Born in Doolin, Ireland to a traditional/folk singer and handyman, Eden was the eldest and only daughter but the youngest child of three. The love was real and there in the family, but something always felt off to young Eden. She watched as tourists would flock to the ‘home of traditional Irish music’ each year and spend her time daydreaming about running away with them, far away from this place with so many expectations but so little room for growth. She buried herself into learning how to be the best for her family’s sake, in the hopes that this might fill whatever it was she felt she was missing. If there was a problem to solve, it was expected that someone in the community could pick up the slack and figure out a solution, so Eden devoted herself to learning as much as she could, finding she excelled in assisting the local midwives and doctors alike. She wasn’t quite sure it was her calling and passion, but it provided an escape, and after her graduation from Trinity, her next big leap was going to the magical land she had come to hear of so much: California.

Eden has always had a tendency to seem far away. She’s warm-hearted and nurturing at her best, but there’s a piece of her that can never allow herself to give fully into something, whether it is a person or a place. With her escapist tendencies, Eden tends to say yes to others’ without much of a second thought. This leads to her finding herself being taken advantage of more often than not, but by the time she realizes what has happened, she likely already has some choice words planned out and one foot out the door. Eden allows herself to float from whatever draws her interest to the next, which can make her seem flakey or a bit air-headed at times, but she’s smart and will never leave a project half way done if she’s already begun it.

hobbies include: ceramics, photography, hiking, reading, birdwatching (and sketching), beekeeping/urban farming, biking, learning how to skateboard (she thinks it looks cool but is no good), repro justice work, going to church when The Spirit moves her to do so

she won a competition for a free summer camp for high schoolers interested in going to medical school at northwestern. she enjoyed chicago, but visited once in winter and hated the cold. what that did for her, however, was open up a lot of doors to then eventually go to hearst college for medical school on full scholarship.

she has a tendency to say what’s on her mind. sometimes these comments seem a bit unsolicited, but most of the time, eden doesn’t really mean anything by them.

eden’s current motivations & goals are to complete medical school, go on to complete her residency as a obgyn resident with a focus on trans/non-binary health, and hopefully move into a bigger place. beyond that... she doesn’t really know. it’s her biggest problem with herself at this moment: she doesn’t feel comfortable with knowing who she is and what she wants.

she loves ceramics, and it is a fairly good sign that she’s taken a liking to you if she’s made you a mug before.

crying is just as common as laughter with eden. she feels everything deeply, but she has a hard time processing all of those emotions, and she often will keep things to herself if they elicit a strong emotional response until she has time to understand them.

she’s really tried to get into wine, being in california, but she truly isn’t a fan. she prefers a beer or gin drink if she’ll be consuming alcohol, but really enjoys smoking so she won’t have to worry about a hangover the next morning.

loyal to a fault. she won’t admit it just how fiercely she loves and protects her friends, but it will show through. cross her friend and you won’t soon forget.

Community Organization - A Kul Tiras RP Postmortem

I should probably preface this whole ridiculous thing with the fact that I genuinely don’t want to upset anybody with it, but just do something of a postmortem. I removed all names save for those people I’m explicitly calling out for being great and handling this community well despite what’s happened to it. These are genuine observations from somebody who’s tried to both run events and be as involved in Kul Tiras as I can be for the last yearish.

I wish there was a way to make Kul Tiras roleplay a thing again but I genuinely don’t really have the connections to do so or the time to put together a lot of events personally- I already run two communities on Moon Guard and officer for a small guild.

I’ll keep ranting after the jump I suppose.

The early cross-realm Kul Tiras community started off with a huge bang. I think despite how bad the gameplay of the early expansion came out to be, there was a lot of energy around the setting and a ton of excitement for Boralus as a whole. We had not one, but two in-game communities that had a good deal of crossover in membership between them. Surprisingly, BoralusRP and PortRP proved that in-game communities could still remain strong despite the total absence of a Discord to back it up. It broke the conventional wisdom I’d heard about how in-game RP was dead and there was RP to be found in abundance during the early days. While a discord server was later created for PortRP (now Living Kul Tiras), the in-game communities always remained far more popular and active than it.

Unfortunately, I think the biggest blows to Kul Tiras RP weren’t sharding, but more that those who had created the communities didn’t necessarily have very many intentions past making the space for roleplay to maybe happen. Were it not for the awesome and very regular bar nights being hosted in the early expansion, we’d very quickly realize that there was nothing actually going on in the communities besides them. People made these groups with seemingly no intention of hosting events- unless it was a guild event that had open invitation.

What was more, there wasn’t any support from the leadership of these groups for the kind souls willing to run these awesome events. Nobody in leadership was interested in helping event runners get the word out regarding their stuff or otherwise promote them save for leaving calendar invites open. I know firsthand, after all, having tried to run the Shadows over Duskford arc back in October 2018 and having a hell of a time trying to invite Kul Tiras-based guilds to it.

A number of dramatic things also seemed to undercut the efforts being made in the community- Having a prominent community member wind up to be a neo nazi didn’t help the image of Kul Tiras, nor did one of PortRP’s admins getting in a huge fight on the forums and caught using alt characters to back themselves up.

Kul Tiras limped along on life support after the new year. Community events got hosted still and I can only voice utter appreciation at that. I absolutely adore my memories of the Shattered Glass (miss you a heck of a lot, Mac) despite this fact, but things were rough in January/february.

Hype about the addition of Kul Tirans as an allied race infused the community with new life, at least for a little bit. Three new discords were created for each of the zones in preparation for this infusion of new people the community expected to get...

...but then we didn’t really get a lot of new people. What was more, the community suddenly found three new discords to have to be involved in, but the Tiragarde Sound and Drustvar ones were basically just empty and dead most of the time. It was the same discord just copy/pasted for the zones, with the same leadership team. While I’ve heard the Tidesage one was active, by the time I joined long after it was made, the place was incredibly quiet. I don’t really know a lot about the leadership teams of these discords, but I don’t think any major events came out of them.

On Moon Guard, the Boralus Law Project (a sort-of clone of the very popular Stormwind Law Project) was started in June, had one meeting, and then barely ever met again. While the effort was earnest, the delivery was... lacking, really hard. The solitary meeting was mostly argument over Drust relics and being told where we were allowed to stand.

At this point in time, about a year after the trio of new Kul Tiras servers got started, all five public discords related to it are dead and most of the stuff in that vein is over, save for what I’ll list below.

Some Praise

The only time I’ve seen life infused back into the Kul Tiras community as it was fading was the hosting of @caelin-tautstring‘s Kul Tiras Market. I know things have gotten quieter there, but I think he’s absolutely done the best with what he’s been handed. I wish the market had more patronage than it does now, but I’m not really a huge member of WrA’s community and MG’s Kul Tiras groups are laughably distant, small, or don’t play retail so I have no real way of getting the word out about it.

Jacquell has been at it hosting bars in Kul Tiras for as long as I can remember. Seriously, it may not be every week but that’s absolute dedication that no other event runners have had. I wish I made it to more of these just to show up and support her because she absolutely deserves it. Go give her forum thread some love and go to the next event on the 6th.

@atc-wra runs the HARBOR GAMES. Gosh, those are awesome. go to them! support them! Support Kul Tiras. They’re really cool people and I wish I had gotten more opportunity to interact.

Some Takeaways

Don’t start a community unless you intend to provide for it.

I appreciate the various Kul Tiras communities being founded. I absolutely, 100% do- my own character wouldn’t be around there if I hadn’t been given a great place to be. However, my main gripe with the people who founded these communities is that they just made them as a place to congregate, and very little else.

The same goes for the trio of discords that got founded- where are the events? Bar nights, roll events meet & greets, stories. We’re all here to write stories, yeah? I feel like it is the role of moderators or leaders to do their best to provide for these communities with events, support, and most importantly, direction. People need to know what a community is for, rather than just being “the kul tiras community” or “the tidesage community.”

Support community events!

Seriously, I remember being discouraged when my events weren’t supported. If you can’t make the event, then hawk it to your friends or guild members who can. Hell, make a guild event out of attending. Give them praise, feedback, anything. People who make events are the lifeblood of communities. They will die if they do not have a variety of events happening at frequent intervals.

If you’re going to abandon something, pass ownership off to somebody else in the community.

BfA sucked. yeah, we all know. I don’t blame anybody for going to FF14 or ESO or any other game, but I do blame them for leaving and failing to put other people in charge of the communities they ran. If you don’t want to host a bar event anymore, then give it to one of your customers or take on an apprentice or something. If you don’t want to run a discord, see if a community contributor can help.

I think the community would have been better off if they weren’t left waiting for things that weren’t going to happen.

A couple of prominent event runners left people waiting for events that never came. I feel like it’s important to be communicative, and if necessary, pass popular events off to other people if you’re no longer interested in running them. Promising how there will be more bar nights soon, or that you’ll do an event in the future, and then never following up on it? That sure sucks, especially if the event runner moved to FFXIV or Classic.

I’m grumpy about Moon Guard’s Kul Tiras community.

Nobody is responsible for supporting a community if they don’t want to. That is very important to preface this with. However, I do feel like if one is trying to position themselves as the center of Kul Tiras roleplay, they should engage themselves and their entire guilds in the community. Refusing to show up to the cross-realm events (or host anything) despite having like... at least 20 people around in your guild really sucks. A golden opportunity to beef the RP up was lost. If you want an example of what should have been done, <Kul Tiran Admiralty/Commonwealth> hosted open events for people to come to, supported other events, and generally was super active.

