Hope you don’t mind me asking, but what exactly is a3 ? I’ve been seeing a lot of it on my dash (not just from you lol) and when I looked it up it’s an anime but also a game of sorts? I didn’t really understand but could you explain a bit more? thanks :)

I absolutely do not mind you asking, talking about a3 is one of my favorite thing to do, so you're in luck!

I'm putting it all under a cut because, while i tried to be vague and short, i, at least, failed on the second part of this attempt, but i sure hope it'll be good to read still!

and if you end up interested in trying a3 in some shape or form do let me know, i'd die for those kids in a heartbeat and if you get to want to meet them or are just curious about some aspects of it, i'm all open to discuss it. I love a3 so damn much.

A3!, or in its full name: A3! Act! Addict! Actors!, is a visual novel gacha mobile game. Its Japanese server opened in 2017 and is still ongoing. In 2019, an English server opened, translating the story from the start, but it unfortunately had to close down in 2021 after running two years of content :(.

in 2020, an anime adaptation of the 4 first main story chapters was released. It's a... pretty uneven adaptation, depends on the arc it adapts, it had to cut a LOT of things, and i'm personally biased because it completely cut down my fav chara's arcs and i'm not fan of some adaptation choices around some other favs, but it can be a pretty good introduction if you want to give yourself an idea about it (starting by the Spring/Summer season, then the Autumn/Winter)

Personally i started keeping up with the A3! English server when it first came out, until the bitter end, and i miss it so dearly. There's translations for the rest of the story on the wikis, but i've been so heartbroken i haven't managed to get around and catch up just yet...

For the record: fans managed to record and save the entire content of the A3!En server in videos, that we keep on an archive available on a google doc. We're trying to keep it as under the radar as possible so it's hush hush, but if ever you are curious enough to want to navigate it, let me know and i'll share it and give you pointers.

EITHER WAY that's for the technicality.

The Visual Novel follows the story of Izumi Tachibana as she is lured into the indebted theater her father used to own before he disappeared years ago. Due to circumstances that involves yakuza because it's a very normal game, Izumi ends up in a situation in which she is tasked with bringing back the Theater to its glory days in less than a few months: mainly, by forming back Four Troupes of 5 Actors, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, each dedicated to a specific type of plays, and putting on successful shows after successful show in the hope to save the theater.

The core of the story is especially found, of course, with the actors that ended up joining the various troupes and the dynamic those troupes end up having with one another, as each have very clear themes in the way they interreact with one another.

While the story starts about clearing a debt, the story follows specifically the whole idea of encouraging those actors to grow and bloom, both as actors and as individuals, learning to heal from their past and move forward to their future.

The Gimmick is also that each play we end up putting on together, tends to serve to have the characters use introspection in order to understand their roles. So you both end up having Unique New Mini Stories at every play, but also play the game of "and how is that play serving the character arc of the Actor inspiring it".

Here's are our first members, for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

After one year of content, each troupe got a 6th member, whom therefore we call the rookies.

A3! shines a lot by its really amazing dialogues and humor, but also the genuineness in which it approaches its emotional moments and the characters arcs of each character. Basically we all agree, if you end up relating to Any Characters, be prepared to cry because they'll be coming for you specifically with arcs made specifically to hurt you. But also to heal you. I've never recovered and it was the best thing that ever happened to me, that coexist.

As you can see, there's 24 main characters who's story ends up very important, so teasing more about presenting each of them would make this post impossibly long (i COULD do it though, because i do love them all so dearly). The story focus mostly on them, but, at least in the VN, Izumi is herself a pretty fun protagonist to follow. I think the anime cut down a lot of her scenes though....

The story is followed through Main Story Chapters AND Event Stories, Main Story at the begining of the "Act" (see bellow) and two event stories each months, and the events bring a lot to the character arcs so it's not exactly bonus content.

Playstyle wise it's nothing really interesting, and we mostly participate to the Gacha or ranking up events because the cards are new arts of the boys and come with bonus stories only unlockable once you own the card, usually linked to the current ongoing event. They're more bonus content but a lot of them are really fun or hint at some angst as well.

