Dear Advisor,

I tend to be a very reserved and shy person so making friends is super hard. Recently I’ve been wanting to socialize more , but I genuinely don’t know how. Is there any advice that you have that can make me look more approachable and not be scared to talk to people. I’m so stressed about being alone and not having any friends, but I just find it so hard to go up to people and make a conversation. I tried once but it became super awkward. I just really need good advice from someone on how to approach a person and continue a conversation.

Dear Awkward Anonymous,

It would be so easy to get into a whole deep let's-skeetshoot-therapy-on-the-internet session and try to help a total stranger unpack all of the GA-FUCKING-ZILLION ways in which social awkwardness shows up in a person's life. It seems easy, and it even seems meaningful and worthwhile, but to do so I would have to presume a bunch about your life, and make a bunch of assumptions about the ways in which my own experiences maybe/probably track with yours, and it would be a whole big wank-fest, and frankly ... it would be awkward. I'd be like you, standing there at the party, hoping that what I'm saying resonates or lands or even vaguely tracks with anything a stranger has ever known or experienced, presuming (probably rightly!) that it doesn't, and then flailing and blaming myself when I didn't emerge from the interaction with all the world's gold stars.

So here's what: stop talking to other people as a primary social occupation. Going up to people and just talking is fucking terrifying. The Bad Advisor says this as a Certified Extrovert™ who rarely shuts the fuck up.

Instead, find a thing to do with other people that involves some sort of task or goal or activity. Talk about the thing you're doing together, when you're doing it. If it feels okay, maybe introduce one or two of your own relatable-to-the-activity experiences in the process. See who picks up on it. Ask the people who pick up on it genuinely interested questions in response. This is what we awkward people call: engineering a conversation. It is the way, I am told, humans make connections with other humans. I have seen it work in my own life.

Depending on where you live and your ability level and skill set, I bet you have some options! You could seek out an open board game night, pub quiz session, knitting/quilting circle, or mutual aid meetup that's looking for volunteers. Especially look for social activities with strangers that involve a dedicated, pre-prescribed activity (such as a hiking or mall-walking group, stuffing envelopes for a political candidate or cause you care about, planting trees at your local park, or tasting tea/wine/beer/etc.). (Somebody is going to say join a ballroom dancing club or suchlike; I am personally terrified of this, but if you have a higher tolerance for strangers touching you and fewer than two left feet: it's literally an option. Line-dancing, on the other hand ... absofuckinglutely.)

Even if what's available in your area isn't your precise and specific interest, it might be worthwhile to check out something you are decidedly meh about -- you might not be the only meh person there. You can bond over shit that's boring or shitty with other people who find it boring or shitty! Some of my best friends, arguably my very best friends, came out of experiences we mutually loathed or found at least moderately and mutually miserable.

Consider especially finding an activity where you yourself are the manager of operations and/or have a designated task to take care of that is unique to your position! This doesn't have to be complicated or skill-dependent; can you become a voter registrar in your area? Well, bam! You've got paperwork people have to fill out and a good reason to jibber-jabber with folks who have to ask you the questions. Other ideas: join your local neighborhood association board, become a notary public, or see if your local pet rescue is looking for intake line volunteers. Do you have a trustworthy, especially outgoing friend who might agree to play "social glue" for you a couple of times at their activity-centric events? Make it explicit! Ask them if they'll play friendly wing-person for you at their D&D game, fantasy sports league, or some such.

Alternately: Do you have a unique and fun and shareable skillset you can share with others? Are you pretty good at drawing, programming? Simply a font of endless Merlin or NFL or Real Housewives knowledge? You might start a local Discord or other online social group to discuss and share your interests, then move it to the real world in a few weeks once folks get comfortable. You get the idea.

Most of all: Look for stuff that has more-than-just-talking opportunities available outside the designated group jam for you to maintain connections. Perhaps a group chat, a Discord, a Slack, what-have-you, where you can take more time to consider and draft your responses and posts? Connections with humans get made a thousand ways, and talking raw-dog with strangers is but one.

It takes a true social unicorn to be simply good at talking and only talking to other people. There are some of these one-horned wonders out there, to be sure — but let me assure you that the vast majority of folks want to be accepted and seen just as much as you do, and they're staring at the ceiling at night thinking just as much (more, probably) about all the weird, wonky shit they themselves threw at you than they are anything you ever said to them.

ATLA Live Action Series Review:

The Good

Aesthetically this show felt right. Sure sometimes the outfits didn't quite feel lived in, but I always felt like I was watching a fantasy world with decent effects and interesting design. Also, I really enjoyed the sets!

Bending: Yes some of the fights feel very quick, but the bending looks cool. It is certainly better than 10 benders lifting one big rock. I can honestly say the opening bending fight scene gave me so much hope for this show.

Kyoshi Warriors: I loved seeing them in live action, and I thought Suki's performance was great!

Omashu: I think the mashup of the mechanist made sense since that is an important character overall and I would hate to see him cut. However, both Jet & the secret tunnels felt sloppily thrown in.

Northern Water Tribe: I really loved the way it looked, and appreciated the two episodes we spent here. I think Yue gained more agency in this interpretation, and why shouldn't the moon spirit be a waterbender. Also, episode seven felt the most in tune with the original show's spirit.

Zuko: I think he was one of the most fleshed-out and best parts of the show! Dallas Liu really captured Zuko's spirit, and the scene between him and Aang in episode 6 was wonderful!

Soundtrack: Hearing the original soundtrack bits is always great, and when I first heard the ending music I was so excited.

Is the show perfect, no - but I wouldn't mind a season 2.

The Bad

Pacing: Turning 20 episodes into 8 was bound to lead to some cuts...but oftentimes times things felt too quick or disjointed. I think there were editing problems contributing to this for sure, but sometimes things skipped around too much without a clear purpose as to why. Also, why bring in plots from later seasons when you barely have enough time already?

Writing: This show definitely suffered from exposition dumping, though it did get better as time went on. I think the biggest example of this is actually opening in the past rather than the present. We do not get to learn along with Aang that the world has changed, instead, we get to learn that 100 years have passed....which doesn't hold the same tension or worldbuilding.

Clunky Dialogue: Along with exposition, clunky dialogue is another example of bad writing. I think sometimes I felt like the acting was kind of meh in the beginning, but then over time I began to realize it had far more to do with the lines characters were trying to deliver. The actors themselves are not bad, just cursed with awkward writing and lines that feel out of touch with the setting they're in.

Main Trio: I don't entirely know that I believe Katara, Sokka, and Aang are friends as opposed to 3 people stuck together to save the world. Aang feels a little too somber for a young kid running away from his responsibilities, Sokka is protective, but not exactly the heart of the team, and Katara is sort of just there until the last two episodes. Where is her struggle, her desire to learn so strong she steals from pirates? Also, while Gordon Cormier did a great job, Aang does zero waterbending on his own, is overly serious, and tells Katara not to fight. Where is his desperation to protect his friends? It feels like they all lost emotional depth.