Hell, MG’s most active Kul Tiran groups were <Boralus Merchant Marine> and <Outliers> and they were both really small guilds. I love ‘em and I wish I’d helped support them more. The big ones should have taken lessons from their involvement, because at least they did it.

Now the people who ran the big guilds complain a lot about the death of the community, and i’m like... hello?? You had your chance and didn’t bother until it was too late.

This has been an extremely long rant about Kul Tiras. Is it fair? Maybe? I don’t know. I’m trying to throw out whatever I can for this without being too harsh.

values: the aesthetic !! literally loves the aesthetic so much. everything she owns is super embellished, she’s a pop socket gal, her dell laptop is covered in glitzy stickers, she always has acrylics n probs makes nail art videos on tiktok. really tuned into tiny details like painting a little hello kitty above her eye which translates into her degree when she’s doing small-scale mockups of town plans n stuff... she jst puts so much detail into them. ppl often get surprised when she tells them she does architecture but it makes so much sense bcos she grew up in a trailer park n was always thinking about ways the space could be more efficiently used, like she loves re-conceptualising neighbourhoods, definitely spent hours on sims as a kid. she also grew up near hoover dam n so loads of school trips they just took them there n she was like.... this is tight but it could be cooler.... where’s the passion....

Ahhhh, I’m so happy you feel that way! I’ve thought about this question a bit, and I think I have a good answer for you now that we officially have 6 characters coming in, and I'm able to survey the dynamics a little better!

I’ve also been rewatching zombie shows (The Walking Dead, Kingdom, etc., etc.) and trying to pinpoint just what’s missing from the dynamics of these groups, so I’m gonna try my best:

The Professor - An educated individual always trying to find the reason behind a certain event, even if, in reality, there is no logical reason or idea that makes sense. They’re knowledgeable and book smart, but applying that to surviving in a world with little use for historical facts and philosophical ideas is easier said than done.

The Innocent - Before the infection, they lived their lives in relative ease- never worrying about any atrocities or evil in the world. In fact, they would swear up and down about the good in people, and how there’s beauty everywhere, you look. It makes you wonder how they plan to find beauty in a world where water is scarce, and killing someone could be the difference between living and dying.

The Gangster with a Heart of Gold - The world always saw them as one thing, so they played along while they could. Cold-hearted, selfish, and only looking out for number 1. Never mind that they actually cared about people and the world around them. So when that world falls, and everyone is scrambling and killing each other for resources, everyone but them is surprised when they step up to take care of the little guy. The things they learned from their tumultuous past would prove to be the key to surviving their future.

The Celebrity - All they ever wanted since the moment they struck it big was a moment of peace. Away from the paparazzi and the constant badgering from their family and the public alike. The view from their multi-million dollar mansion was bright, right up until their publicist tried to take a bite out of their face. Now the road to stardom has crumbled behind them, and in front of them lies a path full of the dead and no one giving a flying fuck about who they are. Oh, the horror.

The Scientist - They were a part of the project studying the effects of the bright purple flower that led to the end of the world. In the beginning, they were optimistic. The findings from the flower would boost their career and forever cement their name in the scientific history of man kind. They didn’t expect for their expermant to bring about the end of the world as they knew it. Now they struggle with both guilt and fear that someone may find out that they’re partially responsible for zombies running rampant.

The Stripper - Living in Las Vegas, the best way an attractive person could make good money was by taking their clothes off for other people. They didn’t particularly enjoy it, but it paid their bills and that was all that really mattered. They never really thought that they would be stabbing a dead person in the eye with a six-inch stilletto, but one has to make due when surviving the apocalypse. Resourceful as they are, surviving doesn’t prove to be a problem, especially when people underestimate them.

I really hope this helps! These are just some ideas I had, and you don’t have to use them of course! You could literally bring an OC over from a past rp, find a way to put them in Vegas, and have that be your character! The point is to have real people reacting to a really, really bad situation, so don’t worry about what kind of character they are! Just make sure you enjoy them!

so, you want to write your muse against jordan, but you have no idea what to do? have no fear! plotting can be pretty daunting—I know I always blank on ideas the second I go to approach someone about something, or I’m always afraid I’ll suggest something that’s overdone or that the mun isn’t particularly interested in. hence, this guide! keep in mind everything here is just a suggestion, so if you have ideas that don’t really fit what I’ve put in this guide, that is fine! throw them my way! and happy plotting!

MEET JORDAN RILEY ( aka a really quick character cheat sheet )

she’s a college student. specifically, she’s currently in her junior year as a graphic design student and is also a resident assistant, because it’s the only way she could afford to continue to attend school ( #justcollegethings ). like many students, her preferred study method is coffee and tears, and thinking too far into the future freaks her out, so she copes by screaming inwardly and pushing on even though she needs to relax ( whatever that means ).

she’s also a resident assistant. and surprisingly, taking the job wasn’t all about the money, though that was a big motivator. jordan genuinely enjoys the position; not so much the paperwork and having to enforce rules all the time, but getting to decorate her floor, help freshmen navigate campus life and academics, and plan fun programs and activities for them is something that makes her feel a sense of accomplishment. of course, the perks of having a room and bathroom all to herself make it extra nice.

she’s very involved. if she’s not working on projects, she’s designing layouts for one of the student-run magazines; if she’s not doing that, she’s hosting a radio show with one of her friends; if she’s not doing that, she’s at improv practice; if she’s not there, she’s probably stress crying in the shower, tbh. either way, she likes keeping busy whenever she can; sometimes to a fault.

she hates talking about ‘it.’ not the movie; no, she enjoyed both chapters, even if she hasn’t made her way through the brick that is the novel yet. no, she hates talking about her past traumas, she absolutely hates talking about the whole rothfield murders fiasco and the fact that she was a target because she spoke up about being assaulted, which is understandable, because all of that is shitty. she’s trying to move on from it all; she wishes the rest of the world would, too.

PRE-ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS ( aka a starting point for fleshing out dynamics )

be a resident in her building. this one is especially great if your muse is a college student; rothfield university is a big school and there are roughly six thousand students living on campus; 250 of those students live in williams hall, split across four floors. while williams hall tends to have a mix of underclassmen and skews heavily toward having primarily incoming freshmen reside there, it isn’t unusual for juniors or seniors to stay in the building because it’s cheaper than trying to rent an apartment on their own, and they don’t have to pay for a parking pass that they rarely use because there’s never any place to park. jordan has to keep in contact with the residents living on her floor, do regular academic and wellness checks, etc.; but beyond that, she genuinely wants to help them adjust to campus and college life, and likes being a mentor.

be a fellow art student/classmate. technically jordan’s major of study falls under the college of communication and information, but she’s on track to learn a bachelor’s of fine arts in graphic design, and she spends a lot of her time in the art building attending studio classes and pouring over projects. she has other courses she has to take to fill requirements for her core classes and the like ( such as art history, algebra, sociology, etc.); if your muse is a college student, why not make them a classmate of jordan’s? especially if they’re in different majors but happen to be taking all the same ‘core’ classes; it’s always great having a note-sharing buddy, if nothing else.

be involved in a club/organization with jordan. she’s an illustrator for a student-run general interest magazine, she has a radio show, and she’s in an improv group, and usually auditions for productions through the school of theater and dance whenever she has the time. make your muse a member of the editorial team on the magazine, or a blogger, or a fellow DJ, or someone who enjoys performing; I’m sure they’ll cross paths with jordan somehow, some way!

be one of her professors/mentors. chances are there’s a bullshit course your muse could teach if they don’t fit in ‘traditional’ courses of study like history, economics, etc.; my university offered two different courses on glass blowing; there’s no limit to what can be taught on a college campus to fill credit hour requirements. jordan’s degree of study requires a lot of liberal arts credits and she’s definitely the type to take a course on analyzing tone and message in zombie movies because, what else is she going to do with $800 dollars in grant money? she’s a good student, and tries not to skip classes, and will usually keep quiet in the back if she’s not up to participating. she also attends office hours when she’s not grasping something, and if she likes a class she took because of the professor, she usually tries to take more of their classes.

work at/in rothfield in some capacity. be another resident assistant, work at the coffee shop frequented by students, be part of campus security, be an event coordinator with campus, be that one lady who walks her three rescue dogs on campus every evening; there’s really no limit here ( the lady with rescue dogs was a thing at my school and I ended up befriending her, and she turned out to be the dean of the women’s studies department and is generally the coolest person I know, ANYWAY ); if any of this appeals to you, hit me up and we’ll flesh out the details.

be a townie. whether your muse is a student who graduated and never left rothfield or is a born-and-bred local that can spin a yarn about the history of campus, or just likes showing up at house parties for the hell of it, this is another great way to cross paths with jordan and strike up a friendship.