The First Year of content was called Act One, and it covered first the 4 First Main Story Chapters following the creation of each troupes, then, 19 event stories. Then, Act Two, which had 4 New Main Story Chapters introducing the Rookies, each separated by one event, before then being only events. When the English server closed we were 19 events into Act 2, and we never got to see Act 3. Act 3 is a little more mushy in term of how the time flow/how the Main Story and Events are organized so i'd only recommand looking into it only if you get into the whole thing.

As I mentioned, the anime only covers therefore the 4 First Main Story Chapters, which means, only the creations of the troupes and their first plays, and it condensed them a lot so yeah...

Another thing about a3 is that it's also really musically based.

Each Troupes have about 3 Troupe songs each that kinda showcase their dynamic (Two for Act 1, One for Act 2), and each character have a Solo song that showcase their characters pretty well. (one at the beginning of their story, and one set in Act 3).

I'm not going to list everything, unless you're curious in which case i can share some of my favorites, but i can at least share one song of each of the troupes, as to drive the point that each troupe have a very different vibe going for them. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

Aside from that, each Play the actors pull together have a duet between whoever is the Lead and Co-Lead actor of each play, in character of the play itself. Noteworthy however that each play is made to explore character arcs, so while they represent their play characters, it also represents the actors themselves.

There is also a few songs sang by the Leader of each troupes, as the one i linked above. The song i linked above is the opening song of the game when you open it for the first time!

(since the singing is an appealing part, if you want some "hey, it's the seiyuu of ____" moment, i can provide. If you're a nonny who follows me for gbf for instance i need to tell you about the duet between Vane's and Mordred's VAs because i think about it All The Time)

So, that's basically the outline of what you need to know about A3!.

Any more details about the specific bonds the troupes have, or who the characters are, could be spoilery if you want to get into it, but if you're curious about any of them i'm willing to talk more about them. I swear i could ramble about all of them for hours.

I think people like her the least because she's like..."normal"? She doesn't necessarily stand out as much as the others do, and I get the impression that makes people pay less attention to her :( But she's lovely!! She's a loyal friend, hardworking, and I love her family relationships too!! I'm super close to my siblings and love seeing those bonds in media XD

I did not know electric violins were a thing!! Worldview changing news right there. (sincere in a mildly hyperbolic way) I need to know what other electric instruments exist now however...I want an electric saxophone. Do those exist? I need to find out. (Okay turns out YES oh my god I love it. Some of them feel faintly cursed but that's ok I love a cursed instrument.)

It's cool how much we have in common X'D If you wanna keep talking post exchange I'd be up for that! Tbh at one point I too wanted to be a games designer...I tried to make a visual novel once. I did not have the patience for it. (It's funny cause my job requires a lot of patience, but then often I do not have patience?? I joke that my job uses up my patience but tbh I think it's just a different type of patience. Explaining concepts to a child repeatedly feels different from learning to code or play an instrument. I imagine there's many people who have the patience for the latter who would not for the former.)

I ALSO at one point wanted to go into fashion design - specifically, wedding dress designs!! I basically went from STEM careers to art careers then settled in education XD If I could do all three I would. But for now I'm satisfied with art as a hobby and education as a job. My mum also works with kids, but like, early years so before school aged XD I guess I sort of take after her in that regard.

Re: dogs and cats! My uncles both have dogs XD I think I'm kinda wary of dogs because I know many poorly trained dogs. But then like...one of my uncles has the most chill dog ever? Kinda a dumb dog too. They got burgled once and on camera they found that the dog had been awake and the burglar just stepped over the dog. She's just a very docile dog that doesn't feel a need to get worked up over things XD

I am very sorry about the cat trying to kill you tho!! Some cats can be vicious, to be fair. My two are very sweet thankfully - a black and white one who is 5 in October, and a tabby who turns 2 in May! The older one is generally more chill, she just likes to sleep and cuddle and judge others. And then the younger one wants to run around and cause trouble (nothing major, to be fair, worst she does is steal my post) and play all the time lol. She also wants to cuddle a lot, but she finds it hard to sit still long enough.

Fun fact I am making a pair of lilac trousers atm XD They're corduroy and I'm gonna add sequined hearts on afterwards.