Tension: Bringing Ozai, Azula, and Zhao out in the beginning immediately causes us to lose the realization there is an even bigger bad. Part of why Ozai is so terrifying is he is a primarily silent villain until the third season when we finally see the face of the "big bad evil guy" behind it all. Yes, they add to Zuko's backstory, but again, they are revealing the villains too early. Azula is the antagonist of season 2 and one of my favorite characters, so I hope they do more with her in the future. Finally, Zhao is supposed to be an example of the uncontrollable nature of fire unrestrained, instead, he comes off as vaguely threatening with the supposed true power being Azula.

Characterization: While all characters are bound to lose something in a shorter show, it still felt like certain characters were more mutilated than others. I am sure there are 100 different opinions on who, but I think the biggest victim was Katara.

Katara: Katara manages to go from a complete novice to a bending master in what feels like a matter of days. The journey feels short, and that makes the results feel largely unearned. Katara is one of the strongest personalities in the show, determined, kind, and fiery. In many ways, she is the unpredictability of water - equally dangerous as it is necessary to live. She is the child of a war who lost her mother, forced to grow up too soon, and even raised her older brother. Yes, Katara often gets stereotyped as the mom friend, but overall she feels underutilized in this show. We really don't see enough of her journey until the very end.

Iroh: Iroh was always comedic but most importantly wise. Even when Zuko is trying to give himself advice, he mimics Iroh. Instead, he seems to be used more as comedic relief without the underlying experience. He just doesn't feel right. Also, he kills Zhao instead of Zhao getting himself killed - which is less about Iroh and more about the writing than anything.

Ozai is weirdly a little too nice. Yes, he burned Zuko and pits his kids against each other, but he feels toned down in a show claiming to be more mature than the original cartoon.

Azula is perhaps more realistically worried about losing her status as the golden child, but she is also missing the cruelty she and her father share. I understand worrying about making your character cartoonishly evil, but the Fire Nation is currently a deeply nationalistic empire trying to control the world. Where is the deep-seated belief that they are better than other people, not just trying to bring balance to the world? There is a line between creating complexity and toning down the very real evil inherent in this plan.

Roku: I can only say what the fuck was that. He was barely there, and not the serious master to Aang's youthful exuberance.

The Ugly

Show, Don't Tell: The show's single biggest issue seems to be speeding through story parts by simply stating things. Instead of allowing the audience to discover, trusting that we are smart enough to understand, let's just blatantly say things like Zuko is the only reason the 41st division is alive to their faces. Even though in the context of the story Ozai literally already said that.... it's the division, the division for Zuko, Zuko's division.

Thematic Misunderstandings: I think this show makes several minor changes with major implications, such as airbenders actively fighting the firebenders, when airbenders are known for their pacifist nature and the lie of an Airbender fighting force is actively propaganda. Similarly, Aang very quickly accepts his role as the avatar and doesn't even run away in the beginning. Without this conflict between his desire to be a carefree child and the fact that the world needs him - the show loses a key aspect of Aang's character. Also, the obsession with downplaying the avatar state as something dangerous feels like a disservice to the tradition, connection, and strength of the avatar, which can be permanently destroyed as the trade-off for that kind of power. It's dangerous for the balance of the entire world, not just because it's powerful!

The Agni Kai: Zuko's fight against his father is one of the defining moments of Ozai's cruelty, not just because he is willing to fight his child, but because Zuko tried to do everything right. Zuko shows deference to his father, apologizes, and most importantly refuses to fight! The determination not to upset his father and still be grievously injured and banished is a hugely important theme for the fire nation and Zuko's life as a whole. He tries to do everything he is supposed to and only regains his father's acceptance after he "kills" Aang. Zuko's struggle between moral vs. social right and wrong in contrast to his family is hugely important to his character.

TLDR: ATLA was a fantastical animated television show that was never afraid to show character development and flaws. When you turn 20 episodes into 8, you are bound to lose something. You hollowed out the middle, leaving the shell of important moments and events without ever wondering if all the times in between formed the true spirit of the show.

Rating: 6.5/10 It's perfectly fine and worth a watch. Not a disaster, but certainly falls flat of the original.

So MAYBE, just MAYBE, I am an incureable RoFan Isekai nerd. Shut up about it, maybe. What're you a cop? Mind your business. BUT! And hear me out...

W...What would actually? HAPPEN if Danny went into a Visual Novel? Some Otome game? You know, aside from being vague flustered by and then DEEPLY ALARMED by these walking Red Flag Fruitloops that girls are supposed to find "dreamy" or something?

Like we know how MMOs work for him. And probably OTHER open world games? But a visual novel? Would it be like the Christmas Episode? Would he hear narration? Be stuck in static "scenes"? Or would it be like a cut together "only the interesting parts" movie that he's somehow IN?

Like?? At SOME point his curiosity is gonna get the best of him. He's gonna want to know what different video games are LIKE on the inside? What's Pong like? Tetris? Mario? One of those Mama's cooking games? Etc etc.

He probably hits up a game sale. Buys a box or two. Figures he can always resell um or just give them away for free. Might even use them for parts. Who knows. And?

It's kinda cool!

It's even SCIENCE! See? Tucker's in charge of notes. Sam's in charge of hilarious commentary and pizza. Jazz is keeping them from drinking and doing ghost shit (terrible combination, we never speak of What Happened(tm) again). And the Dr's. Fenton got distracted by making fudge and debating what games should be counted towards which categories.

They've made an afternoon of it.

And NOW? They've reached the bottom of box one. It was "Survive The Villainess! My Rose for You!" Or... judging by Sam's climbing eyebrows and growing scowl? A DEEPLY unpleasant porn game about school girls.

You could not PAY him enough.

Yeah, he DOES realistically kinda want to know what happens.. if.. like? You know... sexy games... like would he? Or does he just WATCH or...? *awkward cough* But! That's NOT for Family Science Night! And DEFINITELY not THAT game, THANKS.

He'll find himself an ETHICALLY SOURCED smutty game full of consensual boning. For PRIVATE TIME. Those test results are gonna show up like MAGIC and we WILL NOT be talking about them! Got it? Good.

Now what the fuck is he look at here?

Jazz is surprisingly knowledgeable. They are not allowed to ask. They respect it. The main character "wakes up" inside the body of a "villainess" and must survive. Turn her terrible reputation around. Avoid "death flags". Preferably romance one of the hot guys?

Uuuuuuuh... you realize Danny's in a committed relationship, right?