THINGS I WANT TO EXPLORE ( aka a living document of my wishlist tag )

jordan opening up to someone. jordan’s assault and the trial from her high school years were pretty well-publicized; while her name was never printed in the news stories surrounding the case, it’s not hard to put the pieces together when people find out where she’s from. this only becomes more apparent after the rothfield murders that take place over spring break 2019; being the ‘sole survivor’ of a revenge-murder rampage takes its toll in some unusual ways. it takes time for the trauma of the murders to fully sink in for jordan; initially, she’s relieved that her abuser is dead and gone and she never has to see him again, but that relief is short-lived. it doesn’t change the fact that she hasn’t fully healed from her past traumas and that she needs to be more vocal about her feelings and emotions; she needs a support system, especially considering her family is hours away and the only other person she’s confided in outside of her parents and sister goes to school in another state. I’d love to develop some close friendships where jordan feels comfortable opening up to others she knows she can trust and lean on when she’s having bad days; likewise, she’d do the same for those she loves dearly. she’s loyal at her core and if she trusts you, she will always be there for you.

THINGS I’M NOT INTERESTED IN ( aka...... it’s pretty self-explanatory )

your character ‘fixing’ jordan. through love, through friendship, through whatever; while all of the above can definitely help people dealing with trauma heal, it is not the sole, solitary thing that will get the job done. jordan will never rely on one person to be the sole thing that makes her happy and makes her feel whole again; it’s not realistic and it’s a harmful cliche that I don’t wish to perpetuate here. she absolutely needs friends she can trust, and she is capable of being in a loving relationship, but those are not going to automatically fix all her problems.

toxic ships. I don’t really feel the need to go super in-depth with this; while I’m not opposed to exploring shitty or toxic friendships or relationships, because those do happen, I’m not interested in doing so in the sense of “they’re toxic because they care!” again; very harmful cliches and stereotypes that I do not wish to perpetuate here. if I explore anything like this it’ll likely be with close rp partners I’ve had for a while and know I can trust.

fetishizing/‘fixing’ demisexual people. it’s a spectrum, folks; jordan needs an emotional connection with someone deep enough before she feels comfortable with intimacy. I’m not interested in anyone being the ‘exception’ to this for obvious reasons. if you come to me with anything related to your muse ‘fixing’ jordan’s demisexuality ( which existed before her trauma and was amplified by it, both of which are valid ), I will hard block you.

FINAL THOUGHTS so, I didn’t intend for this to get as long as it did; as far as the last section goes, a lot of that is common sense, but I’ve included it anyway because I’ve had similar experiences on blogs before with people coming to me with plot ideas that were inherently toxic and glorified to be something bigger/better, and felt it would be best to address what I’m not comfortable with and why directly out of the gate. keep in mind that all of this is a guideline, and if you have ideas that expand outside of what I’ve placed here, I’d love to hear them! don’t hesitate to approach me to plot, especially if you want to expand on anything I’ve listed in this cheat sheet. <3

oh WOW that new bloodkeep ep

**spoilers for family in freefall bloodlines and lifelines**

Man this episode was a lot. Probably my fave of the season so far.

Brennan seems to have an M.O. in terms of plotting things. They way we got a focus on each character in a stressful situation reminded me a lot of Family in Flames from the FH season which came at about the same point in the story.

Anyway, we start with Brennan giving the most unnecessarily verbose description of falling ever.

I am actually not sure how big Lilith is supposed to be in relation to everyone else at this point. Or how big her kids are supposed to be. I thought the really young ones were like straight spiders but like Jessa and the boy who’s name I’m forgetting were centaur style like her. But like, idk.

Efink insisting that she’s still holding the wheel (even though it truly means nothing) was so funny.

Both Matt and Brennan do very good re-entry sound effects.

Brennan: Feel free to do nothing.

Rekha: *SLAMS that induce labor button with no hesitation*

Truly amazing

“You feel your fire break.”

Leiland falling to his doom while bossa nova music plays in the background and rolling his eyes at Maggie is iconic.

Everyone is dying and Sohkbar is just like, fine.

Lilith polymorphs into a full ass spider.

Even though it ended up going sideways (literally) not a bad plan from Markus.

Brennan is so good at scene setting exposition.

Erika acted the hell out of that moment when she and Sohkbar share a look before she tells Russel everything is gonna be OK. She didn’t have to but she did that for us.

The wheel that steers nothing metaphor was such a good turn of phrase from Bren.

Efink’s DOUBLE NAT ONES.

WOOOOOW.

Rekha goes, “THIS is the bad day,” with Kristen Bell’s inflection and I am reminded that it has not even been a full 24 hours in game since ep 1. Wild.

Anyway, Efink’s norn spirit things disappear which is what happens when you roll snake eyes I guess. Amy is legit tearing up.

Brennan’s throwaway joke of explaining story structure low key killed me.

Leiland gets advantage on perception and rolls a nat 20!

Are all of the Vingury just gay for the next person in their chain of command? Because that’s what it seems like.

Matt’s flustered Leiland as Miles implies ~things~ is adorable.

Animal handling 2, electric boogaloo. I love that joke.

Maggie is so OP. Maggie hits the ground and isn’t even at half HP. Leiland is knocked into negatives though.

His first death save is a nat 1. WHICH IS 2 FAILURES. I was so stressed.

Then J'er'em'ih rolls a nat 20 to go save him!

I love the phrase, “J'er'em'ih’s normal form” as if he has a normal anything.

“J'er'em'ihdeserves the credit.”

Anyway J'er'em'ih(w/ an assist from Sohkbar) saves Leiland!

Rekha was so concerned for John. Like, not even Maggie. Rekha.

“It’s gonna be an egg!?”

Samantha Eagles. (Of the Philadelphia Eagles?) I died at that line.

Maggie levels up and gets healing magic. (“Fuck yeah!” says Maggie.) John stabilizes.

The fact that Maggie thought it might be an egg makes me concerned that she maybe isn’t ready to be a mom.

I love that Maggie just wordlessly presents her baby to Lilith (the alpha mom of the group) like a kid showing their mom and art project.

OK, this is such a tiny moment but I love, love, love that Maggie has a good enough relationship with Lilith that when she heard what she thought was a threat to her baby, she just asked, “Is that a threat to the baby?” instead of attacking her or going *Maggie will remember that* and harboring mistrust. The way she asked was so adorable. Also, Lilith would never.

Markus floats basically the exact same plan as Lilith (defect to good, get pardons) but at least he uses it as a plan of true last resort.

Lilith being the keeper of basically all of Efink’s self esteem is great. Also, everyone has to keep reminding her that she is queen.

“As the resident magnificent failure.”

“Allow me to be the basis for your self comparison. That’s the best I can offer you.” LEILAAAAAAAND.

Anyway, Leiland gives a great pep talk to Efink who throws her spell cards over her shoulder irl (”it’s an RP episode. it’s fine”).

Amy to Brennan who is about to start roasting Efink’s entire life: Don’t do this.

So when Brennan said, “Efink gets to decide right now if she’s good at magic.” I was thinking, that’s a big thing to put in a PC’s hands unless you want the answer to be yes. Because, in another story, “No,” might be the better answer narratively, but who’s gonna voluntarily nerf themselves like that?

So Efink dips into an episode of Friendship is Magic which Brennan beautifully picks up the narration for and gets the info they need without rolling for it. She also has some major self actualization and is now dry, less vain, and less dramatic.

It kinda seems like this was leading towards Lilith being the new leader what with her thoughts while she was falling and her being passed up for the promotion but, come on. She would have to make a crazy soul rending deal to just take the crown normally and she has kids and common sense. Otherwise, I think Erika would have made that play.

“Is my son a different player than me?” I love Rekha.

Like Leiland, I fully thought she was gonna name the kids John at first. (Are you ‘allowed’ to jr. a kid who isn’t named after you or your spouse? I’ve never seen someone do that. As in, add the jr., not name a kid after a friend).

I love that Matt roleplays Leiland into so many awkward moments. A good RP-er doesn’t care about their character being cool all the time.

“I’m naming him after the name of yours that I prefer.” That was so sweet.

“First of all, J'er'em'ih’s an excellent judge of character.”

Everyone coming together to make Leiland feel better was so so sweet. These guys are like the exact opposite of murder hobos in a game where they 100% have the right to be.

The baby tells Leiland to kneel and he just does it because of course he does. (Leiland later: I HAVE A VERY PARTICULAR SET OF SKILLS)

Maggie after Leiland swears total fealty to Leiland Jr: Can’t you keep anything at like 80%?

Efink rolls a nat 20 on her check to navigate the Bloodkeep, basically completing her self actualization arc.

Leiland resists the urge to chase Hamhead, completing a portion of his arc.

The running thing of people giving Maggie biologically incorrect info on kids because of their drastically different biology.

Aww all of Lilith’s kids.

Lilith dispel magicking the book golem, implying she could have done that at any time and just chose not to.

Leiland apologizes to Maggie for being bitchy to her out of jealously, which I thought was sweet but was just the warm up act for what was about to happen.

But, before that, Maggie’s dad calls and Efink hangs up on him for her. For a second I thought that cutting off the call meant we wouldn’t get to see what was behind the doors but, luckily, that wasn’t the case.

(Also Sohkbar and Lilith eating popcorn as Maggie and her dad fight).

Did Efink appoint herself high adviser?

“Please don’t bite him,” *Leiland Jr. bites a spider*

So, anyway, Leiland and Maggie go into the portal and see visions of (1) weird sex between Zaul and Lilith and (more importantly), (2) Zaul bagging on Maggie when she’s not around/thirsting after Leiland when he’s not around.

The simile about winning the lottery after you find out money can’t buy you happiness was so good.

“What a fucking pig!”/“I agree.”/“Oh, do you?”/“Actually I do.”