My favourite way to spend a day off is basically art, time with my sister (and friends, but usually I have to text because we live a few hours apart), and then a date with my gf. I like a bit of gaming too (found out Stardew Valley updated so been on that today after I finished work). It's also less energy consuming, so it's nice to use light gaming as a break inbetween art stuff. Providing it's single player games. I am extremely competitive when it's multiplayer, woops. My family and I once ended up contacting a monopoly helpline because my uncle and I got into such a debate over one of the rules lol. And as for compliment...not really sure? Sometimes I have people ask me where I got my clothes, or ask if I got them from specific brands, and that feels like a compliment because it means I made something that looks at least vaguely professional XD Honestly compliments on my art always make me happy. Oh, and compliments professionally - whenever a child or parent has positive things to say about me I'm like :D. I think I just like to know that others appreciate the things I can do? so far in bg3 ive beaten the goblin camp and am holding off on doing the tiefling party until i get more affection. (im TOO indecisive and aroallo and polyam for this what do you MEAN i cant just sleep w any of the characters i want without having to get into their full on romance routes. dont tell me every single one of these characters wants that deep emotional connection or w/e like come on 😭) and i have id say. more than half the companions now? so recording my thoughts. normally i make little posts while i game but bg3 is so addicting i couldnt even open tumblr to talk abt it. i played it for almost 12 hours i think today (with breaks in between but STILL). which is why this is so long im rambling abt everything since i started the game

i feel like me and shadowheart have a good thing going rn if she were more physically my type i think id be certain on romancing her. im attached to her we’ve been together since the start of the game (i didnt find any of the other companions until after i went to the druid grove and had made it to the goblin camp LMAO i didnt realize they were all just right there). shes very pragmatic but i also notice she approves occasionally when im nice. i like her <3 we’re besties we’re a Team

i found astarion second and. yeah i get why hes tumblr’s favorite. hes an evil flirty fruity vampire. he has white hair and pronouns. that bloodsucking scene might as well have just been a sex scene. i enjoy him in my party (actually hes my fav character to play as, i love dashing around and stabbing and vampire biting people. i originally thought id have him as kind of a spellcaster but i even paid to respec him to have more mobility spells/traits. also hes my go-to for picking locks and disarming traps, w items and keeping him fed ive gotten him up to +7 sleight of hand, it was 9 before but i think i might have accidentally removed a bonus when respeccing him lmao. hes like the most useful of my party outside of combat. anyway) and im a lesbian but im literally torn on whether or not i should accept his proposition at the tiefling party bc hes just so entertaining. i might full on romance him in another save. but the thing w him is that im a monsterfucker sure (karlach 💞) but i dont like his moral compass it makes conversations w him so difficult to navigate it stresses me out. like im playing a self-insert and kind of just choosing the options i choose right. but he probably thinks all my dialogue options are too soft and weak and wishy-washy💔 like sorry i dont think idolizing absolute power is a good thing bro. even if i get why hed be obsessed w power after 200 years of utterly lacking any. doesnt mean i have to agree w his cynicism

on that topic thats why im utterly enamored w karlach💗💗 i love her. like of all the romancable characters i genuinely would enjoy dating her. if it werent for my emotional attachment to shadowheart after being w her so long itd be a no brainer. like at the beginning i just wanted her in my party bc shes a hot buff demon lady. but shes such a joy??? her zest for even the little things in life like her dialogue w shadowheart abt nature. her just cheerfully dancing in camp. shes boisterous and passionate and enthusiastic. also shes the only one of the characters i like who approves when i go out of my way to help people and when i brainwashed this monster into cannibalizing its pack (fucked up but i didnt wanna fight the whole horde And it) shadowheart and astarion approved but she Disapproved, and idk it just feels like a breath of fresh air to see someone who’s more openly just held on to goodness after everything shes gone through, after shadowheart’s and astarion’s disregard for other people. i need to find her a mechanic to fix her engine but i dont think i can go to the tiefling camp without triggering the party scene so. 💔

i dont really like gale tbh. i mean i dont Not like him he was fine to have in my party but as soon as karlach came along it was an easy choice to kick him out. his storyline is interesting from what ive seen but i feel like. im just not charmed by him lol. i failed a roll while he was trying to teach me magic in this probably romantic scene but he just cut it off there and i didnt bother savescumming to reroll. i also have met wyll but yeah hes fine. kind of the goody type from what ive seen and hes nice enough im also just not charmed. truly i think its just that im a lesbian but i find these two boring in comparison to the three above. ive also found halsin and hes abt to join my party but i made my character a druid already so hes kinda redundant😭 i googled it and hes the only one whos down w polyamory which is so sad bc i can see why people who like men find him hot but i dont, why couldnt any of the three companions i actually like let me date multiple people 😭😭 sadness. i wish it was like sdv where you can date everyone w no consequences as long you exclude one person. i dont like any of the guys except astarion please bg3😭😭😭