Sam and Turker allow it. But they reserve the right to blast his taste in Fantasy Guy's. Chose carefully, for their roasting shall be BRUTAL. Luuuuuv yoooou~♡

He wants a divorce. They're not even MARRIED and he wants a divorce. You see how they mock him, Jazz? The cruelty he suffers? He's taking the Blobs and moving to Frightknight's. They always warned him about you living folks and your fast ways, but he didn't listen! *continued dramatics* *is smacked with a pillow*

But actually going IN? The weirdly, vaguely European over the top EVERYTHING? Giant jewels and ridiculous, fancy dresses? The walking red flag Romantic Archtype Leads? He wants to PUNCH half these guys! This is ABUSE! Are people OKAY!?

Like? I feel like he'd stay way, WAY longer then he needed too? Just out of morbid curiosity? W-where is this plot GOING? It's so dramatic. Why is my dress MORE dramatic now? Why is everything so... Sparkly.

It would be? AMAZING and baffling and I would pay real money to hear their live commentary. "Why not simply judo flip the crown prince off the balcony, then take over the country, sweetie?" "Solid plan, honey! He deserves it!" Beautiful. Flawless. Sage advice really. Too bad Danny can barely walk in his five million bows dress.

It's the BEST Au and I might be a genius. Or deeply sleep deprived. Meh. We'll 50/50 it, six of one, half a dozen of another.

A/N: So, I ended up having to change some things from your request to make it something that I'm able to write. Turns out cheating is an unforgivable hardline for me, which is good to know about myself. So I ended up completely dumping that plot idea for something else. I hope you don't mind.

You don’t look up when the chair across from you slides away from the table. You already have a good idea of who’s going to be sitting there.

“Are you here to yell at me too, Commander?” You ask as you pour some more sugar into your caf, take a sip, grimace, and then add even more sugar. It already tastes like caf flavored sugar, but you need the extra energy. Even if it’s cheap energy.

“Buy me a Caf,” Commander Wolffe says, his dark eyes serious as he looks at you, “And something to eat. We need to talk.”

You lift your gaze and scowl at him, but you pull out your credit chit and set it in his hand, “Order what you like, I suppose.”

Wolffe nods and heads to the counter, only to return several minutes later with a large caf and a breakfast sandwich. He hands you your credit chit back as he takes a seat.

You shift and rest your chin on the palm of your hands, “Alright. Lay it on me.”

Wolffe arches a brow, “You expecting something from me?”

“Thorn, Thire, and Stone have already come to yell at me, and they’re not Fox’s twin. You are. So,” you gesture vaguely, “Go ahead. Start yelling.”

“I’m not going to yell at you, sen’ika.” Wolffe says quietly.

“Well, that’s a first.” You mutter.

“I don’t kick people when they’re down.” He continues, his sharp eyes lingering on the dark circles under your eyes, and the sheer amount of sugar you’re adding to your caf. “That’s going to taste awful.”

“Meh.”

“Sen’ika,” He says slowly, quietly, “You’re clearly miserable-”

“I’m fine.” You interrupt.

“You’re not.” There’s a firmness in his voice that stops you from arguing back. “When was the last time you went home?”

“Last night.”

“And slept more than an hour or two?” He asks with a pointed look.

You look away from him, “It’s…not important.”

“Sen’ika,” His voice is so gentle, “Why did you break up with Fox?”

Your hands fold into fists, “Maybe I was cheating on him. Maybe I wasn’t happy.”

“You might be able to pull the shit with other people,” Wolffe says quietly, “But I saw how happy you and Fox were together. And I know you would never cheat on him. So try again.”

You press your lips into a thin line. “I…I refuse to be another burden on him.” You admit quietly.

“Elaborate.”

“You don’t see him after work, Wolffe. He’s so tired. All of the time and some of the bruises and scars…” You trail off, “He was happy with me, yes, but having to hide me from everyone? For my own protection? It was wearing him down. And I can’t, won’t, do that to him.”

“He’s miserable.”

“I know.”

“You’re miserable.”

“I know.”

Wolffe is quiet for a moment, “Is there nothing I can say to make you change your mind?”

“I will not let him kill himself for me.” You say quietly, “And if that means that I’m on the shitlist for every single member of the guard…then so be it.”

Wolffe doesn’t say anything for a long time, and then he sighs, “I’ll talk to the guard. Tell them to lay off.” He stands and drops a light kiss to the top of your head, “Fox loves you,” He says quietly, “He’s never going to stop loving you. You should at least give him a choice.”

“He’d pick-”

“You. Always you. And we both know it.” He pulls away, “Just think about it, alright? Thanks for the food.” And then Wolffe is gone.

You cast your gaze back to your caf, sigh, and add some more sugar.

Even if you want to talk to Fox, it’ll never happen. Thorn made that plenty clear the other day. And then Thire made it clear later when he came to yell at you on your way home.

You sigh at your caf, and then you pick it up and down half of it, before you make a face.

Gross.

About a week later, you’re at home, trying to clean up the mess that your house has turned into since you haven’t had energy, or frankly, the will to keep up with it.

According to everything you’ve ever read in your life, time is supposed to heal all wounds, but you’re starting to wonder if that was just something that people said to give themselves hope.

Because you aren’t healing.

In fact, you feel worse than ever.

Bad enough that you’re starting to wonder if you’re actually sick, because a broken heart (a self-inflicted broken heart even) shouldn’t hurt this much, right?

You’re so involved in your cleaning that you don’t hear the knock on the door at first. It’s not until the doorbell rings, startling you bad enough that your vacuum falls from your hands, that you realize you have company.

You look at the mess that is your home and sigh. Maybe they won’t want to come inside?

Carefully, because you had the genius idea of dumping everything you own in the middle of the living room so you can organize it properly, you step over the piles of stuff to get to the door.

You press the door control to open the door, “Yes? Can I hel-” You stop mid-sentence when you see who’s standing there. “...Fox. Um…I mean, Commander.”

He looks…pissed.

“Let me in.” He bites out.

“We’re not dating anymore, Commander. You can’t order your way into my home.” You offer as you avert your gaze from his face. More than just angry, he looks tired. About as tired as you feel, really.

You hear him exhale sharply, “You’re wearing my shirt, cyare.” Even his voice is tight with anger, “Let me in.”

You glance down at the shirt, his shirt, that you are wearing, and you silently move to the side. “...sorry about the mess.”

“What mes-” He stops as soon as he steps into your apartment, and his jaw drops, “Holy kriff, did a bomb go off in your living room?”

You fold your arms, “I’m deep cleaning.”

“By making a bigger mess?”

“I have a system.”

“Is it working?”

You scowl at him, “I’ll let you know.”

He glances at you, and his lips twitch up into a small smile, before he looks away, as if suddenly remembering that he’s supposed to be angry at you. You avert your eyes as well, it’s easy, far too easy, to fall back into easy bantering with Fox.

You broke up with him.

You told him that you weren’t happy anymore.

You have no right to his time or his smiles.

“I had a chat with Wolffe.”