I’M SO PROUD OF THEM.

Instead of being mad at Leiland (or Lilith for that matter) she just doubled down on being mad at her dickhead ex. And Leiland, instead of being all winner winner chicken dinner just felt bad for Maggie and Decklan.

“Was this something the baby should have seen?”/“No.”

“This is one of the lesser times it’s bad to say your father’s name.” Yikes Leiland.

Anyway, the whole hang makes plans to take Sohkbar shopping and it really fits in with the theme of this ep of everyone boosting everyone’s self esteem. This ep has a lot of genuinely heartwarming moments.

“Sohkbar yes. Sohkbar yes. Sohkbar yes.”

“What did you roll? [28] You see everything.”

Leiland Jr. as new king seems like a questionable decision imo but I’m not gonna backseat RP.

“You guys start engaging in a fun conversation about statecraft.”

“Lilith, I’d like a hug.” Lilith hugs her and kicks her legs up like she’s in the climax of a romcom.

The whole group hugs and Brennan calls them out and has a NPC call them out, even though he’s the person who led them to this path!

Man, the promo for this ep really made it sound more dire and less heartwarming that it actually was.

That like 20 seconds had so many good lines. “We’re cutting out the middle man and taking evil straight to you.”/“We’re evolving evil.”/“We’re disrupting evil.”

Now that I think about it, they really haven’t escaped the bloodkeep so far, have they? They’ve been going back and forth between it but not really trying to escape it per se.

Olag is back because, again, of course he is.

Final battle y'all!

Sounds like we’re getting actual Gollum next week so that should be fun. Also, very curious to see what that last, “No,” is in response to. These guys are good at cutting trailers so it could be nothing serious, but who knows?

ほっとけない Types, or Yes, There Are Similarities Between Mun and Muse

I'm gonna share something that someone said to me earlier, because it... doesn't sit right with me for the main reason that I picked Ichigo.

So, a couple of weeks ago at work, I got pepper sprayed by accident trying to protect co-workers from a violent robber who was hitting them. (The co-workers being attacked were both women, and one carried Mace on her keys, and was trying to spray the assailant, also female, but taller than all of us, I'm short, as she [assailant] lunged again and I tried to stop her)

The next day, I was one of a few people who stopped a drunk man on the subway from beating up this guy in his 60s that he just randomly decided to come over and kick.

The conversation started today because I kinda bagged up my clothes and threw them in the closet until I had time, and today, I had time to treat them, so I was buying the stuff. They are soaking now in a bucket of water mixed with cold cream, which is apparently a good idea.

Anyway,this person was saying it's best to protect yourself and not get involved.

She did note expectations difference between men and women, but her point remained essentially unchanged except that maybe men should protect women from other men.

I... don't see why that matters the gender of the attacker or the attacked.

If I see someone who is essentially innocent being attacked (i.e., if it's someone screaming "Kill all [oppressed group here]" through a megaphone in some L.A. suburb being attacked, they brought that on themselves), I don't really care if it's the 140 cm 20 year old woman in my building when I lived near L.A. being attacked by the 190cm guy downstairs because she wouldn't sleep with him (she later decided me trying to help her in that incident and a few where she had no food meant I was kind, ergo, weak, and it would be funny to have these other guys *my age* who like-liked her harrass me, but that's aside) or if it's female co-workers being beaten up by a really tall violent woman, or if it's an older man falling asleep on the train and kicked awake by a crazed drunk 30 year old.

I can't just stand by and watch these things happen. I will usually try to pull the victim away and shield them if it's possible (wasn't at work) because I have arthritic joints all over and I can do more to help if I get the victim to safety than if I'm shattered into splinters and also become a victim.

But I can't just sit there and...do nothing.

And that was probably the biggest thing that drew me to Ichigo. Remember the whole "mountain of people" speech? (Mountain of X is a Japanese idiom for "a lot of X," Japan is full of mountains--it's actually why the cities are so crowded) I liked that he was realistic in knowing he couldn't save the world (so many college students are more idealistic), but he still had that same basic thing where he couldn't live with himself if he'd sat idly by. This really never changes. It never changed with me either, except as my joints went, I had to change *how* I handled it.

Now do I think he suffers for it? There's no way he wouldn't incur PTSD. Point blank, here. He's seen a lot of violence. Frankly, he--quite reasonably--seems to have it around his mother bleeding out in his arms before the start of the story. (Clearly, mondo survivor's guilt as well. I knew someone who ended up with that in real life. Ichigo has flashbacks. Ichigo becomes not himself on the anniversary. Ichigo *wants to be blamed for her death, when he was a small child and couldn't have reasonably done a thing* )

But he's also worse off when he's disempowered. I use that word intentionally. I really wish we'd seen more of powerless Ichigo. But, again, what little we see, he's quiet,withdrawn, in his head a lot when he's not focused on earning money or something.

Anyway, yeah,either way, the guy... frankly probably needs someone like what Ikumi was trying to be, but, you know,who could at least see spirits so he actually *could* talk to them about everything.

But I think a ほっとけないtype (dunno how to translate that!), now, you're just gonna incur damage. Aside from panicking and great pain because I'd never been pepper sprayed before, I've gotten blows to the face, I've gotten thrown into things, and I have PTSD from years of violence happening to me, so naturally, violence itself is triggering, but I... couldn't live with myself if I just did nothing.

And that's also key with Ichigo. He is just the type that is going to incur damage. But the damage is worse if he doesn't/can't do anything.

Barring the fact that in Bleach, death really is "just a flesh wound," his choices are really just between being turned into a child soldier/pulp (remember Tesla?) and "useless/put out to pasture," as far as he would seem to feel.

I do think he might be *too* self-effacing, if that's the right word. Does he ever seem to derive his intrinsic value from anything but protecting others (what he can succeed in doing for others)? Doesn't seem so to me.

I do feel like others-based self-worth is both something a lot of people struggle with, and something a ほっとけないtype might be particularly disposed to. It might also be something enforced on AFAB people, which, boy, if only savings account interests compunded at the rate of these problems!

Anyway, to this type of person, it's so much worse to spare oneself the flesh wound than to just stand by and watch others get hurt.

Ichigo has a doctor dad, a time-reversing comrade, and I have enough money and health coverage to get my clothes/skin/body/stress treated.

Rather, the stress part, choosing inaction would be something I would have to *live with.*

Ichigo is trying to do that, jumps at the first sign of hope he can be empowered again, and when (for a few seconds) that's taken away...do we ever see him cry any other time that's not a memory of him being a small child? I don't think so. I'm gonna guess that that's supposed to be he just can't handle it anymore. I'm actually not quite sure there.

They gloss over Ichigo's time powerless, but even though he was sorta forced into it, I don't think it would be all that different, especially for someone who derives his self-worth almost entirely from... something he can no longer do.

Could that also be why he was going into chasing money? Trying to find a new measure of self-worth/efficacy as an earner? They never expand on that. My project is different, but something to think about for RP.

But yeah, this type of person, well, it's not the safest type of person to be. But it's not like you consciously opt into being this type of person.

I don't really have a conclusion here, but this is actually what drew me to Ichigo. And what drew me to Bleach overall was Ichigo and...I have a lot of deceased family, so I like stories where the living and the dead just kinda hang out. So Ichigo and living-like ghosts was what brought me to this show.

(After writing this I realised that the advice I got today is just not something I can or should follow, although I should really be smarter about how I get involved)

(Also note, I've been exposed to violence, had to learn to fight it, and also just *alive and gaining life experience* for a good few decades. Teen readers definitely shouldn't throw themselves in fights with, say, middle age armed muggers. Rather, the teen should really go run to a brightly lit place with multiple people, like a store, and get help. The key is to try your best to be smart about how you get involved. Again, if you also become a victim, you aren't helping. Actually, after the pepper spray rendered me useless, all I could do was call for help, which was actually the best part of what I did)

sexuality: pansexual, but with a slight preference for women

gender/pronouns: Non-binary, they/them. Emmeline’s relationship with gender is a long and complicated one. They are their parent’s first and only child, and considering the pressure of their high social status to continue the family line and name, Em being, in the eyes of their parents, a baby girl, tempered the joy of their child’s arrival. They reassured themselves that there were other Vances out there, and little Emmeline would in time be married off and at the very least perpetuate their good, pure, blood. The lingering sense that they had somehow failed their parents straight out of the womb complicated Em’s relationship with gender from a young age, but when they eventually began openly identifying as non-binary it was a decision made solely and decisively for themself.

Em never really felt particularly like a girl, but they also weren’t sure what else they could be, sheltered as they were as a child- not from horror and darkness but from anything challenging the status quo. They didn’t discover that they could be something other than a girl or a boy until part way through Hogwarts, and didn’t start introducing themself with a mention of their pronouns until the day that they packed the best of nineteen years into a single suitcase and marched into the Ministry of Magic and got themself a job. In a way they were seeking control through the change, asserting a part of themself that their father had never known and therefore leaving him in the past.

i. personality

Paranoid: Em has been looking over their shoulder since their mother was kidnapped when they were a child, and has been looking over their shoulder in their own home since it sunk in that their father might value some things over them and their safety. Em has been weaving a net of protective charms around wherever they happen to be sleeping since they were seventeen, and the shield has only grown in complexity over time. When they followed the Order to Godric’s Hollow, Em sought out a small and defensible cottage with no immediate neighbors. Flanked by crumbling and abandoned houses, Em feels safer alone, especially at night. Emmeline’s paranoia is rooted in trauma, and in many ways is practical- they live in a world at war, after all, and there are plenty of people out there who would like to kill them, but it is also a definite weakness of theirs. It drives them to seclude themself, which doesn’t do much to inspire confidence in the rest of the Order, and has meant that they’ve never really managed to have a notable romantic relationship with another person. The idea of trusting someone else enough to let them behind their very literal shields seems incomprehensible, and yet Em sometimes finds themself almost longing for companionship. But they’ve been lonely for a very, very long time. It’s just the way life is.

