell me.”
“Many, many years ago, your grandfather did something unforgivable. He… took someone else’s life. A young man’s…”
“What?!” Blair’s eyes grow wide. She certainly didn’t expect that. She doesn’t remember her grandfather well, as he died when she was still really young, but…
“He got away with it, but he paid the price so much more harshly… as you know, he had 4 other children. 4 other sons, to be exact.”
“Yes… but they died quite young, didn’t they?”
“Mhm. On his deathbed, my father… your grandfather confessed his crime, and told me something terrifying. The young man he killed… placed a curse on him. May all your offspring be cursed. May all the men that share your blood die painful deaths at a young age. May all the women that share your blood lead unhappy, unfulfilled lives, ostracised by everyone else.”
“That’s terrible…” Blair shakes her head, remembering Mira’s curse on the family next door. Maybe the man her grandfather killed is still out there, somewhere. Maybe she can meet him and help him cross over.
“I truly didn’t want to believe that bullshit, but seeing that all my brothers were dead, seeing that I can’t get along with anyone and I’m never feeling happy… and seeing you, ostracised by everybody because you could see ghosts… I couldn’t take it, Blair. I ended up taking it on you for no reason. I’m so sorry. I drove you, who were clueless and innocent, away…”
“Mom… What was the name of the man grandpa killed?”
“You will receive a newspaper from my solicitor. It has the man’s story… Perhaps it will help you, and you will break the curse. Blair, I think it’s time to go. I’m truly sorry, my baby. I love you.”
“Ok mom… yeah, you can… you can go now.” Blair smiles weakly as she watches her mother disappear.

Next Day, Monday
“Ask her out.”
Bradley side-eyed Amelia sitting in the passenger seat, driving towards her High School. She’s been hanging on his neck ever since she annoyed him into telling her about Nisha.
“Is she engaged? Married? In a relationship?” she asks, scrolling through her phone. “No. I don’t think so,” he says, trying not to think about the clear absence of a ring from her hand as he tried to focus on the road ahead. Truth be told, he too wanted to know what happened, and he was dying to meet her again.
They had so much to talk about, and years to catch up.
“Her Instagram says she isn't”
She shoved her phone in his face. It was opened on her profile:
NishiiiBagchi Professor at UC San Diego Getting better with age, In physics, that means you get cooler and smarter
He smiled looking at her profile picture, it was Ronnie. He must have been gone by now. That cat spent 4 years of its life hating Bradley to the core. Yet he curled up beside him when he slept over at Nisha’s house for the last time. Almost like it knew Bradey wouldn't return.
“How can you say she’s single?” “She has a cat on her profile pic, she’s single.” Amelia deadpanned.
He huffed out a breath and looked back at the road.
“Here’s what you’re going to do. You’re going to make an Instagram account. And send requests to everyone you know on the base-” “-Why would I ever-” "-You must do that or else she will learn that you made your account for her when it shows zero followers and no following. When you have at least 5 followers from when your friends follow you, then send her a request and ask her out.” “I will do no such thing.” “Well, then you’re kicking your fate in the ass after it literally led you to the love of your life.” “she’s not-” "You're not getting any younger, Bradshaw. Take the chance, don't be Pete. Plus, I really don't want to be your maid of honor when I'm in a wheelchair." "You sound like a grandma." "I will be one when you finally realize Nisha is it for you!" "Amelie!" “You don’t stammer when you talk to her? Does time stop when she smiles? smiles? And you never thought about what would happen if you were together. Never?”
He was rendered speechless by how goddamn accurate Amelia was. He stares at her, trying to seem calm, “You, miss, have watched way too many rom-coms and you’re trying to make my life one.” Bradley stops the jeep in front of the High School entrance.
Amelia glares back, “Brad-Brad, what I’m about to say is maybe the last time I’ll be saying these words to you so you better listen carefully.”