Oh.

“He told me something interesting.”

Kriff. You should have sworn Wolffe to secrecy.

“You broke up with me because you wanted to protect me?” There’s a strange mix of emotions in his voice. Anger, yes. There’s a lot of anger. But there’s also hurt, and something you recognize as affection.

“Wolffe is a kriffing snitch,” You mutter.

“Yeah, well. Maybe you shouldn’t have tried to confide in my twin,” Fox points out, “And then he wouldn’t have snitched on you.”

You purse your lips, “See if I ever buy him breakfast again.”

“He came to stop the Guard from harassing you,” Fox says, “I didn’t know that they were harassing you.”

“It’s…fine. I deserved it.”

“You didn’t.”

You sigh and turn your gaze to him, “Why are you here, Fox?”

“Because I love you.”

“That’s-”

He presses a finger against your lips, “Stop and listen.” Fox waits a moment, and as soon as he realizes that you’re going to do as he asks, he adjusts his hand so that his thumb is brushing against your lips. “I love you and I’m not going to give up on us simply because you think you’re a burden.”

“I am a burden. I saw how exhausted you were-”

“I’m more exhausted now.” Fox counters sharply. “Because I’m still trying to keep you safe, only now I have to do it in secret!”

“I never asked-” You start.

“You never had to. It’s what you do when you love something.”

“Fox-”

“I know you think that you’re a burden to me. And I know I’m so tired all of the time, and I know you worry about me all of the time.” Fox says, “But I love you. And you don’t get to decide what’s best for me. Only I get to choose that, and you’re what’s best for me.”

“Fox-,” You repeat his name, feeling tears pricking your eyes.

“I’m happier when I’m with you. You give me a reason to want to wake up in the morning.”

“I hurt you.”

“And I forgive you.”

“Just like that? You were so angry-”

“Of course I was! You broke up with me after deciding what was best for me! I’m pissed about it!” Fox bites out, “But I still love you and I’m willing to accept the fact that you did this because you were worried about me.”

“...I’m sorry.”

“I forgive you.” Fox repeats, he searches your face, and apparently finds what he’s looking for there, “Cyare, do you still love me?”

“...of course I do.”

“Be my girlfriend again?” Fox asks, “Please. We can start over if you really think we have to. I just…let me be a part of your life. I need you in my life.”

You sigh, softly. How could you say no to that? To him?

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Okay. I’ll be your girlfriend again.”

“Oh thank kriff,” Fox blurts as he presses his forehead against yours and closes his eyes, “Can we take a kriffing nap, I feel like I haven’t slept in weeks.”

You glance at the pile of stuff on the floor of the living room, and then turn your guilty gaze on Fox, “I think my comforter is in the mess.”

Fox glances at the pile of stuff, and then shakes his head, “No matter.” He carefully scoops you into his arms and steps over the stuff, before he heads into the bedroom and drops you on the bed, before he curls up against you, “Sleep first, everything else later.”

You tuck your head against his chest, and he folds himself around you. And you’re both asleep in a matter of moments.

7. I need fic finder help 😭 I cannot for the life of me find this one fic or remember the name, but I remember it very clearly.

So the premise was that the Lan soloed the SSC after the Wen attacked Cloud Recesses, and LWJ was sect leader (and chief cultivator??) after. He demanded a person be given to him (as compensation?? To show the sects alliance to him?? I forgot the exact reason) and WWX saw it coming a mile away that it would be him chosen to be handed over. Everyone was terrified of LWJ and was certain WWX would be miserable, but LWJ knew it would be WWX they sent and because Wen Qing vouched for him LWJ treated WWX like he deserved instead of how the sects thought he'd be, and got the shock of their life when they ended up married.

The last chapter I read (and the last update I saw, it was a (nearly finished?) wip last I read) Wen Qing sent a notice that LXC, who'd been in a coma for the entire fic up to that point, was awake.

If anyone can find this fic, I'd be eternally greatful 😭

So what I remember about it is that it's set in cql verse and wei wuxian was taken to the nightless city. He was planning on learning about wrh's demonic cultivation and so he kind of tries to make wen rouhan favor him while secretly learning demonic cultivation. Wrh fell for it and he kinda made wwx his consort and lwj thought wwx really betrayed them. please help me find it T~T

I can remember but I can't find... But I remember that I think WWX still had a golden core. He made Chenqing to let WRH think he was only playing music to help him concentrate on creating the Yin Tiger Seal but actually WWX was using it to use demonic cultivation to create weaknesses in the Seal that he could exploit later (and also to try to protect his golden core grin the resentment). Chenqing becomes semi-sentient and wants to help and protect him. In the end he shatters the Seal while shielding everyone else from the backlash and almost dies in the process, because he drops Chenqing and so she can't protect him.

ginny and seamus: seamus hated ginny for years. he did NOT want to believe that man-stealing harlot had good craic. ginny, on the other hand, was vaguely aware there was an irish guy around sometimes. then they fought in the DA together under the carrows and seamus had to begrudgingly accept she is actually exceptionally good vibes and ginny had to learn his name. and then they became good mates and ginny ships deamus like it’s her job and they have a lovely rewarding funny friendship which is only partly based on their shared acute mummy issues

harry and tonks: the fact that harry sort of thinks tonks is fine but low key annoying is an extreme source of amusement for me. other characters like tonks a lot but harry’s like - meh! she literally has his dream job and he’s unimpressed. when she’s introduced in canon his grouchy narration is like, can you stop fucking knocking things over? and then when she does up lovelorn over lupin in HBP he’s actively pissed off that she’s not very helpful lmao. gossiping about her to hermione like, ew is tonks in love with her cousin? huge ick if so. i know sirius was fit but come on. also when tonks shows off her wedding ring and harry yelps ‘you got MARRIED?!’ like ok judgy judgerson! you know when he had to step in to fix tonks and lupin’s marriage that the boy was tired

ron and sirius: ok i think about this one too much. but one of my favourite things about ron and sirius is that while ron really respects sirius, he doesn’t think the sun shines out of his arse like harry does, and worries about sirius as someone self destructive that harry reveres in a slightly troubling way. at the end of the day, ron more closely aligns with hermione’s view of sirius than harry’s, and that’s visible in their dynamic: friendly, but restrained. i think sirius thinks highly of ron and is kind to him, but he’s singularly focussed on harry, and not hugely interested in building a relationship with harry’s mates (and, obviously, he clashes more openly with hermione, and ron rides hard for his lady at all times). i think sirius sees ron and harry’s dynamic as something very different to his and james’, because ron doesn’t enable harry and the two of them aren’t troublemakers in cahoots, and that makes him feel a bit blah (because he senses, a bit guiltily, that harry and ron are more mature than he was at their age, and that ron looks after harry in a way that reminds sirius of the guardians that have been missing in his childhood)

hermione and neville: neville's first crush one hundo. hermione had to let him down easy i am convinced of it. neville makes a joke about it at romione’s wedding and sends ron spiralling when he realises that all of the occupants of his dorm bar seamus at some point either wanted to bang his sister or his wife

quest by osmosis?? I need to know more! I AM STUPID DON'T MIND ME- rereading your ask I got that you meant that you did not play the quest yet.