Obsessive: Whether it’s their current project in dismantling a particularly nasty curse or their quest for vengeance, Emmeline throws themself into their work with everything they have. It’s what made them the best cursebreaker in the Ministry, what brought the Order before them, what keeps them sane. Em never stops. They have scrolls of parchment with lists of every object they can remember their father ever cursing, with every bit of information they can remember about the curse scrawled below in small, tight letters. The list is crowned by their father’s most beautifully monstrous curse, and Em will not rest until they eradicate them all. As it stands, too few have a line through them. When they read, they read something useful, something that might connect two dots somewhere, and everything else they do is earnestly purposeful. Idleness is dangerous. Of course, their obsessiveness also means that they have trouble letting anything go, pursuing problems with a dogged tenacity even if the argument is over and done with, or the curse is already broken.

Intelligent: It was their brain that allowed Emmeline to carve out a place for themself in relative safety eventually, their intellect and ability which allowed them to escape from the world of the death eaters. They are a phenomenal cursebreaker, and have accumulated a vast understanding of magical theory and runes as a result. Em is a well of knowledge, all of which they’ve offered unselfishly to the Order. They much prefer when their help draws from their knowledge as opposed to their memories, but they’ll recount either if it might further the cause. Their intelligence spans beyond just the academic, however. Em is witty, with a quick sort of gallows humor that comes accompanied by a quiet smile.

Empathetic: Hardly anyone would list empathy as one of Emmeline Vance’s obvious character traits. They were quiet, and clever, oddly reserved, a little bit blunt, bitter. They were fierce and bold and decisive, ready to defend their ideas with rapid fire arguments and explanations, delivered in a tone that practically dared to be disagreed with. No one would think to call Emmeline Vance empathetic because there was danger in showing anyone anything soft, and if Em knew anything it was how to protect themself. And yet, Em had never quite had the hardness it seemed everyone else in their pureblood circles possessed, that willingness to let atrocities happen, or participate in them personally, just to advance their power. Em listened at the door as Voldemort talked to their father, and all they could think of was the people behind the hissed mudbloods and muggles, the blood behind the sneer in squibs. Their doubt in Voldemort’s cause grew from empathy, and that remained the core of their resistance even after the empathy was joined by pain and a burning drive for vengeance. Emmeline is a deeply empathetic person, but that’s not anything anyone else needs to know.

ii. the story so far

Emmeline was seven when their mother was kidnapped. Just young enough that no one had told them anything, just old enough that they remembered everything. It was common knowledge by the time they went to Hogwarts, already steely-eyed at eleven, that Emmeline Vance’s mother had been gruesomely murdered because their father hadn’t paid her ransom, but very few knew that Em had been there when it happened. They’d been out walking in a park, quiet and secluded, and Em had chased a group of pixies that had flown off with their stuffed hippogriff. They reemerged from a shrub, disheveled but victorious, just in time to see the curse hit their mother’s back and the men whisk her away with the sickening pop of side-along apparition. And that was the last time they saw their mother.

When the people started to come, knocking on the door and fawning over Em with pitying politeness before pulling out a wicked looking knife, or a jewel encrusted bracelet, Emmeline had dutifully let them in, and smiled at their compliments, and watched with rapt attention as their father twisted the objects’ essences into something dark and malignant and clever. They never saw the repercussions of their father’s creations, only the mastery and intellect that went into the birth of the things, benign on the worktable. As much as Em hates to think of their father still out there somewhere drawing breath, they never learned so much in so short a time as in those years before Hogwarts. And they never expected, then, that they were learning exactly how to pluck apart the intricate tangle of those same curses while watching their father braid them into being.

And then they’d gone to Hogwarts, and their destiny was drawn out before them in permanent ink, clear as anything. They were sorted into Slytherin, and they were clever and good at their classes, and they accidentally killed a plant in herbology but shone in ancient runes. And behind all the routine of Hogwarts, were everything was meant to be tinted by optimism and hope, truths Emmeline knew intimately waited, oozing a darkness so black it was almost red.

They were dragged out of their bed at seventeen, woken by hands and heavy breathing and Emmeline had struggled and screamed, thrashing uselessly as the lingering effects of deep sleep battled with a fierce rush of adrenaline. Em still dreams of that night, sometimes, waking up nauseated by terror. Mercifully, their dreams rarely make it all the way to their father’s desk. It’s worse when the night conjures up the way their father had looked down with hollow eyes before dripping fire down their arm.

Hogwarts had lost it’s luster after that summer. Emmeline had spent the remaining month at their father’s home sleepless and harried by seemingly random experiments on the mark that stood starkly on their forearm, twisting something in their heart whenever they caught a glimpse of it. They had taken it quietly, spending hours being poked and prodded, or consumed by pain when Voldemort deigned to check in on his prototype and pressed his finger into the pictorial curse. There had been no other choice. They were barely of age, they had nowhere to go.

Those, it turned out, were some of Emmeline’s darkest days, and nothing was more demoralizing than realizing that there was no safe place for them to run. Nearly everyone they knew was, if not explicitly aligned with Voldemort, then something of an implicit supporter, and anyone else they could plead for help from (with low chances of success, marked as they were) would gain a target on their backs too. Their only escape would be by their own hands, and their only respite could be through their own power. The Ministry, when Em eventually found themself there armed with a suitcase, their wand, and a life full of curses, was a means to an end.

Freedom was perhaps too strong a word, but Voldemort never came knocking, and their father didn’t send any owls. Em waited for them anyway, and threw themself into their work with everything they had, finding a sort of catharsis in breaking curses while somewhere out there their father was making them. The pay allowed them to scrape by, and Em wasn’t happy, but then again they didn’t think that happy was something they could be, anymore.

By the time Kingsley Shacklebolt and Alastor Moody asked for their first favor, Em had carved out a space for themself in the Ministry’s curse breaking department, but the running was taking it’s toll. The knowing was eating at them. They were gone, had slipped out from under Voldemort’s thumb, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t some other unlucky kid wrapped up in things too big for them. Em had escaped, but there were still terrible men out there capable of doing terrible things, damn the consequences. Emmeline was no hero, but fuck men who thought that the world was theirs to ruin, everyone else just game pieces, experiments, and target practice. When Shacklebolt and Moody’s favors grew into an invitation into something bigger, Em had felt some open wound within them close, two puzzle pieces locking together. The Order might need Em’s skills, but Em needs the Order just as much.

Was it any wonder, then, that they threw themself into their work for the Order with a sort of abandon that would be called reckless were they not so analytical? Em was among the first in the Order’s ranks, but four years on, they’re still haunted by their past. Darkness clings, lurking while they dismantle a curse by thinking of how their father would build it, bubbling up when they let a curse fly and feel sickeningly pleased by the way the robed bodies hit the floor.

iii. present day

Slotting the detritus of their life into place in the smallest cottage left standing in the bit of Godric’s Hollow the Order had carved out as their new home had taken a pitiful ten minutes. Em had resolutely focused on the efficiency created by the limiting of their belongings rather than the faint hint of regret that they had so little to show for their twenty-six hard fought years. Living out of a suitcase had served them well in that earth-shattering year (though they’d all been earth-shattering to varying degrees for too long now), what felt like decades ago, and it would, they had told themself, serve them well now. They didn’t need the luxuries that had been left behind in the scrambling chaos of the aftermath of 1981. There had been books they’d accumulated once they’d stopped hopping from flat to shitty flat every month like clockwork, criss-crossing the area in and around London, covering their tracks as if they couldn’t be cornered and offed somewhere in the bowels of the Ministry any time they went into work. Books, and records, and stupid nick-nacks. Gone now, abandoned as they downsized back to one suitcase almost on reflex. They’d fled once, now they were just retracing their steps.

Em can’t fault the Order for running. It would be hypocritical, if nothing else, but also with their ranks depleted and those who remain rocked by shock and grief, to do anything but hide for the time being could very well end in yet another blood bath. But at the same time, Em itches to be back on the front lines, capitalizing on the fact that Voldemort’s side suffered losses too. Sitting on their hands is all well and good, but Em isn’t convinced they’ll be able to lick their wounds for much longer.

Chittock’s broadcast would’ve left them with a smug smile, a silent told you so, if it weren��t for the fact that Em was well aware there were plenty who would hear the warning that not everyone was to be trusted and look at them, a pureblood and a Slytherin with a mark on their arm, damning them to darkness. The war is inescapable, as far as Em is concerned. At least it is for them. They’ll keep fighting until they die or there’s no more fighting to be done.

While I will get to the small backlog of writing prompts I have yet to get to eventually, I’m feeling up to telling a different story involving the Followers. Today, you’re getting the origin story.

Not the characters, oh no, this is the story of how this shit show came together into something coherent. Buckle up, this is gonna be a long one.