She grabs her bag and turns to him, “You’re an insanely attractive man. Men and women, young and old, long to be with you. And despite being an elite Aviator and somehow making a porn stache look cool, you are a softie who would sacrifice to lengths for someone you love. I bet if I were Nisha, I would have been pining for you despite your lack of abs in High School. Now stop being the frustratingly clueless bastard in every romance movie and fucking talk to that woman.”
She opens the door, jumps out, dabs, and disappears into the crowd of teenagers.
Bradley keeps staring at the opened door of his Bronco trying to process what the hell just happened. He closes the door in a trance, thinking about the MCR song that got famous recently.
Teenagers do scare the shit out of me.
He looks at the clock on his dashboard, realizing he was running late for the base. And still, here he was 10 minutes later, sitting in the parking lot of his base and making a profile.
There's a chance Amelia Benjamin shook him to his senses, and he'll learn if that's the case real soon.
—/—/—
"- so how about we pull the jet in reverse and call it a day.” Sinopa, the only person in the class with the balls to oppose Nisha was back at it again.
Nisha appreciated the questions from her students more than anything. It means they were studying the subject in depth and were attentive. She never shamed someone for asking questions, unlike her own teachers. No matter how basic or lame they are, she would answer them. Sinopa was one of the students who took her field seriously and never failed to impress her.
“It is possible, but the g-forces applied to the body of the pilot will be dangerously high. We’re talking about 1200 km/s. Almost the speed of a bullet train.” she addresses everyone, nodding to the young woman for her observation.
Case studies in physics were her favorite. They had a story, something you can easily apply in real life, and questions that toy with your brain. As frustrating as some could get, Nisha loved a challenge.
The bell rang, and the two-hour lecture was finally over.
"Your thesis submission deadline might be a month away, but I expect submissions by the next week. And please, as much as I love Star Wars, no Pop Culture references." There was an uproar of laughter, and her students started to shuffle through the seats, heading out to their next class.
“Dr. Bagchi, please tell me you finally caught up with the MCU. I have so much to discuss.” Sinopa walked towards the table. “I want to talk about everything wrong that happened there. The quantum realm-” “-Quantum Realm?” “Gosh, I’m sorry I don’t want to spoil anything but the theory they presented was insane, you have to watch it.”
"Of course, I will!" she grins at her and looks at her Star Wars t-shirt before walking out of the classroom.
Although she never mentioned it, she felt quite happy when young minds like Sinopa looked up to her, and talked to her about their interests and ideas. This made her realize all the sleepless nights and studying for ungodly hours paid off.
Her office was larger than her LA one, and there was still a lot of space to be filled in the future. She settles down on her chair and mournfully looks at the mountain of papers from the first-year students waiting on her desk. She can only delay it, but not get out of it.
As she was about to pick up the first one, her phone buzzed. Her attention was drawn to the newest notification that had just appeared.
BradshawBradley84 has requested to follow you
She raised her eyebrows at the screen as she read his bio.
BradshawBradley84 Flying is the best way to gain freedom Aviator | Proud Gryffindor
Then she noticed he had sent her a message too. She opened it, and could not stop laughing as she read his text
BradshawBradley84 Deeply saddened by the fact that you let go of your Ravenclaw heritage so easily when I clearly remember you saying, “I can and will be the finest fucking Ravenclaw this world has ever seen”
She replied
NishiiiBagchi Not a way it is to address a Jedi, Bradshaw
BradshawBradley84 And here I was thinking you were a stormtrooper
NishiiiBagchi I was undercover, dammit.
BradshawBradley84 I can bet on the fact you were swooning over Anakin Skywalker when the prequels came out.
NishiiiBagchi Shut. Up.
BradshawBradley84 Oh wait, I was right.
He sends Nisha a pic from her own profile, which was her sitting in her dorm room bed. The wall behind her was filled with posters, including one of Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman from Attack Of The Clones.
BradshawBradley84 Are you free tonight?