But yeah for me the nonsensical Cazador stuff is divided in two: stuff that makes no sense and stuff that just seems a bit rough around the edges.

The stuff that makes no sense is Leon and his daughter. I explained all the weird stuff here, but basically:

Leon's daughter Victoria is dead and you can find her body. From notes and stuff you find out that Leon gave her the dictionary, and that Dalyria wanted to do something to her so Leon cursed Victoria's blood. Also Victoria lived at the mansion with Leon.

But if you talk to Victoria's body she will... confirm she is Victoria, but also reveal that she is an orphan and Dalyria took her from outside to the house so she could have food and warmth?? And that Dalyria was the one with the dictionary.

The stuff that just looks a bit "meh" and unfinished is:

Cazador just waiting in there for Astarion and yet not making the way down to him easier. Like... how long is he gonna wait?

The full ritual seems a bit vague, what does it mean spawns connected in blood? Cazador was the one who turned Astarion's victims, so are they all connected by him? Or do they need to be connected to the seven spawns? And how?

What about the chamberlain? Cazador wanted to use him as a replacement, does this mean that anyone could have been used?

Yousen's voice lines are not there and he silently speak Aurelia's if you talk with him (if you kill Cazador without Astarion)

If you interrupt the ritual mid way, Astarion will attack you and you can kill him... and your companions react as if Astarion chose not to do the ritual

THE KIDNAPPING. Ridiculously unfinished. Astarion gets kidnapped and no one even reacts to it once he is saved

The fact that Cazador's quest was clearly meant for the upper city

Why is it that it *urks* me S so easily plays the narrative with these porn loving young girls?! All he works for and accomplishes, he disrespects himself allowing his reputation to be linked to those kind of very young women. How can it be okay for him to let people believe he is a *man whore* (as the group of so called haters say)? A video snippet of what is probably a more extended FaceTime conversation between S and Amanda Tutschek ( https://paintedpeachla.com/), a topless artist and painting tutor (100 USD/hour/class) from Vancouver, BC (but currently active in Venice Beach, Ca.) surfaced on Marple's account, supposedly dropped in her DMs by a good Samaritan. It is a nine second snippet ("... yeah...I was gonna put this one up here... but so funny... I was literally doing this yesterday and I was thinking about you...") with the comment: "Pimping out @samheughan's walls in Ireland (IE flag emoji)". It stayed on Tutschek's Instagram account for about four hours and then was promptly erased.

You start by telling me "S is playing the narrative with" the #silly calendar girls crowd. Is he, in this instance and if so, how can you (or anybody) be so sure?

Two scenarios are at play here:

First scenario: S/his people leaked this on purpose. Therefore, S is a troll.

Second scenario: Tutschek posted it as an Instastory on purpose. Therefore, S is a victim.

If S is trolling the fandom and I believe he is (only not now and not like this), why would he leak this on purpose? To emphatically let us know they're 'obviously not together'? To stir the pot between Queen *urv and Marple? To consolidate his man whore image, just when he was taking part in a critically important event in New York? I can understand the Lord of the Rings rigmarole (grinned for days), but assuming he is behind this strange snippet would be stretching the fabric of facts a bit too much, to my taste.

Also, despite *urv's delirious opinion ("he had a bedroom voice"), I think he just sounded tired and vaguely friendly: yes, I do think it's his voice. Not earlier than Friday evening, I received a video call on Fb from M, a (Taurus, hehe) former high school mate and one of my best friends. She always makes a point of telling me stuff like "I was buying grapes at the farmer's market and thought about you, how you absolutely hate them, so I called"/"I am at the Opera with Professor So-and-So, I told him about my brilliant friend in Athens, wanna say hi ?" That doesn't mean M wants me, the woman is happily married with two teenage boys. But she is a kind soul, with a superb understanding about what a friend really means (including being candidly obnoxious and immediately forgiven for it).

If Tutschek posted it out of her own accord on Insta, the reason would be simple: coat-tailing for clicks, shits and giggles. The insistent Ireland reference would point to that: I mean, the woman scrolled all the way down to the flag emojis to make sure we got the point (and in the process, more innuendo, mayhap). That would also explain why she promptly took it down: either because she realized somehow she pushed things a smidge too far or because she was strongly encouraged to cut the crap.

Seriously, whatever. This is just another episode of low-cost fuckery, irrespective of the two possibilities I just discussed. Her art is not as memorable as the bosom she generously shares with the world. It is borderline depressing and nothing to write home about, if you ask me. And the fact that the fandom quickly placed her in the same social circle with Quarantein Gia and Paparazzi Clarke, well... another major eyeroll, just here. The expected effect was exactly the one you described: to quietly gnaw at people's respect of S and also to chip a bit more of the fairytale.

This will happen only if you let them. These people, whoever they are, cannot challenge your reason, because there is nothing interesting or even logical about idiotic tidbits like this one. But they can and they are challenging and playing with your emotions, in order to instill doubt, insecurity, fear or disgust. I will not discuss Marple's editorial policy here (like her legally disingenuous use of someone else's material), simply because I do not want to give that derailed jukebox further space on my page. It is my sensible choice not to let these people in my world more than they deserve to be (very little). Maybe you should try it too, Anon. It could work for you as it did for me, once I came to terms with it.

I am not even sorry about the length of this answer. Haters gonna hate. I could not care less. Thanks for dropping by.

262 - Robert born, around the middle/later part of the year probably. Brandon born, a little earlier the same year

263 - Ned is born

264 - Stannis is born, earlier in the year. Rickard visits KL but I wanna say doesn't bring the babes? But possibly that's when the fostering is decided if he had occasion to meet Steffon also

266 - Lyanna is born, late in the year, I really want her to be 15 at Harrenhal lmaooo

268 - Benjen is born (canonically have a similar age difference to Arya and Bran which I believe is 18 months) . Robert and Stannis visit court with their father, which would have made perrrrrfect sense as a stop on the way to the Eyrie where Robert was left with Jon at KL and Stannis went home with dad, but nooo. Couldn't have it.

271/272 - Ned and probably also Robert begin their fostering at the Eyrie. Meh. It's late fall or, if 272, the beginning of a "terrible cruel" winter, btw, great time to do this journey to the mountains. Great job making safe choices for these children, Rickard, Steffon and GRRM. Anyhow GRRM stated both boys were able to visit home during this time and divided their time between home and the Eyrie freely after turning 16. During this time, they also engaged in an orange fight in the great hall of the Eyrie

277 - Renly is born

278 - Cassana and Steffon leave early in the year to find a bride for Rhaegar. Robert turns 16 and goes home. Probably about the end of the year, Cassana and Steffon die in a shipwreck in the waters of Storm's End on their return.