As some of you may know, the Followers are each loosely based around and upon eight members of patrons on the Internet Remix Patreon server. I happen to only truly ‘own’ Witch; every other character involved belongs to the person that originally came up with them. If you didn’t happen to know this, here’s a quick rundown of everyone involved:

Now, this was right around when Internet Remix was announcing Camp Streamix and all of us on the Patreon server were choosing teams. A couple of us immediately rallied around Kristen and Team Murder, each for our own reasons (Onyx in solidarity for also living in the void state, Missfoxx given her longstanding friendship with Kristen, me for the storytelling and a long running joke that I was Kristen’s witch, Arahul for the intrigue, and Archer for the horror elements).

Not long after this, we all got to joking that as the patrons, we were like Kristen’s followers in a way. I was the first one to really create a ‘persona’ as a follower of team murder, someone who vaguely resembled me and was dressed in red (a precursor to Witch’s final design). Given that I was already ‘the witch’ in another long since dead RP thing with some of my friends, I began to take the title of The Witch as a joke. Not long after, those of already committed to Team Murder all began discussing what we would each be if we had to put a role to what each of us were.

Missfoxx was the older priest of the group, given that she had the longest relationship with Kristen.

Onyx was the right hand, given the two of them were both ‘void denizens’ and he already had jokingly begin to call Kristen ‘captain’ once he declared Team Murder.

Arahul was more of an advising figure, given that most of us consider him especially wise for his age.

Archer, perhaps a bit more on the nose, would obviously be a hunter of sorts given her name, the executioner as you will.

Along the way, we began joking that we needed a younger priest to complement the older, and jokingly said that we could just ‘steal’ Myst away if we really needed to.

And slowly, we began constructing characters.

After a little of this brainstorming and realizing that I happened to be really good at putting together something out of sparse details, I made the decision to go everyone and ask “Hey, I have this idea for a story, mind if I piece some things together and try and make this more coherent?”

One by one, they each said yes, giving me little details on clothing and background, but ultimately leaving a lot of the larger stuff to me. So I took the threads all my friends gave me, thought about what I could do with it, and began to weave.

The Followers were born out of that weaving, a set of demi-gods and ‘angels by any other name’ who loyally serve the Murder God.

As I was writing, I realized with my own character, the Witch, matched perfectly to the witch role within the DMP game, and so that thread was woven into the story thread.

Lieutenant and Old Priestess became more than their titles; they were now the two werewolves, partners in crime, and influential beyond belief.

Advisor became the seer, able to peek into people’s minds and into the future.

Huntress became the gunslinger, searching for justice and agency.

Young Priest became the gardener, a speck of flavor text and light in a dark world.

I was never expecting this little fan project to become as popular as it did, but it absolutely exploded among the people who were involved and among others in the Patreon server. People encouraged me to write more, and once I realized just how far this silly little project had reached, I decided to start plan out a small sequel project that would bring in some elements I had hinted in the original introductory work.

During this continual worldbuilding, things slowly began expanding out of that small, initial circle. Not long after, we brought Carl into the mix, as she was jokingly called the ‘bookkeeper’ given that she always fills up the out of context quotes chat and had introduced her own sort of ‘follower’ character not connected to the work I had done. Thus the Bookkeeper was born, representing the minion role and the group’s scribe

Kyle’s character followed soon after, though his was on a technicality. Because he wasn’t officially really any team with his penchant of donating to whichever team he felt like, we said that any character of his would just be there part time. Thus the Part Timer was born, representing the Doctor role and the group’s technology expert and partial spy.

With that, we had eight followers, which was all I could both reasonably write, and perhaps symbolically, represented the eight legs of a spider (given the large theme of webbing and the like). I promised to include these two new characters into the sequel series and give them their own time to shine, along with learning more about the current cast.

With all these characters finally listed out, there was only one last thing to do. Give them their proper titles and honorifics fitting of the original five and the three that wandered in.

There was quite a bit more behinds the scenes work involved with this journey, of course, and I could never have done this without the help of all of my friends who helped me build this world, bring it to live, and paint it in beautiful colors. And, of course, it wouldn’t be where it is today without all the people who read it and told me ‘I want to see more of this’.

So, believe me when I give my sincere thanks to you all for helping me to get this far.

And as for when the next update is coming? I can’t promise anything precise.

But something else?

year in review - 2018

001. What is your proudest accomplishment of this year?

Definitely everything that’s happened with Riverdale. It’s the best job I’ve ever had, and it’s the biggest one as well. And being ask to come back as a series regular was the best thing that’s happened to me professionally ever.

002. What is the biggest life lesson you learned this year?

To not run from the things, or people that scare you. It does more harm than good. It’s always worth taking the leap of faith despite the fear.

003. What is one relationship (can be friendship) that has helped you survive this year?

There’s two that have changed me as a person this year, and the two people that I wouldn’t be me without.

Skeet ( @ulrichisms ), you’ve given me the type of love and understanding that I didn’t think was possible. And even though I tried resisting it for a long time, you never truly gave up on me or us. I love you, and I’m so proud and lucky to be yours.

My Natty Ice ( @itsnataliadyr ), you’re my rock, my sounding board, and my soulmate. I don’t think I could have made it through the year without you, and it’s crazy to think that we didn’t even know each other when 2018 started. We met and you instantly became my person. I love you so much.

004. Who or what do you need to let go of in order to make next year even better than this year?

I need to let go of the fact that I have no control over what happens with Toni on the show or how much screen time she gets. I’ve really let that bother me for the first half of this season, and I’ve made some comments or liked tweets that I probably shouldn’t have.

005. What did you do this year that you’ve never done before?

Does sleeping with a woman count? Technically, I slept with two women this year but prior to 2018 I hadn’t ever gone that far before. I always knew I was bisexual since I was a teenager, but I hadn’t actually been with a woman until this summer.

006. What are three resolutions or goals you want to make happen next year?

I want to go on more auditions for projects during hiatus and continue to expand my career.

I want to get myself really settled into my life and my future, especially with my relationship. Getting over that fear and showing both myself, and Skeet, that I’m ready for everything with us and build this together. @ulrichisms

And traveling more. Whether it be for more conventions to meet fans or for vacations, I just really want to see more of the world this year.

007. Where did most of your money go this year?

Flying back and forth between LA and Vancouver, and paying for both apartments.

008. What song will always remind you of this year?

009. How will you be spending the last day of this year?

Hopefully in Costa Rica with my baby. @ulrichisms

010. Who is the best new person you’ve met this year?

Definitely Natalia. My life changed because of that girl, she’s the best friend anyone could ask for. @itsnataliadyr

001. What relationship (can be friendship) has been the most fun to write for your muse/s this year?

I’ll do the IC questions for each character, but I’ll answer these for all three so I’m not having to do it twice.

I’ve gushed about her relationship with Skeet and friendship with Natalia up in the IC questions, and while I would love to gush about them some more, I think I’m going to give this one to Laura’s Tom. Writing their friendship has been fun and hilarious since the beginning when they were planning on doing a partners in crime movie and it’s even funnier now with Vanessa pretending to not like him because she’s protective over Natalia. I really enjoy their friendship a lot. @hollandjpg

For Eliza, since I’m going to talk about her relationship a lot when I do the IC questions for her, I’m going to have to give this one to her friendship with Julianne. It was an unexpected friendship, and it’s easily become one of my favorites that I’ve ever had on her. They mesh so well and just bring me so much happiness. @julcshough

And the same goes for KJ, I’ll talk about his relationship in a separate post, so I’ll give this one right to his friendship with Lili. They’re basically connected at the hip half the time, and I love how much their friendship resembles mine and Becca’s a lot of the time. They’re just this pure friendship that’s really rooted in how much they love each other and want each other to be happy more than anything. And I love getting to write with Becca when it comes to them. @liliisms

002. In what ways do you connect to your muse/s?

Weirdly enough, I don’t really feel connected to Vanessa in many ways other than our love for dogs and Choni. She’s probably the muse that has the least amount of qualities I identify with that I’ve ever played. And it’s been fun, because it’s challenging and definitely out of my comfort zone.

Eliza is the muse I probably connect with the most, especially Eliza before Alycia with her fears of commitment and feelings. And her love of Food Network and being lazy, definitely from me. It’s been fun to write the change in her thanks to her relationship and really flesh her out, and watch her mature in ways that I myself can learn from.

KJ is similar to me in the way that I also have that childlike humor and spend most of the time just trying to make people laugh.

003. What’s your favorite category to write for your muse/s? (angst, fluff, smut, etc.)

Definitely fluff, it’s where I thrive but I do enjoy the angst as long as it doesn’t become excessive or unnecessary drama just to create the angst. And I’m not the biggest fan of writing smut, so I don’t do it as much as I do fluff or angst.

004. If you could give your muse/s one gift, what would you give them?

Vanessa: I’d write the scripts of Riverdale and give Toni more importance.

Eliza: Babies. All Eliza wants is babies and I’d give her all the babies.

KJ: I’d give him and Gigi more alone time together.

005. What was your favorite event/moment/memory in HollywoodlandHQ this year?

Definitely the trip to Greece and the earthquake! I think that was so much fun, and a fun, creative way to pair people up.