Rogier gives the quickest access to good variety of magic type weapon arts, so I ran around testing them. Pebble is one of my fav weapon arts in the game - great mid-range and multipurpose tool, quick poke with the option to commit.

That said, an 'unexpected combo' came from 'Glintblade Phalanx' - the weapon art of Rogier's Rapier.

You see, each magic blade has 10 poise damage, the blades linger on weapon swap. Therefore, cast Glintblade Phalanx on a weapon - then switch back to your Main Hand. You can now open every encounter with +40 Poise damage. Video with details

note: getting Rogier's Ragier puts you in the +8 weapon matchmaking for multiplayer.

2. Becoming an Assassin?

Adding to the above method of easy poise damage was a perfect storm of equipment.

1. Magic Glintblade - the Prisoner's starter spell adds nice opening burst. 2. Claymore mainhand - can use Impaling Thrust or Glintstone Pebble's followup lunge - both are early-game ashes with incredible poise damage. 3. Misericorde - from Stormveil, all-in-one Critical stick and holder for Glintblade Phalanx skill.

This then led to the question - perhaps Solis should become an assassin?

3. Poise Damage

You dont need to count poise on monsters, I certainly didn't. But incase - heres the numbers.

Glintblade Phalanx - 40 (4 Blades, 10 each)

Impaling Thrust - 33 (5.5 Greatsword x 600% Weapon Art)

Magic Glintblade - 5 (uncharged), 10.5 (charged)

Greatsword - 5.5 base (x2 for 1H Heavy, x6 for charged 1H Heavy)

note: 2Handing does add 30% poise damage for weapons swings, but we assume 1H due to off-handing a staff.

4. Do Combo

The most suprising (and my favourite aspect of this build), was how versatile the combos could be with these tools.

The most simple goes like this...

Combo 1 - Basic 1. Draw Misericorde - use Glintblade Phalanx 2. Draw Claymore - open with a high poise damage attack - Impaling Thrust or charged/jumping heavy. This stance breaks most human sized foes - draw Misericorde and crit away.

A slightly more complex one.

Combo 2 - Escape Finisher 1. Draw Misericorde - use Glintblade Phalanx 2. Draw Claymore - open with charged/jumping heavy. 3. Impaling Thrust/Glintstone Pebble Good vs tougher foes, slippery foes or just monsters that are dangerous up close. Uses the lunge of Impaling Thrust to catch a dashing enemy or force the last chunk of poise damage needed to stun.

Since Glintblade Phalanx lingers for a long time after use, and Magic Glintblade can be 'prepared' from long range - we can expand the combo without needing to hurry.

Combo 3 - Preparation 1. Draw Misericorde - use Glintblade Phalanx 2. Cast Magic Glintblade - charge if necessary This one is really open ended. A charged Glintblade takes longer to prepare than an uncharged one. You can wait for the Glintblade to fire and then do Combo 1/2 for a big opener. Or run in, do Combo 1/2 and let the Glintblade followup. The latter strat is good on large and mobile enemies that can dodge away surviving the basic combo (eg. Lions). Its also good at chipping poise of mobile bosses, stopping their stance from recovering (eg. Morgott). note that some monsters can be knocked out of their stagger state - a Glintblade followup can stop a crit opening.

5. Others Tricks

Swift Glintstone Shard - use as fast poke. Does measly poise damage (2), but good at chipping/preventing stance recovery. Probablly the best on-hand spell to have in most boss fights.

Ranged Stanced Breaks - Basic combo will destroy the stance of most enemies - bosses included. However, those that dont fall over instantly often need only a tiny bit more poise damage.