279 - Rhaegar and Elia betrothed. Robert abandons lordship and young brothers to go straight back to the Eyrie and conceives Mya (he must be 16/early 17 as according to Ned he was younger than Mya is in AGOT, love these riddles). Note that I can't imagine Robert right now gleefully embarking on a ship, at least not from Storm's End, and KL-Vale is like two months' journey by land according to Tyrion's movements. He really peaced out of there fast. Possibly Ned is absent/has also gone briefly home for his majority? The winter also begins here around mid-year

280 - Wedding of Rhaegar and Elia which may or may not be attended by the Vale gang. Mya is born. By this time both boys are back in the Eyrie as Ned held Mya as a babe. Princess Rhaenys is born in the last quarter of the year also.

(some point between 280-281) : Ned visits Winterfell where Robert and Lyanna's betrothal is announced and they have the conversation about Mya and Robert's faithfulness

281 - Tourney of Harrenhal. Ned states he "came down from the Eyrie" to go there. This is in the third quarter of the year according to vibes I get. False spring lasts less than two months, in the last quarter of the year it's winter again. In the last month of the year, Aegon Is born.

282 - In the first month of the year, Rhaegar vanishes with Lyanna. Around the same time, Littlefinger and Brandon duel with all the drama that is involved. The Cat/Brandon wedding is probably scheduled around the second/third month but we know that doesn't happen. All this time however Ned appears to be in the Vale pointedly not attending 👀👀. Brandon and Rickard die. Various drama in the Vale with Ned and Robert going home to raise their hosts. Do Mya's vague memories of Robert work with her being two years old when she last saw him?? Anyhow. Ned and Robert spend the rest of the year apart to raise their banners and for the latter fight at Summerhall and Ashford

283 - Largely using the wiki at this point bc twoiaf says The Trident was in 282 and just no. Spring probably begins at some point this year. At some point between late 282 and early 283 Robert is wounded, hides at the Peach and conceives Bella. Ned and Hoster Tully arrive to save his ass. Battle of the Bells. Ned and Jon's wedding to Lysa and Cat, all within the first couple months of the year I believe based on Robb's nameday. Battle of the Trident - Robert is once again wounded (by Rhaegar??) so Ned goes to assault KL alone. At this point it's decided Robert will be king. The sack has to be within about a year of the start of the war, so first half of the year? Robert reaches the city, pardons are made, Ned is horrified by Robert's reaction to Aegon and Rhaenys's deaths. Ned leaves to interrupt the siege of Storm's End and do the Tower of Joy stuff.

284 - By this point it's summer. Stannis's assault of Dragonstone. Robert marries Cersei. DOES NED ATTEND THAT WEDDING? Canon says Lyanna's death reconciles them after their fight about the the Targaryen babies, so they saw each other after the Tower of Joy. Would Ned really bring Jon to KL, even if hidden? Did he send him home with Howland and went to Winterfell himself only later? Cat does say by the time she reached Winterfell "Jon and his wet nurse had already taken up residence" though also that "Ned brought Jon home with him". All this, btw, taking in account all the travel times, implies a Robb possibly 1 year old being able to walk and talk by the time he first saw his father, with relative disruption of bonding and possible struggle for Cat to get him to accept this strange man initially, all while she's in agony over Jon... take notes, NedCat week participants!

(it's not known whether Robert and Ned had any occasions to meet again in this 5 year span. A winter comes and goes sometime in this period)

289 - Greyjoy rebellion. Seems to have been spring/later summer. Ned and Robert are together for the siege and assult of Pyke. Unknown whether Ned also attends the tourney of Lannisport or any further celebrations. As we know Robert chooses to celebrate the happy reunion by immediately renewing Ned's child murder trauma from their last argument by giving him his own child hostage <3 unknown whether that was Robert's idea or Ned's ofc but I prefer the first personally.

292/293 - Seems to have involved a visit of Cat and Ned to the south as Cat recalls meeting 5 years ago Lysa and infant Sweetrobin and Ned recalls seeing Tommen during his breastfeeding years, however he claims to not have seen Robert after the Greyjoy rebellion. Interesting choice, could def use some fic and fanwanking. At this point Robb's 9, Sansa 6, Arya 3/4, Bran 2 - Joffrey 6, Myrcella 2, Tommen 1 - Theon 13 - Sweetrobin around 1 too but a few months younger than Tommen, to give an idea.

You know sorry to bring shipping discourse up again but I moved from twitter to tumblr quite recently and during this process have had a complete change of heart in cc boundaries. Originally I genuinely thought anyone who even slightly crossed any vague boundary was wholeheartedly an awful person but I followed a couple people here who I realised were Joel shippers or had nsfw side accounts and I realised that they were real people with like real reasons for things they done and that sent me immediately into a moral crisis. Anyway so now I just look it as wow you do what you want I don’t care, as long as we’re not bringing it to the cc this is our space you know. Basically tumblr taught me that things are morally grey and things are not that deep

Everyone say thank you to Tumblr for the Tumblr culture. You're the type of person I hope the kids on Twitter can eventually grow into lol, whose first reaction to such matters isn't vehement hatred and harassment and doxxing. But I can only hope... But yeah! I very much follow people who have takes or ships etc that I don't agree with but meh, no one's being hurt so who cares. I might rant about it to a friend or two and that's it. It's amazing how we possess the ability to just look past things if we don't like them and yet fail to utilize it so much of the time... for shame. Eddie had come home from work only to hear a faint ‘meow’ from under the trailer. He all but crawled under it to get the cat he knew was under it. He was so excited when he was finally able to get the cat.

He was especially excited to show you, hoping you were a cat person.

He held the cat to his face and kept moving so the cat would face him. “Okay, Cat, be as cute as possible. I’m gonna show you to my girlfriend and we both need a ‘yes’ on this one,” He whispered to it.

The cat very vaguely ‘nodded’ and he went into the trailer.

“Hey babe! Look who I found under the trailer.” He said loudly, causing you to pick your head up from your book.

You stared at him from your spot on the couch before answering. “... Dustin?”

“What? No- Why?” Eddie faltered, trying to figure out what you were trying to connect.

“Kids obsessed,” You shrugged.

“No. I found a cat.” Eddie told you.

You shot up, throwing your book down without a bookmark. “Oh my goodness gracious a cat!” You said happily, going over to your boyfriend to pet it.

Eddie smiled proudly. “Yeah, cute isn’t she?”

“How do you know it’s a she? Did you check?” You asked.

Eddie grimaced at the thought. “No, it’s just the vibe I got. What do you want me to call the cat? It?” He asked with a fake laugh.