006. What muse/s have you enjoyed most seeing on this dash this year?

Anyone who knows me should know that I’m the number one Granielle fan in the world, so I’m constantly stalking the two of them and just pretending like Colton is there twice a week for a three way cuddle session. @theflashgrant @hyfdanielle

007. What is your favorite thing your muse/s have done this year in the group? (can be in the real world or what you made up)

Vanessa: Can I just say bringing her into the group in general? She’s such a different type of character for me to play, and I’ve loved being pushed to different levels while creating for her.

Eliza: Getting married, for sure. I’ve been playing her for years now, and to see her finally get her happy ending meant the world to me. She’s the muse I’m the most attached to so it was a very emotional event for me.

KJ: The unexpected pregnancy, without a doubt. It’s changed both him, and his relationship with Gigi, in the best of ways and it’s allowed me to mature him and have him grow in ways that most 21 year olds aren’t having to do. Sadie is the best ship partner in the world, and I’ve loved the way we’ve worked together to make their relationship together and as co-parents into something beautiful but still fun. And they’ve kept that same charm and chemistry that they’ve had together since the first day we started writing together. @gigihqs

008. What would you like to see in HollywoodlandHQ in 2019?

More events to pair people up randomly, it seems to be a popular idea and it’s one of my favorite things as an admin to do because I love seeing all the new friendships that form out of those events.

009. What is a plot you would love to do with your muse/s?

Vanessa: I would love to just explore her relationship with Skeet more, and continue to build them up and have them grow together throughout 2019. @ulrichisms

Eliza: Babies, I just want mom!Eliza more than anything, okay. And to continue to build up the relationship with Eliza/Alycia/Addy. I’m already really attached to the three of them, and they’re just getting started. So I can’t wait to keep plotting and writing for them. @avyciataylor @addvkins

KJ: Again, I just really want to keep writing with Sadie and see where else we can take Gineti this year. 2018 gave us so much as ship partners, and I can’t wait to see what we do in 2019. @gigihqs

010. Tag somebody in the RP and say something nice about them. It’s the season of giving.

This is the one OOC question that I’ll probably answer on all three just so I can talk about several different people but for this one I’m going to focus on all of the admins. Both past and present.

Sadie, Katie, Bonnie, Becca, Sam, and Alyssa: The seven of us created this place, and it couldn’t have been done without each of you. I know that some of you aren’t admins anymore for your own reasons, but I just want you to know that not a day goes by that I’m not still thankful for all of the hard work and dedication you put into creating and maintaining this group. We’re the OG’s, and I love you all immensely. @ohlizzo @diannahq @hyfdanielle @liliisms @theflashgrant @xmaikamonroe

Laura, Ina, and Nikki: You guys may not have been admins since day one, but you’ve joined the admin team since then and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the three of you. You constantly put in so much work and effort to keep building this place into what it is. And all of is noticed and appreciated. Every person listed above are the reasons this group opened and is still open and thriving to this day. Being admins of a group this large is no easy task, there’s always so much work to do especially for events and all the fun stuff we like to do. So my first impression of the main is both a positive and negative one. Personally I’m not a fan of contained themes for RPG mains but I accept that they’re useful, convenient, and popular for many groups that don’t need the whole shebang of a fansite theme. What I’m left to look at is how well you utilized what the theme gave you. Even though you have to scroll to read the whole bio your links are all important and well-placed. The search engine is also nifty. My biggest NOPE is the background. The trees and branches make the entire page very busy-busy and for some people with attention issues (like myself) it really distracts from what’s actually being posted. There’s just a lot of places that catch the eye when it’s not necessary, you know? My suggestion would be–if you’re sold on the picture itself–finding a way to introduce a white-fade or black-fade to reduce the brightness and color vibrancy of the background image. This can do wonders for putting the spotlight back on the posts you’re putting out there.

When it comes to the originality and creativity of your Plot there’s not a lot for me to say. You did a great job putting your own spin on the ‘supernatural town’ genre and not only that but you made sure to give a space for non-supernatural characters to be welcomed in too; which I personally always look for when joining these types of things. Putting your idea aside, however, I’d recommend you look back over your plot and give it some narrative touch-ups. It reads well; both coherent and concise, but I feel like reading a plot should excite me, a potential member, especially in the case of learning the history of the town and how things are the way they are because it will affect my character on a personal level. For example: you end one paragraph with the knowledge that these original witches are dead, but then the next paragraph you continue talking about them again. Maybe that information could have been included in the section above. It’s these little things that just touch things up and make them seem cleaner and more attractive.

Your Rules are objectively good. You cover all your bases needed for an RPG like this. The problem I’m seeing–and this is something I run into on a lot of the opinions I do–is that they’re pretty much… needlessly wordy. “1. Do not Godmod. You control your own characters.” You link to the definition of godmodding, so why add that secondary part? I know it makes your Rules seem a bit more fleshed out but if you go through them one by one I think you might notice that you just end up circling back around in more sentences than you need. “2. This is an 18+ RP. We will not accept any applicants under 18.” Cool, good, but you said that very concisely in “this is an 18+ RP.” Another example: “14. Smut is allowed, just put it under a read more. Once the clothes come off, the read more goes on, yeah?” can easily become “14. All smut must be under a read more.”

Since there’s nothing on the Character, Taken FC, (nothing out of standard) Banned FC, and Wanted Connection pages, I do feel confident in saying that the organization of them is well-done and they’ll no doubt be easy to navigate for players and potential members alike. On your Checklist I see that you have an OOC Discord – I’m a really big fan of those as someone usually on his mobile and on-the-go. It helps me feel more connected to the community; and I know there are many RPers who both agree and disagree with me. All I feel comfortable saying is keep an eye out in your group chat, make sure everyone is being included, etc etc. In the group I ran our OOC Discord was a welcoming place to meet everyone–it IS possible despite what some people say. I have faith in y’all!

So for your Worldbuilding pages I’m trying not to sound too nitpicky. There’s a fine line between what’s totally acceptable and what I, personally, am not a fan of. So please feel free to disregard this, because it’s more tailored to my bias than an objective opinion.

For your Places page: it’s all very squished together. I know you have the different color font for the titles but it’s barely noticeable with my brightness all the way up. Maybe adding an underline, or utilizing the bold/italics can help sort of create some separation? Even just adding a space underneath each point before moving on to the next can create a world of difference when people have a hard time focusing on so much on the screen. Also, and this might just be me being finicky–but I see you have Docks. Fishermen are great… but maybe having a space to clarify the size of the boats and the lake on the edge of town could help? Since there’s definitely no harbor in the middle of the National Park. Small things to think about.

The Supernatural Species list is really well done and comprehensive – giving me everything I need to know as a potential member shopping around for what species I want to apply with. As an image-heavy RPer the difference in quality in the provided images (while in good taste and very helpful!) does sort of take me ‘out of the moment’ if that makes sense. Even something as simple as making them all black and white, or adding a green-tinted psd to them – if you decide to keep them at all that is – can do wonders for making everything seem more uniform and comprehensive. Like with the Places, the information is all very helpful and useful but still squished. I just see a wall of text I have to focus on to not reread on accident. Play around with the settings in the tumblr customizer or even the html code if you fancy. It really helps.

Rounding everything out and looking at the RPG as a whole: there’s a lot of potential here. You offer so much creative freedom to your applicants and that is definitely a great selling point for your group. The small cosmetic changes I’ve suggested above won’t detract from the overall feel of the group, in my opinion; which is good because it means there’s not a lot that really needs ‘fixing,’ pardon the term. And like I said earlier your fresh approach to the genre is definitely there – maybe if you guys found a way to highlight that a bit more in your promotions it could help you get more attention? I don’t know exactly what might help; whether that be simple image changes on the main or promos that really hit home with the idea that the citizens are trapped and not in total harmony like the peaceful locale might make one think–I have no doubt a creative admin team like yourselves will find that one little thing to push you guys into view!

Good luck and be proud of all your hard work so far! It will pay off, of that I’ve no doubt!

in all my years on tumblr, this is still one of my favorite gifs of tay in existence, so i shall use it now on my mega ooc appreciation post.

i am still on hiatus — it has been a ROUGH 36 hours my dudes — but i did want to drop in and post some ic/ooc appreciation things while this week is still here because i am all in the business of sharing the love. it’s one of the many reasons i absolutely adore this group. this group has always been about love, for me, and would probably be the singular word i’d use to describe my experience here.

i joined this lovely bunch back in july, i do believe? i had actually just finished up writing and self-publishing my third book which wound up being a behemoth (seriously it was a lot) and while i was absolutely and completely braindead when it came to writing, i still wanted to write. i’m a writer. that’s who i am and that’s who i’ll always be. i wanted something a lot more low-stakes, kind of go-with-the-flow, no real pressure and more collaborative than the isolating fun of novel-writing, so i turned back to roleplay. hollywood rps have always been my absolute favorites in the rpc for whatever reason; i have such fond memories in hollywood groups and it’s a fun and creative way for me to just project the love i have for my faves. after a few experiences in groups during late 2017 and early 2018 i was pretty sure that i was done with roleplay. it just wasn’t the same for me, no matter where i went. priorities had shifted and it was no longer about writing because you loved to write. but, me being ever the optimist, i decided to dive back into the tags and see what was still around or had recently popped up. i found this group and i saw that they had just had a taylor swift removed from the group, and hi hello nice to meet you i am taylor swift trash no. 1!!!, i felt like it was all Meant To Be or something like that (plus, she was taken in every other group and that’s who i really wanted to put a hand at writing). so i put in an app for her, got accepted, and i have been plaguing your dashes ever since :~))

in the four-ish months that i have been here, so much has happened in my life. i started my (outrageously stressful) junior year of college, i lost my grandma, i went to go see queen swift in atlanta and meet my baby princess camila, i have had major friend complications and doubts about my career track and i have had just really boring, empty days where everything was going seemingly okay. this group has been there for me through every high, low, and in between. this group has been my escape to run to when i’m stressed or up late at night and can’t sleep or just really looking to be social or want to write something. this group has been so welcoming, warm, and fun; i have had the opportunity to explore my character any which way that i please and form awesome plots with people, and even more awesome friendships ooc. some of you send really, really kind things my way which, fyi, i’m super grateful for and have probably cried over because this was the first time i not only felt welcomed in a group as taylor, but felt welcomed in a group as me. i am so grateful that i get to call this place my internet home and there is absolutely nowhere else i would rather be spending my free time writing. i stand by what i say: this is the best group in the tags, hands down. you could not ask for a more inclusive, diverse, welcoming, creative playground to spend your time on. to all the lovely admins over on main @hollywoodfamerp thank you for doing the heavy lifting and giving us a safe and warm place that we can call home. the work you do never goes unnoticed. you are appreciated and you are so, so loved. ♡

My time here is done.