Nisha thought about it, a part of her desperate to hang out with him, and the other urging her to act reasonably. She was only recently hired at the university and had only been teaching for weeks. Although she thinks everyone is cool with her, taking a break will be frowned upon by someone.
NishiiiBagchi I got some papers to grade ☹
BradshawBradley84 Well, shit.
Oh, fuck it
NishiiiBagchi I’m heading to the beach on Wednesday. You in?
BradshawBradley84 Yeah, sure! I’ll bring snacks 😊
NishiiiBagchi Cool!
Her heart was filled with warmth. It had been a while since she felt it.
She’s got a date. With Bradley Bradshaw And she was totally cool with it.
Right?
---/---/---
“You’re a Gryffindor? I’m Hufflepuff!” Bob gleefully admitted to Bradley, unaware of the fact he was having a stroke reading the text from her, thinking about what to send next.
“Huh?” he asked Bob.
“I’m a Hufflepuff man!” he says, smiling at him
“Um, no offense Bob but I guess everyone guessed that.” Mickey's voice followed.
He laughed as Fanboy and Payback, Mickey and Reuben, joined him, the latter saying, “Really want to meet the person who convinced you to join social media dude, even Hangan couldn’t do it”
“That’s because he wasn’t being nice about it.” He scoffs.
"I have a really cool idea about your first post. Look!" Mickey didn't give him any time as he snatched his phone and took a candid selfie with all four of them. He then proceeded to post it on Bradley's profile with the caption.
A fun day with my fellow aviators. Missing you @ Tasha24 <3
He tagged Natasha, who had to return to her home for a family emergency. She was getting stationed in Arizona, and she swore she would only leave after meeting everyone. Hangman seemed to be chill about it, but that didn't stop the boys from teasing him once in a while.
“Anyways,” Reuben interrupted, “Hard Deck is opening this Sunday and we’re heading there to welcome Penny back. And you have to be there no matter what." “Sure.” He smiled as Reuben and Bob talked about the flight plans for the week.
"Where are you stationed next?” Mickey asked “I have zero idea. Cyclone seemed impressed by the flight plans we've been following so I really hope I get a break before another mission."
"I have a mission with Hangman and Payback. We have a few months before we start, middle of the Pacific." he grinned, but Bradley could clearly sense it was forced.
"What happened? is he bothering you?" he fisked Mickey away to a corner, already forming a speech in his head about what he should say to Hangman.
"No, it's just," he looked around and then said, "I need your advice on something."
"Okay," Bradley says, eager to help his friend.
"So, you know I'm dating this girl. It's only been a few months but I really think she is it for me."
"Yeah, you mentioned her once. Y/N, right?" he remembered a pool game with Payback, Bob, and Mickey after the uranium mission, where they talked about their partners and Mickey told them about Y/N, who was an art student and boy was he floored for her.
"Yeah, Y/N Sersin."
Oh.
Oh!
A memory flashed before his eyes, watching a picture on Jake's locker from his High School days. He was holding a little girl on his shoulders while dressed in full football gear. Forget me not big bro, good luck! - Y/N Scribbled under it in neat handwriting.
"Holy shit," Bradley said the only acceptable words that came into his brain at the moment. "Yeah." Mickey grimaced. "Jake will annihilate you. I'm not even kidding." "Don't you think I know that!" he whispered to Bradley. "Why would you voluntarily do something like this?" "I had no idea she was his sister!" He resisted the urge to shake Mickey out of it, "Well, now you do!" "I'm not breaking up with her." "Don't even think about it. Get Y/N and tell him together before he finds out, simple and clear. And please do it in public so someone stops him from committing manslaughter." Mickey looks hopeful. "That's it," he says. "Yeah," Bradley replies
He huffs out a frustrated breath, "There is no way I'm finding a loophole in this, am I?" "Nope." Bradley deadpanned.

Danny gets captured by his parents as Phantom. They put him in cuffs that stop all his powers, including transforming, they luckily let just enough seep through to keep him alive (or half-alive anyways) but they never believe him when he tries to explain, they think ghosts aren’t sentient, just mimicking human consciousness.