“Let’s take it to the vet just to make sure first of all and to see if there’s a missing cat poster.” You suggested, grabbing a jacket and Eddie’s keys.

“Also, vaccinations and worms right?” Eddie asked.

“Yeah. That too.” You said, already out the door. “Can I drive?”

“Fat chance,” Eddie called. “Hold the cat in your seat.”

You and Eddie were nervously waiting in the waiting room for the cat. You were holding onto his arm and curled into the chair and his leg was bouncing like crazy. It’s always bouncing but not as fast as it was when you were waiting for the cat.

The vet came out with the cat and called you two up. You got up there and the vet smiled at you two.

“Okay, first of all your cat is so cute. She’s-” The vet started.

“Ha! She! I was right,” Eddie celebrated, sticking his tongue out at you.

You laughed at his reaction. “Eddie, let the vet talk.”

He crossed his arms and pointed to the vet. “Right. Sorry, continue.”

The vet nodded and continued. “Well, she’s a very healthy cat and is a very good age to be semi-trained. I’d snatch her up since she’s not on the ‘missing pets’ poster.” She informed you.

Eddie was nodding along the whole time. “What about, like, the medical stuff? Like vaccinations and sh... stuff.” Eddie corrected.

“No, just because she’s still pretty young. I would bring her in once she hits the one year mark.” The vet told him.

“She’s still a kitten?” You asked.

“Yeah.”

“Huh.” You and Eddie let out at the same time.

You got your cat back and took her to Eddie’s van. He got in and was almost squealing when he saw the cat.

He started the van and started to head in the direction of Petland for stuff for your new cat such as food.

“We have a cat!” He said excitedly.

“We have a cat!” You responded. “What do you wanna name her?”

Eddie was silent for a second before responding. “What about... Bella?”

You shrugged. “Meh. How about Charlie?” You suggested.

Eddie made a face when you suggested it. “Doesn’t do anything. What about Wendy?” He asked hopefully.

“Ooo! I like Wendy.” You agreed, kissing the cat on the head. “She seems like a Wendy.”

Eddie smiled at you and Wendy. “Good, because it’s the name of the lead singer of a band I like.”

“Figured.” You sighed dramatically. “What color harness should we get her?” You asked. “I was thinking purple.”

“Definitely purple.” Eddie agreed. “Pink is overdone.”

“Agreed. Matching leash?” You asked, already envisioning how walking around Hawkins with Eddie and Wendy would probably go.

Eddie saying “duh” was all that interrupted your thoughts of a peaceful cold weather walk.

“What type of cat food?” You asked.

“Dry.” Eddie responded quickly. “Wet would probably get everywhere.”

“Also expensive as all heck.” You chimed in, nodding. “Brand?” You asked, scratching Wendy behind the ears when she meowed at you.

“Uh... Let the cat decide?” Eddie suggested.

“Okay, I’m down.” You shrugged, putting Wendy down in front of three separate brands of cat food.

Wendy went straight to one of the bags and immediately started pawing at it. You picked Wendy back up and Eddie threw a bag over his shoulder since it was heavy.

“Is Wendy gonna be an outside cat or inside cat?” You asked.

Eddie gasped dramatically. “Babe, what kind of question is that? Inside.”

You shrugged. “Just asking because I grew up in the middle of nowhere and had an outside cat that disappeared after two years.” You defended. “Remember Fiona?”

“... Makes sense.” He nodded. “But she’s not disappearing on us.”

You furrowed your eyebrows, thinking about what you and Eddie had just done. “Are we qualified to be pet parents?”

“No.” Eddie said flatly. “But we’re doing it anyway because this is probably the closest we’re gonna get to having kids.”

“Oh thank god!” You responded, putting a hand to your heart.

Eddie had been outside all day and you had no idea what he was up to. Every time you went to check on him he would wave you off.

Eventually he came back in and was really excited. “Babe! Look what I made Wendy!” He held up a small flower crown proudly in one hand.

“Oh my god cute!” You exclaimed. Wendy looked up from her food bowl at the noise and came over to meow at the two of you.

Eddie held up two more flower crowns that could fit the both of you. “The three of us are matching now!”

“Eddie. That is so cute. C’mere Wendy.” He put yours on you and you picked up Wendy.

He situated the crown on her carefully and she meowed again. Wendy pawed at it until it fell off. You put her down and she ignored the flower crown.

“It’s the thought that counts babe.” You assured Eddie with a kiss on the cheek.

You and Eddie were laying in bed quietly doing things when Wendy came into the room. She crawled through Eddies arms and laid on his chest. Eddie kissed the top of Wendy’s head and put his new song on the nightstand.

You watched the whole thing go down with a smile. “I have never thought I’d be jealous of a cat for cuddling with my boyfriend but here we are,” You sighed. “She’s stealing the love of my life.”

Eddie chuckled and started to pet Wendy. “There’s enough of me to go around ladies. No need to push.”

You covered your face with your book and groaned. “Oh my god, shut up.”

“Quit. You love it.” He said, reaching out to you without disrupting your cat.

“I do but you’re still a weirdo.” You told him, turning over to put your book on he ground next to your side of the bed.

“Yeah. I’m Wendy’s weirdo.” He agreed.

“Eddie,” You giggled.

“Yours too. That was always implied,” He mockingly defended.

You turned to face him, propping yourself up and resting your head on your hand.“We’re gonna be great parents.”

He looked at you slightly taken aback by your statement. “I thought you didn’t want kids?” He asked, tilting his head slightly.

You smiled gently. “I changed my mind. You’d be a great dad.” You complimented, tapping his nose.

“Stop, I’m gonna cry.” He said, fanning his eyes.

You rolled your eyes and smacked his arm. “I was being serious asshole.”

“I know.” Eddie said, disrupting Wendy so he could kiss your cheek before you went to bed.

I’ve sort of stopped posting rant peices because meh I feel like everything that’s needed to be said has been said but I just kind of caught myself analyzing SJM’s writing after my reread of the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and it led me to a comparison that somewhat allowed me to pin point why I just couldn’t really get into Feyre’s character. This is not anti Feyre before people get carried away but I do suggest you ignore this post if you’re a diehard fan even if it’s mostly an SJM critique.