Most anyone reading this that just stumbled upon it don’t know who I am, but those that do know me that got this link know me very well.

Hi, I’m known on Moon Guard as Neo Starstrider, Void Elf Hunter (High Elf Paladin in a previous life) though in the past I have gone by ‘The Doctor’ Andalian Morrison, Human Chronomancer and Illusionist best known for his time in Pyrebird Sodality. As well as Cillvia ‘The Fox’ Morrison, Human Rogue who climbed the ranks of the Melrony Crime Family to become its Underboss before stabbing Selvetore Melrony in the back (both IC and OOC, get to that in a bit.) and leaving to form her own company, Morrison Shipping and Trade, aka The Morrisons. But before that, I was simply Neo, a Human Paladin from Sargeras that raided and posted penis macros in trade chat.

Why am I writing all of this? Well, I’ve come to a turning point in my life where I have to start doing things a bit differently. And the thing I need to do different is cancel my WoW Subscription.

This is going to be a long story. So if you wish to keep reading, go ahead. If you wanna skip it and go straight to my reasoning for leaving, just go until you get to the break.

I was first introduced to WoW when I was in High School. I was having a get together at my house with some friends when one of them found my computer and began to download the game onto it. I asked him what that was and he said “This is World of Warcraft.” He let me create an Undead Warrior to play with for a bit. I enjoyed it quite a bit. But it wasn’t until that summer that I really got hooked onto that game.

Another friend of mine got me to play with him. This time I played a Night Elf Druid and boy oh boy was that a fun experience leveling. I only got him to level 12 before I stopped for a few months but it was still tons of fun! After a short break, I came back and made a Human Paladin on Sargeras known as Neotar. That same friend that was playing with me before made a Night Elf Hunter named Adremmalech and we both decided that we were going to get to max level with these characters no matter what.

We leveled and leveled and we both hit level 40 the day Burning Crusade was released. To celebrate our accomplishment, we ran our level 40 mounts all the way to the Exodar from Stormwind to check out the new Alliance city. Needless to say, it was super dope! But we weren’t done. We continued the Vanilla grind to level 60, stepped through the Dark Portal for the first time and were in absolute awe. What an experience it was to see that giant pit lord standing at the bottom of the stairs. The musical score blasting in our headphones. So much fun and great memories.

We blasted up to level 70 and soon got our first taste of gearing up to raid. I had some shortcomings being a Paladin as I didn’t want to only be a healer. Luckily, Prot was developing into something fun and challenging so I took it! Our entire time in BC was spent mostly in Karazahn, Gruul’s Lair, Mag’s Lair, and Zul’Aman. He went on to raid with a group that got into Hyjal and Black Temple on a regular basis while I stayed behind (mostly due to time restraints due to school.) But it was one of the most fun times I had playing this game.

When Wrath came out, we transferred servers to Drak’theron and met a guy that to this day is one of the nicest and kindest person I’ve ever met and am proud to call my friend (he also DM’s my weekly D&D games). We became members of his guild and went all the way to ICC 11/12 Heroic with him. A lot of accomplishments made with that guy and it was a lot of fun.

But that was the peak of my raiding experience as I stopped raiding when Cataclysm came out. I still wanted to play the game but didn’t know what else to do. So I gave RP a shot. I looked up an excellent guide on wowpedia, made a mage on Moon Guard, and went to town! I walked into the Cathedral district for the first time and was genuinely amazed by all the people there, acting out their characters.

I was hooked instantly.

I quickly leveled up this mage, known as Andalian Morrison, and joined a guild that I believe was called Kingdom of Arathor. I learned so much about Arathi Highland lore being in that guild (mostly research I had done) and decided to make my mage be from Arathi. Eventually I made him an entire family: 3 older brothers and 1 older sister. Cerious, Nethran, Cillvia, and Edrayne. I eventually made Cillvia into a rogue I had and transferred her to the server where I then was approached by Selvetore Melrony to join the Melrony Crime Family.

Crime RP was a new experience for me (much like all RP was) and I learned quick that RP Fighting was full of a lot of drama if you didn’t communicate effectively. But the stories told were fun and I had fun. Though like a lot of things, this RP came with a lot of OOC drama and for better or for worse, I let it get to me and run how my RP was. Rather than talk things out with Selvetore, I plotted with his other officers and we all left and made our own guild, The Morrisons.

I can’t say if I had just left on my own if things would be different but the whole experience taught me that talking things out with your guild mates might end in someone leaving but it’s better than essentially ruining someones day through shady means.

Running the Morrisons was challenging. We didn’t know exactly what we wanted to be. Half of us wanted to be crime RPers, the other half just wanted to be entertainers. Either way, we did our best. I ended up disbanding due to time restraints IRL but eventually I came back around on Andalian and joined up with the Pyrebird Sodality, the GM being Kenny.

Kenny was a lot of fun to be around and still is a very creative person. I learned a lot about RP from her as well (even though I had well over a couple years of experience at that point). She taught me a lot about running a guild as well. I stuck by that guild until time ran out for it and switched then to my paladin, Neo Starstrider, freshly transferred from Sargeras.

I used my raiding experience as his backstory and eventually landed on him being a devout Champion of the Argent Crusade, joining up with House Ravenshield in the process. I never let OOC dictate my actions with this character as IC was my only driving force.

Eventually Neo cut ties with the Crusade due to their inability to do anything about Sylvanas and her plague. He joined up with Elizabeth Embershield and the Embershield Protectorate and that’s pretty much where his story is concluding. He will be retiring from active service to take care of himself and his kids (if Telriah so wishes it.)

I will say this about Embershield: It is the best guild I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of.

Telriah is an amazing world builder and a great friend. I love him to death and I hope he continues to run this guild well after I leave. It’s been a pleasure to work with him in building the guild up and I loved every minute of it.

Linaly, Teanuu, Ainsling, Talen, Dubz, Keak, Garion, Nesara, Elbert, Kamarill, Trisana, Walorian and even you Moonsworn, I love you all so very much and I hope you continue to be the amazing people you are.

So if you read all of that, I congratulate you on getting this far. If you skipped to this part that’s cool too. But as I said before, my time in wow has come to an end.

My reasons for quitting are as follows:

1: WoW is just not fun for me anymore. Not even RP can keep me playing this game, sadly enough. I’ve played this game for over 13 years. I had so much fun raiding and jumping into RP. But the current iteration of this game is just not appealing to me anymore. I don’t like world quests, I don’t like the rep grinds, I don’t like the raiding or the PVP. I could go on and on with a lot of the things I don’t like (and to be honest they’re probably things you read or hear about on a daily basis) but it’s just plain and simple: Wow isn’t fun for me anymore.

2: I’m studying to become an Computer Tech and all of the things that follow that path. I am also wanting to start up my YouTube/Twitch project once more and don’t want WoW to be pulling me down.

3: In July 2017, I met the woman that I want to marry. At the time that I write this, we’ve been together for 15 months. She’s moved in with me, she’s decorated the apartment, we put up a Christmas Tree (the first one I’ve ever put up since living on my own). We have a cat, I buy her roses every chance I get, I love her family and she loves mine. It’s as simple as this: Every time I’ve had a choice between wow and spending time with her, I chose her.

NAME A RANDOM ROLEPLAY THAT STICKS OUT IN YOUR MEMORY — me n my friend ellie made this really cool group the summer before we left for uni which was loosely based on a concept mentioned mayb once in the divergent series, but it gave us loads of freedom to make it our own thing. it was called the fringe n it was like..... this dystopian society where people with different genes were cut off from the rest of society n lived in overrun slum cities where different groups had like, a monopoly over weapons, produce, etc.... my character jack was the leader of this lost-boy-esque tribe called the wolf pack who were hunters n used to run across the rooftops wearing the skins of animals they’d killed and engage in tribal rituals with sacrifices to the gods n shit. sounds lame but everyone there was so invested in their character arcs that it was a shame to see it go. but ! it kind of reached its end point so we blew it up w nukes n they all died. tragic.