Dont be suprised if a stray Glintblade stuns a boss from long range. (ie. dont stand too far away, be prepared to run in and crit at any time)

Impaling Thrust - The tracking on this skill is quite poor. Manually aim your character, then lock on for best accuracy. The skill also causes a 'low lunge' and is fast moving - it is possible to avoid certain attacks with this skill.

Glintstone Pebble WA - The first cast is ranged poke, the follow up is Impaling Thrust-like. A slower speed but all-in-one alternative to Swift Shard + Impaling Thrust.

Carian Piercer - Charged version can launch many human type enemies. This works on Rennala.

Frosbite Status - causes a guaranteed stagger on human type enemies when it triggers.

Favorite expansion: Depends ... TS2 : Bon voyage and Freetime (or something) were my fav/ TS3 : World Adventures/ Supernatural and Showtime (I actually looooooved this one, the shows were so cool to do)/ TS4 : Snowy Escape (for the fun and Komorebi !) and maybe the Selvadorada gamepack (I always forget the official names sorry ^^”) for Selvadorada and the adventure side. I guess I just love to make my sims travel !

Small pets or horses: Pets ... I’m actually more excited to get cows and llamas with Cottage even though it feels weird to not include horses in a farm pack ><

Favorite active career: Actor or Paranormal Investigator (when you have things to do, the pack is kind of fun)

Favorite LTW/Aspiration: None. I choose depending the sims I’m creating but so far my favourites to complete were the ones related to the new worlds like discovering Sulani or Komorebi. I think it’s a good way to discover  new pack and see what it hides :)

Whims, wishes or wants and fears: Wants and Fears ! I remember having fun with that back at the time ! Also, the new like/dislike system is kind of cool ! But I still have to actually play the game to discover what it really brings ...

Favorite occult: Witches, always :) And I love the system they created for ts4. I wish they would have added more but it’s still better than before in my memories. I only tested witches on ts3 before and it wasn’t a huge thing in my memories so yeah, ts4 witches are the best to me I guess ! I also love vampires but witches are my tribe now irl so ....

Cowplants, Bonehilda or Social Bunny:  Cowplants AND Bonehilda ! The social bunny isn’t as iconic as them ! I remember the imaginary spooky ones in ts2 when your sims felt alone, that stuff was terrifying XD But Bonehilda and the cowplants are just such a fun and add to the licence, I couldn’t imagine not seeing them. I was so happy to see Bonehilda again with Paranormal :)

How do you pick the names for your Sims: It usually depends on their ethnicity, their look and their storyies. For Destiny Harbour though, it was the contrary. I though about the name and the story first and then I created her in my game. I also choose some names based on characters/people I like and I also check the meaning of their name and see if it fits or not. For Leïla and Soraya, they’re arab and french so they have arabic names; Leïla is named after Leïla Bekhti (a french actress) and Soraya is one of my favourite arabic name. Hiro and Renji Kaneki are half japanese and are named after Tokyo Ghoul characters. Denise Bailey is actually named after 2 black character I loved on TV show (Denise Hemphill from Scream Queens and Miranda Bailey from Grey’s Anatomy). William was named like that as he coud be a Shakespearian character. Hugo is a reference to Victor Hugo, a famous french author as Hugo is obsessed with french culture. Milo is named that way because Milo also can be related to seduction (and he’s hot af!) and also because of the personnality type. Aïssa is named after Aïssa Traoré (a french activist)and it also means Alive (she chose that name when she transionned).

Create a spouse or find them in game (townies): Both ? It really depends on what I want to do. I used to create an entire family but now I like to also includes townies as well into my sims legacy just to see what mess it will create ^^

Do you prefer following storytelling simblrs or gameplay simblrs: Both, as long as the content is good, and there’s a lot of it here !!! The only thing that convince me to follow someone or not is also their inclusivity. I’m totally not attracted by only cis white straight skinny representation that used to be around for a while so yeah, I’m happier when I see my dash full of colours and representations.

What year did you join simblr: I was on Simblr before it existed :p I remember looking for different blogs when I played TS2 and discovered the cc universe. Tumblr wasn’t a thing back then so each creator had their own blog and everything was free ... Yep, most of you are too late to have known this amazing time ! Anyway, officially I joined in 2019 :)