For context during my first read of acotar I was a hardcore Hunger Games fan (the books because I loathe the movies). I’m talking obsessed since even before Mockingjay, the book, came out. And so Feyre somewhat gave me Katniss vibes with the whole bow and arrow/hunting theme but I say somewhat because the whole theme was ditched after the first few pages of acotar. Which isn’t a problem I mean they’re two different characters, two different stories, two different genres. (Note: absolutely no one can compare to Katniss. Additionally, Sarah can’t compare to Suzanne. But that’s just me) So the reason I still chose to do this comparison is because it sort of helped me understand why I could obsess over one character but reject the other when they hold similar traits. I think the best way I could describe it is from the beginning Suzanne Collins created a distinction between the protagonist and the situation which is so important because this allows the reader to understand details of characters surrounding Katniss and her demise while also understanding the responses she has to them as her own character. Maybe a bit confusing so let me give an example. It is explained why certain characters play a hand in Katniss’s demise like her mother, the tributes, her mentors etc very clearly, as in, we can grasp all the tragedies of their own while also understanding Katniss’s response to them separate than the readers eg. Katniss never being able to forgive her mother’s neglect at the same time that the reader understands the mother had untreated depression, the Careers trying to kill her with malicious intent but also understanding they’re basically puppets of the Capitol, Haymitch being a detoriating alcoholic she finds culpable for the lack of District winners but also knowing it’s his only way to cope with his ptsd. Anything about those characters after that is character development from what was already clearly established, more examples: the reveal of Finnick Odair’s promiscuity then learning he was being sold for sex, realizing Johanna’s lack of self preservation is because everyone she loved was murdered, and basically the whole entire book for President Snow’s character in The Balllad of Songbirds and Snakes which wasn’t even a redemption story it was just— 🤌

Whereas Sarah decides to bring up things at random when readers are suppose to have already made up their minds about Feyre’s demise. Cue in Tamlin going from having decent qualities to sudden complete douche, Nesta’s spiteful comments to suddenly she’ll save her, Lucien being a friend to suddenly he’s in debted to her, heck even —no especially Rhys’s ‘did bad things but turns out they were all for the greater good’ characterization throughout the books and everything he does is fine because of it. Because SJM uses Feyre as a way to make the readers believe how bad/good so and so is vs Suzanne who uses Katniss to provide to readers how Katniss believe’s so and so is. Then the way Sarah throws vague cryptic things to make characters seem traumatized which I’d go as far as to say is cringe borderline disrespectful the way they seem to be presented just for ‘aesthetic’ purposes instead of the very real things those topics entail (I’m looking at you Nesta’s SA plus others) but that’s another topic, I’m derailing.

Which is why I will definitely always say that from the very beginning of acotar the whole Elain and Nesta constituting Feyre’s wicked family trope fell extremely flat to me. Like I was completely unbothered— I couldn’t even bring myself to dislike them because it felt almost too obvious the way they were written plus the lack of explanation as to why?? There is this disconnection because sjm doesn’t clearly explain their behavior until way later which results in just a weird retcon type situation. Not only that but she goes on to build from it giving the sisters more importance in the series.

But whatever, that’s just my opinion. Which I’m sure has been said before in different terms.

Yet still I enjoyed Feyre book 1, although, as I made myself complete the series it seems by acosf she’s almost entirely different except for her self sacrificing qualities that tend to remain in all MC’s. I mean I really don’t think Feyre book 1 or maybe even book 2 would’ve let Rhys get away with that horrid pregnancy trope thing going on but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not the owner of any of these characters so. In the end she’s an okay character to me, she’s a determined, loving person, but I just wouldn’t consider her a fave of mine.

genuinely unironically enjoy the jacob chapter titles! there's some pretty atrocious attempts at sounding like a teenage boy in the chapters themselves, but i like the titles a lot. they feel so distinct from bella's voice; 'Why Didn’t I Just Walk Away? Oh Right, Because I’m An Idiot' is very funny; 'You Need A Brain? You Need A Heart? Go Ahead. Take Mine. Take Everything I Have.' is So Much...and then the switch from the really long titles to just 'There Are No Words For This' really hits me!

They were such a breath of fresh air, weren't they? Bella's are vague and blah, usually only one word Gesture, Distractions, New, Shiny. Sometimes two words but still just very meh.

Jacob's are full-on Fall Out Boy song titles.

And lol I agree that some of the attempts to be Relatable Teenage Boy were clumsy at best, but it was still nice to get a different voice for awhile and there were times where Jacob said things that seemed almost self-aware? Like he was almost like "Hey, Steph? This is getting ridiculous" and she just didn't list to him.

I felt like - like I don't know what. Like this wasn't real. Like I was in some Goth version of a bad sitcom.

as promised: s4 retrospective now that the finale is out.

season four is easily the most similar to season one. even the finales are similar. that's good, narratively. it's easy to get carried away with a story, especially one with any level of audience control, so it's reassuring to get confirmation that all of this ties back to the beginning. it also opens up a lot of opportunities for seasons five and six. really, season four is just season one, but arthur knows what the fuck is going on and he and john don't have the most scathing arguments you've ever heard every other episode, and although seasons two and three did a lot of visible character development for the two of them, season four shows the actual result and proof of that development. i know that i predicted a major blow-out between them because only a couple of episodes in i felt they were getting along a little too well. but i was proved wrong! it would have been easy to set up an argument between john and arthur after it's revealed he's lied to him, but i'm glad it didn't happen, and i hope it's not going to, because i do think this was the season that properly established that they are beyond that cycle of vicious arguments.

on individual levels they've also developed a lot. john is, for plot reasons of course, kinda vague through-out the season, but i like that with his increasing humanity he's also gained traits of jealousy and petulance. although with the revelation of his being stuck in dark world, there'll be some real interesting character exploration to do next season. john also got to do a bit more interaction towards the end of this season. i think i've always been partial to arthur because he has more relationship anchors in his life (even if most of them are dead) and i like looking at a character through the lense of how they interact with others. and so far, john's mostly only had arthur to play off of. meanwhile, arthur hitting rock bottom, first in part 26 and then in part 31, really did a lot for him too. him making up with daniel and reaching out to help oscar was heartwarming, i guess, but most importantly it showed how he's determined to actually do something to be a better person and not just wallow in guilt and self-blame. still doesn't change that almost everybody he cares about dies or dissapears, but hey. it's good development.

on a personal level? i'm kinda meh on the season. i was on season one too, so that's not a surprise. it's less to do with the actual writing or narrative and more that i dont care much for fetch-quests or detective stories or, to be honest, plot in general. i like malevolent for it's character aspects. it's my personal indulge to be emotionally punched in the gut by this show. and obviously a story needs to have a plot, and i'm not saying i have issues with the show. just that so far nothing has been able to dethrone season two yet, lol.

let's talk about that finale, then. it's really amazing how kayne dominates with his presence whenever he's there, even if this only, what? like the fourth time? that we see him. i always want to get more kayne, but these occasional doses are really perfect for him. he needs to keep that veneer of mystery and insanity, and he needs to mostly be stagnant in his personality, i think, even if his motivations are unravelled. it's what makes him so entrancing whenever he appears on screen (in ear?). so i hope we don't get too much of him next season, even if he's the one setting up whatever happens next. and speaking of what happens next? an advantage to tying up a lot of old threads this season is that i have very little idea of what season five will be about. jesus fuck am i excited though, though!