Dani comes to rescue him and fails, Danny begs her to leave and she doesn’t listen.
He gets vivisected (while conscious and struggling) multiply times, eventually the parents call the school, say that they’ve got a wonderful lesson for them.
-
Mr Lancer got a call from the Fentons -ugh- and answered it with a sigh “Hello?” he asked
“We have a lesson for you kiddos today!” Jack says happily, Mr Lancer sighed again but unfortunately ghosts are real problems and these dummies are the only ones who had studied them.
“Go ahead.” Mr Lancer said reluctantly, they both grinned and Maddie squealed excitedly.
The camera turns to reveal a cell, Phantom is absolutely wreaked and barely awake but still standing protectively in front of the girl version, Dani. I gasped when I saw the green-red blood dried in a drip down his chest.
“We’ll be attempting to kill it today!” Maddie says happily, Phantoms eyes go wide and fearful but he doesn’t move from over Dani
“The one acting as a female!” Jack adds, grinning as always
“What! No!” Phantom says, his voice is so far from the quips he says as a hero, so far from even him being angry, he sounds so scared. “T-take me instead, I won’t try to fight back, I won’t scream, you won’t need to do anything, just don’t touch Dani.” he begged, staying in front of the uncharacteristically silent Dani. Why are they doing this? A slow death seems better than this!
“You see class, this is an example of it mimicking human speech and mimicking our feelings and reactions!” Maddie explained happily, transparent green tears poured down Phantoms face, more than before anyways.
“I’ll explain everything! Anything you want! Please! Just don’t touch my sister.” Phantom begged
“Don’t worry, we’ll get it out of you later!” Maddie said cheerfully as she reached for Dani, Phantoms eyes got even more scared and he bit Maddie, honestly I couldn’t blame him but he wasn’t strong enough to break through the rubber. Maddie looked at him like he was a disappointing lab rat “If you’re so insistent, I’m sure we can make do. At least the other one doesn’t cause trouble.” Maddie muttered, Phantom turned around
“Dani, when you get out, call for Wulf, explain, get him to take you to Clockwork, Clockwork can help.” Phantom said hurridly
“I love you.” Dani spoke and for the first time I realised how young she was, she looked it. Phantom gave a smile which looked painful but sincere and ruffled her hair
“Love you too, tell the rest I love them as well.” Phantom got dragged off screen.
Without even thinking I summoned my Red Huntress gear onto my body and jumped out the window. I had some new options on ghosts.

MavDad: Father’s Day
A/N: Happy Father’s Day to Mav and Goose. As always, please leave any ideas for stories in the comments, I would love to bring them to life!

Also on Ao3!
-----
Mav was sitting outside the CO’s office, he had been waiting weeks for this moment. He hadn’t buzzed the tower in at least a month, he did most things by the book, and he generally tried to be less of a nuisance.
“Get in here Maverick,” came through the door.
“Yes, sir. Thank you for seeing me, sir,” he said as he hopped up and entered the room.
“You’ve been well behaved the last few weeks,” his CO said with a frown, “I’m almost scared to ask what I can do for you.”
“It’s Goose’s son sir, there is a Father’s day brunch at his school and I need to be there,” Mav replied, staring at the wall behind his CO to keep his composure. “Just give me 3 days leave and I’ll be back to misbehaving before you know it, sir,” he finished with a smirk.
“Well Maverick, you have been gone 6 months, I think we can spare you for 4 days,” his CO looked at him with contempt, “but if you come back here and buzz the tower, I will keep you as the most decorated Captain in the Navy.”
“Yes, sir. Thank you, sir,” Mav spoke quickly, before his CO could change his mind.
“Report to the flight deck tonight, 1600 hours for a ride back home. You are dismissed,” he said.
“Thank you, sir,” Maverick replied before rushing out of the office.
Running to the nearest phone he called Carole, “Hey its me, they’re sending me home tonight but I will need to report back on Monday.”
“Oh that is so great Mav, should I tell him?” she asked.
“No, no, don't tell him. I want it to be a surprise,” he said quickly, “I need to go and pack up, I will see you tomorrow.”
“See you then Mav, be safe,” he heard Carole call before the line went dead.
___
Maverick jumped off the C130 and spotted Carole standing off the tarmac. He ran towards her shouting, “Are we late? What time does it start?”
“Calm down Maverick, its only 9, it doesn’t start til 10,” she replied with a smile, “Do I even get a hug?”
“You’re right, of course!” Mav exclaimed, scooping her up into a tight hug and spinning her around.
“All right, all right!” Carole gasped out between laughs, “I missed you too Pete.”
“Okay, let's get going, I don't want to be late,” He said after putting her down.
Mav loaded his stuff into the car and they headed to Brad’s elementary school.
___
They got to the school with plenty of time to spare, the principal meeting them at the doors.
“Welcome back Mrs. Bradshaw. Captain Mitchell, we thought that you could surprise Bradley in the cafeteria,” Miss Martin said with a smile.
“That sounds great,” Mav replied, “where do you want me?”
Miss Martin led them to a door at the back of the cafeteria, “wait here until you hear me announce that I have a special guest,” she said, “then come in, I’ll make sure that Bradley isn’t too far from you.”
“I’ll be ready,” Mav replied, watching Carole prepare her camera.
“You really do just carry that thing around with you, don’t you,” he said, humor in his voice.
Carole rolled her eyes at him, “I need all the pictures I can get of my baby, he won't be this young forever.”
They could hear the kids and their fathers making their way into the cafeteria. Mav snuck a peek through the glass of the door to find Brad. He was a few tables away from the door, a frown fixed on his face, an empty seat beside him.
Mav's heart hurt for him. How many of these same brunches did Mav attend alone after his father disappeared? He couldn’t tell you a definite number, but it was too many.
As the principal called for attention, she thanked all the parents for coming out and their help setting up the cafeteria. Finally, she started to introduce him, “I have one last announcement before we begin!” she exclaimed, “we have a special visitor today, he has traveled all night to make it in time!”
At that, Mav threw the door open. The entire cafeteria turned to see who could be so important to get a special announcement.
Brad’s head shot up at the sound of the door hitting the wall. Mav gave him a brilliant smile, and opened his arms wide. Brad jumped up, not caring that his whole class was watching, and ran at Mav, throwing himself into the hug.
The cafeteria erupted in applause for them both. Carole was snapping pictures behind them with tears in her eyes.
Through all the commotion, all Mav could hear was Brad’s whispers, “You made it…I didn’t think you would be here…”
It made his knees weak, this was his boy, he might not be his father, but this was his boy.
“Of course I’m here buddy…did you think you could have a father’s day brunch and not invite your Uncle Mav?” Mav replied, tears in his eyes.
As the cafeteria settled down Mav let Bradley touch the floor again, which wasn’t a big feat considering how tall he was now. They made their way over to the table and sat down. Brad pretending that he didn’t just cry in front of the whole class, those fifth graders have a reputation to uphold. Mav could only smile at him.

As Mav was about to board his plane back to BFE Brad grabbed his arm. Mav turned around surprised, “what’s wrong bud?”
“You promise you’ll come back right?” he asked, hugging Mav tightly.
“I promise,” Mav said to him, “but even if I don’t, I’ll always be in here,” he pulled away from the hug, patting Brad’s chest over his heart, “just like your dad is,” he finished with a sad smile.
Brad grabbed him again tighter than before, Mav could feel warm tears on the collar of his fatigues.
“You’re my dad too,” Brad said quietly.
“I know buddy,” Mav said shakily, “I love you.”
“I love you too, dad,” Brad replied bravely.
Mav boarded the plane back to BFE with a smile on his face. This had been the best leave he had ever been on.
